He is a very good teacher....and uses alot of humor when teaching, which makes it interesting. Hes not one of those history nerds, he seems like a pretty cool guy. He has easy tests, and is only interested in us passing, not stressing us out. GREAT teacher, I hate history but his class isnt bad!
I like him. His tests are easy, as long as you take decent notes in class and at least skim the chapters in the book. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you miss 4 or less days, he may help your final grade some. He's a pretty cool guy, some corny humor every now and then, but it's alright. Posts lecture powerpoints online if you miss class.
Not recommended! His tests cover a RIDICULOUS amount of material. You can slide by with a B if you cram the ENTIRE day before a test and read the book and chapter outlines on the book's website. For the final you must perchase online chapters, not fun! Pain to download and read. Will help out your grade for good attendance. Assigned seating.
THIS WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITES...I LOVE HISTORY AND HE MADE HISTORY MORE INTERESTING THAN EVER...I LEARNED A LOT AS LONG AS U TAKE GOOD NOTES AND COME TO CLASS U SHOULD DO FINE....A LOT OF READING....BUT HE IS SO HOTTTTT....REMINDS ME OF BRAD PITT....
class is a bore! he reads straight from his notes in a mono-tone voice. he talks fast and has a powerpoint with pictures only. so you ave to listen carefully or else you will miss stuff. if you write slow take a laptop! i went to his office hours like 5 times and he was a big help but i still struggled. if you can find someone better dont take him!
This class is what you make it. Not the most intresting, but a good prof, expect to take a TON of notes, but no HW. With the attendance bonus, and SI, it's defintly possible to get an A, but it requires alot of studying. If you put the time in you can defintly make the grade, and he's really easy to approach. Use the book, but focus on bold words.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! that's really all that needs to be said. Ridiculous amount of notes, he talks to fast and if you ask him to slow down he will get offended and not be so nice. He takes history and the class WAY too seriously for it just being a core class. Makes an occasional funny joke, but his tests cover EVERYTHING...not worth it at all.
The tests are about half lecture note based, half textbook reading based, and hold the occasional, comical no-brainers. Presents with a stutter and a smirk; ex: ~~"6000 bc Man discovers mead. 4000 bc Man engineers the wheel. And sure enough... 3999 bc we have our first DUI."~ I'm a fan.
Always bring a laptop or buy notes because hes gonna talk too fast for you to write.
he studers
Easy teacher and pretty funny, has made history my favorite class just because he is one of the few teachers who can actually hold my attention for more than 5 mins. You have to read some in the book and be able to take down alot of notes and pay attention to him. He does power point lectures but he makes them interesting. Overall - take him.
Tests are extremely hard!!! LOTSSS of studying!
I love Dr.Malczycki!!! He is a great teacher. Really knows his stuff. Lots of note taking. He talks fast and covers a lot so you have to know how to take good notes. Read the book, too. Loved his class. Would love to take him again.
Not a great speaker, lots of notes, READ THE CHAPTERS, if you study important info and understand general trends you should do fine. Read answers carefully on tests- there are some tricky questions if you don't apply what you know. A bit temperamental, don't be rude(he walked out because people got up early). He's alright if you study what u need to
This guy is serious about his job, and the class does require work. At first I was intimidated by him and dreaded the class, but as time has gone by I think he's really hilarious. He's really smart, and has a stutter. You need to read the chapters and go to class, but overall your grade will reflect the effort you put into it. It's very do-able.
Dr. Malczycki is a great professor. He HATES when cell phones go off, so make sure and keep them off. Test Tips-Be sure and go to class and take GOOD notes on the lecture, read all the readings, and print off the outlines from the books website (not blackboard) they help alot!
He's a really nice guy, sort of nerdy, but he knows his stuff. It's good to take notes on a laptop because he talks fast and burns through the powerpoints (which have very little info in them to begin with). He's got a good sense of humor too, very dry. I didn't buy a textbook for his class and I've got a borderline B (which I'm okay with).
Stutters way too talks extremely fast. This man is moody and makes smart comments thinking you won't get them. His class is pretty easy hough and the only grades are the tests. ButI don't think I'd take him again if I could go back.
Do not take him unless you LOVE history! BE SURE TO READ THE CHAPTERS FOR THE TESTS!His lectures are extremely boring! and he goes wayyyy to fast to get anything down on paper! You have to study a lot if you want to do good in the class!
Good guy. Easy class. Bought the book but never really used it and made a "C". Goes to show I should've just read the book...
TAKE HIM! He is slightly strange but funny and makes history fun. He makes jokes during lectures, listens to silly music before class and sometimes his tests questions have silly answers. Go to class, take notes and read the book and you'll get at least a B. This was by far my favorite history class.
he's really not that bad! he is pretty funny and always tries to make history interesting. I easily made an A in his class and I just skimmed the book and made notecards for all the boldprint words. going to class is optional and you always have to write a TON of notes when you go.
Very straightforward class. 5 Tests, each 20% of your grade, not comprehensive. Be prepared for a lot of note-taking and reading of the textbook. Dr. Malczycki comes across as very egotistical but under the surface he is a nice man and very easy to get along with. He throws silly jokes into his lectures and plays weird music before class.
He is such a great teacher. He knows his stuff and he's also really funny. The class isn't the easiest but he wants you to learn so he leaves time for questions. I would definitely take him again.
