not bad--difficult, but he's cool
This teacher is an excellent teacher. He has everything he teaches on powerpoint and will send it to his classes prior to lecture so you can read through it and take notes on it while he is teaching if things aren't clear enough.
Excellent professor. Difficult tests given, but wonderful labs and basic information concerning animal science is well taught.
Dr. Flowers is an awesome teacher and really great guy. If you ever have questions regarding the class or anything to do with your major he will help you out completely. Definately one of the best professors you could ever ask for.

Such a nice guy!! He's always helped me out when I needed it and he tells you exactly what he's expecting. I really enjoy his class and how he teaches it.
Dr. Flowers rocks! He teaches using powerpoints and u get a CD with his powerpoints on it to keep so that you dont have to take notes and can listen instead. He explains the information well and makes sure you know what to study for the tests. Lots of quizes though. Lots of information. Would love to take another one of his classes.
I took Dr. Flowers for both 150 (Intro to Animal Science) and 403 (Swine Manangement). He is extremely enthusiastic, never forgets a face, and very willing to help students learn. 403 was great because he didn't force us to work separately, we worked in groups, more like the real world. I would recommend Flowers to anyone to take his class.
Awesome class with a lot of information. Labs are great. Flowers is an amazing professor.
Dr. Flowers is great! He takes the time to learn EVERYONE'S names which I think is really nice. His tests are not hard if you study the material on the disk he gives you at the beginning of the semester. He is very upfront about what he expects and is willing to work with you or help you out if you need it.
very hard class but you learn alot and Dr. Flowers is an extremely good teacher and he is always there to talk if you need him. If he sees that youre trying then he will help you out. Do the practice tests and meet with him every once in a while just to kepp up on things you can do to improve your grade. He really does love his job
Awesome professor! my favorite by far! he memorizes everyones names after the first lab and he is an excellent teacher. his exams are quizes are not hard if you study. he has a great sense of humor and is very easy going. he is hard not to like
Favorite professor I've had in college by far! He is so willing to help and his enthusiasm about his course is contagious! I would recommend him and this class to anyone!
He is an awesome professor! Having him as my first professor of my first day definitel helped me gain confidence! He wants to help students, not just get his paycheck. He knows everyones name, which is how he takes attendence, so go to class. And he doesn't mind explaining things a few times, or in a different way so we can understand.
GREAT teacher! My favorite!! He is easy to talk to and he thoroughly teaches. He is funny and just all around amazing. He is very picky when it comes to grading the tests but all the information is there and as long as you study then you will do fine. The labs are also sooooo much fun. If you enjoy animals TAKE THIS CLASS!
Dr. Flowers is a great professor. He remembers your name after the first week of school and never forgets. He is very hard but the material is very interesting. Labs are awesome and so much fun. You definitely learn a lot in the class and he is so helpful and wants you to do well.
Dr. Flowers is the best. As has been said, he really does remember everyone's name. He does this because he has a photographic memory. He'll also whip out football stats from the 80s. The tests are hard - study. But he's amazing. He does everything he can to help you succeed. Study groups help a LOT. 151 was my favorite lab EVER. So hands on!
I LOVE HIM! He really set the bar high for all the other teachers I will have. I felt so comfortable instantly with him and could ask him anything and joke around. Hard tests but manageable. He loves his job and watching you enjoy it. The lab was a BLAST and it really reminded me why I'm an ANS major. If you have the chance, take his class!
Dr. Flowers is so great. Like what everyone said before, he really enjoys his job and knows everyone's name. Study details for the tests and do the practice/old tests he posts online. ANS 151 (the lab) is so much fun! Take this class if you love animals or want a fun science class.
ONLINE CLASS-participate in the weekly online chat it adds points to your grade and it's easy to have input. Listen to the lectures-homeworks are easy. Tests are difficult. He likes to use trick questions! I found the final very hard and it was cumulative.
Dr.Flowers is a great professor to have! He explains everyhting very clearly and makes the lectures pretty enjoyable. His tests are a bit hard; but as long as you study the powerpoints and the tests from previous years you should be good.
Dr. Flowers is a great guy with an exceptional style of teaching. His test are hard but with some studying you will do fine.
Dr. Flowers is so passionate about the material. He is very enthusiastic and actually keep your interest, even if you're not a morning person. He cares about his students and is very willing to help. Although, he is a tough grader and his class is hard, it was still my favorite.
