Very tough teacher. Only grades on 4 tests, nothing more. Will help you if you sit down with him.
Made subject more difficult than it needed to be.
Write everything you possibly can on the one little piece of paper you can have during the tests. Don't sit in the front row!
He is very fair, and is easy to understand. WANTS you to learn, and will give you as much help as you need. If you pay attention and do your work, you'll do great.
I hated this class!!! It didn't matter what you wrote on the cheat sheet. It didn't help.
Chapter 12 the hardest.Listen carefully to him and you'll do well.Don't miss class.Do homework. Ask questions or he'll move on.
SUCKS THE WORST EVER
He does give quite a bit of homework but it pays off. Don't shy away from asking questions. Trust me it doesn't get any easier if you move on to the next level. Taking Stats I at Rutgers is not a joy. Take it at GCC even with Mays.
i had this guy for a day and dropped him b/c he is so hard and makes no sense!
Very good teacher. Go to every class, do all the homework, and ask questions if you need to, and you will do well. Test questions are often straight from the homework, and he allows one sheet of notes to use during the tests. Very fair & very good.
Had him for statistics which the exams were pretty difficult, got him for Applied Calculus he is very helpful and willing to help if you ask for help
I am currently taking Mays for Statistics and I am certain he knows what he's talking about when it comes to statistics, but he just doesn't know how to relay his knowledge to others. He confuses me more than helps me.
if u want someone to make fun of...take his class. he has the funniest habits and phrases. as for the class...it's easy..but if you have any problems, don't expect him to solve them for you. He doesn't know how to explain anything.

He spent a good 45 mins. walking around the room to each student to check his/her homework. We would spend 5 mins. on the homework then he moved on and poof! Class was over. Very confusing.
If you do the homework and participate, this is not a difficult class. He's a little over-energetic but is willing to help you if you need help (and ASK). I thought he was a good teacher since he would always answer even the most obvious of questions.
The kind of class that you either get it or you don't. If you are good at math, you will do well. He is helpful if you ask for help. Show up for all classes and do the work and it is not that hard
By far the WORST prof ever. He doesnt teach! Had him for 3wk Stats class and he wouldn't answer any questions, just kept telling us "when you're in this place calledCollege, you need to Think!!" Arrogant #*$#@! Gives 8-10hrs of HomeWork each cla

Horrible. He would assign homework on sections not covered in class,as a student you would follow the books method of teaching and next class he would review the homework but when you had a question he would explain by his method. Talks down to students and discourages. Terrible method of "Teaching"
A typical nerdy math teacher, but I really liked him. He does move fast but he took the time to help me through this class with a C. I thought for sure I was going to fail, but he helped me through it. He's a good person and I enjoyed having him as a teacher. I'm taking him again for Algebra!
I really enjoyed his class. If you work hard, study and have a good cheat sheet you will do well. I barely passed Algebra, but got an A in his class. I would take him again and have recommended him to others.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. He doesn't explain anything correctly and the homework assinged is long and arduous yet non applicable to the test questions! Horrible!!!
Mr. Mays is a fair teacher. You get what you put into the class. If you miss class you will fall behind. The cheat sheet is great and used for all four tests. The best is that his grading system is four tests added and divided by four. Great idea -no point systems !
Im doing pretty well in his class...as long as you dont miss too much classes and study b4 the test you'll b fine! Make sure do write down everything he puts on the board b/c he allows a cheat sheet for the test and if you take notes of everything you'll be fine! Hes helpful!
He's cool. it was pretty easy. You'd have to be a moron to fail this class, especially since he lets u have a cheat sheet for the test. If you miss class then ull fall behind. Also, all the homework are the odd numbers because the answers are in the back of the book!
Makes class ridiculously hard. Puts two problems on the board and spends the period walking around class, while everyone sits and waits. He's hard to follow on the teaching too.

Dont take him!!! He takes forever in a day, to teach, and he rambles on and on and on and on...if you have a questions, he confuses you even the more. I failed this class, and I became very frustrated because I never failed the class. Part of it was my fault, because I should have done more homework. He only grades your exams, no extra credit.
He lets you use a cheat sheet, so honestly, how hard could he be? His test questions are literally straight from his notes that he puts up on the board. I never did any homework and still got an A.

Not the best, not the worst. If you go to class, do the homework, and make a good cheat sheet (which he lets you use), you'll do fine.
He only gave out 4 tests total and no quizzes or other opportunites to earn grades and they were difficult and only had so many questions which meant if you got 10 wrong, you basically failed the test. I dropped the class.

Put me to sleep every class. didn't collect homework but didn't explain a thing on the quizs and tests.
STAY AWAY! This guy is a complete joke. He is very hard and can't teach to save his life. I think we only had 4 tests covering way too many chapters at a time. I got a "D" in his class and I took the same exact course over with Mr. Grimm and got an "A". What does that tell you? The guy stinks! Beware!
he's a nice guy, gives you lots of homework that you dont have to do, and grades pretty easy on the tests... but the class is very boring.

