one of the best teachers i've had here, grades hard, but discussions are great
how they ever picked this man to teach honors i don't know. space-cadet !!
Only piece of advice SWITCH TEACHERS NOW!
Let's just say he made me cry--not kidding :(
Hes hard but he is mad cool
knorpp is the man!! brillant people that dont do the work are the ones crying!

my favorite class and prof yet. challenging, but definitely worth it!
His heart is in the right place but he really confused me alot!
awesome teacher

I enjoyed the class, but it was kind of stream of consciousness...which is difficult to follow considering it is Knorpp we are talking about. He loves to debate and discuss current issues and hot topics.
all around good guy. Scatterbrained but funny and understanding. Like people to think outside the box and come up with original ideas. Good guy.. stick with him and work hard
Knorp is an amazing proffesor & an all around great guy. He's interesting, smart, & funny and made me want to go to class & work hard. He is definetly unique- but really challenges you to think in different ways & expand yourself. Two thumbs up!
Knorpp is...interesting. He's pretty unorganized, but you do come out having learned something, even if you don't realize it, just work hard.
wonderful man and teacher-understands what it is like to be a student...classes out early alot!
A little scatter brained but a great guy and teacher once you get used to him! Really funny.
Great Guy...very enthusiastic and creates a unique approach to philosophy seen in today's society with today's issues...really will make you think:)
Awful
Brilliant professor. Expects a lot, but gives much more back. Very humble, but incredibly knowledgable and grounded. Really cool to talk to outside of class as well. I worked really hard for him, but I gained so many life lessons beyond class materials.
Knorpp teaches in a stream of consciousness way which I couldn't follow to save my life. The class is over and I don't even know what I was supposed to learn. Very unclear about grading methods. Just...take someone else.
He is crazy! Very scatterbrained. Half the time wasn't sure if HE was in the right classroom.. insomniac.. yet they had him teaching critical thinking..? Very hard to follow. I'm not sure what I was supposed to learn. Take someone else if possible
He is very scatterbrained, but he is very willing to explain several times. He will never tell you you're idea or interpretation is wrong, but he will guide you towards his point without trying to persuade you. Very intellectually stimulating class.
not a bad professor at all, in fact, i liked him a lot most of the time. he is a bit scatterbrained, but he works hard to make sure everyone understands. i recommend this class.
Very good professor...I learned more from him than any other I've taken so far at JMU, a great course
Dr. Knorpp is one of the most helpful and smartest professors I've ever come across. He always makes his points very clear, and always welcomes his students' opinions. I will miss his teaching style after this semester is over.
Can be a bit of an ass...loves to hear himself talk, which got on my nerves. However, he'll occasionally renue your faith in him by saying something randomly funny. His tests aren't impossible, just study.
Knorpp is a great guy. Makes funny comments every once in a while. Go to class and do homework (most of the time at least) and you will get an A. Will be an easier class if you took gphil 101 first.
GREAT teacher. He writes up his own readings and posts them online before classes. They are extremely clear and teach you VERY efficiently and easily. Just do the exercises and definitely go to class. He is really good I promise
knorpp is a funny guy, scatterbrained but pretty straight foward with material. its a fair class, and if you do the work you can easily get at least a B.
scattered-brained, and hard to follow but nice a nice guy.
A very good professor. My class was mainly discussion, which was very enjoyable. He seemed to care a lot about his class. He is a very reasonable person.
Excellent class, definitely learned a lot about logic and philosophy. Knorpp will teach you a lot if you put in some work and the discussions are interesting. There is no attendance policy and you can get away with missing a bit. Highly reccomend.
Do not take him. He is the worst teacher I have had! Does not help, his tests are hard, but curves them a little. Grades way to hard, especially on the essays. If you have a choice, DON'T TAKE HIM!!!
Knorpp is a great teacher, and he tells you what the essays are going to be on, so you know what to study. An easy class if you are willing to put in alittle effort.
Likes to talk about the gf sometimes. Good teacher, respectfully argues with ya. Go to class and you should be good. It took him 2 wks before classes were over to learn my name. Don't be like me.
Amazing Prof.!
awesome, knorpp is great, a little strange at first, but he gets better as the semester goes on.
CONFUSING. Why an insomniac would teach critical thinking is beyond me. He's smart, and tries to relate to students, but a VERY UNCLEAR PROFESSOR, don't take him if you can help it.
This guy is like the coolest professor at JMU. Very laidback, approachable, and smart! The material is confusing and he gets really passionate about it, but if you re-read the material a couple times (because there isn't much) you'll be fine. Just two tests and a midterm. I highly recommend him!!
he is laid back and nice, but you really have to read the info over and over to understand it. his tests are hard-multiple choice where if you get it wrong you get points taken off and then you have essays. confusing information
great teacher, extremely intelligent. readings are a bit slow and extremely confusing. in order to really understand this material you have to read it a few times, then when you go to class ;) the lectures actually mean something. he loves to listen to students ideas. a tad hard, will make you think
bill is a really funny guy, at least his jokes always make me laugh. the material can be pretty confusing, but philosophy usually is. if study with other students before tests and study hard you will be fine. the people that do badly dont go to class and honestly you CAN't miss it
Prof Knorpp is a great teacher. The readings can be alittle confusing, but reading them more than once does help. He is very nice and always willing to clarify and questions you have. if you have the chance, definately take him! he's awesome!
Really great teacher, but difficult material. Asking questions in class and rereading the material really helps. He is very laid back and makes jokes in class.
Bill is a good guy who means well, but he can ramble sometimes. The readings are boring as hell, but he clarifies in class, for the most part, and he lets you re-read them so you really understand it. It's beyond me why he's so passionate about this stuff, but it's kinda funny.Take him, he's not bad.