Dr. Flowers is mainly a reproduction physiologist. He tends to talk a lot on breeding in his Animal Science Intro course, but he does focus on other areas as well. He is always willing to help and will often set students up with outside opportunities. He covers a lot of material in class, so you have to study hard. Overall, he's very helpful.
You know that one professor who can change your college career? Dr. Flowers is like that for ANS students. Seriously - he's a great teacher and an expert. BUT, it was my hardest class. I studied with a partner and barely got the grade I wanted for each one. Test grades are the only grades he gives. Even with this I say take the class.
Doctor Flowers is so sweet, but be prepared to work harder in this class than any class you've ever had. I study so much more for his class and it's the one I'm doing the worst in, but if you love animals, I strongly recommend his class because he is an awesome professor!
Smartest and most passionate teacher ever. He is the sweetest guy and will do anything to help you out. He's not strict at all. Theres no homework and you dont have to buy a textbook for this class. That being said.. I studied everyday for a week for his exams and I still didnt get As. hes a tough grader and the exams are hard but youll get through
Amazing professor. He covers a lot of material, especially if you have no prior knowledge of the subject. His tests are very difficult, consisting entirely of short answers. Study with a friend and study the lecture notes (not the last minute!) and you'll do fine.
Dr Flowers is a wonderful and enthusiastic teacher. He's nice, respectful, and receptive to questions. The only downfalls are that there is no textbook for this course, the course covers a lot of broad topics, and the only grades you get are from the tests. Therefore, you have to study his notes and recorded lectures intensely for a good grade.
He's a really great teacher who knows his stuff and is great at conveying his knowledge to his students, but his tests are very specific so be prepared to study hard. He will help you at any chance he gets, so go to his office hours if you need help.
Dr. Flowers is the sweetest man alive, but his tests are the hardest thing I've ever endured. Oh, and the few tests you have are the ONLY grades. He said himself it's the hardest class in the animal science major. You have to wok really hard for a decent grade.
Dr. Flowers discusses the material clearly and makes corny jokes about pigs, but I love it. You may not like him if you're not into that kind of thing. But overall an awesome professor and human being. Make sure to study for his exams!
love dr flowers but if you take this class you better be prepared to study what you learn is really important though if you're an animal science major
Dr. Flowers is a really awesome person and professor, but his exams are extremely hard. If you don't study a few days prior you will not pass. His exams are all short answer/essay with no multiple choice and its all applied knowledge, no memorization. Its really tough course but still I loved his class.
Sweetest guy ever, just has super hard tests. Be prepared to study your butt off. Never got the grade I wanted on the tests but the class was doable if you're willing to work for it.
love him!
For an introductory class, it was very much focused on livestock mammals. Especially pigs. Flowers loves pigs. But he does eventually cover a broader range of animals and Flowers does a great job of describing the individual management for each animal and the biological reasons behind it. He will know your name by the first lab.
Dr. Flowers is an interesting man. I suggest attending class because he uses his powerpoints as a base and explains topics more broadly in lecture (although all information that is tested is on the powerpoints). I suggest pairing the lab and lecture because there is a lot of crossover of information and it makes it easier to visualize. MUST STUDY!
Super smart, super nice, super helpful. Study your ASS off for the tests, and know more than you think you need to, because chances are that's not even enough. Interesting lectures as well.
This class is designed to weed out all the animal science majors who won't make it in the field. The tests aren't hard, they just aren't multiple choice. He tends to say the important information in class and not put it in his PowerPoints so attendance is important! Gives good feedback for tests improvement next time. Very funny guy, in my opinion.
This guy has been my favorite professor so far. USE YOUR OFFICE HOURS. He will answer questions, offer advice, and often guide you in what aspect of the material he thinks is most important. Attend class and find a study group. All of my friends did well on the exams because we would talk about the material.
Dr. Flowers is one of the most intelligent professors at this school, therefore his tests are equally as hard. Start studying a week in advance! You'll get let out of on-campus labs 2 hours early and animal unit labs are a ton of fun. Be sure to write what he says in lectures, not just the powerpoint material (and do a little background research).
Dr. Flowers is a wonderful professor, but his tests are pretty difficult if you don't take a good amount of time to study. He's enthusiastic about Animal Science and that makes his class interesting. The labs are really fun and he lets you get a lot of hands on experience. He doesn't stress attendance but being in class does help come test time.
