The first day of class, the guy came into class looking like a student. It fooled everyone. He grades alot of the homework...so just do it. Test are a bit hard. He canceled class to go to dragon*con (big sci-fi convention).
if you are not good in math don't take this professor. he knows his stuff but i couldn't really get the hang of it so i barely passed.
He's laid back, and I felt the amount of work was just right. Easy going and helpful. That's the minimum you look for in a teacher. I took his class after a long time away from mathematics and did not have much problem to get an A.
He left just the right amount of homework. He went over the content as many times as needed. He was always available for questions. Respectful with the students. I took the course after 10 years away from math and didn't have any problems to understand the material and to pass. I posted this by mistake for Bill Griffiths. Don't know that guy.
He is very interesting and makes the math as fun as it can be. He has extremely hard test, so be know all HW problems. He does grade hw which is not too bad just do it and you will get the feel of when he will collect it.
Good teacher, alot of homework but it helps you on the test. He really does care if you pass, even though he acts like he doesn't. Over all good person and teacher. Just show up and try and so will he.
Great professor. I learned a great deal. He will make you work hard for a decent grade. If you do the homework, you will pass. He likes making the exams and homework challenging.
Amazing ability to make the class fun. Be warned that the class can be hard, but that is more of a matter of the subject material than the teacher. He is willing to work with the students on tests and homework and the speed of the class, very knowledgeable. If you show up and you really try to learn, he will help you and you will learn a lot.
This professor is nice, but he is lazy and doesn't like to do any additional work. He doesn't explain the material clearly or check email. The tests are not like the homework.
Dr. Griffith is one of the hardest professors in the Math department. Don't let this scare you though. Do the homework on time and study (a lot!). The problems are very similar to the homework (contrary to what someone else posted). The book isn't that great. So be prepared to use supplemental resources.
excellent professor
Great teacher. Class is very time consuming, homework every night. It is a math class though and thats how you learn. You must do the homework and study to pass the class. He is very willing to help you after class. He wants you to do well but you must put forth the effort. If you want to learn take griffiths.
If you are a natural at math and like corny math jokes than this is your professor! He clearly loves math and has a great sense of humor. This makes the class enjoyable but if you are like me and not too good at math and need a slower teacher than he would NOT be a good match. HW every night and perks are he grades leniently on tests and quizzes !
Very good teacher. I loved having him for calc 1 but he will pick favorites and treat other students on a lower level. I do recommend him though
best math teacher in the school. But you WILL work for your grade. He CLEARLY explains everything and is very willing to help. But his tests are HARD. Cool guy too. If you really want to learn, take him. If you want only an easy A, avoid. I recommend him. (easy final tho)
this guy is definitely one of the best teachers on campus. his test were a pretty tough if you never studied. overall i strongly recommend him for anybody. he is willing to help you during his office hours all the time.
Maybe it's just because I'm a math nerd, but I thoroughly enjoyed this class. Make no mistake, he is not an easy professor, and the exams will be tough, but he makes himself readily available for extra help. I always looked forward to the lectures. Make sure you do the homework and seek help if you need it. Study groups help. A lot.
This is a tough class, but this teacher makes it fun and interesting. One of the best teachers on campus and I would love to take more classes from him. Always very helpful inside and outside of class. Office visits make everything clear. You have to study and do homework though or you will not make a good grade!
Discrete Math is no joke, but Dr. Griffiths made it enjoyable. The material covered is well explained and his expectations are clear throughout the course. Be prepared to work hard on the homework and you need to show up to class although not required. Don't rely too much on his review tests as I found them way easier than the real tests. homework!
You need to take a math class? If Griffiths is teaching it sign up for his section. You'll gain a solid grasp on the concepts he teaches you. Show up to class, do the home work, and he'll make it fun for you.
Great math professor. You will have to work hard for an A in his courses, but you will leave educated. He really knows his stuff, but can also teach it. He also has a great personality and makes classtime enjoyable. Highly Recommended!!!
To all prospective honors calc students - IF YOU DIDN'T TAKE AT LEAST CALC A/B IN HIGH SCHOOL, AVOID HONORS CALC I LIKE THE PLAGUE. He's a great teacher and a nice guy, but in honors calc, he teaches to students who know how to do calculus. If you don't you'll drown. And if you want to take him for honors calc II and didn't do honors calc I, DON"T
he is a really cool guy and a good teacher. If you aren't lazy and do your work this is a really good course and he teaches it very well. He is also more than willing to help and the tests are relatively simple.
