Very cool guy... likes to get very "emotional" during lectures, only because he's excited about history... and steam locomotives. If you hate history, he'll make you like it (at least for one second).

Great guy! REALLY knows his sh*t and is one of the few teachers who truely cares about his students and their grades. He'll hook you up if you go and talk to him about your test grades...cool guy

Freakin Hilarious Teacher, he can be intimidating, but dont worry, hes a nice guy
great teacher, very informative. he has a great humor and makes it interesting. i didn't even read the books and i got a B in his class. very easy, do well on essays and the exam. he'll tell you whats on it the day before!
Just show up, take notes, and dont buy the book! tests are take-home, just regurgitate his lectures back to him. bloody easy!
Looks like a very stand-off kind of professor. HOWEVER, he is very nice and funny and cares about his students A LOT. Don't be afraid to talk to him, very funny. His stories are very entertaining, his lectures are boring sometimes, but his class was very interesting. hopefully i can take his 100b class, attend class all the time!
great teacher, tests are not easy, but hes lenient with grading.
Dr. Myers is a great professor. He may be scary the first day of class, but he is actually a great person who wants you to pass his course. His term project is a bit difficult, and time consuming, but if you put an effort into doing the paper, you'll get a good grade. No need to buy the study guide, attend class to get an easy grade on essay tests.

his class is so interesting and easy take him if you want an A. i recommend student to have him super super funny class and can be very enjoyable
that is what most people think the good side of Myer. you will see when he assign you a load of homework. even though you did well in the class, but you can still easily fail of his hard essay. trust me i am an A student and have had experience Myer class, it's not as easy as you thought people! well then good luck
He came off as difficult the first day but I realized very early on that he cares so much about his students doing well. He always answers questions and his lectures, even though they could be boring, he has such energy for them that they go by quickly. His midterm and final are cake and his term paper is just extremly time consuming. He's great!
kind of a jerk. long boring lectures. gives out a ten page term paper. if you like to do a lot of work and do it on your own, then take him. other than that, i suggest that you dont take him!! hard class
He seems intimidating the 1st day of class but it does get better. U don't really need to read ur book, but coming to class & taking notes is a must. He curses a lot, but makes the lectures interesting. A couple of hw assignments (5 the whole semester), midterm (essay-but gave us the ?s ahead of time), final, & long paper. Not as bad as it seems.
i thought his lectures were really interesting. he's extremely animated. and i'm sure that he'll never read this because he wont give a**** what you think. seriously. he's a nice guy though. don't be intimidated. you'll be questioning him once in a while when he repeats the word whatever about 50 times in a row, thinking its funny
he tries to scare you the first day, but dont fall for it. the class is easy with few homework assignments and the finals are just an in class essay. he hates it if you dont show up though.
easy A. only buy the jewsbury book. 4 homework assignments, a midterm, final, attendance points, and a 10 pg. paper (if you do it, its an automatic A). you have to go to class, but his class is pretty hillarious. if youre a girl, take this class, if youre a boy, dont ever plan on leaving early.
very intresting teacher I loved his class. it maybe hard but you learn a lot of history. He cuss's a lot to keep it intresting in which he does but the 10 page research paper i did the night before which took 12 hours but I got an A+. overall hes a nice guy and is willing to help you at any time
Great teacher, occasional hw assignment. essay form midterm and final. loves what he teachs. lets you out early almost everytime. 10 page term paper isnt as bad as it seems. about everyone in the class got an A on the term paper. overall the class was enjoyable
Interesting guy, knows his history and loves to share it. Do all the homework (it's not bad, mostly BS he won't read). Follow EVERY guideline for the 10-pager and you'll get an A. "Whatever x 100000". Easiest grader in CSUF's history dept. TAKE HIM!
Good teacher overall, truly cares about the success of his students. hw assignment every 3 weeks or so, not too bad, just answering questions from book. 75% interesting, 25% snooze fest.
Enjoys the topic and makes it fun. Very straight forward as far as requirements and will pass you as long as you show up and show effort. There are a few homework assignments, a midterm, a final, and a 10-page term paper - all of which aren't too difficult. Just show up and take notes.
LOVED him! his paper isnt as hard as he makes it out to be-i doubt he even reads them. everyone got an A in my class. visit him during office hours-youll get an A for sure. his class is interesting, he gets so excited on the topic its funny. i loved him!! take him!
DR. MYERS IS THE GREATEST!! I don't like him just because he's easy. I hated history before I enrolled into his class. But because of him, I find history very interesting. He's very passionate about history, so his lectures are very interesting. He's a very caring man and I STRONGLY suggest taking him!
He loves what he teaches and he teaches it well. he's a pretty fun teacher. term paper was pretty overwhelming (10pgs) but i got a B. jewsbury hw isn't too bad. i barely used the books he listed to buy except for the jewsbury. not too bad, take him.
