This was a great teacher- very good at putting his notes online and giving loads of extra credit! Would say anyone should take him for Microbiology!

This is a great teacher, he explains everything in it's entirity. Goes from very basic to complex, where you can build upon it. Very fair and gives extra credit. He is just great, hard to get into his classes though everyone wants to take him.

His test were really had but he gives you lots of chances fort extra credit. He is a good teacher and for the most part his lectures were interesting

Yes he give you the answere to all the essay questions. You have to study like no other class. This is a call more about him than biology. But, he is not on the test.

Mr. Matthai is great, and he is good at making things interesting. He is very fair, and he gives opportunities for extra credit. This class was VERY hard, but I'm glad I took it with him because he is very clear about what is going to be on his exams, and he doesn't pull any tricks.

Awesome instructor. Gives xtra credit, funny & straight up. If u can handle the truth, then he's the guy. No slackers needed here. U can pass his class only if u put forth the effort.

He is not the easiest teacher but he tells you what to study for and even gives you the answers to what he is looking for on his web site.Lots of extra credit points are given.He has lots of information on his web site that really helps. You get your tests back either the same day or the next class time.You can tell he really likes being a teacher.

Provides you with the notes, answers to essays, practice tests and answers from which half the questions on the actual exams come from, and lots of opportunities for extra credit. He does require effort and some work, but if you take advantage of of everything he gives, you can pull an A fairly easy.

While the class was hard, Mr. Matthai made the class so much easier with his notes, outlines, and he is one of the few teachers to give extra credit. Take advantage of those,do his practice tests!, and above all don't slack off or skip lab. I LOVE THIS TEACHER!! He gives you every chance to do well and all he asks is that you show up for class ready to learn! He REALLY loves what he does and will help you in any way he can. He is the only teacher for this class as far as I am concerned!!

All you have to do is try! lots of extra credit, practice tests available, gives you the essay ?'s w/ answers. tests are difficult. be ready to go to work and if you not going to put in the effort then you shouldn't be in microbiology anyways!

He is really nice and is a typically trying to be funny elder professor. He gives you everything you need to know for each test including the answers to the essay questions. the labs were too easy but fun. he repeates himself ALOT so be prepared to be bored for a bit. but all in all he is a pretty good teacher.

He is an AWESOME professor. He is very helpful and it is a very intreging class. I wish I had him for all my classes. He keeps you on your toes and there is plenty of extra credit. I would recomend him he knows his stuff.

Incredible! Very accurate, precise and clear in lecture and lab. He makes a STRONG effort to make sure the student knows what they need to know - even down to giving you answers! The best teacher I ever had in my college career!!

Tough course, but Mr. Matthai is by far the best Micro Professor. There is a ton of extra credit and it is definitely not impossible to make an A. If you put forth the effort and study, you will like your results. He is very passionate about his stuff and its evident in his interesting lectures. I would definitely recommend this prof.

I only had Matthai for Lab but he was an excellent teacher! He is very helpful and loves his job! He does tend to be a little longwinded sometimes however and has put me to sleep during his repetitions but he rocks in every other way, and the class was easy to follow and an easy A.

Mr. Matthai is an excellent teacher who makes micro fun. I definately reccomend him to anyone taking 2420.

I thought he was hilarious at first, but he got annoying real fast. Makes it well-known that he is good at micro. He is a good lab teacher, seeing as he's been doing it forever! Tests weren't bad, class is interesting, and obviously mandatory. must buy lab manual. unknown project isn't as hard.

This guy is a microbiologist at heart. He loves it. He teaches really well and tries hard to help students understand the concepts. He gives extra credit and WANTS you to do well. A little unapproachable, but overall a nice teacher. You will have a good understanding of micro when you are done with his class!

Mr. matthai is a great guy. His lectures are good-write down everything he says and study that and you will get an A. I barely used my book. Memorize all the essay questions and answers, study the notes and you should do fine. The lab is fun and not too hard! He is a good prof to take for Micro.

Mr. Matthai is a caring and great teacher! He acts like he is a hardball but does EVERYTHING in his power to help you pass his class. He offers great extra credit and fully expects you to attend his classes. Your final is memorizing 20 essay questions which is an easy 100. I would not take any other teacher for Micro!!!!!

