Wonderful instructor. Will be willing to take any course he teaches. A must for good students.
Excellent
Great Experience. Knows his stuff.
Excellent Instructor. Would take his class whatever it might be.
Excellent Instructor
This guy is a "master teacher" in every way. He clearly loves teaching and is student oriented to a fault. I feel he had a genuine interest in my learning and my life experiences. I would like him, if around, to teach my children. I know I will teach them what he taught me.
Professor Lashbrook was the best instructor I have ever encountered. He cares about students, models professional behavior, is always interesting. He clearly loves to teach.
Thanks for teaching such an engaging class-it was a wonderful end to my undergraduate career.
I've already recommended his fall classes to a couple of people too I enjoy his classes so much.
It has been a pleasure being in this class. I will take away much from this course. He has done a lot for his students--and in a compassionate way.
I normally attend another school. I took the course because it was not offered in the summer at my university. It was an enjoyable experience. I would like to see Dr. Lashbrook on on my faculty teaching this particular course.
This instructor is "awesome." Blue Ribbon. I enjoyed his class and believe I learned a great deal that I intend to build on for may years to come.
By far the best instructor I have had at Metro. Makes class interesting by his sense of humor. It is a shame that this was my last class before graduation.
I took this class in order to have this instructor. So far, all is well!
Lashrook is a great instructor. He doesn't believe in using text books and does not believe in homework. He is very knowledgeable and would rather have students learn than regurgitate information from an author. I wish all college educators would follow his role.
This is the most thought provoking class I have taken at MetroState. It is all a tribute to the instructor. He thinks and I think as a result. I wouldn't miss this experience for the world
This guy is quite the character. I have never learned so much in such a short period of time. He is memorable if nothing else. I am glad to have the chance to be his student before he retires
When my partner missed class, Dr. Lashbrook step in an did the interview that was assigned. It was the most valuable experience I have had as a student and human being. He was able to stir me to a recognition of family values I have never considered. I had a chance to transmit this experience to one of my significant others.
I learned more about myself in his class than I have in any other I have taken here at Metro. Hopefully, others will realize the same.
Dr. Lashbrook was the highlight of my week. I am very fortunate to have met him as he is planning to soon retire. Students of Metro State will be losing a real experience in learning and life.
I presented many logistic problems for him to solve. He bent over backwards to accomondate my many problems. He was considerate and understanding and I appreciate his many concerns.
This class is amazing. I love the people. I love the way he teaches something I can actually use in my life. This class is too great to miss.
This is a highly creative instructor. It shows in his assignment and test. Thought provoking is my analysis of his assets as a teacher.
According to this professor he has had 50 years experience at college level teaching. I believe it. Even so, he doesn't miss a beat. I am glad to be his student in this last year before retirement. I don't believe that will happen. He enjoys it too much
I can't believe this class. It is the highlight of my day. He knows my family problems flat out and is able to provide insights I never thought about. What an experience to have as a student, as an adult learner, as a human being. Don't let him retire...
This class was about interpersonal communication for the Helping Professions. The instructor and the course modeled the topic with realistic activities and a genuine concern for people problems.
He is a fabulous teacher. I am soon to be graduated but plan to take some of his courses as electives. They are not overly strenuous and you get much more out of them than one would think. I have been putting my aunt through class with me and she thinks he is something else and she has never met him.
Always regret missing one of his classes as I have learned a lot from his comments and feedback to other students regarding their assignments. Every class is a learning experience.
I was having software problem. Could not use the MetroState System because I did not meet its requirement. Dr. Lashbrook took it upon himself to help. He provided the needed link and now I am set for the future. Never had an instructor provide so much assistance.
It is unfortunate that I had to drop this course do to a personal problem. While I was there I learned alot. I plan to take this course and this instructor again. I am sure that he will be able to add on to what I know so that retaking the course won't be redundant. I really look forward to repeating the course even though it will cost me money.
I never thougth that I would consider an examination a "learning experience." In this class (Interpersona Communication) the exams were truely thought provoking. The instructor has an amazing ability to capture the essense of the coures in the types of test he constructs. I wish I could say the same about my other instructors.
