Great/funny guy. Would go to his classes even if I wasn't signed up for them.
awesome professor. funny, clear and helpful. he rocks!
Great teacher... never boring, always simplifies things!
A very good and funny professor. I hope I have more of his classes!!!!
very helpful and clear
My favorite class! He makes it so interesting that I would go just to listen to him even if I didn't have the class.
BILL NEWMAN RULES!!
very good!!!!
Really excellent professor. If you show up and pay attention, you will pass.
He's funny and he's hot. The hardest part of the class was not letting the hot part distract me!
Great teacher. Very clear and to the point. Class was interesting and easy as long as you went to class.
I wish he wasn't married. He is brilliant, interesting and hot. I will never miss a class he is teaching.
great teacher, explains thing in detail with clarity
He's Brillant, and he's soooo handsome! He's an awesome teacher! Never a dull moment, u have to go to class though, one of the best teachers i've had. Class is enjoyable and you learn TONS, makes things interesting.. I LOVE THIS GUY
Very interesting class. I think I'm in love. He recommended taking his wife's class next semester :o(... so I am. it should be nice seeing the 'other woman!'. But in all actuality- great class, great professor, would recommend to anyone.
The best class I've had at VCU. I'm a business major, but I enjoyed this class so much I almost changed majors. Brilliant professor, never a dull moment and no surprises on tests.
great class. as long as you show up and take notes, you'll do fine. very good at explaining things.
Dr. Newmann is brilliant. He has a wealth of knowledge and I feel jipped only getting a semester out of him before graduation. His knowledge about international relations and us foreign policy are amazing. He is well above VCU standards and they are lucky to have him.
You will learn and it is fun. Best prof I've ever had. Knows his stuff and still has a personality. Wants to share his knowledge. Great professor and VCU MUST keep him!
What an awesome teacher. Best teacher I have ever had to be honest. His wealth of knowledge about politics is absolutely incredible. I can't wait to take even more classes from him.
Foreign Policy, very good lecture- very hard tests. Grades on knowing the information exactly- and their is a wealth of information you must be prepared to know before taking the test.
Great story teller. I was not interested in International Relations, but he made it very interesting.
He's the reason I changed my major to poli-sci. The best professor ever.
A schizophrenic course. Prof was extremely personable & helpful. But course was terrible if you take academics seriously. Pedantic, almost arbitrary grading on exams. Looked for ways to give you extra points, for example, but then took off five because you forgot to use some magic word. Be careful.
Re-energized my fun and love or politics, hands down the teacher that made college fun for me, and made me want to go much further with this level of political thinking. Going further with his courses and adding on his Homeland Security Majorwhich I recommend to every one.

Newmann is one of the top 5 profs here. Loved him, loved the class, great experience!
One of the best damn professors VCU has for poli sci, he is so exciting and loves what he does. I hate his grading scale though it is really hard no matter how hard you work
Took his intro to foreign policy b/c it fulfilled a requirement for my psych major. Loved it so much I changed majors as a junior - took his Presidents class, his comparative foreign policy class, Topics course in terrorism. Graduated almost 2 years ago and I still kepp in touch with him!
One of the best professors at VCU, I didn't even have to read the book and got an A in his class.
awesome
Good class. Not as good as Asian Politics though. As for grading, never understood how he did it. But, I could accurately predict my grade(to within 1 point) based on how much I studied. So, there is method to the madness. Getting an A is easy if you can write decently. Go to class.
Lets face it, Newmann is tough. You can learn a lot from him, but he can be a GPA killer. He's friendly and will help you as an advisor- but his brain operates like a swiss watch and if you don't get insynch fast with his way of writing- you are doomed. Take his class but bring your A game.
Dude knows his****. Hard, but awesome class. USE MLA FORMAT!!!!! CANNOT STRESS THAT ENOUGH!
