Dr. Lyons knows what he teaches because he is a good conflict manager!

One of the best if not the best teachers at the University of Akron. He is just like one of us, and makes a mean dip.
Professor Lyons is an exceptional professor and a pleasure to work with. He will help you day or night and will always have something intellectual to say. He is ONE of the best professors on the U of A campus. Keep up the great work.
Awesome professor. He truly enjoy's teaching, and is willing to anything to help his students do well!
Dr. Lyons truly cares about his students. He is an excellent professor with a genuine passion for teaching.
This instructor will really make you think and defend your position, but he never makes you feel inferior in any way. To him everyone is entitled to their point of view. Lots of fun!
I enjoyed Dr. Lyons' class, even though he did sometimes have a tendency to be a little too liberal for me. And he's a hottie too, but that's beside the point.
Perhaps the most caring professor I've ever had the pleasure of learning from. But beware he gave me bad grades for not coming to class often enough (even though my work was exceptional). I needed the slap in the face. Thanks Dr. Lyons.
One of the best Instructors i have ever had, the guy is frickn smart, makes you think about everything. if your gonna take this class and dont take dr.lyons your stupid.
he makes sitting through a lecture fun. always wants feedback from students to improve the class. relatively easy, but still learn alot. i would highly recommend taking him! i loved it!
Very intelligent and interesting to learn from. Also, very good-looking. :)
I believe he is a "Unique Teacher"!
A very interesting professor who challenges you to learn. You will get what you put into it. I have learned a great deal from Dr. Lyons.
Great Professor, Very interested in his topic which makes it interesting for the students.
I highly recommend Bill for any class your interested in taking. Very Fun and Very Helpful! He'll keep you interested in his class and always will to work from student feedback. I look forward to taking more classes from him.
Dr. Lyons is a tough teacher but fair. I certainly enjoyed his class and his outlook of the law. As for open-mindedness Dr. Lyons gets an A+!
Honestly one of the best professors I have ever encountered at Akron. He makes the topic interesting and understandable while showing how it plays out in current events. He is also very kind to his students and has always tried to help me with projects.
awesome teacher... really learned alot!
Dr. Lyons is the greatest teacher on the entire campus. He's definitely a very handsome gentleman. I am amazed how insightful he is! Bill is interested in furthering his students development as scholars and will push each individual to the limit! He is very passionate about his work. A+
You have not been educated properly until you have had a class taught by Dr. Lyons. No words can express my gratitude for the knowledge he has passed on to me.
Great class
Dr. Lyons' class was very interesting and thought provoking. One problem is that he has a tendancy to be controlling (when trying not to be) and interupting (while holding class discussion). : ) Just so you know
Bill is amazing! Actually, his class was very fun with a lot of dicsussion. I guess the only downside is that his classes require attendence and a little effort. He also has a dendency to talk a little too much and draw things out! : )
I learned more about politics and US Government in Professor Lyons class than I have learned over the course of my life -- I'm approaching 48. His teaching style and format forced me not only learn information, but to apply it. I would highly recommend this course to anyone wanting to understand how our government and political system work.
Thank you, Dr. Lyons. I did not appreciate where I came from as much as I do now since I took your class. Don't stop engaging the minds of future scholars. You gave me a challenge, I met it and achieved my goal of earning what I learned. Take this class if you want to see a different view of the SAME-OLD-THING!!!! THANK YOU! Forever changed!!!
Great teacher! Always willing to help and his class is very interesting. I never understood much about politics until I took this class. Great class and teacher for anyone who needs to take Government or just wants to learn more about it.
This class was awesome. Dr. Lyons did a great job of organizing the material that we studied, and then did a terrific job of leading us through the material.
Dr. Lyons had a thought provoking class everyday. He is well versed in the topic and his discussions were very interesting. I originally herd this was a hard and boring class, but by the end I loved this class.
Alot to learn in a short time with tons of work, but I left feeling like I learned alot.
Thanks you Dr. Lyons, I had a wonderful experience in this class and will highly recommend this class to anybody that asks. I learned about several different points of view that I normally would not have considered.
informative class
Enjoyed the class. Liked the way the tests were set up.

I took a class of his several semesters ago, I've been trying to fit another one in my schedule ever since. I am amazed how much I learned in his class considering how much time I spent gazing at him in awe and desire.
Dr. Lyons is a great prof! His classes are fairly easy, and he is REALLY HOTT!
