Difficult, but possible. Very helpful during and after class. Provides a workbook (that you buy at the bookstore) which helps if you attend class and follow along as he goes through the workbook.

Taking him now for summer, and he seems to cover the material thoroughly. As long as you review notes from class (from his lecture book) you should do fine. But this class takes work.

Dr. Lau is a goofball! I am taking him right now for the summer and he's quite good; very clear and explicit in what he wants you to know for his exams. His exams are "ace-able" if you go over his booklet/problems thoroughly. Definitely recomme

Lau is a very good professor! Although it's a hard class, he makes the subject very clear and understandable. His packet book helps out a whole lot! I definitely recommend him!

Highly recommended. Makes the class straight forward, easy to understand, and passable. ISDS is not an easy class in the first place, but if you keep up and follow his packet, there's no reason why you can't pass. Good teacher!

Explains material very well. This can be a very diffuclt course, but Lau clarifies the subject very well. In the begining of the course he comes off like he is rude and loud but at the end he can be cool and will make this class very passable. I got a B.

His class is very straight foreward. Listen to his lectures and study the notebook then you'll be fine. He uses examples to explain those concepts and really let you understand those boring stuff. Highly recommended.

Strict in the beginning, but overall he's a great teacher. Not a difficult class. Just study his workbook, take good notes and most likely you will pass his class. No powerpoint slides! Gives one quiz in the beginning, but doesn't count it. I recommend!

His bark is worse than his bite. He comes off strong, but is a great teacher and knows what he is doing. His workbook is what you need to study. Stats B is hard, be prepared to study and read-you will need to do this with any teacher.

Study the notes, and not the books (you do need it for HW). 1 quiz, 2 exams, and 1 final (if you screwed up everything else, get a 95% on ur final and you will get an A in his class. Extremely rude but the class is not hard at if you study his notes!

Easy if you study his notes. He is friendly in his own way even though many people don't get him. Just pay attention in class and study his note well and understand the notes before the exam day and u will definitely get at least a B.

This class is hard, in the summer is much more difficult, but Lau is a cool professor. I did extremely poor on my quiz & 1st 2 exams, but I did well enough on the final to get a B in the course, do well on the quiz & 1st exam, worship lecture packet =)

He is not easy.Tests are not like his workbook. I hate ISDS.What you get on the final is what you get in the class since it is cumalative. STUDY!!!if you didn't do well before the final,if you get a grade better on the final then what you were getting in class, he will pass you. I did! :)

Dr. Lau can be rude, however, he is one of the best teachers I had. He teaches you straight to the point, no b.s. his exams (except frothe final) are problems that he works on over and over in class... If you want an A or just to pass, take him!

Difficult class but teacher made it possible to understand information. Moved quickly, but thoroughly. I would take him again. Cleared up all questions I had about 361A. Made it so things stick in your head. Would recommend him, but it is not easy!

He is a nice little man who sometimes gets annoyed when people ask stupid questions. He is almost always about 5-10 minutes late for class. If you get him, you have to go to every class or you'll be lost! He is pretty good at teaching and making sure everybody understands, although he tends to talk really fast. No HW, just Quizes and tests.

The class is difficult and the professor is discouraging, especially the first few weeks. He will tell the class that most people will fail and every session he pretty much told us we're idiots. He's rude when there's no need to be. Your grade is pretty much dependent on the final. Take good notes (write fast and don't interupt!.. he'll snap @ u).

he is a good teacher, doesnt just teach from the book, but really makes you understand what all the numbers mean. gives 5-10 extra credit points on the tests and even though u do bad on the first exams u can still get an A if u get an A on the final. if u want to understand stats take this teacher.

i think he is a good teacher because he teaches the right way to learn statistics 361b. take his class if you really want to learn this stuff. if you just want to pass 361b and not care about learning it then take somebody else. you will need to follow his notes accurately.

Must pay attention in order to receive a good grade. He is probably the best professor I've had in a while. Don't get me wrong, he's a dick, but his teaching style is very curt and to the point.

