Killian was nifty... and made class fun... "Shootin' his shit"
great for a good laugh, very helpful in lab
This was the only time in my life that I did not hate chemistry
Very good teacher.
cool teach, I looked forward to class everyday, learned a lot
GREAT teacher; easy to talk to and makes class interesting and fun; hard subject tho
Killian is an awesome teacher- and really cool guy
The best professor I've ever had. Truthfully.
very good
pretty straight forward on stuff. He doesnt get tricky on test. do the homework from the book and you'll be fine.
Awesome prof!! Made material easy to understand. If you didn't understand it, he was willing to help you out.
He's a really good teacher. He explains things really well and he's willing to help you out.
the best chem teacher i ever had....explain things well...could be hard if you don't study...so STUDY and you'll be fine
He was sooo funny! Just listen and class and you'll come up with a zillion funny quotes. Unless you are a chem whiz you will have to study a bit, but the class was great!
very awesome guy, fun stories, makes class interesting, teaches well, but it's a tough course, so keep up and study lots!
great teacher, take him up on the ICT program. makes classes very fun. "what the hell would you get"-killian!!!!!
Made the material easy and clear. One of the best science teachers I have ever had. Requires a bit of studying, but if you pay attention, you'll be fine. Plus, he's funny!
By far one of the best profs at FSU. He's enthusiastic about the subjects he teaches and he explains things very well. The tests are actually over what he talks about in lecture and what's on the homework - no surprises. He's always around to help you.
Just plain awesome, no competition
Very good professor. Explains with clarity and tests are straight foward mostly from lecture notes. Makes class a comfortable atmoshphere and humurous. Old tests available which are helpful.
Very nice teacher, is always there to help out if you have a question.
his sense of humor keeps me interested. Do the Homework and you'll do fine.
He is a really good teacher and his tests are really easy. They are all multiple choice. The only problem is that he doesn't teach chem 122, so the next prof you have will be a lot harder. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T GET MRS. JACOBS FOR LAB!!
He's a nice guy. He's upbeat and keeps things interesing, and he actually made chem safety a little bit interesting. He's one of the better, if not best chem teacher at Ferris.
great teacher although talks a lot sometimes. I always look forward to going to class.
EXCELLENT PROF. keeps things entertaining. knows his stuff. don't let his sly personality fool you though, he tests are SUPER HARD!!!
This guy is the BEST. he's like the Richard Feynmann of Ferris State. he has a way of explaining things that will stick with you. his personality may trick you into thinking that he is not as qaulified as some of the PHD'ed profs... dont make that mistake , he is a genius.
I took AP chem going into this class, so it was easy for me to get an A. He teaches in simple terms, making it easy for students to learn. For most, tests are tricky but not over the top, ranges are high seventies (like most chem classes)but his tests are known to be aced if you know the material. Very helpful and a good guy, he is worth taking.
Very fun & interesting teacher. Material is explained really well, just show up for class everyday! Does plenty of examples in class. Is a funny guy, I loved his class. Tests arent that bad either. They can be a little tricky, just got to go over your notes and do the pracice problems in the book!
Amazing teacher. He really knows his stuff and is always willing to help out anyone. I would definitely recommend him to anyone if they have a chance to take him.
Killian is a great teacher. He covers everything that is going to be on his exams, and he will do anything to help out his students. Definitely reccomend taking him!!
Best professor I have ever had, always in his office, and prepares you very well for tests, which are all multiple choice and there are practice tests in the library...get them! great guy!!!
Bill killian is 'one hell of a guy' . Killian has an amazing sense of humor, and cares that you are learning. He adjusts to what you need. He doesn't work like any other instructor in that you will learn the material if you do what he asks, which is always fair. Get to know him, and things will go even smoother.
Professor Killian is awesome. The class itself is really hard (but it is chemistry), but he explains things pretty well. You HAVE to read the book and study to do good on the tests. His labs are really easy and fun.
AWESOME TEACHER! Killian is funny, helpful, and explains things really well. There are practice tests for all of his tests! Definitely recommend his class!
Killian was my favorite professor this semester. His classes are not mandatory, but if you want to succeed than you will attend them all. He has practice sessions before all his test, and they really help. I would def. recommend!
This was one of my favorite profs. He's super nice and helpful, and goes through his lecture step by step with examples instead of just reading off a powerpoint like most science profs.
Awesome teacher!
All around outstanding professor. He uses a mix of humor and demonstrations during the lecture, and you will really learn the material. He is very helpful too, if you do not understand something, he will explain it until you do.
