An excellent professor. Very clear in what he is looking for and extremely helpful. Always available during office hours. There is no reason not to ace this class if you do all of the assignments.

Great Professor! He knows what he's teaching and also never wastes time on unnecessary things. You will learn from his lectures and also his office hours will help you quite a lot.

He is a really good teacher and is really funny. Even if you are bored with the lecture you have to laugh at him because he is so funny. The papers are pretty straight-forward and he is clear in what he's looking for.

Etter is great! I loved his class because he was very clear and if you needed help he was always there and doesn't make you feel dumb since he's a freakin genious since he's got his doctorate from UCI and went to Stanford for undergrad.

This class is a lot of fun! Bill is very enthusiastic about the subject which makes you enjoy it all the more. He is very lively, handsome, super smart, and very nice! If you're not a good writer, he is willing to help you improve. Class is not hard. He doesn't assign a lot of reading, but read more so your writing will be more sophisticated!!

I took this class b/c I liked the texts listed for reading. Ended up good choice. Not only assigns texts to read - but actually discusses them in class (more than what other profs do). Interesting assignments - always willing to answer questions. Would definitely take a class w/him again.

etter is the best writing teacher at IVC. wr2 is not an easy class but he is a lenient grader and very clear about expectations. also very approachable and kinda funny:) overall a fun class and definately improved my writing

His Intercultural Literature class is interesting and fun. Definitely not boring, great personality. Relates well to students. Tests are okay as long as you prepare for them. 2 essays during the semester with one mid-term and one final. Class discussions on reading assignments. An easy A if you apply yourself. Highly recommend this class. A+++

Definitely one of the best teachers I have ever had. Writing 1 was sort of an intimidating class because I had heard it was hard but Mr. Etter takes classes to schedule 15 minute appointments with each individual person and makes sure his essays and thoroughly explained. Oh, and for all the ladies, he was pretty cute in a dorky professor kinda way.

He is great teacher. He is very clear about what he wants from you in this class. Prof. Etter leads you through the writing process with step by step instruction. He is always ready to help if you need one on one review or any help. Both classes are fairly easy (WR 1 and 2) if you do everything on time. He cares about you learning something.

This guy is the best! He is extremely clear about his assignments, and will help you as much as you need. His assignments are challenging, but also both interesting and relevant. Of the many professors I've had at IVC, Etter was hands down the very best and my favorite by far!

I had a bad experience with Writing 1, but somebody told me to take Etter's class for Writing 2 and I loved it! He doesn't make the class difficult, but you still learn a lot. Awesome teacher! I highly recommend his class!

Prof. Etter is a well-studied, intellectual man but I don't think his teaching abilities are as polished as his literary sense. I'm earning a good grade with him, but at times he seems aloof.

I completely disagree with the previous post about him! I think he is AMAZING! He is really funny, EXTREMELY helpful, and is very passionate about the subject. As long as you attend class and pay attention, you will do well.

Knows SO MUCH about literature!! He is enthusiastic and passionate about his subject and it really motivated me to want to learn and listen. Best tip: take AMAZING lecture notes. It will help tremendously for exams. Also very helpful in writing conferences!

Though I missed a lot of classes, I still managed to pass the class with B. He goes over the readings in class, writes all needed notes on the board and he gives out study sheets for the tests. Fairly easy tests and essay.

I'm an english major, but always found Shakespeare to be a difficult author. Etter made shakespeare relatable and easy to understand. He relates the plays themes to today and clearly outlines the plays while they are being read. He knows what he is talking about, but isn't cocky. He wants his students to understand shakespeare and makes that happen

He is a very nice writing teacher,infact the only nice writing teacher i'v had at ivc. Good Personality, understanding and approachable.

Professor Etter is really funny and helpful. I highly recommend taking him as a professor. He is a very fair grader and his comments are very helpful to help you with your writing. Absolutely phenomenal teacher! He grades on your paper based on your thesis and paragraph structure rather than grammar. Lectures can be fun with his great enthusiasm. He is quite dorky, and might launch a few random jokes, but he's such a caring and respectful man. Definitely recommended before going to Wr 1.

He is extremely popular and petitioners usually do not get into his class (at least when I have had him they do not). Got a B in his class. And go to class, attendance is mandatory!! It will effect your grade.

BEST TEACHER ON CAMPUS. He keeps a steady pace throughout the semester and always helps you stay on track. If you do your work, you will get an A or B. If you take advantage of asking him questions to better your papers, you WILL get an A. He will explain exactly how to fix it to earn full credit.