Great teacher! Really wants you to learn how to do stats the right way! Goes over every topic in detail. And gives you practice problems that are very similar to the test. Make sure you do them! In order to do well in his class you have to show up everyday and take good notes!

IMPORTANT: u MUST go to class everyday and take good notes. He talks fast and a lot, so make sure u have a buddy u can compare notes with. The class is pretty hard, but if u show up everyday and take good notes, u should do fine. Also, even if u fail all of his tests, if u get an A on the final, u get an A for the class. So there's hope for u. =)

I think he is a great teacher. He knows his subject well, and gives you simplified notes that make the class easier. Hes a funny guy! He does not like stupid people! Dont ask stupid questions, or he will make you feel stupid. On the first day of class make a good impression by answering questions you know, this will win his respect & help you later

His lectures are clear, but his tests are difficult. If you plan to study really hard and spend alot of time on isds, than take him. He hates questions, and he can yell at you "stupid" if he want to. I don't recommend taking him. He never curve..

Take good notes, go to every class and you will do well. Dr. Lay's humor can be misunderstood as insulting, but he really cares about his students. He does not have an accent and is easily understood. Learn everything the way he teaches it. I studied no more than 15 hours during the whole semester and got an A.

Hard Subject, but Professor does a great job at teaching the necessary material you need to know for the exams. He is very clear as what to study and how he wants the answers. Simply follow directions, go to each class, take good notes, and you will pass.

He is not a NICE teacher. But he is a great teacher who makes the material easier to understand. If you follow his lectures and do the hws, and if you not bad in Math, you will get an A easily w/o reading the book. He really wants you to learn and his tests are very straight forward. His teaching methods forces you to attend his classes.

I think he is a good professor if you are committed to studying. I struggled the first half of the semester, bombing the first quiz with an F and the Midterm with a D. I turned around the second half with an A on the second quiz and the class project. For the final he said what you recieved in the final could be your final grade, and I got the A.

He is a really knowledged professors. His study guide is straight forward, just go by it. He teaches with his study guide but you must attend class. Practice is the key word in this class. Practice, practice, practice all of the examples that he has in his study guide.

Awesome teacher. I barely passed 361A, and got a B in his class first try. Just don't miss class, take all the notes, PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT HE IS SAYING!! Easy to track. Best teacher for the subject.

Dr. Lau is a very straight forward professor. He lectures very fast, and every point he covers is important. I ended up with a B in his class, though I was going for an A. His class really isn't that hard. For those who write that his class is hard... no offense... but you guys just aren't college material. LoL. Books are used every minute of class

this class is actually pretty easy. just go to class and listen. he is straight to the point, no BS, which is always a good thing. i got an A and barely studied at all. in fact, i was high most of the times i went to class, and even took a midterm high because it was on 4/20. this class was cake

AW all you wa-wah-pants can keep crying that hes hard. you aren't cut out for college! Lau is pretty cool, just go to class, make sure you take good notes and STUDY! and you will pass no prob. once you get it, you get it... its all repeated in every section. and he uses his own formulas (you can use on the test). read the rule, get an A.

If you can't pass basic statistics, you should consider taking up a job at Mickey D's for life. This guy is one of the best profs for ISDS 361B. He doesn't assign hw, except for your own benefit. He cuts out a lot of the useless material and only teaches you what you need to know. Pay attention in class and you will get an A, guaranteed.

He has an extremely dry sense of humor and can at times appear to be a bit unfriendly/rude. He holds several office hrs. His course is heavy and with repeated practice of assigned homework and lecture notes, extremely simple to pass. You truly need to heavily familiarize yourself with the material. I earned above 100/105 on quizzes and exams.

His note was very helpful. His went very fast but very clear. In my opinion, students who cant's pass this class can't pass any ISDS361B class.

He give you everything you need to know for the exams. And is very good at explaining the material. Those student that gave him a bad rating probably didn't put any effort into the class. Dr. Lau knows statistics from A to Z. He does not take attendance because he knows that if you do not show up you will not pass the class. His class is hard, but he teaches you straight up statistics and doesnt beat around the bush with useless information. His semester project is tricky. Show up to class and do all of the homework.
