In the summer, his grading consists of midterm+take-home paper+participation+final (equally distributed). Summer paper shorter than paper assigned during regular semester. Learned a lot, but some believe he's biased with grading (i.e. agree=higher grd)

his lectures are very boring. takes attendence randomly. just study the study guide because some of the questions are on the mid-term and final. for the paper, make sure you see him often and ask questions.
Worst teacher completely ignored half the class didn't explain anything well
He has a handicap and cant talk well. You have to strain to understand him in lectures and it can cause you to fall asleep. If you really study the lectures and force yourself awake, you can get a B.
man, this guy was so unclear and inconsistent that i dropped the class. i don't think he has lesson plans, he just asks if we have questions then talks about some stuff in his pov and no one elses. you can't sleep in this class and he's biased.
so unclear
I just want to say that he may have a handicap but I have no problem understanding a word he says. I see his class discussions to keep you interested in the lectures.
He is funny and will give you what you need to know. His tests are easy, just go to class!
alright class. Says you need a book. Personally, this is just a review of high school government class. He has his favorites, usually the girls that sit in his eye range. He comes across as being really hard but he grades fairly easy.
The first thing you'll notice about Julius is his disability, but once he starts talking it somehow disappears because super articulate and really nice. It's obvious he has his favorites, especially if you're a pretty girl and sit within his eye range. Do yourself a favor and go to class.
He seems like he'd be hard but grades pretty easy... I don't go to class very often but found the midterm and policy paper a breeze. It is basically a review of everything I learned senior year in government. But, he does have a few favorites... the pretty girls who sit in front!

He is a great teacher i got an A in his class and i DO NOT GET A'S. You have to take your own notes and you havem to show up everyday, but if you participate, or you are a girl, you will do good in this class. There is 2 test and a paper, so not too much to stress about.
his class is really boring especially at 7 in the morning. i never went to class and got a b so i would recommend this teacher. all you have is two tests and a paper...you dont need the book. i never even opened it.
He's cool. pretty easy.
His class is a review of Government in high school. The class only has 2 tests (short answer and essay) and 1 policy paper. The only problem with him is, he is a little bias towards some of the girls. He frequently asks questions (particularly - Is everyone clear on the material?) and calls on some of the people more than others.
He sucked!!! I asked him specific questions and did everything he said and still do poorly. I do not know how other people feel but he was not a good teacher.
A lot of materials to remember but the class is easy. Very knowledgeable.
Pretty easy teacher I guess. Didn't really do much studying or reading. Take notes on the major points of his lectures and you will do fine.
Just take good notes and ask for help when you need it. I'd take a course from him again.
I learned a lot about American Gov. from this guy. I had him during the 2004 election and it was really helpful. He's not biased but rather plays devil's advocate to challenge a student regardless of political stance. Great teacher and good sense of humor.
He's a good teacher. Pay attention to his lectures, and participate in conversation. You will do well. Always remember to review the lectures before the exam, because the tests are always heavy on lecture stuff.
He is really sarcastic, i was kind of scared to ask him questions. But he is a real cool laid back guy. He cracks alot of jokes. Political science is kind of hard for me but he made everything clear to my understanding i passed the class with a B+.
Interesting teacher, kind of scary though especially when he calls on you in class which he does a lot of...I had him at 7 am which sucked cause hes kind of boring. Overall though I didnt read the book and got a C+.
CLASS WAS VERY EASY. GOT A'S ON ALL EXAMS AND B-ON PAPER. STUDY YOUR NOTES COVER TO COVER AND LOOK OVER BOOK. MAKE SURE YOU PARTICIPATE AND MAKE SURE HE KNOWS YOU PARTICIPATE, OTHERWISE HE WILL GIVE YOU AN UNFAIR PARTICIPATION/ATTENDANCE GRADE!!
I got an A but it was so easy that I felt as if I didn't earn it. All you have to do, if you're a girl, is to show up in class & talk to him. He likes female students' attention and isn't afraid to let that known. He has a temper however so watch out for the occasional outbursts in class -- very scary and unprofessional.
I too got an A on a minimum amount of efforts, compared to other classes. He's quite a character. I agree with the unprofessionalism comment above. This guy has serious issues because you'd never know what might set him off. Plus, he should really learn to keep his personal views to himself.