Dr. Flowers is probably one of the best teachers I've had. If you're struggling on tests, ask him for help, and he can tell you what you can work on to get a better grade for the next one. He takes the time to get to know at least the name of each student's name, labs are incredible-- but study hard for tests. There's lots of information to cover
great class, funny but still teaches you a lot his lectures are also online recommend this teacher. he knows every student he has likes to get to know you
Dr. Flowers is amazing. Although his class is very heavily agriculture animal based you will still learn so much. He is a genius and he will know your name by the second day. Overall he is wonderful. The tests are very hard though so DO NOT underestimate them.
Awesome Teacher! I wish I could have taken Flowers for 150 and 151. If you get a chance to take any of his classes, don't miss out!
Dr. Flowers is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. He is funny, informative, organized, and makes a genuine effort to get to know all of his students (his ability to remember names is a talent). He is an extraordinarily tough grader, but it is not impossible to do well if you put in the time and effort.
Dr. Flowers is knowledgeable about the subject that he teaches and gives feedback on anything whenever you need it. There is a lab with this class and you are in groups for the lab, which you also take group exams with, so beware of that. He has a great attitude, as long as you get your work done and go to class, you won't have a problem.
Flowers is a great guy! He is so knowledgable. Loves pigs (that's his job), so that's either a good or bad thing depending on your animal preferences. But you do get a lot of info on the other animals as well. His is GREAT in labs. It's also amazing because he learns the name of every student within like a month. Not an easy class, but enjoyable.
Dr. Flowers is a gifted man. After the first couple lectures I thought he was a bit condescending but as I got to know him I found that he's really just an actual genius. People complain about how detail oriented he is but you can't really blame him as he has a photographic memory. Put everything he presents on a flashcard and memorize it.
great teacher. really nice, funny. lectures are basically him just reading over the powerpoint. The lab is fun and very hands on. Memorizes everyones name and face. Tests are open ended and he looks for specific answers so you really have to know the material. There is no homework and he gives up to 25 extra credit points which are easy.
he's a great teacher, but be prepared to study a lot. from the lectures it seems easy but his tests are very hard. his tests are open ended and he's a very hard grader so you have to know everything. the lab is a ton of fun though, just don't start studying for the tests the night before.
Amazing professor! He knows what he is talking about and makes the lab very fun and hands-on. He is also pretty funny and a nice professor. He remembers all his students names by the first few weeks of class!
While the tests in the class are hard (they're all free response), they can be passed if you study. The information is interesting and Flowers is very easy to get along with and cares about each of his students. He takes time to learn every single persons name even with over 200 people in his class, the labs are extremely fun and interactive also.
Dr. Flowers is a very kind man. He is pretty funny and knows everyone in the class by name in just a few weeks. Be ready for lectures almost every day, but if you get ahead there are sometimes lecture free days. Definitely go over the practice tests before the test and listen to stuff he says not just the powerpoint. He is also ready to help!
Dr. Flowers is the best professor I have ever had and probably will ever have. Although his tests are not easy, he really forces his students to think outside the box and apply what we've learned in class to real-world scenarios. He is funny, passionate, approachable, and incredibly knowledgeable. I will miss his class so much!
Dr. Flowers is a great professor and truly cares about his students. The tests are hard as they are free response and he wants to ensure you truly understand and can apply the information he taught you to a real life scenario that you have likely never encountered before. Very accessible during office hours and a genuinely nice person.
Dr. Flower's is not only an amazing person but an amazing professor! Power points were available online but he did mention some more specifics in class. Only bad thing about this class is that the only grades were tests and they were graded very meticulously. It is a very difficult class to get through and was meant to weed kids out.
One of my favorite professors. Extremely knowledge about animal science (swine especially) and the labs are a lot of fun. NEVER underestimate how hard the exams are, and definitely go to office hours, he will review material and tell you what you need to focus on. Overall an amazing class, just requires a lot of studying.
The best professor I have ever had! I love his lectures and genuinely looked forward to going to his class. Don't forget to study for those tests, though. Numbers are important!
Going to class isn't mandatory but Dr. Flowers goes into further detail than what's on the powerpoints. He gives all of the powerpoints and old tests on moodle so you have access. He is also EXTREMELY helpful if you are confused about something. Office hours or making an appointment are worth it.