Some things he teaches is unclear and he moves real fast but knows what he is talking about and is always willing to help

If you actually want to learn and get something out of your education, this is one of those professors that you need to take.
he is a good professor, he is just over-whelming at times
Excellent teacher. Very challenging but worth it. You WILL learn something in this class.
great teacher, knows what he's talking about, if you want to learn about conflict management take this class
This is my second time taking a class from Dr. Lyons. He is extremely knowledgeable and interested in the material he teaches and it has an contagious effect on most students. His coursework is demanding but so is life. Overall he is by far one of the best profs. I have ever had.
Professor Lyons is one of the best professors I have had. This is my first class with him, but I have found his teaching styles very useful and helpful it kept me interested. This class and the material used in class has inspired me to see many things differently.
Seems to be a nice guy doesn't like to be contridicted
I've taken a few courses from Dr. Lyons. He's always demanding, but his I always leave his class with new knowledge. He's one of the best professors I've had.
This was an fun and easy class and it didn't hurt that he was gorgeous!!! It definily made the 7 hour Saturday class much more enjoyable!!
Lyons is a trip; tricky, demanding grader, yet deeply interested in students and their perspective. Course materials range from "Erin Brockovich" to Supreme Court decision. He's a stickler about attendance without a great excuse AND plenty of warning. Interesting, lively, and deliberative course.
I had him a couple years ago, and he's still the best teacher I ever had. Very highly recommended. He's the only teacher I ever had who actually presented BOTH sides of every argument equally.
Course content is relevant for anyone who get's his/her news from the paper and other sources. It reveals the institutional contraints that lends to the media's poor representation of the truth (ex: the McDonald's coffee case). Always choose a class by professor, not soley on content. Take Dr. Lyons every chance you get!
Best professor I have ever had! He actually knows what he is talking about and really cares for his students. He has an awesome teaching style. A very respectable man!
By all accounts here and otherwise, Lyons seems like a great prof and I was looking forward to the class. Too bad he was so exceptionally full of himself (yes, he knows very well that he's hot and intelligent) that I didn't think I could stomach it all semester. Maybe I'll try again next time.
I have had Dr Lyons for two classes now, and I do not like taking classes with him. I has a bit of an ego and gets obviously upset when people do not understand the articles. Consists of a lot of reading and paper writing. No test. Big stickler on attendance. Nice to look at though.
People only think he has a big ego because he is not afraid to school you if you say something stupid. He is a great Prof and insanely intelligent. He speaks with a lot of passion about the subjects he teaches, especially the Constitution and the Judiciary. If you are really interested in learning, and gaining some insight into the topic you want h
I am amazed at how much material I have learned in just one semester. The work is consistent, no surprises. Dr. Lyons is a professor everyone should experience. Your ability to capture what scholarly autors have to say and adapt into your own life's work will forever alter you as a scholar yourself. You will become a better writer and thinker.
Combine all of your professors in any semester, and you will still not learn as much from them as you do from Dr. Lyons. He is extremely intelligent and will go out of his way to spread that knowledge. His class requires honest dedication on behalf of the student. He is completely fair if you do what is required and you put forth the effort.
Dr. Lyons can seem intimidating at first, but once he sees the potential of the students the class becomes more intimate and thoughtful. He really values thoughtful papers and comments in class, even if they are slightly off topic or not necessarily correct. He is an amazing teacher because he relates to his students and offers amazing insight.
Dr. Lyons is a character, but he does challenge his students to thoroughly investigate all sides of a phenomenon. If findings suggest a problem that needs to be solved, Dr. Lyons compels students to offer solutions.
It was ridiculous the amount of information I learned in this class! He braught in things that as a student you would never really think of! At first I was really debating dropping this class considering the amount of reading and work that goes into it! But I am so relieved that I actually hung in there! He's tough but fair!
Dr. Lyons knows a lot which means that I learned a lot. He will have you reading up to eight supreme court cases a week and answering basic questions about them in class. The tests want you to write two opposing arguments for a hypothetical supreme court case and he grades very fairly. Don't miss an opportunity to take this professor.
This class requires that you apply yourself. Great class and professor.
At first I hated the class. It taught commonsense, and the amount of reading and writting was a lot of effort for so-so grades. Then it became clear why we were learning the material. Also my papers/grades improved because I learned how to construct better arguments. He is smart, fair, and a great teacher.