He gives one midterm (30%), one essay (30%) and one final (30%). The remaining 10% is class attendance and participation. He gives you a study guide before the midterm and the final. The essay is only five pages long and is rather straight forward. He is a nice guy and gives good lectures, but he does favor his female students.
Class was easy enough. show up, take notes, read the book. midterm, final and paper are all you have to worry about. participation is big- speak up. he does tend to favor female students.
Tests are BRUTALLY hard, purposefully picks stuff you HAVENT gone over. Is kind of a dick about calling on people and trying to trick them up. You can find an easier pol sci class. Plus always takes atttendance.
He's about as liberal as they get, and he makes sure every student of his knows that. He tries to trick you into becoming a liberal too. Tests are hard. Required attendance. If you're a girl that has a big chest, sit in the front and ask him questions, and you will pass with an A, no question.
True, he's a lib, but it doesn't interfere too much with the class. Attendance is MANDATORY. No homework, but you need to know your stuff for the exams. The paper was easy enough, just find materials early. Not hard if you PAY ATTENTION. I got an A+.
Really nice teacher, helpful and quite articulate. You must pay attention in lecture and do the readings diligently! 90% of the exams are on lecture alone. Straightforward course. I just hated how he called on people spontaneously.
attendance is a must if you want the participation, participate in class, ask questions, girls sit up front, make his office hours, mid term and final are 25 short answer questions plus 2 essays, and one paper that you get to choose the topic on..very knowledgeable prof.
This Professor lacks the basic courtesy of allowing others to have any other political view other than his own. DO NOT TELL HIM YOU ARE A REPUBLICAN HE WILL FAIL YOU. Sad that even at a place where you are allowed to express yourself whether politically or mentally you can still be discriminated against. Good Luck.PS.He's only nice to cute girls
Insanely coll Prof! Totally professional. Very clear & knowlegeable. Dr. Julius is really funny. Class was enjoyable. If you do the reading and know how to write, you'll get an A.
He was a pretty good teacher. He knew what he was talking about. I never went to his office hours and still got an A! People say he****girls but if you are a girl and dont want him to hit on you just cover up and you will be fine! I had him at 7am so I always had a sweatshirt and jeans on. Make sure you get to class on time!!

Had this class at 7 in the morning and most of the time struggled to stay awake during lectures. Pretty boring and dry material for the most part, but Dr. Julius does know ALOT about the subject material. He answers emails right away and is very helpful. Read the book. There was a midterm, policymaking paper, and the final.
The study guides he provides are very thorough, but after the final exam I felt tricked into studying all of the wrong topics. Be prepared to be put on the spot. He was a helpful teacher.. but I am really bitter about the sike-out study guide.
Julius is a fair but difficult professor. Your grade in the class is based on the midterm, the final, and a term paper. Attendance and participation is 10% of your grade, too. He will put you on the spot, and he spends a lot of time asking students if they have questions. Make sure your questions are specific or you won't get a clear answer.
He is boring, spends too much time askin stdnts if they have ?s. He scares students into studying unnecessarily too much for tests. Midterm & final consist of shrtanswrs and 2 full essays. Too mch 4 a GE class. Not a hard class, but not fun. Write down everything he says even when it sounds unnecessary it probably will be in the tests.
Class was at 7am and with his lectures it wasn't any easier for me to stay awake. His lectures are helpful but they get boring. He's a bit intimidating especially when you don't know when you'll called on. Tests are short answers and two essay questions. As long as you pay attention in class and study for the exams you'll get a decent grade.
His tsts reqre alot of wrtng, multiple choice & 2 full SA's. Thats alot for a ge class. You mst pay attention to his lectures- he goes on tangents about his prsnl opinions but sometimes topics come up that don't seem imptnt but is tested. He spent a whole clss sesion asking ppl "r all ppl created equal" which became a essay question. He's organize.
Dr. Julius was amazing. The people below show in their writing that a GE course must have been too hard for them if they can't even spell. This professor is great. He's hilarious, and keeps the tension down in class. Yes he calls on you but if you don't know he just jokes. Nothing personal. If you don't have a sense of humor don't take him.
This was a good class. Midterm, paper, and final, with participation. I was well taught, basic government, pretty easy if you go to class.
