Ugh, take psychology with someone else. he's a****.
his class is so easy, you just gotta do the study guides for each test because they are exactly the same question as the test. no lie he gives you the test three weeks before you take it.
He pulls test questions straight from the textbook's website, so if you go over those, you'll get *at least* a C without really reading the book. He mainly uses in-class time to discuss how the text applies to everyday life. Also, he's pretty laid-back about attendance (5 days before penalty).

He is so boring, drags on, and goes off of subject. Don't take him in the mornings you will fall alseep. He is overall a bad teacher.

He's a terrible teacher... in fact he doesn't really teach at all. I highly reccomend not taking him as a teacher.
Dr. Mellan likes to hear the sound of his own voice. If you read the text before he disusses it, make one or two comments in class and disregard everything says. You should do fine if you take extensive notes from the text. Online and CDROM practice tests are very helpful, too.

Do not take classes with him unless you enjoy selfteaching your self. He wonders around and does not teach. He will give his helpful hints, but that does not even cover 25% of the test. Please look for somebody else.

low cut shirts didn't help i got 2 50's on both the tests and then i withdrew, but he doesn't go over what is going to be on the tests. and all he talks about it is how you should date a person when they are really wasted, so you can find out who they really are. he is werid
To pass his class answer the review question (questions are not in ch. by ch. order) and memerize them cus he uses the review for the test and only uses a few of the questions on the test though. He give a test every 3-4 ch., and has u do 2 article analysis, and 10 hrs. of community service.
I was in his class for 2 weeks and I decided to drop his class. He spends the whole class time trying to make jokes. He wanders off the subject alot.I heard he was a bad teacher, but registered for his class anyways. I heard Joette Naftel is a better SYG teacher. Take her instead.
If you read your chapters, and do the handout review, and pay attention when he's lecturing you should do fine. Tends to come off subject, put pretty funny and easy ask questions to.
Dr. Mellan is a great teacher. I've never noticed him checking anyone out in class. If you show some respect for his experience and knowledge he will recognize that. Th study guides are exactly what is on the test. Only a true slacker can fail his class.
I really like Dr. Mellan!! sure you have to study on your own but he gives us a review with everyhting that is gouing to be on the test!!! Can't make it any easier than that!!!!
Dr. Mellan is an excellent professor !!!!! You have to be an idiot to fail his class. He gives you a study guide with everything that will be covered on his exams..What more could you ask for? If you are a serious student you will do great, but if you never go to class and don't do the study guide, you will not do so good. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Mellon's class is not as easy as they say. He is a fair teacher. He does give you the study guides; however, does not go over them without getting side tracked and not finishing. You might as well just buy the book and read it cover to cover because that is what you have to do to pass his class! I was really interested in this class but not after i took him! More than half my class failed! No joke!
Dr. Mellan is a very intelligent man..he tells you straight out that nothing he says will be on the test. Read the book! I made 3 C's a B and a B on the final and with the two papers I made an A. if you show up to class and are polite to him he helps you out by bumping up your grade I think at the end

Absolutely boring. Little of the study guide is on the actual test. Going to class is almost pointless if it weren't for it being required. Your textbook is your friend. And unless you're a 60 year old nerd. You won't get his jokes. Not very helpful and is unclear 90% of the time about what he wants.

Dr. Mellan isnt so bad, I liked him. Took him for sociology and psychology, he really knows all about the subject but think he just likes to hear himself talk. He does help you out before test with reviewing exactly what you need to know, so if you pay attention and read book you will do well. He is a funny, cracks alot of jokes.

I had Dr. Mellon for Sociology and psychology. I really enjoyed his classes and learned allot. If you read the chapters BEFORE going to class and watch the news you will understand what he is talking about. He relates the material in the book to current and historical events.
Dr. Mellan is very friendly, especially if you?re a girl. Lectures are never related to any test material and the study guide is only good for practicing origami. Attendance is no longer mandatory so class has gone from 30 to about 14 of us now. No assignments just 4 tests and a journal, tests are very hard. If you need an education I would avoid.
I had Mellan for sociology AND psychology in the same semester. I had to drop sociology. He does not teach at all. If you are good at teaching your self go for it. He cracks a lot of jokes but no one really laughs. He expects you to read the entire book from front to back. If you don't have a life or job have plenty of time on your hand go for him
Okay, well he wasn't that bad. You have to teach yourself - like make flashcards and practice doing the essay q's at home, but on the bright side you only have to show up for tests and do the journal analysis at the end and you'll get an A. He's a very nice guy. I liked him :)

I can only describe this teacher as 'meh.' The subject was interesting to me, but the classes are totally irrelevant to the tests. Attendance isn't even mandatory, just show up to get the reviews and take the tests. READ THE TEXTBOOK. You will fail if you don't! Don't take this guy if you can avoid it.