Make sure to follow the directions for the 10 page paper exactly and you'll get an A! You have to go to class because he makes you sign a paper everyday. He doesn't want you to memorize dates, names, or wars, he just really wants you to understand the important events and how they effect us today. There's homework, a few tests, and the paper.
Aww. Mr. Myers was the cutest 60 year old man ever. He makes jokes about himself..just don't sign in your name and walk out..he'll get hellla pissed. He loves steam engines and SERIOUS questions ..so at least act like you're into it. His essays are not hard..he gives you the questions beforehand so you have enough time to prepare. Study!peace.
Best history teacher I have had. Very easy class if you go to class and read the jewsbury reader(HW from this is like 4 pgs ). Do the homework, follow instructions for the essay, and be respectful.Do this then you should get a high B at the least. NO MEMORIZING LIKE OTHER HISTORY TEACHERS MAKE YOU, JUST THINK. in short best hist. professor CSUF has
he is so outspoken and his 10am lectures defintiely kept me awake. take notes in class b/c his midterm & final are essays but are so easy if you study b/c he gives the prompt before. the term paper is 10pgs & 10sources. its tough but he grades on how much you learned (accuracy isnt that important, dates, name misspelling). do jewsbury assigns!
Bit overly intense when he lectures but keeps you alert...talks fast so typing along on your laptop should come in handy...guidelines for the term paper was ridiculously specific and it may freak you out, but no worries...I doubt he reads them anyway...just expect comments like "very interesting! A" His laugh and giggles creeped me out the most...
Take him. He's a little time consuming, but easy. Just buy the Jewsberry book. I didn't use the other ones AT ALL. Do Jewsberry assignments always. Do extra credit if he offers it. Just follow deadlines and you'll be fine with 10 page paper. It's easy enough. Study for midterm and final. Go to class, just use those notes. Got an A without trying.
He is a great guy and really cares about his students. He loves the people who sit in the front and talk to him... you get far that way. Buy the Jewsbury book and thats it... do the HW and extra credit... easy A class.. his lectures are AMAZING!
Gives very intense lectures that are actually interesting most of the time. He talks oober fast so I suggest u bring a laptop to type with. He likes to talk about how hard he grades and makes you do essays that need to follow detailed outlines, but in the end I doubt he reads it thoroughly. No worries..do the work and u'll get an A.
He is the best history teacher I have ever had. I always sat up front with my friend, and she and I always enjoyed every one of his lectures. If you can take him, do, because he is passionate about what he does. He motivates you to learn, and work hard, and become a better student. He is a kind-hearted man who deeply cares about his students. :)
I took both Hist 110A and B, got an A in both classes =D
I took both Hist 110A and B, got an A in both classes =D
MYERS IS AWESOME! he tells fun stories that you will remember forever! show up to class... take notes on his lectures which are pretty fun and do a couple hw assignments. the tests are easy if you take the time to study!! he doesnt worry about names and dates... he just wants you to know how history affects us. TAKE HIS CLASS!!! and sit up front!!
I took him for both 110A and 110B. I thought exams were going to be the crappy M/C tests, but nope his midterm and final were both blue book...AND HE GAVE THE ESSAY QUESTION THE DAY BEFORE THE EXAM SO THAT YOU CAN PREPARE WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO WRITE ABOUT! Has a 3 pg paper which is easy, and a 10 pg term paper. Its the price paid for not much HW.
He was a funny old man who cussed a lot in his lectures. Class is pretty easy and he grades super easy specially if he likes you (just go to office hours and he'll like you!!) Grade is based off of 2 papers, and a midterm and final, and like 2 HW assignments... pretty easy, good professor overall.
Great professor who really cares for his students. Always willing to answer questions and provide help. Very clear on guidelines of class and assignments. Provides useful information, extremely interested in his subject. Teaches subject like a story so you will remember it. More concerned with concepts and not the specific dates/names. Great!
His class is extremly boring, usually the full 1hr and 15 mins of nothing but lecture. He cusses alot which is hilarious! If you want an easy A and can stand the boringness, take him! He doesn't even really read your midterm, tests or 10pg term paper, just makes sure basic guidlines are followed and almost every1 got an A. I recommend him.
Myers is awesome! Really funny, easy, and caring. He cusses a lot so if you can't handle that don't take him. Tests are all essays and he gives the question before the exam. Definitely take him unless you hate writing. I'm definitely going to take 110B from him!
He's cool and willing to help you. This class requires a lot of writing though. He's a good lecturer too, he won't put you to sleep because he's enthusiastic about history. Just be prepared for a lot of work!
i love this man. he loves his students so much that he almost cried on the last day of class. essay midterm and final are not bad if you study for them. never read. only did Jewsbury questions. super nice guy! term paper sucks but is worth it to do it JUST the way he likes it. i got an a on ever test, essay, and in the class. not hard to do.
I LOVE HIM! he was gone last semester, but he said he would be returning in FAll 09 to resume teaching. i took him for 110 A and cannot wait to take him for 110B! he is an amazing person and i got an A in the class! He loves his students and would do just about anything for them to succeed! TAKE HIM!
he's a very easy grader
Myers was an awesome teacher!! He is a really easy grader and is really funny. It's a fun class to be in. I definitely recommend!
