he's very outgoing
I had him in highschool, and let me tell you people! HE IS HORRRRRRRRRIIIIBLE,and VERY NASTY attitude, avoid this man stay away
Never had him for a class, but to say he is mean is crazy. He is the nicest man i have ever ment. The reason the other ratings are so low is because he makes you work and students are lazy. You will definatly learn something if you take his class.
He is known as a tough professor. Very enthusiastic in class but definitely does care about how his students do. If you want an easy grade, however, he won't hand you one. Overall, a great teacher but is NOT easy at all. Helped me in my advising too.
Worst class I had at Monmouth! Avoid at all costs!
Very helpful and out going teacher, but he is an extremely hard grader and expects a lot from his students. He is like most professors at established schools, but the kids here at Monmouth are ****ed and lazy so they think any kind of work is hard

Great guy..very helpful..bizarre sense of humor.
Really tough grader... not a good way to start freshman year. Hes a pretty nice/funny guy, but just really hard.
I had him for Western Civ freshman year, and I'm taking him again in Critical Discourse. Awesome teacher. He's not an easy grader, but he is fair, and I like being challenged at school. Anyone else who says he isn't good is either lazy or clinically insan
plays favorites
extremely hard but a great guy and teacher...what an actor!
He is a really good teacher, who unlike many professors actually challenges his students.
Very emusing guy...very livly..definatly keeps class interesting...however very difficult grader but fair
very good teacher. actually makes history interesting. difficult tests, but fair grader. highly recommended!
best teacher i ever had. kept me interested the whole time. hard tests, but fair grader.
hard grader...great guy at heart...always interesting
Napoleon reincarnated. He has a big heart though and is a walking encyclopedia. However his exams are Mission Impossible, beware.
seemed like a good guy, said we could contact him for anything in the future if we needed him, i did in january, and havent heard from him since (its may)
Right off the bat he tells you that the best grade you can get is a B+. He plays favorites as well. He squeezes as much work in as humanly possible. I do not reccommend him for any class. He teaches history and critical discourse.
the person who said he plays favorites doesnt know him at all and he never says anything about the best grade you will get is a B+..probably someone whining because he is just hard. He is a great teacher..is just hard.
Comes off mean and strict. But is very lively and always screaming and making jokes. You take like 4 pages of notes every class, and you have to memorize them word for word for the essay exams, but NEVER gives homework! all in all, good guy.
i had him in h.s. hes suh a sweet guy, and he knows everything about everything. his tests are impossible and he makes you write a lot, but all that info you retain forever. hes great to go to for advice and he is one of the best teachers in civ matterial wise.
good guy and would bend over backwards to help any of his students. Very hard, though. If you are looking for a fun, hard class, take him. If you want an easy grade, don't.
hes so awesome. he makes the subject so interesting...loves caffine. hes loud and animated! you never get bored!! Hes a tough grader, but hes fair about it. def. stay in his class, you won't regret it. hes my favorite teacher ever.
Loud... Man is he loud...I think the university always puts his classes in those old movie theater-like dungeons behind Pollack auditorium just so he is a mile away from other classrooms. He will light a fire under your ass and you will learn about history. Sir, yes, sir!
Had him 2x now and he is certainly the hardest professor I have ever had. He is also one of the top 3 best teachers though too. You WILL learn, you WILL laugh, you WILL cry when you get back your grades. He's a really nice guy and knows his stuff better than anyone else. Not recommended for some
didnt like him. hard grader. tests are hard and long. too crazy for me.
Had him in summer session I. He covers a lot of material and the class is intense..tests are not easy, but overall he is funny, alot of fun to listen to and a great teacher..loves to teach.
Probably the best teacher I ever had in my life. Had him for Western Civ I and then came back for II. VERY intense class but he makes it VERY interesting. A great professional, VERY helpful, and someone that really loves his job! HIGHLY reccomended!
I had Prof. Gorman in summer I. I would agree with the other raters. The class was intense and he was by far the best teacher I have ever had. He is funny and really knows his material. I like history now because of him. I recommend him highly. Best prof. I have had at Monmouth.
He was the most outstanding teacher I'd ever had in my entire scholastic career. Difficult? yes....but very rewarding. Although the class was challenging, he had a way of making you want to learn.

Have professor Gorman right now for Western Civ I. He is very hard, but I have never had a guy who is so funny. He is a great teacher and has been more help than my own freshman advisor.Highly recommended and great teacher. You won't be bored in his class.
This guy is an awesome teacher. He is funny, goes out of his way to help you and really cares. He is def the toughest prof I have ever had, but is great to have for class. If you want to learn and enjoy doing it, take him.Highly recommended.
The best professor you’ll ever have! He is a VERY hard grader but you will walk away with more than you could ask for. This is not a professor for those looking to get away easy. This is for people who actually want to learn. He is funny, very energetic, and incredibly well informed. Highly recommended!
Gorman was my first teacher at Monmouth after transferring...I worked my @$$ off for this class (6 week summer) but I can honestly say he made history as interesting as it can be and I actually learned a ton...very demanding and lots of reading/work required, but you'll actually get something out of the class...very nice and funny guy...recommended
I had prof. Gorman for western civ I/II. The guy is really funny. Learned a lot..he is a great teacher and is almost like a stand up comedian. funny, just really hard..but is awesome and knows his stuff. also really helpful. nice to see a prof love his job like he does.