I had him for the online intl political economy class during summer. There are six books to read, and seven papers to write (including the rewrite). He's an awesome guy and returns papers before the next one is due with lots of feedback. He's great with email too. He might tear apart the first paper apart, but definately worth it. You'll learn a lo
His terrorism sourse is one of the most interesting classes i have ever taken. He has an extreme amount of info to throw out at you and all of it is interesting and useful. He tests almost directly from his lectures. If you take good notes you can get an A or B easily. The 10 page paper seemed difficult then you found that it was hard not to wr
great professor. knowledgeable. go to class because his notes will not help. exams are all written which come mostly from the lectures. grades papers like an eng 200 teacher so come correct on that. jokes alot funny and not funny. i dont think theres another professor that can teach terrorism like him. great guy.
Very good instructor. He knows more about Political Science and Homeland Security then anyone I have had. Very helpful with any questions you have. The papers and exams are not easy, but you will learn more in his class then most other classes combined.
Very smart guy. Instead of giving notes in class, you have to listen to a bunch of stories and retain what you can in order to have study material for the exams. His tests are ridiculously hard. He is extrememly critical on grading papers. Overall, a good guy, however I will never take another class he is teaching; nor would I recommend him.
Dr.Newmann is fantastic. I really enjoyed being in his class. Wouldn't mind taking another class with him in the future. His exams are not all that hard. However, he is a hard grader on papers. His class is interesting and full of stories. Take good notes. Really don't have to read the assigned readings. He is cool, funny, and down to earth.
Awesome lecturer!
One of the smartest men I've met in my life. He knows sooo much about pretty much everything related to political science. Very detailed lectures. Take good notes, dont skip class and you will be fine. Tests are relatively hard. Dont really need to read the book to pass. Recommend him ONLY if you're really interested in poli sci.
cool guy. i loved the class; however, he is not easy at all. there is no extra credit or anything. the grade you get is the grade you earned. DONT skip any classes or you wont pass. the book wasnt used at all. all you need to do is come to class and listen, take notes, and go to study sessions. i would recommend him only if PoliSci is your major!
Some of my electives have been decided just by the fact that this man teaches the class. He is an E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T professor. If you don't get something, you'll get it if you ask him. Very open, conversational, funny. MAkes you wish classes were longer than just a semester
Dr. Newmann's POLI 105 class is HARD. Only 2 tests the entire semester. One map quiz and the final; those are all the grades you get. Interesting lectures. DON'T SKIP CLASS. He tells you exactly what's going to be on the test. Book isn't used at all. Overall, a great professor if you're major is Poli Sci.
he is a great prof. he loves to teach, and the fact that he is beautiful makes class even more fun.
brilliant, fantastic professor. take good notes in class, that's pretty much all you need for the test. take this class!
Dr. Newmann is a fantastic professor, and you will learn a lot if you just go to class and pay attention. Read the books! That is what will get you an A over the mass of Bs. There are 2 books other than the textbook, but they are interesting in their own right if you want to get a better feel for current events. Take his class!
Excellent professor. Very intelligent and hard working.
interesting. kinda funny. go to class. go to SI sessions! at least the 1 before the exam. do review and you will definitely do good on the test. map quiz is an easy A
Probably the best professor I had last semester. He really holds your attention for the entire class period. He's one of the best VCU has to offer in my opinion. As for work load, it's necessary to read but it definetly makes teh class easier if you do.
He is an excellent prof. He gives many different classes, and is very knowledgeable. He is good at expaining tough theory and makes hard stuff very easy to understand. Besides, he is kind to every his student.
You have to go to class! Though attendance isn't required, you wont know the info if you don't go to class. Reading is also a must! The professor was great and very interested in the topic but I found his test to be extremely hard. The SI sessions were a MUST for me to get an ok/good grade on his test. Awesome professor! I def recommend him.
Newmann is def a prof I'd take again. Made the class interesting. He expects a lot of students, but you should be willing to be the work into it. If you have problems, you need to sit down with him and he is extremely helpful. 2 Tests were Short answer ID and Essay. 10 pg research paper and 5 minute presentation required also short map quiz.