He is a passionate history teacher. Attendence is not mandatory but he takes role. Super easy grader. No multiple choice test, all essays. Do the work and you will definately get an A.
Dr.Myers is such a passionate person. He truly cares about every single one of his students, just don't tick him off. Midterm and Final are in class essays, but he tells you what they are on before hand. 4 pg paper & 10 page paper. it is VERY POSSIBLE to get an A in the class. I did!
He can be funny (& loud) at times --beware, he cusses a lot... I don't find it too humorous, but it lightens up the mood. You can really tell he wants his students to learn and gain valuable knowledge though. Overall, an easy class. He gives the essay question to each exam. Don't stress too much over the 10pg paper; just follow instructions.
Great Professor...Fun class...Easy A:)
Dr. Myers is hands down one of the nicest professors i had. He really does care about you as a person. Very easy class, term paper is the only difficult part but if you get started early you will have no problems He actually reads the papers you hand in but grades fairly. He does not grade to hard he really wants you to analyze though Great teacher
Dr. Myers cares very much about his students and wants everyone to pass if possible. He even takes the time to sit in his office awaiting any student in need more than he is required to do so. His lectures are very clear and concise and he places emphasis on what he wants you to know. If you simply go and talk to him he is very considerate.
It is a easy class, but only if you try. If you are confused about someting, the best thing to do is visit his office hours and by the time you leave, everything seems crystal clear. He is straightforward in what he wants you to know, so theres no big surprises on tests or papers. The term paper is a bit challenging, but not impossible.
Dr. Myers is truly passionate about what he does, however; he is not the greatest teacher ever. He has 4 assignments that equal 85% the grade including a 10 page term paper with ridiculous amount of research needed. Easy class if you apply youreself but isnt worth it. No need to buy the book or even do the readings, just be a good note taker.
Emotional and cranky at times but overall does a great job of lecturing the lesson crystal clear. Even though lectures drag on, this class is easy and comprehensible.
He tries to seem like he's a really tough teacher but he's not. I hardly ever took notes and passed with an A. He is an easy grader, just follow his guidelines for the papers exactly how they are. Attendance is mandatory and sometimes his lectures get boring. I recommend not buying the books, I honestly didn't ever open them. Good professor though
I am so glad I had this professor. He totally turned me to History. I used to hate it but his passion for it made me see it in a new and interesting way. Take him if you get the chance, you will not regret it.
He is a great professor. His lectures are clear and straight-forward. The book is not needed. Although the study guide book is useful for writing analysis papers. He is too emotional and cranky at times, so try staying on his good side.
Myers is the only professor I have had so far that I have hated. His lectures are boring, and unless you are an auditory learner its hard to retain all the knowledge. He gives around 45 minutes to write a 5-6 page well analyzed paper for a midterm. His requirements for his term paper are too long. He made me want to change my major from history.
I loved this class, but at times his lectures became a bit lengthy. He has a real passion for what he teaches and wants the best for his students. He takes attendance and formats his exams around how many people attended.
Great teacher, has a lot of passion in his lectures which makes them interesting and enjoyable. Test may be hard but if you studied, the 5=6 pages you have to write are a breeze. The term paper is pretty long but he helps a lot with it. Overall great teacher!
He is a pretty good professor. There is one midterm and final, where he gives you the prompt the class before for a 4-5 page writeup in class, prompt based on day of lowest attendance. He also gives you a huge paper assignment where you print all of your sources you used. Just go to his office hours once or twice to check paper and you'll get an A.
Dr. Myers is a great professor! He is crystal clear on the subject & is very passionate about it. Everyday is a lecture; there is i think a 5-6 paper, midterm(bluebook), 10pg paper, and final (bluebook). I don't recommend this class if you're gonna wing it. But def. take if you're a good writer b/c everything is writing! Interesting lectures!
Myers is definitely one of the better history professors here at CSUF. I learned a lot from him and his class. Even though he lectures every day, the material is interesting enough to keep you from falling asleep. Plus he's got some pretty interesting stories from his travels around the world!
Great professor! Midterm and Final is an in class essay, but don't worry, he tells you ahead of time what you need to study for. 2 essay, one that's 5 pages and the other 10 pages. If you're going to work hard, take it. If you're gonna be lazy, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. Lectures are boring. I got A's on everything. I would def take this class again
TAKE HIM! As long as you follow all his guidelines on the papers, then you will get an A! Always take good notes because for the mid term and finals he chooses a random section.
