As long as you attend class or at least get the notes, the class and assignments are easy. If you need a review or help before going into Calc, it's definately worth it.

I've never seen a math teacher who is more enthusiastic about teaching, Girton is a legend in his own right. If you have the opportunity, take his class, you'll definitely learn the material and pass so long as you pay attention and study appropriately.

This is a great teacher! He is goofy sometimes, but he is clear in his teachings. He will definetly take the time to explain the material to you, and is happy to do so! I would recommend this professor to any body!!! Very strong teaching skills. Very pleased.

good teacher, i can see how he'd work well for most students who just don't get calculus, personally i think he, like so many others, focuses too much on note-taking, memorization, and "studying" but at least his class is easy to pass even without going (so long as you know your stuff)

Girton is awesome! I was very scared about taking calc, but his enthusiasm and great explainations made the class as enjoyable as possible. The notes are sometimes a bit scattered, but the qualtity of his notes and descriptions are well worth it!

Girton is a great teacher! His lectures on math are very fast, but if your like me, that keeps you at the edge of your seat....It's much better than a slow teacher....He is friendly toward students. I had to take calc 1 again and took Girton on a friend's reccomendation. Best teacher ever. Talks kinda quiet, but if you pay attention you'll learn. I had Amani as his GSA. She was also helpful. Very relaxed guy. Definite;ly take him.

don't buy the book, you won't use it. but this guy is amazing! he always reviews at the beginning of class (that doesn't mean you can skip and think you will get it from the review!) and his tests are like the practice tests. the online homework is always harder than the tests/quizzes, so if you can do the homework, the rest is a snap.

One of the best prof I have had. Test are like practice tests. Reviews before every class. the man moves fast and can be all over the board in just seconds. only thing i didn't like about him. his new balance kicks are fresh. All white or suede.

Dr. Girton is an excellent professor. He cares about his students and goes above and beyond to help out. Lectures are fast-paced (he sometimes even RUNS from one side of the board to the other) so it can be tough to keep up. All things considered, he's an exellent prof. who is definitely passionate about the subject.

This guy is the epitome of a nerd, calculator watch & all! But he's hilarious to watch and if you pay attention, you'll do fine. He's very helpful w/ questions and offers to meet after class. Practice tests are just like the real tests as well. Keep up and you'll do great.

One of the best teachers I ever had. Takes some getting used to his mile a minute writing speed but he is so helpful for everything. Tests are questions from quizzes with different numbers. You don't really need the book. He is also quirky and funny at times. Awesome math professor!!

The absolute best teacher for any lower level math class. He makes hard topics you may have struggled with previously a breeze. He knows his materials in and out and makes it impossible for you to not understand. I struggled in high school with this same subject and now all i do is show up to class and i ace the exams with flying colors. TAKE HIM

Dr. Girton is a good professor but his GSA I had is insulting and verbally abusive to his students at times. I had to study hard to pass even when I had taken the class in high school

I could never teach myself the things I learn from him. Focus is on concepts, not arithmetic. He answers questions clearly in class, and is very helpful in his office. Calculus is not an easy subject, but Dr Girton helps A LOT. Textbook isn't used unless you want to use it. I wish I had all my math classes from him!

Obsessed with Dr. Girton

Girton is a very nice man who does his best with one of the hardest subjects to teach at FIT. This is one of the hardest courses I have ever taken and he does his best by dropping the worst quiz grades and offering review sessions through a former student of his. I'll be passing his class, but barely because i just don't do well on tests.

Dr. Girton is very excited about math. He makes things very clear and obviously enjoys teaching. He good at explaining things and has little tricks for certain problems that you may not have heard of. He is not very good at responding to emails and tends to send you to other people to work things out for problems in his class.

Extremely helpful and clear, and focuses on calculus instead of complicating problems with intense algebra, meaning his tests tend to be easier. Dr. Girton has a wonderful teaching style and is very informal, making him easily approachable. Recommended 100%. He even gave a formula sheet for the last test on series.

Had him for Calc 1 and 2, and loved those experiences. Such a passionate and awesome guy. Teaches what's important. Labs are a nice way to study the subject(s), because that's what the tests (and exams) will be like. I wish he also taught higher level math courses.

I love william girton. I went to his office hours and he taught me the whole course on his breaks. He's very very very fast, but it kept me at the edge of my seat, and he knows his math very very well. Its a great teacher to have had and I recommend him if you want to learn math, but you have to be motivated and actually want to learn it like i did

The best math professor I have had at FIT. He clearly enjoys his job and it shows, he is enthusiastic about the material and more than willing to help you before or after class. He doesn't necessarily make the subject fun for those who don't like it but his enthusiasm holds your attention for the entire lecture.

If you want an easy A for Calc 3, I'd definitely recommend taking it with Dr. Girton. Just pay attention in his class and your A is almost guaranteed.

Dr. Girton is amazing!!!! Attend class, do the homework each night base on that days class, and study the practice exam if you do this you will ace this class. He sets up class that if you put in the work you will success! He is also super helpful if you have any questions at all.

I love his teaching style! Step- by- step, on the board, covers every type of variation to a problem. He makes math seem easy! He does go fast but you should be fine if you pay full attention in class. He is smart and great at answering questions. Only negative thing I have to say is he won't respond you on Canvas or emails too quickly.

Girton is a great teacher. He is very good at going step by step to ensure that students can take complete notes and have a full understanding. He's also good at bridging the gap between what we may have learned during MTH 1001 and 1002 and applying that knowledge to MTH 2001.

