Keylor is the nicest professor you could hope to have.
Very intelligent but teaches in an understandable way. A great guy.
Keylor rocks my world
an overall great professor
great prof, very intelligent, patient. VERY nice man, take his classes!
he knows how to teach!
best prof at bu, but one of his tfs is an ass with grading
Best professor in the school. Great textbook and great lectures
Keylor doesn't read your outlines or Book Reviews so write a good paper or.....
Most funny professor I've had at BU! I hate history, but he made it really interesting!
Professor Keylor is an amazing man. He has so much information stuffed into his head and is always willing to share it. Too cool to accurately describe.
Best professor at BU. Not an easy class, but it will be the best class you ever take.
a great class, very well organized. the exams are straight from the notes, so you have to study those well. in order to do well in the class, and write the roguh draft, it helps!

great, interesting lectures, laugh every time. lots of visuals. learned a lot. tests are tough b/c they're broad. a lot of studying and reading. answers questions well; accomodates class interests. he's not as hard as the actual course is.
Keylor is amazing. There truly aren't enough great things to say about his classes. Tons of information to cover, but you walk away from the semesters with so much knowledge. GO TO CLASS and TAKE GREAT NOTES. The reading isn't nearly as important.
Excellent professor. Explains and links events in a clear and coherent manner. Lectures are always interesting, hardly ever fell asleep. Take good notes and you won't need to read as much. Essay tests graded by TA's, take McGuire, He's the best!
possibly one of the best teachers at BU. just go to all his lectures and take GOOD notes..also the talk to the ta's alot, and get on their good side..it pays.
he is an awesome teachers. he also gives lectures for other causes becuase students like him so much they ask him to do it. just read his book and take good notes and you will do well in class. he is one of my favorite teachers i've had in my life
His lectures are very well structured and easy to understand. NEVER miss his lectures cause he summarizes the readings so well in his powerpoint lectures. Take good notes. Very helpful TAs and excellent professor.
Prof. Keylor's lectures are very clear and he never fails to add a few funny quips. Keeps you awake even in a dark, comfortable lecture hall.
Great class if you like WWI. He is very enthusiastic and listens to everyone's ideas. There are no exams, just a book review and 20 page research paper. Lots of reading & discussion, but it's interesting. Take this class!
Keylor really loves teaching. He is truly one of the most intelligent people on this planet. The lectures are wonderful. He uses pictures and videos to tie in lecture material.
I have taken practically all of the classes professor Keylor teaches and must say that he is by far the best, the greatest and the most bestest professor at the University and basically entire world. When I grow up, I want to be just like him. :)
Had him for both his lecture courses and now in his Cold War seminar. A great lecturer and discussion leader, knows so much about the world he could be President. Plus he's incredibly nice and accessible. If he's not the best professor at BU notsurewhois
he is the most amazing lecturer i've had at bu. i think he's probably one of the university's best professors-he's so knowledgeable and really interesting to listen to.
Probably the best professor I've had at BU. Amazing lecturer. Take good notes and the reading will be less important.
Amazing lecturer -- picks relevant material. Reading isn't NEARLY as important as going to lecture and taking good notes, and Keylor's lectures are well-organized and entertaining.
awesome lecturer, the test are pretty hard but you'll be alright as long as you study well and review all the notes from the lecures. He has a great breadth of knowledge.
The most AMAZING professor in BU. EXCELLENT lecturer and so nice and funny. Wish I could take another class with him. I NEVER miss a single lecture of hi! so interesting!!!!!! His exams test your crtical knowledge and as long as you study for them and attend evry lecture, they are very fair.
Keylor undoubtedly rocks! He knows soooo much and makes class interesting with video clips, power point presentation and just his own enthusiasm. Fields questions extremely well, readings are pretty interesting too
Great prof. great class.
Keylor is the best!! He crams a ton of info into his lectures but somehow I never fall asleep. Not a hard class- if you study your notes the readings aren't necessary.
There's so much to know in this class but Keylor makes sure that you learn it all. His lectures are amazing and interesting. The only downfall is the amount of material and tests which are quite long and difficult. If you study the notes you should be fine though.
Easy to pass, hard to get an A. TFs do all the grading so get an easy one. This class will give you a really great background for all other IR courses you take here, especially anything dealing with the World Wars or Europe.
Fantastic class. Keylor is amazing. The class is not overly difficult, although few will get an A. The TFs do all the grading. The reading can be difficult but there isn't that much of it. Take this class.