Really funny.Puts up funny slides and makes history interesting. And I HATE history.Takes attendance but says it isnt mandatory.Takes a lot of notes when in class.Says you need to read every chapter but you dont.Study the outlines and notes from class.Only read what he tells you to.came out with a C only bc i was in the hospital for half semster.
He is a great teacher but you MUST read the book in order to pass the tests. The textbook website provides outlines and quizzes which are also helpful.
Dr. Malczycki is a strange man but the class is not too bad. Prepare for TONS of note-taking- sometimes over 5 full pages per class And you have to read the text and take good notes if you want to get an A. Attendance not required but the TAs check it, and he will curve your grade if you have good attendance. I'd recommend this professor.
He stutters, so he reads his notes off a piece of paper to help him, which makes him talk fast. He plays music at the beginning tests, which is cool. There are five tests, which also helps. Prepare for LOTS of notes though, and lots of reading from the book.
Pretty much everything comes out of the textbook. So, if you're great with history you don't even need to go to class. Which was nice for me. Not totally boring lecture, tries to mix it up with random bits of humor and seems like a pretty cool guy. I'd recommended him.
pretty funny guy. you have to have a brain to understand his jokes. class is legit, he teaches what is on the testand review nicely. but you still need to take note and read the book or you will not do well. very nice guy and one of my fav proffesors
Dr. Malczycki is a great guy. Class is not extremey difficult, but you must READ. You have to truly learn the material to do well. And I say again, READ the book. That is where you will learn the most. He's got a stutter, but it's no big deal. I would recommend his class.
this dude is HILARIOUS!!! he would play black eyed peas, and sometimes country music! there was def never a dull moment! YOU NEED THE BOOK! just read the book, and know the terms and you should do great!! his notes aren't really helpful but going to class makes it much easier on exam days!!! :] i suggest taking him if you like history! :]
The class was interesting, but the tests were hard. If you study hard enough, you can probably come out with an A. He makes it fun to learn most of the time and his reviews are always helpful. GO TO CLASS!
GO TO CLASS! He will boost your grade depending on your attendance. I deserved a D but got a B because I had zero absences. He is funny and interesting. Great class!
Dr. Malczycki is a good teacher, yet his tests are EXTREMELY hard. Read the book if you want to do well on the tests along with studying the notes.
Going to class is very helpful! His test are super confusing,me and others would read the chapters and make the same grade as someone who didn't read the chapters. He tries to make class interesting, sometimes it works and others it doesn't at all.
Dr. Malczycki is a good professor, but you must spend a lot of time reading the textbook if you want an A in the class. He's funny and plays music as well.
Reminds you of Ron Swanson when he was 30. So...he's pretty much the man.
He's a great teacher, he has a slight stuttering problem. If you come to class and read your book before the lecture, you are sure to pass his tests. Make sure you take notes in class. Just as a hint he takes a long pause after he has just given you valuable information, so pay attention. Good luck.
Great prof. I'm in the class right now and it is not difficult at all, and I'm learning a lot. Made a 100 on the first test. He does stutter when lecturing. He also embraces the football culture at Auburn, and that's refreshing. Overall, he's a great guy who wants to help you and get to know you.
great teacher!!! HE wants to help you learn and will do anything you need. He makes his tests different then the year before so dont think you can just study those. He also likes to pull weird questions from the book. just do the required reading snd take good notes. zyoull get a good grade>
He is a great teacher! He wants his students to do well. You do have to do a lot of reading because he tests on stuff from the book that arent in his lectures. As long as you take good notes and do the reading, its not a difficult class.
great prof! He loves history and makes it very interesting! Not the easiest class but definitely the most entertaining. He is very funny and makes jokes about college life and football to keep class interesting. The reading is required and it's a lot so if you're lazy don't take him, but if you read the tests are easy basic information, no concepts
SUCH a great professor and very interesting class! He always keeps things lively and makes jokes 24/7! Probably one of my favorite class, by far! He's always joking about college and other fun stuff. The test are NOT bad at all! You really don't have to go as long as you read the book and study notes before the test.
An enjoyable class. Malczycki is very knowledgeable and well learned. It's nice having such a good professor for a mandatory class. Funny, as well. He's always mocking our "no child left behind". I wasn't very interested in making a good grade, but if you use the chapter outlines in the back of the book to study then you will win.
Not my favorite. He always acted very bored with us and the lecture. I usually like history, but his class was so dull. He does NOT want his students to do well. He yelled at my class for scoring well on the first test. He makes his tests difficult and requires a lot of reading. However, sometimes he is funny, but his stutter is distracting.
Interesting lectures but bring a laptop and be ready to take lots of notes. Read the book and notes before the tests and you'll easily get a B. A lot of test questions come from the study cards at the back of the book. Plays music before class and realizes that core classes are not very entertaining, so lots of humor to break up the lectures.
I really enjoyed this class! He is a great professor and made the class interesting. He's funny and plays music before class starts. To make an A in this class you NEED to go to class and read the book.
GREAT PROFESSOR! I would recommend him to everyone. Makes the lectures interesting and is a really funny guy. You need to read the book and go to class to make an A.
He is a very good teacher, and can be pretty funny. His tests aren't bad at all, but I did read all the chapters. You could probably still do pretty good without reading them, but it would be hard to get an A.
Don't take him. I don't know why all the reviews in front of this are so positive. He doesn't make the class interesting and doesn't really want you to do well. It's hard to make an A. Sure he'll bump your grade if you never have any absences, but he's just really not a good teacher. Wish I had someone else.