Great professor. The test are pretty easy. A lot of essay and short answer. You basically make your own exam b/c he gives you a lot different topics to write about. Textbooks are good to read if you have the time, but he doesn't heavily rely on them when making the exam. One 7-8 page paper plus power point for group project. "DO IT" Big part of grad
newmann is really fun and makes his class fun and gives really good stories!
Great teacher--really engaging, but a challenging course. Attendance is sooo important, the exams are 80% lecture and 20% book/readings. We had two books (not counting the text) that accompanied the course, reading these is imperative to do well on the exams. Newmann is great--he makes the material really interesting and he is very accessible.
Makes lectures interesting! He's funny and speaks clearly. Exams are a little tough because most of the material comes from the lectures. Take good notes and dont miss any of the lectures!
I love this teacher. He isreally funny. Come to classand take notes and your golden. He even posts power points online
Great Professor! highly recommended! Go to class to do well and take notes... power points on bb don't cover everything in his lectures.
Dr. Newmann is absolutely amazing. One of the best (if not THE best) professor I've ever had at VCU. The best thing about him is that he makes his lectures really interesting (I looked forward to class). He's also extremely straightforward when it comes to knowing how to prep for exams. You can really tell he's working for our success as students.
Great class. Easy to understand. I highly recommend taking this class. If you have questions he is happy to help. USE THE STUDY GUIDE! Hardly cracked a book but went to every lecture. listen and take notes. Good grades await.
good teacher, interesting subject.. HARD exams. the only grades in class are one quiz and three exams.. the study guides help but they can't replace actually going to class; his lectures offer a lot of info. and actually READ the books he assigns. recommeneded, but not if you want a really easy gen. ed. you have to work hard for your grade.
Interesting professor that makes class interesting. Taught me more about US politics in one semester than I ever knew. Encouraged thoughts and questions during classes. Newmann's ONLY pitfall is that he is a pretty tough grader on papers or essays.
This class is great. Newman knows a lot about the subject and keeps the atmosphere very light which is always helpful. Exams were not bad if you studied, I never read the text. They came directly from lecture. HIGHLY reccommend
Love Dr. Newmann! He's one of the best professor's VCU has--tho that might not be saying a lot... Ok, he's one of the best in the Wilder School that's for sure! Newmann is a little hard when it comes to grading, but follow his instructions to the "T" and u'll be fine. If nothing else, u'll def. learn A LOT in any of his classes!
Everyone should take this class. He is a great lecturer, not politically leaned in any direction, great for learning whats going on the world. Easy tests. Do it.
Quite possibly the best polisci instructor vcu has I thought saladino was the best but newmann jacks him up!
I have taken 4 classes with Newmann. He is my favorite Professor at VCU. He is clear, extremely intelligent, and does not teach with bias like other Professors. The readings are interesting but not vital. Make sure to go to class and take good notes. He is always there to help you out in any way he can. TAKE HIS CLASSES!
VERY passionate about what he teaches. The exams are a little difficult, if you come to class and do all the readings (theres a lot) you will be fine though. One paper (easy to get an A on it). Class required 4 books, I bought them all online and saved lots of $$.
This was for Terrorism. Overall a good professor, nice man, engaging lectures, likes the topic, is clear. Sometimes his tangents and side-lectures are bias (especially on Israel, he is Jewish) and that gets annoying. I did well on most assignments, though he will not hesitate to give you a bad grade with a smile on his face.
awesomeeee !
I've taken Newmann for Poli 105/308/363/367 He is amazing. You will leave each class knowing something new and wanting to tell someone you know. He's a great teacher. He doesn't take attendance but you need to go, you should read too. There are papers, but if you do the work and study for exams(He gives Study Guides!!) You'll get an A
His class is enjoyable. He jokes around and keeps the mood light, which helps pass the time through some of the more dull parts of the course. He assigns a decent ammount of reading, which he draws from for the tests. He's a nice guy and worth taking for a gen ed.
