he's good teacher, do not need to buy the books, just borrow at the libaray, very expensive. get to do the midterm report over if you got a bad grade.ended with a B

He is a very smart man with a lot of interesting opinions. He is genuinley concerned with his students' futures in higher education. He is always willing to speak to students during office hours to help them with problems, even if they are not about class

He loves history and drama! He loves to imitate the Godfather! I learned a lot, because I wanted to. As long as you visit his office hours, you will pass. Tests are easy: he gives you the definition and you write the term. Two 10 page research papers.

Well, if you don't want to write two ten-page papers, don't take Mr. Horlor. This was the slowest class I've ever taken. It feels like it lasts three days.

True he is a very smart man, but he is teaching us things that do not relate MEXICAN or MEXICAN AMERICANS. The class is just him talking and talking and talking. You take notes. You have to buy 5 books but never use them. Just buy, copy, and return.

Besides the two 10 page research papers you need to write he is easy. he gives you the answers for quizes and besides reading you don't have hwk. his lectures get boring sometimes.

he is one of those teachers you will remember, one of the people (along with the Dali Lami) I would invite to my ultimate dinner party. He is concerned about students educational future. You will learn a lot..do not tune him he is brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Horlor is by far a very intelligent professor. why he's at swc is beyond me. he requires two ten page papers and has tests. he has answers to nearly everything dealing with history and historical ideas and concepts, which primarily encompass many things.

Very intelligent teacher. not a difficult class, but you must apply yourself and do the work. Lots of people dropped his class, but they don't like to work hard. Take him, he'll prepare you for the real world and the university system.

One of my favorite teachers at southwestern. He gives out outlines on every single subject matter and then follows them in an interesting way... tends to ramble on about stuff... BUT I LIKE RAMBLING!!! He gives 2 10 page papers, that are not that bad...

PROF. Horlor has a great sense of humor, and that's essential in History. I must say it's not the most exciting subject. Hoever Horlor executes well. He gives you so many chances, so if you want humor in history then take him.

My favorite teacher sofar. theirs an outline that he follows and quizes are based on that. Two 10 page paper Tons of books...but u only need main one, the others u just use as reference so just borrow at the library.his rules reminds me of high school

The man is wonderful. He is clear, concise, and to the point. He is a personable, humorous man. All of his classes are conducted in the same matter: outlined notes, 4 or 5 easy quizzes, and 2 10 page papers for your midterm and final. GREAT professor! I took him for Hist 141 too!

This is one man who knows what he is talkig about. He is very understanding and gives you every opportunity to earn an A. If you are a History major you MUST take him and absorb his knowledge!!!

Absolutely, one of the best professors I have ever taken on this subject. He is unbiased, and honest. If you are truly serious about learning about your mexican roots than I honestly reccomend him. If you are **** and feel that a white man shouln't teach H142, then you're unworthy of his teachings

All I can say is that Prof. Horlor is one of the best history teachers I had at SWC. Now that I am At Cal State, I still think He is the best. If you really want to learn history without the BS of other history teachers, this is the one you want to have a class with. U will lern to reserach!

Horlor is one of the most sexy teachers ever and i find it hard to contol myself when he's around me.

This man knows his history, very intelligent. History classes can put you to sleep, this one is interesting.History is not a bore with Horlor.

Mr.Horlor know his stuff and teaches the facts clearly.He is genuinely interested in what he teaches.He one down side is he is highly opinionated as susch he tends to go off topic and preaches his own version of history and his political views quite often.My advice suck in the good discard the bad

TAKE GOOD NOTES and you will Ace all of the quizzes. two 10 page papers. he's a good teacher because he makes the class interesting and encourages students to do their best.

Take lots of notes and you will do great in his class. He is an excellent professor, he makes the class extremely interesting and fun!

I love this class. Horlor makes it really intresting. He really loves what he does and it show. I say everyone sould take him. Just remenbre to take notes.