This guy is great, extremely relaxed and smart. He's passionate about the material and loves it if you get involved. Attending class really is a must and you really need to reread the materal (though they're always short). Take good notes and read the stuff a few times and it's no problem.
This class is pretty hard, and the readings are somewhat boring and hard to understand. However, Professor Knorpp is such a friendly, funny guy, and he truly cares about students and philosophy. Go to class, ask questions, read the material 3 times as he says or more...and you should be fine.
Bottom line he's a good teacher. Intelligent,REALLY knows his stuff, and if you dont understand something he will go over it different ways until you do. Reading can be difficult but its usually not long and he explains everything in class. He likes to joke around and you really will learn something
No Comments
awesome awesome awesome!! but def do the readings.
One of the best teachers (and THE funniest) I have ever had. he is charming and super smart. Love this guy. I vote Knorpp for president.
He really makes my day sometimes. He's easy to get along with, funny, and understanding. But you have to do the reading. The material is kind of hard and he expects you to do well.
By far my favorite professor since i got to JMU. Hilarious, very clear, and very helpful. He keeps you interested with random jokes but actually stays on topic quite well considering the random questions people ask. I loved this class. The tests are not tricky and are fairly easy to study for. As long as you come to class and study, you can get B+
Great
Very cool guy and very helpful. Material can be hard to grasp at first but he explains it very well in class. If you go to class and read the material multiple times you have a chance to get an A. Material though is extremely interesting and was one of my favorite classes this year. He's really funny too and passionate about what he teaches.
sexy in glasses. passionate about material. 4 exams. great teacher. enthusiastic, not boring. really really helpful. expects you to be prepared to class and do readings...so do them! great at explaining readings.
Good professor.willing to help.4 exams (willing to drop one if everyone does poorly)Lots of difficult reading, but he explains it well in class. It helps that he is entertaining and uses cartoons to explain things.Hated phil. going into it, but it turned out okay! highly recommended
Very thorough in explanations, good use of cartoons for examples, engages class in worthwhile discussion, does not push his opinions too much, great sense of humor and passionate about the subject....great prof-highly recommended!
Such a great professor! Incredibly intelligent and very good at getting the material across. You can tell he's passionate about what he does. It is somewhat hard to concentrate in class when he looks so good and you just want to do naughty things to him...
he asked us not to bring this out of class, but he admitted to watching Jurassic Park over 30 times; not because he enjoys the movie, but because he loves dinosaurs. i also heard he missed class on one unfortunate occasion because he was hit by a car while riding his bike to class. that is all.
Great Philosophy teacher. My first Philosophy class and he made the material really easy to understand. Breaks it down and gives hilarious examples to make sure everyone understands. Not heavy reading. Optional papers. Awesome guy, so funny. Take him, definitely.
uhh I went to class everyday, got a smooth D...sweet
great guy. really loves the material and as long as you go to class you'll do fine. doesnt give quizzes or take attendance but go to class to do well on the exams. four exams, none are cummulative. made a B+ for the year. fun when he shouts and bangs on things, makes the class laugh. tries really hard to make sure u get the material.really nice guy
Best teacher I've ever had.
I wish all professors had his kind of passion. From banging on desks when he gets really excited to stepping back from the board and saying, "So...say something smart about that." Fanastic. Sometimes takes him awhile to find a way to explain the material, but loves discussion and will attempt to answer all questions. Gets you really into it. Take
Best teacher I've had at Madison... inspired me to take up a philosophy major.
Amazing, amazing. His main goal is to enable the material to resonate with the students. He allows the students to direct discussion, while providing insight along the way. Passionate, fair, sarcastic at times, and too humble to realize how awesome he really is. If you value knowledge at all, learn from this man.
AWESOME teacher, AWESOME guy. You can tell that he really loves philosophy and teaching which automatically captures your interest. If you're not willing to do the readings (short) and actually think about what they're proposing, this is NOT the class for you. Knorpp is AWESOME and I would TOTALLY recommend him. PS- SO MUCH YOUNGER than you think!
Ok, so this stuff is pretty interesting. And Dr. Knorpp is ridiculously brilliant (and perhaps even more ridiculously modest). However, the tests can really throw you for a loop, even if you do all the reading. Office hours are a necessity.
His teaching style is difficult to follow, his notes and thoughts are all over the place, and he rarely labels his diagrams. He spent a large portion of class talking about how JMU is such a 'party school' and telling us we weren't trying hard enough. Hard, essay-style tests make up your grade. Good luck to those who dare to take him...
DO NOT take this class! You will hate your life. This man may seem really awesome, but then you realize that he's awful. If you know the material like the back of your hand but don't write it the way he thinks you should on the test, you're screwed and he WILL fail you. Seriously, stay away from this dude.
Bill is the man, it doesn't take much work to do well in his class, you just have to use your brain which some of you are clearly incapable of as I have found this of many students in his classes (although not most), the higher up the class the more interested and committed the students. I take his classes for fun
This class wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Knorpp tries really hard to get you to understand. If you go to class everyday (and you should), you can just regurgitate your notes onto the test and get an A. Overall, a cool guy.
yells things while teaching because he gets very passionate about it. nice&funny guy. wants students to understand the material & willing to help. I admit I HATED this class at first, thought it was the worst gphil isn't easy u really hav to know your stuff. make sure you READ the material. if you HAVE to take gphil, take him
Clear with his lectures, but when it comes to tests, if you write two perfect essays and get two multiply choice questions wrong, you get a B. Miss 2 more, a C. Something is wrong with that. Also, he avoids questions about grades like the plague. Even if he agrees with your challenge, he wont give you points back because he can't admit being wrong
That previous commenter is full of crap! Like ten times he told us to go to him with ANY grading questions. He changed my friend's grade right away when he found an error. But made it clear he wouldn't tolerate whiny student just trying to pump up grades. Even has a "no whining" policy in syllabus ha ha!