If you are an International Studies or Political Science major his classes should be mandatory for you. He is a well spoken professor, and even answers questions in 200 kid classes. Completely worth your while to take. class not mandatory but highly encouraged.
AMAZING PROFESSOR. DO NOT MISS CLASS OR YOU WILL NOT DO WELL ON EXAM! from all my friends that took poli 105 with other professors at the same time, he was the best explainer. He really knows his stuff. You have to read his books to nail an A on the exams for sure. He is HARD!
His power points are short. He knows his stuff very well but he's teaching strategy is straight talk. If you like 3 test lectures take him.
He is a great teacher and very knowledgeable and enthusiastic on what he is talking about. You should really read the books he assigned as you go along instead of last minute. The SI sessions really help. Also flash cards are a good study strategy for the test. Go to class it is really important.
I believe he is the best that VCU offers, if you attend his lectures and follow his guidelines to the letter, you will get an A, he cares a lot about students and I guarantee you will learn a lot, if you want to play...go to McDonald ....I highly recommend him...
The test were mainly based off his lectures and the readings that were from the two books he recommended. Him being nice looking help keep interest. He went off topic alot but only because there were two students that insisted on asking questions that were irrelevant. He recommends that you write down what he says versus the powerpoints
Very nice, but I'll never take another class with him again. Took 50 points off a paper for not having the citations where he wanted. Got a B in the class, but still.
Looks like Jon Stewart mixed with Bill Maher. Great humor to go along with the look. Could not have asked for a better teacher. I need to get him again.
Very enthusiastic professor who loves his job and likes to help students out. Responds to emails pretty quickly. BUT if you don't do the readings, then you're screwed for this lecture.I could have gotten an
HE IS BY FAR THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. I LOVE HIM. HE IS SO FUNNY, HIS LECTURES ARE GREAT, NOT BORING WHAT SO EVER. HE IS ALWAYS CRACKING JOKES ABOUT THE COURSE MATERIAL THAT IT MAKES YOU REMEMBER WHAT YOU LEARNED FAR AFTER THE CLASS IS OVER. YOU WILL NOT REGRET TAKING THIS CLASS. HE IS EXCELLENT. NOTHING BAD CAN BE SAID ABOUT HIM/CLASS.
Had him for international relations. The class was easy enough if you actually show up to class and take notes. He posts reviews of upcoming tests as well, which is extremely helpful.
Fantastic professor. His classes are very insightful and a joy to be a part of. If you miss class you will suffer because the terms on the test are specific things he mentioned in class. Grade consisted of two exams, a map quiz, an executive summary and a presentation on the summary. If you need to take Terrorism, take it with Newmann!
My favorite class I have ever taken. It isn't easy, you have to work hard on the paper and study hard for the exams, but it is a joy to do. He always answers e-mails and if you want, you can turn your paper in early and he will tell you what you need to work on. The material is incredibly interesting. I am taking him for two more classes next sem!
After spending 2 semesters with this guy I'm convinced he's an absolute genius. The man knows his stuff in and out, is able to explain it very clearly, and all class policies are very reasonable. The worst thing about him is that he doesn't teach more classes.
I'm not sure what everyone else on here is talking about. He is a very hard and unfair grader. You will be docked points for the littlest things on the test essays and paper. Even if you know the material if you don't recite it back how he would like you won't get a good grade. Take with another professor if possible.
A GOD AMONGST MEN. I have taken three classes with this guy and I have enjoyed everyday. He's not hard if you follow his directions EXACTLY. If he asks for 10 sources on the paper don't give him 8 or 9 or 7 and wonder why you got a C. Give him 10 like he asked for. You don't have to read the books...but they're awesome. Take his class.
He's AMAZING. I wish I had enough time to take every single one of his classes. He's a tough grader but don't expect a hand out from him. If you don't know it you won't get an A. There is no BS'ing with this guy. He's always willing to help you if you don't understand something. His was the only class I was excited to go to, all semester.
Map Quiz, Midterm, Paper, and Final exam are your four only grades. You must attend the class and do the readings or you will miss too much information. He has high standards for the paper, so don't wait until the last minute. Always enjoy Newman and take his classes whenever I can.