He is a horrible teacher. His class only has 3 exam and 2 papers but it is a lot of work. For his final term research paper, you are expected to print out all of your sources of what part of it you used and stuff. Which is ridiculous!! He also takes forever to grade your exam and assignments and snaps at you if you ask him about it. And very boring
Myers seems like a hard teacher when you meet him. But his use of strong language and interest in this subject break down those barriers. I loved his class because his lectures were interesting. Just learn how to write notes quickly and sit in the front row cuz he doesnt do powerpoints! He has an interesting life! 10pg paper is easy cuz he helps.
makes a statement on the first day. fairly easy teacher. he is very passionate with his subject and teaching. very straightforward. highly recommended.
His class was fairly easy. He does not assign any homework. The only assignments are two papers. Then there is the midterm and final. However, as a teacher and person, he is extremely unlikeable. He has a negative attitude and assumes that his students don't care about history. He is very rude and his class is very dull.
Was passionate with the subject so if you don't care don't take him because he will hate you and you will hate him. Otherwise if you're willing and like the subject you will love his enthusiasm.
very boring class at 8am but prof is really passionate and knows the subject well. he cusses at times. midterm and final are both essays and he gives you the question ahead of time. do not buy textbook wont use it. as long as you format the 10 page term paper the way he likes it you will pass
Awesome teacher, yeah he curses at times and sometimes its way to much but doesn't take away from how he teaches. Don't really need the book. As long as you go to class and take notes you are going to do well on midterm and final.
At first he can come off as being nice but after a couple of weeks he can be really intimidating. In class he is very social but once you have a one on one conversation with him he can be really judgmental. There is no homework only 5 essays. 2 essays, 3pgs long. The term paper, 10pgs long. And 2 test essays. Nothing more. STAY ON TOP OF DEADLINES!
Many student like him but in my opinion, he wasn't a very good professor. He doesn't take questions well, and when I tried to talk to him during his office hours, he was very rude to me. He also assigns alot of work to do throughout the semester, including a 15 page paper.
I really enjoyed taking his class although their was times when his lecture would be very boring. He gives tons of writing assignments a midterm & a final. He first gives a bibliography, and essay of 5 pages on a certain topic and then a research paper of 15pgs with prove of the 10 Resources you utilize. Get him if your willing to write a lot.
The class seems simply with 2 short essays, a term paper, & the midterm & final. He is very passionate and knows his material. Only problem was it can be a little boring, and can be aggressive at times. Plus that 10 pg paper took some time. If your not into history and don't want to do much writing, then this class isn't for you.
Dr. Myers is adamant about certain things but is completely understanding. He may seem to come off a bit rough, but his passion for history is unmatched. It's quite obvious what he wants from you for his papers, so it is fairly easy to get a good grade in the class as long as you turn in the papers. He just asks for analysis. Highly recommend.
Loved this professor! I hate history because you have to memorize dates & information that doesn't matter. His way of teaching avoided this completely. He focused on how it impacts us and that's what all the papers are based on. Go to class because he bases the prompts for the midterm and final essay on the least attended class. Take him!
Best teacher I have ever had. Stay organized, pay attention in class, and pay attention to the material in the book he draws your attention to. You will be fine. Very passionate and really makes the subject interesting. Recommended to type notes, he talks fast during lectures. Very accessible as well.
He is so KNOWLEDGEABLE! He introduces historical materials you never knew & somehow makes history interesting. He truly cares & 3 writing assignments w/ 2 in class essay as exams. 1st writing is autobiography, then a historical event, last is a 10 pg essay you DO NOT WANT TO PROCRASTINATE.Easy grading, gives you the prompt&review for in class essay
Very good professor who's very passionate about history. Class has no homework, but consists of a written midterm, a 10 page term paper, 2 fairly easy essays, and a written final exam. He is a very fair grader. Don't procrastinate on the paper. I did mine the night before due and it took forever. Still got an A on it though.
He is one of my favorite professors at CSUF, I loved his class. He does not assign a lot of homework, just one essay, one ten page essay, and two essay exams. He is very helpful, and will help you with your essays if you come to his office hours.
really nice professor. yea, 10 pages is a lot, but he gives you the entire semester, and besides he doesn't read everything because he has a lot students. If you are struggling, visit hes office hours and he will take your grade in consideration.
Boring class. Bring your cellphones and laptops fully charged so you want die of boredom. He is arrogant, and loves to hear himself speak. He also has anger problems, hence he throws childish tantrums. It's an easy class overall but it was hard to stay awake.
He is extremely passionate about the subject, so much that he tends to get angry when other people aren't. He doesn't like when people disrespect him or his class, so don't leave early. He has one essay midterm and one final, to which he gives you the question in advance. Take VERY good notes during lecture (I recommend using laptop; he talks fast)
He is a very rude person. I never payed attention in class. Don't bother. He gives you the questions before the test so if you study you will get an A. You have to write a 10 page paper but he doesn't actually read it. Stupid class and stupid teacher but easy A.
Dr. Myers is one of the most passionate professors I have ever had in my entire college career. Honestly, there is so much I can say about him, but the best way to find out what he's like is to take this course for yourself. I highly recommend him as a history professor. It's one of those life experiences you don't want to miss in college.