Extremely clear, goes out of his way to be fair, can relate to students. Challenging--not an easy course! But you will learn a lot and learn to be a better thinker.
only grades for the class are 4 tests. pretty cool guy, gets lost in his thoughts though but pretty interesting, passionate about material and wants to make sure you understand it.. he urges you to come see him during office hours and VERY fair
This course makes you think.
Readings are challenging and interesting. Course forces you to think. No busy work, homework or mandatory attendance, but you have to keep up with the work or the exams will kill you. If you want an easy class, this one probably isn't for you.
He is a total nut job. Can't keep his thoughts clear and acts like he is one of the students in class. He addmitted in class he has no clue how to teach which is not comforting, however, he does a good job at teaching the material. Grading however, is a different story. He can not admit he is wrong even if he is, and your grade will suffer.
Terrible teacher. Rumor has it he was fired from teaching at William and Mary. JMU should also get rid of this man. Maybe his youth is the reason for his arrogance but he has a lot to learn about being a respectable teacher.
Material is interesting, but philosophy is just pretty hard. Prof will admit he's wrong...but some students won't, unfortunately. You know the type. Prof does need to be better at making those students shut up.
Tough but fair. If you work and go to class, you'll learn a lot.
Best prof I've ever had here at JMU. He can be a bit tough, but what do you expect? It's philosophy! If you don't want to think or put forth any effort, then please don't take him so that others who DO want to think can have the chance to take him.
The class was interesting, and it really changed how I look at things. Prof very fair and approachable.
The class really teaches you how to reason clearly. Professor really knows how to relate to students.
Very interesting class.
Philosophy really makes you think. It takes some getting used to--it's not like most other classes you've had before. But it's really interesting.
Good class. Very interesting.
I think this class really helped me learn to think more logically.
Very nice guy... very helpful and clear about what he wants us to know. He is so passionate about philosophy that he will often beat on the table during lecture! Don't be afraid... this class will make you think but it will also teach you to analyze in a way that will be useful in every class at JMU. Take him!!!
He is a very smart man and tries his best to make something that could have been fundamentally boring interesting.
Knorppie is such a great and funny guy. I would recommend this class to anyone; he really looks out and cares for his students. Very quirky but extremely insightful. =]
Not your average GenEd class. Kind of hard, but interesting and worth the effort.
Knorpp is a funny guy. He talks in circles, and sometimes it gets confusing, but by the time the test comes you know your stuff. Some people thought this class was hard, but I didn't think so. I would recommend him.
Professor Knorpp is easily the best teacher I've had at JMU and other universities I've attended. He's passionate about philosophy, and that comes across in his teaching. Challenging courses, but they are all what you make of them.
attendance is not mandatory but you definitely should go if you want to understand the material. hardest class at jmu. expects you to teach yourself and then come to class with questions. totally irrelevant to life. he rudely snapped at a girl in the middle of a lecture and she dropped the course because of it. HATED THIS CLASS
Strange person in general. He has insomnia and attributes a lot of his pitfalls to it. The class is a waste. We all had to special order a book that we never used. He'll spend two whole class periods talking about one LSAT question. He ONLY has test grades, there is no homework/small assignment buffer. Not very good, quite boring.
This class is ridiculous. He has insomnia and uses it as an excuse for his incapability to answer ANY questions. He pushed back our test because his insomnia caused him to forget his material. Also, he only has 2 hours of office hours so if you need help and your classes conflict with the time your screwed. Cool guy but HORRIBLE professor.

Very often expressed disappointment when the class couldn't answer difficult questions regarding reading material he never even explained. Berated students for cell phones... before class had even started! Incomprehensible lectures (especially his handwriting), poor explanations, difficult all-written exams. Poor example of JMU's amazing Phil dept!
Good man, terrible teacher. He's awful at explaining things and often refuses to answer questions that require him to think too much. If you're really passionate about philosophy then take this class but if you just need this as a gen-ed look elsewhere, seriously. His tests are also very difficult.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS! the tests are hard and he doesn't have a clue about what he wants to teach the class. Asks repeatedly what we want instead of teaching the material that we need to know.
If you take this class at least do yourself a favor and dont do a MWF class otherwise you wont go. He talks in circles, doesnt have a definite reading plan or plan in general. Randomly cancels class and is very disorganized. grade based on 4 tests and grades harshly. Should expect a B in the class at least if you study before exams.
This guy sucks. I'm like four weeks in to this class and i have no idea whats going on. Makes the reading himself. I studied for his test for 3 hours and got a d. I hate him
He was very unorganized. One time I got an email from him saying that he couldn't grade our exams because he locked himself out of his office! This is the first time I've ever received a D and I studied before every exam. I do not recommend him.
He seems like a nice enough guy but honestly, I'm not sure why he's rated so high. I took 2 philosophy classes that were'nt too bad. I never thought a similar class could be so hard. Knorpp is disorganized and the whole grade is based solely on 4 exams, which are graded harshly. He doens't believe in extra credit and won't answer most questions.
I'm not gonna lie, Knorrp is a nice man but RUN FAR AWAY FROM THIS CLASS!!!! The material is as deadly as black mamba venom to the heart! If it wasn't for him adjusting everyones grades I would of surely made a D- instead of a C-, nice man but DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM. Low tech lecture teaching style that can be very boring over 50 minutes!