DO NOT TAKE. really hard no matter how hard you study and how good your notes are. He stutters and doesn't want you to do well. sort of funny. really really boring class.
If you want an A, you HAVE to go to class and you HAVE to read the book. He's not very helpful if you go to office hours and is sometimes rude when you ask questions during class. But the tests are straightforward -- 50 multiple choice questions. Not really a great professor, but he's not the worst.
just not a very good teacher. sometimes funny, but usually he acts like his own lecture is boring him to tears. read the textbook or you're doomed. very tricky test questions. you have to work really really really hard to get an A. the only good thing is he will bump your grade if you have no absences!
So-so class. History was not my best subject, but I memorized my notes forward and backwards and made a high A in the class. YOU HAVE TO READ to get an A though - coming to class did nothing for me. He can be funny and pretty sarcastic. Not an easy A, but it is possible.
I found this course very easy. The test questions were straight from the lecture notes and the text book. He has a good sense of humor that keeps the class interesting. As long you read the chapters assigned and listen in class an A should be difficult.
Unless you love history and want to spend a lot of time reading, dont take this class. His tests are 50 mc questions but cover 300+ pages of material plus notes. I went to office hours and never missed a class and still got a C.
He tries to keep the class interesting but it is a ton of reading to keep up with. about 25 pages per class. Tests are not easy and hard to study for. But he is very interested in what he teaches and classes are not boring. Attendance is not mandatory but you need to go to get the notes
lectures are very boring. sure, he gives you a bump in your grade if you dont miss any classes.. but the class is so boring you will more than likely skip it. youre also counted absent if any GTAs see you on your phone, or talking.. the tests are too bad if you study VERY HARD, but studying the night before does not cut it in this class.
I really enjoyed his class. If you pay attention in class, take notes, and read the book, you should get an A. It's that simple. He doesn't try to trick you on the tests, and there aren't any dates that you have to memorize. He also gives your final grade a few more points if you have good attendance.
class was easy as long as your read the book and take notes. dont really have to go to class you can get notes from a friend and just read over them before test. iv gotten 92, 92, 92 on the 1st 3 test and the final is just like a normal test not comprehensive
I absolutely love Dr. Malczycki as a person but I thought the class was very difficult. He is a funny guy and understands students but the tests are really hard. They are only 50 questions that cover three chapters with A LOT of material. Unless you love history, this class requires a lot of work and studying.
Go to his office hours and listen in class. An 'A' is not that hard.
Very easy class. He is an entertaining teacher and his test are easy. His tests are set up the same and he only asks questions on religion, rulers, and geography. Book is necessary for an A because a minimum of 10% of questions are from book. The book also comes with useful note cards. One of the easiest classes I have had at Auburn.
Dr. M is not very interested in teaching such a low level course, and you can tell. But, he still tries to make the class interesting. Tests are sometimes pretty tricky with the way he words questions, but they are 50 questions multiple choice. Take good notes, and read the "Witness to the Past" sections and study hard and an A is possible.
Funny teacher. Go to class and read the chapters for the test once and you will have a good grade for sure.
Love his sense of humor.Great professor! Listen in class and read the book. If you put in a little work and listen to his advice, an A is definitely attainable. :)
Best history teacher at Auburn. For an entry level class, this is the guy to take. Doesn't require you to go to class. You could get away with just reading the book and having that down. He has a sense of humor and his test questions are straight forward.
I really enjoyed this class. Dr. M is a cool guy and is really helpful, especially during office hours. Read the book and you will make an A. My favorite class this semester.
This class is not hard, just read the book and take notes in lecture and you will do fine. He is a great teacher with a good sense of humor.
Great professor! Stutters a bit during lecture, but he tries to make it interesting by telling jokes and playing music at the beginning of class. You don't have to go to class, but it helps. He always gives a practice test and uses a couple questions from it on the real test. Make sure to read the book, and an A isn't too difficult.
Great teacher! He does have some questions that come straight from the book that weren't discussed in class (but not many). He explains how his test will be and that's exactly how they are. If you go to class and read the book you'll be fine. Vocabulary, the yellow boxes, and chapter review in back of the book he loves!! Class is not mandatory.
Best history teacher at Auburn! Class isn't mandatory, but I enjoyed it! He has a sense of humor and trys to make it fun! Nice guy! I advice reading the chapter lecture is on before class. Take him if you can, but you still have to earn your grade!
He is a good professor however, it is clear that he thinks World History 1 is below his caliber of teaching. Funny. Plays music before class. Attendance is not required but recommended. Tests are easy and multiple choice (no essays!). Be sure to read the book and study the "Chapter in Review" cards. Just barely missed making an A
I loved Malczycki! He was my favorite teacher all semester. He's pretty funny. If you love history you will probably do well in his class, especially if you took AP. You don't really have to go to class to do well, just read the book. Tests are super easy and answers are obvious if you read and study. Finished the class with a 98.
HORRIBLE. Read the book several times, went to every class, &went to SI sessions& did everything I was supposed to&still failed!! I know SEVERAL people that had him&they all failed his class. And they studied ALL the time for his class. I asked him a few questions&he was extremely rude to me. However, he was fairly funny in class.
Had Malczycki last semester. I'd recommend him to anyone! He is super funny and straightforward. The book AND notes are essential to doing well on his tests. I found the online study tools to be extremely helpful with keeping names straight as well. I can't stress enough, READ THE BOOK. It's worth the grade! Came out with a midrange A.
