He is a very hard teacher to learn from. He is way to smart to be teaching a class like this. He sits around and makes formulas for fun and has all of the books he teaches out of memorized and its quite annoying.
He is a very bad teacher. Loves to preach at students for half of class, then ends up holding them late so he can finish the lecture. If you want a good grade in a hard class, don't take him. One good thing, he claims to be into teaching, not grading, so trys to help the strugglers make good grades
Horrible teacher! Avoid him at all cost!
Extremely caring teacher. He will help you with ANYTHING but it is your responsibility to seek help. If you attend class and do the homework you will get an excellent grade. He will work with you on grades, he wants to see effort so you have to show it. I recommend him to all business majors that HAVE to take this course, he makes it relevent.
Alright, he showed up to our final an hour late! He claims to have gone to bed on Tuesday and woke up on Thursday thinking it was Wed. Horrible teacher, half of his work on blackboard was completely wrong. In the words of Mr. Ingle, "You would be fired for that!"
He seems like a good teacher at first, but makes the class very difficult. He'd rather talk about himself and how much he knows about everything than help the students learn. When students try to be involved and ask questions about the assignment, he often belittles them by telling them he learned this in elementary. Bad teacher...avoid him!
He is a pretty good teacher. Plus, it doesn't hurt that basically the whole class is on the internet. He's a really cool guy that will help you out if you want it.
Mr. Ingle is very helpful and friendly. Sometimes there was too much homework, but I found it to help me in the long run. Thanks!
I did not like this teacher at all because his teaching style is so confusing and not helpful with the homework assignments. I dropped his class after a week. I am so glad to see that most everyone else agrees with me. He would just get off track and talk about other things besides calculus with the limited time we had. STAY AWAY!
completely awful. You might as well sign up for this class on the internet. Because that is what this class is. this class was a complete waste. I strongly advise do not take from him. you will regrete it. Mr. Ingle = complete joke.
ingle rocks. he is really laid back and will do anyhting in his power to help you understand. he knows the class is hard, so if you try really hard and stick it out you will get a good grade. you jsut can't be afraid of some hard work.
Was kind of all over the place in teaching. He is considerate that math is not for everyone however. Lets you retake tests and curved the final, just didn't explain how or even tell us he was going too. If you show lots of effort and improvement he'll pass you.
If you are taking 100 level math classes I would not recommend this professor because yes he does tend to go off on tangents. However, if you are taking diff eq or linear, I would highly advise you to take his class because he is excellent at clearly explaining key concepts as they pertain to real-life situations if you are willing to pay attention
Dr. Ingle made the subject MUCH harder than it should have been. His tests are inconsistent with the work done in class and mostly over theories instead of applications. He returned our first test the day after drop-day. He embarasses students who ask questions/make comments. He grades VERY HARD! You either get all the points or 0-1 point.
Ingle is awesome! I learned more in this class than any of the other calc or trig classes at WSU mostly because the instructors are not near as good. I enjoyed every class and i learned so much. I now want to pursue a math degree thanks to Mr. Ingle. He is very helpful and if you are willing to work you will learn so much. I would take Ingle anyday
This is the worst math teacher ever. We took 3 tests in his class and the average scores were 40%,42%, and 52%. He claims to grade very easy...lol. No one understands him and the people who do...already understand the subject prior to his class. This is the teacher that makes waiting to take this class w. someone else worth the wait.
Honestly, he's one of the best profs I've had, and I don't understand why he would receive negative reviews. Just stick it out, pay attention, show a strong work ethic and you'll be rewarded. He'll honestly pass you no matter how well you do on the tests, as long as you do the hw. If you do the matlabs, you might even get a B or A.
His teaching and grading methods are questionable. Most of the class have problem understanding the material. Many people wait after class just to ask him to clarify his grading. I should have looked at this website before taking his class.
Late for class. Late for Midterm. Got defensive when you asked for your grade. Proud that the class average was 60%. Defensive when people asked questions about homework after he asked if we had any homework questions. Didn't help that webassign is a complete joke.
Awful teacher. Either he has no passion for the subject, or just doesn't like teaching it. Ridicules students who ask questions, it was kind of surreal. Homework was pretty much worthless, since the assigned material didn't match up to the stuff on the tests at all. Avoid taking anything from him. Arrasmith is a far better choice for Discrete Math.