THERE ARE 2 MR. MAYS... THE FATHER AND THE SOON. i had the father for stats and i think he is a good teacher. the tests are easy because he lets you make a cheat sheet to use and he gives homework but doesn't check it. he's also very nice and helpful.
One of the best teachers at GCC. Very helpful and makes learning fun!! Would recommend him to everyone. And the best part the test are easy!
i had to teach this stuff to myself and went to the tutoring center constantly. He would put up on the board what was already in the textbook. I needed him to explain what was happening and he was horrible at it. Not good in math, better go with someone else who can explain why, not just throw it out there for nothing.
He is very nice and tries to help you, but he is not that good at explaining things. I had a lot of trouble with calculus and I had to do a good amount of learning on my own. He only had about 4 tests. They were kind of difficult for me. If you are not good at math than you might not want to take this teacher.
Not a good teacher if you don't know math. He goes over things very quickly, but no homework. He's an alright guy, but not my favorite. If you know math and you've done algebra you'll be fine but if not don't take this class.
I had Mays for his once a week, 3 hour class and it was terrible. You can't miss one class because you will miss so much information. He only gives four tests the whole semester so if you do bad on one of them it brings your grade down quite a bit. Each test contains at least 3 to 4 chapters so you have to know a lot. Great teacher..not sure why so many complaints.Arent we in college?At some point we have to stop assuming grades are to be handed to us.Lets you know what is on the tests and always asks if there are questions,it is your problem if you do not speak up.The book is great and easy to understand.I hate math but got an A and I even missed a few classes
Best math teacher Ive ever had. I recommend him all the time. He will keep going over it until everyone gets it. I took this class with another teacher and got a D. I retook it with Mays Jr. and got an 89!

he's a nice, decent guy but when it comes to teaching he's not the best. i feel as if i taught myself the majority of the materail we covered. if your not good/into math then i dont suggest you take this class...however a good grade is possible. Grade based on only 4 tests!!!

Your grade is based on 4 tests! Just make sure you put down any little bit of work on your tests and you will get credit!! His class is hard to sit through.. but what math class isn't!! He's a nice guy and tries to keep the class enjoyable. I ended up getting a B+ in his class!!
You really do need to be math inclined to do well in his class. No way, anyone is keeping up with the amount of homework, though you don't have to do it. He is a wiz with math, but not a very good teacher. You will have to teach yourself at home with the text book. Good luck with the 4 tests, because that is all you get.
Do not take this class if you have any other options!! You will regret it. He is so hard! He is not helpful. He gets annoyed when you ask questions even when he tells you to ask questions. He gives homework. His tests are impossible! Do yourself a big favor and don't waste your time!
This class is based on four tests. lets you use a cheat cheat. You must attend every class unless you want to fall behind. He is an okay guy but sucks at explaining things clearly.
keep away, this man is harmful to your GPA! unless you are really good at math! Worst teacher I've had, he teaches at light speed no matter who you are! I'm a A-B student (including math) until taking his class. Just stay away!
Avoid this class at ALL cost. I somehow got a B, by the grace of GOD I guess. His teaching skills are very poor. He expects you to know this stuff and skips many steps while teaching it. I am an excellent Math student and this class nearly killed me. Graded on 4 tests only and does allow a cheat sheet.

HATE THIS GUY. He doesn't show you ANYTHING. Most of the time he'll assign you homework on sections you didn't even cover yet. The cheat sheets help, but the problems on the test are way harder than the problems you go over in class.
Boring teacher. Would cover work in class that had half revavence to the test and would never teach the home work i think i remember two days that we coverd questions from the homework but other thatn that your on your own. no reinforcement. my advice find another teacher.
This teacher is horrible, he wrote the previous 2 reviews about himself. Dont do your homework or come to class, all you need to do is good on the test. Picky grader takes points off for not using a period or question mark. BEWARE!!
Started out okay in the first week of summer class, but i soon saw his true colors. The guy is a complete arrogant jerk, who talks WAAAAAAAAY too much. On top of that he yelled at me for taking a break when i was stressed while taking the last test (which surprising did well) but he's a jerk don't take him.

I found him to be an alright teacher in Math for Management. My only problem with him is that his notes are a little hard to read sometimes. Though this may be a little biased to the easy side since I'm already familiar with a good portion of the stuff in the class.
I failed his class when I took it because I rarly went a put no effort in it. Despite this I feel he is a great teacher. Uses the chalk board a lot and gives a lot of homework out of the book but doesnt grade them. He's test are on the subject and fairly easy, and he grades your work too. Although he's older he comical and is willing to help.

