this class was a blast, and he really knows his sh*t when it comes to the subject. Also he has some of the greatest stories to tell about he being a cop and his life. You'll never be bored with this guy. But be warned that he likes for his students to read alot and write twice as much.

He's a good teacher but his class isn't exactly a breeze. You have to write a short essay almost every class period. I'd say it's easier than other research paper classes, but know you'll have to work, and if you don't attend class you might as well drop. Just about all your grades come from class work. He's a good teacher though.

his class is a TOTAL blow off class! hes HILARIOUS and all he does all class is tell funny stories and we'll watch movies. you have to write a paper every now & then, just like any english class, but he actually reads and comments your papers and grades easy. Mr. Matter is the real deal, he?s a genuinely friendly. I've learned so much from his lectures about English and life lessons. Make sure you know your grammar; he's very technical in his writing, but he's also lenient. I took him in Maymester (pass with an A), and I am registering for one of his classes in the fall.

Excellent professor! I took this as a wintermester and I highly recommend taking his classes. He explains things very clearly and is definitely here to help you succeed as a student. Textbook usage is high, so I recommend getting it. As long as you put in the work and effort, you'll do well.

Please do not take this teacher for technical writing, if you need to do technical writing for nursing school you can substitute it with other classes like philosophy, ethics and other easy ones or just choose another teacher. You will not get a good grade and will have plenty of assignments. He does not grade well.

I took his online technical writing class. He was extremely helpful and answered all emails immediately. I wish I could have taken an on-campus class from him because he's funny, and very personable in his responses. I strongly recommend him to anyone willing to work and wanting an outstanding educational experience.

I took his online class. If you stay on top of everything the class is easy. If you start to slack Matter doesn't really like you. As long as you try and do the minimum requirement for everything you will get a good grade.

Dr. Matter is great professor. Even though I took this course online over 8 weeks the professor always answered my e-mails within 24 hours, and posted grades on time. The class is not easy, and it is more business writing than technical writing. i made an "A" and worked my butt of for it, but I would definitely recommend taking his class.

Good teacher, easy assignments, fair grader. He was very efficient in his email responses, and grade postings. I took it online, yet he was not distant, he always seemed caring about us as students. Tech writing is one of the better english classes, there are no long essays. ONE like 2-3 page paper at the very end, and it's honestly not that bad.

Didn't know why Engl 2311 was required for nursing until I took the course. One of the most important courses I have taken. Good feedback and you better proofread your assignments closely.

Bill Matter teaches in Learning Communities, which is something more students should know about. An LC takes two similar subjects (ENGL & GOVT in my case), ties in a theme (sci-fi in my case, but I know dystopias were another subject), and makes for a really awesome efficient class. He's taught LCs for many years; ask to take one, it's so worth it.

I took a learning community from him. It was a great experience. He's very knowledgeable and humorous. I would definitely recommend this professor.

This was a difficult class for me, but it was very beneficial. I updated my resume with Professor Matters assistance and received two job offers. I am currently enjoying my new employment. I made a B in this class but I learned a lot.

His technical writing class is definitely a great online course. Prof Matter responds quickly and cares about students. Proofread carefully, though, cause he's picky about wording. This is the most valuable course to my career that I have taken in college.

His learning community class is great. Yeah, we have a lot of printouts, but the class saves me a bundle on books. The govt text for most classes is over $120 and an english text would cost a bunch to. This class has NO textbooks, so I don't mind printing out the handouts. Matter is really sharp and his humor helps. Would gladly take again.

This professor is what all online teachers should be. He's quick to respond, thoughtful, but thorough in grading. He encourages you to proofread your stuff and has a sense of humor. I learned a lot from him and would gladly take again. I had a problem with one assignment and he really helped.

Dr. Matter gives good feedback. He always answers emails promptly. His online class was very well organized and he offered us extra credit, although he did mention he doesn't always do that. If you want to LEARN, take him. If you want something easy, don't. But I think you'd be hard pressed to find any 'easy' professor for this type class.

What I got was a well designed course taught by a prof at least on a par with (if not better than) the best and brightest at my university. Dr. Matter was accessible, knowledgeable, and witty. Take him.