Dr. Newmann is one of the top professors at VCU. This is my 5th course that I have taken with him. he is very fair. I always enjoy his classes and I always truly learn. He is very concerned about his student and he is extremly fair. All of his classes get filled pretty quickly, he is in high demand & he teaches Homeland Security, political science
Very interesting class! There was a map quiz, three exams (one on each country), and one paper. The class was excellent, just like every other class I have taken with Newmann. If you are interested in Asia at all take this class!
One of my favorite classes ever, without a doubt. The assignments are a map quiz, two exams, and a paper. For the paper, he allows you to turn in a rough draft, and you must, as his comments are a huge help. This was my fourth class with him, and I am taking my fifth next semester! If you need an upper level political science, take this one.
THIS MAN IS PERFECT. Take this class. Take all of his classes. Map quiz, executive summary, presentation, two essay exams. He gives detailed study guides and extremely detailed assignment instructions - if you follow them, you will get an A...don't try to BS him. He's great, I recommend him to EVERYONE.
If you have to take POLI105, TAKE NEWMANN. I was pretty nervous to take this class, but Newmann is clear on what he wants. There is 1 map quiz which he gives all the countries you have to know, and then 3 exams. If you study his review guides, the exams are an easy A. The class is an easy A if you go to class, take notes, and study. He is awesome!
Great teacher, and the class was interesting. Just be careful with the tests - you'll only get three along with a map quiz, so be sure to study beforehand.
Dr. Newmann is a god among men
He's an incredibly cool dude. I wish I could have him again. He's just sooooo chill. I didn't use the textbook ONE TIME and I got an A. Just listen in class and take notes on what he says, allow him to explain before you copy the power-point so you can understand. You get three exams total and a map quiz! Just make sure you understand the concepts
Professor Newmann is incredibly knowledgeable and very down to earth. He breaks everything down in simpler terms but will also tell you the technical definition of everything. One of if not my absolute favorite professor! Highly recommend him!
I have taken classes with Professor Newmann for two semesters now. He is always helpful and attending lectures is mandatory but informative! I've never left a class without learning something new. If you have the chance to enroll in his class, do it!
I fell behind in my lectures (I am a british student), so I did a quick search and came across Dr Newmann's page. Very helpful and brought be up to speed. I actually learnt more from his online class than I did in my other face to face lectures I have with other professors! His writing is clear, with a hint of humour making it very easy to follow
Took 2 classes with Newmann. Not only is he hella smart but he's also hella dreamy which make his lectures very interesting. Most classes consist of a map quiz, 2 exams, and paper (terrorism: short paper and presentation, foreign policy: long paper no presentation) he's a tough grader but if you go to class and take notes you'll pass just fine
If you want an easier and interesting upper-level poli class take Newmann. Two tests and a research paper, not too hard of a grader. Show up, take notes, skim the readings and you'll pass the tests. Paper takes more work, but he lets you turn in a rough draft and tells you what needs revision. Gives great, informative answers to in class questions.
Newmann is my favorite professor. He is so friendly and caring. He is bae-goals. He has repeatedly changed my life and I am honored to have taken him. He is very bright and provides amazing feedback for your papers. He really goes to bat for his students and is the most supportive professor I've ever had.
Newmann is an actual genius. Take all of his classes and be enlightened.
I took Dr. Newmann for 3 classes and wish I could take more. While he actually is one of the tougher POLI VCU teachers, his classes are very interesting, insightful, and he's just an all-around nice guy. Considering the bizarre political environment we're currently in and the angle he views it through, I recommend his clssses for credit or not.
Professor Newmann is great! His sense of humor makes the lectures tolerable and he is understanding as well. There's a map quiz, three exams, and a citation assignment (easy A). Just make sure to actually study and show up to most of the lectures. I plan on taking him again for another course.
Newmann is a great professor! I've taken him for 3 classes and would have taken more with him if I could have. He's one of the best professors in the Political Science department. He grades clearly and fairly and is always willing to help out students.