He is a very passionate professor. You have to understand, that he is trying to get students to understand that history has shaped the world.I like how he does his lectures. He allows you to anaylsis on his mid term and the final.I recommend him
Wins for most passionate and knowledgeable. Lectures all the time, attendance is mandatory. 3 writing assignments + two tests. He's there for his students he will help you if you need it! He's an amazing professor, I wish he could of told my class all of his amazing stories.
Dr Myers has the greatest passion for an instructor I have ever witnessed. He truly lvoes the field of history and makes it his job to make sure his students learn what they need to. All of your grade is based on writing so if you're a bad writer stear clear, otherwise the class should be a breeze even if youre a mediocre writer. He's hillarious.
Great professor! Really compassionate in his teaching. If you don't like writing research papers I suggest you do not take this class, even though the papers are basically an easy A. Exams are essay formats.
I loved Dr. Myers' class. I have to admit, it gets boring sometimes sitting through lectures, but if you really listen, all the stuff that he spits out are pretty relevant and interesting. His essays are easy, but VERY tedious. If you don't like writing, I don't suggest his class. Other than that, it's a pretty interesting class.
Writing assignments aren't bad UNTIL you get the 10 page term paper! It's definitely a nightmare, but it easy nonetheless. There is only one midterm and one final (which he gives you the prompt beforehand). Do not leave his class early, he WILL call you out unless you get his permission prior. Easy A overall!
2 easy papers, 1 midterm and 1 final which are a joke, and 1 ten page essay which is tedious work but an easy A if you follow his format. Some lectures are boring and others extremely interesting. In lecture he's very nice, but during office hours he's somewhat self-centeredrude. Easy A overall.
TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU LIKE HISTORY! His lectures are always very intriguing! He is a really easy grader and doesn't assign much but 3 papers (2 are easy and the 3rd is a 10 pg research paper... but it can be done.) He only has a final and midterm, both are essay format. He wants you to really learn something about history. HE IS VERY PASSIONATE!
Take his class! Attendance is not mandatory, but he does take it randomly. I went to class 10 times the entire semester and got a B. He reviews the exact midterm/final essay question the class before the test! Barely used the book but you do need to buy it. He is sweet and passionate. Easy class and makes history pretty interesting.
He is my favorite teacher. Very opinionated and it shows, but he tries to be PC. His lectures are organized and straightforward. Assigns a ten page paper near the end of the semester, but double spaced. Very smart and experienced!
Passionate but has a short-temper. Be wary if you have class on 9/11. For other classes, he went over the final, but for my class? He "punished" us and refused to give information aside from the topic because "only" 85% students show up to class. Doesn't return papers/show us a grade (told us we won't get it back for some reason).
I really enjoyed his class and lectures. He is very passionate and also makes history very interesting. Only 3 paper, 1 midterm, and a finals for the whole semester, all FRQ. Only tedious part of the class is the 10 page third paper, which can be done if you follow directions. He gives you the topic the meeting before mid-term and finals to study.
Class was interesting to learn, if you're a person who does not like history, take this professor. Professor has a good sense of humor and is passionate about this subject. This class is not for students who don't show up for classes, that's his pet peeve (YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED). Two Essays, one of them is 10 pages of your choice in topic, & 2 exams
Dr. Myers is very passionate about History. There are only like 2 assignments which are very easy, a midterm, final, and a large term paper. He does not use ppt so you need to keep up with what he is saying when you are taking down notes. It does seem like alot but if you do exactly what he asks you should be fine and make sure you go to class.
Myers is one of the finest professors I've had. I don't take much interest in history, but he made it very interesting. Every lecture is like a long story with vivid details that make it easy to remember for the tests. Wants you to analyze what he has lectured on tests, but gives you test questions beforehand. A lot of papers, but worth it.
Although sometimes long, he gives some of the most interesting history lectures. Best professor I've had. Papers are long, but he gives you detailed instruction on exactly what he is looking for so, read all of the directions.
He could be a real ass sometimes but actually is very understanding. DONT EVER SHOW UP LATE (He'll literally stop class to call you out) Actually easy grader. I recommend him
Dr. Myers is one of the greatest professors I have had. He is very caring and is always available to meet with a student, a encourages his students to do so. His class does not have many elements that make up the grade, so one should be careful with each assignment. This is a great choice if you do not enjoy history.
Great class, good teacher! A lot of writing and reading but it is worth it. The only real complaint I have with Dr. Myers is he never gave any grades back until 3 weeks before the semester was over.
Absolutely the best lecture I've ever had. I would take this class again, if only to rehear the history as presented. This was the first class in which I wrote a paper over ten pages long (twice, 12 and 21 pages) but there was plenty of information to take from and I learned a few things about my workflow as well. Even with the papers, I recommend.
Attendance is free points. You don't really need the textbook as if you take good enough notes in class, that will be enough. Also, there are not many components of your final grade so take the few assignments there are, seriously. There is a 10 page term paper which is hard but possible. Lastly, don't be late unless you want to be called out.