Great professor. Uses the white board a lot. Best for students who learn best by simply practicing problems. The only book usage was for homework which was optional. Only grades were tests. No quizzes. No homework. Killian is also hilarious. He constantly uses this three meter stick to point to things and he slaps it very loudly. It's hilarious.
Look forward to taking Killian's classes everyday and it's so much fun. Just do your work, show up on time, and be honest and it's all good. He's also available outside of class for anything (even a different class) which helped me alot! :) Def went for ICT because of him.
AWESOME!!! i recommend him highly.
Killian is a great professor. To teach, he just uses the whiteboard and a marker. His excellent humor made me look forward to coming to class every morning. He is available one-on-one and takes a genuine interest in students who approach him. He wants to see you succeed and he makes it evident. It isn't an easy class though, you will have to study!
Super nice, all tests are multiple choice, no quizzes or extra credit though. I would take another of his classes in a heartbeat!
Most amazing teacher I have ever had. No reason not to pass his class. Tests aren't too hard, no quizzes or homework tho. Lab is easy and understandable and helpful. Recommended for sure! Get in his class if at all possible.
Definitely take Killian for Chemistry. Best General Chemistry teacher by far. Labs are a breeze, class is a blast. I actually looked forward to going because Dr. Killian is so hilarious.
Killian is hands down the best professor I've had. He is the reason I understand chemistry. He makes class interesting. He sounds like an athletic coach when he's teaching, and he's hilarious. I recommend his class to everyone.
Killian is a great professor! There are no quizzes and the homework is optional! Makes chemistry interesting and his teaching style makes you actually want to come to class!
Best professor at Ferris by far. He makes chemistry interesting. I actually enjoyed sitting through his class. He is a funny guy and really cares about his students and their success. I just wish that he taught 122.
Probably my favorite professor that I've had at Ferris. He makes lectures fun and is so helpful.
Takes the most difficult concepts and makes it sound easy to do. Very helpful.
Fun professor, even though the homework isn't required, I would suggest doing it. It helps a lot! He is always there to help if you have questions. Seems to really care about his students too!
He's probably my favorite professor so far. He's pretty funny, not monotone, and he is great at helping students. If you go to office hours or ask him questions during lab days, he will help you with no problem. He makes sure to use the book a lot since it is required to have and is expensive to buy.
Great teacher who really knows what he is talking about. He teaches what is on the test and is more than helpful in lab and lecture. He made difficult concepts easy to understand. His tests aren't that hard but if you aren't great with Chemistry then you should study.
One of my favorite professors as Ferris; definitely makes hard concepts easy to understand. He goes through the book for you and teaches faster and simpler ways. It is a tough subject so you have to study and do the homework, but he is always there to help you. Go to the room next to his office and you'll be sure to find a great study group.
Professor Killian has great energy while teaching his class. He suggests plenty of homework for each chapter, but I recommend reading the chapter as well and doing the sample problems within the text. I thought his tests were tough, but fair. Go to class and take plenty of notes. If you have questions, he's easy to approach and fun to talk to.
Comments on here are pretty accurate. I just had him for Chemistry 121 and he's a hell of a guy. Hilarious and very helpful (Had a 99% pre-final grade). Do the recommended problems he assigns and show up to class and you'll be fine. Too bad he doesn't teach Chem 122 or I would take him again in a heart beat.
He is an awesome professor. He is very funny and energetic during lectures. If you do the problems assigned and go to lectures you will do fine in his class. Also very willing to help you when you come to his office. I would take him for 122 if he was teaching it.
He was entertaining
Dr. Killian was a great teacher. Easy to understand and approachable outside class. He was very clear on what was expected and was an easy grader on labs.
Killian is an amazing professor that actually cares about his students. His tests are quite tough and need a lot of studying outside of class but he also gives you homework problems that are not due but very helpful for the test. He's a hilarious guy and actually cares a lot about his students and is always willing to help.
If you don't go to class regularly I promise you he'll notice, he's really entertaining, which is nice because lectures seem long, I wish he taught Chem 122, I'd definitely take him again
Great professor who really cares about his students. He's willing to help anyone who wants to put the work in. That being said there is a lot of work, but it's chemistry, so if you need to know the material it's all for your benefit. 4 exams, 1 final, and labs graded out of 10 points weekly. No graded homework. No power-points. Take good notes.
If I could take Killian again I ABSOLUTELY would. He really cares about his students and whether or not they are learning. His lectures are fun and easy to understand, just make sure you take good notes! If you have any questions his is available and loves to help!