Professor Newmann is a moderately good professor, the assignments won't break your back ;however, the grading criteria is all over the place and it is difficult to get an A. Map Quiz, Two Tests, A group Presentation, and a 2 Page paper! Not hard material but impossible to get an A.
Professor Newmann is my favorite poli sci professor I have had at VCU. He is extremely smart and poignant. If you go to the lectures and take thorough notes, you'll do well. He doesn't use blackboard but all the exams and papers are thoroughly explained. Follow his instructions and you'll get a good grade & make sure you're good at citing sources.
Prof. Newmann is really nice and caring! He really wants you to succeed, however, he doesnt really tell you how. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot but the exams... Even though I would put verbatim what he taught us in class (they were essay form), Id still get a low grade. In short, I never knew what he wanted and hes a tough grader. Nice tho
The sweetest man Ive ever met. Dr. Newmann really is the best kind of professor. Hes a great lecturer, answers any questions you may have, and is just so kind. The trick to doing well on his tests? Pretend he doesnt know anything and write down everything you know. His tests are short answer with an essay portion, so doing this is vital for an A
I adore Professor Newmann. His class is one I look forward to attending, because even though PoliSci isn't my favorite, the way he lectures is absolutely captivating. He is responsive to questions and the tests are pretty close to what you learn from lectures and books. If you take really good notes and pay attention, you won't need the books.
Seriously the best professor in the whole Political Science department. Some of the best lectures I've attended at this school. He's harsh with grading, but fair. He has high standards but gives a lot of helpful feedback for improvement. Get ready to pay real attention and give some effort, but you'll get a lot out of his classes if you do.
Professor Newmann is absolutely fantastic! Very knowledgable and makes lectures interesting! The only grades for this class are a map quiz and 3 tests including the final, so you have to study for those. I personally didn't use the textbooks, I just made sure I knew all the terms and concepts on the study guides.
Dr. Newmann is the type of professor you do not see at VCU every day. He's respectful, funny, and has an outgoing personality. Personally, for me, this subject is so boring, but he makes it so easy to understand and enjoyable to learn. There are one map quiz and 3 exams. you have to do is go to every lecture and take detailed notes.
Great professor, Really makes learning interesting and fun and the course isn't too hard it's more about the basic over all aspect of International Relations and the tests and exams are pretty easy too as long as you go to class and as long as you study and understand the basic concepts.
Take any class you can with him. He is just so kind and understanding.
Inspiring, kind, brilliant, and so knowledgeable about Asian politics! Go to lectures, take notes, and be interested and you will do great. There is one long/hard paper and you must reach the page limit or major points deducted. Tests are short answer + essay question, and are easy if you pay attention to the super interesting lectures.
Newmann is awesome and has been at VCU for ages. His lectures are the best and he makes any content very fascinating. He has a strong liberal bias and often talks negatively about conservatives, which could be good or bad depending on your views. He is accessible and is ready to help you succeed as long as you show interest to do your best.
Newmann is the nicest professor I have ever taken but he is a very tough grader. His syllabus has not changed since he started teaching in 1992 so hes very old school. 2 tests and an essay. very very tough grader. If you don't do EXACTLY as he wants then he will deduct major points. Extremely nice guy though and is a genius.
Newman gives very great informational lectures. He knows a lot about the subject of Terrorism so you'll definitely learn many things during the semester. My only gripe with him is that he is a very tough grader. He does not hesitate to mark off points on any assignment turned in. Other than that the class if great and he's a nice guy.
The best professor I have ever taken at VCU. His lectures are funny and he keeps things interesting. His tests are lengthy (with three short answers and usually two essay questions) but if you go to class and take good notes, then the tests will be a breeze. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! He gives really good feedback, especially for the final paper.
Not shy about his opinions. A pretty good person, really diligent about making sure all his students have what they need, getting stuff back on time, etc., just really responsible in that sense. Class was a pretty straightforward listen to lectures, take notes on it kind of deal. Tests were long essays. Grading was a little unclear but not too bad.