Knows the material extremely well, and has a talent for explaining everything. His tests are quite hard, but he makes sure the grade really reflects your understanding of the material.
The review saying that taking Honors Calc II w/o taking AP Calculus or Honors Calc I is completely false. I moved up to Honors Calc 2 from regular Calc I (didn't take AP either), and I was just fine. I worked very hard and earned an A, and this is in spite of missing a week or two due to a medical emergency (broken arm). Recommended? Yes.
Super hard, but teaches very well. 4 tests, a final, and quizes.
Dr. Griffiths does a decent job of making boring subject matter (math) interesting. He asks that you do 1 hour of math a day. If you do this then you will do well. He is great at helping you outside of class if you are struggling. He is an all around good guy in additional to being a quality instructor.
You will have to put in a lot of hard work to pass this class. If you need help ASK. He's willing to work with you if you're willing to do the work.
The BEST math professor at SPSU. Always willing to help, as long as you are willing to help yourself. If you work hard, and show effort, you will understand the curriculum and pass the class. Class lectures are fun, and easy to follow/understand. Highly recommended for calculus.
Overall he is a teacher you will get along with fairly well. Other than that he is an ok teacher. He knows what he is doing so that is a plus but he LOVES to cut corners, so if you want to understand everything front to back you might have a tough time. But he does care about you passing, so speak up and he will try his hardest so you can pass.
Great professor, always enthusiastic & excited about math! Makes class fun & interesting.
Awesome dude inside and outside class. Goes over material really nice, doing homework and attending class is required 100% to do well. His tests always include 1 nasty question so prepare for all possible types of questions. Overall, if you're aiming for a B you'll have a a great semester, but stretching for an A is a bit rough
I think everyone grades him so highly because he is a cool professor and a fun person but his tests are ridiculous. Five questions, all word problems, no calculator. Very hard tests.
Good, but could be great. Counter-productive class model. Wants you to do Hawkes, but the tests are book questions. He will go only as far as the initial explanation, but will never take time to make sure you understand it. So, if you don't understand it, oh well, plus only 4-times out of the week he can talk. To those not keen in Math, avoid.
Dr.Griffiths is really cool,Pre Cal is very demanding but he tries to take away the stress by making the class fun. Hawkes homework is free 10point, its not easy but its doable. His exams are demanding but the final is easy. The only way to do well in the class is PRACTICE, i had an A in the class but it took lots of work
He is hard but if you do the homework you will be well prepared for the test. He loves shorcuts and skipping steps but if you ask he is more than willing to explain and help you if you are putting forth effort to understand the material. Math isn't easy but he is a good teacher.
While Professor Griffiths is a cool guy he is very fast pace and takes short cuts when giving notes. He covered a whole chapter more than the other Linear Algebra class. He collects homework and his test are largely proof based so you do not learn how to do Linear Algebra but how they invented it. If you have are an engineer take someone else.
Griffiths is the best professor I have had in college thus far. First off, he's simply a great teacher. He knows the material very well (at least for my linear algebra class) and is usually great at explaining the material. He's also a really funny guy and made coming to class actually fun. I'd recommend him, espcecially for linear algebra
Not the Best for Linear Algebra. Very confusing, and he tries to trip you up on his tests. He also gives little to any partial credit on exams. No Calculators. He is an alright professor, and has a good personality. But he just off topic very frequently.
Griffiths didn't seem like he was a tough teacher at first glance, but that first test kicked our butts. He really cares about your success in the class, though, as he allowed us to earn back a lot of the credit. I found I learned a lot from him as the semester went on and had a fun time doing so. You WILL need to teach yourself a lot of the class.
Just... Take... Him... He is awesome! He is hilarious and teaches the material very clearly. Although he gives hard tests he is an awesome and fun teacher. He will make you want to come to class everyday because he is so entertaining. If you don't believe me then you will just have to take him yourself!
Great professor, super funny guy, extremely nice. His lectures are very helpful and informational but his test are, according to Dr. Griffiths himself "The hardest thing I can possibly think of."
Dr. Griffiths is a hilarious professor who cares about his students. His tests are tough but fair. You need to show up to class because he can cover 2-4 sections in one lecture. He saved my grade in his class and my HOPE GPA by working with me to take my final before the scheduled date due to a personal conflict. He rocks, and I would recommend him
He's a good professor, don't get me wrong, but he is extremely difficult in tests. They are out of 15 points and he only gives half point credit (i.e. 9.5/15, no 9.25 etc). I'm a good student, and I understand the material, but he grades tough and doesn't curve.
