I found him to be a great teacher. Others did not! You really have to pay attention, he goes a little fast. Out of 30 in the class about 15 were left at the end. He gives reviews and has a notebook in library with old exams!
I liked his class. Some people found him to be hard. But if you listen and go home and go over notes you'll be fine. He leaves notes and past tests in library. You'll know what you made in the class the day of exam. Don't miss a day or you'll be lost!
Don't take him ever for calculas or you will end up droping the course..........
If math is not your subject do not take him. He is not helpful and is frankly just rude.
He speaks very fast, and is very hard to understand. DO NOT take him if math is not your subject! Not a very interesting class...
Eh, he likes math a lot, but can go kinda fast. I got a B and never used the book. Not too hard of a professor, but not very interesting.
too hard to understand
Mr. Hierman is great! He leaves copies of tests in the library and just uses different numbers for the actual test. If you study those it is easy to make an A.
Wonderful professor, goes pretty fast, but allows for questions after he is done. He grades depending on how hard you work and not so much on how you do on the tests except for the final. If you are willing to put in the effort, take this professor.
I hated this teacher, and I can't say that about many teachers. He was so rude and obnoxious to other people in my class that I hated going to class. On the first test, I got an 85 although I got every answer right, I didn't work it out the way he wanted me to. I dropped him. Not worth it. Take Brink!
He had never taught stastics before. It was too hard to understand him b/c he would talk fast. He was very rude. We started out with 40 people in the class and ended w/20. If there are no other teachers to take and u have to take take the class with him go to the library and make copies of his notes & test they will help u get throught his class.
By far the rudest professor I have ever had!
this guy is soo boring and he is jus too hard to understand and goes through his lessons too fast to keep up..

He thinks math is exciting. He starts screaming out equations and laughing, very odd. oh yeah and he has a whiney, annoying voice.
Explains things at an intellectual level that should be done in technical classes such as Calc 1 and Calc 2. Wish he could be my Calc 3 teacher. Explains things in a way that are typically easy to understand.

He is to smart to teach. He think every one is a math teacher. If you do not understand math realy well do not take his class. He will not explane any thing to you.
he SUCKES!!!! he trys to teach you that math and english go hand and hand. he talks way to much about things, not a good teacher
in class today he was trying to explain a way he does something to another math teacher, and the other teacher didnt even understand what he was trying to say. wtf man!
The crappiest teacher on earth for entry level math.
This teacher taught many techniques to do problems and make it a lot easier and a lot less work to do the problems he assigned. Had him first semester. Really easy tests because they show up on your review which he will go over if you ask questions.
He is a good teacher.
Omg what a horrible teacher... I thought people were joking when they rated him badly but he really sucks: -if you ask a question he will lead u in circles -doesn't listen to the sudents questions -makes at least 5-6 mistakes while teaching you per day -and makes mistakes on his own hw keys
If you are bad in math or you are just taking math because you have to, then you shouldn't take him. Otherwise, I highly recommend him. If you have ANY questions, ASK!!! He is willing to help. Overall, Mr. Heirman is a great teacher.
Although he does fly through his lectures, it is hard to fail the course if you are there for every class. If your not retarded, it's easy to understand his explanations. Also, he leaves the key to all homeworks in the library, and puts sample tests there too. If you study the sample tests, you will pass because he just changes the numbers.
It wasn't that he was a bad teacher, he just wasn't very helpful. If you ever tried to ask a question he would make you feel like a fool for not understanding. He tried to encourage participation but when you do he will openly mock you. He is an odd man who is really REALLY into math. He does teach many diffrent techniques and his tests are easy.
Heierman is very nice and cares about his students, but he talks like an auctioneer even after establishing that you're lost. He is willing to help, but I can't understand him anyway. Don't bother with the book. Attendance and notes are mandatory - participation helps a LOT. The course was too challenging, although he was very kind to pass me.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. He does not use the textbook at all, so dont buy it. Avoid taking him, but if you have to, just hang in there until the end when he does final grades. Test 1 and 3 are easy, the others are very unfairly set up. You will do fine as long as you have someone else teaching you outside of class, dont rely on him
Anyone who is reading the post below this... DO NOT LISTEN. HIERMAN IS BACK. he is the worst teacher by far. when teaching, he expects you to know everything before he even says anything. he starts to ramble and most people dont even know he is speaking english. HORRIBLE teacher. you would do better just doing the work on your own.
just do your homework and sample test(original is same with change of numbers) and you will be good...simple teaching tech...i liked him is taking him in for summer for cal 1 will write more on how it went...
