A great professor. He wants his students to do well, and he grades on improvement. I'm not saying this class is a breeze, but I think he has got to be one of the best RHT 160 professors.
He grades a little hard, but he lets you re-write all papers. Class is a cake-walk b/c you just form a circle and talk all hour! Great class to go to.
This is a great professor to take, especially if you are dreading taking rhetoric. All the assignments can be rewritten and he is always available for help if you need it. You do have to show up for class regularly, but all you do is sit and talk!

talk about social constructionism and write very few papers. not a bad prof.
My favorite teacher so far. He teaches in a way that makes class fun. Take class if you are comfortable in group discussion. Great guy, recommend to all.
wow...this guy is amazing!! he really makes you think about life...plus, you can rewrite all your essays, so you should be able to get a 4.0
Take this class if you are strict liberal who enjoys listening to extremely biased liberal views. I do not recommend taking a class with him early in the morning because it will put you to sleep. Goofy sense of humor can almost be annoying at times.
Very interesting class. CLass discussion is interesting every day and sometimes gets a little too intense. I remember a fight that broke out between a baseball player and a weight lifting champion. Fun class and great prof.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS MAN. Everyday we formed a circle & he asked what we did. He grades strict but lets you re-write. I got a 3.3. Cool Prof.
He was a very good teacher, talked about things in our everyday lives. The topics for the papers can be a little hard to think about but easy once you get started, and he lets you do rewrites.

Pretty good teacher, class is on the boring side its all based on theory.
Very nice, talks about many interesting theories and ideas. Very hard grader however, and topics of essays can be difficult to begin, however he allows rewrites which can be a blessing. Always willing to help
Hard teacher, but lets you re-write papers as many times as needed. Great topics of discussions and no homework. He is somewhat bias but overall decent teacher.
Wonderful teacher, very nice & helpful!!! He really cares about his students. He lets you re-write all of your parents, but he is a very tough grader. Take advantage of the opportunity to re-write them!!!
Very good teacher. You talk about a topic in class for at least a week, then you write an essay about the topic. He still gives you quite a bit of freedom on choosing what to write about. Class discussions are interesting and he grades fairly. I would recommend him.
He is really nice and he will work with you if you give him the chance. He was great when there was a death in my family and I missed class. He lets you rewrite any paper, just make sure your topic is shortened. You talk about things then write on what you discussed that week.
he is a very good teacher but talks alot during class which is very boring but no hw and if u put some effort into the class you will do fine
He's a cool prof. Definitely boring at 8am though. This class isn't so much the teacher as it is the other students in the class. All the ones in mine are opinionated conservatives, but they keep the class interesting. Semi hard grader but no midterm or final!!
Very nice but strict grader
Really good teacher. Conversations are always interesting and opinionated. Fair grader. Only 4 papers...and you can always rewrite them.
this class is pretty interesting. 4 papers to write, you can re write them if you arent happy with the grade. the****ty part is having resources. discussion topics are repetative and get boring if you dont care. but i suggest participating cuz that helps your grade.
Wonderful man! His classes are boring cuz all you do is sit in a circle and talk, but thats what you write your papers about Can rewrite any paper which is awesome..talk in class and it seriously helps your grade out...i went from a 3.2 to a 3.5
Professor Rouster is an awesome guy! His classes are deathly boring but you write your papers on the discussion topics (which are really repetitive) so in a way it helps. He'll answer any of your questions and there are only 4 papers to write. Which you can rewrite if you choose. I recommend!
Very nice guy... he is a teacher because he wants to be one which is good. Some classes are interesting, others are boring. Talk a lot and you get extra credit. There are only four papers and you can rewrite them all if you want. I recommend him, but if you are a dumbass, you might only get 3.0.
He has good topics but are based on his opinions. papers needs to be written so that he will like them, and not by what you believe in.
I would recommend taking this teacher if you like to having class discussions. Most of class time is spent on sharing thoughts and opinions about controversial topics. It really helps with in depth thinking.
He has some interesting topics of discussion and he's a very nice man. The only thing is that sometimes the discussion drags on longer than it needs to.