Terrible teacher, always late to class. Never taught from the book and no one had any idea where he was teaching from. Very inconsistent. I would recommend finding someone else to take the class from.
Great teacher! This is the guy you want to take this class from if you are an Engineering major. Gives real world examples of the math you are learning which makes it alot easier to understand. This is a tough class and he holds you to high expectations but do your best and if he notices your really trying you'll pass the class.
Worst teacher ever. Marks off points for stupid reasons; when you bring it to his attention, he usually gives it back, but it sucks having to fight for a point you've already earned. He expects you to be able to do mathematical proofs without giving you the tools to be able to do them well.
DO NOT take any classes with this teacher. Grades really hard . Gives a lot of homework and the tests are extremely hard and are nothing like the reviews he gives. He is super late grading. the average for my class was 56%. his feedback is worthless and he doesn't show you how to do a problem, but instead says" this is completely wrong". Pathetic
Worst teacher I have had thus far. I am usually an A/A- student, but he did not teach during the class period. If you ask questions he will belittle you. If you can wait until a grad student is teaching Trig, take it from them! I feel like Ingle leads you to believe you are doing okay and it will be fine if you mess up, but you will fail.
Pros: Bill knows his stuff very well, plus he knows how it applies to the real world in detail, he can do calculus in his sleep, write problems on the board quickly, and he grades if students should have known the material before coming to his class. Cons: Bill does not explain essential steps and leaves out a lot of details that definitely matter
This is one of the worst professors I have ever taken and I have been at Wsu for over 5 years. He likes to always show how much he knows and his exams are ridiculous hard. I had to drop due it being so difficult
Just awful. Would rather talk about random trivia than teach. Unprepared; spend 15 minutes every class setting up and dealing with laptop issues, which he could have done before class. Was impatient and condescending when asked to clarify a concept. Avoid if at all possible.
Dr Ingle is NOT a bad teacher and I dont understand all his bad ratings. Your final grade is a direct reflection on the work you put in. That being said, if you want an easy A, do not take his class. However, if you want to learn the subject and put in the time and effort, you will get an A. He is always willing to help if he sees you trying.
Selects homework problems that always have multiple sections turns a 1 hour homework into a 2.5 hour homework. Grades Tests Really hard
This professor make you work hard, but if you pass the class you will improve in knowledge about all mathematics
This class was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. His lectures were often rushed and off topic, and he was frequently rude and sarcastic to students, discouraging many of us from asking questions. He was horrible at gradingreturning homework, and although his tests were easy, it was not worth it. I would NEVER recommend him to anyone.
He's not a bad teacher and I actually liked him. But he teaches the class as if most of us already knew Linear Algebra. No, most of us are being introduced to the subject. Most of the class ended up dropping. For the people who didn't drop, the class average was 48%(whalf 41 or under). A 70% was only curved up to a B+.
Ingle leaves the mechanistic problem-solving practice to the textbook. Attendance is not required, however lectures are filled with useful conceptual foundations for those who plan to apply calculus. Test questions are easy but are graded judiciously. Final grade assigned reflects attendance, participation, effort and improvement.
Great guy overall. Do all your assignments and you will pass as long as you try. The class was difficult, but overall it was not a hard A for me.
While he is brilliant with math, he doesn't connect his lectures with his students. Very few understood the concepts and he would lose the class often. The homework was fairly light but he assigns the harder questions. He grades test quite tough, but in the end a large part of the grade is to turn everything in. Don't expect it to be graded though.
Dr. Ingle isn't a bad professor. The problem with his class is that it is never clear how your doing. While individually good, the homework, lectures, and tests could all be taught by different professors they are so unrelated. If you need help, he is very encouraging, but will hold you to very high standards. I would only recommend for math majors
Ingle is a nice person, but he needs to improve on his teaching method. He'll first take at least 10 minutes to set up his teaching equipments for his online students, then he'll show you his way of doing the assignments. Then, he'll make his exam question too vague.