I took his Business Calculus class over the summer. He has put a sour taste in my mouth about WCJC, and mathematics. He knows a lot about math, but does not know how to teach it. There should be gaps between student knowledge and a prof knowledge, so don't expect us to know it! He never took the time to learn any of the student's names! SUCKS
Horrible professor. Always had a negative comment to say when someone would ask a question. Do yourself a favor and do not take this guy....
GREAT TEACHER...SEEMS TO TEACH AT A FAST PACE IN LOWER MATH COURSES BUT SLOWES THE PACE DOWN QUITE A BIT ONCE YOU GET INTO CALCULUS.
omg this is the worst teacher in WCJC have never seen this type of math teacher in my life imagine a teacher telling students to say YES when is question is not even clear i you hardly hear him cause he speaks with his nose. However he never understands that we are student and we just learning he thinks the students understand math to his level and
He is seriously the WORST teacher inhistory that i have ever had..don't take his class please unless you want to be tortured lol
A very effective professor. I find him to be one of the best teachers I have had. This is my 2nd time taking one of his classes, the first was his trig course, and I received an A in it. He is always available to help out and will never turn u down. I find the ones that say he's a "bad" teacher are the ones looking for a free A. Excellent teacher.
The WORST TEACHER EVER..he never goes slow..he always goes fast.and he thinks hes a n Harvard Professor..dont take him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hes very confusing and doesnt explain well
This guy is kind of crazy. I strongly DON'T recommend him. Heierman talks down on students when they ask a question. He's very sarcastic and he also doesn't explain well at all. I'm taking College Algebra and he's making it very very diffucult.
Absolutely stay away from this guy. I agree with the comment directly below mine-- he is a condescending moron face. Wish I could put what I really think but "libelous comments will be deleted." I roasted him on my teacher review. Terrible teacher, does not deserve title of "professor."
Easy class, but I sometimes wondered if it was worth going to. His class was extremely boring, and to make matters worse, he tends to insult you and treat you like a 4 year old. If you do the homework you'll do fine. It's pretty much the same pre-cal class you took in high school though. Oh, and he has an extremely annoying, sniveling voice.
Worst teacher in HISTORY!!!! never take this guy, he can't teach for anything, i don't know how he got hired. Just stay away from him!!! Trust me
this guy thinks that he is a math genius, when clearly he isn't. he makes a lot of careless mistakes when going over a problem, makes everyone in the class agree with him about what he is talking about (even though must of the class doesn't even know what he is doing because he goes way to fast). in conclusion, i didnt learn anything. dont take him
Super weird. Really rude. Perfectionist and hard grader. BUT, he has a catch. If you do terrible in the class and make a good grade on the final, he'll give you a better grade. I passed only one test but made a B on the final and he gave me a B for the course!
This professor is for mathematicians only! Very skilled math teacher. After you get out of his class you feel like you are ready to solve any math problem thrown at you.
He is a very challenging teacher. We never used the book, but he does have an answer book in the library that is helpful- you basically have to teach yourself in this class. Because when you ask questions, he makes you feel like an idiot. Luckily, i passed because i sat in the front and know math well. Don't take him if you struggle in math
NOONE TAKE THIS CLASS. I HAVE ONLY GOTTEN A'S IN ALL MATH CLASSES EVER TAKEN AND THE THINGS I WAS TAUGHT TO DO IN HIGHSCHOOL AS SIMPLY AS (BOXING MY ANSWERS) HE WOULD COUNT OFF 12 POINTS WHEN ALL THE MATH WAS COMPLETELY RIGHT.HE TALKS TOO FAST,THINKS HES COOL WHEN HE DOES THE PROBLEMS ON THE BORED SO FAST TO WHERE YOU CANT UNDERSTAND. YOU WILL FAIL
Take him if you're good at math. DO NOT if you're bad. He moves very fast and you won't be able to keep up if you're trying to learn what he's saying. He seems harsh, but even though I failed EVERY test, I made a B on the final and he gave me a B for the whole course!
this profesor is a great teacher. he's very smart and knows exactly what he's doing. DO NOT take him if you're bad a t math, he's fast paste and hes horrible at answering questions during class. people that give him bad ratings are the ones looking for an easy class. do his homeworks and youll do great.
