An Amazing Teacher!!!!!!
Best teacher I have ever had. Made me want to come to class and learn. Take his class if you get the chance.
an awsome teacher. knows how to lay it out without being hard. great guy to get along with (as long as you dont make it to hard) Im enrolled in to of his classes this semester (TV2 and TV Lab). if your looking to learn about anything in the TV biz (or film in general) hes the guy to go to.
VERY knowledgable about the entire industry. He's the man to go to if you want to know something. He can play favorites, though...and if you're not one of them, he can be grumpy. Be prepared and ontime to class and professional at all times on the sets and you won't get on his bad side.
He's a nice guy, and I'm sure he's really cool in his other classes like TV production. It's just in Film 100 he was very boring, just like Brian Lewis, but maybe it was the way the course was designed. Lectures and boring videos. You get to watch about 3 good movies, the rest are whack.
Awesome teacher! Has more experiance than 20 community college professers put together! The guy knows his stuff and is funny in a Mayberry kind of way. Interesting to listen to as well.
I could see him being a cool teacher for any other class. but honestly it was so hard to stay awake during his lectures.
Bill is such an awesome guy. But you gotta prove you want to learn it other wise who will be like whatever.
Bill Hall knows the business. I've had 3 classes with him. In the TV production classes and TV engineering class, he was more reserved about his experience. He did reveal much more in his EFP Class. A student will benifit from his experience but you have to pick it out of him. He doesn't freely give it to you unless you ask. Equiptment 2nd to none.
He knows his stuff. If you want a good grade and you show him your working for it, he'll give it to you. He makes himself easily available for office hours if you need help or miss a class. Very helpfull teacher
Awesome teacher with a lot of real world experiences. Go to class and crew calls on time. lectures can be long but he gives you every opportunity to get an A.
I have never learned so much from a teacher as I had from this one. Prof. Hall gets you involved hands-on early, describes the entertainment industry in depth, and rarely drags you into lectures. I know many students who took the class casually, but are now determined to take his higher class. A great instructor.
The most awesome teacher I've ever had. Extremely helpful and insightful. If you stay after class, he always have some funny insider story to tell you about the business.
Sure you get to watch a lot of movies in this class and learn some interesting tid bits of information on the movie business. But if you're looking for an easy A, this class ISN'T it. The tests are pretty dang hard, and if you miss just one lecture, you're test grade goes down the crapper.
great professor to have. he really knows what he's doing, and keeps things simple for the most part.
very nice teacher. he is very knowledgeable and has worked in the movie business himself. If you like movies you will learn some very interesting things about the business and famous directors and pioneers of the film world. Tests get difficult, i have gotten an A on all of them so far but with some studying. He tells you what you need to know
He's funny and he knows his stuff. You'll watch alot of movies and learn alot of interesting stuff. Attendance is big, you'll miss alot if you don't show up. He tells you what is on the test before hand so tests are pretty easy. I really liked his class.
Good class, and easy A. He does not waste a minute and gets to the lecture as soon as possible. His tests are pretty much based on facts, so all you need to do is memorize his lecture notes and the in-class video fill-ins...i studied for maybe 3 hours before on the day of the test, and have gotten an A, B, A on my tests. Attendance is crucial.
Lectures clear, organized, and easy to follow. A few fun personal anecdotes about his real-world film experience.
I couldn't wish a better teacher. Simply great and Humble . I will surely take his other classes .... thanks again for your Help Mr. Hall.
I hated movies when I started it, now I like them a little bit. During class it was my world. 3 very easy test if you...A) Review the workbook B) Write down what he says write down from the lectures. He is straight forward, and crisp. I recommend.
you should take his class. it's very very easy! just fill in the blanks in the textbooks during the lectures.
AMAZING TEACHER. He is very very organized and every student understands exactly what he is saying because his powerpoints are so perfect. Easy, fill in the blanks, no reading/no hw. And he gives you the questions that are on the test! EASY A, and lots of extra credit available.