He is one of the best professors ive ever had, he is an awesome guy funny, and works you hard. but he makes it all worth while. there is a lot of reading for his class, but he makes it fun while dishing out the work. he is extremely smart and it'll rub off on u.. defffff take him if u enjoy learning
Great Teacher!! The best teacher i had and will ever have. He is willing to help anyone with any problem, not just for his class. He is excellent with advising information and spend a few minutes every class going over things freshman should know.Class is not easy &his tests will make your hand fall off but its always on info he has gone over.
Really fun guy, worth taking but make sure to do your best. He is expecting it of you and will be able to judge if you are or not after the first week.
Admittedly obsessive, Prof. Gorman has high standards and expects the same from his students. He personally had a rough semester in fall '08 but put his students first. An amazing individual who deserves the respect he recieves.
He assigns so much reading and his tests are all essays and extremely intense. But if you do what he expects of you (which is alot), you'll do fine. I worked my ass off and got a b+. He is one of the nicest and most genuine people I've ever met. A little nuts, but still awesome!
LOUD! He could be summed up in one word. If you don't like bleeding from the ears, avoid this class. He spends more time bragging about himself than teaching... although the majority of the stories he tells seem completely made up. A lot of people like him, but I found him to be totally obnoxious and mean-spirited. Think twice before taking him...
Prof. Gorman is a very good teacher for critical disourse. Although he is hard, he makes a difficult experience (speaking in front of the class with research) more bearable because of his sense of humor. Knows his stuff just is hard.
High expectations, rough grader, and hates giving A's like the plague. I'm a 3.75 student and my slave-like labor earned me a B in his class. It's a gen ed class, that you won't ever use beyond the class, unless you are a comm major. Find the easiest prof and muscle through it.
This guy is a great teacher he just was the hardest grader I ever had at Monmouth.I had to work real hard but learned a lot and he made a very hard critical discourse class fun. great sense of humor. he is hard and not an easy grade whatsoever but is a great teacher and worth taking if you dont mind some work.
Prof. Gorman is the man especially if you are a freshman he makes sure you are comfortable and your first semster as smooth as possible. However he is the toughest grader ever and he assigns alot of reading. Pass his tests by knowing what he teaches every detail I got a B- and I was happy.
Seriously best teacher ever! He keeps you interested constantly, and there really never is a dull moment. A lot of note taking, one big essay that he gives you the entire semester to do, lots of book to read but no text book use really. Honestly he made me prepared for other courses and I would definitely take him again. Got a B- and i'm happy.
Prof. Gorman teaches and is the head of the history department at Freehold Boro Highschool as well as a prof. at MU and when I took his class, it was all about being responsible. The man never has a dull moment and he makes his lectures exciting to listen to. He is stern and demanding. Do what you're asked to and you can't go wrong. Great class!
Great class IF you're a history major. Itll force you to learn the material. If not a history major, dont bother. Not worth the stress for a gen ed course. Exams are hard (essay format). Tons of books to read for exams (and 1 for a paper). Very energetic, loves his job & students. But we're still trying to figure out if he actually gives out A's
Prof. Gorman is a great teacher. He just is a hard grader.I worked really hard but learned a lot. He made the class interesting where you didn't fall asleep. He has a great sense of humor. He is a great teacher and you have to put time and effort into his class but he'll go out of his way to help you out if you need it.
Had him in the spring. He is without a doubt the toughest professor I had this year but he definitely loves teaching and knows his stuff. Great class but you have to work. Always there to help if you need it and has good sense of humor.
Just had Professor Gorman in Summer Session B. He was a lot of fun, but a lot of work. The guy really knows his stuff and I learned a lot. He is a very enthusiastic guy with a great sense of humor..obviously loves teaching..just VERY hard and a tough grader. Highly Recommended..just know you will have to work.
Had Professor Gorman for Critical Discourse in Summer Session B. He was by far the most energetic and caring prof I have had in my three years at Monmouth. He is very tough but made a very difficult class bearable because of his sense of humor and excellent teaching. Highly recommended but has high expectations and is a tough grader-great guy.
Had him for HS 310--Eco History writing intensive. Most demanding course I had in four years..but he was an awesome teacher..knows his stuff and obviously cares about his students. Really TOUGH grader but is very fair overall. Good sense of humor and loves his students. Always there ifyou needed help
I had Professor Gorman in Fall of 2008 for HS 101. He was the best teacher Ihave had at Monmouth. Funny, outgoing, and challenging. I learned a ton and loved the class. Highly recommended if you want to have someone who cares and loves his subject. Just be prepared to work. He has high standards.
His genius works against you. Can refute any point with critical information. Funny, interesting, will explain everything. Don't take him if you, A. Don't want to learn, or B. Don't want to do work. Make sure that you know all your info inside and out, practice what you will say prior to class, and don't expect an A, and you'll be fine.
I have him right now for HS 310 Bus/Eco Develop of U.S. Is the hardest class I have had in four years!! The guy is a stickler. He is a great teacher, has good sense of humor and knows his stuff. Fun in class, just really hard. If you want a great class but not an easy grade, but where you will learn, take him. Highly recommended!!
This class is sooooo hard. He refuses to use a text book so there is nothing to reference but your notes. He makes you memorize all dates. Tests are incredibly difficult. The class is all together next to impossible. DROP THIS CLASS OR FAIL! dont say I didnt warn you!