Easy A if you do all the assignments which are not so much,he takes attendance randomly. One 5 page paper, midterm and final are essay but they are easy if you follow the instruction. One 10 page term paper, but he grades easy.
Great teacher.
Dr. Myers is an exceptional professor. He truly cares about the history he is teaching and you are able to tell through his lectures and power points. I would highly recommend taking his class.
Personally, Dr. Myers doesn't match his good ratings. He is very insensitive towards students not only to their faces, but he is also immature in the sense that he feels the need to stop lecturing and to make snide comments towards a student after they have exited class. His unprofessionalism makes focusing on lectures extremely difficult.
He's not too bad, but the papers are pretty brutal. The midterm only used information from about 4 lectures, but you can't be sure which lectures he will use. Every class is a lecture from start to finish, and he moves through the information pretty fast, so you kind of need a laptop. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE ON THE PAPERS. They will sneak up on you
This class wasn't too bad. It just the papers that are kind of hard, other than that it was a good experience. He rarely gives ppt's, it's mostly just him talking and us having to write down what he says. How he grades isn't very clear, but overall, I still did well in the class. It does get boring, so don't take it in the morning!
This course is 100% based on lectures. He sits in front of the class and just talks. He has a couple of powerpoints throughout the course. A LOT of students did not show up to class most of the semester, but if you give it a chance, the lectures are actually interesting. 3 essays, the last one is 50% of your grade. He is also very funny! :)
If you show up and take detailed notes on his lectures (which he just talks, there is no slides or textbook use in class), you will pass. Just put some effort in to understand the notes, and be ready to write!
I found Dr. Myers to be one of the best professors Ive had so far at CSUF. It wasnt rare for there to be an applause once he finished his lectures because he knew how to end them just right, leaving students something to think about. His class almost felt like it was from a movie because I had never been in a presence of a teacher so engaging.
Lectures are just written notes that are 10k+ words long weekly. Two papers, and a midterm and final which are essay questions. Did not do zoom lectures. Grades papers hard. Easy to not do anything and just research the papers if you are not wanting to learn.
No zoom meetings so you could be flexible with your schedule. Documents of readings per week that sometimes included a question that you'd email the answer to him. 3 total essays and that was about it. Good class.
Took this class during virtual learning, and it was pretty good. The class was asynchronous so there werent any zoom meetings. He posts weekly lectures and chapters from a history e-book, its a lot but the material is pretty cool. I would suggest going to his office hours for help on the papers or just to get to know him! Be prepared to write.
Took him during COVID, so it was fully online. He is not very familiar with how technology works and is not good at communicating. Very boring class. You do all the learning by yourself at your own pace, he just posts an excessive amount of readings that you will eventually write essays on. Very disorganized and all over the place.
I took this class online and it was average. He posted long written lectures every week which we had to write 4 papers on. Doesn't post grades until the end which is a bummer. You have to go to his office hours to find out what grades you got so far in the class. Would still recommend this professor because he is always happy to help his students.
I took this class virtually and it was entirely self study. You are only graded on four papers and weekly participation. He seemed to struggle with technology so it was difficult to contact him however during the 3 zoom meeting he held, he was a very sweet and sincere man. We dont know grades until on our transcript but he also offers extra credit.
Every week we're assigned 200pgs+ of reading. There's no possible way to get this done, I dont have any classes expecting this much reading a week. The class is broken into 3or4 papers Chicago style 1.5 line spacing. It feels like so much information thrown at you its hard to retain anything. Hes a nice guy but not good at making work reasonable.
This professor changes the requirements of a 10 page paper about A WEEK BEFORE THE PAPER IS DUE, well after a good amount of students have already been in the middle of working on their papers. He changes it from 1.5 spacing, an already unorthodox choice, to 1.15 just like that, as if no one is going to say anything about it.
Boring lectures, rude, and immature. Papers are way too long. Honestly avoid this professor at all costs. Not to mention his need to spread pro-capitalist anti-union propaganda in his classes. Would not mind the class if the papers were shorter. (9-11 pages long...)
Put aside the political nonsense in the other reviews. Outside of that, he tries to make lectures fun, but it gets boring don't take in the morning. Takes attendance. Long papers with minimal help, 10 pages, NOT worth for a gen ed lvl 100 class. It is an insane requirement and a useless paper. All midterm/final involves essay questions.
Assigns reading that can be up to 400pgs long and expects us to keep up with these readings. On top of this many of his lectures have no reference material and you are expected to retain information with no visuals. Papers are 10 pages long and midterm/final are also essays. Changes requirements for exams/papers on a dime and at the last minute.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. NOT WORTH IT FOR A GENERAL EDUCATION CLASS. EVERY ESSAY IS 10 PAGES MINIMUM 1.5 SPACING WITH 10 SOURCES RECORDED. EVERYONE DREADS THIS CLASS. WE STARTED WITH 100 STUDENTS ON DAY 1 AND NOW THERES ONLY 24 OF US LEFT. THE MIDTERM ARE ALSO ESSAY QUESTIONS WITH 750 WORD RESPONSES TO EACH QUESTION.