Dr. Lashbrook went out of his way to make sure that I had the computer softward I need to do assignments in this class. I think he even spent his own money to secure MS Office 2007 for class members who had older version of the software. He showed me when to use it; he showed me how to use it.
nice man but doesn't seem invested in teaching this class
This instructor left a lot of the content of the class to be collected by the individual student. He them centered his comments around what the student came up with. I felt involved in the actual design of the course--an innovative approach to family communication.
Excellent class. The instructor has years of experience and makes it relevant. Liked the discussion concerning a family's life cycle. Assignment very meaningful. Keep him at it Metro.
Check on my progress in all my classes to make sure I was doing well. Helped me get a much needed scholarship. Made a major contribution to learning in my life that has helped to create and foster a more educated, better version of me. Much Respect.
My last semester at Metro State has been the happiest of all semesters, not only because it was my last but also because I really enjoyed his class and I learned a lot from the knowledge and experience he shared with his students.
I have never had to think so hard about as class where I only thought I had to talk. His stress on family as "not being just about you" was an eye-opener. Will not forget the issue of involvement as a commitment to being a family member. Simple but profound message to receive.
It's hard to figure out what he wants for papers. I think he looks more for interpretation rather than factual data.
The course was in "interpersonal communication" and geared toward the Health Professions. I found the material interesting and relevant to my job. Dr. Lashbrook made me a better service provider.
I wanted to wait until the class was over before I wrote an assessment. He made the class enjoyable while still being able to teach the students something important. He definitely has mastered the skill of teaching. He make an impression on me that will last a lifetime. I am strongly recommending his classes to my friends and associates.
He is a kind and thoughtful man. I much appreciated his teaching style. I am grateful for the encouragement he gave to me and the sincere concern he expressed for success in life and work that he gave to all his students.
Because of his help I was able to transfer to the UM and into my true love Math. He made me think about the switch since I really enjoyed his courses. I am sure, however, that the shift was in my best interest and he encouraged me to go with my heart.
I have had him as an instructor for three different classes within my major Professional Communication. He has always delivered good information and created activities which are both fun and relevant. His attitude toward learning is clearly student oriented.
I just graduated (Fall 2009) and I regret that I didn't have the chance to take more of the classes he taught. What I did take was "life changing" with respect to my communication to and within my family. Money and time well spent.
Very creative in terms of class assignments. Enjoyed the Power Ball assignment as it made the notion of "deferred dreams" a reality when combined with the opening scenes from Raisin in the Sun. Like his quotes from American Lit--Thomas Wolfe. Metro could stand more like him.
I dreaded taking this course in Public Speaking. Dr. Lashbrook bent over backwards to make me feel comfortable standing up in front of an audience. I think it was his approach to the course as a social science and not an art that contributed to lessening my fears as a speaker. Great Teacher!
This was a course in Public Speaking which I dreaded to take. I had one in High School and I learned nothing. This professor not only reduced my fear of speaking but provided valuable information as to how I should evaluate speeches I've heard.
It is hard to make a comment about this course--the course was the instructor. He informed, he inspired. I think he cares about students. What more cause I asked!
Course in Public Speaking. A required course for my major. I hate standing up and giving speeches. Instructor was laid-back and made me feel comfortable speaking. Did everything he could to make me a learner. Good Job!
I consider myself a "technical person" who does a lot of work with computers (mostly old). Metro mandated the use of MS Office 2007 which was not on my home computer nor the one at my work. Dr. Lashbrook actually supplied me with the needed software but paid for it out of his own pocket. I will always be grateful for his kindness.
He went out of his way to provide me with a "letter of recommendation" to support my application for a student award. The letter was much appreciated and indicated his real concern for his students. He clearly wants his students to be successful.
I have a chance to interview his students as part of an overall faculty assessment. I can report that he is universally held in "high" esteem by those that he should effect the most.
I actually had my first class with him while he was teaching at the MN School of Business. I have not had a chance to take one of his Metro State classes and I hear he is planning to retire. Anyway, at MSB he was by far the best instructor on the staff. The only one who seemed fully committed to his students.
I did not want to take this course in Public Speaking. It is required by my major. At least I got to take the course from someone who has the skills and experience to make the assignments meaningful and relevant. I suspect I would now take the course even if it was not required.