No syllabus, very unprepared, I didn't know any of my grades (except 1 homework) until final grades were due. For a 3 credit class you feel like you do more work than regular 5 credit Calc 2 b/c you do everything same PLUS learn how to use Matlab and program it all . Would only recommend if you've taken a programming course and got a B in Calc 1
Dr. Ingle doesn't enjoy teaching as much as showing off what he knows. He is extremely inept at conveying concepts in a clear manner. He mocks students who wait until last minute to finish homework, yet waits until the very end of the semester to grade anything. I'm sure he doesn't even realize what a debilitating ordeal his classes are.
The standard solving problems don't take that much time, but he makes you proof why you have your answer during the test which will take the entire test! Lecture are fairly understandable. He grades the HW by himself, so you won't even get them back until few week after the exam is over. So you won't know what you did wrong until after the exam. :(
Why are they giving him all these sections? Absolutely horrible person and teacher. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
Returns the H W very late. A lot of students are afraid to ask questions because of his intimidating personality. Avoid!
I would not take any course with this guy ever. Although I did okay, it was only because I taught myself everything. Goes over crucial concepts very fast and was not helpful . He says he wants you to ask questions but its not true, try going to his office a couple of times and you will see. A very fake person.
Speak the Language or at least TRY I took and failed Diff Eq (one was a drop) 4 other times with 3 other professors (Davis, Tran, & Russian guy) and Ingle was the first person to teach it where I actually understood what was going on. You will only pass if he see how hard you are trying and if you actually show up, and give at least 80% effort.
I did not learn anything from Mr. Ingle, he is so rude and sarcastic that I felt extremely stressed in his presence :(
Probably the worst prof I've had. Runs through concepts and doesn't provide any clear notes on solving anything. Expects us to prove tedious theorems as opposed to other lecturers who base their questions off the homework problems. Definitely avoid at all cost.
Please avoid taking any class with him. You will literally never get your hw back . I got some of my hw assignments on the review day before final exam literally! You won't know your progress till the end of the semester.
Hang on until the end. The only grade he really cares about is the final, so don't panic if you do poorly on tests/quizzes or get them back late. With that said, he expects you to really know what you're talking about when it comes to the subject. I received failing or nearly failing grades on everything besides the final, and still received an A.
Dr. Ingle seems like a nice guy, but thats where the good ends. He is very unorganized and never seems prepared for class, and gives no feedback on your progress through the semester. He also does an awful job of conveying concepts in a clear way, rarely does example problems, and when he does do examples theyre almost always wrong.
Mr. Ingle does not do a good job of teaching math. It feels like he just talks to himself about what he knows for an hour, rather than actually trying to teach the students what it all means, and he does it way too fast. He never grades anything either, so we are halfway through the semester and I have no idea where I am at in the class.
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS W/ THIS PROFESSOR! All the grading criteria for your grade in the syllabus is completely false. He didn't put in the grade for our first test until AFTER the withdrawal deadline. He was very unclear on how the weekly quizzes affected us, turns out they don't. On the final he said we would recognize every problem, also false.
Dr. Ingle is an amazing mathematician, but probably the worst teacher I have ever encountered. He is terribly unprepared and disorganized. He would switch test and quiz dates the day of class. He also thinks it is okay to disrupt his OWN tests by talking the entire time. Additionally, I never received any of my tests or homework back for the semest
Very intelligent guy. I really enjoyed having conversations with him about math. As a professor though, he is lazy with returning assignments and tests. The semester's over, and I still haven't gotten back any quizzes or HW. Brags in class. Funny to nerds. He knows what he's talking about. Expects you to know your stuff, and he isn't easy at all.
Please avoid taking Diff Eq with this horrible excuse of an instructor. You won't get your HW back until after the test date. He lacks a clear grading criteria and goes over things too fast. I have tried getting help in his office hours but he kept on trying to rush me and it was very clear he does not want you to attend his office hours!!!! AVOID!
He is VERY smart but a terrible professor . HE doesn't follow the book at all uses his own short cuts which makes it very diffcult to learn anything outside of class. you will also not get your tests back until dead day. BUT the final is the old tests i literally failed every test and got a B on the final which means i got a B in the class
This is one professor you'll need to be able to listen and write at the same time. I enjoyed taking his class and how he treats his students like a human beings, not just a number. His homework counts toward your test scores, which are worth the majority of your grade, and the Final will be your grade if you preform well.