Dr. Malczycki is an awesome guy and great teacher. I am in his World History I class right now. He tells you everything you need to know to do well on his test. His also cracks jokes all the time which makes class enjoyable. You need to read the book though. Also there is just 4 tests, no final.
Malczycki is a really cool guy. He cracks jokes and plays music before class. However, you have to work hard for an A in his class. Reading the textbook is required if you want to get a good grade on the tests. Listen carefully in the lectures because the PowerPoints are very vague and he will explain them more into detail.
great teacher...you have to read and take notes ..class isnt mandatory but it is necessary..made an a by taking notes and reading everything required
I never went to class except for test days and got an A. All you have to do is study the book really hard ESPECIALLY the little chapter summary things at the end because they really help. It's not an easy class, I studied really hard the couple days leading up to each exam, but Aced it every time! Also he's a super nice guy!
Great History teacher. He knows we are not all history majors so just know the basics and you are good. Chapter In Review cards are golden. If you go to class and take notes and study chapter in review cards, you get an A.
Pretty cool teacher at first. Jokes in class and plays cool music. But DO NOT miss a test unless you are dying because you will get chewed out for coming to a make-up exam. I lost all respect for him after he was so rude to me because of this. Then I was accused of not coming to class which he has no way of knowing because he doesn't take roll.
great teacher knows his stuff and is funny if he taught world history 2 id try to get him but he doesnt.
This is a class where you cannot avoid reading the book. Just do it. And go to every class and take detailed notes because he is very specific in his explanations and the slides are vague. If you follow this, you should get an A. He is very funny but if you privately ask a question he may be a little snippy. Don't know why.
Funny guy and good professor. The slide shows he puts online are not specific but taking good notes and reading the chapter in review cards will ensure a good grade in the class. Aside from knowing his lecture material well, make sure you know what empire dominated where and who the leaders were. Reading the book and chapter in review cards helps.
Although it seems like he wants to give up on Auburn as an educational University, he is a good professor. He is funny as hell. I studied his old tests and got only As. Just go to class, do the quizzes, study for his tests, regurgitate the information, and you'll get an A.
While the book he uses (or at least used my semester) can be kind dry and dull in some parts, his lectures are both entertaining and informative.
Thought he was a really cool teacher in the beginning. Went to class and took good notes but wasnt doing well because his tests are really hard and specific, so i went to him for extra help/advice and he was SO RUDE to me. This is not supposed to be a hard class but it ended up being my lowest grade. he just doesnt know how to teach/lecture.
Don't take this class unless you want to spend a LOT of time studying. There are only 4 test grades. Studied harder for this class than anything I have ever taken and will HOPEFULLY get a C. I made the mistake of thinking his reviews on here were good when I signed up for his class. So much work for a freshman class. (I'm a junior)
I really, really liked this class. As a Pre-Vet major, it was one class I had to spend a minimal amount of time studying for and I made A's on every test. All you need to do is attend class and read the pages assigned. Dr.Malczycki doesn't try to trick students or make things unnecessarily difficult. All tests are multi. choice/final not cumulative
Good teacher. Funny and keeps class enjoyable. Attendance is not mandatory, but I found it helpful to attend. READ THE BOOK. Chapter review cards at the end of the book are crucial- lots of test material. Overall good teacher, explained material clearly, and was an effective teacher
Great teacher, easy to get an A if you go to class, read the book, and read Chapter in Review cards. Only complaint is that he doesn't teach 1020!!
Best teacher I've had at Auburn. He's funny and pretty straightforward about what't on the tests. Just take notes and read the chapter review cards and you'll be fine. People say he's rude but he's not, just sarcastic.
Chances are that you're taking HIST1010 because you have to, and he knows that. This class really isn't that hard. The only grades are the four exams, all worth 25%. If you read the assigned chapters, look over the notes, pay special attention to the Chapter in Review cards, you'll be fine. Easy A.
Overall, this class was harder than I thought. Your only grades are the four tests, which are difficult. You really have to read the book and pay attention in class. His tests are comprehensive and difficult. Personality wise, he's a cool teacher
Well I'm a History major, but I was generally disinterested in World History so the material was a bit dry. Great teacher though, has made me laugh out loud during lectures and he's a really sarcastic dude. I could have gotten an A if I went to every lecture, which I recommend you do, but you can manage a B just by doing the assigned reading.
I LOVED this class! He was very clear and interesting, and added humor to the class. I went to class everyday simply because I liked it so much. He is not super easy but if you try and come to class, you will make a very good grade.
Tests can be hard, you definitely have to study. He can be funny during class, and he always reviews before each test. Final is not cumulative.
Very clear on what you need to do to pass the class.
Excellent class. If you take good notes and read the assigned textbook reading, making an A on the tests is easy as reviewing notes, looking at the books review cards, and reviewing his powerpoints on Canvas. He is very interesting and always held my attention, and he always has great stories to tell.
He is a great teacher. He is interested in what he teaches and he relates to students well during lectures. I tried to ask him a question one time and his answer was awkward and confusing. There were only 4 tests, but if you read and study the notecards in the back of the book, you'll do fine.
He is very clear about the requirements for the class. Memorize the chapter review cards and listen in class, and an A is more than attainable. Tests are multiple choice, and the final is not comprehensive. If you don't like history and are looking for an easy A, take this class. I hate the subject and ended up enjoying the class.
Make sure to so the reading. Dr. Malcynski tries to make the information entertaining but it is pretty dull. Make sure to read the book and go to class. Even though attendance isn't mandatory the lecture notes are necessary for the tests.