This professor is amazing...I've had him for three classes and in each class I learned so much Dr. Lyons is serious about his job and students who are serious about their education should take him, at first he seems a bit tough but that's b/c we do most work in the beginning so we have time to focus on other classes during finals etc... he is fair
one of the best teachers i've had
My Email Storage ran out of Room! Thats about the hardest thing (for me) in the Class. I liked the class good Prof.
Dr. Lyons totally rocks! If you think that politics and government are stupid or you've had trouble in the class before, get Dr. Lyons! He goes out of his way to make sure that you pass and pass above a C. He's one of the few professors that actually care about you and your grade.
Overall he was a great teacher. Was very helpful in helping students. This class felt like an upper level class and was taught that way. It was challenging at first then it got better.
Quite bothersome that he emailed us a link to this site to see his previous feedback the day before we did official evaluations. It's also good to know that a department chair doesn't follow university policy regarding final exams. Decent teacher, but this is ethically quite questionable. He thinks more highly of himself then anyone else does.
Dr. Lyons was by far the best professor I have had thus far. He made the subject interesting because he was excited about it and he really wants his students to do well. You learn a lot about politics and learn how to apply the material to everyday life. I strongly encourage anyone taking Gov't and Politics in the US to take his class.
Hey tried to make sure everything was understood before moving on. He is hot for an older guy and that helped me focus.
The best teacher I have had thus far while at the University of Akron. Very approachable. A LOT of interesting required reading. The grade you get will be the one you deserve.
Great guy! You need to work hard, but if you show up and participate you should do fine. Be prepare to get involved.
He works hard to make the material relevant to today, cares about helping us learn, and listens to our feedback. I learned a lot. The class moves at a fast pace, there is a lot of writing, and the reading material is pretty impossible to understand at times, but he does help explain it a lot. Grading is tough but fair.
GREAT TEACHER, HELPS WITH ANYTHING YOU NEED, GOES OVER MATERIAL GREAT, MAKES MATERIAL VERY UNDERSTANDABLE, AND REALLY HELPS YOU KNOW WHAT TO STUDY FOR THE TESTS
show up and put your hand in the air. this guy knows his stuff and does it right. he is the director now, so i dont know how much teaching he still does, but he is the man. he is one of the few that really cares about his job, his students, and the knowledge. remember, put your hand in the air
Dr. Lyons' class was one of the more difficult classes I took, because I was constantly reading scholarly articles and writing about them. He challenged our thoughts every week, but I learned so much from taking that class!
Lyons was a great teacher he always answered any questions i had in great detail
Dr. Lyons class 3700:334 Law Mediation and Violence, was always available when needed. The work Dr. Lyons had the class do was extreme but managable. Dr. Lyons put a lot of effort into this class, which made me want to put a lot of effort in this class.
I have never had a professor who cares as much as Dr. Lyons. He goes over and above to make sure students understand concepts. He makes each class interesting and worth going to.
Dr. Lyons is an excellent professor. He is always helpful and cares for EACH individual in his class. He constantly challenges the students to develop their own opinions, so that we do not take arguments at face value. Expect to work hard, but be prepared to be rewarded as the semester comes to an end. Excellent professor
Dr. Lyons is an excellent professor, he is a fast talker, so at times it can be difficult comprehending already tough material. Despite this, you will learn a lot in his classes. His classes are very engaging and a challenge.
Very good teacher. Very enthusiastic. Extremely hard class and way off topic for the class title.
Very hard, very involved. Lots of work! Get ready to lose your life!
I have had Dr. Lyons twice for two different courses. His classes are not the easiest and he expects his students to do their part. He is a great person and willing to meet almost anytime and explain complicated material. He is a unique professor because he actually cares. I graduate in the spring and he was one of the best I have had!
Difficult readings, but well worth the time and effort. He really cares about each student and wants us to learn. But be ready to work.
He's a very good person and he teaches you a great deal. But he weeds students out at the beginning of class by front loading assignments and being blunt as to a student's progress. The class becomes progressively easier, however, late in the semester and it becomes obvious how good he is at what he does.
Dr. Lyons was a wonderful professor. The first month of the class was the make or break month, but Dr. Lyons is SOO helpful. He will do anything to make sure that you understand the material. Also, Dr. Lyons is a really fun, laid back, just overall nice guy.
Dr. Lyons is a good teacher. He does give a lot of work, and expects a lot from his students. But in the end of the class it was worth it because I knew the material and felt like I had made great progress in the class.
A lot of reading and work, but the class is worth it. He is a very good prof. I recomend him to anyone!
I won't lie to you, Lyon's class was NOT easy. But he is a damn good professor. And I did learn a whole lot.