I really depend on these comments when choosing my teachers and for those others of you that do also, I would tell you to take his class. Offers extra credit, very interesting, would recommend him to my own son who is in college. I studied the objectives, not the outline, and got an A (time consuming, but worth it). If you need Micro, he's great!

good teacher gives test reviews; study reviews you can make an "a" also gives makeup if you miss. plenty of extra credit options - this is not an easy course as i expected. he's very knowlegable

His presentations were interesting. Didn't like how his information was scattered around in the book, so you have to get used to it. Study the objectives and always attend class! It seriously made this class easier for me. I honestly think he's too lenient with extra credit and essay questions. May seem arrogant, but he actually is a nice person.

Had him for Micro Lab. Funny guy. Tests can be hard - but I learned a lot and would take again. Project is interesting.

He is an awesome teacher. Study exam objective out line and memorize essay questions, then you are all set. Strongly recommend to attend class because many of his exam questions come from his lecture, but not in the book.

This man knows his stuff. Refrain from asking stupid questions, ditching class, and interrupting and you will be fine. I loved this class, and honestly, his personal stories helped me remember the material as they always had something to do with the material. Tons of EC. I didn't expect much, but leaving this class I have new love for micro.

I'll be honest-i took it in spring, got a Bthen took it right after that in the summer and got my A. he is the opposite of dull-sometimes inappropriate. very helpful in helping me achieve what i wanted. you can customize the extrcred according to the grade you want basically. I recommend him if you go to NE campus

Awesome professor. Very straight forward and precise information. Don't get into semantics with him and take it as it's given. Don't ask questions that'll digress from the lectures and you'll stay on his good side. Strict timing and moral so he'll favor no student and what you work for is what you'll get. And opportunities for lots of extra credit!

Mr Mathai has be teaching MicroBiology since the 1960's and really knows his stuff. This is a hard course but he makes it fun. His lectures are humorous and interesting and well structured and organized.

Good class, but I think he gives way too much extra credit. Too many people got A's, which makes it unfair for those of us who truly EARNED the A without extra credit. There is a ton of overlap from Bio 1&2 if you took the class at a university. I didnt have to study much. Labs are fun and he's a cool dude. Just go to class and it's cake.

I am so glad he was my microbiology teacher. I learned a lot from his class, and his lectures were always interesting! He gives his student every resource they need to get an A in the class, but you have to put in the effort. Great professor.

He is an awesome professor. Very knowledgeable, funny and helpful. His motto is "no surprises (from him), no excuses (from you). Stick to that and you will be golden AND learn a ton! Almost changed my major to lab after this class, I loved it so much.

I had him this summer.. I wish I had this class during fall.. He was amazing. I studied hard and I am very grateful with my grade :).. His multiple choice part was a bit lengthy...It was good to see a professor with real passion in his career and field of microbiology.

Lectures are interesting, never a dull moment, He loves the subject he teaches. Take good notes and read the book. He gives you a checklist of all the material you need to know for the exams. T/F are a bit tricky if you don't know the material. MC usually has one clear choice. Essays are a slam dunk if you prepare.

Microbiology is hard subject, but Mr. Matthai could't have prepared us more for what's expected without doing the work and taking the tests for us! He's perfectly clear on what's expected. I LOVE Matthai's class. His class is NOT a blow off class, but he gives you many resources and it could be a really easy A. Just study, do ALL the extra credit, and you will do just fine. Studying is a big part but he gives answers to his essays prior to exams and he has practice exams. Failing his class is hard to do.

his lab is the best he wrote the lab manuel so he knows what he is talking about for lect he doesnt provide ppt but an outline to take notes on his test haves short answer which are easy because he will give u the answers to them way before so its pretty much a free 30 points the rest its mult choice if u study easy easy class

Nothing is better than having a passionate professor. Mr. Matthai is a pretty outstanding teacher. Microbiology isn't the easiest subject, but Mr. Matthai will make it clear for you.

Preferably have science background (A&P, chemistry). Mr. Matthai is the best science teacher I ever had. Very clear with what is expected from the course.Great teaching style. This is a very hard class unless you actually give yourself time to study. He gives you all of the information you need for tests and if you ever need help with anything he will explain it in detail to you if you're having trouble with it. He is a born teacher. He is passionate about his subject and gives you every resource imaginable to make a good grade. I took the class in the summer so it was accelerated and I studied quite a lot. This is not an easy class but he has a formula that works. Do the work and you will succeed.

If he talks about how horrible the textbook is one more time, I'm gonna....Nevermind. He is very funny and loves the subject. I learned a lot. Gives students every opportunity to be successful. However, micro is a difficult course and I think general biology should be a prerequisite.