Very liberal in his thinking, which was hard for a conservative like myself. But he's still very intresting and will listen to your opinion. He's also a car guy which is nice because he actually knew what I was talking about in my papers
Spend almost all of class time having discussions about how society plays a role in our lives. He's a nice guy but grades a little hard. You can get a 3.0 or higher with some work. He mostly marks down for not having stuff organized and explained well enough. Make sure you talk during discussions.
I put a lot of time and effort into the 3 papers he assigned all semester, and I probably averaged a 3.0 on them. But, I put good chunks of my week/weekends into those papers. Put a lot of effort into everything you do, and you will be okay.
Overall, he was pretty good. He grades harder than I expected him to, but he also allows you a lot of time to revise your papers for a better grade. He definitely makes you think about the topics you have to write about. I'd recommend him if you're a strong writer...or you believe in second chances.
Everything you write will be graded down on a lack of clarity and organization, but you won't have any idea how to improve in those areas. Be thrilled if you get a 3.3 in the class.
easy class, all u do is talk about what u did on the weekend n what u plan on doin n he talks about him family alot, which wastes alot of time. u only get 4papers that u can redo if u dont like the grade but wen u get out of the class u r goin 2 HATE social constructionism, doxa, orthodoxy, heterodoxy n food n bait n crit of crit but an easy class
THIS GUY SHOULD START HIS OWN TALK SHOW. because thats what he does best. but honestly, this is a guy who really knows his stuff, and is interested in making sure you do too. i enjoyed his "lectures" that were more like conversations the most. you can re-do your papers until the end of the semester. easy course.... highly rec'd. i took for 150&160.
He is a very nice guy. His class is pretty easy. However, he really tries to shove allot of his oppinions down your throat with articles from the 80's that don't apply today. If you challenge him he will only ignore your question. However, he likes people who stands up for what they believe in, and he is a very good teacher.
Very good teacher, and very helpful. The papers are on topics that are hard to grasp, but he answers any questions and has office hours that he can help you during. It's awesome that you waste the first half of class just talking about your week and weekend and about the most random stuff; it makes the class go by so much faster!
Professor Rouster was a really good teacher. He's very easy to understand and to get along with. You can redo all your papers. Most time is spent on talking about what your plans are for the weekend. The rest of the time is spent in a circle talking about the stuff in the course pack. Very passable class. I took him for 150 & 160.
Professor Rouster is really cool. You talk about what you are going to do on the weekend and half way interesting stuff. He lets you redo all the papers if you get bad grades. The worst part is the final paper though it has to be so long and it's pretty stupid. Overall, he's not THAT hard of a grader. I got a 3.3.
Very nice guy...His class is very easy. Talks a lot, somtimes a little boring. I love the fact that you do not have to buy a book, just a packet that was about 10.00. The only falt is he is a hard grader. I had to write all the 4 total papers over at least once.
really great teacher. he genuinely cares about his students. very kind man. cheap class (8 dollar coursepack and 12 dollar book). class is sometimes hard to sit through early in the morning if you don't get enough sleep... but usually he an interesting lecturer because he tries his best to relate the material to the students' lives. fairly easy
he is so boring, it is hard to pay attention in class. he is an easy teacher but he is unconciously ****. his ideas are always best. veryyyy liberal. if you can put up with his constant rambeling its a half way decent class
An extremely boring & liberal teacher. He grades too hard and talks too much. You never get out of class early and you have to have "circle time". I thoroughly regret taking this class. If it wasn't for attendance, I would not attend this class. It's a waste of my time and life. You write papers on stupid theories you don't understand.
Love this guy!! hes definitely the best prof ive had. very fair excellent discussions. really fun classes. gets you interested in the topic being discussed. has you write about 4-5 papers throughout the semester not that difficult. little to no homework. I would highly recommend Prof Rouster for anyone taking Rhetoric A++++
Just write your papers like a left wing nut job and you will get a good grade
He is really helpful and is a pretty easy grader. He lets you rewrite all your papers and there is about 4 fairly easy ones in the semester. Class you sit around and talk about life basically, it is a great class definitely take him!