Keylor is the best prof. I ever had at BU. He very clear with his lectures and he also makes it fun with extra stuff like audios and video clips. It's very hard to find a prof. that actually enjoys teaching, but Keylor def. enjoys what he does and he's good at it!
He really know's his stuff, has an excellent teaching style, very fair grading, and very helpful outside of class. I highly recommend this class.
Great proffessor who makes lecture entertaining with his power points and sound affects. Lectures are very clear and if you just go to the lecture and take good notes, all the readings are not as neccessary. I did hardly no reading but took good lecture notes and recieved a b+, highly recommend
An amazing class. I worked my butt off to get a B- but Keylor makes every lecture interesting and worth staying awake in!
Take IR 349 before 350. It will make it much easier to do well as well as you will have a foundation for all the things he lectures on. I loved the class and got an A
Keylor's a genius, and his organization is top-notch. You'll learn more in an hour and a half than you thought possible. He was my thesis advisor, and I wouldn't have picked anyone else. Take any and every class with him you can.
Keylor's lectures are so thorough and comprehensive, I never read a thing and still made an A. Take notes like lightning and you will do really well. He makes the subject surprisingly really engaging.
Has always been excelent, interesting, and provides information in a coherent and entertaining format.
Amazing lecturer! It's so easy to make a history lecture boring, but Keylor makes all of the material so interesting. There's A LOT of material covered but you will NEVER feel bored. Keylor's great at office hours, too. This is kind of a tough course because it's tons of info, and the exams are intense and graded by TFs, but great class overall.
I LOVE KEYLOR! He assigns a lot of reading, but his own book is most important His lectures are very clear, but dense. My hand always hurt at the end of class. I cannot WAIT to take HI350 and other classes with him in the future. Definitely recommended.
He gives great lectures, and you learn a lot, but you definitely have to work- there is an ton of reading assigned for each lecture. It helps to figure out what is necessary and what isn't. TFs do all of the grading, and there's no curve, so it can be really random. The tests are frightening, but it's a worthwhile class.
I <3 Keylor. His lectures are so interesting and informative that he makes an hour and a half class not seem horribly long. The reading isn't really necessary, you can get along with just going to lecture. His exams are essays, but not too bad and you only write one 5 page paper for the whole course.
Keylor is a great professor, interesting lecturer, and really knows his stuff. The lectures are a tad long-winded, but definitely keep your attention. Discussion sections are worthless and attendance required.
It is hard to say whether I dislike Keylor or just HI 349. Although he is entertaining (is a quick chuckle the most we want from our educations?), his insight is limited and the survey course so broad, that important details that actually make history are ignored in favor of broad general 'trends.'
I absolutely adore Keylor. He lectured like he was telling a story and you couldn't help but catch some of his enthusiam. I learned so much from this class, and it wasn't just the same old history facts. The midterm and final are essay tests, but I found the questions fairly general. However, grading seems left mostly up to the TF's.
One of the best professors at BU, hands down. Lectures are informative, well-organized, interesting and very relevant. Reading is not excessive, and TF's are good. EVERYONE should take a class with Keylor, he's the man.
Keylor is amazing and absolutely the best prof at BU. Trust me, you'll learn more than you thought was possible in a semester. But don't worry about the readings; just learn to take really good notes. Keylor is the man!
Keylor is amazing. Not only does he have a great understanding of the 20th century, but he conveys it in a manner which is easy to comprehend. He is one of the best professors at BU. If you have a question your TF can't answer, ask him. He will help you. If you take great notes you can ignore the readings.
Amazing! You don't realize how much you've learned till after you leave the class and look back at Keylor's notes for every essay you write in other classes. Brilliant guy, interesting lectures, reading isn't bad either. Definitely take it!
Loved his classes! His clarity puts other professors to shame. I caught myself using his notes for my other classes. As long as you read his book and take good lecture notes, not a hard class at all.
Keylor is the best! Extremely clear, makes his lectures very interesting. Class is really hard with a lot of material to learn and tests are essays in which you have to remember tons of facts and dates in limited time, but Keylor makes it all worthwhile.
Keylor is wonderful. His lectures are clear and interesting. If you pay attention in lecture and take good notes, you don't really have to do the readings. Grading is all done by the TF, so it depends on which one you get but they are generally very fair. I wish every IR required course was this great.
Keylor is awesome, as long as you go to lectures and take notes like crazy, you dont need to do the reading. Definitely take this class.
Love him, as does everyone. Incredibly eloquent & engaging speaker. If you happen miss a lecture, just read the text. His are the best classes I've taken at BU in my three years.