Run away! This professor is of no help to anyone. You might as well teach yourself sociology because his lecture have no relevance to sociology at all. There is only 5 grades the whole semester and no extra credit. My whole class had question marks across their face when they were in class. Unless sociology is your thing DONT take him!
Not really for anyone under 30 years of age . Better be interested in current events , talks a lot off topic about daily world events. Read the book and do the study sheet and you'll fine. NOT a hard class. If your political bend is anything right of Bill Clinton, don't bother taking his class or be prepared to not like him.

He literally doesn't teach at all. He just babbles on about current events that involve politics, wealth classification, and religion. Doesn't talk about the chapters at all.
His class itself is easy, but he is not helpful at all and very unclear. I took the course online, there was one assignment on canvas due every week and it was questions he made up about chapter, then there was a few quizes on the online textbook website pearson. would only recommend him for someone who is good with teaching themselves online.
He has a super easy class. Took him for IDS. Literally brought in poems, read them out loud, showed him a sad song on you tube and then he rambled off subject for two hours and we went home. EASY A.

Dr. Mellan is very smart so his lectures talk about knowledgeable information in the course. There is a final research essay paper to write in order to pass this class. Test are five chapters long so be ready to read also on line Pearson revel quizzes are mandatory.
Flat out awful, get out of this class and take someone else. You will be teaching yourself and he will not help you. Everything is a waste of your time. Final paper there is no help from him retook and ended up with a B.
Textbook is online. All work is done online. Except for the test, which are five chapters per test. Test are hard. He is a smart man but his teaching methods are no good. Be preparded to teach yourself because all he does talk a bit about the chapter and the rest of the class he rambles. Wish i would have dropped his class when i could.

I received an A in this class because i had the time to read the textbook! tests are STRICTLY from the textbook. if your one of those students who learns by reading this is the class for you! if you take his class reread the chapters as much as you hve time for! also the essay assigned it super easy, basically just turn it in!!!
I got an A in his class can't complain about that. In emails he does not describe well enough doesn't go much into detail. Overall if you take him online prepare to do lots of school work in a short amount of time I'd suggest to work ahead.
He's a very interesting man. You have to read the book. All of the tests are based from the book and you get a grade from the work you do online. It's basic and easy. Gives option on every test to complete extra credit, I highly recommend doing that.
William Mellan was good professor. Graded things on time, answered to emails in a timely manner and was considerate of his grading. I would recommend you take him for psychology.

Took professor Mellan for psychology in person and failed because he doesnt teach about the material thats on his tests. Took him again but online and passed, its a lot easier if you take his course online.
This professor is annoying. He does not put in grades at all. How am I supposed to know how I am doing in the class? That is unfair to students. I deserve to know my grade. All my other classes I have A's and B's and I have never failed a class but I'm worried about this stupid class because he has not put in grades and his tests are so hard.