Very easy class. Prof. Hall has quite a bit of experience so he definitely knows his stuff. Three non cumulative exams with available extra credit. Your attendance also counts for points. I've seen movies that I would not have thought I'd like, but now I'm glad that I've had a chance to appreciate them now. Lots of test questions from his lectures.
Mr. Hall is a great teacher. Mr. Hall appears to be uptight in the beginning but his information is very organized. Mr. Hall class book is awesome. All the class information is clear and you dont get any surprises on the test.
If you take notes and fill in the spaces in the workbook, you'll ace this class! Attendance is not mandatory but recommended, because if you miss a class...you're pretty much screwed on all that information.
Extremely easy but completely non-informative. Teacher openly discourages questions and discussion; I got the feeling he was just killing time and would rather have been anywhere else. DO NOT let this teacher discourage you from studying film further.
Super chill
Easy class, easy test, experienced teacher. A class that you want to attend.
Hall is to film, as Jesus is to Christanity!!!
Hall's classes are very informative and straightforward. Take good notes. The textbook is your best friend, and he wrote it, so the tests follow it specifically. He tells you which notes from the textbook will be on the tests, and there are test review questions available if you come early to class. Highly recommend this class.
Favorite class so far. Funny guy. 3 hrs long but goes by fast b/c of video clips&movies. Must take pretty detailed notes @ times but mostly fill-in the blank. 3 exams MC (super easy if you make FCs of what he says will be on test). Some outside viewing of movies required. EC opportunity for 12 pts. Easy A if you study properly :)
The textbook only costs 28 bucks and he tells you whats on the tests.Make sure you actually study the book! This is the only class i looked forward to! Hall has LOTS of experience in film and he's really passionate about it so he makes the class interesting. I really recommend this class even if your not crazy about movies. :)
Amazing teacher, makes class very interesting. He is a great storyteller, you don't feel like he's lecturing at all. Just pay attention, study for the test, attend class and you should be fine. (Great sense of humor btw)
he is a LEGEND!!! interesting, easy class!
Very easy professor. If you're looking for a GPA Booster take him! You'll also learn about a myriad of interesting movie facts.
great teacher!!!
Best prof. ever :)
makes you take alot of notes. very interesting class especialli if you enjoy movies
Class comprised of three tests only, so no homework. The textbook is really straightforward and you take notes right into that. He tells you exactly what's going to be on the exam and, basically, you watch movies the entire time. Go figure. Really would recommend this class and professor.
i love movies so this class was great! It's not hard at all. It's important to go everyday because you will take notes in there and he counts attendance. I loved it, and it was not hard at all. Just study your notes and you'll get an A. His tests are around 75 problems which seems bad, but isn't at all. I'd recommend him.
This class was a blast! Bill is a great teacher and as long as you show up to class and do well on your scripts and performance, you will do great. I recommend taking this class.
Professor Hall knows his subject completely! He gives you all the info from the beginning of film to the present & it's all very interesting. I find myself saying "Oh hey, did you know this/that about that film?" He wrote the text; it's pretty cheap & you need it. He'll say what's on the test; they're easy if you study & take good notes!
As a blowoff class, this is insanely easy. Just take the notes you need and you're good. He tells you what questions are on the test. However, for those interested in the subject he's good too and his lectures are great. Never found them or the movies boring.
Kinda cool class learning about the history of film, watching films, etc. but I still couldn't pass his class with all the studying I did. He was pretty hard when it came to test time.
Very organized teacher! he's extremely enthusiastic about teaching and everyone loves him. He makes film SO interesting and has a cool sense of humor. His tests package a lot of information, but easily passable if you just collect and retype all the facts on a study guide packet. Easy A+. He's a little fast sometimes with power points though.