Even though this is a GE class, I did not expect to write 10 page essays. This was honestly the most time consuming class and such a waste of time. You would prob be better off in another history class. He is also a hard headed man who doesn't really listen to his student's opinions/suggestions. Would not recommend!!
He's not afraid to voice his opinion. He tells you to read a ton but I never have and I have an A. Your grade is determined by 2 ten-page essays, a 2-page midterm and final, and attendance. Lectures r boring if you're not interested in history. The class is going to be the worst thing ever if you procrastinate the papers. Seems like he grades easy.
If you like to write, take this class. He does his best to keep his students engaged, just don't be lazy and this class is an easy A.
Professor Myers is by far one of my favorite professors. He voices his opinion, as he should, as everyone else does. He is so helpful and will assist you with anything you need. The papers in this class were annoying because there were two ten-page papers, a midterm (5 pages), and a final (2.5 pages). He grades easily and is an awesome teacher!
I took Dr. Myers for HIST170B spring 21 and he was incredible. He does lecture most of the time but he tries to keep it engaging. There were multiple papers but they are easy if you follow the prompts. He is a very fair grader and had nothing but positive feedback. I highly recommend taking one of his classes.
BEWARE: This prof has a very heavy workload, although the work was heavy and made me miserable, it was a relief that hes a very easy grader. Most of my papers were bad and he still gave me A's on them, just follow the prompt. Also beware if you can't stand conservatives (i cant) don't take him. He constantly tried to push his views and was biased.
I would take him again he is heavy on lectures and you have to keep up with what he is saying but for the most part there is never any homework and only 2 essays 1 midterm and the final and he gives u the questions for the tests so you just have to study. he's super funny and cool and always says "god bless u all" at the end of his lectures.
Dr. Myers is a solid choice to have as a History Professor. He only grades on 5 things, 2 research papers, your midterm, final, in which he gives you the question, and attendance. The research paper may seem tedious, but as long you follow the instructions he gives you and your conclusion makes logical sense to the prompt, you will pass the papers.
Overall, your only grade is the research papers and the attendance he takes once a blue moon at random. There are 3 essay papers 3 pages long, and then for the final its a 8 page essay with a topic you pick. He has cool stories too about his life, reminds me of FDR the president.
It's clear that professor Myers is very passionate about what he teaches & he wants to share his knowledge with his students. Dr. Myers assigns only about 3 things throughout the semester (all papers) but they aren't very difficult. For your midterm, he tells you the prompt beforehand so that you're able to study & come prepared the day of the test
Overall a good and caring professor, although his lectures can get a little boring, especially since half of them don't have any slideshows, they're just him reading a paper. In total, he graded off of 2 papers, 1 midterm essay, attendance and that was it.
He's really passionate about what he teaches, 99% lectures, a really chill grader. The premise of papers is "It doesn't matter if it's right, but if you can convince me it is you'll pass." The only thing you "need" to buy is a book that'll help you with the Chicago Format, it's like $10. All other readings he provides. Only 4-6 things are graded.
The lectures can get a little boring. Overall, he gives you a lot of information in his lectures that you can use to write your papers. There will be two papers and one short essay midterm and final that determines your grade for the class. He has quite a few strong opinions on politics and really dislikes when people talk during his lecture.
Dr.Myers was a fantastic professor, and I would gladly take his class again. You have 4 total assignments: Two 5 page research papers, a midterm, and a final. Yes you can skip class, but he has randomized sign in sheets, and you should be there in case he covers mid term or final content. Unfortunately, he doesn't post much online, so go to class.
Professor Myers is amazing! His class was very easy as long as you show up and take notes. You have 2 writing assignments, mid-term and final. He assigns one of the writing assignments and you choose the other. He gives you the questions he will ask for the mid term and final. He shows so many great pictures about his travels. He is very helpful!
Very blunt teacher who makes his expectations known in the first class. Hilarious though because he likes to joke with the class. Beware the attendance sheet he passes around every other week (no one ever knows when). There are two (difficult) 8-page research papers. Midterm is an in-class essay which is a breeze if you take good notes.
Professor Myers is one of those professors that you notice are passionate about what they teach right away. He cares and has a lot to share about what he teaches, including many of his own stories. He only assigns 4 things the whole semester, two lengthy papers and two exams. The papers are pretty long, 8 pages minimum, but he gives you enough time
Very funny professor. Two 8 page papers and 2 essay exams, super simple. He is super passionate about what he teaches.
Loved Dr. Myers! Instead of using a textbook, he uses his own set of texts. Attendance is worth about 20% and is randomly taken so be careful. Only assignments are a 8-page paper, a midterm, another 8-page paper (that you will get to chose the topic of!) and a final. Loved his lectures. Overall a great professor!