One of the best professors I've had the pleasure of learning from. The course material was challenging, but his lectures are engaging and he only wants for people to succeed. He had multiple office meeting times to help out with difficult material. His tests can be intimidating, but the homework he assigns is great preparation. Would take again.
3 test which are easy if you do the study plan and take GOOD notes DONT just write down the question from the homework cause they normally aren't the ones you see on the test. Go to the study plan WRITE EVERY QUESTION DOWN super helpful for test. Homework is easy. Final is easy if you have all the question from study plan. Quizzes are easy.
I actually enjoyed going to class to hear his lectures. He teaches all the material well and will explain things so you understand it conceptually and not just how to do it on homework. No calculators. His tests are VERY hard. I've never had to work so much for a B in my entire life but I really believe I learned a lot and am prepared for calc 2
Great teacher, keeps the class engaged. The only thing that I say that is bad is the amount of homework, but if your taking CALC 2 then it is needed.
He truly cares about teaching his students and giving them a pathway in Mathematics. Prepare for his tests to have that one problem that you forgot to review for. It's a hard class but it's the way math classes are supposed to be.
This dude is great. He's easy to understand, funny, chill, and really cares about you not only passing but also actually learning the math behind the maddness
If you struggle with Math he is the only professor to take. Don't expect to run to him at the last minute and get help but if you put in the effort he will help you every day. Wouldn't have passed Calc 1 without it. I should have took him for Algebra and Trig and I wouldn't have struggled so hard in Calculus.
A god-send for calculus. He carries himself with energy, which comes through very well to the students. He also can very well see when the students are burning out, and will let us all take a break with a funny story from his past, before backtracking and making sure we all understand. If you have the chance, take this prof.
Lots of work, but he makes sure you learn calculus. If you need to go past calc 1 this professor is for you. Don't call him Zach Galifianakis
Dr. Griffiths is a truly wonderful professor. He makes class interesting and in between all the laughs and jokes in the class, he strives to ensure that each student fully grasps the concept at hand. Even though the material can be challenging at times, Griffiths makes the class fun and inspires the student to aim to learn. #GriffithsCares
He really knows his subject and explains really well. But he lost my homework which was a big chunk of the grade and that made me fail his class. He is brutal when it comes to grading.
One of the best professors i have ever had, great lectures and great at answering questions but you have to ask them. Had him for Calc2, which is why he got a 5 for difficulty but that has more to do with the content then with him. Would recommend him to anyone. Do the homework, ask questions, pass.
He pretty much teaches you everything you need to know about calculus 2. He will help you if you seek for help. The tests that he gives are hard, but nothing new. 20% hw. 4 tests, each 15%, final is 20%. 1 or 2 drop on lowest hw. nothing else. If you are looking for easy A. don't take him. He is very solid teacher. Also his pretty funny.
Dr. Griffiths is one of the best professors I have had. Even if math isn't your strongest subject, his lectures are engaging and he is hilarious. The way he explains the material is very clear and is always available to answer questions. If you have to take calc TAKE DR GRIFFITHS! Tell him that field of dreams is the worst movie ever. enjoy!
He is a cool professor and all and his classes are not boring cause he spends a lot of time making jokes with the students of his class. But he class is pretty difficult don't take him unless you plan on working very hard. He is a strict grader and marks off for mistakes. So overall i had a enjoyable time failing his class. cool guy. tough grader:(
Honestly this professor is great person and great at teaching. Just be careful when taking this class, you need to do just a little more just to get the grade you want. Dont expect him to save you at the end of the semester as well.
He's a super funny guy, but his classes are hard. He has no problem helping you out in office hours or over emails, But has no pity for you if you are struggling. If you love math take him definitely, if you only want to pass. I'd avoid the stress.
Dr. Griffiths is the best math teacher I have ever had. Every time we had a question or were confused about a certain topic, he would walk through the problem step-by-step until we could understand it. Dr. G is an amazing and funny professor who can answer any question you can throw at him. Definitely take Dr. G if you have the chance.
Only four tests and a final, and tests are out of 15 points with five questions per test. Incredible teacher with amazing knowledge of the course and ability to answer questions in and out of the classroom. Lots of homework, but its necessary for the harder courses. Expect to come out being better at math, not with a crazy high grade.
Dr. G is an awesome teacher, the class itself is one if not the hardest class ive ever taken. He trys to help you out as much as he can and he does an awesome job explaining the material. He does give a lot of homework but it is to help you understand the material better. I would defiantly take him again .
Dr. G wants all of his students to succeed. The test are 5 questions for 15 points. This allows very small room for error, because 4 test is sixty percent of your grade. He is willing to help students, but there is a lot of homework and outside studying required to pass.