Attendance is not mandatory to pass but if you show up he will take note and may give you some extra wiggle room on the final. He is very easygoing and wants students to talk in class. Creativity is rewarded in this class. He also is willing to give partial credit (don't know the answer on a quiz? draw him a picture instead. You may be rewarded)
Funny professor, really wants you to know the material. SI Sessions help a lot.
This class was easier than my high school AP history. Go to class, pay attention, take notes, and read the chapters (at least skim over them) and you'll make an A. Records lectures/powerpoints and posts them on canvas after every class. Very interesting professor (speaks at least 4 languages including arabic which was cool) and funny.
This guy is hilarious. He love the material and always has a corny joke or two. DO NOT CHEAT EVER!!! He knows, and he is waiting, he will hunt you down and fail you if you cheat! And if you text every day during class... he may give you an F/A (The only F that you can't Gap). On of the best teachers ever.
You just show up and take notes. Then you go home and read. There is a lot of reading to do, and if you don't do it then you probably won't make an A, but without reading it's an easy B. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you don't show up then it's unlikely that you'll pass.
Malczycki is a very good and understanding professor. He puts the lecture and voice recordings on canvas so that you are able to virtually go to his class whenever you want. It is necessary to skim over the chapters in the book before the test if you want to make a 100, but there is no bogus busywork or mandatory assigned reading.
Malczycki is a great professor. He's amusing and understanding, and you can tell he really does love his job. He has recordings and powerpoints if you miss (skip) a class and really easy test.
Didn't like his class. Because of his passion for history his lectures go beyond 1010 material, more difficult concepts. Notes can be confusing. Must read textbook. Test questions go beyond connections and material in class. Not an Easy A.
By far my least favorite professor I have ever had. I think Hitler's explanation of WW2 would be more accurate than this man's explanation of the Crusades. His stutter is worse than Tina's in the early seasons of Glee, and I think I would rather sit in the bama student section of the iron bowl, than go to his class one more time.
His lectures are alright sometimes, but usually boring Reading the textbook would've helped, but it was so boring I couldn't bring myself to it. I looked over my notes for the tests and got B's on most of the tests. MC test questions have funny answers that make it easy to pick out which one is right a lot of the time.
I really love Dr. M's personality. He's so funny! His class is hard if you don't like reading. If you want to make higher than a C, you have to read. The only grades in the class are 4 exams (including the final & none are cumulative). Attendance is not mandatory, and he posts his lectures online. Never thought I'd love someone who gave me a C.
You'll think this guy is cool at the beginning of the semester when he tells you "don't come if you're not feeling it" but don't listen. He doesn't tell you at the beginning but he gives out F/A's. He is excessively rude and not at all helpful. His lectures are confusing because he jumps around all the time. If you have the option, GET OUT NOW!!!!!
I love Dr. M. He's so funny but really makes you work for your grade. His only grades are the 4 exams (none of which are cumulative) which is great because less work, but if you do badly on one test, it's really hard to pull up. Attendance isn't mandatory, and he records lectures. The avg. grade this semester was 78. I made a 78.5 & he gave me a B.
VERY hard tests! He is not helpful during office hours! NO EXTRA CREDIT! Reading the book is mandatory!
He does not reward people who come to class but threatened people who were on their phone for class. Required clickers but did not give any participation points. Tests are hard and since the grade is only 4 tests, it's hard to get a good grade.
Worst professor I had at Auburn. I have never had a teacher that wants people fail like this guy does. He is no help with your Craft paper and will belittle everyone during presentations and throughout the semester. This guy must have a terrible life because he takes it out on you everyday in class. Will randomly yell at the class for no reason.
This class was way harder than a 1000 level class should be. He is extremely rude in office hours and treats students like they are dumb. Since he wants the class average to be a C, he makes the tests really hard. I would not recommend him at all.
Tests are hard. Rude guy.
Reading textbook is a necessity. Kinda rude, hard to listen to. His tests are very hard. Pay attention to what he says in lecture more than what is in the actual PowerPoints. Have to work to make a good grade.
Going to class is necessary even though his lectures are super boring and long. He is a pretty rude guy but you get used to it. Reading the book is essential, but I just skimmed to find the main points. Probably wouldn't take him again. Going to class is not mandatory but I would highly recommend going.
He refers to himself as having a Napoleon complex. He does not consider topics before like 1650 to be history, so beware of that. He basically told me my paper was doomed, but I kept going. In the final meeting before it was due, he told me it was one of the best in the class. He comes off as harsh in class, but is really a lot more personable.
BAD professor. Get out while you can. He is really rude and is no help even when you go to office hours. Would not take again even if you paid me.
I had a 95 in calculus and a C in History. Can be funny at times, but sometimes just rude/
Personally, by far my favorite teacher at Auburn. Is clearly super invested in what he teaches and has an incredible depth of information. He never came off as rude to me at all as some say. He definitely has a specific sense of humor, which may not be for all but I loved it. His tests are based directly off the lectures and if you study your set.
Threatened to Fail
took the online class. he challenges you really well, and makes you work hard for your grade. his tests are mix of detailed/general things. this is an intro class, i dont get why he complicates things. if you have an option, do NOT take him.
very unorganized and he sets quizzes due dates 1-3 days after he announces them and he reads emails and will ignore them unless you send another email begging him to reply. and his email responses are not helpful at all. he tests you over the small details. he recycles some of his old lectures/videos. and most of all hes the toughest grader
His lectures are very hard to understand. If you see him in office hours it comes across as he is unwilling to help. SI does not help for this class. The questions on the test are very detailed and hard. No extra credit or papers just test. Do not take this class.