Attend every class or you miss alot.Wasted time asking unnecessary ?'s. Midterm, final and a 5 pg. paper due.Test consist of short answer ?'s and two essay questions. Participate or when he calls on you he will embarrass you.Study guides for test are rarely useful.Handouts on court cases and amendments are important.
this class is very diffcult. make sure you go to every class because he makes subtle hints of what's going to be on the exams. short id and essay format on the exams. he makes jokes but they are really corny. overall he is a very nice man and if i had to take him again i would and i would actually read. his class is a piece of cake.
hard class but u must participate a lot to do well. got an A- on the mid term and an A on the long paper and i thought i bombed the final but I got an A+ in the class probably b/c i participated
Low amount of notes/material to learn. He allots time in class for clarification of anything he has covered. DO NOT READ THE TEXT BOOK. He claims that all readings are fair game for tests, but in reality, less than 10% of test questions are based on text, and those questions are random trivia. Those extra couple points aren't worth the reading time
this professor is pretty funny. lectures arent boring cause keeps cracking jokes. material is fairly easy just take good notes. tries to intimidate you by saying its hard but really isn't hard. just attend class and participate and he'll pass you.
his class was way too hard. midterm. final. 5 pg paper. you need to study EVERYTHING in order to get an A on the midterm and final.paper wasnt bad though. too much for a 100 class and i never learned anything.he always asked for peoples opinions and rarely taught.
Make sure you go to class everyday. A lot of the exam questions are from lectures. Also give an effort to participate, or else he might call you during class. This class may not be easy but the professor is willing to help and he also responds to emails in a timely fashion.
Idk why ppl dont like him. He was awesome and his lectures were interesting and kept me awake in an 8am class. He makes jokes that not everyone would find funny but i thought they were. Comes of as mean at first but really nice. U MUST participate and for the final and midterm, just do the study guide and study key terms in book and ull get an A
I loved this class. Actually learned alot from it. Its good to particpate in his class..it helps with your final grade. Textbook was not all that needed but its good to know material before going to class because he tends to pick on people. but overall i would highly recommend his class!
GREAT PROFFESSOR IF U LIKE GODFATHER TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
DON'T TAKE FOR UPPER DIVISION. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Worst professor i have ever taken! no structure in his lectures. When you ask a question, he doesnt even answer it coherently. spends almost half the time talking about useless topics. attendance isnt listed on his syllabus however he 'will take it into consideration" regarding your final grade. I agree with the previous post DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Hes out there, but overal a good prof.DO NOT TALK IN CLASS!he will call u out and remember u!Just know main points from class,at least skim through books, and write down as much as you can.He says to follow current events, but not really necessary and can waste a whole class meeting talking about sub not on tests.attendance/particpation VERY important
He loves student participation and be prepared to be on the spotlight because he will call on you, especially if he sees that you are distracted or not paying attention, DO NOT TALK TO OTHER STUDENTS in class he will call you out. Study guides a bit unclear and test were kind of hard, but the paper was an essay A
Julius is an excellent professor. he makes political science (for non majors) interesting and understandable. his lectures are interactive and he encourages participation. his tests are do able as long as you have taken good notes and completed the study guide. i loved his course, i would definitely recommend him
Ok class. Just a Midterm, Paper, and Final. His study guides seemed a little misleading from what the actual exams were. Slow grader, didnt get my paper back until the last day of class. He never talked about the book readings really, though alot of questions on exams were abstract facts out of them. Dont talk to others in class or he'll call u out
such a great professor. easy class, and easy midterm & final. Just follow guidelines and you'll get an A.
Julius is awesome! He makes the class fun because he declares parts of the class in regards to area codes. Gives a study guide for the midterm and final. So follow that and you're good. Also the final is comprehensive so try to remember everything else before the midterm. (it's more heavily weighted toward post-midterm content though) He's cool!
Great professor, very knowledgeable about politics. Very challenging for people wanting to pass with an easy A. You will have to do all the reading; it will be on exams. Exams will be difficult if you don't study hard. He will also put in a few random questions on exams. Don't believe the study guide. Nice guy though I learned a lot in his class.
Don't get imitated on the first day of class. You will be taking notes non-stop, and he doesn't stop, you will miss things. You have to be the goat to ask him to repeat himself. He's an easier grader than he looks and sounds. The books are sometimes overwhelming and boring. The tests aren't bad, just know your notes>study guide.