Excellent teacher. Difficult grader. A's were given at 85%, which sounds nice at first. But he grades every question individually out of 3 points. So if you don't get a question perfect, you get a 2.5/3. Guess what that is? 83%. So to get A's you need a fair amount of 3.0's, which is pretty tough to get from him. Grading system should be updated.
He is an amazing professor and is hilarious. He will help you out with your questions and does many examples. He has clear grading criteria. It is a tough meaning you need to attend the class and complete Hw and take notes then. There should be no problem in getting an A in class. His test questions come from HW so do your Homework.
Calc 2 is a very tough class. So be prepared to do your HW, take notes, and get Dr. G's help outside the class. You gotta attend the class every time and pay attention. Dr. G is an amazing professor, always ready to help you. He is hilarious and lightens up the mood when you are overwhelmed. His tests are straight forward and come from HW.
Griffiths was an ordinary professor, but his grading was very tough. He takes off so many points for minor flaws. The student won't get any feedback from the homework, so you will never get the chance to learn from your mistake. He will evaluate all assignments at the end of the semester. This was the lowest grade I have ever got in math class.
I agree with everything said by others about grading, 3 test, comp final, 20% homework. If you are lacking in trig and algebra skills, YOU WILL STRUGGLE HARD, he does not go back and explain "prereqs". Uses Mymathlab. REALLY FUNNY, but I just couldn't learn with his teaching style, some do great! Its ALL lecture with maybe one example per concept.
IF you LOVE math and don't mind how difficult calc is. Then he is a great pick for you. However, if your not already good at it and ONLY taking it because you have to DO NOT TAKE his class because you fail his DIFFICULT exams, and he will not make sure everyone gets the material. He will only teach the ones who are also in love with math.
At first I thought he was a chill professor and thought it was going to be a chill course, boy was I wrong. I started to realize throughout the semester he favors some students over others. Discrete Math is hard, but he never cared to explain any of the questions I asked them and brushed them aside. However he would answer the other students.
This is the professor for people who love math. If you dont, hes not for you. Especially since he doesnt feel bad for anyone who struggles in his class.
One of the toughest graders that I've ever had. There are SO few grades and most of them are tests (for which there is no curve). Would've failed horribly if I didn't withdraw. He's funny, he knows his stuff, but he doesn't communicate it well to those of us who don't love math.
Great teacher, maybe the best I've ever had. His class is hard, but he engages students and made me interested and active in his class. I wish I could have him for all my classes.
Top 3 professors I've had in the 5 semesters I've been at KSU. He encourages people to participate in class and is very good at helping people when they're having issues. Highly recommend for people who thrive in group settings. Tests can be difficult, but he does his best to make everything straight forward.
Dr. G is the best professor I've ever had. He makes it very entertaining and fun. He also cares. He once scrapped learning new material to review the whole day. Don't get me wrong, this class is HARD, but if you put in the work then you will pass. There are 4 test and a final worth 80% and homework worth 20%. I would definitely take again.
If you want a good grade in this class, he gives the resources to make it happen. Dr.G is a difficult grader, but he supplements that with helpful office hours and fun lectures. Do your homework, you'll regret it otherwise. If you have a question, he will walk you through it. If you like math, you should take his class, choose someone else if not.
Funny and really cares about his class. His lectures are all entertaining and easy to understand. Unfortunately, the tests have so few questions that if you mess up on one you lose a good chunk of the grade (tests are 60% of the final grade) and the homework can take a long time due to the sheer number of questions. Could use some rebalancing there
Dr. Griffiths is a difficult professor. If you're looking to take Discrete Mathematics to just get an A and be done, he isn't the professor for you. But if you're looking to actually learn the subject in depth, I highly suggest taking his class. He recommends taking his class after you've already taken Calculus I, but I managed an A after Precalc.
Although he teaches math, he is not a logical person at all. He favors some students over others. He is not respectful, and he grades very badly. There is no feedback on your grades. He is funny, but I think there are few students who want to have a funny teacher but does not appreciate the hard work of his students! Stay away if you can!
Prof. Griffiths is an amazing person & professor. If you are looking for an easy A though, I DO NOT recommend taking him. If you want to actually learn the material and challenge yourself, then he is the best professor to take. He is available often & wants to see everyone succeed.
Griffiths is the best professor I've ever had at KSU. He teaches well and is clearly passionate about math. Passing his class requires studying, but not a lot. I only studied a week before every exam, and passed all of them except the first one, which I did not study for. He also gives extra credit when it makes sense.