Dr. Flowers is not only an amazing professor, but also an amazing person. It shows that he cares about what he's teaching and the future success of his students.
Dr. Flowers is a great professor! Your grade heavily relies on the tests and final, but he does give some easy forums throughout the semester for extra credit. The tests are all short answer or essay questions, so you really need to prepare for them. Despite all the work, it was by far my favorite class for this semester.
Wonderful professor and class! I could tell he cared about his students and their success in the class. Was very nice and willing to answers questions during office hours. Beware test are hard and 100% of your grade but if you study and do what he says you'll be ok. He also offers extra credit which can boost your grade a whole letter point too.
Loved Dr. Flowers, hated the class. I thought it was really interesting but the entire grade for the course is based off of 4 tests and the final, and he always graded the exams pretty harsh. The content itself is interesting though, and I made an A- in the lab (which he personally teaches as well).
Dr. Flower's ANS 150 class is for sure a weed-out class, but his genuine interest in the material makes the class interesting. Beware of the tests--the SA are always very specific, and the FRQs are often also very specific scenarios. Study study study, especially for the first test because that's the one most people fail. Good luck!
As a freshman in ANS, having a class like this was amazing! Taught me so much about animals along with how to be a better student. It is HARD, lots of hours put in studying, but SUPER interesting and fun. Don't get too down if you get a bad test grade, he is more than happy to help you improve. Amazing person who cares so much. APPLY info!!!!
Dr. Flowers is the only professor for ANS 150 and 151, so you're going to having to take him if you're an animal science major. His tests are incredibly hard and he is looking for specific detailed answers that mostly only he knows. I haven't made a test grade above a 74 and I would spend days studying for his exams. Your only grades are tests!
Dr. Flowers is a very kind and enthusiastic professor. However, your only grades are exams and he grades them very specifically. I enjoyed the lectures a lot but receiving exam grades would just take out all of my motivation for a few days. Animal Science majors: be prepared for the challenge.
Good professor but it is hard to pass his class. He does offer extra credit. Make sure you study and pay attention to lectures.
Very challenging class. Dr. Flowers makes his lectures enjoyable and interesting, you can tell he wants his students to really understand the material. Exams are all short answer/essay and TOUGH. Make sure you can type pretty quick for his exams. I think the class would have been much more enjoyable in person.
Dr. Flowers is a great teacher but make sure you attend all of the lectures and take notes! It was my first class online so I definitely skipped a lot of the lectures and stopped taking notes about 3 weeks in. As long as you actually try, you will be fine. Make sure to be as specific as possible on the tests and know the information well.
He was an ok lecturer and really cared about the material but a HORRIBLE grader. His tests are impossible. He makes them very specific and takes off points for the tiniest things left out. I had many nights spent crying because of bad test grades after studying for 15 hours for each test. Take the other professor for this course.
Wonderful professor that really values his students and takes the time to get to know them.
Fantastic professor! Interesting lectures and hands on opportunities in the lab. Extra credit opportunities. Definitely study and know your stuff for the tests and you will do fine! 100% my favorite class this semester!
I loved Dr. Flowers and his class but it's tough. Tests are your only grade and he's a tough grader. I had to work extremely hard in this class.
This will be my favorite hands-on lab for most likely the rest of college. This was an amazing lab for someone who didn't grow up with animals like the majority of my major. Lab practicals do cover a lot so make sure you study, but super fun lab.
I absolutely enjoyed Dr. Flowers class, especially because of our similar love for pigs! You must show up to the lectures to get the full benefit of the material to be able to pass the course. I will say that his exams are hard just because they are written thought questions, but if you show up and do your part this class is awesome!
Dr. Flowers is clearly passionate about both pigs and his students. The course consists of just tests with a couple of extra credit discussions. His tests are short answer and while some said he was picky, I believe he was fair. You don't have to go to lecture but it really helps. Taking the lecture and lab together is prefect for students.
Dr. Flowers is the best professor I have had at NC State. He responds to emails promptly, and if you don't understand something, he wants to help because he wants you to learn. Attendance is not required or a part of your grade but he knows who comes to class and who doesn't. Listening to what he says in lectures also helps a tremendous amount.
Very good professor who knows his stuff. This class was based solely on group work which made it a lot easier than some other classes since there was always someone who knew what they were doing. Overall, a good class to get a good grade in.