I took his Hist100 and Hist106 classes. He can be a little intimidating but he is willing to help you all you need to do is ask. You take ALOT of notes in his class BUT his quizzes are EASY (if you take notes) and you have to write two 5-10 page papers. He really is knowlegdeable in the subject and his class is worth taking.

Awesome teacher, learned so much from him! Heard alot about him, that he's one that YOU SHOULD TAKE. He has a different attitude, different way of teaching, but I like!

I disagree that you do not need all of the books, well, only if you have no interest in actually reading them :-) If you read the books as assigned the quizzes are a breeze. Entertaining lecture from a man who has probably seen almost everything. He does expect you to read the syllabus and then do the reading on your own.

This teacher was very good, but very hard. If you just want a class you can breeze through and pass, this is NOT for you. Two 10-page papers and five quizzes. He offers extra credit, too, which is the only way I got an A. Very passionate and very knowledgable. Take him if you actually want to learn something about history.

Outstanding professor, but not easy. I learn more in his classes than I do from any other professor, including graduate school. Great teacher trying to help students learn enough to succeed in the future, but he expects work. Take him if you want to learn, but not if you want an easy A.

What an interesting class! Prof. Horlor really knows his stuff and actually makes history fun and interesting. Quizzes on each section based on notes (pay attention in class!) and 2 papers for midterm & final. Just follow the instructions and you will do well. I recommend him highly!

if you're a history major then this is the right class for u, its a bit hard but hes basically preparing u for what awaits u in a real college environment. this class requires a great deal of hard work. if ur totally not into history then ur probably gonna flunk, i initially struggled a lot but worked hard and i was ok. drop if u don't like history

Professor Horlor is an educator who will prepare you for university studies. Even if you are not a history major take his world history classes just to broaden your intellectual horizons. Not recommended for students who only go to school to pick up financial aid money or who otherwise have nothing better to do.

LOOK all of those kids who dropped out, you all are a bunch of half-assers!!! seriously!!!!!when i first entered the class, yes he seemed strict and boring, but trust me after 2 weeks, when everyone who was going to drop out, dropped out, he became the coolest guy in the world!!!!! funny!!! and he likes to sing in class

best teacher on the campus. if you want to learn, this is the class to take. he should be mandatory for hist majors. he requires a lot of time so only take him if you have a light class load. 2 10-page papers, 5 2-page papers, a crapload of reading, and a bunch of quizzes. his lectures are awesome though and family stories are great!

If you are not lazy take him. If you are interested in the humanities of the social science, take him. A lot of homework, quizzes, and especially, a lot of learning and fun.

is not for lazy people definetly, he makes you bought alot of books and he does makes you read them, many essays to do, it's a hard class but you definetly learn, is a good class for people who can;t memorize things, he makes opend book exams, he grades you with essays, and he gives you oportunities to revise it before you give the essay.

Very challenging but also interesting and rewarding. He knows his stuff and ecnourages different opinions. Tons of reading and writing are req. Don't fall behind or you're toast. Talk with him outside of class and he's cool. Great preparation for a University level course. Those that grade him low need to get real, this is college not high school

Mr. Horlor is not an easy class. I'm taking 20 units and his class makes me sacrafice a lot, but if you're looking to become sharp take this class. If you're a lazy piece of trash, you should not consider this class. Lots of reading and lots of critical thinking.

I took him two times. You do learn alot in his class. He's a great teacher, and he'll help you out. This class is not that hard you just have to pace yourself. This man prepares you to do university level work. Remember to read and annotate what you're reading. If you need help visit his office hour. He wants you to succeed.

This is one of my favorite teachers! I took all of my lower division History classes with him.

A lot of work but well worth it. Prof. Horlor will do whatever he has to, to help you pass with a decent grade. If you are eager to succeed, he is eager to help you. If you are just taking this class to get it out of the way but are not interested in learning or doing the work, he will ruthlessly weed you out. I loved him!! He was very REAL!

People say that he's the worse teacher, but he's actually one of the best teachers that I've ever had. A lot of students don't like him because he pushes them a lot and makes them work hard, but I assure you that when you finish his class, you will walk out of the door feeling accomplished.