I have him now for western civ I. He is definitely my hardest professor, however, makes class fun..is interesting and really knows his subject. Very willing to help and provide extra assistance and is very patient. Not a class for those who don't want to work. If you arent afraid of a class where you will work and want to learn def take him!
This man is out of his mind. I enjoy a challenge but his overall personality needs adjusting.
Ihave Prof. Gorman now for Critical Discourse and also had him for Western Civ I/II.He is an outstanding teacher , enthusiastic, funny, just very hard. Be ready to work if you take him because he is not for the lazy or feint of heart. Is really helpul..well worth it.
Have him now for my western civ 102. He is a nice guy but the tests are horrible! All essays and if you miss one little detail major points taken off! Not worth the stress for a gen ed ... if i was a history major this would maybe be fair ... but def. dont take if you want a good grade even if you study
This guy is a fantastic teacher but totally not worth the stress. He gives way too much work for a gen ed class and it is just not worth it. I'd recommend not taking him simply due to the work load he gives. But he is a great funny guy and a good teacher.
This guy is an outstanding professor. He is funny and really knows his stuff. Obviously loves to be in class and cares about how you do. He is,however, very hard. Be prepared to work. It is a great class and I hated history but he made me love it afterwards. Just hard but HIGHLY recommended.
Gorman remains to be the best teacher I've ever had in my life. His class was extremely difficult. We read a lot of books and Gorman spouted out endless bits of knowledge. Your pen moves fast all class in preperation for the dreaded "blue book" test. His passion for teaching and care for his students is evident. I will remember him forever.
Hard grader but very willing to work with you. I had some family things going on this semester and he let me do my presentations on whichever night I needed to. I really enjoyed talking to Professor Gorman too. He is very knowledgeable and willing to talk and advise about classes and things like resumes and grad schools.
He will ruin your GPA.
Anybody who would rate this guy low is just plain lazy..an outstanding teacher. He just has high standards and you have to work. Wants students to do well but wont give you a grade. Those who complain forget..we are in college:)He is a great teacher and its obvious.
First off, this man WILL make you work. Lots of texts, papers/projects, and studying(Tough grader!). This course was the source of all my stress. A's are extremely difficult to earn. However, that being said, he is an intelligent man that is passionate about his job/students, but for a gen. ed. the stress+work is not worth it.APPROACH WITH CAUTION
He was without a doubt the BEST teacher I have ever had. His western civ class was my toughest course, but I learned a lot and he is really an awesome teacher, cares alot, just is very tough. loved going to class.Just really hard! Very willing to help but you have to work!! RECOMMENDED HIGHLY!
This is a writing intensive class but it was not what I expected at all. I went in thinking it would be horrible and it turned into my favorite class. This guy is funny, intense, enthusiastic and obviously loves teaching. He is very hard but is also very fair. Is a great teacher and I learned alot. I would take him again.
Professor that really expects a lot from his students. Not unfair, but as a first-semester course it was difficult to manage. Would take again perhaps down the road. Very helpful and responsive to student inquiry both in class and outside. Keep questions concise, though - he tends to ramble.
Had him fall, 2010 for Eco hist. He was extremely hard but it was an awesome class. Has a great sense of humor and is very dedicated. Guy obviously cares about his students. Just very challenging and a hard grader. Great teacher and knows his stuff. Loved the guy! Just tough. Take him if you want a challenge and want to really learn!
I have him now for Western Civ II. He is a VERY hard professor but is also one who will help and wants to see you do well. Enjoy his class. He is a very good teacher with good sense of humor. Just hard. Will go out of his way to help if you take him up on it.
absolutly amazing! take him!! you will have to work hard to earn a good grade, but by the end of the semester it will feel so rewarding that you took a class where you truly learned so so much about history, as well as learned solid work and study habits that will help you in all your other classes. he has lots of energy and cares about the student
Great teacher...Very passionate...Cares about the students...Extremely helpful...Keeps the class very entertaining... a true professional
An all around great professor. Don't expect to slack off. It's a writing intensive course and he's very critical when it comes to proper grammar but you'll adjust. Most of all, don't ask stupid questions; he'll give you examples.
he is a very nice guy and smart professor. he expects you to read a few books and then write papers about them,. he does not require a text book. all tests are just essays because it is a WT class. he spends every class going year by year from the 1800s to present day on what happened in history, which makes me wonder why this is a business class
Guy is a great professor. Knows his stuff. I have thorougly enjoyed the course and it is interesting to see how much economic events have shaped U.S. History. The connections he has made in class between how economic events have influenced our history have been interesting. great teacher, helped me with my schedule and isn't even my advisor.
As a business major, did not really ever like history before. The guy is an awesome professor, funny, energetic, knows his stuff. Yeah he is tough and challenging but he also is probably the fairest instructor I have ever had. Also it is so obvious how much he really cares about his students and loves teaching. Definitely worth taking.
makes you buy all these books and its a hard class... for a class that has nothing to do with my major. avoid.
This guy is tough but he is a great teacher and very into teaching the class. Knows his stuff and is very helpful. Obvious his class is challenging but is one of the best professors I have had at Monmouth. Tough but worth it.