Keylor is the man. Interesting lectures. Got an A (had never done better than an A-). You don't need to do the readings, just go to class and take notes like crazy. Then repeatedly read the notes before tests. Interesting class and Awesome professor.
One of my favorite professors at BU. The class is extremely huge though, but I looked forward to going to every class for some reason, since he had something interesting to talk about whether if it's about the ages of Imperialism or World War II.
Excellent teacher. Interesting and informative lectures and a great personality. The classroom PowerPoint presentations were great. All the positive reviews below are all correct.
Entertaining and intersting lectures.
Keylor is the man. I had him for 349 and 350 and I just can't get enough...good lectures. Easy class to do well in as long as you go to class.
Great professor. Very clear on what he tries to teach during lecture. Not a hard class if you keep up with the lectures, which are always interesting. One of the better professors Ive had at bu.
I don't agree with people saying he is "easy". Keylor is a great lecturer and a nice man, but his essay exams are extremely stressful and it is very hard to do spectacular in his class. I worked my ass off and only got a B. It depends on how good you are at ****ing on essay exams. The class unfairly rewards those who are good at this.
I love Professor Keylor. This course was incredible. 15-20 students. He is the only professor at this school who actually knows me now....For the below person who said its unfair (IR 350) Id say that any class is bias in favor of what someones strengths are...id fail an organic chemistry class. just as a chem person may not understand IR as well
Keylor is a great, intelligent professor who actually made history interesting. Although lectures sometimes dragged, I learned a lot from him. Be warned, you must read and there is a TON of reading, and you'd better be good at long essay questions for his midterm and final. Other than that, great class.
Keylor is an amazing professor, and can be counted on to keep lectures interesting. The problem with the class is that Keylor doesn't do the grading himself, and the TFs vary greatly in what they're looking for/assignments/grades. I got an A- in IR349, but I'm struggling for a B- in IR350..
Amazing!!! Studying for his tests were stressful, but it was worth it. He rewards those who work hard...
Keeps classes interesting but doesn't share his notes.
I simply love him. Everyone should take one of his courses before graduation -- lectures are crystal clear and he's hilarious. How can you NOT take this class?
Nobody warned me how hard this class was going to be! Make sure you have a REALLY high interest in history before you sign up. Also, never zone out while taking notes or miss a class. It's a pain in the butt to sit through his lectures but you have to take meticulous notes for an A on the tests. Only 1 midterm, 1 paper, and a Final.
He is wonderful! Clear lectures (although they can be a bit boring, but hey, he's teaching a history class so you can't blame him!). The difficulty really depends on your TF. Go to lecture and read and you'll be all set!
Anyone who disses this guy is probably an idiot. Lectures are interesting, very clear, and to the point. He is also very organized and always manages to follow the syllabus, not to say he doesn't tell you some quirky details about the topic. Great guy, great class. FYI, the TFs do ALL the grading, so suck accordingly :)
Keylor is a really good professor. His lectures are clear, and even though the TFs do all the grading, he's really clear about how to do well. He's really nice and always happy to stay after class and talk with you
Keylor is one of the most entertaining lecturers I've ever seen. He is wonderful and provides interesting tidbits you wouldn't otherwise learn. TFs do all the grading, but the lecture section is <3.
cold war with keylor amazing, he is a great professor, start work on your paper early he is a generous & decent man. brilliant, helpful outside of class, good advice on papers, lets you know what he wants on the paper. a brilliant good and exceptional human being, makes you believe there is a god
If you want to learn European history, take this class. He's one of the best at BU.
I took 2 classes with Prof. Keylor nearly 30 years ago and remember him as a very good lecturer, enthusiatic, and an overall nice guy. happy to know he still gets high rating from his students today
sure, keylor is cutesy and nice and all that, but he's only clear because he doesn't really challenge students in lecture. i understand there is a lot of material to cover, but i felt like he generalized and oversimplified history. i could have learned more on wikipedia. a good TF makes all the difference.
Amazing lecturer, always entertaining and interesting. I had a terrible T/F and they are completely in charge of grades. Funny story: I am studying abroad for IR next year and it was suggested by the professor abroad to bring any Keylor notes/books I could find. This was without them knowing I had ever taken his class. Shows how great he is.
Prof. Keylor is the man! He makes lectures interesting and varied enough to keep you awake, and hides hilarious jokes in between slides! Doesn't post the slides online, but if you can take good notes and do some reading, it will be no problem. Your grade depends completely on the TA (mine had mood swings all the time). Great class overall!