He is an amazing professor, really knows his stuff and he has a really interesting sense of humor. If you want a guaranteed good grade, make sure he knows your name! He will remember if you sit up front and ask a lot of questions.Tests are pretty hard, so just take good notes. I learned so much from and will definitely take another of his classes.
This class is challenging, but you learn quite a bit. Expect to be taking lots of notes and doing lots of reading if you want an A. Overall a great class and professor. Just make sure you pay attention in class or he will call you out. He got the names of most of the class by the end of the semester so expect to be called on at some point.
Typical liberal professor. He's very sarcastic (and sometimes mocking), and will pick on those who don't ask questions. All of this aside, he is very knowledgeable and you will learn a lot. Warning: he's unclear on what he wants in his papers, so ask PLENTY of questions about it. Also, you have to keep up on the reading for the midterm and final.
He comes off as rough, but is really a nice guy. If you approach him for help (on essays, the material, etc.) via email he is incredibly helpful. Don't expect to just float through the class, if you work hard you will get the grade you deserve.
pretty chill.
He mostly rambles and there is not much concrete material that you can write down. The books aren't really necessary; I've bought them but never read them and still managed to get a good grade on the first exam. There's no homework, so you must do your best on the exams or you won't have a chance to improve your grade.
He is really funny if you like and understand sarcastic humor. He is a good teacher and he really knows his stuff. Books arent really needed he covers most of it in his lectures. Take good notes and ask questions if you dont get something he's very helpful. Just dont talk in class that is verrry important. i recommend this class :)
Dr. Julius is an okay professor; he doesn't really "teach," he mostly just talks about the subject matter. There's ONLY 3 assignments all semester one midterm, one paper, and the final. You must do well on all 3 if you want an A because you won't be able to get a good grade since there is no homework. This is the first class I will not get an A in.
He has an interesting sense of humor and he likes to provoke students into thinking and discussions. Class attendance is not mandatory but it does help. He takes attendance every class at the beginning of the semester. His tests are actually on the easy side if you study. Make sure not to procrastinate on your policymaking paper.
Class is way to big to focus! He is not organized and its hard to pay attention. No homework, so your grade depends on a midterm and paper. Its hard to see what he writes on the board. There happens to be alot of side conversations and rambling about stuff unrelated to the class. I personally, did not enjoy the class. The books you do need!!!!!!!!!
Grade depends on 3 things: Midterm, policy making paper, and final. I didn't do well on the tests, but I did pretty well on the paper. You really have to study if you want a good grade. And if you want to be picked on, sit in the first few rows. He can be pretty funny in a sarcastic kind of way. He doesn't ALWAYS take attendance.
Hard teacher. Honestly, find a friend in that class and TAKE GOOD NOTES!!! Books are A MUST!!!
If you show up everyday to class, you don't need the book because the midterm and the final is mostly based on his lectures. And, honestly, he grades REALLY easy on the midterm, paper, and final. Just make sure you go to the review sessions and actually do the study guide.
Very hard to focus on. He Does not uses power point presentations or any other type of "support" material to make class less boring. He just lectures all the time. He's always willing to answer questions though.
GREAT PROFESSOR BUT DIFFICULT CLASS. GRADES THE TESTS STRICTLY AND GRADE IS DETERMINED THROUGH A MIDTERM, ESSAY, AND FINAL. PS. Exams seem very easy but results weren't as i expected.
Refuses to answer questions about the final study guide because he doesn't want to lecture twice. Refuses to answer certain emails because he already went over it once. Not very helpful.
Terrible professor. Incredibly boring and refuses to go over anything he's already lectured. Hard grader, very large class that makes it very hard to focus. DO NOT take him.
Funny Professor! Made such a boring topic interesting. Attendance is mandatory to take good notes! Be sure to ask plenty of questions because he will like you. Cannot slack off the class is only graded based on midterm paper and final. He is very helpful overall.
He is a terrible teacher in all honesty. I worked my butt off and received an A-, no thanks to him. He is a tough professor and doesn't review things. I wouldn't recommend ANYONE taking his class. This was the hardest class I have ever taken.