Don't know what that "AWEFUL" rater is talking about. I took his ENGL 2311 course online and it was great. My grade at the end was .4 below what I needed for an A and he went back and re-graded a couple of assignments, adding just enough points to move me to A. What other prof would do that? He's the best!

Great professor with a well organized course. The 9 assignments follow the book and there are 9 quizzes. They don't count to much for the overall grade, so focus on the written assignments. took Summer 1301 online. 5 units, 1 per week. there were 2 writer notebooks, 1discussion board at 300 words each per unit. each unit had a big essay to write. biggest was 1200-1500 words. fair grader but there was quite a bit of work every week in the compressed semester format. Might be easier to work with during a regular semester. I'd take again

Great professor, he will try his best to help you with what you need. His papers are technical/ business oriented so its different from Engl 1301 and 1302. There are a few writing assignments, some are really easy and you can finish them in under an hour and some are a bit difficult. Quizs are from the book, one group paper and no final. Great prof

The work relates to what you would do in the work place which was pretty cool and he gives you pointers to make your work even better. Its fair to say that Dr. Matter basically saved my attitude about college. I had some personal and family issues that made me get behind in the class. It doesnt take long for an experienced online student to realize they have come across a real jewel for a professor. Dr. Matter is such a jewel. Instead of a mindless TA at my university or an burned out professor earning some extra money, Matter is sharp, on-point, and grammatically perceptive. He helped me improve my writing.

I just finished his flex term technical writing class. It's the most useful class I've had in college. He always graded quickly and answered emails in a flash. I recommend his course.

People who complain about tough grading need a reality check. I came back to school after 20 years in the business world and I've seen writing errors cost folks their jobs. I came back to school to work on my writing and Dr. Matter did a great job with that.

I took his online 1301 class and it was well organized and helpful. He is great at responding quickly to email and he even made me laugh with one of his answers. He is a real person, not just some robot grading papers.

Best prof I have had by far. If you do the work you'll do well in the course. I appreciated his teaching.

Professor Matter is one of the best that Richland offers. I took his joint class with Prof Ewing who is also awesome. Matter is funny, interesting, and is good about sending out reminder emails. He is inclusive and wants your honest opinion. You watch some films and do some group projects. Tests are easy if you pay attention in class/ to test prep.

I miss him! Our class went online only due to COVID-19 and now we don't have the amazing Learning Community togetherness. I don't like online only, but Dr. Matter is a gem. A real human being who cares about students.

Took this class entirely online, great experience! Everything is extremely clear and he even accepted late work. Replies very quickly and actually cares that you make a good grade. On my last assignment I forgot to press submit the second time so nothing was submitted and he personally emailed me to make sure I knew my assignment did not submit.

With COVID-19 everything is online and that's put extra stress on me and probably my professors, to. Prof. Matter does everything he can to grade quickly, but what I noticed is he is a real human being who shares his life as well as yours. Take him.

You will learn a lot from him and his class. He is a tough grader but gives good feedback. Have tutors read your paper with you, this will help your grade chances to be high.

I had to write about how great prof Matter is. I took his Engl 1301 and then more than a semester later I emailed him asking a question about an essay in another course. Didn't expect an email back. He not only emailed me immediately but gave me great advice about the history essay. So dedicated. Fantastic prof.

I would high recommend taking his class. As I did not meet him in person due to COVID, he is a pretty awesome person. His class is not necessarily easy, but it is self explanatory. Keep a planner and you should get an easy A. He explains what you miss on assignments, and gives good feedback. Take his class!

This class was an 8 week accelerated course, so there were assignments due almost every day. However, he makes it very clear what's due and how to do it - and nothing is overly complicated. He's generous with extra credit and truly seems to care about his students. I would absolutely take a class from this professor again. Highly recommend.

Everything was online in fall 2020 due to COVID-19, but this prof is clearly experienced at online teaching, not just forced to use it. His class requires a lot of writing but it helped me write better. Matter responds quickly with really good advice and he is easy to talk to in email. The best prof I have ever had.