Very nice guy! Always comes to class happy and IS interested in what's going on in the student's lives. For 160, all we did was read a short book and write a synopsis, as well as write four papers, including the final 10 page paper. He lets you rewrite ALL of your papers! No other assignments or HW! :) Highly recommend
THE BEST!!.... if there is one proffesor to take for wrt 160 its him!! hes so easy and nice and you can have a real conversation with him. you write 4 papers about 4-5 pages each and the final is 10 pages. you can rewrite papers and if u need help u can go to him. i got an A, i wish i can take more classes with him!
Nice guy I suppose but can get a little self- righteous at times when it comes to opinions on American's or the intelligence of his students. I'm not a fan. I feel uncomfortable in his class.
Very good professor, knows what he is discussing and knows interesting topics to keep teh class thinking. however, most topics are boring and essays are graded hard, however, revise youre paper at least 3 times and your bound to get a good paper
Professor Rouster is a very political-based professor. All of our papers had something to do with politics. The lectures were very boring, and often quiet, but he tries his best to get everyone involved. Only five papers the entire semester, and an easy topic for the final paper. His grading is easy, and he lets you rewrite bad papers. Good choice.
Very kind, caring guy. Also quite easy as you're allowed to re-write every paper once!! It is a quite involving class which is a good thing and the lectures are deep and interesting but can get boring if people don't speak up and he has a quiet voice. But GREAT professor, but I do agree he can be biased.
He is really nice and is really easy on papers. You get to rewrite them all once no matter what grade you got. not many papers at all, but the class is really boring as all we did was talk the whole time about random topics. He can be a little biased politically but what professor isn't.
Great professor, tries to get everyone involved with classroom discussions even though it is sometimes boring. Only have to write 5 papers and you are allowed to re do all of them. Very caring and kind-hearted. Has a sense of humor and hes very laid back.
Overall, good professor! You only write 5 essays on real world topics. Ours were on: politics, gender, homosexuality, poverty, and a life event of our choice. All papers can be rewritten for a better grade. In class time is just spent having class discussion. If it is a MW class, then on Friday you do a very short activity on Moodle. Finished w 3.7
great guy i am a junior at ou, and he is the best teacher i have had to date. would love to take another class with him
awesome prof. classes are discussion and then you write an essay every 2 weeks. lets you rewrite every essay once to improve grade. can be boring at times. fair grader and always responds to emails and is willing to meet outside of class. would recommend to everyone
I thought he was a very awesome professor. He is easy to talk to and understanding. He loves talking about politics and if you don't like that subject it is very boring and useless. We had many class discussions but, very light homework and grades essays tough.
Professor Rouster is super laid back and a really nice guy. He's very understanding and helpful when it comes to writing essays and his essay topics were very easy. He also didn't require long essays and we had really easy blog posts. It's an easy going class and he's really cool.
Rouster is great! He is so nice and really likes politics (he's 100% democrat by the way). He is very clear on what he expects on all papers. We wrote half the amount of papers as all the other classes too. The online Moodle forums get annoying after a few weeks, but they are extremely easy and are mostly opinion based! Also, no Friday classes! :)
I hate english classes. I always have. But I really enjoyed this class. He's a great prof and made class very interesting
Great guy, really gets to know students on a personal level, cracks terrible jokes but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM
he is REALLY into political topics, pretty much everything you will have to research are about politic and it will make you feel sleepy :)) but out of all he is a nice professor and willing to explain your answers until you get it
For the class, you will write about 3-4 papers 4-5 pages long. Overall, the course is not bad. But, the online component makes it tedious. You are required to login every weekend and submit a post (which does not take too long). He likes politics. Interesting discussion in the class. I really like him. He is willing to help. Grade: A
Great professor would recommend and take class again! You have a lot of time in class to do your papers, and you can revise all of them. no class on friday just online moodles. GREAT PROFESSOR! REALLY EASY NOT A LOT OF PAPERS EITHER!
Prof Rouster is the best professor i've had at Oakland. He is an extremely fair man and really tries to get to know each and every student. Had him for 150 and switch into his 160 class because he was so good. Very helpful, gives lots of helpful feedback. No classes on fridays, only write about 5 short papers throughout the semester.
Loved this professor! He is very great in what he does and that says a lot for many professors here at the university. Every Friday there is a forum for feedback whatever topic he chooses, normally it'll be politics that's his favorite. A lot of class discussion which is good for interaction. Papers can be redone for credit, would take for WRT160.