Fast paced and to the point. Grades accuracy and connotation. By no means an "easy A", you must listen carefully and pay close attention. Great mathematics professor, not for the slacker.
Had for College Algebra i thought the class was fairly simple...all the homework answers are in the library if you didnt understand it ask him..bad thing is that you have to do the math his way..or its wrong..if your pretty good at math take him..if not dont
An amazing teacher! interested in the how and why, a fast paced environment and a point based mathematical system. Take it, do not drop it. He is extremely helpful, a long as you do the math.
its his way or no way. he tries to be funny but fails badly
Very fast paced teacher. General pattern of teaching is 2 days of teaching current material and 2 days of new material with the occasional Q&A session on Friday at his discretion. If math is not something that you quickly grasp, he is NOT the teacher for you. Not the best question answerer, so you're pretty reliant on notes and third-party help.
I took him for Trigonometry and he is very passionate about math. Make sure you listen to what he says because its easy to make simple mistakes on the tests. I enjoyed his class. There are 4 tests and a comprehensive final. Sometimes you have to turn in homework. He always gives a review before the test with the same type of ?s
Mr. Heierman IS a great teacher, you have to get on his level to understand. A LOT of work. There were 8 A's in the class and the only reason I did not receive one was because I was VERY lost in the beginning of the class. I got through by watching instructional videos on Youtube. You must be ready to give 100% from the first day until the end.
I have never in my life DISLIKED someone as much as i have this teacher. I walked out of his class twice. I am good at math and worked so hard just to make sure i passed. He makes his students feel stupid if you ask a question. Rude. Sarcastic. Weird. Hard. I would NEVER suggest anyone to take him. Get out if you can there are WAY better teachers
He is fast-paced at times and you need to be committed to the course or you'll fall behind. However, if you don't understand something just ask him, he 's helpful and clear when explaining stuff. He expects you to completely write-out every step to each problem on his exams. He takes out lots of points for not showing enough work
Take Hierman if: you truely care about learning math, and are smart. Do not take Hierman if: you are dumb, lazy, or taking a math class because 'you have to.'
He is a great professor, and obviously very smart. He is willing to help as much as you need. Just hard to follow in his class. Take him if you really want to learn math.
He is hard, not helpful at all, almost like he talks down to you, he is smart, but can't teach, he should be in research or somewhere not around others
I actually liked this class. It's not the funnest but you actually learn the material. He is very clear, just study for the tests. I am taking him for my future math classes. I would recommend him if you actually want to learn.
If you are already amazing at math, you will love this teacher. If your major is math, you will love this teacher. If neither of those apply to you, TAKE SOMEONE ELSE. He is hard to follow, offers no help, and when you ask a question, he will make you feel stupid before answering. He knows his stuff but you better already know most of the material.
Having all A's in math, I was expecting an easy class. However, his explaining techniques didn't work for me. When I asked him for help, he just said the exact same thing he said before. His class takes a lot of patience and lots of trial and error. In the end, if he sees you trying, he'll be good to your grade.
I had prior knowledge of calculus before in high school so right now I don't find his class extremely difficult to get an A. As long as you do your homework and stay awake in class every day you'll do fine. Also If you go to his office for help you will succeed.
I had prior knowledge of calculus in high school so I think getting an A in his class is not that hard. As long as you do his worksheets, go to class on time, stay awake each day, and go to his office if you need help you will succeed. If you don't understand something in class don't be afraid to ask, b/c he talks fast.
He is does not know how to teach . He expects you to know all the material and DON'T YOU DARE asking him any question.I just finished my third test and I think I will drop the class. I am an A student and this is my first drop. I have been stressed all week.. Don't take him. Drive to another campus if you can.
Hard to keep up with. He will make fun of you and get angry if you answer a question wrong or even ask him a question. Can be very rude and discouraging, wouldnt recommend taking him as a teacher, but if you're taking Calc 2, you pretty much have no choice...