Dr. Flowers is an amazing professor. He truly cares about the topics he discusses in class. All lectures are recorded but I would highly recommend going in person since he gives good information that is not on the slides. The entire grade is made up of 4 written tests, a mc final, and 25 extra credit points (5 discussions).
ANS 151 is the lab portion of ANS 150. It is a wonderful chance to get hands-on experience with many animal species. Attendance is mandatory and appropriate attire is required. The grade is made up of 2 practicals (exams) and a ton of participation labs. Overall, it's quite easy, very interesting, and extremely rewarding. I highly recommend it.
Great professor, exams are all free response so make sure you study. No textbook required, funny professor and gives "distance education" classes near the holidays which is great, take that time to relax and sleep in. Very understanding and he knows what he's material.
I love the lectures he gives but beware of missing slides. some slides will be in his presentation, but not on moodle. Other than that, he will occasionally cancel lectures so you can have an extended break, but his exams are quite difficult unless you absolutely know the material. even then it is still somewhat difficult. Nice person though.
Dr. Flowers is a great professor and very knowledgeable. The class consists of 4 tests and a final with a few small extra credit discussion posts. Study for the test well in advance and spending time to really understand the information is crucial to passing this class.
I love Dr. Flowers. He was one of the best professors I have ever had. He obviously loves what he is teaching and that passion transfers to his students. Listen to everything he says, including key phrases he uses in lecture for hints :)
While I did not do as well as I wanted to in this class, he is a good professor. He uses powerpoints all semester instead of a textbook. Exam grades are a large portion of overall grade. He does not have graded assignments to factor into the overall grade. We were given an extra credit opportunity through 5 discussion boards throughout the year.
Dr. Flowers is one of my favorite professors. He really cares about his students and learns everyone's names. He is a tough grader; however, if you study hard and pay attention in class you will do well. He is also accessible outside of class and offers extra credit through discussion forums. I really enjoyed this class. Dr. Flowers is the best!
Dr. Flowers is really passionate about animals and what he teaches. This class was hard and stressful for me and I am just glad that it is now over. Although I studied alot, I feel like he words his tests weird(all open response except for the final) he is always available over email and if youre struggling, I suggest you meet up with him in person
There are 2 lab practical's and I just suggest studying the material as you learn it! Also take advantage of the lab notes and powerpoints with pictures- i found out about this when there was only a month of class left. We do assignments during the lab with a group.
Dr. Flowers made my first semester memorable. His lectures are enjoyable and was able to learn something every time. The only grades in this course are exams so make sure to study throughout the semester instead of right before a test. Exams are all written so knowing how to apply your knowledge is key. Great professor who enjoys his job
Dr flowers clearly knows a-lot and is passionate about what he is teaching and it makes learning the content somewhat enjoyable. The grade is entirely made up of exams which are all short answer. The exams are very difficult but he lets you know that upfront. Overall I learned a lot from the class.
Dr. Flowers is an amazing and caring professor. Since 4 tests and the final are the only grades you get (other than extra credit discussion posts worth up to 25 points), make sure to STUDY STUDY! Going to his office hours or making an appointment is helpful and he is always so thorough in his emails! Make sure to listen to EVERYTHING he says!
The 151 lab that goes with the 150 class was very fun. Your main grades for the lab consist of two practicals (with some other points for participating). Definitely make sure to start reviewing early for the practicals as they consist of a lot of information! Making Quizlets really helped, especially for knowing breeds, anatomy, and tools!
Dr. Flowers is the sweetest person ever. It is very clear that he cares about all of his students and wants them to suceed. This being said the tests are difficult, but after taking the first one they becoming easier because you learn how to better prepare for them. Flowers also offers 5 discussion post for extra credit which helps your grade.
Super amazing professor! Really interesting lectures and really cares about what he teaches. He really cares about his students and will help you if you ask! Only graded on 4 tests, some extra credit and a final exam. Tests are really hard so make sure you study for them! No curves on tests either.
Dr. Flowers was a great, quirky teacher! He cares plenty about what he teaches, and this course is designed to be a weed-out class. So this means it's difficult, but if you study a lot and can infer information learned from lectures then you can pass the tests. He is a tough grader and no multiple choice on tests. Other than that I learned a lot!