This class is an easy A. Just study your dates and information. He gives you the answers to the tests and there's extra credit. He does take attendance seriously so always be there and on time for his class. The attendance will be added to the end of each of your exam. Want an easy A? Take this class
Mr Hall is so nice he always make time for us. He inspirational and has knowledge about film and doesn't bore you all movies are something we would watch. He strict on attendance and tardiness you have respect that! His test aren't tricky he tells you what to study.
Also had him for TV1. Bill is the greatest film professor ever! He makes learning machine room operations fun and does cool labs to practice what we learn. He's super easy and you learn a lot. If you're nerdy and curious about behind the scenes TV production this class is for you.
His class was amazing!! I enjoy it so much that I was sad it was ending so soon! Its a very easy A!and he tells you what is on the test, his films are not boring but interesting!I recommend everyone should take him for an elective class! :)
Amazing Teacher, took him for Film 100, there wasn't a day we were bored in class very easy and super interesting.
First class out of High School - easiest class I've ever taken in the past 5 or 6 years. Three 75 point tests, Attendance points, and Extra Credit. I fell asleep every day and came out with a 95%
You NEED the textbook. It'll be your study guide, your answer key, and your best friend in this class. Pay attention to lectures and especially videos. Take notes on whatever he tells you to take notes on. Does a review for exactly what will be on the test so study those and ignore the rest. Very interesting and even more fun class to take.
I loved this class, and Prof Hall knows this subject inside and out! Interesting lectures, where I learned a lot of the history behind movies. Come early to class, gives valuble info to study. TAKE THIS CLASS!! I would do it myself over and over again..
Awesome class. Veryyy Interesting!!! Absolutely Recommend. And this teacher is great. No homehowk and you watch films. Tells you exactly what will be on the test. All you need to do is study!
Loved this class. Its easy, fun and funny. Professor Hall makes a great lecture. Take because its extremely easy.
The online course contains 3 exams and nothing more. Professor Hall helps you out when you ask for it. The exams are fairly simple as all the questions come from his lectures that you watch. Be sure to take notes and make your own study guide at the end of each lecture and you'll be fine. Learned a lot about film, and I'm glad I took his class.
Took summer. Very easy class, your homework was only watching 2 movies. All the test questions are given. There is an extra credits for the final test. Just make sure you fill the textbook. I hate history but he makes it really interesting somehow. Multiple choice + True/false question for the test. Attendance is very important.
Best teacher ever! To get the "A" in this class: keep up with attendance, study for your 3 exams, and take advantage of the extra credit. Lectures are clear and easy to understand, get to watch great movies, and the subject is interesting!
So interesting!! Since he is a director, he gives you the inside scoop on cinema which makes the class really cool. He has a really dry sense of humor but he is very knowledgeable. Make flash cards to study for the test. I liked this class a lot more than I thought I would!
Show up to class as he tells you what will be on the tests. Aside from that, most of the classes were just documentaries of films, so it was kind of boring. Most of the notes that you fill in your textbook can be found online, so just pay attention when he tells you what's on the test.
He is a very captivating professor. He makes the class interesting! The 4 hour class felt shorter because of it. Attendance is important and you should study. As easy as the class is, you can fall behind. I would take this class again.
Great guy with a lot of experience. Funny stories from his days in Hollywood. 3 tests, attendance points count. Don't let the first test scare you, the next two tests are easier. Watch the 4 extra credit films that he assigns. Great class to spend my summer on.
online class is graded on only 3 tests. you watch maybe a 30 minute lecture then fill in blanks for a movie. after maybe 4 lectures theres a test. tests are not hard if you take notes but it is kind of hard if you don't pay attention to lectures. you can't google every question so take some notes. not very hard class if you need the credits.
Even though the class was online, I really enjoyed it! The online class has 3 exams; you have to take notes on the online lectures and watch the movies while filling out the notes. The first exam may be a little difficult, but after that it gets easier and more interesting. Recommended if you want an easy A and need to fulfill your GE's!