This teacher was awesome. Honestly, I don't see why so many people dropped. Just tak the notes when he writes on the board and cover them and read the short stories we cover in class. His midterm and final are eays, but his HW is a bit tough. Otherwse, great teacher!

Professor Etter is awesome. His required reading is easy stuff and the assignments take no time at all and he's an easy grader. The midterm was simple enough as long as you understand the ideas he discusses in class. He's funny, quirky and kinda hot. Don't lag on the reading and you'll do fine. Easy class for sure.

I took Professor Etter for WR 1 and WR 2. I absolutely love him. He is extremely helpful and cares about his students. He breaks down everything really well where it makes you understand easily. I actually learned a tremendous amount in his class. Attendance is not mandatory however you can get easily behind by missing.

He's a great instructor & all around good guy but there's a ton of work. Classes are filled with lecture, group activities & reading aloud in every class. You start working on a 15-20 page research paper from early on but he's a tremendous help & gives positive feedback. You also need to give a 5 min presentation followed by a 5 min q&a session.

Professor Etter is such a friendly and charismatic professor! However dont take his one day a week night classes, time goes by insanely slow. He grades fairly and gives amazing feedback on your papers! Hes a chill professor

Has great lectures that introduced the topics on what he wants the papers on. There are homework assignments but they are parts of the final essay so you do not have to sit down and complete a 4 page essay in one day. That is, unless you decide not to finish the homework. You get participation points for being in class.

Amazing teacher! Highly recommend him to anyone taking a WR 2 class at IVC. I have had a pleasant experience in his class. He does a really good job of preparing you for the final essay at the end of the semester. Incredibly dorky and makes dumb jokes, but it helps keep you interested in the class. Professor Etter is super cool. He grades fairly & gives awesome feedback. I would take his class again in a heartbeat. His lectures are interactive & he wants people to participate. I have had many other English professors & he is by far one of the best.

He is best professor to take for WR 1 and WR2. If you have any questions at all take to him after class or during his office hours. If yo have any trouble with an essay I highly recommend you to go to his office hours. The homework assignments that he makes you do are parts of the essay. He prepares you for the final essay.

Etter is awesome. Explains concepts in depth, especially lens text, freud, and Goffman. He's a great guy. Im taking his wr2 next semester. He's a stanford grad I'm pretty sure. Absolute legend. iM an english major and i wish i could take him the next 3 years of school. Also, i am a dude and think he's kinda hot.

Etter is a great professor and get a pretty easy A! This class feels very long and moves pretty slow in my opinion and I often found myself bored in his class so you'll have to try your best to stay focused. He is a very sweet and caring person so if you ever need help just ask him or visit him during office hours!

Taking Professor Etter's class will be your best decision you make at IVC. Writing class always flew by as he planned out activities to get everyone involved. His grading is very fair. The WR 1 class is a total of 1000 points: 4 Essays typed (750), participation (100), Classwork/homework (100) in-class essay (50). Not too much reading or homework.

The fact that Prof. Etter's classes fill up before the registration date should tell you something. He is caring and has a passion for writing. He grants you the freedom of developing your writing style and actually make sures you understand the rules in writing. He even reads over the essays and fixes it for you. He's a real gem.

don't take the one day a week class, it's a torture. sometimes his lectures are boring and sometimes really fun. 4 papers. many of the ESL and non-native students including me felt that they couldn't get A no matter how hard they tried (like he doesn't give you A on purpose???) I got 86-89 on all my papers and 100 on all of the assignments.

Prof. Etter is a great professor. I learned a lot of things I can use outside of his writing class. Very concise and clear with lectures and what is expected in class (funny too). My only wish is that he had a clear grading rubric when grading papers.

He knows what hes talking about and is more than willing to help out when needed. The material he covered was dry and boring, but that was the only downside to his class.

Etter is the best. I had him on Tuesday nights from 6PM-10PM and my only advice is to participate in class and interact otherwise, you might find the lectures long. Moreover he loves it when students participate. Prof Etter gives good feedback and I'd recommend that you go see him during his office hours before you submit your papers.

Easy teacher and grader. Only a few homework assignments that prepare you for the final term paper, so make sure you do your best on the homework. Attendance is mandatory, as it counts towards your class participation. Grading is pretty easy too. Usually never offers extra credit, so if there is any, just do it. Barely got an A and I didn't eventry

Amazing professor! He is lenient when it comes to grading, but he cares more about if you are putting in effort into the class. As long as you turn in all the assignments on time you should be able to get a good grade. Make sure to participate in the class because one it makes the class go faster and two he loves when students participate.