By far the best math professor I've ever had. Period. His ability to go over entire lessons in such detail and answer student questions all within his allotted lecture time is very impressive. He really goes the extra mile for his students. 10/10 would recommend for Calc 3.

He is the best period

Dr. Girton is a good lecturer and for Calc 3 was one of the best in the department. He pretty much writes the tests so he teaches to them and makes the class easy to pass. One of the important considerations is seating. He speaks softly and blocks the board when writing so sit on his left-hand side and as cose as you can get.

The material is very easy compared to Calc 2, only challenging part of the course was chapter 16. I only came to class when I had to take a quiz. There is lots of homework but if you complete it you will be more than prepared for the quizzes and tests. The lab worksheets are also helpful. He talks very fast and is hard to follow on the whiteboard.

FYI all FIT calc instructors have the same curriculum and tests etc. Dr. Girton was an amazing instructor and went into detail explaining everything step by step. He would take time to reteach anything that students were confused about or forgot. If youre nervous about calculus 1, take the intensive course (2 hrs long instead of 1).

Dr. Girton is an exceptional math professor, even during the pandemic. He reviews the previous few class teachings to make sure everyone gets it and the GSAs are always available if you dont. Hands down, would take again.

Prof Girton is a lot to handle at first, he does go through all the material that you need to know but it may be a little unorganized and crazy on the board. He also has review days before tests ad quizzes and he went over exactly what type of questions would be on the quiz or test, which was very helpful. I made sure I got Girton again for Calc 2.

Dr. Girton was a solid instructor for my calc1. Lectures were right to the point but throughout, and the quiz and test material is very close to what's taught in class. If you can't make class (optional attendance), definitely watch the lectures online.

Math has never been my strongest subject, but Dr. Girton has made pre-calc so much better than it was for me in high school. He seems to really enjoy teaching and explains concepts very concisely and welcomes all questions. What's on the tests/quizzes is never a surprise and he provides plenty of time for the homework. Strongly recommend his class.

Had him for calc 1 and 2, and wish I had him for the rest of my math credits. Concise and clear lectures, some say he's a bit fast but his lectures are recorded. Extremely helpful office hours, just overall an excellent educator.

Dr. Girton is a professor highly passionate about calculus and provides great lectures over the course material. He takes 10 minutes in the beginning of every class to summarize the previous lecture and provides timely practice problems for upcoming quizzes and exams.

During lectures, he does tend talk quietly and fast which can be difficult to keep up and take notes, but he makes up for it by thoroughly explaining and providing many examples for each topic he reviews. The labs help a lot with extra practice and a time to ask questions, and all of the homework is only due on quiz or test days.

His lectures are excellent and on par with Kahn Academy. He gives fantastic reviews before every exam. Attending his lectures was often the only studying I needed. There is a lot of homework, which can become very challenging later in the semester. You will be fine if you pay attention in class and go to tutoring when needed.

Super cool guy! I failed math with "C" and "D" 's my entire life, but I actually understood what he was talking about. Go to the lectures and GSA study and tutoring and you'll be fine.

If you just attend his lectures and the lab you should do fine. He was very good at explaining concepts in class and the quizzes and tests were fair if you actually put in the work to study and review.

He was extremely helpful. The homework is harder than the tests but you have plenty of time to do the homework. He was reasonable with tests and quizzez and you know what to expect (similar to the questions in class). His after each lesson the next day he would spend 10-15 minutes reviews the previous lesson!

Dr. Girton was phenomenal. He made a hard subject more doable. Quizzes were harder than tests but that was to prepare you. He didn't use crazy numbers; he just wanted to see if you understood the material and how to solve the problems. Gave callbacks to calc 1/trig/alg if we didn't understand something. Great teacher, you can see his passion for math. He made a class that many students have trouble with easier to understand. When asked questions by students, he is very patient and will answer them instead of making you feel dumb like other teachers do. I recommend Dr. Girton 100%!

This guy yaps a TON during lectures and it's hard to ask questions during lectures. I learned more in lab, but the prof clearly explained everything and seemed to care about math. The weighing system is super wack, and the HW for the entire semester is worth the final and the tests/quizzes weren't the same as the drill sheet given.

Dr. Girton's lectures are incredibly efficient and fairly well organized. He is able to take the majority of concepts and simplify them for anyone to understand. He's great about answering student questions, and he has an overall great positive attitude and is excited to teach everyday. Exams aren't too bad either. Absolute goat (I love this man).

This man is the needle in a haystack of math teachers. Explains things as simply as he can, does lots of examples and always happy to clarify something if needed. I've never been intimidated to ask questions in his class and he is extremely helpful at his office hours. If he's an option for your math class, take him.

Fantastic overall, the only complaint is that he talks and writes very fast and leaves little time to think. He also probably won't see you for a while if you raise your hand. Besides that, he does a great job explaining tough concepts and good with reviewing for tests.

Dr. Girton is an AMAZING professor. I barely understood anything from calc 1 when I entered calc 2 for the first time, the first lecture was a 50 minute review of calc 1 and I felt like I was able to learn all of calc 1 in 5o mins. Guy's an amazing and passionate teacher who's easy to understand, I actually wish he taught more than just calc 2.

Girton's lectures are very fast, but he explains them so well that they are easy to grasp. He is a little quiet and doesn't mind distractions around the room, which can be difficult in a large class, especially when he speaks in a low voice. The drill sheet is posted a good amount of time before the test, and it's so close to the test.