Literally one of the most confusing people to talk to. He says such random things and when you ask a question he tells you to reword what you say bc its not formatted correctly for him. DONT TAKE HIM. interrupts your question and doesn't help.
His tests are just like the review he gives you so study! However, he is isn't very clear when explaining material and talks wayyyyy too fast! Interrupts in middle of question and can come off as rude. Take at your own risk.
On the final, you only have to do 8 out of 11 random calculus questions that are based off his test reviews and worksheets. Each question has 4-6 subquestions. If u did those and some textbook problems u will do good on the final
Heierman does not teach out of the textbook, so u have to study the textbook and do some practice problems over the material he teaches in class so u can succeed
One of my favorite math instructors of all time. Ultimately, if you just want to get credit for a math course and move on, he is NOT the professor for you. However, if you're goal is to understand the math completely, he is EXACTLY the right professor for you. If you go to class, pay attention, and show that you care, he'll take care of your grade
HORRIBLE!!!!!!!! I took him for Trig, he goes way to fast. Doesn't explain things well enough. If you're a novice or not very well in math and want to learn. DONT TAKE HIM. He teaches for experts even though, Trig is a beginner's class.
Would not suggest to a friend. He is not that helpful and goes through the material way too fast. If someone asks a questions, he cuts them off and makes the student feel like an idiot. It is possible to make a good grade in the class if you study a lot on your own.
I do NOT recommend taking this teacher. He's very rude, impatient, and fast paced. When you ask questions, he gets belligerent. When taking exams he wants you to show your work exactly how he teaches you to on notes.
Most of his lectures are of no help when doing the worksheets for the tests. No homework for Calc 1 and 2 when I had him. It's better to watch YouTube or form study groups to get an A or B in his class. And the Calc 2 final is harder than his 5 tests. I made 4/5 As on his tests; failed the last one. I got As for both Calc 1 and 2 with this guy.
I do NOT recommend taking this teacher at all. He becomes rude when you ask questions about what he's teaching. At first he made it seem like he would help us understand whatever he taught, but did the total opposite.
He isn't helpful at all and will treat you like you are dumb if you ask questions. He'll ask for answers in class and when you give a correct answer, will find something wrong with it and then proceed to claim that as the right answer just minutes later. Don't take him unless you want straight lectures with no help. Avoid him.
If you are good at math then take him, if not then don't. He is very particular about everything, from the way you fold your paper to the format you display your work. Things MUST be done EXACTLY as he says or else points are taken off.The way he explains things is, at most times, confusing. makes himself available. Take at your own risk.
Offensive, unhelpful, and arrogant.
I took PreCal, Cal I, and Cal II with him. His lectures are very dense in material. I was not able to follow in class most of the time, but the notes from the class were great for review later on. He was available to help during his office hours. I really liked his attitude and attention to detail. I felt like he was generous with the final grade.
He makes me fall in love with math. Great instructor!!!
He's a nice guy with an aggressive attitude. He wants to help you succeed by getting you to participate in class. If you pay attention, you should do well. He gives plenty of time for questions and review before tests, so take advantage.
The good comments on this professor are not true at all ! He is very offensive and when he wants students to participate the students participate but he ignores their response. I am failing right now I have not even taken the final exam yet but I am pretty sure of the outcome. He also does not give you a correct answer. DONT TAKE HIM!!!!
Hes very picky in the way that he grades. Its basically his way or the highway. However, if you pay attention in class, there's no way you won't get an A. The review sheet he gives before all his exams are the exact format of the exam itself. The only grades he takes are test grades, no homework grades. If you study you're bound to get an A.
What else is left to say about this guy? 1. He speaks to students like they have a PhD in mathematics. 2. Following his lectures will leave you exhausted and unsatisfied. 3. He genuinely seems to enjoy making you feel stupid for not knowing the subject, despite his shortcomings in actually teaching it. 4. He makes you feel stupid when asking a que
Thank goodness he is retiring. Seems like a nice man. End of the semester, and he has yet to learn most of our names. He would say he would cover something next class, but at the next class he lectures and gets mad that we do not know the things he said he would lecture on. Taught a lot of things that would not be on any tests. Frustrating. Rude.
Very bad at explaining the current subject and moves too fast paced to understand.