Anyone who says this prof doesn't give fast feedback must have taken someone else. He graded everything super quick and made a lot of useful comments. Sure there's a lot of work but what do you expect in an online class. He's smart and funny, too. Look at the grammar of negative comments. That says something.

Very personable and helpful professor. I had a healthcare request refused. wrote a letter to appeal and was also refused. Showed my 2nd level appeal letter to Dr. Matter and he helped me edit. It was accepted. He knows his stuff! Plus, hes actually been in the business world. Great teacher.

I started out writing like crap. Thought that using big words made my writing sound sophisticated. Dr. Matter taught me that being clear was better than trying to impress. At first I didn't believe him but I showed my writing to others and they said, "What???" After rewriting, they said, "Yeah"! Thanks, Dr. Matter.

He always gave quick feedback and helped my writing. When my daughter was ill I missed an assignment. He let me make it up. Three days later he sent an email asking how my daughter was doing. Made me feel cared about. So thoughtful. I recommend him strongly.

Professor Matter has so much experience in writing, healthcare, and in the business world. He was also a cop so he knows about that kind of writing, too. Really enjoyed his feedback. He can be funny and helpful at the same time. I would take him again and again.

His 1302 class taught me a lot about writing. It wasn't hard as long as you keep up with the work. He gives you chances if you have a problem and always answered my emails quick. Like usually the day of or even hour of. He must sit at his computer a lot during the day.

He is so helpful when you email questions to him. Not like so many others who are slow to answer or even don't ever answer. He shares a little about himself, too, which is great for an online class. I would take him again gladly.

I loved this class. I took it during the summer online and while there were a bunch of assignments, I always felt like I was learning. Professor Matter really ties our work into real world applications. I was able to balance the work load on top of 6 more hours and a full time job. He is a fantastic professor and will always be open to helping you!

Great prof and great course. He remembered my mom had been sick and asked how she was doing. Who does that except a thoughtful, caring prof! He will make you do the work, but you'll learn. Not a typical online prof at all. He's human and he cares.

I want Dr. Matter back! Just started a new class with a different prof. Where's the humor? Where's the personality and personal touch that prof Matter has? I didn't realize what a gem I had until I got this new dude. Matter was always available and responded quickly. Summer II I had another prof but this new dude is so dull. I want Matter back!

He shares about his own life experiences and encourages you to write clear, concise sentences. So far his class has been great. He is an inspirational teacher with a great sense of humor.

Just finished his 8-week fast paced technical writing. Never realized how important that subject is for my future. Dr. Matter pays attention to the details that will get you hired or fired in the real world. He always responds quickly with good advice. It's not a hard course. Just keep up and you'll do great. My fav prof of all time.

I laughed because someone rated him as a tough grader with "so many papers" and rated the level of difficulty as super easy 1. Get your act together, dude. Which is it? It can't be both! Actually, there's about what I expected with the work load. Great class.

You have to do the work to earn your grade but thats how it works in the real world, too. He's a real-world professor who knows his stuff and will give you a break if you put out the effort. I would take him again and again.

He's a very funny teacher and wants the class to participate. You do have to show up to class and keep up with the work. He gives good feedback on essays and other assignments. Also tells cool stories about his life. Not too strict on late work. Wears cool animal shirts.

Professor Matter has a very quick wit, which I enjoy. Also, he cares about his students and really wants them to learn. I don't think he is a particularly tough grader, but he does pay attention to your wording and tells you when the wording has a grammar problem or is confusing. Dr. Matter was definitely my favorite professor this semester. He was very engaging, and he has a quick wit. He's never given anything higher than a 95 or 96 though, so don't expect to get easy 100s in his class. He does have a lot of extra credit opportunities though.

This professor restored my hope in my writing ability. This was my second attempt at ENGL1302 and Prof. Matter is far more clear with his expectations than my previous professor. He offers lots of extra credit opportunities, class time is engaging, and he is very considerate of any external issues his students are going through. Highly recommended.

He is an amazing professor. He is excellent in communicating with students and gives a lot extra credits. I took both ENGL 1301 and 1302, and I love it.