Professor Lyons is an amazing teacher with real passion for his work. He has a vested interest in the learning and comprehension of his students. He does expect you to come prepared to class with the readings and short essays assigned, and he does challenge students in their learning, but the payoff is great. I've learned so much from this professo
Mr. Lyons is a great professor that will challenge all of his students. He is easy to understand and to get along with. Who ever wants to learn by being pushed, Lyons is the professor to learn from. There are no easy grades, they must be earned, but his course is well worth it because students will learn beyond their expectations!
Good prof, class is kinda boring at 1st but def. got more interesting towards the end. I actually thought the final assignments were fun.
Really teaches you how to think instead of memorize. A lot of work but it is worth it. The research and analytical skills that you develop really help for any other class. The way he builds on subject through the whole semester allows you to firmly grasp concepts and provides new perspectives. The best professor I have had.
Unreasonably difficult course. Thought it would be interesting, he managed to make it painfully boring.
Dr. Lyons is the real deal. He really cares about his students. LMV is not an easy class, but its only hard if you make it so. As a senior it was by far the most rewarding class in the polisci department. He gives you so much work that you're forced to stay engaged. He's a funny guy and very approachable. I would def take a class from him again.
Great teacher. Tough grader, but gives you plenty of comments so you can improve. Don't be intimidated by the first month or so. The weekly papers get easier to write and the reading material gets easier too. Plus, if you have any questions Dr. Lyons answers quickly with lots of detail. One of my favorite classes and profs so far.
Dr. Lyons is one of the bright spots in the University of Akron's faculty. He cares about his students and about the material. He will challenge you to learn to be a scholar, ask questions and draw conclusions by combining ideas from multiple sources. If you want a cake walk, don't take him. But if you want to learn then look no further.
Lyons is a great professor who really cares about his students. He is intimidating at first, but really knows his stuff. His class was never boring! Do the reading and your golden, and make sure to do the extra credit too!
Dr. Lyons is amazing! He truly cares about his students, something that is incredibly rare here at UA. Not incredibly easy, but if you read the material and go to class it is well worth your time. Definitely challenges your thinking and writing skills, but in the end, you are a better writer and thinking analytically.
It is a challenging course, but Dr. Lyons makes the class fun and interesting. While challenging, it is definitely rewarding as well. He was the most helpful teacher I've had. If you put fourth the effort, then you will receive the grade you want.
GREAT teacher! At the beginning of the year, Mr. Lyons will be extremely tough; he wants to know who is going to work hard in his class. But after a few weeks, he eases up. You will read a lot in this class, but it is all interesting. He definitely will help you if you need any. Take this teacher; you won't regret it!
Dr. Lyons sets a high bar for learning the material in class. He is very helpful and equips his students with the skills to master the material. He goes the extra mile; encouraging us to live by our principles. Then, challenges us to incorporate the new truths we encounter in order to live a life enriched by good relationships and a good work ethic
Class challenges your thinking and analytical skills. Great class to take, whether required or not. Requires attendence and thought but you will carry on what you learn to additional classes.
Professor Lyons is very intelligent and knows what he is talking about however, he is fickle and changes his mind on what he wants out of assignments very often. He sends up to 3 emails a day concerning everything under the sun. He grades entirely too harshly for an undergraduate course. I will not be taking him again.
He weeds out people who do not want to work in the beginning by giving out horrible grades.Don't get discouraged, stick with it. You will learn a lot. Interesting and highly beneficial class. I highly recommend Lyons as a teacher. Work load is high, but well worth it. But...would I intentionally take a class from Lyons again? absolutely not.
Dr. Lyons is an extremely dedicated and motivated teacher. His courses are not an easy A or for that matter an easy class at all. But, if you want to be challenged and further yourself intellectually, than this is the professor for you. I will be taking another one of Dr. Lyons courses again.
Overwhelming at first, like any new class is; Though, information is extremely interesting, and you actually have to work do receive a good grade. It's crazy, I know! I came out of this class feeling like I learned something, would take another class from him again.
Dr. Lyons is an amazing professor. He is really helpful and easy going. Make sure to keep up with all assignments. He gives one bonus point opportunity per semester so make sure you don't miss it. Most of the reading material that he assigned was easy to understand as well.
If you just want to skate through a course and not really learn the material than Lyons is not the professor for you, he makes sure that people understand the course material and helps to expand you ablity to think outside the box. He is one of the best professors you will have in the P.S department. I recommend taking a class with Lyons.