This guy is a nut ball in class and isn't very organized but he knows his stuff, and you will learn a lot if you stick with it. Lots of reading and writing, I had more work in his class than 3 others I took combined. Don't expect an easy A or B, you will have to work to get a decent grade, but its worth it because he does prepare you to do well.

Very opinionated professor and also quite helpful if you're willing to stay after class during his office hours. VERY strick with grades (no curves)). Alot of tests, quizes, homework, reading and especialy essays. Excellent teacher if history is your major.

He's a good teacher, he's smart and has offered all kinds of help to students HOWEVER he made us get 5 text books.

I took him for summer and there was a lot, a lot of material. The class is not too hard and you do learn a lot. However, you need to read many books, write many essays, and take many quizes. Horlor will NOT give you an easy A, the only thing was that I dont think he grades the essays properly, and there was many complaints on this by all students.

This class is the whole nine yards. If you wish to pass, study and keep up with the high work load. If you like to procrastinate, you better get rid of that habit before you take this class. Otherwise, you will end up dropping or failing, good luck!

If you want to learn an unbelievable amount, and at the same time gain a useful and extremely helpful ally to help you along your college journey, Horlor is the BEST! His class is hard, and especially if taken during the summer, will consume you. But it's worth it!

if you are truly interested in this subject i would reccomened him. his class is very time consuming and takes a lot of work,you have to take really good notes and read every single text required; in the end you will become a better student. this was one of the most challenging classes i have taken

This class was just too hard mr. horlor is tremendously demanding and there is a lot but I mean a lot of work involved. I got a c in his class and honestly i deserved a B or even an A. There are other ways to get prepared for state and uc classes avoid this one.

Great class, i learned more than that just history

This class was not at all what I expected at the begining. As time went by, I discovered I made the correct decision by taking Mr. Horlor's class. He is one of the best professors I have had. This class involves a lot of reading (I read approx 5 books), non-multiple answer tests, and 10 pages papers. I can assure you I learned more than history.

He's really helpful, allows students to come by and talk just about anything. Although, he has low tolerance with students who don't want to learn. He gives out a lot of writing assignment, most of the tests & quizzes are hard whether its open book or not. He goes off topic, but it connects to history. For a summer course, it was really hard. 5 weeks with 4 papers and reading 5 different books. Plus 3 fill-in quizzes and 3 reading quizzes. It's impossible! If you want an easy grade, don't take him. I doubt I'll pass him, but we shall see.

I got my A, but I worked for it. Do the extra credit; study for the quizzes; and you'll be fine. And go to his office hours. You will learn some real history in his class. Most of my classmates struggled, though. Be prepared to write.

A very funny Teacher. Makes jokes at least every minute. He somehow tricks you into learning something very important by relating it to a joke. This professor is a great teacher and you should realize the packets and handouts he makes during his personal time. You will learn alot from this class and also he will prepare you for a year college.

do not take him. he is pretty funny, and drinks a 2L of pepsi every damn day. you really dont even need to show up to class to pass. his essays (all 5 of em at least 3 pages +) are not talked about at all in class. its completly pointless. just study for the vocab quizzes and do the EC or good luck

The most challenging class I have ever taken. That being said, Professor Horlor taught me more than any other class. The study habits and critical thinking skills he helped to instill in me have proven invaluable at the university level.

So far the most influential teacher at SWC. There is a lot of work that will require you to read &write a whole lot but he will help you with anything you need. His lectures go out of subject and he gives a lot of papers but if you study with the guides he gives you, you'll be fine. Class is challenging but will set you on the correct mindset.

prof. horlor is such a funny man and you really do get a lot out of him from his lectures in class.he's nice and would help you out with anything you need especially during his office hours.just take notes and read the books and chapters assigned and you will get a decent grade in the class,but essays are a bit hard so you really need to study hard

He is very blunt about things he mentions about both history and the government, and makes everyone realize that history is ery enriching.Hard essays,but if you talk to him during his office hours, he'll help you.He's such a caring guy as well because he really wants everyone to pass just talk or see him if anything!totally recomm.