Professor Mays is very nice and helpful. Although I barely passed this class, it had nothing to do with the way he teaches; I just should've not taken a crash course on statistics:( I would take him again though. He gives lots of homework, but tests are not that bad and he gives credit if he sees your work; even if answers are wrong. Fair grader.
Mr. Mays is a nice guy, a little corny, but i thought his tests were easy. i also had algebra before in high school so most was a review, but the tests were pretty straightforward. he can get a little cocky with you if he doesnt understand your questions. 4 tests and that avg is your grade. attendance and hw is not included in grade

He is super nice, one of the nicest that i have had, he is more then willing to help you out, he tells you everything that is on the tests and if you go for extra help he tells you what is on the test and what is work on
Mays Sr. is very nice, helpful and really wants you to pass.gives credit for correct formula even if you got incorrect answer.does not make you feel dumb. takes time to review any difficulties. gets right back to you with questions on e-mail.not familiar with Mays jr. but very happy with sr.
I thought Mays Jr. was a great teacher. Yes, homework does not count toward your grade. So if you don't do it, you're SOL. He does take the time to make sure you understand. But you have to be willing to work. And no, you can't whine and he doesn't change his standards for students who don't do the work. If willing to work, you will learn & do well
Worst teacher I have had yet coming to GCC. His tests are ridiculous, and thats all your grade counts on. He tells you what homework to do but does not collect it. He is boring, I want to fall asleep in his class half of the time. I had a B in math 105, math 151 covers mostly the same stuff and yet I failed the exams.
I was really nervous about taking this class, but it turned out to not be that bad. As long as you show up and show him that you care, he cares. He can come off as arrogant at times but for the most part a nice guy. He doesn't make you feel stupid at all for asking questions and tries his best to help you understand. I'd take him again
Awesome teacher, Im not the most gifted when it comes to math but this material was very easy. Mays helps you understand it you just have to put in the effort and notbe one ofthose students who never shows up and has a poor attitude. I got and A in the class
Horrible teacher. The only thing his grade is based on is the exams. I did not like his teaching style, he would just throw numbers on the board and not explain where he was getting them (matrices). I got so frustrated and stopped going the last 2 weeks. I retook this class in Summer I with another professor and passed with an A.
I am currently still in this class which I attend 1 a week. First day was skeptical. When I saw how much HW we got I freaked and it is not even collected! Tests are only like 15 questions! Went for help didnt get the amount of time needed! Does not tell u what specific problems will be on the test just the sections! Am very frusterstated with him.
I am also in his current class and he treats us like we are 5 years old! He says "Little people inside the machine have to light a candle" every single time he uses the SmartBoard. He's not very helpful and you have to be EXACT when reading a problem to him! If you don't know terminology it's your problem! I would avoid his classes!!
Is a nice teacher but goes to fast through the material. He also puts to much on his exams and that is all he grades on. So you can't make up on home work or such. If you are not a math person do NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
I really like Mr. Mays teaching style. He explains everything so you can understand and uses tons of examples. The homework he gives is never collected or graded. He'll make the time out side of class for you. His test are not multiple choice. But he does give partial credit. Also you are allowed to use one sheet of paper for notes during his tests
He is a good teacher however, his tests are extremely hard! He puts the hardest problems on the test. Even using 1 page of notes doesn't help much. Math majors may do well as he makes it very challenging. Grade is based only on 4 tests. Tests cover several chapters each. Expect to put alot of time into this class.
An exceptionally nice man and he can make you laugh. He teaches very fast and sometimes has a hard time getting the instructions from his head to his students. He know what he's doing just not how to really teach it. I probably won't take him again because his tests are hard. He switches the math around and makes it harder than it should be.
This was the easiest class I've ever taken. No need to purchase the textbook for this one - you can work completely off of the powerpoints. Also, no need to attend class either because all powerpoints will be posted online. The lectures were very slow and boring, and I felt as if Professor Mays talked down to the class like we were children.
If you print out the notes he provides, do homework, and study you will get a good grade. Yes, test are hard but he lets you fill out a paper front and back for notes to use in the test. All of the information you need is in the notes he provides. I was able to put all the notes information on my note sheet. He is also very helpful.
This professor is incredibly good at explaining difficult topics and making them as easy to understand as possible. Lecture notes and examples are fair and reflect the test very well. He will make sure you understand the topics at hand.
Prof. Mayes is a great teacher. He understands what he is teaching and makes sure everyone else understands too. He allows two sided sheet of notes on tests and will give partial credit on tests. He doesn't tell you to just take his word for it but will explain concepts. He is picky about us using the correct terminology but that is good. Great Guy
hes a bully. anytime you do something you do not like he will make a scene out of it and embarrass you infront of the class like you are in high school. unfortunately i am forced to take him again but i absolutely abhor him worst professor or even teacher ive ever had
His tests are a lot harder than the actual notes. Takes forever to respond to emails. Please do not take this professor if you do not have to.