Everything online due to Covid. He adjusted quickly and listened to all students. 4 exams, 10 quizzes, and 10 homework. Homework considered extra credit towards quizzes. He had amazing online notes for all sections and mentioned applications for all concepts in lecture. He's used these concepts in engineering field! Approachable! Overall good time.
A very caring instructor! Class was a lot of work but also learned a lot.
I can tell that he cares, but he gives soo much work. The book has to be bought online from a specific website. He listens and helps with any questions or concerns. The quizzes and exams take a lot of time.
Is a great professor, but does very little to accommodate to the needs of students. Sometimes so little he will argue his side into the ground.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Only final exam will be graded. None of the 11 quizzes, 12 homeworks, or 3 prior exams will be graded or returned. Homework unnecessarily long. Prof claimed all questions on final exam would come from first 3 exams. That was a lie. Offers minimal help during office hours. Do NOT sign up for his classes.
Great lectures, makes the math come alive, plenty of applied material. I really understand the concepts, so glad I took his class! Has a sarcastic sense of humor, but only wields it against students who are being difficult in the classroom. Your final grade is the final exam, averaged with any assignments that improve your grade over the final.
Ingle only cares about the in class final exam. Ingle emphasizes your mastery of the material, and if you do so, then the final exam really won't be hard. Linear algebra is an easy topic in mathematics; the applications are nearly endless. To pass try to get an intuitive geometric understanding of every topic and read a lot more than just the book!
Ingle is a very good man and really cares about his students. He's not good about grading in a timely manner but will do what he can to meet a student's needs. A lot of homework but hes willing to answer any questions and work out problems. Calc 3 is a tough class if you have trouble working in three dimensions.
This professor should be fired ... he changed the grading criteria halfway thru the semester since he can't trust his TA's to accurately grade the weekly quizzes. final is worth 70%, attendance 10%, and a handful of quizzes worth 20% ... he thinks highly of himself and dehumanizes students. never in my entire life will i be taking from stupid ingle
He takes a long time to get assignments and tests graded. This leaves you wondering what your progress is for most of the semester. He is VERY smart and knowledgeable. Participate in the online chat. Assigns a lot of HW and it difficult to keep up with his lectures.
Prof is clearly very intelligent and knowledgeable, but lectures are worthless. Thank god the textbook is actually good, because you're going to have to read it to understand what's going on. 4 assignments and 2 discussion board posts a week. In class and take home portion for each test. Final test is the only grade that really matters.
The professor is knowledgeable, but did not convey the information in a way that was easily understandable. He took a long time to grade tests and projects, so it will take a while until you know your grade in the class. There were 4-5 homework assignments each week, a project every other week, and 2 discussion board posts every week.
I would AVOID this professor for sure. Calculus 3 could not have been harder. TONS of homework. You have to do long WebAssigns, Written Homework, a really biased discussion board where he may or may not count your post, and Exam are very extensive and deep for no reason what so ever. On top of this he was very rude in my opinion one of the worst.
Definitely not an easy A but if you take linear algebra with Ingle you will learn a ton. The first two exams will be insanely difficult but if you study hard all semester the final will not be too bad and that is mostly what your grade is based on anyways. I could tell that he cares a lot about his students.
His online course is bad. You have to use 4 separate applications just to submit your weekly homework(Blackboard,Microsoft Teams,Discussion forum, and Webassign). For Calc3 we had two submit a minimum of 3 entries a week on the discussion forum,Two assignments on web assign, and one group assignment a week on Microsoft teams. Would not recommend!
Avoid at all costs this teacher has no idea how online education works.
Ingle's organization skills are definitely lacking; you won't get most of your grades back until the end of the semester (I'm missing 4 exam grades). He can be rude sometimes. the only thing saving most of the students is his grading scale (60% ended up being homework/participation). Definitely better options out there.
I enjoyed Ingle's lectures, as he often connected concepts to STEM fields. He's very knowledgeable, but sometimes his expectations felt too advanced, especially during Chapters 3-5 while I was in Calc 1. However, he's understanding with take-home tests, and as long as you finish the homework by December 6th, you should pass.