Hard professor but it's doable if you know people in the class to study with. There are only 3 assignments in this class: Midterm, 5 page Paper, and the Final. The midterm and final are both short answer and essay based. You'll pass them if you do the study guide that he gives out. DON'T STUDY LAST MINUTE. It's A LOT of info
Honestly, I can see why every review is so relative. I'm a very relaxed student, but I got a B easily in his class. The midterm and final were all Blue Book, no multiple choice. Though I freaked out initially, the test really wasn't difficult at all, it's common knowledge for Political Science. I thought he was knowledgeable, helpful, and funny.
This is not an easy A class. you HAVE to work for it. His midterm and final sounds impossible when he first tells you, but its completely doable. Go to EVERY class and take GOOD notes and you'll be fine. He answers any questions IN CLASS (take advantage of it) overall the material sounds hard but its not. DO THE STUDY GUIDE!!! i got a A! :]
Not goin to lie hated going to this class maybe cause it was at 8am I ended up with an A-he scares students cause the class SEEMS hard but its totally doable:) Start the study guide early-its long but but it got me an A. He's an easy grader so don't panic on the paper either follow the outline EXACTLY and you'll do GREAT! Seems tough-but is funny!!
He's a very helpful professor but, the problem with this class is that the class is huge and your grade is mostly based on your midterm and your final so, study hard. He tries to make the class interesting which works sometimes even though he looks intimidating. I highly suggest you study hard for this class, it's not easy getting an A.
The prof. taught the subject really well. He makes it clear and simple and always answers any question you have. He talks his lectures (so no slides) I would recommend a laptop to type out everything that he says. Grade is based on midterm, final and a paper. read the book and study what he talked about in class and you will be fine. :)
Prof Julius is so smart and passionate about what he teaches. He is a fabulous teacher and I learned so much from this class. I actually grew to love government. It's unfortunate that it was a huge lecture class but other than that it was awesome. Tests are pretty tough so you have to study a lot.
I recommend reading the text ahead of time, it will help alot when writing notes in class. Mr. Julius seems scary at first, but is not. Exams sounds difficult as they are not multiple choice, but that means your answers doesn't have to be exact. Usually answers any questions in class. Only midterm, paper, and final are graded. Don't bomb these!
This class is super easy as long as you show up every day and TAKE NOTES. He mentions the book in the lectures but I never even bought the book and I passed with an A-. It's pretty much high school government with a little extra information so it's a cake walk. The essay isn't as daunting as it's set out to be. Just follow the rubric.
All you have to do is be there pay attention and the exams are easy. Take it
Love this class! Professor Julius makes the class interesting and is subtly funny. You just have to go to class everyday, take notes, and pay attention and the class should not be that difficult
tests were not difficult. follow rubric for your paper EXACTLY. and take good notes
Class wasn't that hard but it was super boring. Attendance does count for 10% of your grade but he only takes role like 6 times the whole semester. Lectures are pointless. Just fill out the studyguides correctly using the textbooks, memorize them, and you will get As on both tests.
This class was very hard. His method of teaching is boring. He talks for the entire class period and writes few notes. The content also dictates that he should do something different considering it is parties and elections.
Learned a lot from this class. I hated my high school government class and political discussions before, but Professor Julius made me more interested in those subject matters. Do not be afraid to ask questions. Dr. Julius is willing to help and has a great sense of humor.
Hated politics prior to this class, but this prof def made it seem a lot more interesting. Although he may seem intimidating, he is very helpful and thorough when you don't understand something. Attend review sessions and be sure to follow study guides and rubrics. If you do so, the class is easy! try to attend class regularly - takes roll randomly
Nice man, knows his info, very clear lectures. Midterm and final + 1 paper. Get the paper done ASAP, and tests are simple if you paid attention in class and took good notes. STUDY the info to get a good grade. Doesn't take attendance everyday, but he makes it a surprise when he does, so attend class. All in all pretty interesting class and nice guy
Awesome guy. Go to his office hours to clear up any info on your P.M.P. AND FOLLOW THE RUBRIC EXACTLY.
His lectures are incredibly boring and make you not want to go to class. But they're related to the exam so go to class. Other than that he's an awesome professor. Go to the exam reviews!
he is a terrible lecturer, but his class, if you keep up with notes and reading is fairly easy. If you want to be successful for the tests, GO TO THE SUPPLEMENTAL STUDY SESSIONS!!!! THEY WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE!!! DO NOT UDERESTIMATE THEIR POWERS!!!Overall, fairly decent class
His lectures may be boring and he's not that enthusiastic, but the course was doable. Two exams and one 5 page paper is basically your grade. Just know that he takes attendance on random days (even though it's a large class) and it's pretty boring, but you might learn something & it could be interesting. Overall an OK GE course, but not that great
VERY clear lecturer, goes over anything that seems unclear. I honestly don't understand how someone finds him boring or confusing, maybe they didn't show up to class. Attendance is mandatory, he takes random roll calls. If you show up to every lecture, or have a friend who will give you notes, you don't need to buy the book. I LOVED this class!