This is a man with many talents. He writes, talks, composes, illustrates, inspires, motivates, and teaches. All his qualities combine when he is in front of a class. I know this is his last term and what a loss. He is a man of words who speaks to your soul.
Class taught me a lot. Instructor made course interesting and relevant to my career goals. Extremely helpful in development of Power Point Slides and projections when used as visual aids for informative speeches. He save me by editing my slides in such a way as to allow them to be shown to my audience.
Here I am again down to the last five weeks of the semester and still sitting and listening to Lashbrook/s version of his world. Five class--all consistent;all interesting; all worth the money. He has been my education. Can't say enough good about his approach to educating the mind.
I know that he plans to retire at the end of this term, but I wanted to say how grateful I am for all that he does for his students--its admirable. Such dedication would be missed at any school but doubly so at Metro State.
Frankly, I was scared to death about taking Public Speaking. Had a bad experience in high school and heard that the Metro teachers were out of it. He made the class relevant and interesting. I still have stage fright, but am willing to speak up if necessary. Thanks
I was having difficulty with submitting material via the internet. Dr. Lashbrook got on the system and figured out my problem. Together we worked it out. I was really worried about this issue, but he not only re-assured me, but worked out a permanent solution that allows me to correct problems with his class but others as well.
I am required to take this course for by my major. Dreaded it. At least he made it interesting.
The course centered on Family Communication from birth till death. I got a lot out of his perspective. He will be missed.
He write "great" tests. I can actually say I learned from answering his questions and getting his feedback. The class, itself was always interesting due to the simulations and role plays. A very innovative teacher.
HE WAS ABLE TO GET A BUNCH OF WEAK STUDENTS GET UP IN CLASS AND SOUND REASONABLY INTELLIGENT. SPEECH TOPICS WERE CURRENT AND RELEVANT. HIS APPROACH TO PUBLIC SPEAKING WAS REFRESHING. GOT A LOT OUT OF A CLASS WHEREE I EXPECTED LITTLE TO NOTHING. PROVIDED COMFORTABLE ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH TO LEARN
It was the best communication course I have taken at Metro State--by far. The instructor went out of his way to insure that I got everything out of the class that I could. Very accomondating even when I missed classes. Followed up with materials and advice. He was the best.
This was a public speaking class that I did not want to take. Considered it a waste of time and money. However this professor recoved my faith in higher education by positioning the importance of communication as a science rather than an art form. Glad I took the course.
I particularly liked the way he shared his personal experiences with family life. Clearly he uses what he has learned to convey information and advice to others. Many in the class were too young to have lived through the issues that confront families at the end of the cycle, but he made his points with clear examples. Good use of DVDs.
I can't believe it! He actually made Public Speaking interesting. I learned to get over a lot of my fears about speaking out in class.
Tended to generalize from his own personal experience. This was interesting but I am not sure how representative of others. He did a good job of designing assignments to match the Family Life Cycle Model that was featured in the class. Glad I took the course. Glad I had this instructor before his retirement.
I have no desiree to be a public speaker. I was required to take this course by my major. Many of my peers find the content of this course to be irrelevant. Still, I must admit, I got something from this instructor-self confidence.
He was able to capture the kind of family life I would like to have. The problems discussed in the class were real-real to my file anyway. I liked the way this class brought home the facts of life. Will miss him!
I was able to directly relate the content of this course to my real life work group. He provided an insightful look at leadership and group performance. As a manager I am going to apply his theory to creating high performance teams.
I could not have completed my capstone project without his help. He let me use his classes to gather the data needed for my project on intellectual development and music appreciation. He also made useful and relevant comments as to how to analyze and report my data. He wasn't even the teacher of the course. She provided no help what so ever.
He does a good job encouraging students to give speeches inside class and out. I would never have thought that I might get an A in Public Speaking but he gave me one, what's more, he made me earn it. Bring on the future.
I have been in college over many decades and at many schools. I found this instructor to be one of the best I have encountered--perhaps the best. I am glad to end at his ending. He is a teacher for the ages.