I have him now . He is funny as hell. Not easy and is challenging but at the same time makes you want to be in class. Really a smart guy and can even go to him with advising questions. He has been more helpful to me then my own advisor. Never thought I would like a history class at 8:30 till now. Great teacher.
The guy is a great professor. Yeah it is a bit of work but we are in college. I have never seen a professor who loves teaching like he does. Genuinely loves teaching and it shows. He also is one of the few I have seen who actually is in office hours always for students. Also is funny. Definitely makes you think.
Yes he is a tough professor, but by far is the BEST professor I have ever had at Monmouth. He is an outstanding teacher and loves what he does. More importantly, he really cares about this students and wants them to be successful. He is without a doubt the best and most helpful prof. I have had here. Also has a great sense of humor! Take him!
this guy is an outstanding professor. Yeah, he is hard, but he offers all kinds of help. cares how you do, but demands excellent work. Is fun in class, funny, just hard. I loved the class and thought I would hate it. Take him. he is one of the few I have had at Monmouth who cares.
If you can, stay away. Professor Gorman is a nice guy and loves teaching, but the class is way too challenging. Your grade is only based off papers and participation. With that said, he is a hard grader and challenging. His class is way too hard for a class that must be taken by business students, not history students.
This guy was a fantastic professor. He was tough, yes, but I learned a tremendous amount. He also is the type of professor who will do anything to help if you take advantage of it. For anyone who complains he is hard, yeah he is, but he is fair. I loved the class when it was one I thought going into the semester I would hate. Def take him!
I have him now for HS 310. He is by far the best professor I have ever had here. Never saw someone who knows his subject so well. Obvious he loves what he does. Also, is more helpful to me than my own advisor. Sat down and went over my audit with me and didn't even have to. Is tough but really cares about this students.
Harsh grader. Calls on random people the whole class. Keeps you late most classes. In class essay is guaranteed D or F. The lectures are interesting but not worth the low grade you'll receive. Avoid at all cost. However, if you do find yourself in his class, have fun ruining your GPA!
He's very knowledgeable of the field and LOVES his job. He really does care about his students, he's a great professor to take and has an amazing personality, a bit crazy but a good crazy. He will compromise with you if you show him your trying your best. The course is hard, requires much studying and understanding. Very thorough teacher but great.
Professor Gorman is one of the most amazing professors Monmouth to offer. He knows his stuff and his class is hard. It requires a lot of studying and hard work but you learn a lot. He is 100% fair in what he expects and he actually reads your papers which I find to be very important. I liked him so much he is now my advisor. Wonderful guy!
AWESOME!! literally the best professor i have ever had. He not only tells you the guidelines for his class, he simply follows the universities guidelines, he was nothing but nice and helpful! He does not give many assignments but the ones he does, count. Hard material and a lot of material but so worth taking his class! I would take him again!
Gorman is an awesome professor. His class is NOT easy - you have to be ready to read some books and write good papers. But his feedback is incredible and so long as you do the work, he will set you up to pass with flying colors. Lectures are great, he always gets students involved and loves to make things interesting. He also provides great help.
without a doubt the best prof I ever had. He's one of those rare profs that you can see that he REALLY cares about his students and their progress. Hardest class ever, read a lot, but you learn so much and he's hilarious! Amazing feedback on the papers, only negative thing... his handwriting is awful... and he admits it.
For CJ 101, he told us (after everyone failed the first exam) that we had to study the textbook closely to pass. His lectures are long, but he does offer extra credit here and there and even drops your lowest test grade at the end of the semester. Just don't try to be absent too often he isn't very lenient with that. oh and DON'T GO TO THE BATHROOM
Have him now just completing summer session with him. Never have had a professor in my 4 years like him. He is an amazing teacher. Really into what he does and loves teaching and it shows. Also is a very caring guy and although demanding, he really cares how you do. Wish I had experienced more like him . Definitely take him. Great experience.
Gorman is a straight version of Cam from Modern Family, (might not be straight actually) Gorman loves teaching and cares about his students but eh not for me. too theatrical in class he makes a fool of himself, he also thinks the cracked the code of educational philosophy. tests are also unnecessarily hard. take him or not no big deal
IF YOU CAN GET OUT OF HIS CLASS!
Had him and just finished Western Civ I with him. Anybody who complains about him is crazy. Only professor I had this semester who actually helped me. Great teacher. Yeah he is hard but he is very fair and you have to work. Knows his subject and obviously likes teaching and students. He is interesting. Recommend him. Really good not easy.
Best Teacher I Ever Had.
He is a very tough professor, but he is good a guy and teaches very well.
Prof Gorman is an exceptional professor who has very high expectations of his students. While the work is tough, and forces you to put in an effort, Gorman provides insight through his lectures (that seem to fly by). don't be scared of him, he is just direct in what he wants. Focus and do the work and you will get the grade you want.
Such a great professor. He is a tough grader and makes you do a lot of work but what else would you expect from a writing intensive class. He is very straight forward with his exams and does make it a point to know all his students and each of their majors. Overall very entertaining and knows how to keep the room awake for the full time.
great actor, awful teacher
I had him this past spring. He was by far the BEST professor I have had at Monmouth. He is challenging ,yes but really is obvious how much he cares about his students. Really knows his history and it shows. Great in class and just be prepared to participate. Highly recommend. I loved the class and never thought i would going into it.