If you want a class that you will walk out with an easy A...taking Lyons would be the worst mistake you can make!! He is one of the best Profs Ive had at this University and he will make you work for the grade that you deserve!!! There is a ton of reading...but this is college...what do you expect??? You will use the textbook so buy it!!!!
Great professor and very passionate about academic topics covered in class. By far the best professor I have had as POLSCI major. Gives timely feedback on work and gives great critique on work done. Lyons is truly dedicated to the eduaction of the students rather than the mundane routine of just getting through class. Overall is an amazing prof.
Difficult class but excellent teacher! I would highly recommend taking any of Lyons courses; he really makes you think and puts the course material to work. Lots of reading but well worth it! Plus he's a babe so that didn't hurt.
Cool guy; works with you, and is always willing to help outside of class. One of the few professors that is on campus that cares about his work and your education. Take him and you'll understand.
I just graduated with a CJ/PoliSci degree earlier this month. I can honestly say that Lyons is the best teacher I have had at this university. Tough courses, but worth it. I enjoyed the class and truly learned valuable information from him. Don't miss the opportunity.
I've taken 3 courses by Professor Lyons and although he may be strict on his deadlines I enjoyed every course with him. He is very enthusiastic about his job and he is also very concerned about the students. I liked that the best because he made sure that it was very understandable and encouraged office hours. Great professor.
I would not recommend taking this professor. He is Smart, and is by far the most "active" professor. But I often found myself having to focus on his course far more then others. He does not take into account college students have a life outside his classroom. Balancing his class with work, other classes, and other activities proved challenging.
Teacher is awful. His entire class is run by him coming in and asking everyone the exact same questions over the reading material over and over and over again. He's more concerned about getting everyone to speak then the actual quality of what is being said. He's not clear on what needs to be done in class and is the strictest grader I've had.
Simple as this: Lyons will challenge your way of thinking and if you're not willing to put a sometimes overwhelming amount of work (constant stream of deadlines with tough grading..etc) into the class, don't take him. If you want to grow as an analytical thinker and learn how to be a more efficient, effective writer- it's a good idea to take it.
Dr. Lyons is a great educator because he gets you to engage with course work, challenges your way of thinking and helps you develop critical thinking and writing skills necessary to succeed in and beyond Uni. He requires A LOT of work which can be frustrating, but stick with it as it's for your own benefit. Rec. for hardworking, academic students.
Dr. Lyons is an outstanding professor who cares deeply about his students. He wants nothing else but to see them analyze scholarly material and have a good understanding. He uses multiple texts, all of which are interesting and helpful for future political science classes and conflict management. YOU NEED TO TAKE LMV WITH DR. LYONS!
Dr. Lyons will make you work for your grade, but if you try hard, and keep up with the reading, he wont let you fail.
I had him for 2 different classes and I loved him! You go from being clueless on the first day to leaving on the last day with a whole new perspective! He explains everything in detail and if your confused he always has time/office hour to talk. Always available. If you hate his classes and complain I am going to assume you don't put in any effort.
Professor Lyons makes you want to learn and participate in this class. You need to put forth the effort, but it pays off. He is dedicated to helping his students. One of my favorite classes so far.
Bill is a very encouraging proff who cares about his students educational success. I highly recommend students who are interested in politics to consider taking his class in the future. You will not leave this class without learning something new!
He works with each student and prys to get each student involved and really engage with the material you learn. I would recommend anyone take his class and the best would be at the begginning of your collegiate career to help you learn the ropes of how to properly engage your thoughts and the thoghts of others. He comes highly recommended from me
too much work, was hard to balance work life and other classes. Will not be taking one of his classes again.
Bill's class was not easy. He pushes his students to learn concepts that can be applied after the course has ended. He offers in depth feedback that is very helpful. One of the most challenging classes I've taken but I also learned more from this class than most others.
LMV is my favorite course to date. Dr. Lyons is an amazing professor; he is really helpful and gives a lot of feedback on assignments. This class requires a lot of hard work, but it all pays off in the end. I recommend all Poli Sci majors take this class. TIP: Prioritize so that you have enough time to devote to this class. It is well worth it.
You have to be willing to put the work in to succeed in this course. If your looking for an easy A, this is not the course. But if you are looking to apply your education to real life, highly recommended. A lot of book use, but in depth and clarified when being reviewed by the professor. Enjoyed it.