Nice guy and all, but too hard of a teacher. He's all over the place during class and get so off topic. His tests are semi hard, but you really need to study for them. Do the readings, because if you dont you wont do good in class. Its hard to tell what he wants you to take as notes at times, but he's nice and willing to help if you need it.
He seems like a pretty cool guy but the fact that the material can get pretty mundane + no required attendance makes it reeeeally hard to actually go to class. Also tends to get mad when no one has comments, which can be awkward. Also, this class is not an easy A, but then again I skip often and don't read all the material, and have a C.
Dr. Knorpp is a nice man and all, however his class is boing, and very incomprehensible. All of the material he lectures on, he most of the time cannot explain at all. Readings are hard, but short. On a good note, he curves the tests usually.....
nice guy, the class is hard to follow though. you really need to do the readings and study a lot for the tests. wording is kind of tricky. not an easy A at all
His class has difficult, somewhat abstract material. Knorpp does a great job guiding us through the content. Knorpp is arguably the smartest person I've met in my life, but he's so humble and doesn't even acknowledge his intelligence. He gives fantastic criticism on essays, and grades them very fairly. cares a lot about the students and philosophy.
Seems to talk just out of his own opinion alot, and seems scattered sometimes
This class can be pretty boring, but it is manageable. Knorpp likes to talk a lot, but sometimes he gets confused about what he's saying. Overall, he's a nice guy and the class is alright.
Very unorganized and awkward... I feel like I've learned nothing 5 weeks into class. Now I'm hearing the tests are difficult? We've barely learned anything. Great. I would avoid him.
AVOID! this was supposed to be an Honors class...instead it was the biggest joke of a class. Awful professor, didn't learn a thing in his class yet I'm borderline failing. I do the HW, i show up to class, but if you miss just a few questions on the short test you're toast. he makes simple concepts too confusing. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
I took a few classes with Knorpp. He covers difficult but very interesting topics. Mostly papers; in the two classes I took there was one test, and his study guide outlined exactly what was on it. As long as your papers are clear and you let him proofread them before you turn them in, you'll get an A. Must do the readings.
Not a bad professor, but pretty hard to be honest. There aren't a lot of grades (few pop quizzes and I believe 3 tests). He's kind of a strange character. You'll probably find him weird at first but he'll grow on you. Just keep up with reading as much as possible and hes always willing to help
Dr. Knorpp is a great guy and will be more lenient towards you if he sees that you're working hard (i.e. go to office hours and participate in class). The content is kind of boring and you'll either get it or won't. If you don't get it, don't drop the class. His grading policy is pretty easy. Beware of pop quizzes. Rarely has Friday classes.
He's funny and likes to be active in lecture, other than that he was unclear, his readings were lengthyconfusing, and his tests were open-ended. If you're someone who never speaks in classnot a big readernot a hard worker do NOT take this class. However, if you stress that youthe whole class needs help he'll do anything he can at the VERY end.
Okay. I started out the year really not liking this guy; seemed all over the place. But by about a month in I really liked Knorpp. His random pop quizzes can be difficult and you've really gotta study for the tests. But if you're struggling, GO TO OFFICE HOURS!! He is very friendly and helpful, if a little spacey sometimes
The subject itself is difficult, but he is a really good teacher. He is really helpful during office hours if you ask the right questions. If you don't understand the reading don't sweat it. His lectures really clarify any reading assignments. He is a pretty funny guy. Not many tests or quizzes. You get class off every other Friday!!
The class can be challenging because it is one of those topics that you either understand or you don't. But, Knorpp will help you the entire way. There are 3 exams all semester and he gives you study guides that say exactly what will be on the test. Very interesting class, my favorite one of the semester.
He once sent out a class email starting with "Yo, so..." He says whatevs in his lectures. He allows you to prove him wrong. You will have to try. HARD. But he encourages open thought and deep thinking, hes fun and interesting, and his topics are really intriguing!. Class is optional, but the readings make/break your grade. Use study guides!
Very interesting topics and discussions, but you get long readings and have to read about three times to understand them. Pop quizzes, but if you read you'll do fine. He gave us every other Friday off, he is chill and smart. Tests are not bad if you study and understand it, and he is helpful during office hours. discussion based, some notes
Knorrp was a great professor. The class was really interesting, but it's definitely difficult; if you don't do the reading, you're not gonna understand a word of what goes on in class, and the tests are based off of the discussion. He's very clear about what he wants from you, but actually giving it to him takes quite a bit of effort.
Please visit him during office hours, he'll make it work, it's worth the time, and he'll definitely will appreciate it! Don't skip because grades are almost all based off lectures. It's the type of class where participation is vital and conversation really creates the atmosphere. Very interesting course and professor, would highly recommend.
Some of the readings are long, but he makes it worthwhile. I was dreading taking a philosophy class and it ended up being my favorite of the semester. He is so passionate about what he teaches, and that helps keep you interested. Only three tests, all based off lecture. Gives you a study guide telling you exactly what to study. Definitely take him.
Looking back on this class, I can honestly say that this man helped shape me into a better college student. Because of him, my way of approaching other classes has improved so much since my first semester of college. He is absolutely brilliant, and you will get so much out of this class if you put in the effort. I hope I can take him again.
This guy has way too much energy, and he does not use it well. Often in the middle of class, he will slam the lectern on the table and shout "DO YOU GET IT??". In addition, when students ask questions, he will often blatantly say that he is going to ignore it because he doesn't know. Also, he missed our final completely...