Very passionate about political science which makes me like this professor a lot! He's very helpful in office hours and will clarify whatever you need to. Writes very little during lectures and will talk on and on. So unless you're a very fast writer, bring a laptop! Paying attention is a must for the A because the book can only help so much.
Lectures are clear & well delivered, the bulk of info comes from there. I did use the textbook to look up definitions, that's a main part of his study guide and exams. The time limit on the exams ended up killing me, have to write fast & in depth. Only 3 things your grade is based on so not a lot of wiggle room, but great prof. & pretty easy class
lectures are not well given and he does not connect with the class. Overall just do well on the midterm, essay, and final.
I took his class in a large lecture hall but he still did a good job addressing the entire class and being clear. Even with the large number of students, he encouraged questions and participatipon.
He takes attendance on random days, but after a while its pretty obvious when he will take attendance. One 5-page essay+midterm+finalgrade. Midterm is a bit hard and the essay I finished in 7 hours the day before it was due. Choose an easy topic. A lot of research, so don't procrastinate, overall good class to and you can learn from it.
One paper, midterm and final. Midterm and final are short response, but he provides a study guide for both which is very helpful. He's not extremely strict on grading which is a huge bonus. Easy class as long as you do the study guides
Very straight forward lectures, TAKE GOOD NOTES. Tests are free response w 2 essay questions (not hard, just write like a 3 sentence paragraph). One paper. He always asks if you have any questions so don't hesitate. He says participation is a big part of your grade, but not really. Don't need the books. Follow the study guides and you'll be fine.
No textbook needed. Just attend his class and take good notes. He does not write anything on a board besides the title, so do not doze off even though the lecture could be very monotone and dull... I'd say he failed to make this subject interesting for students who are not really into POSC. One midterm, one research paper, one final exam.
The course was as difficult as my high school Government class, so if you already understand government you'll be fine. Lectures are extremely clear and concise. Additionally, at the beginning of every class he asks if there are any questions from last class meeting which he will often spend 20 minutes answering. Pretty straight forward class.
his class was not to bad. He randomly took attendance. There was a midterm and a final. there pretty easy if you study the study guide. he answers all your questions and is very helpful. I got an A in his class, but I had to really study. I would take again. its a fairly easy class to pass.
Easy class, not demanding at all in terms of reading or outside work. Lectures are clear, good note taking is imperative. Cool professor that makes the content easy to understand and remember. Highly recommended.
The cool thing about this professor is that he can argue every side in a debate. He sees the pros and cons of each side and conveys that to his students.
His lectures are boring, checks the clock too often, just talks and talks and sometimes not about the lecture. He uses uhm too much and makes it hard to take notes. Only has two tests which he returns late and makes it hard for you to know how you are doing. The tests included essays and short answered questions for only 50mins of class. Two papers
Take good notes and follow the readings if you can. 2 midterms, a paper and a final.
He may be easy for POSC 100! Do not take him for POSC 315. His lectures are confusing. His study guide is complete bull from the exam. You should study his study guide, but make sure to read the whole book he assigns for the reading. 48 Mins to do a test. Yeah.
He is a great teacher for this class. He does address all the information you need to know for the midterm and the final. He is very helpful when it comes to the essay you have to write so ask him for help if you need it. Class can get a bit boring sometimes but make sure you pay attention so you can learn the information you need.
Long, boring lectures. He tries to be funny, but uses the same 3 jokes all semester and it gets played out. Uses "um" too much and talks too fast to take proper notes. Sometimes he talks about things irrelevant to knowledge we need for the test. Checks the clock way too often. 1010 would not recommend unless you're really really desperate.

Professor William Julius is always well prepared, but his lectures usually don't start until halfway through the class because he reviews topics from the past for the first 30 minutes or so. He randomly takes attendance and will pick on you if you're in the first 5 rows of the lecture hall. take good notes & youll pass.