On an average week you have 2 online discussion threads both posts have to be 24 hours apart and are opened on Thursdays and close on Saturdays. Also you have three books to read, in class tests(2 points), confusing response papers (5 points) almost weekly. Dude really loves to email you. For this semester so far I have 101 emails from him.
Dr. Lyons is an amazing instructor. Do not take the class if you are not willing to be serious. Let him know you are willing to put time in and improve, and he will help you find out how to get a good grade in his class. His class really expanded my thinking, and I have not taken a class quite like his in college. Take his class or miss out.
Bill's classes are tough but well worth it. By the end of the semester your probably going to be a better student because he challenges you to be. If you're looking for an easy class skip him. If you're looking to learn something meaningful that will help you after graduation take him.
Clearly passionate about his subjects and his students.
A mix of reading materials, from articles to books... Class is structured as a large group discussion, he won't lecture the entire time- great dynamic... His office hours are always very interesting and helpful... With a major focus in international relations, not criminology, I wasn't sure what to expect, but the class was extremely interesting!
Professor Lyons goes above and beyond. He is by far the best professor I have had at Akron U. His feedback on assignments was truly amazing and has helped me excel as a student. The course topics truly expand your thinking. Amazing professor!
Absolutely fantastic professor. Really knows his information and explains it extremely thoroughly. Teaches you new ways to critical think. Everything was on the syllabus and grading was fair. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
I had Dr. Lyons for Law, Mediation and Violence. He is a good man and has a tremendous amount of knowledge that he uses the proper way. Not one to give a boring lecture every class but focuses the class as a running group discussion. It is critical that you get the books because you will use them all semester long. GO TO THE OFFICE HOURS!
This class was not what I thought it was by the name-Dr Lyons explained why it was named Law Mediation and Violence and it helped to make it clearer to me. I had never blogged and he walked me through it, same with Youtube. Still can not narrow my writing but it helped. If you want to challenge your mind and ready to learn take this class.
Take Bill's class. Bill takes his course seriously because this important matter. It is very time consuming in first 23 of the course but then lightens up so that the concepts can be applied to your own life.
Dr. Lyons is the best teacher I have had at the University. He challenges his students. He sets the bar high but it is very attainable. He believes in his students. He CARES about his students and is always willing to help and answer questions. I learned life long skills. Real world application at its finest.
I consider myself a hard-working student, am a political science major, and loved this course. Professor Lyons was clear, provided wonderful feedback which helped me improve my papers not only in his course, but for others as well. The course in particular required review of peer-reviewed studies. I am quit fond of scholarly reading.
Dr. Lyons is an excellent professor! If your objective is to get an easy "A," seek life elsewhere! If you want a challenge, become a better thinker and writer, then, this is your professor!
Bill Lyons is an amazing professor. He is helpful and insightful. He is also caring and understanding.
My favorite teacher at UA. So in depth work material. Encourages you to think outside of the box. Wonderful material that is up to date and relevant in society. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Professor Lyons is challenging but he tells us exactly what he is looking for in his instructions and in his feedback. It's important to pay attention. He seems to genuinely care about student progress and is readily available to answer questions - checking his email twice a day. Make no question about it, you will learn from his class.
The class is manageable if you stay on top of assignments and pay attention to deadlines. There are lots of readings throughout the course and it is necessary to comprehend if you want a good grade. The professor is quite critical which helps with personal growth.
Dr Lyons is great. He gives awesome feedback. The work is constant but not overly challenging. Some selections were little dry but overall he chose really interesting reading assignments. I definitely recommend his class
Dr. Lyons' class is not for the unmotivated, but if you put in the time it can be an incredible experience to discuss, learn, & interact with a man of exceptional intelligence.
Dr. Lyons really cares about you succeeding in the class. With that said if you work hard and ask for help when you need it you should do well in the class.
Absolutely terrible feedback. He gives the same feedback copy and pasted.
Replies to emails fast, give you a chance to fix things before he gives you a final grade, nice teacher!
Seriously one of the best classes I have taken. If you are a hard worker, or a slacker Dr. Lyons. He is really fair. I work really hard, and I really enjoyed this class it made me think about the world in a new way I can't wait to take him again!
LMV was my favorite class this semester, and I feel like I actually learned something rather than just going through the motions. Lyons makes the difficulty of the class known, but he's there to help if you have any issues with the materials. He was the most involved professor I've ever had.
I would definitely recommend any of Dr. Lyons's classes to students in any major!