Great teacher that knows and cares about the material. Didn't really stress attendance, but gave about 12 pop quizzes during the semester and a few were just based on if you were present. He is a tough grader, but is willing to work with you if you show up to office hours. A lot of reading due to the amount of time covered by the course.
Dr. Malczycki has noteworthy lectures and is skilled at discussing difficult topics. He may seem a bit intimidating at first, but he is much more relatable if you talk to him during office hours. Be prepared for lots of reading, but it should be expected when studying a lengthy time period of a very historic and important region.
Prepare for REALLY hard exams! Make sure you meet with him outside of class, he's super helpful and genuine.
Took this class first semester freshman year when I had non-existent study habits and still ended up with a high A. He posted his lectures and recordings online so you didn't even have to show up. Test questions were easy and came from lecture and the book so keep up with the reading too.
Prof. M is one of my favorites that I've had at AU, he's really funny and makes a subject that's rather hard and foreign easier to understand. His tests are blue book exams that are a bit harder if you've never taken one, but he is more than happy to go over them and help you.
He's probably one of my favorite profs in the history department. His tests are blue book and extremely hard, but doable if you actually take time to read the textbook and study. He is super kind and funny and is willing to help you if you go to office hours. I would def take him again if I can.
Malczycki is a really easy professor. His tests are straight forward and right off of the slides. He takes a few questions from the book too, but nothing detailed at all. However, I disliked him as a professor. He avoided Western history, skipped over teaching WWII, and yelled at a student in Arabic for asking a provocative question about Islam.
I didnt like his lectures very much because he made a point to choose only one specific topic and deep dive into it. In terms of the cold war, we talked about the middle east, and if you wanted just a plain overview of the war, you had to read the textbook. The test questions were worth a lot of points and had info from the textbook and lecture.
His lectures are a lot to handle, he picks one main subject and really holds onto it. However, Prof. M is one of the best professors I have ever had. He understands that not everyone is extremely interested in History, is always open to answer questions, and gives extremely detailed powerpoints. He also gives some extra credit which helps. 10/10
This is a somewhat easy class if you really learn the slides. Reading is somewhat necessary, especially if you want an A. This guy, however, has a horrible attitude. He is very rude and seems to believe he is better than his students. I would suggest taking another professor if possible based solely on his attitude.
Professor M was a solid choice for HIST 1010. He only has four grades, so make each test count. Tests were relatively easy if you read the lecture slides and the textbook. Attendance is not mandatory, but recommended because he'll mention some important things not on the notes or textbook. Pretty funny guy and seems to enjoy his class and students.
He really emphasizes the use of the textbook, so make sure you read. There are specific questions on the test that you will only be able to know from reading. He is super funny and engaging so sit in the front! If you have question about your grade or extra credit opportunities, just email him. He's extremely understanding.
He was a good teacher. As long as you go to class and listen you will pass easily. Posts his powerpoints online and thats where 75% of his questions come from. Would take again in a heartbeat.
In order to pass you definitely need to go to class. The lectures are a majority of the tests and I found them for the most part to be enjoyable. Just a couple of questions on tests from the book. That being said I didn't read the book at all and got most of those questions right, but some people found reading the book to be helpful.
He gives great lectures that are engaging and convey about half the material he tests on, the other half comes from the book. Given this, if your ok with some reading Malczycki will make the class enjoyable and not too difficult to pass.
Malczycki seems to really enjoy what he's talking about which is nice, but if you skip class or don't read the textbook, you will for sure fail. The only grades in the course are the 4 test grades which is awful if you bomb just one test. If you don't learn well from a textbook, you'd better try for another professor.
Super funny guy, loved him as a person. THE CLASS WAS HELL. only 4 test so good luck if you do bad on one. If you want to pass, you have to read the textbook and take good notes in lecture. First test had 100 pages of reading in textbook and like 15 pages of notes from lecture. literally do NOT take this class
This class was one of the hardest I have ever taken. Dr. Malczycki was a very tough grader, and the assignments were difficult. He also would forget to tell us about due dates and he never checked his email. If he ever did respond, he was always very rude.
For someone that is not a history enthusiast, maybe steer clear. As someone who has struggled with History, he didn't help much. Lots of reading and great lectures. Always went into the tests feeling good, thought the questions were great, but never did well. Makes the lectures interesting and very passionate about the topic, but there's better.
I love this class! Dr. Malczycki is a cool guy, but you do NOT want to get on his bad side. Lots of reading, im not even kidding we read the entire textbook front to back, and you have to do the reading to stand a chance at passing. Still a cool guy, and will take it easy on you if he likes you. Wouldnt recommend if you dont like history though.
This was one of the worst teachers that I have ever had. He was so rude and hard to work with. Avoid at all costs.
You are graded on four tests. These tests consist of information from about 150 pages from the textbook and 150 more slides. No study guides are given and absolutely no tips. He gives review days where he emphasizes the fact that nothing on the review is on the test, so in theory it is pointless. Lectures can be fun and getting a C or B isn't hard.
This is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. Also, Dr. Malczycki is extremely rude and disrespectful to his students. He never answers his emails, and when he does, he sends back a degrading message. Avoid this teacher at all costs.
His class is entertaining and super easy. He also cares about student's grades and is willing to help.