Knorpp ended up being a cool guy. Some of the readings were boring and some of the topics could be difficult to understand. He doesn't care if you come to class, but it is hard to understand the material without going to his lectures. The tests were semi-hard, but if you took good notes and study they're doable.
I really enjoyed this class and would definitely take Knorpp for another PHIL class. Although attendance is not mandatory, coming to class is very beneficial because the notes you take in class very helpful for the exams. Knorpp can be kinda crazy sometimes, but it made class interesting. Cool dude!
He is a great teacher, but his lectures can be confusing at times. Would recommend going to class and you won't have a problem! Everything that is on the test is clearly gone over in class. Practice LSAT questions and worksheets he hands out and it should be an easy A.
I thought this class was dumb and I hated Knorpp when it first started, but it ended up being my favorite class and favorite professor. You'll gain a lot out of this class if you let it and you can get an A if you do the work (which there really wasn't that much). Just go to class! He's a pretty funny guy and you'll have a good time.
Tests are COMPLETELY based on the lecture, so even though attendance is not mandatory you need to go! Also he randomly bangs on the table and walls in mid-sentence for no apparent reason. He is kinda chill, but don't argue with him because he'll go off on a tangent for the rest of the class. OK professor, but you should probably take another.
I took a survey of Wittgenstein with Dr. Knorpp, and the class was great. Knorpp is the master of leading students to logical conclusions on their own on difficult topics. Knorpp's comments on my papers caused me to become a better, more concise writer. Hilarious and probably insane, Dr. Knorpp will make your collegiate classroom experience fun.
Professor Knorpp was honestly a good guy BUT the exam questions were exactly what I had studied in my notes word for word, but I got a 58. When I talked to him about it he told me to either withdraw from the class or stop coming and fail because I wasn't going to pass nothing about what I did right or wrong. I ended up withdrawing. Best choice ever
Professor Knorpp is an A+ professor. While some aspects of his teaching may seem like a waste of time it all comes together to ultimately help you. He doesn't so much focus on teaching new material, but rather helps you learn to reason about things you already know which can help you do the same for the unknown. Again A+ professor!
This class was pretty hard for a Gen Ed. I tried my best to practice material but there was no actual textbook for the class, only an LSAT Test-prep book. Hard to understand during class because he yells randomly and discussions can get off topic. Actually read the dialogues he gives for homework because there are some random quizzes.
Prof Knorpp gets extremely off topic during lecture which is where he would just go over the reading that you had for homework while adding his views and counter arguments that would be on the test. He is basically impossible to get a hold of and the tests are impossible.
He likes to lecture but also like to have the students ask questions during the lectures. He doesn't let you have time to process the material when he wants you to ask questions. If you don't understand the material don;t go to his office hours because he will tell you to reread the module. He doesn't explain things well either. NOT A GOOD PROF.
Contrary to the other person below, I didnt think Knorpp was a bad professor. I took his antics as a sign of passion about what he taught. While I couldnt greatly get into the course material, this course has a bigger picture in mind. Its honestly quite easy if you are good at taking notes. didnt read the modules because he stopped pop quiz.
Took him freshman year and hes was the worst professor I ever had. Honestly thought he was on drugs. He told other students others grades in the class then denied it. So terrible. He was completely out of his mind. Would always yell about the voices in the building.
Dr. Knorpp is a good professor. He is passionate about philosophy. However, the way his teaching might make you feel confused at first. Still, be respectful to him, because he tries really hard to make his class hilarious. Even the attendance is not mandatory, you should still go to his class because the tests are basically about what he is saying.
There is no attendance policy, but there are pop quizzes and the material is hard to understand without showing up. He yells a lot and seems all over the place with his lectures. Not a lot of time to process the material and he just expects you to talk. He is not the best when it comes to asking for extra help and is a tough grader.
Really weird & funny guy! Keeps you awake / attention by speaking louder. He's very passionate about the theories and will explain until you get it. Provides good study guides and it helps to go to class to get the notes
Dr. Knorpp is an amazing professor and person. His classes always get me to think in ways I never thought before, and I always feel like a smarter person after his classes. The philosophy classes I have taken have helped me become a better reader, writer, and thinker, and I attribute a lot of that to Dr. Knorpp being the instructor.
The man is an absolute genius, I took every class with him that I could! He makes subjects more interesting than other professors teaching the same classes straight from the textbook. He's a little crazy but teaches you to read/think/speak for yourself - valuable in the long run! This is the type of prof & class that is worth your tuition money!
He makes you buy a course-pack, as well as print out assignments before every class. His handwriting is hard to read, and he tends to be easily distracted. His class is bearable but very very boring.
He makes you buy this course pack and another book and they are confusing. He also makes you print stuff out to bring to class. I barely showed up to class since attendance wasn't mandatory and he is so so so boring. If you have a choice between this class and any other Phil class, take a different class and save yourself.
You have to buy a course pack and another textbook in order to help you pass the class. I barely went to class and passed since all you need to do is keep up with the reading. Lectures are decent, but he is unorganized and very very boring. If you have the option to take a different Phil class, take that instead.
I enjoyed Prof. Knorpp's class very much. He assigns homework almost every night consisting of readings, LSAT problems, and other practice problems. The class is lecture-oriented and he is fairly disorganized, but you still get everything you need by listening and taking basic notes. The tests are the same as the activities with no surprises.
Random pop quizzes, random lectures, just all over the place. Knorpp isn't a bad professor, just unorganized. Tests are a bit tricky, and he's not the best explainer.
Really hated this class but he wants everyone to get involved and pass so at least he tries.
