Dr. Markham is a swell teacher. Only quip, he talks quietly, and an hour twenty is a LONG time to hear him talk about 1 poem . He is a riot though. And knows his stuff.

This man is amazing. Sadly I found the material quite maundane, and didn't attend many of the classes. However the classes that I did attend were great. He's so interesting and sure puts a new spin on some of the ol' favs.

Absolutely awesome! Bloody hilarious! So I've only been going to UVic for a semester and a half, but he's THE best teacher there is!! And the accent just makes the jokes even better!!!

Really fun class, Markham is good to listen too. He hates marking so there aren't many assignments.

This guy is hilarious! He is the most entertaining teacher I've ever had. Try and get him! Going to a class is like sitting in on the taping of a sitcom. He really knows his stuff too. He doesn't mark too hard and is very helpful and available after class if you have questions. Great hair too!

his enthusiasm for his subject is contagious and his teaching style clear, interactive and, above all, engaging. he made me excited about coming to a university-required class. good on ya mr. markham.

It's really too bad this class was at 8:30 and i rarely went because the guy truly was interesting and funny. If only it had been an afternoon class i would have been able to more fully enjoy it.

The absolute best teacher you can find! Hilarious, and just a genuinely cool guy. Only 3 short essays the whole semester, and gives extensions almost always! Its obvious he loves what he does. HIGHLY recommended!!

will markham is the best, its worth working your schedual around him! this was my favourite class this semester. He picks interesting material like victorian lit as opposed to some other profs who try to make you read the edible woman (ugh)

absolutely batshit crazy...definitely an interesting class although I didn't enjoy the books/plays themselves that much (not that I would've preferred the edible woman)

He is cool.....I would strongly recommend his ENG 115 to those who are not native speakers..........I used to think ENG 115 sucks...but now I really enjoy.....be careful ur assignment....he is still tough anyway...Highly recommended!

looking back he has probably been the best teacher ive had. all the classes were interesting and i actually looked forward to going. very helpful outside of class. he likes horses and harry potter. truely an assest to the english department.

Wow. 8:30 classes suck but it doesn't matter. This guy is amazing. You don't even have to go to class and you can get a B. Perfect prof.

Best professor I have had in my 3 years at Uvic! He is an awesome prof for having to get out of the way those English pre-requisites. Like the University English requirement. ONLY 3 essays one an in-class. He is amusing and marks fairly easy, a B with no effort at all.

He is so nice. He has a bad back though so class is sometimes cancelled...fine by me. He really gets into explaining things and you can tell he loves teaching. He talks about his horse a lot. V. adamant that you don't walk around campus alone at night on halloween.

An awesome teacher! I was just taking academic writing for an english credit but now I'm thinking of doing some poetry/short stories just to have him again. But I think he went a bit easy on us because we weren't English Majors. One reason I did well on essays in other classes. Thank You!

Ive never been so interesting in rants about random things in between his explinations. He someone manages to keep his students interested no matter what stale poem you may be reading. Plus his hair is wicked cool.

this prof is hilarious! if you are going to take an englihs class, you should take his. has a great sense of humor, goes off on tangents which are just hilarious. definately makes the class worthwhile. only 3 essays and final exam for the entire semester. is a great guy!

Great professor - teaching because he is passionate about the material - really funny, manages to make people laugh (out loud) at 8:30am. I would definitely recommend this prof to anyone looking to actually enjoy what they're learning about! He's hilarious and includes lots of stories to keep things interesting.

I love him and his class so much. I managed to get up early to go to his 8:30 am class almost everytime. He's hilarious and very nice! I love his accent, although sometimes hard to understand because i'm not a native speaker. He's a fair marker, at first i was so nervous and worried about my assignements marks.. He really cares about students.

He is such a great guy! I think that everyone should take this course with him! I'm in the 8:30am class and he makes it incredibly enjoyable and something to look forward to 1st thing in the morning. The class is easy and if you've taken English lit in highschool then you will breeze by! He's a fair marker and is there if you need help!

Poetry and Short Fiction is usually death in the form of text. With Will Markham, it was far and away my favorite class, he is VERY funny, and a fair-easy marker. Three essays then the final was the workload, pretty decent.

Markham is the best english teacher I ever had. He was extremely entertaining and helpful with assignments. At Thanksgiving he told us to "not drink and drive because when you do, you spill your drink". Hilarious.

Our whole catatonic class began to show signs of life, interest, and even, yes, laughter, after being treated to Bill Markham every morning... by far the best prof I've ever had. I wasn't planning on taking any more english courses, but I am now!

He's a great guy, just he hated the class material with a passion, and told us this at least once a week. He will do anything in his power to help you pass the course. Take a class with him and actually get to know him, just don't take English 135.