I like how Professor Julius presents his lectures, with a calm assertive demeanor. His lectures are interesting if you pay attention. He's not so tough on grading exams and there are only three. Class is super easy, if you don't pass this class then I don't know what you're doing with your life mang.
Expected this class to be a lot harder than it was. This class consist of just lecture. Prof Julius just writes down what he is going to talk about for 50 minutes. Lecture could get boring at time but he does make jokes (funny guy). 1 tests and final (short answer) just like the study guides. TAKE THE SI CLASS. IT WILL HELP YOUR GRADE (GOT A B).
Here how to pass with an A : 1. Don't Buy the Book 2. Don't miss class 3. Write down everything EVERY WORD he lectures 4. Go to Si (Christian is an amazing TA that will help you pass) . His class is really easy its a midterm and a final based on his lectures- no surprises- free response- no multiple choice. Easy A
Randomly takes roll. As long as you attend class and take good notes and review them afterwards, you should be good for the midterm and final. Class comprises of a midterm, paper, and a final. Both the midterm and the final are 25 question, 2 points each, and 2 essay questions worth 25 points each. Short answers from one word to a sentence or two.
The POSC 100 class was almost 200 students so come prepared to class and ask as many questions as possible. Randomly takes attendance. Easy but difficult at the same time. Grade is divided by the midterm, final paper, and final exam. Be prepared for the exams and especially midterm because it will greatly determine your final grade
His lectures might be long and you must copy down what he says but of you need clarification and repetition of what he said he would do it
I zone out in that class way too many times. Dry lectures. Too much knowledge that isn't crucial to know for the exam. Takes attendance randomly. Helpful guy but I think I died a few times and was resurrected by the thought of obtaining a degree.
He gives a lot of information that is not needed on the test. Take really good notes, if you miss something, don't worry, because if it is important he will say it again at least three more times. Test are really easy, especially with a thorough study guide. The only hard thing about the midterm was the time crunch! Do not waste money on a textbook
Prof Julius was a great teacher who clearly knew his stuff. He was able to answer every question and always made sure everybody was clear on the material. I would definitely take his class again.
Don't buy the textbook! See if you and some friends can split the cost to share one; you'll maybe only open it once. Professor spends half of every lecture repeating facts from previous lectures, so if you miss a class you should be fine. Takes attendance randomly. Policy-making paper, but it's easy if you ask him for advice. Make friends with him!
Stressful class, only three grades midterm, paper and final. If you study, follow directions and attend class you will have no problem passing. Don't buy the textbook, the tests are based off lectures.
love his class! very informative and definitely has a sense of humor even if I was the only one laughing. Just a midterm paper and final not much use of textbook but I don't know how I would have gotten an A with SI!! Shout out to Christian :)
Midterm & Final consist of 25 free response & 2 short essays. MEMORIZE is key here and that means you need to take clear notes. You will pass as long as you study your notes. Go to the study sessions. First one gave the whole test basically. One lengthy paper but not too hard. Got an A on midterm & final but got a B on paper.
I had this class in a huge lecture hall of about 200 students. I recommend sitting near the front and PARTICIPATE to the point where he knows your name! He talks fast in lectures so shorten your notes. Confirm notes with classmates!!! Huge tip: GO TO SI SESSIONS!! I went almost everyday to Christian's SI sessions and improved a lot!
One midterm. One 5 page long paper. One final. He grades participation and attendance too. Randomly takes roll, so BE THERE EVERY CLASS. His lectures are very detailed & insightful. Participating in class is ESSENTIAL, especially when you've missed something he said. He does not mind repeating it 1,000 times for you. He is a funny professor also!
He is an amazing professor! I am not a posc major but I want to take another one of his classes. He is very straightforward on his lectures and gives study guides for the 2 tests. U don't have to read to do well in his class. There is a 6pg. paper but its not hard at all. LOVED his class, easy/fun class to fulfill a GE requirement
He takes attendance even though it's a 200 student lecture, which takes up about a quarter of the class time. He says you need to participate but as long as you go to every class your participation grade is good. Tests are pretty straightforward as long as you take good notes and study everything.