I'm taking his technical writing course in the May term, which is very short. Of course there are assignments every day because we are finishing an entire course in a month. Expect to do the work but he gives great feedback and it's good to have an actual technical writer for a teacher. I'm working hard but making an A. He's the best.

Just finished his technical writing online class and it was extremely helpful. I'm amused when someone says a prof doesn't give A's or grades above 90. How do they know? All they know is they didn't get those grades. In his class every grade I got was 90 or above. Sure, he makes you work, but I wanted to learn and I got a lot out of it.

Technical writing is by far the most valuable course I have had. It has practical information about the real business world. Since you pay for the class, don't complain if you have to do work. An easy A class won't teach you anything and I wanted to learn. Best professor and class.

Just dropped by to give props to Dr. Matter. Just took his online ENGL 2311 and it is NOT true that he doesn't give grades above 90. We did a group project and all five of us got one group grade, which was way above 90. Also, my course average was way above 90. If you do the work you'll get a good grade. It's a great class.

Best professor I've taken. I guess some people blame the professor if they make a C. How about blaming yourself? Community college doesn't mean an automatic A. Do the work. I did and made A grades on assignments. I recommend him. You will get valuable, real feedback.

Technical writing was a valuable course for me. The professor grades quickly and responds to emails quickly, too. The assignments are not too difficult as long as you keep up. They are the kind of writing that will benefit me in the future.

I thought I had made a B in his class because I had 891 points out of 1000. Just checked my grade and it is an A. He went back into previous assignments and added 9 points so I would have an A. Great surprise! He emailed me about it but I didn't see the email until now. Great professor. Very thoughtful. His comments are direct but on point.

Just finished his tech writing course. It was fast-track, so of course so there were assignments due most days (not every day). I laugh when someone says the prof doesn't give grades higher than 90. How do they know? He just didn't give that person grades higher than 90. ALL of my grades were higher than 90. Just do the work. You'll be fine.

I am ESL student so English is not my first language. This class is so helpful for me. I work hard to do well. Professor was so nice to explain my mistakes. I feel like I learn alot in this class. Thank you professor. I can write better letters and memos now.

His English 1301 class is so much fun. We do different writings everyday. Sometimes listen to music and if you wear a hat you may get a bonus point. He does all kinds of new things to keep the class interesting.

We learned all about musical literature. It was very interesting and the material was easy to remember. There was only one major essay and we had the entire semester to work on it. Prof. Matter is caring and shows concern whenever a student is absent for an extended stretch of days. His lecture style is funny and encourages participation.

Professor Matter is fantastic. Even though I had him online, he was active and engaging. He was VERY patient when it came to late work (Don't take it for granted). His assignments are very interesting and teach you how to write memos, and proposals in a professional work setting. I fully enjoyed the semester with his class and you will too.

I took forms of lit with Prof. Matter and really enjoyed the course. Prof. Matter knows how to give an informative and interesting lecture. There were not many homework assignments as most work was done in class. Regular attendance is necessary to achieve a good grade! He is a humorous and knowledgable prof. and I recommend him highly.

I had Professor William for 1301, and now I have him for 1302. I highly recommend taking his class, it is never boring because he has something new every day for the class that is very interesting. Taking this class has taught me a lot, and I would say it is one of the classes I always look forward to attending.

Prof Matter is such a great teacher. You can genuinely tell he cares about his students but he grades pretty harshly on his papers, but that's only because he cares that you're learning the material.

Didn't know I would be getting a picky tech writing professor who knows the real world. It was as hard as my university classes but I really learned a lot. Besides, Matter is funny, too. This was the most fun class I had in a long time. If you turn in all your assignments you should easily get an A. His rants are so funny and interesting. We also watch a lot of music videos and analyze the lyrics, which makes learning English even more entertaining and engaging. He also gives us plenty of extra credit.

One of my favorite class experiences ever. I genuinely looked forward to every class because he made it so entertaining. He gives clear instructions and is never hesitant to help or accommodate his students.

He was good at explaining and clarifying all the assignments. However, if you are just trying to take this class to pass, it won't be easy. He grades hard, but he means well. The curriculum was not hard, but the strict grading made me question all of my work. I never received a 100 on a written assignment, but not impossible to get an A.