Great instructor--so informative and interesting! There are lectures, lab exercises, group projects, and 2 exams. Learned a lot about the technical aspect of live television. Highly recommend this instructor! Just make sure you have a solid and serious group of people you want to work with when doing group projects.
Professor Hall is funny and nice. He works in the movie industry so he put his personal experience into the lecture which is interesting for students. The first test is a little harder than the others. But the good thing is he tells you what will be on the tests so don't worry, just follow the notes, focus on the lecture and you will get good grade
The teacher is awesome as always and the class is very interesting to learn! For TV Lab, it's important to look at this class as a part time job. There is no homework, however; you have to put in a certain number of lab hours per week. Fairly open availability is expected and there is a final exam towards the end of the semester. Very recommended!
Very funny and nice. He tells you what will be on the tests but you need to make sure you pay attention to the things he says in class because some end up on the tests without him telling you. The first test is a little harder than the others. Extra credit is offered (up to 12 points), 3 exams total, you get points for attendance, no homework.
EASY A. Watch your weekly lectures on blackboard and take notes. For the required movie viewings, just google OCC Film 100 online and you'll be able to find all of the answers for the movie questions. It'll save you tons of time. The grade is comprised of three 75 question exams based on the notes and movie viewings. Easiest class at OCC I've had.
BEST class throughout the semester. Textbook needed and take good note, study and you will get an easy A. He has experience working in Hollywood and his lectures are hilarious. At the end of the final meeting we gave a big applause. Extra credit assignments are recommended since they're awesome movies so why not.
EASY A as long as you take notes throughout the lecture. You can find some of the answers on Google but not all. Overall it's a pretty easy class, take it for GE.
Professor William is the best professor. He gives good explanation during his lecture, and you need to pay attention very well because some of his explanation will be on the exams. Overall, I really enjoy his class.
TAKES NOTE!!!!
I don't get why people like this class. I literally fell asleep overtime of boredom. He "tells" you what to study, but in reality he tells you to study everything in the book which doesn't help. Easy B not an easy A. Unless you like film. There is a lot more better, easier and more interesting classes you could take. I would not recommend.
The 3 exams are the only things that will be in your overall class grade so STUDY for them. He only gives one chance for extra credit during the final exam. It costed $10 to get a video rental card. It's mandatory to check out the films to get the points, but you don't actually have to watch them. Read the summaries online and you'll get the EC
Great professor. There is only 3 exams, no assignments or homework. Make sure you study for the exams! He gives a very clear study guide and has some great Hollywood stories.
3 Exams+ Attendance is part of the grade. Lectures are long, but he tries his best to make them funny/interesting. Go to class, pay attention, and take notes! Before each test he tells you EVERYTHING you need to study so there's no reason for you not to do well. On test days, come to class early so you can study and test early!
I really enjoyed professor Hall's class! I was a little worried about being able to stay focused during a 3 hour lecture (and every class in a lecture) but I found the topics interesting and Hall tells lots of interesting stories from his days in the film industry. You watch a few films in class and it's an easy A as long as you show up!
I took Hall over the intercession and I really enjoyed his class. Sitting in a lecture hall for 3 hours a day, 4 days a week isn't my idea of fun but he made it bearable. The class itself isn't necessarily difficult, just long, but I still looked forward to coming to class each day.
I recommend not taking this class online. I am sure that in class it is probably more interesting in class but the online lectures go by so slow and you have to write so much down. Grade is based off 3 tests only and they're very long. You won't do well if you do not sit through the lectures and actually pay attention.
Easy class to get an A. First test actually was the hardest as there are more dates and names to memorize. Quiz answers can easily be found online as well though the fill in book will probably help a little. Took the 6 week course and still felt like the course dragged on. Entire course could probably be taught in like 2 weeks.
Good choice for Film 100 online. The lectures were long but informative. Questions on tests were given at the end of lecture video. The required viewing was an easy date night! Grab some popcorn and watch some movies!