Had Prof. Gorman for HS 310 last spring. Really the best professor I have had at Monmouth. Loves teaching and you can really tell. Helpful outside class. The guy really knows his history and economics inside out. I loved the class and it also helped me become better at writing. Really cares about his students. Highly Recommend!
I had Professor Gorman for HS 310 a year ago. He was a great professor. Takes a genuine interest in his students. In class, he really knows his stuff and is passionate and obviously enjoys teaching. Truly cares about his students. Always available to help after you have him. A great prof. Def recommend him.
Such a wonderful man. He might seem a little hyper 1st time but he grows on you immediately and can amaze you with his knowledge. He is not a partisan political professor and gives you an honest historical take on any side. He also cares a lot about his students and, although a difficult grader, gives helpful feedback and allows for extra credit.
This is the high standard of a professor. If you are a slacker and take up space, this is not your guy. If you want to take the best class ever at Monmouth sign up for this one. Love em
He's a great man outside of the classroom; As for in class, he took something that I was passionate about and made it loathsome to go to his class. Does not do a good job at relating Economic Theory to history, and goes way to fast through the years, often omitting key historical events. Always keeps you late and very hard to please on papers.
Tough class and professor. The final was impossible as you are flooded with so much information throughout the semester and most of what was taught was useless in preparing for it. Papers are also very difficult and Gorman was harsher on my papers than any other prof. I've ever had, including English Professors. Class was way harder than necessary.
Anybody who would rate him poorly is just sounding like sour grapes. The guy is a great teacher. I had to work hard but got an A-. He is demanding in what he expects but he is very fair. He gives extra credit option as well. Enjoyed the class immensely. Those who would complain are probably just afraid of a bit of work. I loved him.
Being that this is a WT class grades are based on your writing. With that being said Gorman can be harsh grader. This school makes "worthless" classes WT on purpose (ethics and HS310) to make it challenging and Gorman makes sure that is the case. Take an adjunct or someone else for this class. For the love of your GPA you'll thank me.
Had Prof. Gorman for HS 310 this summer. Was my first summer class ever and I was nervous going into it. It was one of the best classes I have ever had at Monmouth. He was a great teacher and really cared about how we did and was always there to help. Funny and really knows his subject. Awesome guy. I highly recommend him.
Gorman's class is more on the difficult side if you're not a strong writer. He reads each essay 3 times and leaves notes ripping your work to shreds. but he is really passionate about history and he forces you to stay awake in class. He's a little bit of a nut but he's a good professor. You can't skip any classes with him.
I had Professor Gorman last summer for HS 310. DID NOT want to take the class but it was a requirement. Went into it dreading it. It was the BEST course I have had at Monmouth. He is challenging but he really made me a better writer, and is one of the most caring profs I have ever met. Never seen someone who loves teaching so Much. DEF TAKE!
The first week I debated dropping the class but decided to stick with it and im happy I did. Homework readings are essential if you want to pass the homework quiz's. He is a really good guy just show up to class, participate, and show interest. He will help you out
I had the honor of taking Professor Gorman this past semester. Great teacher. I always enjoyed going to class due to his enthusiasm for teaching. He is a tough grader but you'll enjoy the class. Make sure to read the textbook because you'll have a reading quiz almost every week. Also read the books thoroughly for papers.
Just had him for HS 310. It was a required class but I did really enjoy it. Helpful guy--good teacher. Will make you work but it was worth it. Willing to go the extra mile for students if you need help.
As a person Professor Gorman is great. Always willing to talk and help students with anything they need in their life, not just school related. Class is interesting but he is an EXTREMELY tough grader. Be prepared for the reading quizzes, they're easy if you read and a good way to boost up your grade (you're gonna want it trust me!)
Hes a really smart professor and is really passionate about his job and what he teaches. You have to read the book in order to pass quizzes, which are once a week. The papers are honestly really difficult and he's a tough grader as it is. The final is tough because it's 3 essay questions based on material from the whole course and he doesnt review.
Truly a great guy. Super tough grader. 2, 5 page papers for the class. Reads each paper 3 times before giving the final grade. A bit nutty but definitely would recommend. Reading quizzes boost your grade. Final is cumulative essays
He's a great person, very helpful but one of the toughest graders when it comes to reading your work. Classes are interesting and it's worth paying attention. Take as many notes as possible because the final is cumulative. Read the books he assigns because reading quizzes are common. Also keep track of your syllabus in his class as well.
Gorman is a true asset to this University. A very tough grader, but an overall great person who cares for his students and wants them to learn more than anything. Would take him again 10 times over and his class is one of the most enjoyable classes I've ever taken, even considering all the work that went into this course.
Gorman is hilarious and really passionate about what he teaches. He is the toughest grader I've ever had and you'll have to write two papers on two different books.
I'm super confused by this one. He was one of my favorite Professors hands down. Loved the class, loved the lectures, and even stayed after several times to chat. I guess I missed too many classes and I ended up with a D+. He's still one of my favorite professors but DO NOT miss class.
Worst professor I've had of my 3 years at Monmouth. I learned more in my APUS class in high school. He lectured exclusively on the history of the US rather than economic theories and terms which he requires you know for essays. The textbook he requires is one he wrote and is not even useful.