WOW! THE BEST PROFESSOR IN THE GENREAL CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT! Even tho the course is very hard he will do everything possible to make you pass the class! if u can get him it will make ur life! HE IS THE BEST!
I took Chem 121 over the summer, so with it being a summer course jammed into 8 weeks I thought it was somewhat easy. You had to go to class, take notes, and pay attention in order to do well. The exams were right off of the notes and there was quizzes during lab each week. The homework was not mandatory. I thought he was a great professor.
He isn't accessible outside of class- my first day of class he said, "I don't have an office phone, I don't have an email if you want to get ahold of me come talk to me." and then he didn't show up to his own office hours. Had bronchitis and he told me not to come to class because I was contagious and still wouldn't let me make up an exam I missed.
Professor Killian is a great professor and he will doing anything to help you pass his class. Ignore that review from jan 26 2018. That person does not know what they are talking about.
Great guy!
Amazing professor, always offers extra help, however, don't skip class because you'll miss about 1 or 2 chapters which is major in the science field. Also, don't be late or he will crack jokes on you in front of the class and keep it pushing like nothing was ever said lol. He follows his syllabus exactly. Overall, I'm HORRIBLE at science & I passed
This is the nicest man ever. He gets to know his students and genuinely cares about their success. His lectures are very engaging, but it is still beneficial to read the textbook and do the optional homework he assigns.
I have never been very good at chemistry but Killian really made me enjoy it. He works hard to make sure all of his students are reaching their potential and will personally connect with as many as he can. Attendance isn't mandatory; however, skipping class will make tests 10x harder. If you have the chance to take a class with Killian, DO IT!
Professor Killian taught me chemistry, but more specifically he taught me to be a hard working disciplined student. Professor Killian schedules a one-on-one meeting with his students to discuss opportunities for improvement. He is a professor that supports the success of his students 110%. I owe my future successes to Professor Killian. Thank you!
Easy A class. Two pre-recorded lectures a week and homework that goes with it. Whole class takes 1-2 hours maximum a week. Two quizzes and a final project. Professor Killian cares about his students and lectures are engaging. Available outside of class. Would recommend taking him!
TAKE HIM! Hands down best professor I've ever had! Hilarious and keeps everything lighthearted. Goes over everything in detail. Really responsive to questions. No required homework but it really helps with the tests. Goes over past tests as review. Grade is based solely off of tests and lab but he lets you drop your lowest score. Completely offline
Dr. Killian is really a great professor. Chemistry is a hard class but his recap problems are very similar to the test so know how to do those. He gives past tests to practice, has 3 tests and the final and you can drop one test! Go to his office hours if you need help!
Professor Killian is overall a good professor. There are very few things graded, only exams and lab reports. He never took attendance but I felt it was very important to show up to lecture. Textbook is helpful for homework but homework is optional. If you're struggling, go to his office hours he is very helpful!
Dr. Killian is hilarious. He explains the content well. He grades on three tests, labs, and a final. He drops a lab and a test. He does not have Canvas, but is very approachable at his office hours. He has practices tests and gives out practice problems. He has has answers for the problems in his office. Do not sit in the back row. Test heavy.
Dr. Killian is a very funny and passionate man. The class might be a little difficult but he will do best to make sure you understand. You will need your textbook for this class to do practice questions (they are not mandatory) I would recommend this class to most people. He throws out one of the tests at the end of the year to help your grade.
LOVE Killian as a person but not so much as a teacher. He's super funny and jokes around a lot to the point where it's hard to fully understand the material. You will need the textbook to do the homework problems (not graded). The only things you're graded on are the tests and lab reports. In CHEM122, you won't know what's going on if you had him.
He is super caring! Get to know him as a person and you will be just fine.
I think some of the comments that are negative on here are older, and do not accurately describe his teaching in the modern day. He gives great online lectures and homework is taught and graded. He no longer does most of the general entry-level chemistry classes, and thus make sure you look at him for the classes you are taking specifically
Professor Killian doesn't use any sort of technology, so there was no canvas page. Nothing. The only way you could view your grade was to go to his office and ask him. Since he didn't use technology, there were also no resources outside of class besides the textbook. I know that's how it used to be, but it's still frustrating and such a hassle.
He is an awesome professor! He taught intro to chem labs and was fairly hands off during lab but clearly explained lab directions and was there if a question needed to be answered. Would definitely have him as a professor again