COVID sem* He's a great teacher and really cares about his students doing good, he had zoom lectures and he recorded them. Two essay exams, one 2 pg research with 5 pg pp. I did great on the exam bc i took notes during lectures, of his words not the content. Lenient with deadlines just need to ask, passionate ab his work, adapted great to covid!
LOVE this professor; really funny guy & actually cares about students. Can go on a tangent sometimes but it makes the class more interesting. The tests are essay questions but you can use notes so they aren't too bad. The huge project is an executive summary but he requires you to turn in a rough draft & he'll tell you how to perfect the final
Professor Newmann is easily one of the best professors I've ever had at VCU. If you ever get the chance to take a class with him do not miss out on the opportunity!! He's incredibly understanding and reasonable plus his lectures are interesting. He is very clear in what he expects from his students and he is very engaging.
I loved Newmann. He's one of the most passionate profs that VCU has and he makes info that can be kinda boring actually interesting. There's a lot of reading for this class but theyre real book not textbooks so I didn't find it that bad. If you are not a good writer do not take this class. The two tests are essay tests and the final paper is long.
Although all the lectures were recorded and posted online, I really enjoyed going to class because Newmann is probably the best Political Science professor at VCU. Very understanding, tons of useful information. Additionally, he is very conversational and is very responsive to questions. Would love to take his class again.
Hands down the best prof at VCU. He has the ability to turn something that very easily could be boring into something so enrapturing; you can't not listen to him when he's lecturing. Very knowledgeable and caring. Tests are easy if you pay attention in class. Gives great feedback on papers so you can edit them before it's due. Take this class!
Professor Newmann is cool for the most part. We only had four assignments this semester, so you don't really have enough leeway to do bad on the work; that said, it was only a citation assignment, a paper, and two exams. Try to go to class as much as you can, but he records his lectures and posts them so you won't miss much if you're not present.
A great class to take, professor Newmann loves teaching therefore you will learn a lot in this class. I will say there are only 5 things he grades, so make sure you do good on them. especially the paper you have to do. it's a short paper, but I would advise getting feedback from him twice before submitting it just to secure an A.
Best PoliSci professor at VCU! His lectures are always engaging and he is clearly so passionate about both the subject and teaching as a whole. He is super knowledgeable and great at explaining concepts. Dr. Newmann is also very understanding and kind. Everyone at VCU should take at least one Newmann class!!!
He's very knowledgeable. This class isn't easy, but it's interesting and high quality.
Professor Newmann is great but he is a TOUGH grader. Most of your grade is based on 2 exams and an executive summary. Make sure to be attentive on the paper, his instructions are complicated and it will cost you if you don't follow them
professor newmann gives incredible lectures, he is so passionate about what he teaches, which makes listening to his lectures worthwhile.
Newmann is a tough but fair grader. His classes are engaging and he provides helpful feedback, especially for the final paper. Try Unstuck AI and ChatGPT for exam prep - they really helped me in this class.
Prof. Newmann's lectures are very interactive, and you will come out understanding more than you did going in. My only problem, however, is how Prof. Newmann can be biased at times. Political professors are not supposed to share their viewpoints, to encourage students to think for themselves. This is an essential quality. Otherwise, good course.
Love Prof. Newmann. I'm taking two of his classes next semester. You have three test grades and a bunch of take-home chapter quizzes. Most of the tests can be studied for by watching Madam Secretary. 10/10 Love him and this class.
Great professor, hard to fail his class, but equally as hard to get an A. Only graded on exams and 1 paper, but will let you revise the paper as much as possible. Doesn't do extra credit, and feedback is a little limited but he is a good teacher and will explain it if you talk to him.
Great professor, hard to fail his class, but equally as hard to get an A. Had to do a big research paper that was really fun, and got to do a simulation as if we were the National Security Council. Would take the class again, but definitely need to apply yourself to the material, or you won't get a good grade.