Flowers is an AMAZING professor and cares a lot, but beware, this class is very difficult (meant to be a weed out class). He is a tough grader when it comes to exams, however he does offer a few extra credit opportunities throughout the semester so make sure you do them!
Dr. Flowers has a rigorous course but is very passionate about his teaching. No matter the grade you receive, you are going to leave that class knowing more than when you started.
Flowers is a great professor and really cares for his students. His class is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken though. Exams are all free responses and make sure answers are detailed. He does offer a little extra credit make sure you do all of them. It is considered a weed-out class for those pursuing vet school because of the difficulty
I really enjoy Dr. Flowers as a professor, I have learned a lot, however, his class is not easy. At all. The grade is entirely based on the four exams and final that you will take. Just a heads up, exams are entirely written, no multiple-choice questions.
Dr. Flowers is a very passionate and encouraging instructor. His exams are hard - they require you to study well and actually LEARN the material. They are all written answer and can be tough to complete in the time given. He presents the material clearly and provides plenty of resources to succeed. If you WANT to do well in his class, you WILL.
Dr. Flowers is a teacher that ultimately wants the best for his students. The class is graded on 4 exams and 1 final- no other assignments. There is a few opportunities to earn extra credit so make sure to complete that! This class is a weed-out class so make sure to pay attention to not just the slides but what he says during lecture as well!
He is the BEST professor I've had so far. He only grades based on tests, but if you pay attention and have an interest in the material, you'll do fine. He does do extra credit, 5 discussion boards worth 5 pts each. I heard he doesn't fail anyone, even if you fail every exam, as long as you're showing that you're trying, he'll see your effort.
He is the BEST! He only has tests for grades. He does do extra credit, 5 discussion boards 5 pts each. He doesn't really fail anyone, as long as he sees you trying your hardest, you'll pass, even if you fail every test. He is a great advocator for students! He really does care about his students and is very accessible outside of class.
Dr. Flowers is one of the most caring professors on campus. He knows every student by name. This being said this class is a weed-out class. It is all exams and they are graded very harshly. Everyone bombs the first exam. This class is like a right of passage for ANS students. Remember to study hard and do your best and everything will work out.
Best professor ever. So passionate about what he teaches. Learns every student by name. His exams will kick your butt, so study study study. Do the extra credit and you'll be fine, and the final is super easy too. Grade based only on tests. Learned so much in this class and I can't wait to take more of his classes in the future.
Amazing professor, you are only graded by the 4 exams and a few discussion posts for extra credit, so studying is important. No quizzes or homework to worry about and the lectures will cover everything on the exams. One of the best professors at State and willing to help anyone with anything inside or outside of the course.
The class is difficult, but not impossible. Tests are free response except the final, so you need good study habits. If you can't recite the material from memory, you probably are not ready for the exams. I wasn't interested in farm animals coming in, but he makes everything interesting! Extra credit is discussion boards (make sure you do them!!!).
ANS150 with Dr. Flowers is not an easy class or a free grade and exams will kick your butt, but he is clearly passionate about what he teaches and learns every student by name. Very accessible outside of class and very helpful. Grade is based on strictly exams, but does have 5 extra credit discussion posts (do them!). Worth taking.
Best professor I've had. Super kind to the students and clearly cared about all of them. Always available to answer any questions, both in person and outside of class. There's only 2 practicals, with a lot of memorization and details, but they shouldn't be hard if you don't procrastinate. Great at explaining, and makes sure material is understood.
Dr Flowers is an amazing professor who is extremely passionate about his classes and ANS. However 150 was much harder compared to 151. They both go hand in hand, but the course lectures and exams were much harder. It is a heavy content course with grades based solely on exams and extra credit. As long as you prepare and study you should be ok!
Dr. Flowers is the best professor I have had at NC State. He is very knowledgeable and seems very passionate about what he is teaching. His class is hard though with the only grades being 4 tests and a final exam. But he does give up to 25 extra credit points. You can't study a night before the test. Just put in the work and you will do fine.
The lab is easy and there are only 2 practicals. It is fun and like an introduction class to labs in the animal science major. Dr. Flowers knows a lot and will always help when needed.
Challenging but rewarding class with an engaged professor. Exams are tricky, so studying hard is crucial. Unstuck ai proved helpful for exam prep. Attend lectures, do extra credit, and you'll learn a lot.