Had to buy a course pack while still printing dozens of pages a week to bring to class. He's not great at explaining things, and I was confused most of the semester. Philosophy is a tricky subject and he goes all over the place, but he really tries and is passionate!! I just used common sense to get good grades. DON'T USE YOUR PHONE IN CLASS.
this class is easy, but I wouldn't reccomend Knorp. his lectures are so boring and the tests are not reflective of the material learned. Definitely not the worst professor ive had, but theres way better philosophy teachers here.
prof Knorpp can be boring at times but is really chill and his class is pretty easy. yes there is hw but you dont always have to complete the dialogues bc you do it in class anyway. there is no turn in hw so its for you. you can miss class but I wouldn't too much bc it can definitely get confusing if youre not there. short tests not too bad
DONT TAKE HIM IF YOU DONT HAVE TO! The lectures are so unorganized which makes grasping any material very difficult. Your grade is made up of two tests and the final which he grades very harshly. He is not very approachable which made participating in class and going to him for office hours very difficult.
Everything that he puts on the study guide is on the test and If you actually go to class its is pretty self explanatory
DO NOT take this class with Knorrp if you don't have to. He is extremely unorganized, and unapproachable. Strict phone policy, 10 points off your final grade if he sees your phone out. Likes to shout "Did you get that?" at his students after he's explained something, which honestly became comical. Two tests & a final make up your grade. DO NOT TAKE
Knorpp is a good guy that wants students to know the basics about the class. He gives a very clear message of exactly what he wants students to know from the material and provides plenty of exercises to practice. His lectures aren't the best, but GO TO OFFICE HOURS if there is anything unclear. Only bad thing is there are very few grades.
Do not take this professor. Extremely unorganized and unapproachable. Gives a ton of pop quizzes and is a harsh grader when it comes to exams. His lectures are boring and he expects you to know the material after flying through the lectures. I recommend taking this class with another professor.
Such an awkward professor and didn't teach me a single thing. Literally yells at students randomly during lectures and doesn't seem to know what he's talking about. Avoid him. Only good thing I can say is his tests are somewhat easy because the study guides he gives out are the exact same essay questions on the tests. DONT USE PHONE IN CLASS!
Prof. Knorpp is not a bad guy, he wants his students to think out of the box. Gives pop quizzes on homework assingments. 2 tests and a final, the test you really have to study for. Not a horrible class but the 50 minutes feel like a lifetime.
Do not take. Does not understand how to relate to students who lack a broad philosophical background.
Do not take Knorpp's class if avoidable! Attendance is optional but he gives quizzes basically every class period on assignments that we never reviewed in class first. He is not very accessible for office hours and does not allow questions the week of the exams. If you do the work and go to class you will pass but this is far from an easy A.
If a review says 120 on it, don't trust it. If you are serious about wanting to learn Philosophy, Dr. Knorpp is the professor for you. His class is hard, but its the best way to engage the material. You must be prepared each day by having read the assigned material, if you're not prepared he will not be happy. His class was well worth the time.
Knorpp is a good guy, but the class is so confusing! He lectures with no clear agenda and has a very difficult time understanding answers to questions that aren't in the same wording he had in his head. His lectures are pretty boring and truly aren't super relevant to the exam material. I don't fault him for this, but he REALLY struggles with zoom.
He doesn't know how to work zoom, and he never comes to class prepared. His lectures are super confusing and sometimes make no sense. It is an easy A, but super confusing and will never understand the material. DO NOT take his class.
My class was entirely online. He didn't know how to work Zoom and had trouble using technology. He was unprepared for some classes and the lectures were confusing. You don't need to go to class nor do any of the work. Its an easy A, but you come out of the class knowing less than when you went in.
Do not take this teacher's class! I took it online and he didn't know how to work the technology or Zoom; understandable in the beginning of the semester, but the ENTIRE semester? Doesn't explain things too well, can be pretty confusing, and is usually unprepared for class. You'll never understand what you're learning, but a pretty easy A.
Professor Knorpp is a great guy. He struggled with Zoom a lot which made class slow, but he is genuinely approachable, and he cares for his students. Many of my friends also say his classes are better and better the more advanced you get in his department. He appreciates interaction, so speak up! It's an easy A and can be interesting if you engage!
Knorpp is a great guy and loves what he is doing. He is passionate about his work. Unfortunately if you do not understand or have never taken philosophy this WILL COME HARD and he does not understand that. He's lectures are confusing and difficult to understand. I do not recommend this class.. pick something else from this cluster!
The only grades that you receive are the 3 tests that he gives. His lectures are confusing and does not teach very well. I do not recommend taking this class.
Absolutely do NOT take this class. He gives you no opportunities to get your grade up only gives tests and no extra credit. I have struggled the entire semester and there is nothing he does to help. Defiantly do not take him if at all possible.
For Professor Knorpp, online teaching is not his thing. He only uses grades from 3 exams for the entire semesters grade. All of his lectures are the same and would kick you out of zoom if you had your camera off. Never shows his face either. He seems pretty genuine and has small sense of humor but overall not great. Really hard exams too.
Couldn't advise against taking this class enough. The entire semester grade is based on 3 tests with 15-20 questions each and no homework or extra credit to makeup for poor test grades. Lectures are slow and repetitive. He is very passive aggressive and doesn't respond kindly in emails and is very impatient. Way too hard for a gened DO NOT TAKE HIM
Avoid this class if you can. He is very passionate about philosophy but doesn't teach very well. Lectures are slow and very repetitive. He is also very rude when emailing you back and will even ignore you unless you double email him. AVOID THIS CLASS IF YOU CAN. Worst professor to have for this class.