Professor Gorman is a great guy and loves his job. Coming out of this class you learn a lot, but, you wont come out with a good grade. I enjoyed going to his class but the amount of work you have to put into this class is insane. No matter how hard you work you wont ever get an A (never heard of). Toughest grader at MU and be prepared 4 GPA to drop
I had Prof. Gorman last fall. It was one of the harder courses I have had at M.U. but well worth it. The guy knows his stuff and was fun in class. Yes, no doubt about it he is hard and challenging but I found him to be fair. he wants you to do well but you have to really work for it. He won't hand you anything. I recommend him highly.
I spent an HOUR AND A HALF on BOTH of his reading quizzes and he gave me C's on both of them. Makes us read a couple of pages and expects us to write a full dissertation on it. Truly pathetic, and he is very pretentious and annoying on zoom calls. Definitely not looking forward to the rest of his class. Do not take!
Overall terrible professor, nothing he teaches makes its way into papers/quizzes. This was by far the most difficult class I've ever taken, I wrote PAGES for the weekly essay quiz and the best I could ever manage was a B... twice. Save your GPA, take and adjunct. You don't necessarily need the book as it's mostly short stories.
Had him last spring. Very hard and not an easy class by any means. Learned a lot and he is a really good teacher. He was definitely also a professor who was one you could count on. I didnt love the workwho dies but enjoyed the class a lot. He is hard but I would recommend him highly.
Had Gorman in the summer. It was a fast course in three weeks. Good teacher and never had a professor who was so accessible and offered help. He wants his students to be successful but is hard. Enjoyed the class and didnt think I would going into it. He works you and is tough but my writing is better because of it. Recommend him.
Prof. Gorman is an amazing professor. He is always there to help his students and he is beyond knowledgeable about what he teaches. I LOVED this class. It was a lot of hard work and he is a tough grader but gives extra credit. I took him in Spring 2020 and he made the adjustment easy. It was a hard class, but I would take him again.
He was clearly passionate about history. However, he only really touched on Economic theory in the first week, then never related back to them as class went on. And, for a tough grader, he rarely proofread his own stuff, and a lot of his prompts were unclear and confusing, making homework and papers really stressful, especially the final.
Had him for HS 310 this semester. Yes, he is hard as hell. No doubt. But, he is a caring and outgoing professor. Really does want to help and if you ask for help you will get it. I came in expecting to work and I had to. If you apply yourself and work you won't have trouble. Take a good set of notes. Good teacher just hard. Recommend.
I have never disliked a professor like this before! He is too harsh a grader for somebody who can barely type a proper sentence or proofread one himself. Extremely fake and pretentious. This was just a repeat of APUSH. Barely learned any economics. Prepare to write multiple dissertations a week and for your GPA to drop. Horrible experience. AVOID!
Great teacher. Had him for HS 310. Anybody who complains is obviously one who didn't want to work. It is college. yeah it was hard work but he was fair. Very available outside class if you take him up on it. Willing to help. Knows his stuff. Learned a lot. Class helped me with Macro too. Recommend him.
Had him in the summer and it was on line. Good guy. A lot of work but really knew his stuff. He will work you so keep up with your assignments. Available for extra help if you need it. Tough grader but did give some extra credit. Was fair even though it was a lot of work. I would take him again.
Very hard class with a very hard professor, lectures were really interesting but other than that this class was not worth it. There were a lot of papers and it was really stressful at times because assignments were unclear due to his many typos and mistakes. Dont be fooled! Gorman needs to stop posting positive reviews of himself on here!
Prof Gorman is super sweet and really wants to see everyone do well. He's funny, and while the info is bland, he makes it interesting. 2 papers and weekly quizzes/discussion posts, but not that bad. He is a tough grader and wants to see effort, but as long as you show him you care than he will help you out!
Gave me a 0 on an assignment after he explained what to do in office hours
Had him last semester. Went into the course a bit afraid because I heard he was hard but loved the class. He also helped me with advising when I could not get a hold of my own advisor. Would definitely take him again. He is hard but he really cares about his students.
I really liked Prof Gorman. He does good explanations of what he is teaching and will dumb it down if necessary. There are 2 major papers and he is really hard on grading the papers. Not so much on grammar but more so on content. Same with his weekly quiz, which are like mini-essays.
Worst professor I have taken at Monmouth. I would literally get anxiety knowing I had to go to his class every Monday and Wednesday.
Just finished HS 310 with him. He was a good teacher. It was not nearly as hard as I thought it would be. I liked the course and he certainly knows his subject. Overall a nice guy and I got a lot out of the course.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR I just took him during the summer as a four week totally asynchronous class. He is BY FAR the worst professor I have ever had at Monmouth, and I have had BAD professors in the past. He posted hour long lecture videos every day, would rock back and forth in his chair and has the most monotone voice I have ever heard, cont.
I had him for HS 310 this past spring. I went into the course dreading it because I thought it would be hard. Although I had to work, it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be if you keep up with it. I learned a lot and the lectures were interesting.
I had him for HS 310 asynchronous in Summer A. It was a lot of work because it was the four week session. He posted lectures on line. Course was well organized and I enjoyed the lectures. Although it was a lot of work, I learned a lot and enjoyed it. He was very responsive to student email which I appreciated.
I had him in the spring. Great teacher and knew his subject. Helped me a lot with advising as well. I learned a lot and my writing is better from the course. Very interesting.