I enjoyed this class a lot! I always faired well in high school writing, but he's definitely not a push over professor either you will need to put in serious effort to pass. He talks a lot about politics so get ready for that, you have a lot of class discussion as well total of 4 papers last one being the longest (5pages). Would highly recommend.
I had Professor Rouster for WRT150 and scheduled to have time again for WRT160! He is a great professor and always willing to help you improve your papers. I highly recommend him!
He's a tough grader, but if you put some time into your work and ask for extra help, you'll be just fine. He's always willing to help and always available, though his office hours always end up being super early. Great professor, and probably one of my favorite writing professors I've had. Awesome guy, great teacher!
Tough Grader. Does not teach you anything in class. Extremely boring and wastes class time. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE
Professor Rouster is the guy I want to be friends with LOL. He is a very nice guy and cares enough to get to know the students. He is a very tough grader though. I had a 3.9 in writing 150 and then I got a 3.3 when I took Rouster. If you have questions, ask them. He is always available to help you. Go to class because participation matters.
This was literally the worst class I've ever taken. You learn absolutely nothing in this class. Attendance is mandatory, so basically you have to show up everyday to listen to him talk about animal rights/veganism or things completely unrelated to the class. Nothing valuable was taught regarding how to improve as a writer. Complete waste of time/$.
He's a nice guy but the papers are graded harshly. you dont do anything for the majority of class time but he is a cool guy but he tries to teach you his ideals too much.
Professor Rouster is a great guy, not the best professor I've had. I put my heart into every paper and I came out with a C. He never gave me good feedback and the reasons why he never liked my papers didn't make sense. You must attend even if it means you'll learn nothing. I never knew what he wanted in assignments. Don't take his classes.
He's very nice and really cares about your grade.
Rouster is a great Professor! Papers are graded fairly, just try hard and ask him about certain comments on the paper if you do not understand them. Show up on time and make sure to be there everyday. If you struggle he is there to help. If the right effort is put into the class it is almost impossible to walk out without a fair grade.
Dr. Rouster was a great professor! I took him my first semester of college and I absolutely loved his class! He gave me helpful feedback on all of my assignments and truly helped me to become a better writer. I am currently taking him again, and I recommend him to anyone who needs to take a writing class! :)
He is the best teacher I could have!! He is extremely and beyond fair! For those who don't put in any work, they are the only people who would say otherwise. If you do your work and you respect him he is awesome and makes the class worth going too!
He's a great professor! He really cares about each & every one of his students & makes you feel comfortable in his classroom. There are only 3 big assignments, so take them seriously & you will do just fine! Definitely read any book he assigns because you WILL write about it, as well as have to use quotes from the book. Plus no exams! Great guy! :)
He is very caring and gives good feedback on how to get better grades in the class. There is only three assignments so make sure you do well on all three. Try not to skip class because he does notice. Class can be boring, but still try to go. Stay on his good side.
1 diagnostic paper(1pg), 1 paper on food or animals(5 pg?), 1 mini research paper(1pg), 1 rhetorical analysis paper on book assigned(3pg), 1 paper on your ideal profession(8 pg), 1 reflection paper(600-800 words), 1 rewrite, weekly online discussions Overall an easy class, lots of peer review, class discussion, he's very available but very boring
Professor Rouster was a great professor who really cared for his students and did his best to their success. He was fairly easy and was goofy teacher. You will do a few papers in his class and not much more, but he is a hard grader. Take MWF classes because he has Moodle classes online on Fridays that aren't due until Sunday.
He grades a little harder than my other professors, but is willing to work with you and help you grow if you're willing to try. He's very sweet but he states his political beliefs a lot. For WRT 1050 there's a few in-class writing days, lots of class discussion, and partner work. I would absolutely have him again! (Attendance is mandatory)
Rouster is such an amazing professor! He is a little bit tough on grading, but as long as you follow his assignment guidelines and ask him for help if you need it, you will go fine! He really cares about his students and will try to help you succeed as best as possible.
Rouster is a pretty laid back guy, but he does grade pretty tough on you. He loves to talk about politics and the moodle fridays are nice, but we basically wrote about the same thing every friday
I LOVED Rouster. The topics covered in his class were really interesting, making writing papers pretty easy. His class is an easy 4.0, with very clearly defined papers and Moodle Fridays. He really cares about his students and seeing them do well. Would definitely recommend him, especially for transitioning first-year students.