The best professor that I ever had. Took his History 104 class in the Fall of 1990 in my first year of college, and it really set a positive tone for the rest of my career. Wonderful, bright, and very helpful instructor. The students that are leaving negative comments are just lazy students that do not want to work hard to earn their grade.

Really helpful if you go to office hours. Very easy tests if you study. The papers he assigns have nothing to do with what we talk in class. I honestly think 10 pages is too for what he wanted us to do. There just isn't much to write about and you end up paraphrasing everything which pisses him off.

Some things taught in class won't really help with completing course work; just be sure to read books assigned and be prepared to write good papers. Very knowledgeable, but not an easy class. 15 out of 45+ finished course. A lot of reading and very detailed papers required, but gives lots of extra reading material to help. You will Learn a lot if your into history and reading.

He is very interesting, even if you end up not getting a decent grade you will have interesting things swarming through you head. Id recommend taking his class during election time, he will tell you all you need to know about the candidates. overall his class is HARD! but fun. he likes singing songs pertaining to the time hes teaching, it awsome!

Best teacher ever. At first he can be a little intimidating but in reality he is as sweet as sugar. Very intelligent man whose only purpose is to help you develop. I highly recommend this class. Very hard class however it is easy to pass if you attend class, do the work, do the extra credit, and ask for help. :)

He provides better education than most of what you can find in university. He is a true scholar and can elaborate on any subject of interest. The work is challenging but he manages to make himself available to help every student improve and get a better understanding of the subject matter.

Being honest when i say this, Professor Horlor is one of the best teachers i ever had. This class is not an easy A, the work is challenging and hard. But, with that being said, the things you learn in this class are definitely applicable to your college/academic career. Lots of writing and in order for you to past the test you must study!

Prof. Horlor is probably the best teacher I've ever had. He is incredibly bright, and is always willing to help when needed. He offers office hours and a lot of extra credit essays. His class made me practice a lot of writing which I hadn't done in a while, and I'm sure this was really helpful for my academic future. He's also very funny, take him!

Totally recommend this course! He is very helpful and knowledgeable, but you need to do the work. As long you study for the quizzes, prepare for your papers, and do extra credit essays, you should be able to get an A.

Even that his class is so hard you can easily get a good grade if you do your work, a lot of essays and readings. Be sure to be on time the first day or he will drop you from the class.

Extremely disorganized which makes it difficult to keep track of what's going on. Required 3 books and we didn't even use any of them except for extra credit. Quizzes are too difficult. Gives too many packets. Fails to understand that we're not all history majors and that most of us are just taking this class because it's a requirement.

Tough professor! Really makes you work, several quizzes and few research papers. Good lectures but can get distracted at times. Other than that be prepared to get many speeches on other stuff not pertaining the class. Other than that you will learn some good history lessons.

BEST professor I've ever had! He's historian & scholar, 30 yrs experience, methodical. Reading & writing skills a must, 2 succeed: U need 2 go C him @ office hours, show interest, avoid cockiness, he's quick to knock U down from cloud 9. Horlor is a professor that you will either love or hate. His lectures are very entertaining and full of content. Reading the text in his class is a must. Also review all the terms that he assigns in the booklet before each tests. Make sure to go to the Writing Center to get revisions on your historiography research paper. Don't miss class either.

affordable books! & gives detailed instructions so theres no room to leave mistakes or it's your own fault. Wants you to give your best work & lets you improve grade. However, if you have a question,he makes you ask it during his office hours which is a huge inconvenience & doesn't promote class discussions. Mainly lecture. LOTS of deep reading!

He's a really great professor and really opened my eyes to how history really was rather than what we learn in jr. high school. He gives really great feedback, although he might seem scary at first, he's really nice when u get know him. But don't get me wrong, he WILL make you work for ur grade! So if ur lazy, you're not gonna survive!