Worst professor at Monmouth. I received my first C in college ever, he's a brutal grader. I enjoyed the content of his lectures but he calls on people randomly, the papers & format are very difficult. He's hard to work with and very intimidating. Also he yells randomly during lectures...
I had HS 310 with him several years ago. He also was my advisor. Very good teacher and me a lot with my schedule. The class was not easy but I learned a lot and it was really interesting. Overall, very nice guy and was a lot of help outside of class if you asked for extra help was always willing to provide it.
Took HS 310 with him in Spring last year. It was not a cakewalk but he really knows the material. Also is more than willing to help if you take him up on it. Overall, really good teacher and the course was interesting.
tough class
I just finished class with him. He is a great teacher. The course is not easy but I found him to be fair and I really liked the class. It was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. He really knows the subject.
Excellent teacher. Had him at 8:30 and I hate 8:30 classes. He makes you want to be in class. The class is truly not easy and you have to work for your grade but I thought overall he was fair. Also, he helped me with my schedule for the next semester when my own advisor didn't. I enjoyed the class.
Prof. Gorman is my favorite professor I ever had at MU. He is so caring, his lectures are very interesting and it is easy to get involved with the lectures since he relates things to the real world. He teaches things in order and he doesn't read off slides- it all comes from his head. He is a great professor- everyone should take him/HS310!
You better write down every single thing in his lectures or you WILL bomb the final. Really nice and you can tell he really cares about the subject, but he's such a critical grader. Good luck in this class
Had him at 8:30. Great teacher. I was afraid going into the course because he was hard but the workload is ok. Just need to keep up with it. This turned out to be one of my favorite courses. He also helped me with my audit too. Nice guy. Kept my attention at 8:30 which is hard to do:)
I had him last fall for HS 310. Was worried going in as I heard it was a tough class. While I had to work, I found myself really enjoying the class. He has standards but is more than willing to help if you want extra help. He really is one of the best profs that I have had at Monmouth. Really helped me with my writing.
I had him this semester for Western Civ. Not an easy class by any means but although he is hard he is fair. He continuously offered extra help and was there is we wanted help. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot. He is a very good teacher and wants students to do well but you do have to study and keep up with the material.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! you will regret it. hardest class i have ever taken, my anatomy class was easier than this.. he expects you to rewrite your notes EVERYDAY in order to memorize the information. exams are writing essays and he doesn't tell you what to focus on so you have to review everything that was taught. do not take this teacher.
BAD! he pretends to care about his students succeeding.he is the toughest grader and makes things impossible. for the final he expects you to remember info from the beginning of the semester, he is so lecture heavy this is impossible. have to keep up with everything he says and he talks so fast. horrible feedback. stressed isn't even the word!!!!
AWFUL! he will have you stressing so bad and he thinks that this is the only class you are taking. can't read his handwriting, says everything off the top of his head. writes one word on the board and you have to write everything he says. paper is on a book written in chicago format and nobody in writing services knew how to do that. so old school
Took him for Western Civ and just finished. Yeah it was a hard class but if you keep up with it it was not that bad. He helped me with my schedule for SP 24 when my first year advisor could not see me. Excellent teacher and was my favorite class of the semester even though it was more work than my other classes. I loved the class-but had to work
Professor Gorman is incredibly intelligent when it comes to all things economics and history. He is a great lecturer but doesn't allow computers or phones in class. No direct feedback on papers, very old school, and has a great sense of humor. There are a lot of papers with high expectations so be prepared to put in the time. Take him for 310.
I had him in the fall for Western Civilization II. I was a bit scared at first as the class was definitely challenging. He is a great teacher though and was always willing to help. I really enjoyed the class and learned a lot. He was the only professor I had to offer extra help when we needed. I wish I had taken him up on it even sooner.
Gorman is a nice guy in general, but tough professor. There are reading assignments almost every week that are almost impossible to get over a 70% on. His tests are EXTREMELY hard, you must know everything to do just ok on them. Everything is lecture based. He writes a few words on a chalk board but nothing else. Attendance mandatory. Good luck.
I had Prof. Gorman for HS 102. It was a great class. Yeah, it was not a breeze and he has expectations but I worked hard and got an A. He knows his material and makes it interesting. Be prepared to work but if you work the way you should you will do well. Enjoyed the class! He is one of the nicest professors I have had at M.U. and cares a lot
Professor Gorman was very caring and wanted the best for every student in the class. Ive never learned more things from a class. With that being said, he is very old school and you cannot use any form of technology in the class. Every lecture you have to write 3 pages of notes and study like crazy for tests only to get a B. He is a heavy grader.
Only take him if you like History.
I have him now for Western Civ II. He is the best professor I have had at MU thus far. Really knows his content and very enthusiastic. Cares and offers extra help.
Has very high, but very clear, expectations of his students. Extremely passionate about the subject and very funny in his lectures. He will hold you to a high standard but is extremely affirming of hard work and progress. Definitely one of the hardest, but one of the best, professors I've taken at Monmouth.
He lectured in chronological order the whole time everytime, there were quizzes based on textbook readings, he made crude historical jokes in class that made me uncomfortable. His tests were impossible to study for because they had no guidance or review, you just had to hope you knew the specific event he would ask you about.
Just had him for western civ II. He was by far the best professor I have had thus far. Although the course was hard, I enjoyed it immensely and it is the first time I have really understood and done well in history. He also helped me with my schedule for next year when I could not get a hold of my first year advisor. Great class. Take him.