Etter is very understanding and helpful, truly wants you to pass! Although assignments were due almost every week, we never had a quiz. When it comes to essays, he will provide helpful feedback. Overall, a good professor but I didn't like how he made us work in groups every week. Graded on: 8 Informal Writings, 5 Essays.

I love this guy! Just show up tp class and make him read your essay before you turn it in and I guarantee that you'll get an A. Literally the easiest and one of the best classes I've taken.

Prof Etter is a gift to the writing department. I always felt terrible about my writing skill in high school and expected to struggle, but I have much more confidence now from this class. Even for ESL students, you can succeed in this class! I took the 1 time a week class on thursday from 6-10, but I looked forward to it, he made it not miserable.

He is an mazing teacher that really cares for his students. He is accessible outside of his office hours and is willing to help. He gives great feedback. There is not really homework except maybe 7-10 assignments that are super easy. Make sure to get feedback from him for the essays and it will be an easy class, attendence is for participation

Hands down, Professor Etter is the best writing teacher I've ever had. He really cares about his students and does as much as he can to help them succeed. He is the first professor of mine to actually acknowledge my hard work in writing. His criteria are clear and explained thoroughly. His quirkiness made the class easy breezy and fun!

Professor Etter is one of the best writing professors I have had. He teaches all the topics very thoroughly, and helps each student personally during class. The class consists of around 4 writing assignments, which have very easy prompts and are not hard to complete at all. As long as you complete each assignment and get feedback, it's an easy A!

Class is super easy and Etter is just an overall great guy. Has very engaging lecutres and thoroughly gets you ready for the writing assignments. Class is basically made up of 4 essays and research paper. I recommend taking writing conference as well and have him read over your paper. I did this for all my essay and didn't get below a 95%.

Guys, you cannot find any great professor like Pof. Etter for WR1. During the semester, I learned a lot from him in expanding my writing and being an active reader. I highly recommend him.

Pupose of Wr2: - Learn to write a good research paper. - How many research papers did we write in class? 1 - Did we get to choose our own topic? Yes - How many lectures did we have a week? 2 (Ranged from 40 min, 1hr, to 1 hr & 30 min.) - Prof. Etter's grading scale: Easy (I do not belive anyone ever got a grade bellow an A) *Take his class!!*

Professor Etter is AMAZING! This course is just a step by step guide on writing a 15-20 page research paper. My advice for this class is going to his office hours. I went to his office hours at least once a week and he provided so much feedback. I ended this class with 99%. Just put in the effort and this class shouldn't be too difficult.

Professor Etter is a great teacher! Hes very patient with his students and gives great feedback. He made class fun and cracked me up a few times which made class engaging. I looked forward to his class every week. The work isnt hard as long as you put in the effort. Would definitely recommend this class to students taking a starting English Class

He’s very nice and grades fairly. This class is pretty laid back, and the workload wasn’t excessive. If you put in enough work, it shouldn’t be too hard for you.

If you hate writing don't take this class. prof etter is a very energetic and fun teacher to have and does his best to keep you engaged. there's no tests but 4 essays and a couple of smaller writing assignments that help you write your essay. the class is very well-planned and i would definitely recommend etter as a professor

Super caring and funny professor! Cares for his students and always gives amazing and detailed feedback. He makes class as welcoming as possible and always has something nice to say about your writing. There are a lot of essays and some other writing assignments here and there but he's pretty flexible and lenient when it comes to late submission.

Took Etter in Fall 2021 when I began my college journey, and I have become a much better writer thanks to him. He was very helpful and gave us important tips and writing strategies to help us succeed. He gave very helpful feedback for our writing and is just really caring, highly recommended!

Best English teacher I've ever had! Prof. Etter designs this class in an efficient manner so as you do his assignments you've already written half the essay. SUPER flexible with late work and more than willing to help students out with their writing. He's passionate about what he does and it's always interesting to hear what he has to say :)

Amazing Professor that genuinely cares about his students. Can be repetitive during lectures but is always cracking jokes. Classwork is designed to have you done with about half the essay without you even realizing it. Go to his office hours so he can take a closer look at your work and give feedback. If you follow his feedback, its a guaranteed A.

Professor etter was a great introduction in my first semester at IVC. Very kind and personable, he takes the time to give detailed feedback on every assignment. His lectures are engaging and he sets you up for success not only for his class but college writing in general. I would highly recommend him if you need to take WR1.

I hate anything history but LOVED this class. Really kind and funny guy and makes everything interesting. Lectures are great, fun and understandable, and notes are very easy to take. Gives study guides and has a review class before exams. Homework, if anything, is mostly around 3-12 pages of reading. Highly recommend this teacher and course.