Prof. Griffiths seemed to be a great lecturer. He was engaging and it felt like I was learning. Though, despite doing all of the homework on time and studying 10hrs + per week, attending office hours, I still got an F in the class. I didn't give Griffiths a bad rating because it's probably not his fault that I'm not smart enough for the class.
Like most people are saying for Discrete here, Dr. Griffiths lectures are great. He often cracks a lot of jokes and covers the material very well. It's a pretty hard course, but he gives you the resources to succeed. Gives a good bit of homework, however the homeworks help you to learn a lot, especially for this class. 100% wish I took him sooner.
Griffiths is a must-take if you need to take calc 2. His lectures are really hard to get bored of as he's really funny and engaging compared to some other KSU math professors who seem like they want to hug trees with their cars. He goes over HW questions every class, and his test grading is very fair. He also gives extra credit opportunities!
I took Professor Griffiths for Calculus 2 and Discrete Math, and he's an all-out great professor.
He grades work extremely tough, only cares about you passing if he likes you.
Professor Griffiths gives awesome and engaging lectures. Griffiths explains complex topics in easy understandable ways, as well as analogies that make understanding topics easy. The test Griffiths gives are a little too hard in my opinion averages ranged around (45-70) % for summer . Must take professor math professor to learn topics.
I recommend taking William Griffiths for Calc 1. I attended his classes because his lectures were engaging (which is surprising for Calc). He does have multiple HW assignments due per week (10-20 questions), but this is standard with any Calc professor. His exams are freshly made before test day and consist of 5 questions.
Homework was essentially graded for completion so don't expect feedback on whether you did something correctly unless you go to his office hours. He's a charismatic professor and I thoroughly enjoyed his class. He has a curve built into the grade - only need 85% overall for an A. Discrete Math itself isn't easy, but Professor Griffiths is great.
Dr. Griffiths is a great calculus professor. HW assignments are on Achieve and usually consist of about 20 questions. There are 4 test that are based off the HW assignments and a common final. The final is super easy compared to any of his test. If you really want to understand calculus, he's amazing. Go to office hours and participate in class!
One of the most impressive qualities of Dr. Griffiths is his genuine passion for mathematics. This is apparent once you take his class because he can explain all the difficult topics at such a palpable level. I recommend you take him if you are very interested in math, don't take him if you want a free A, you have to put in effort in this class!
You HAVE to attend lecture if you want a chance of doing well in the class. He's a very funny and chill guy. He explains any concept or question that you'll have very well. I would take him again without a doubt. The course moves very fast so be ready for that.
calculus 2 is hard, it doesn't matter who you take, but if you want a good chance at passing take professor griffiths. He's funny, does his best to keep the class engaging and does everything he can to help you. He gives extra credit on most tests, definitely take his class if you can!
Please read this as I guarantee its the only feedback youll need. Griffiths is the best professor you can pick. He will keep the class entertained and will teach the material exceptionally. He understands you and your needs, and he will make sure you not only learn the material but are also able to use it for future use. take him!
Overall pretty chill guy. Hilarious. Had great lectures. Unfortunately my learning style and his teaching style just didn't work out, and I thought the tests were a bit too hard. Otherwise pretty good teacher if you liked that fast paced teaching
Mr. Griffiths is a good person and passionate about math, but I needed a teacher who could explain the material well. His tests only had five questions, and were VERY difficult. He also graded very harshly. He wasn't able to teach us what we needed. His DWF rate is around 50%(which he was very happy about), and I can understand why. Don't do it.
He is funny and passionate about math, but if you're a visual learner then he is not for you. His tests are very hard consisting of only 5 Q and he grades it out of 15 marks. Basically if u you mess up one Q you get a B so there is no room for mistakes at all. He does not give extra credit at all and even if he does, it makes no impact to our grade
He is really passionate about math but he gets too excited and goes off topic during lectures. He tested on Calc 2 material 1 week before finals and takes forever to update grades. I felt constant pressure in his class and he tries helping but I didn't like the way he taught and had to learn a lot of things myself outside of class. Not recommended.
Dr. Griffith is genuinely the best calculus professor. If you really want to learn calculus, he is the best option for you. However, his tests can be hard, and he can be a harsh grader, but he makes up for it with extra credit based on class performance, and if you get an 85% overall, it is an A. He made the common final feel like a piece of cake.
Dr. G was amazing. He was funny and genuinely cared for his students. This class was difficult, but as long as you go to class, take good notes, do ALL of your homework, and go to office hours if you have questions, you should be able to do very well.