I was very nervous going into this class based on what I have read online, but honestly his class was not bad at all! Gorman is so friendly and has great lectures making class very interesting. He was very funny and engaged with the entire class. Tests were difficult but if you study and participate he won't let you fail, dont run from his class!
Mr. Gorman is a fantastic professor. Although he is a difficult grader, he is very fair. He makes the class interesting and is really a down-to-earth guy. He is funny and engages his students. I would highly recommend taking his class!!
I had him in Summer A for HS 310. It was a good bit of work but I really enjoyed the class. He is funny and enthusiastic and is a professor who really cares about his students. Also is really knowledgeable and really knows the course content. Take him. Highly recommended!
I had Prof Gorman for HS 102 in SP 24. Going into the class I was concerned as history is a hard subject for me. He was a great teacher and was always reminding us if we needed help to see him. I enjoyed the class and it was my favorite course of the semester. He was hard but was really fair. Would definitely take him again. Recommend him.
I just finished HS 102 with Prof. Gorman in Summer Session E. As a summer class, there was a lot to do but I expected that. I learned a lot and enjoyed the class so much more than I thought I would. He was a great teacher and although not an easy grader he was really fair. Prof. Gorman loves what he does and it shows. I highly recommend him.
I had Gorman for HS 102 in SP 24. I am a history/education major and I loved the class. He is a great teacher and always willing to help and offer assistance. Responded to email quickly too. I liked it so much am taking him for HS 201 and 202 this coming year. highly recommend him. Great guy and knows his stuff. My best prof last year.
Professor Gorman's HS102 class is challenging but rewarding. He's enthusiastic and really knows his stuff. While the workload is heavy, using Unstuckstudy and the free textbook helped me stay on top of it and earn a solid B+.
If you're a history major, this class is great. If not, DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. There is no reason as a Bio major that this class should be taking up the majority of my time. Weekly essays about long articles that have little to do with the questions he writes. Also gave me a 0 on the 1st one just bc it was the wrong format and din't let me resubmit.
I have him now for HS 110 Psych and Biographical Profiles of Historical Figures course. I hate history normally but this course has been really interesting. He is a great teacher. It is a good bit of work but the work is doable. You just have to keep up with it. He has been really helpful outside of class too. I highly recommend. Great class.
Had Prof. Gorman for HS 310 in Summer A On-line synchronous. It was a truly enjoyable class. It was in Summer A so had to keep up with it as pace was fast. I learned a lot and he was one of my favorite professors I have had at M.U. He was not easy by any means but he was very fair. He really knows the subject. Highly recommend him.
I am just finishing HS 310 with Professor Gorman. Was worried coming into the class with how tough I heard he was. It was not easy but it was doable and he was fair. Enjoyed the class and it became my favorite class of the semester. He is enthusiastic and kept me engaged. Also was always there to help. Responded to email quick. Take him!
Just had HS 110 Psych/Biographical profiles Historical Figures with him. It was an absolutely great course. I loved the content and although he has high expectations, he was really fair. Great teacher and really knows his material. Definitely cares and is good at what he does. One of my favorite professors I had this semester. Take him.
I took him for HS110, and he was one of my favorite professors. He is very passionate about history and knows a lot. There are weekly readings, one-page assignments, and a 7-page paper. Attendance and participation matter, and he is very lecture-heavy yet enjoyable. I would take his class.
Very Caring Professor and learned the most in his class out of any at my time at Monmouth. But he does grade hard and it is a lot of work
Gorman is a very nice guy and means well, but his lectures are very detailed and no slides. He cold calls on people after the first two classes and does give out a lot of work. Exams are very hard unless you take phenomenal notes, but he does really love what he's doing and you can tell. If you have a friend in class, I suggest studying with them.
I had Professor Gorman last summer for HS 102 Western Civ II. It was an on-line synchronous course which had me nervous as we as its being a summer course as I knew a lot of content would be covered in a very short time. It turned out to be a great class. He is a great teacher. It was a good bit of work but he was so fair. Highly recommend him
Professor Gorman is a nice man, no doubt. He gives great lectures that take you through history and is very animated, which makes the class better. I feel that his standards are quite hard to please - he is one tough grader, and nothing ever seems to impress him, which I didn't appreciate as I know I am a good student.
Had him for HS 310 last fall 2024 and really enjoyed the class. I learned a lot and he was helpful. Sure knows his subject. Also was willing to provide help if you needed it. Course was challenging but he was very fair. You have to work but it turned out to be one of my favorite classes I have had at Monmouth. Highly recommend him.
Professor Gorman is very sweet and truly cares about the well-being and academic standing of his students. He assigns weekly reading quizzes and one essay, so the workload is manageable. I had him for US History 1 & 2 and enjoyed every second of it. His lectures are interesting. Just beware, his midterms and finals can be quite challenging.
Gorman is a very nice teacher who really cares about his students, the work really isn't that bad, but he is a harsh grader, his lectures can sometimes be very boring, and he only calls on students, very good for a first year/ gen ed history teacher.
I had Professor Gorman for Western Civ II this semester. He is a really great teacher and truly cares about his students. Also really knows the material and keeps it interesting. Enjoyed the course a lot and he also helped me do my schedule when my own advisor couldn't see me. Highly recommend him. This is my favorite class at MU thus far.