Professor Ingle does not grade assignments in a timely manner whatsoever. He did not even get around to grading at least 4 different exams. However, the exams he did grade he graded decently lightly, plus, if you do well on the in class and take home final he will ignore all other exam grades. Lot's of tedious online homework. Not a horrible class.
He has a problem with dumbing things down especially for freshman, he thinks you'll understand it first try. He's tests are also very difficult, I even had Junior and Seniors who passed Diff EQ with A's struggle to understand what he was asking for on the tests. He's also very slow at grading.
No matter what you do, take this class with a different professor, he was a very unfair grader, seemed to have no clue how to teach this course, and made it much harder to pass than it needed to be, not to mention he changed the grading every other week.
Ingle is not a good lecturer. He expects for everyone to retain every single thing he mentions and does not like being corrected. There's a lot of assignments and he does not follow the syllabus so you'll never know what grade you'll get until the final grades are in. EXTREMELY TOUGH GRADER and GRADES EVERYTHING SO LATE. I don't recommend at all!
Took him for my Calc 2 class and he wasn't the easiest to get the hang of but if you attend all the classes and do the discussion board and homework that alone guaranteed me an B, excluding the final, if you're determined and just put in effort you'll definetly get the A even if you fail the tests if youre improving hell willingly disregard them.
Avoid this guy. Its crazy how he has so much power at WSU for mathematics. He is pretty mean and gives a ton of homework. Math takes practice but there is no need to give web assigns, written homework, written quizzes, online discussions, heavy take home exams. Like bro we have other classes too lol take any math course with Nathan Thompson instead
By far, the WORST WSU professor I ever had. Lots of homework: cengage online, written projects, weekly discussion boards posts, and take home tests. Expects students to find info about course in forum instead of posting it. Very late grader or doesn't grade things at all (8 ungraded tests/hw when grades were due). Can be quite rude and inflexible.
Dr. Ingle's syllabus did not reflect the course structure and grading policies he used, and he failed to clarify when asked. Online homework often contained content we did not discuss in class. Lectures felt poorly planned and were hard to follow. It took him 9 weeks to grade our midterms. He knows the subject, but I wish he taught it better.
Now I understand why math is considered a nerdy subject. Notes consist of a bunch of terms and derivations than actual math. Boring, just show me the technique to solve. I don't need the run down of how we got there.
This guy is a joke. Discussion posts weekly, must make 4 per week or you won't make the 30 by the end of the course. 6 HW assignments due Mondays and Thursdays, and a problem set that takes 2 hours, due each week. Breaks the exams up into a take-home and in-person portion. The take-home exam is 9-pages long with a majority consisting of proofs.
Half of the class is reasonable (the first half), but vector spaces, sub spaces, span and other concepts would be better understood with numerical examples. The 2nd half of the class is like going down a rabbit hole as to why 1+1=2. This course is a mathematician's shower thoughts. Less variables, more numbers please!
This is by far the worst professor I have had. Grading is unfair and problem instructions aren't reflective of how they're graded. When asked for clarification he is rude and unhelpful. Course content isn't hard but when completing an assignment as instructed you can expect a 50% or lower. Also blatantly lied about what would be on the final
Genuinely a terrible professor. Expects 30 discussion posts, except he'll ignore questions he doesn't wanna answer, blame students for his mistakes for "not following up" on something he forgot, or gives demeaning replies. Said the final would be comprehensive then had the majority of it over the last chapter. Luckily he adjusts grades at the end.
Do NOT take this professor for Linear Algebra! Avoid at all costs! For one problem where I explained in so much detail, I was only given"why?"as feedback, and quite literally next to it I had wrote,"the reason why..."got a 5/10 for that problem. Very tough grader w/no good feedback. Only halfway through summer semester, probably will end up failing
I'm just here to keep confirming all the other reviews of students saying this class is terrible lol and just to be clear it is the professor who just doesn't understand the college student. Avoid Ingle at all cost, it is even worth waiting another semester to take a math course. You will dread his class. He for some reason has zero respect.
I took Mr. Ingle for Calculus 2. Take any other professor for this course. Also just avoid online math courses at all costs. This course is extremely difficult and test heavy. Must get a 50% or better on final or you fail the class. Many students didn't even show up for the final. Mr. Ingle is very smart and knows his stuff, just not a good teacher