Professor Rouster was awesome! Would definitely take him again if I had to take another comp class. Attendance is part of the grade (you get two absences before being marked down). 3 papers, attendance, and Moodle Fridays are majority of grade. Gives good feedback on essays.
He is a great professor, I highly recommend taking him. He makes class enjoyable and creates an outstanding learning environment.
Not quite sure if he knows exactly what he's supposed to be doing. Easily distracted, boring, and only wants to listen to himself talk. Class is easy but that's mainly because he doesn't do anything. I do not feel like I am truly learning in this class. Usually spends the first 20 minutes of each class just talking casually to students.
Not a very eventful course, but Dr. Rouster is a very kind person. If you get to know him, you probably won't regret it.
Prof Rouster was a super enjoyable guy, but an incredibly harsh grader. His feedback was not very clear as to what he wanted to improve on. He did allow for rewrites of papers which was super helpful. Overall, if getting an A is important, look for a different professor.
The class overall is pretty easy there are not very many assignments. However he is a tough grader and really does make you work for it. His feedback can be a little iffy but if you sit and really tell him you want to know what exactly hes looking for he will tell you. Hes a really nice guy and you can tell he cares for each student.
Professor Rouster is a really enjoyable and caring guy. Pretty much three papers (last one is very lengthy) and a few discussion posts. Workload is not bad, and I thought he was overall a fair grader. If you work with him and get feedback, you will do well. Would definitely take him again.
At first, I did not enjoy this class because of the discussion topics we talked about. It was what the professor wanted to speak on and most of the time, he was the only one discussing. But as you get into writing papers, it gets better. He can be a tough grader but gives good feedback and allows for rewrites.
I do not recommend for a few reasons. One, he is a very tough grader and wasnt clear on what mistakes you made. Second, I understand that this is a English class and opinions are aloud , but in my opinion this class was very political and the discussions didnt go in hand with what we were learning. Lastly, he would constantly go off topic. -N.S.
He is one good professor. Not a lot of work to do, just 3 essays and you'll be good.
Although he can be a tougher grader, he always allowed rewrites and wanted to see people to do well. I would recommend to take his class!
The professor himself is not bad. He is quite funny and seems to be knowledgeable in his field with good feedback. He is, however, a very tough grader. The course itself also did not teach us anything more than information on topics related to our prompts. I think the course is difficult to be placed into (skipping Comp 1).
He is a good teacher, although he grades very hard and don't give you much tips to help you do better
Great professor. Had him for WRT 1050 &1060, and I can say that he's one of the better comp professors at Oakland. You have about 3 or 4 papers to write in the semester, and most are 4-5 pages long, except the final. He can be a tough grader at times, but he lets you rewrite papers and as long as you turn it in before the semester ends your good.
Overall, this professor was okay. There are 3 main papers and that's the majority of what you work on throughout the course. There are a couple of forums, but he waits to post them until later in the week. Tough and a VERY picky grader on the papers. His classes are so boring and he tends to go off track or not talk at all during classes.
He is very nice and respectful towards students. There are three main papers in this class and then a forum every week that are not that hard or long. The hardest thing in this class is the papers but he offers revisions for the first two. He also will tell you how to get a better grade on them. Very easy class and fun.
very very talkative during class, and somewhat very chill on attendance. Doesn't post the homework till the end of the week, besides that pretty good professor.
Cares about building a relationship with students. Attendance is more of a suggestion but he can mark you down. 3 major papers make your grade, normally a tough grader but does give rewrites on first two papers with suggestions that if followed will get you an A. Very big talker, spends a lot of class trying to converse. Overall enjoyable class.
Professor Rouster was great for an introductory level writing course. Grading was clear, and he gave a lot of feedback about improvement. Be familiar with APA formatting. We also had a lot of class discussions, which made the class feel pretty laid back. His support and feedback made it easy to succeed in the class.
Awesome professor!
Professor Rouster runs a pretty straightforward writing course. Grading can be tough, but he provides helpful feedback to improve. Paired with resources like Unstuck AI, this class is manageable and engaging.