Me again! I asked him when he will put in grades and he said in a week. Okay, well I graduated HCC and would not like to find out I failed a class after graduating HCC. And I would hope he would tell me if I was failing the class but I would not know because he does not post grades. All I know is I better pass or we are going to have a problem.
took the class online, everything was based on the textbook so its easy to go back and find what you need for the assignments, he responds to emails in a timely manner and gives good feedback on your assignments after grading them. his online classes are very easy!
Professor does not lecture on anything related to what is on the exams that he gives. Be prepared to basically try to teach yourself. Reading the textbook word for word got me no where, because the exam questions had nothing to do with what I read. In class, you are only graded on 4 big exams, if you can't pass the tests, you won't pass the class.
Took his psych class online, and it was SUPER easy. Mainly just busy book work and then online assignments. Also has a journal article review. Super relaxed, easy grader, just be prepared to do a lot of book work. Easy A, Recommend!
Professor Mellan bases everything out of the text book. His lectures are horrible, they are never on topic, or about the chapters we are working on. He is constantly off topic and doesn't teach. He has four tests throughout the semester, and that's your grade! I've heard his online classes are easier, but I do not recommend taking him in class.
I took him in class for psychology, failed. I retook him online and passed. Took him again for sociology and passed. Moral of the story, take him online or youll fail.
Get ready to read to teach yourself. The assignments are not hard, they're questions about the chapter, quizzes after each section, and a test embedded in the online textbook at the EOC. He is easily accessible and gives extra credit opportunities in almost every chapter assignment. Just don't take two of his online classes at the same time!!
Online. Need the textbookcess code. Online Pearson assignments were the chapters practice quizzes/practice test from the book. So you can technically work ahead in the book, all multiple choice. He does have his own assignments 8-10 questions about material from that specific chap w/ same due date as online. Pretty awesome teacher.
SUPER easy class. I took him for Psych 1 online and it was so easy. Only hw is 6-9 written questions + 1 extra credit. (copy and paste directly from the online text), 3-6 question quiz in text, & 20 question quiz at end of each chap. No discussions!! Love that. Also one research report which he is not a hard grader. You only need the access code.
I'll start off by saying he's a friendly man, but we know that's not why we're in college. We started out with around 30+ students, ended with 7. He was impossible. He gave lists of terms to memorize and that's all our tests are. he never explained it at all. It's very confusing. he never let us know that revel gave xtra points til the end of term
first off STUDY, this prof is NOT a tough grader in writing responses, but tests are tough! responds/grades FAST, medium homework, lots of extra credit. due to covid-19 I transferred to online so I know how the class is online/on campus. on campus 4/5 difficulty, online 3/5, test get harder online but to be honest, its open book so don't stress it.
Professor Mellan is amazing !! all you will have to do for this class if taken online is 15 chapter questions that he gives you , answer questions on the person revel along with the questions and only will have one research paper to do ! Highly recommended!!
A decent amount of work but it's easy as long as you read and do the assignments, you should pass. He gives a lot of extra credit; I ended with a 101.79. Don't take this and Abnormal Psych with him at the same time because the due dates are so close together that its a very heavy workload. He replies to every assignment with some feedback.

Mellans online class has all the assignments posted before they are due so work at your own pace, but beware of due dates. His general psych class is very straightforward and I spent about 3-4 hours a week doing his assignments. There are 16 chapter reviews, 2 tests, and one Journal Article review. Extra credit in every assignment. Book is free.

Class was very easy, I took it hybrid. I had about one assignment per week, dont procrastinate on it, usually the assignment is very easy just a lot of work. One thing I will say is the lecture was not very helpful. He graded fast and was not a tough grader.
Professor Mellan is a very understanding professor and is flexible when you communicate with him. His general psych class had 16 chapters, each with 8-10 questions and an ample amount of extra credit. He normally responds to messages within 24 hours and is very helpful. Text book is also online and free.
This class requires lots of reading but it is actually interesting. Lots of extra credit is available, as long as you do your work you will do fine. He is very good at giving feedback and grading things quickly.
Mellan is a GREAT PROFESSOR! There is only a few assignments due every couple of days and they are not bad. Read the material and you'll be fine. One essay at the end, topic of your choice. Highly recommend and would definitely take again.
Professor Mellan is a wonderful teacher who cares for his students but with a tendency to often ramble. His classes were easy & usually humorous to listen to, but most of the learning came from reading directly from the textbook. Always gave kind and constructive feedback, graded quickly, and gave tons of extra credit (I ended with close to 110%!).

He is an exceptional professor who gives and receives positive feedback. His assignments are also straightforward. I highly recommend taking his class.
This professor is super straightforward and the class fairly simple. All the assignments are just questions about different topics relating to psychology. He's an extremely lenient grader and offers extra credit on each assignment. There's a paper and quiz at the end of the class which are quite simple aswell.
I'm not sure why this teacher has only 3 stars. In my opinion, he was great! The class was really simple each week, we just had questions to answer, and all the answers were in the online textbook. Professor Mellan responded to my questions immediately. There was a 1,000-word paper due, but it wasn't hard at all.
My experience was online so it may have been different, but I loved having him as a professor. His work was extremely manageable, and I could get the entire week done in one night. He gives hundreds if you just copy and paste the answers from the book and change the wording. He always was helpful and understanding when I emailed him.
i LOVEDD this professor, i passed with a 110%, he gave me extra credit on every single assignment. it's not hard to please him, every week you submit a word document answering 9-14 questions, that's it. the final assignment is APA style, 1k words about one of the topics he provides, i got a 98% on that final. such an amazing teacher.
great professor, he's my favorite so far, incredibly smart however his lectures do not align with the review test at the end of the semester, he explains the concepts as if he was having a conversation with friends but the test is entirely based on the textbook. overall a great professor to have, would def recommend and take any of his othercourses