So if you want to take an easy Gened, don't take this course or this teacher. He makes you work HARD for a good grade. But that depends only on the three exams he gives you since you don't have HW or quizzes worth more than 3 points. His lectures are all over the place, but he's a funny guy. try your best and youll get probably a B
Go to class and you will do well. The things he teaches is really hard to learn from a book or a youtube video, and he makes things way easier to interpret in person. The more you go to class the better you will do.
Knorpp's class could feel a little slow or boring at times, but he is a nice guy and is clearly very into philosophy himself. From my experience in the class, some people felt that it was extremely difficult and other blew through with ease. The material just comes naturally to some people.
He is such a difficult person. He can be very blunt and not care about anything. His class is only composed of exams, no HW or other assignments. His exams are difficult and lectures are boring.
made philosophy way harder then it needed to be. I would not take him again. He is literally the worst. He always complains when people do not show up or they are not prepare. Went on strike because he forgot to post an assignment and got very mad when no one did it.
It took some time to understand the best way to learn from his lectures but if you show up and take notes you'll be fine. He gets very sensitive about doing the homework or being on your phone so definitely never look at your phone during class or he'll call you out in front of everybody.
Knorpp is strict, easily frustrated, and frankly, a boring lecturer. That being said, he is erudite and enthusiastic about Philosophy. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it'll be difficult to pass if you don't pay attention to the material. Gives pop quizzes that function like extra credit. Avoid if possible but not the end of the world if you can't.
Knorpp is nice, funny, but very passive-aggressive. I asked him about an email and he gave me a snarky remark. He assumes you should just know everything he knows. The tests are straightforward as long as you go to class. Too technical for a gen-ed, but if you understand his mind, you will do great.
Prof Knorpp is definitely one of the most unique professors on this campus. Sometimes, his lectures can drag on and be incredibly boring, but some days it can be some of the most interesting information your brain has ever processed (albeit very rarely). He only grades you based on 3 or 4 exams throughout the entire semester, as well, which stinks.
He is a horrible teacher. His lectures make no sense and there is no homework that is graded but you have to do it to understand what is happening. The only grades are exams and they are short and very hard. He also goes off topic a lot and talks very slow. He told me that I wasn't going to pass the class. Not motivational at all.
Attendance is not mandatory, but you need to go to pass the tests. The homeworks are long readings every day, and are necessary for the tests. He will give you one question quizzes based completely on the homeworks that count as grades toward the tests. His lectures are confusing and all over the place, and doesn't answer questions.
Hard class for absolutely no reason as most take it as a gen ed. Admitted multiple times, he was unprepared for class. Random pop quizzes that will screw your grade over. Exams are complicated and you have to understand his mind to get a good grade. He writes all the assigned readings so good luck. Would not take him again
Knorpp is so unorganized. He does not teach anything useful in class. The only grades you have are exams, and sometimes a pop quiz. The pop quizzes only affect your grade if you come to class and take them. If you dont go to class and miss a quiz it doesn't matter. The tests are so hard he always has to curse our grades to get the ave to C-.
Knorpp's class was unnecessarily hard for a Gen-Ed requirement. The only grades you will have are the exams and random pop quizzes that will drop your grade. He was constantly un-prepared, rambled throughout the lectures, and you'll only understand the class if you understand how his brain works. It was a -100/10 experience, don't take it.
Prof. Knorpp is passionate about philosophy, but tends to go off on tangents about what he's talking about. He is very smart but it can be hard to keep up with the material if you don't complete the readings and homework. Overall he's an average professor and never had any quarrels with him throughout the semester. Class consists of 4 exam grades.
-Pop quizzes the first month of the semester so attend those. -Lectures are drawn out and boring and usually result in him droning on about trivial concepts rather than talking about the files he provides in canvas that explain what he plans to test you on. Also bad at answering Q's. -NO PHONE POLICY- he'll deduct a letter grade if he sees any.
Knorpp is a very nice man and very into philosophy, however his lectures tend to be all over the place which leaves many students confused. His class is graded only by 4 exams taken throughout the semester which he sometimes curved if students did not do well. There is homework for every class but they will help you learn the material, so do them.
The class was overall pretty interesting but he tended to ramble on the same subject for way too long. Attendance wasn't required but he did give pop quizzes on readings. The readings weren't bad, you do well on the quizzes as long as you do them. I personally did well on the exams but I know others struggled with them, so he did curve the grades.
Professor Knorpp encouraged me to think for myself and as a result I got so much more out of his class than just a letter grade. He explains concepts clearly in lecture and provides valuable feedback on assignments that will help you improve your writing and thinking abilities. I would recommend his classes to anyone.
Knorpp is incredibly difficult to work with. He has difficult but consistent tests. Pop quizzes are common. I wouldn't recommend taking him for this Gen Ed.
Proffessor Knorpp may be ok as a person but as a teacher he isn't great. His lecutures are boring and drug out. His tests are way harder than the material learned in class. Only 4 tests are factored into grade so you need to do well in order to pass. Way to drug out for a gen ed class.
I've taken a number of his classes and the organization of the class is always the same. There's readings (do them, they make going to class fun), go to class, fight about the reading, take *maybe* two exams and write *maybe* two papers. Visit his office hours, even if just to hang out. He's funny, kind, respectful, and relatable.
Professor Knorpp is a freaking genius but man this class was just boring. Every class it's do a reading and then go analyze its basic themes for an hour. We had two papers to write that had intentionally confusing themes, but he is a big help in understanding them. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. Maybe philosophy is just not for me I guess.
Knorpp is a decent professor. It's philosophy, so it can really only get so interesting. He has a really strict no technology rule, and he will drop you an entire letter grade if he catches you. He's pretty honest, so you'll always know what he actually means. There are a lot of readings and pop quizzes, so it's pretty reading heavy. OK overall.