Dr. Flowers was such an amazing professor and genuinely seems to care about his students. He makes his lectures very interesting! He claims that you only need to write one-word answers on the test, but I found that if you don't write every specific thing about the question that was said in lecture, he would take points off. Very difficult but great
For this class there are two tests based on the field trips you take to the Biomedical Centennial Campus. These trips are so fun, but you really need to pay attention to what is taught on these trips. The tests are very specific, and I did not do great on either which is why I got a low grade. Thankfully it's only a 1 credit class. Amazing teacher!
Dr. Flowers is very passionate about animal science which makes him such a great professor. Your grade relies on four exams, one final, and extra credit. The exams are written and he is a tough grader, so make sure you study. The final is much easier as it's multiple choice. You can get 25 points in extra credit by answering easy discussion posts.
Dr. Flowers is an amazing professor and you can tell he loves what he does. His exams are completely written response except for the final so make sure you take the time to study, but he was pretty lenient at giving out partial credit. He learned everyone's name (250 person class) in the first week. You can really tell he cares about his students.
The labs were really fun and hands on. Make sure you study the terminology and anatomy before the 2 practicals and you will pass this lab easily. Content was easily accessible which was really helpful for studying and knowing exactly what to learn. Dr. Flowers was very approachable and helpful during labs. Loved this class!
Dr. Flowers has been one of the best teachers I have had here. The class is test heavy, but the information is all from the lectures which are engaging. He cares so much about his students, and is always willing to help during office hours.
AMAZING professor. Cares so deeply for everyone (learns EVERYONE by name), genuinely wants you to learn and succeed. Tests are extremely hard as this is a typical freshman animal science weed-out class. Study study study. Even if you do poorly on the exams, extra credit forums are available to help your grade! Learned so much from this class.
Super hard class for no reason! i'm doing so well in my other classes but this one. don't waste your time on the practice/sample/old tests he provides, they look nothing like the actual test. be sure to ask him how he actually wants work to be shown because shortcuts he takes in his old tests don't work for the actual exam. terrible grader
Love love love Dr. Flowers. He is super understanding for any special testing needs and he is just a really great guy. His class is kind of difficult but as long as you go over the past exams you should be golden, especially the long answer questions. You also get 25 extra credit points through really easy response questions.
Dr. Flowers is a good professor. His lectures are engaging, and he is approachable. He cares about each and every student, and learns EVERYONE by name. Overall, I have learned a lot from his class and found it beneficial, but his midterms are insanely difficult. Half of the class failed the first exam, and he was happy about the results...
Such a fun lab. Very hands-on, and you learn A LOT. Half the grade is participation, so make sure not to miss a single day. The other half is based on two fairly easy lab practicals; just study the material for a few days, and you should be good.
Dr. Flowers is very passionate about what he teaches which helps with focusing during class, but the tests are almost impossible to get higher than a b on, which would be fine if there were other hw/ quiz grades to soften the impact but no. The final was also a lot easier than any of the lecture exams and its worth a lot of credit so thats a bonus.
The lab is really easy as long as you study for the practicals, which require a good amount of memorization, but yeah Dr. Flowers memorizes everyone's names and will talk to you during the labs. Listen to what he says because it is important and will be on the practical exams.
Lab was very hands-on at all the units, with introductory tasks at each one. Lab is the easiest place to talk to Dr. Flowers, ask questions, and he truly learns everyone. Grades are based on two practicals and participation. Study hard, but it's not unreasonable. Not everything on the practical is covered in lab, but all study materials are online.
Dr. Flowers is super sweet and has well-organized lectures, and all slides are posted. STUDY. The exams are extremely difficult and mostly comparison and application based. You can study your brains out and still score low, very low - which is frustrating, but he offers some easy extra credit. Despite grades, very valuable class. I'd take again!
Dr. Flowers is an excellent professor and a genuinely kind, supportive person. The course is challenging & everything he says is important and fair game for exams. There are four exams of similar difficulty. Success requires consistent effort and applying the material, but he is always willing to help and provide valuable feedback if you reach out.
For this lab, much of your grade comes from attendance and participation, with the rest based on two lab practicals. The practicals are challenging, as everything covered in the lab and TA notes is fair game. There is heavy memorization, and Canvas may not fully reflect exam content. Still, it's a fun class, and with studying, you can do very well.