It was a pleasure to be among the final students that he taught. At first I wondered if his age (75) might make him irrelevant. Was I wrong! He addressed my concerns about my family while weaving his way through his own. The course was a good blend of content and experience. Well conceived and well executed.
I want to thank him for taking the time to write a letter of recommendation for me. It was an enjoyable class this semester. His stories, wisdom, and knowledge made for a truly wonderful class. It is clear to me that he is a brilliant person and teacher.
On his last day of class he said that it was the end of 50 years of teaching and that he hoped that he had done more good than harm. I can tell from the students I met that he had a tremendous effect on their lives. His was a great career!!!
I took this class in order to get an easy A. Well, it wasn't easy and I didn't get an A. However, I must admit I did get something from the class. A perspective on family and how I need to relate to mine.
I was unable to complete this course do to illness. Still, I got a lot out of it in terms of relating my communication to my audience. I like his sceientific approach to the course content. I will probably repeat the course though he did give me a fair grade.
My only regret is that I did not discover him earlier in my academic career. I would like to have taken more of this classes. Still, to take him his last semester at Metro was a real joy.
I want to thank him for everything. It was a great experience to learn from him in both of the classes I took--interpersonal and family communication.
I want to thank him for a great semester. He is one of the most memorable teachers I have had over my many years in school. He provided an inspiration to follow my dreams and not let them become deferred if I can help it. This is what great teaching is suppose to be. I hate to see him retire when he does so much good for those who listen and follow
I am sure that I will find in the future that this class was one of the most useful I took in college. The instructor's ability to relate to real like work experiences was invaluable to me in the my current environment and in keeping with my plans for career changes. Plus, his class was a lesson in fairness.
Because of my English I avoided classes like this fearing that I would not do well. He taught me to slow down and express myself in patterns based on the styles in my audience rather than the languages they spoke and understood. I will be always grateful for this lesson in communication--above all, be yourself!
I believe this was the last class that Professor Lashbrook planned to teach at Metro State. In fact, it may have been the last class period. Whatever, he closed on a "high." I will remember him long after the content of the course has let my memory. He was outstanding!
I understand that he is retiring from classroom teaching at the end of this term. This means that I am evaluating his last class--Public Speaking. This is where he started some 50 years ago at the University of Kansas. What a ride it must have been for him and his students. Good job!
I have been away from the class for six weeks and, I must admit, that I have used his advice everyday on my job. My co-workers are amazed at my new found ability to speak. I attribute all this to Professor Lashbrook's class. Great instructor!
Thank you for two excellent years of service to MetroState, I have received rave reviews of your teaching all over--in hallways and even a person who works for the Office of the Chancellor. You did a wonderful job weaving theory with application. Students felt they were getting a valuable opportunity to learn from you.
Its been three years since I had a class from Professor Lashbrook. Went back to Metro to take him again only to find out that he had retired. My lost. Try to bring him back,
Excellent Course, well designed and delivered. Shows the real attributes of "on line" instruction without a lot of busy work. Glad I took the course and instructor--will do again.
Learned to love the content of this course, mostly because of the teacher and his willingness to interact with me via D2L. He made it look like he was available for feedback 24 hours a day. All exchanges were relevant. I really like the use of the computer simulation (Excel). Please keep this guy teaching.
great course
I took this course to simply have something to do. I had been away from a formal learning environment for a long time. Appreciated the on-line transfer of learning. Good course content and excellent instruction.
The course involved learning the ins and outs of developing an instructional design using D2L. I had learned some of the principles via Moodle, but found this instructor's approach more relevant to my needs and those of my students. It's good to learn from someone who knows the technology.
Don't really care much for on-line nor D2L. Professor tried but could not overcome my concerns if real learning was taking place.
The course ended up being required in order for me to complete my degree in communication. Thank God it was offered on-line. I would not be done if it weren't. Instructor did a great job providing feedback--better than face-to-face. Made me a true believer in D2L.
I liked the approach to on-line learning represented by this course and the professor. It and he are keepers.
This course was recommended to me by another student. I was looking for something with substance but light on assignments. It turned out that this was one of the best course I took in graduate school. The professor has a real knack for on-line instruction. His feedback on assignments was great and made me want to do more than required.