Great teacher. Very chaotic classes but in the best way possible. Really seems to care and wants the best for everyone.
He could've been worse, however I don't think I'd take the class again. The homework was optional but I usually did fine if I just went to class every day. He's not really mean and I could tell that he wanted us to succeed in the class, it was just really really dull a lot of the time
This guy does not use a microphone which is awful cause you're in a lecture hall. Also he uses so many filler words that it takes the entire class to pick out which two sentences are actually important to remember. Test had me cooked already even though I thought I did decent so I guess he is a difficult grader.
His class is really hard to sit through if you have trouble paying attention. He tends to go on tangents and half the time does not talk about things on the test. He is also super quiet and doesn't use a microphone. Knorpp typically starts lecturing as students are unpacking which makes hearing him even harder.
Professor Knorpp's PHIL120 class can be pretty dry, but using tools like unstuckstudy ai alongside the readings helped me stay engaged. Strict no-tech policy, but worth it for the fair grading system.
Tests didn't connect to anything in the lectures and would randomly hit the wall and shout. He talked about dinosaurs more than philosophy and was unhelpful in office hours. No extra credit and only 4 exams. Wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.
Don't take this class. It may seem easy but he makes it hard for no reason at all, I've used the $70 textbook once and learned nothing. He only grades by 4 exams and pop quizzes. I don't even think he knows what he is talking about half the time. He never answers questions that students have and isn't helpful in office hours.
You have to do the readings to do good if you keep up with the readings you will do good on pop quizzes they are not hard. He is a good professor kind of boring but exams are fair and questions on it are not as hard as some practice we did in class. Your grade depends on what you do on the exams because he only grades those and the pop quizzes.
He was ok. He sometimes didn't make sense and would blame the students when everyone does bad on an exam. Though he gave extra points because everybody basically fails his tests, there are only 4 grades + random pop quizzes that you have to do the reading in order to understand them. He isn't terrible but I'd recommend someone else.
This guy is dookie dog water, his lectures make no sense and he always goes on crazy long tangents. WWII annd Nazi's are always a topic in his class for some reason.
Wouldn't make my worst enemy take this professor. None of his lectures are about the subject and he just goes on useless tangents. Not only that but he is so passive aggressive and rude to students. Oh, and he makes the class unnecessarily hard for a gen ed and gets upset when students don't understand his sloppy lectures. Please take anyone else.
Quite possibly the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire 13 years of school. I have to take this class for general education or else I would've dropped it. He does not actually teach what is on the test (because he doesn't even know what he is talking about) and he gets mad when you don't read but gives no instructions at all on what you need.
He is wrong a lot in class, and will go over a test or quiz with certian answers that match yours and still fail you.
He has no idea what he's talking about and loses his train of thought multiple times per class. Super passive aggressive and rude to students, not helpful at all when people ask questions. I know people who have gone to him for something and left with nothing. Painfully boring class, not engaging, goes on about topics that we could cover in 2 mins.
Very unorganized and unprepared professor. He is not helpful during office hours and is just a hard professor to work with. Lectures are very boring/repetitive and he goes on tangents with filler words that makes it hard to even follow along.
no homework for this class and graded on strictly POP quizzes and exams. Exams are cumulative even though he says they arent. No technology allowed in the class and he takes off a full letter grade if you do use it or if you talk too much in class. Exams are very hard and Pop quizzes hurt grade badly.
I would NOT recommend this class. His lectures are confusing and unclear. I basically had to teach myself the content. There are absolutely no phones in his class. If he see you he will call out and says he will drop you a whole letter grade if your on your phone. He is also very disorganized, he lost my test I took for him in office hours.
Encouraging not coming to class by making pop quizzes only count if you attend lectures. Lectures have questionable points of discussion. Doesn't allow for any use of technology, laptops, phones, smart watches, etc during lecture or exams.
Never had a teacher talk to his students over email the way he does. Very passive aggressive, ignorant, caught on phone or Watch 10% off final grade, call students out for "talking too much" when none of us notice they even are. Yelled at girl for reading, pop quizzes day after learning new material for hw so good luck if you don't understand it.
I believe he is interested in what he is teaching, but he just can't teach it to students. He focuses more on what people do in the class rather than just teaching the subject. Absolutely no technology allowed in the class, and he will look at every student to make sure. Attendance is "not required", but there are pop-quizzes so you have to go.
Even though attendance is "not mandatory" it technically is since he does pop quizzes, and pop quizzes WILL take down your grade. I had to focus more on this class than my major's classes because of how unpredictable this professor is. He's rude, and will call you out by name. He is excited to teach but cannot get the words out, bores out the class
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. just dont.
Took this class thinking it was going to be about philosophy, NOPE. Couldn't tell you how many times this guy talked about dinosaurs. I have no clue how he received a PHD in philosophy. He couldn't even teach a fish how to swim if he tried. This class also is graded on like 10 things, more than half are pop quizzes. Avoid at all costs, trust me.
Knorpp's class was pretty interesting, easy, and clear as well. He basically told you the exam questions, practiced in lectures, and gave solo practice for hw. I think he isn't rated higher because it gets boring and his pop quizzes are annoying because it's like spiratic attendance taking. Overall, not bad at all though, I didn't study at all.
He is the man. Lectures are a little funky but he REALLY knows what he's talking about and cares a lot about his students and the content. Won't baby you and hold your hand along the way, but if you show effort and that you care, he will be in your corner. Maybe my favorite professor I've had in college and it was a GenEd. Overall an amazing guy.