Good feedback, strict grading criteria but if you follow the syllabus you will be fine
Dr. Lyons' LMV online class is the benchmark of online learning. Manage your time wisely, stay on schedule, and you won't have any problems. Dr. Lyons gives top notch personal feedback and is passionate about his material. If you are allergic to work/study, run the other way. If you want a rewarding experience, this class is for you.
Dr. Lyons is an excellent professor who challenges you to really think. This class is by no means easy, but you will leave it with many new skills and maybe even a new perspective on the world we live in.
Lyons Grades extremely tough and wants a perfect answer every time, you will read a lot during this course and also you will have assignments mostly through the week, you have assignments to do to have springboard open other material for you that is required! must have time management, and you must participate every week also on a discussion board
Dr. Lyons is an extremely intelligent professor who encourages you to really think and engage with the material. If you do the work, ask questions, your grade will reflect your efforts. If all professors provoked next level thinking as he does, we would not be complaining about the price of tuition because it would be well worth it.
One of the best professors at the University of Akron. I loved Social Entrepreneurship. If you're not in college to learn, don't waste his or your time. You have to engage in the material and put forth an effort, but the class is awesome.
Dr. Lyons is amazing! If you are passionate about your education & your collegial experience take a Lyons' class. If your wanting an "easy A" then don't waste your's, his, or the other students' time. Even outside of academics, Dr. Lyons is the type of person you'd want in your life!
Bill was an exceptional teacher. He really loves the subject he is teaching and makes that very clear. He knows what he is talking about and is very fair. He is a tough grader but only to make you work for it. He really appreciates participation and being able to interact with the class. He is a respected professor and I would 100% take his class.
I absolutely love Dr. Lyons. He genuinely cares about his students and is more than willing to help out. I have been at Akron U for three years now, and I haven't learned as much as i have learned from him and this class. Its not an easy A, you have to put in an effort to get it. I know i will look for more classes to take with him.
Be ready to type, type, type. But I can honestly say, I have never learned so much in one semester. This is real world stuff. I'm going to be able to use what I've learned in this class for the rest of my life. Don't take this class if you want an easy A. Take this class if you want to walk out 10000x more knowledgeable. Great Professor.
Great Professor. Class discussion was always interesting. He gives great feedback and you can tell he loves his job. I would definitely recommend taking this professor.
This class was not easy. You don't want to miss a single class. He is a very hard grader. With all that said, I learned more in this class than I have in any other class. You will be challenged in critical thinking. If you're looking for an easy A this is not the class to take. If you're looking to learn and improve your writing, I highly reccomend
Law, Mediation and Violence was definitely one of my more challenging classes. There are many assignments throughout the course and participation is critical. However, Dr. Lyons is a pleasure to be around and makes the course interesting and relatable. He is knowledgeable and cares about the material, giving very constructive feedback on all papers
He caters to the majority students' opinions and progress when it comes to his classes. If you are the miniority, you do not matter. He can be cold hearted with his comments by comparing you to your classmates and saying you do not belong in college. Overall he is time efficent, tough and wants an enaging class. So be prepare before class.
Professor Lyons is an absolute nightmare. He has zero sympathy for any students and he cares solely about making your life as hard as he can. At first, he appears not to be so bad but by the end of the semester I guarantee you will regret ever enrolling in one of his classes. If there's an excuse he doesn't want to hear it, and he shows no respect.
Amazing professor.
Amazing teacher and you leave this class feeling as though you know so much more about politics. Its a helpful class and helps you in the real world. highly recommend.
All texts were free and provided. Book was online. Lectures were just shortened versions of chapters. Encourages participation. Shows that he cares and wants to help.
GOV3700 was one of those courses that you would recommend to everyone regardless of their major. Especially if professor Lyons was the instructor. He is very approachable and makes the class feel a little less like a class. My low grade was of my own doing but I have no doubt that plenty of students have excelled in this course.
I was challenged in his class, but if you do the work, you will receive an A. He pushed your thoughts but made class seem like a discussion instead of a lecture. When you leave, you see politics in a brighter light and can conversate about it in a way that you have not been able to before. Great professor, just show up and do the work!
This is one of the hardest and most rewarding classes I took in my academic career. The readings are a bit challenging but are accompanied by helpful guides. The writing portion of the course focuses on being concise and summarizing accurately and effectively. The class is full of real life skills that I continue to use. I very much recommend!
Professor Lyons taught an awesome course. I learned a lot about politics and real world scenarios that will aid me in life well into the future. He was always available to help outside of class during his officer hours and gives great feedback. The class is lecture heavy as the topics are discussions so attending class is vital. Great professor!