His recommendation is top read the book and I support that recommendation. He does not use powerpint so basically you have to hear carefully and take notes as he goes. His test are somehow tough but there is a lot of help
If you're lazy like myself, go to SI. It really helps u understand the concepts better. There is 1 midterm, 1 paper, and the final. Pretty straightforward class, graded highest on all three. no homework, except you'll want to read the book. prepare to work your tail off in the end. I procrastinated in this class and I got a B-.
Two exams Midterm and Final. First half of the test is fill in the blank; key terms, 1 or 2 sentences, second half two essay questions that are pretty easy if you do the reading and or study the STUDY GUIDE he gives you. Attendance is mandatory he randomly takes role and they are worth points. One paper with 5 pages of content. TAKE SI FOR AN A
2 exams, 1 paper, no EC. He's straight forward with what he expects and SI is provided to help you with anything you have questions with. Easy class if you study and address what he wants for the paper. He doesn't mind repeating ANYTHING 100x if you need it.
He is a great professor. His lectures are straight forward and if you missed something he said, ask him and he will be happy to go over it again. Definitely ask questions during class to earn brownies. And Definitely go to SI to ace your exam.
There is one midterm, one policy making paper, and one final. You need to do good in all of these. No extra credit. You don't need the book. Be in class and take really notes of his lecture because there is no PPT however he does give study guides and everything is on the study guide so memorize it. Midterm and final is 25 short answer and 2 essay
1 Midterm with 25 short answer questions and 2 essays in one class period, 1 Final with 25 short answer questions and 2 essays in 2 hours, and 1 Policy Making Paper. Participate! Ask him to repeat something again if you missed something from previous lectures, he will take time to answer them. Seriously go to SI! Christian really knows his stuff.
You have 2 exams, both of which are written (short answer and essay questions). Lecture heavy class and you really have to be there to understand certain concepts, but he makes sure that everyone is on the same page. In this class you won't be embarrassed to ask questions because he'll never make it seem like any question is dumb. I recommend him.
EASY CLASS! Going to lecture is important but just showing up and paying attention is really enough. Tests are straight from the study guide, nothing extra. If you ever have questions or wanna talk politics, he's always down. Easy A if you're not stupid and can memorize things easily
Two exams. A midterm and final. The final is non-cumulative. Go to class listen to lecture and take notes and will pass. Did not read book and did well on exams. One essay , fairly easy.
Go to class, focus, and take good notes. He uses no power points so make sure to listen carefully to his lectures. Ask questions if you need to clarify your notes, he likes that. Midterm and Final are really straight forward therefore do the study guide which is very helpful. There is one policy making paper due, overall great professor.
Didn't read the textbook. Just take good notes and do the study guide and you should be fine. He's a funny guy and I learned a bit from his class but probably wouldn't take him again because he's awa bit rude to some and clearly favors others - the whole semester. Didn't ask many questions because of this. As on both exams. B+ on paper. take him
Simple and straightforward class! No hw. Straight lectures no ppt so I suggest recording his lectures/using a laptop to take notes. The class consisted of 1 exam, final (both are 25 short answer questions) and a paper. Try to participate as much as you can and go to his office hours if you need clarification on anything - he is there to help you!
Great Class! Very straight forward. Some pressure because there are only four assignments the whole semester. I have lots of respect for Dr Julius and would take another class of his if I could. Textbooks not needed if you pay attention in class and participate here and there.
I'm glad I took this class! He doesn't use powerpoint when he lectures so I recommend buying a compostion book or using a laptop. Be sure to take good notes and don't be afraid to ask him questions. Don't buy any of the textbooks. His tests are based on the notes. Midterm & the final are both 25 short answer questions and 2 essays & a policy paper.
Two tests (midterm and final) and one major paper. Pay attention during lectures, a lot of it is on his tests. He also tends to pick on people to participate.
The lecture was all talk, no powerpoints which means you really have to follow along. out of the 3 "mandatory books", i read half of two of them and didnt crack open on of them. He's very kind and responds to emails super quick. A midterm, final, and 5-8 page election analysis paper. Tests are 25 short answers and two essays so major hand cramp
He was an amazing teacher, really funny guy, his lectures were enjoyable, he was pretty straight forward and his tests were fairly easy if you studied I would take his class again but sadly he is gone. May he rest in peace ive never met someone as passionate about politics then him you will be missed William Julius.
I really enjoyed his class! I was excited to take another of his classes next semester. It is deeply saddening that he passed away. The school lost one of their best political science professors.