Your grade only consists of three 75-question tests timed for 75 minutes. He offers two 5-point extra credit writing assignments that can help you gain some points back. If you're like me and you're not good at test-taking, time management, and your grades usually rely heavily on homework, papers, etc. I would recommend taking another professor.
Professor Hall is someone who is really passionate about what he does and is extremely knowledgeable in the world of film. The class is pretty simple and he is clear about what the expectations and grading criteria are. Whether you're a film student or not this is a simple yet interesting class that you won't regret taking.
Easy class. Watch the lectures and movies and you get an A. He gives you a review after every lecture and a section review before every test. Gives out EC during the semester. His lectures are amazing and I definitely learned a lot from them. Recommend for any film major or a person trying to knock off an easy GenEd.
Super easy class!!!
Solid Professor here's the jest. Mandatory to buy his textbook. You watch pre-recorded lectures. At the end of each lecture session, he has a review. I recommend writing down the review material on flashcards as a study tool. Only grades are from three tests. Two 5 pt extra credit work. movies a very enjoyable. around 1 hour of work a week. easy A
Interesting class. While grades are based on three exams, there were two extra credit opportunities offered. 2-3 hours of work every week. Exam mostly contains end of lecture review questions and the textbook fill in questions. Lectures are 1-2 hours long, but the shorter lectures are usually pretty condensed with information.
Three 75 question exams, I disliked how they were formatted. You couldn't skip ahead or go back to look at questions. Definitely can't skip watching and taking notes on the lectures. I ended up watching only 2-3 of the movies, all of the answers to the fill ins are online on a website. 2 easy extra credit assignments worth 5 points each
Get through the lectures and videos and you're good to go. He's very caring and understanding. I loved how interesting the lectures were.
Birth of a Nation is a disgusting film that is deeply rooted in racism and is REQUIRED viewing for this class. All of the questions on the workbook/test reflected the plot of the film and in no way talked about the technical side of this movie (the only reason to watch maybe small clips of the film). His power points are monotone snooze-fests too.
My first class in OCC and my only class that I took over the summer. Super great professor, but he was very monotone. Some films were quite memorable and It's an easy A as long as you watch the lectures, take notes, and do what is needed. Tests are 75 questions and as long as you have your notes, you will be fine. Gives out EC too!!
No classwork only lectures and three tests. Need to watch lectures to pass the tests.
Loved this class! Definitely take GREAT notes from the lectures and study them each week. You are only graded on 3 tests. But gives 2 extra credit assignments that can help your grade. Overall I highly recommend this class if you like to watch movies ;)
He is really nice, this class is only graded by 3 tests. I definitely recommend him to people who do well on tests, but people who are like me should try to find a different professor. His three tests are 75 questions within 75 minutes, I wish he would give more time to finish the test. He does give 2 EC so don't forget to do them!
Very straightforward class. Every week new lectures are uploaded. Watch the lectures and take notes, he even asks review questions at the end to help you study (questions are similar to the tests). There is a textbook that you need for the class that was made by him, it is super easy to use and helpful. Super simple class, he wants you to succeed!
Professor Hall is a really nice professor, the class consists of 3 exams and he offers extra credit opportunity. Lectures are posted every week. As long as you take good notes of the lectures and study them you'll be okay on the exams
The class is very easy and the professor seemed passionate about film. There were opportunities for extra credit and you are graded by only 3 exams. The exams were fairly easy if you just watched the lectures and took notes (and ofc watched the films). Learning about the history of film was more fun than I anticipated. I would recommend!
Professor Hall's FILM100 class is straightforward and manageable. Lectures are engaging, and the textbook he created is very helpful. The three tests are challenging but can be aced with diligent note-taking and study prep using tools like unstuck ai. Overall, a solid class for film enthusiasts.
Professor Hall made learning about film super inspiring and fun. His online lectures are only like an hour per week, and the tests are based off of watching required movies and lecture notes. Super doable if you pay attention and take notes, and there's also two extra credit assignments. It's good as a filler class too.