Professor Lyons is incredible. Taking online classes can be rough, but he makes it bearable. His video lectures were great and he set up his Brightspace page so that it was super easy to understand what you had to get done and when. He responds to emails in a timely manner and even made an effort to get to know us.
Professor Lyons is incredibly knowledgeable, but his class is extremely difficult. He gives "optional" readings so you'd think the information wouldn't be on the tests, but it often is. Get ready to have to remember random sentences from the textbook that you'd easily skip over. Honestly, this entire class was just a constant panic for me.
Professor Lyons was a great teacher this semester. My class was online, but he was very accessible. I think the longest time he took to respond via email was 1 day. He emails a lot of updates and extra useful information, so you won't forget to submit an assignment. He also hosts weekly Webex discussions.
Professor Lyons was phenomenal, I could always shoot him an email and receive one back within an hour or so sometimes minutes. He really cares for his students, especially those who put forth the effort to learn in his class. His criteria is clear and he often sends reminders. Overall very helpful and I learned a lot.
The professor makes you work hard and efficiently but it is a very organized class and the professor is very helpful
Lyons was a fantastic professor. He had strict guidelines, but they were manageable and thoughtful. He actually cares of his students, education, and the material he was teaching. I really hope you have the honor of taking him!
Dr. Lyons is a very dedicated teacher who cares deeply about helping students succeed. In order to succeed in this course, students must work hard. Reading and watching the material is necessary. Government and politics was a great course and provided me with lots of useful information for the future.
A real stand up guy, 10/10 would recommend this professor!
Dr. Lyons is probably my favorite Professor I have had. He is very attentive and will always be there to answer any type of questions that you may have. Class was enjoyable despite being all online. If youre looking for a great Professor dont look any further
This is my favourite professor I've had at Akron. He is caring, considerate and polite in the way he teaches. He challenges and pushes his students and provides them with all the content they need to pass this course. He is very attentive and a quick responder to emails. His lectures are engaging and interesting and I look forward to his classes.
Really great that is helpful outside of class with clear communication lines and a well organized bright space. You will have to work hard it is not an easy A class where you can just get by while doing the minimal. You will have to work hard, and if you do that you will love the class and I professor Lyons!
This class was unbelievably difficult, but it made me learn and remember the material. Dr. Lyons is really an amazing professor and is willing to meet anytime out of class, and help you in whatever way you need to make sure you pass. This class was difficult but I think it was well worth it.
Hes great
Took Bill for Intro to CJ and he was wonderful! He is understanding, engaging, eager to teach and wanted his students to succeed and give people chances to improve in his class. He cared about teaching and his students. Well respected professor. I would highly recommend people to take his intro to CJ class and other course he has, you won't regret!
I had Bill for intro to Criminal Justice 001 course and it was a great experience all around. He is very engaging in class and outside of class. Its easy to reach him if you have any questions or concerns. He really cares about students being able to understand the material. He is very easy to talk to whenever you need help. Very understanding.
I had Bill for Intro to Criminal Justice and I reccomend him 100%. His Mid-Term and Final are the same format, and he allows you to use your resources. He does have a paper due at the end of the semester, but he gives it to you the first day. Pay attention to the guest speakers and you'll pass. He does lecture and he likes when people are engaged.
It was nice having Lyons as a professor, truly enjoyed the class. Very helpful and encouraging.
Dr. Lyons is a fantastic professor with a true passion for his class and students. Law Mediation and Violence is so far the first class to genuinely challenge me after 3 years so be warned, but it is also the first to make me learn. There is a lot of reading and mini essays but they are worth the skills. Class Participation will help you succeed.
Law, Mediation & Violence with Dr. Lyons- This class was geared towards challenging your individual thought process which has allowed me to become a successful student outside of the classroom. GO TO CLASS- You will learn by engaging with the material and your peers. Absolutely wonderful class, attentive, engaging, interesting, 100% worth taking!
I really like Professor Lyons! He is very accessible outside of class and you can tell he cares about his students. His course requires a lot of reading and you actually have to want to take the time to improve in order to do well in this class. He is a tough grader, but he is right there with you every step of the way to help you if you need it!
Do not take his kindness and compassion for his students for granted, He is definitely someone I would reach out to again.
Just an incredible professor. Bill is amazing and so willing to help students succeed no matter what they need. He is very flexible and understanding in emergency circumstances too. He found a way to make a subject I am already interested in even more interesting and engaging. Definitely would recommend.