Amazing professor. Funny guy and about as interesting and lucid as they come for professors. Have had two classes with him and while I didn't find them the most challenging (if you read and take notes you'll do well), the history was interesting and the delivery was superb. Would take him again if I had the chance! -Cheers
An amazing professor, with so much knowledge in his head, it's hard to believe it doesn't explode. He loves class participation, and makes amusing historical jokes. If you're in history or IR at BU, you NEED to take one of his classes.
Good lecturer, really funny and interesting. Problem is your grade fully depends on the TA. So if you happen to have Holms SWITCH IMMEDIATELY. The guy is nice and very knowledgeable, but he doesn't, and I quote, "Believe in A's". Highest you can get is an A-. And you will have to work hard for it. Would be fine, but the other TAs give plenty of A's
Absolutely loved this class because of Keylor. He manages to keep the lecture interesting and very organized. Exams were fairly easy. Honestly I depended on lecture notes and notes from discussion which were on the readings (that I did not read). So make sure to take good notes.
Best teacher I've had at BU. Great to talk to when you have a chance. He makes lectures fun and interesting and even attempts to make a few jokes. I've taken two of his courses and have had no regrets!
Professor Keylor is SO incredibly knowledgeable of history. He is a great professor that can make dull subjects interesting and his lectures will make you want to go to class. Everyone loves Professor Keylor and I would definitely recommend him to any IR or His. major, or to anyone with extra credits to fill that has some interest in history.
He talked pretty fast in class but that was because there was a lot of information to go through. But go through his powerpoins because he only highlights the important parts, which is really useful when he comes to the final exam. I didn't have to use the textbook at all unless I missed a lecture or one of his were unclear. Overall, insightful.
Professor Keylor uploads all his powerpoints and lecture outlines right before every midterm and final. He is quite humorous in class and his class is very easy to follow. This class really depends on how you get active in discussion sections and how intimate you get with your TA.
Great professor and lecturer. He's honestly the best professor I've had at BU. TF's can be great but they can also be pretty bad. Reading the textbook isn't needed if you go to lecture and take good notes, but you still have read the document books to do well on exams
Really funny guy who wrote his own textbook. Only downfall of the class is that the TAs do all the grading so that is really all that matters. Pretty interesting material and I would recommend taking it.
He is a fairly boring lecturer, and this is coming from someone who absolutely loves international relations. However, if you get a good TF it is a fairly enjoyable class.
Keylor's great! Amazing professor -- interesting subject, and he's really straightforward. It's a big lecture, however, and so your grade in the class really depends on your TF. Time yourself well on the midterm and final, because they're both essay exams. Not too hard of a class if you do all of your workpay attention, and I loved it overall.
I took Keylor's IRHistory "IR from 1900-1945." Very clear lectures with cool powerpoints packed with information. Learned a lot. 1 short paper with a midterm and a final. The TAs grade the exams pretty harshly, and you have to go to discussion sections (mine was really boring), but the lecture section is worth it. He posts slides before exams too.
Interesting and smart Professor! Lectures are fun and fast-paced. But all the gradings are done by TAs so basically you have to know them to get a decent grade. Study hard, use the textbooks and do the readings.
Really good professor, uses slides which help, has interesting anecdotes
Uses his own textbook & a lot of people say the book contains everything from lectures. I only went to lecture and discussion and found it to be pretty easy. I would suggest going to lecture because it guarantees that you'll obtain the information. Having to read everything just makes you want to procrastinate.
Keylor demonstrates a remarkable passion for history, it is genuinely adorable when he gets excited during lecture. He possesses incredible command of content knowledge (quite literally wrote the textbook). The TFs do all the grading, and do not expect your voice to be heard in the massive lectures.
He's an amazing lecturer and I was always excited go to class to listen to him speak. His lectures were never boring, he was very knowledgeable on the content, and he would crack some silly jokes here and there. Grading is done by your discussion TA, so there's not much you can do about that. I'm a business major, but he made me enjoy history!
Prof. Keylor quite literally wrote the textbook for post-WWII world history. He REALLY knows the information-- and he has great anecdotes (stories, photos, audio clips) to share along the way. Lectures always flew by, felt like a privilege to be listening to him. Grade entirely dependent on TFs--they are TOUGH graders, but fair in the end.
He's retiring at the end of the year, so this won't be of much use to anyone, but Keylor was an amazing and incredibly knowledgeable professor. You could tell in his class that all the students really respected him!