Dr. Myers is very enthusiastic about his subject. He's for the most part pretty good about knowing why people are there, but isn't 100% of the time. Random chance of sign in sheet worth a sizable chunk of your grade, and the rest is two writing assignments, a midterm, and the final. Don't do what I did and wait until the night before on the writing
This class wasn't too bad, I would take it again but the only downside is that his essay page requirements are 8 pages long but it is the only assignment throughout the whole course besides the time essays. I would recommend looking at the readings before class so you know what the lecture of the day has to do with.
Attendance was random & worth 20% of grade. There were 2 writing assignments (8 pgs. full text Chicago). Midterm & Final were 2 prompts (min. 500 words). Lecture style was more auditory. The readings are provided but SUPER long. The professor was very passionate about this course and willing to help. The learning/course style was not for me.
Professor Myers is a great professor. Very lecture heavy and used slideshows. He assigns many readings that are extremely long and somewhat important to the papers and tests. In total there are two 8 page papers, one midterm test, and one final. While the 8 page seems long and it is, work on it through out a week and it is very manageable todo.
Dr. Myers is such a sweet guy, at first I was a little intimidated by him but he really does care for his students and for the class subject. It is really lecture heavy and he only grades 4 assignments 2 papers and the midterm and final. It is a lot of writing but he grades easily. I would recommend this class
He's a very kind and passionate professor. Can be really intimidating at first but he just has his own sense of humor. His lectures are quite long, but if you take good notes you would be okay. From experience, his exams usually highlights certain topics mentioned in lectures, so it's better to show up for every class and be prepared.
I really enjoyed Professor Myers. He was extremely well versed in the subject (for 170B) and always came to class prepared. He fluctuates in using slides or just lecturing to the class off of his notes, however if you just show up, it can really raise your grade. He does not have any quizzes, just two long 8-page papers but gives you a lot of time.
Professor Myers has a unique teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class is very rewarding. Attendance is mandatory and worth 20%, so be sure to go to every lecture. I found Unstuck study and the provided readings super helpful for preparing for the midterm and final.
Friendly professor. Doesn't ask students questions. Doesn't really use slides, mainly reads off a paper. Random attendance (beware). No textbook, provided readings. Boring class but easy to pass. Willing to help, very passionate about the class.
Honestly a great professor. He's extremely dedicated to his work and very sweet. Made everything easy to understand. 2 assignments which were 8 page papers Chicago style, easy if started on time. Midterm and Final are writing in class. Not too hard on grading tbh.
Dr.Myers was an amazing professor. He was very caring and understanding of his students, and he made the course very interesting.
He is a good professor. Really passionate about history, gets offended if you even yawn during his lectures. He spends the entire time talking. No busy work just make sure you do the readings & don't procrastinate on the papers. Great class for history lovers, not so great if you have a short attention span and don't care too much about US history.
Dr. Myers is an amazing professor who has very interesting lectures and cares for his students. Grade is determined by 2 large midterm papers, 2 written exams, and attendance. Although the readings for this course are optional, they are highly recommended if you want the research for the papers to be easier. Lots of writing!
I do not understand the high praise…he didn't like how I wrote his essays and would give me low grades on them. Whatever.
Grade based on 2 papers, 8 & 10 page. As well as 2 timed writes and some random attendance points. Horrible for those that can't stand history or lectures.
Entire grade is passed on 2 papers 8 & 10 pages long, Chicago Style, as well as two timed writes. Very old school lecturer, rarely used PowerPoints and mostly speaks. Randomly takes attendance. He has a good sense of humor, and doesn't grade heavily, but he won't take any excuses for late papers.
A very old-school teacher, he lectures heavily as he talks about his own experiences. Two midterm research papers, 8 pages long, in Chicago style. Two different essay questions "exams" were handwritten in class, but he gives you the topic beforehand, so you know what to write about. Didn't really read the readings he provided; it was an easy class.
Boys and girls of history land (ifykyk)I took his 8:30 class, and you'll love it if you really like history! He's lecture-heavy but super engaging with his stories and connections. He's clearly passionate. The class is mostly lectures two 8-page essays, and a midterm that's a timed write, he gives you the prompt ahead of time so you can prepare!
pretty chill. 2 papers, 8 pages long. timed midterm. talks a lot and usually reads off some papers and SOMETIMES powerpoints. talks fast and is hard to keep up when taking notes. he just doesnt stop. he is nice tho. just wasnt a right fit for me. he is very passionate about history and you can tell he likes what he does.
great guy he is passionate about what he does, pretty funny and chill, based off two 8 page papers, midterm and paper, only bad thing in my opinion is he doesn't input grades into canvas so you have to email him about your grade, lecture heavy and attendance isn't mandatory but says he will do a pop quiz if people dont show but never has
I enjoyed taking Dr. Myers' class. The only stressful part was the two 8-page essays he assigned. He gives the prompt for the midterm and final ahead of time so you know what to study! He does lecture all of class and sometimes takes attendance randomly which will be 20% of your grade. but is very caring, funny and passionate about what he does.