READ THE TEXTBOOK! if you do, its easy! just stay on top of your work. He is funny and smart and loves what he does.
Very tough professor, difficult for a 2000 level class. BUT. He's a fantastic professor who really cares about the subject. He's extremely knowledgable in the subject matter and makes pretty decent powerpoint to narrow everything down. While he's difficult, deep down he is a softy who is very kind and very funny. Probably my fave history professor.
Absolutely loved this teacher and he is a really cool guy. The entire grade is based on 3 tests and the final (if you choose to take it). you NEED to read and attend his lectures to get an A in the class. a lot of reading, but he is a really interesting professor and would definitely take him again
Professor Malczycki is an engaging and funny teacher. You can tell that he really cares about the subject and is very knowledgeable about the material. we pretty much read through the entire textbook. I didn't do too well because I'm not really a history person, but as long as you study the material and read before tests you'll be fine.
He says if you want an A in the class, you must read the textbook. I never read to textbook and still managed to pull out an A but I took great notes and studied them very well. There are weekly assignments. You do not have to come back after Thanksgiving if you are happy with your grade. ALWAYS go to class; there are daily points!
Interesting and funny. Extra credit opportunities in class- basically a free 100 test grade. He's a good teacher and he knows what he's talking about
Dr. Malczycki was a great professor. His lectures were interesting and he's funny. The tests were very challenging though as they covered a lot of material. Had to study a lot, but still was able to do well.
Interesting man. The subject matter is very difficult, and he treats it as such. He speaks Arabic, which helps with pronunciations of names and places. One of the most difficult 2000 level classes I've taken. If you take diligent notes, read and reread the readings, and participate in class discussions you should be more than fine.
Dr. M was a hilarious professor and I couldn't recommend him enough for HIST1010. Attendance is taken via daily top hot questions, with a fair amount of them being funny questions about our lives rather than lecture material. Exams are about 70% lecture material, so you can get a C without reading the textbook. Overall, highly recommend him.
Dr. Malczycki's lectures are fairly interesting and he is super funny. Your grade is based on 4 exams and daily points you earn from top hat questions. He doesn't take attendance but you do need to go to class to know the answers to the questions. He says you have to read the book to do well but I've been fine without reading it.
All the grades are for this class are the 4 tests and TopHat. His tests make 0 sense and it's a guessing game. I would take a different teacher if you have the choice.
He was a great professor and really wants to help his students, but you have to come to class. There is 4 exams and the tophat questions during class that is your only grades. I suggest to look over the textbook but if you don't you will be fine. He is a really funny professor and the top hat questions give you so many points and are super easy.
have to read the textbook in order to succeed, tests were very content heavy and grades were only the tests and the tophat questions. you can do tophat from outside of the class, but way easier if you do it in class. have to study a lot for the test but funny and interesting guy
Malczycki has been one of my favorite professors. He knows what he is talking about and is really engaging for a history teacher. Your grade is only 4 tests and participation points. I never really studied or opened the book but went to almost all lectures ended comfortably with a B. If you actually study easy A.
I've never posted a rating for a professor, but I would recommend Professor M. to anyone. History has always been by far my worst subject. The material and tests were hard, but if you go to class and at least skim the textbook, an A or B is very doable. He is also hilarious and was very helpful and understanding when I met with him.
Professor M. is a hilarious and engaging history teacher. While the exams can be challenging, the TopHat participation questions make attendance worthwhile. The textbook is useful, but not completely necessary if you stay on top of the lectures. unstuck study proved to be a helpful study tool alongside my other prep.
Get ready to come to class with some slang to share. He listens to feedback and is not that hard
Loved Dr. Malczycki! Every class he essentially just lectures the whole time, however, he tries to keep everyone engaged as best as possible. The class isn't too hard, but you will definitely need to study considering the only grades are the 4 exams. Attendance is mandatory in the sense that there are questions you have to answer during lectures.
Great man, but he talks insanely fast. I can only get about 5 words on my paper before we're on to the next slide. each test is approx. 225 slides to study. So much information to retain and only about 40% is covered on the test. No study guides so that makes studying much more difficult since there's so much info.
Dr malczycki, has long and boring lectures, which make it hard to learn the material. In addition to the class being boring to me, his presentation style in courage's listeners to check out. That with there only being 4 lectures makes this class a pain in the butt. If you have to take this class you'll be fine but try and find someone else.
You aren't screwed if you get him like a lot of other reviews say. He is very funny and adds humor here and there because he knows the lectures can be boring. Study all of the slides he posts for the tests, not just what you write/type down. You don't need to read the book to succeed like he says you do.
I do not recommend!! Class is graded 4/5 by test grades and 1/5 by tophat attendance points. I went to class and took detailed notes and still ended up with a low C, but dropped because it was not worth the gpa drop. His lectures are funny, and he really does know and care about the material he is teaching, but with that he goes too fast.
Unlike many teachers he is not understanding and looks for reasons to penalize students. If you have an option then i would take ANY other professor. He does not treat his students with the respect that they deserve as we are all adults he is extremely demeaning and all around a bad professor in all aspects.
My favorite Oompa Loompa
Super funny, you can make As just by studying the lecture slides and paying attention. The material can be a lot to study at one time, but the test is set up to make most of the questions answerable by process of elimination. You can skip 20% of classes without getting penalized-he takes attendance using Tophat so go for the extra points.