I would recommend any class taught by this guy he is unreal. Amazing teacher I hate poetry dreaded this course going into it. I didn't mind being in class with Markham teacheing. Highly recommended.

This is the best teacher I have encountered at Uvic thus far. He is fair, funny, and provides interesting perspectives on things which are more important than English:(ie: LIFE). The class was really slack, which made me actually enjoy the material, rather than say "oh god I actually have to read this tonight? English made fun for once.

THIS MAN IS AMAZING! british accent + hilarious sense of humour=AWESOME PROF!this man made me actually have a reason to get out of bed at 730 and go to my early class.he marks pretty fair too and doesn't fail anyone. DEFINATLY TAKE HIS CLASS! i know i will take another one simply for the humour. ALSO try to get to know him, he gives great advice.

I LOVE THIS MAN! This man single-handedly convinced me to make English my major. He is probably one of the smartest, most kind-hearted (not to mention completely insane) people I have ever met. I enjoyed every single moment of every single class with this man.

BEST PROF AT UVIC. Great sense of humor, well versed in course material which is presented quite impressively. This was the 2nd first year Eng course that I took and I he single handedly made me WANT to take more classes in the Eng dept. I loved going to class every day because he truly is a GREAT prof!

GREATEST AND MOST EXCITING ENGLISH PROF I EVER HAVE! Even though I finished the course 2 months ago, I still miss him. I went to all his lectures and none of them is boring. Hope he doesn't retire soon because it will be a loss for all UVic students.

Oh my god. I am in LOVE with this man. He is one of the most brilliant, hilarious and interesting professors at UVIC.You can definitely tell that he is passionate about his subject. He knows what he's talking about, and although he does go off on tangents (alot)about the most random things it's all in good fun :)I wish he taught all of my classes.

Oh Markham, you will love him. Funny, witty, interesting... Highly recommended! Some of his jokes made me laugh all day... Love the hair, vests and stache. His comments are helpful on papers, and grades fairly. With effort, a B is no problem. Loves the students, my fave prof at UVic so far. His exam will make you cry though......."JUST KIDDING"

One of the best English teachers I have ever had, and probably one of the best overall teachers too! If you are a first year student entering UVic, TAKE HIS CLASS, you won't regret it!

Let's just say that during our second class with him he told us a story about how he took acid when he was young and then walked into a carwash thinking that giant pandas were attacking the cars. You can't get any better than that!

AMAZING PROF!!! Attending his lectures was like watching a great movie every time (and that was in the early morning class). He is very helpful and was probably the most inspiring prof I've had in my past 2 years at UVic!

Absolutely hilarious. He was able to make the class entertaining despite reading material that many of us found extremely boring. Interesting paper topics, and realistic expectations about exam length. I would definitely recommend him.

Loved him! Sometimes popped random unrelated comments here and there, which were funny at times. Real nice guy who didn't emphasize grades and marks, but rather made sure we were having a good learning experience with him. Good class and good teacher for sure! Will miss it!

Best Prof I've ever had. So funny and helpful and smart. I loved going to his class and even looked for him as a prof for other classes.

Markham is a crazy old hippie and, unless you have no sense of humour, you'll find it hard not to absolutely love his calss within the first 5 minutes. However, be prepared to read the books and write an ORIGINAL paper. Regurgitating the lecture notes is npot gonna get you anywhere with this prof.

Awesome prof! An old wise hippie if I say so myself. He kept my 830am class entertaining and I enjoyed sitting and listening to his lectures. Recommend him X100. He is not generic, and his comments on everything are hilarious. Papers were shorts, not ALOT of work in this class... just the way I like it :) BEST prof!

Had him 3 years ago and he still sticks out in my mind as one of the most outstanding profs I've met. He is a eccentric for sure but it adds to his charm. If you have some interest in the subject matter and you come to class, you won't regret it; I can't see how you couldn't like and respect the guy. Amazing, funny prof, and he still remembers me!

My faveourite class this term! Kept things interesting and sometimes off topic but always made it worthwhile to attend. He is definately a little eccentric, but brought an awesome charisma to the class. Hope to have him again soon!

MARKHAM IS THE BEST AND ONLY! He gives you a chance to get an A+ and he makes a boring English 135 into an enjoyable lecture!This class is the best among any of the rest English classes at UVic.

Markham is an awesome guy, a lot of fun, tells some pretty funny and off-topic stories to keep you interested. definately makes friends with certain students. however, my final mark was based on 2 mini assignments, a research essay, and a final, so I didn't get the mark I hoped for. still a fun guy, even though the grading was pretty sketchy.

Hilarious, fun, decent marker, and completely worthwhile. I doubt anyone would regret having him as a teacher.