Funny guy but this class was pretty hard for no reason. Reads slides every class and material on the slides doesn't follow material on the test. He never explains the material the way he presents it on exams which makes them very confusing. Take any other professor
He's a good professor. Lectures can be boring, but it is a basic level history class. Don't cheat, he goes crazy about cheating, which is warranted. Grades based on 4 exams (study the slides and you'll be fine), and tophat points. Good, funny dude, don't be mad if you get him!
Not the worst experience but he made this a tad more difficult than it needed to be. Overall if you attend 70% of lectures and pay attention you're guaranteed a B.
He was a good professor and a very funny person. For attendance and participation credit he used Top Hat to make sure you were in class. There was no homework, and your grade is based on four test grades. His tests got progressively more challenging so study the lecture slides and look over the textbook to make sure you do well. Would recommend!
He was funny and a good guy, but the slides and lectures barely help on tests. Attendance is mandatory to get credit for tophat points which are the only thing that can help your grade because he only gives 4 tests. His tests are worded so weird and hard for no reason.
His class is pretty fun and if you actually show up to his lectures is not that challenging. There is a textbook, but only a couple questions on each test from the textbook, majority from the lectures and slides. He's a pretty funny dude and cares about his students if you show up and put work into his class.
Oh! What a love-hate feeling I had with this class! Dr.Malczycki is an incredible professor who cares about his students. I went to him during office hours b/c I am not a big history buff and I made a bad grade on an exam, but he offered me points for caring. Study the slides not book! He has an edgy sense of humor, do not take his jokes to heart.
His tests were definitely more difficult than that of other history 1010 professors, but his lectures were amazing and so fun to attend. He is a great guy and super caring, just make sure you listen to what he's saying during the lectures because that is what he's gonna test on. 100% would recommend him as a teacher for the experience
I LOVED THIS CLASS!!! Study lecture slides and important points in the book (usually he'll hint at what you need to know). Standard difficulty for a college class. Super funny and entertaining.
Best professor i've had so far. Actually teaches the history instead of handing us a friggin packet yo. Very entertaining lectures that make the difficult exams bearable.
FIRE PROFESSOR. I really enjoyed his modern middle eastern history class, it was so interesting and a really difficult topic to teach about. He's one of my favorite professors at Auburn; his lectures are good and structured, and then they always relate to the reading material which is nice.
easily one of the best history profs at Auburn. Sardonic and interested in unique perspectives. Class participation is big and he really rewards consistent input on material. Readings are interesting and textured. Really big on looking at history from all angles
Didn't love him as a teacher. No homework assignments and the grades were based on 4 tests which kind of sucked. He didn't give any study guides/review sheets so tests were based mostly on the lectures. He told us to read the textbook but the tests were often not based on it. Also yelled at students during my class.
He does not care about his students and when you try to talk to him he makes you feel like he has something better to do. Highly do not recommend. Major struggle in his class
He is a great guy and very funny, but his test are near impossible. He is very lecture heavy and does expect you to read the textbook. Test consist of mostly questions from the lecture and very few from the book. Be prepared to study for a week or two before the test if you expect to get a good grade.
Dr. Malczycki has easily been my favorite professor so far at Auburn. The only grades are attendance and the four exams. The tests are really not hard at all. The attendance grade is easy to get a 100 on, even if you miss class a lot, and is worth the same number of points as an exam. The final is not comprehensive. Take him for sure!
never wanted to meet with me as a student, was very apathetic and not understanding.
great personality, however, the grade is very dependent on tests/exams, and tests/exams only. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it is encouraged by TopHat points.
Dr. M is a very nice professor and his lectures are very thorough. He also gives extra points for being in class which add up to 20% of your grade at the end of the semester. With that being said though, his exams are pretty tricky for being a 1010 class.
Engaging and funny professor who keeps lectures interesting. The class itself isn't easy — exams are based more on what he says in class rather than the slides. Office hours can be helpful depending on your learning style. Definitely recommend taking him, but make sure to attend every class for those attendance points
lowkey dread this class. tests are impossible even if you study the powerpoints. expected to write down everything he says while he skips through slides rly quickly. kind of hard to understand and follow. does questions every class so you need to be there to get any points you can. take a diff teacher if possible. also very sarcastic and dry humor
Great guy, very funny and engaging. Exams are not hard if you pay attention. Just go to class! I think he may be on the spectrum but in a chill way.
As somebody who already hated history coming in, he honestly wasn't bad. He is a very interesting guy which made it entertaining. Tests are definitely hard and pretty much determine your grade, but nothing impossible. I also got by without reading the textbook. Attendance points count for a lot of your grade, but he goes pretty slow.
Good teacher, but on Friday's there are discussion groups, which he doesn't teach, but plays a big role in grade. Overall, he is a good teacher and pretty funny. There are very few opportunities for test, but there are little points here and there, but if you don't do good on one of the exams your grade will suffer.
Good class, but be ready to study and join group discussions. Lectures are Mon/Wed for participation points. Fridays are group discussions with an assignment and participation grade. Three exams total; first two easier than the final, which isn't cumulative.
He makes his lectures understandable and the top hat makes you have a better understanding how his test work, however, his lectures are not the only thing on his test and they are content heavy. Also a different teacher teaches on fridays and could be awful.
He is so nice! if you go and talk to him during office hours he makes it a point to get to know you. attendance is and is not mandatory. you do not HAVE to go to class but you get a ton of extra points if you do go which help you get the A. the tests cover a lot of the lecture and are actually really hard. you have yo study!!!
