What Students Say
“This class is HARD, it should not be considered ENC 1143, more like a world history literature class, you could be the greatest writer of all time and still not do good, BUT professor Pewitt is BAE, he is hot af and he is extremely kind and engaging, he is a great teacher but not if you are looking for an easy A”

he da best
Great teacher! Very knowledgeable yet brings a fun, young perspective to the class. Multiple readings however theyre short and very interesting. Easy grader if you write semi-well. Must come to class. I definitely recommend!
he is awesome. my favorite teacher at unf so far. his class is fun and as long as you turn in your work there is no reason you shouldn't get an a. the work is not hard at all, you just have to do it. also, there are no tests.
He is an awesome teacher. Young so he knows what you are into and he knows how to entertain the class. Alot of reading but he makes it interesting and makes you think. I got a B+ because im not a great writer. But an easy and great teacher!
he's the best teacher i've had at unf. took him for college writing and taking him again for lit 2000. theres no reason why you shouldnt get an a in this class. he's a funny guy and makes an uninteresting subject fun
This is the best English professor I have ever taken at UNF. He is extremely helpful and very smart. I definitely recommend you taking him.
I took him summer. He's young and has a sense of humor so the class is fun and easy to follow. Attendance is the only thing that can affect your grade. Easy just come on time. Doesn't like cell phones. Helpful grader bc his comments guide and are specific on how to improve your essay. Is willing to look over your essay before the due date.
He is amazing! I am now taking him for summer B. He really makes it interesting!
He's wonderful at what he does. My only regret is taking his class during the summer and not prolonging my stay! It is apparent that he put deep thought into the layout of the class and ways to approach teaching it. He is the first professor I want to tell absolutely everyone I know about. Take this class.
GREAT PROFF! Really good at what he doe and he loves what he teaches. He will do what he can to help you! Take his class and you won't regret it! He's awesome!
Great teacher. I would definitely take him again if the opportunity presents itself. Very down to earth and knows his stuff. Learned a lot.
This class is really easy. It consisted of 2 essays, 2 tests (midterm and final), 2 simple group projects, and 2 super easy quizzes. He likes to show movies and videos, they get a little weird but entertaining. I highly recommend this class!
Easy to talk to and he's a really effective teacher. Makes the subject interesting and easy to understand.
Pewitt is a great professor! He engages you to think critically and doesn't lecture very often; you do more than take notes in his class. Get to watch 3 movies and only write 2 papers. Skipping class will not kill your grade, but you will miss a lot of interesting material. He only requires 1 book, but it's only $7.50. Overall, great professor. :)
I have never enjoyed an English class so much! He makes the class fun and interesting. He is young so he connects well with his students. He taught us what we needed to know and connected it with shows, short stories, movies and music as well. Lit2000 is no longer available, but i'm sure you'd enjoy any class with him.
Great professor! He taught the material in a way we could relate it to everyday life which of course makes it easy to understand and learn. Definitely take him if you have the chance!!!
He was awesome!! Such an easy teacher, everyone got A's. I would recommend him for anyone. He's very laid back and does not really care what you do in class as long as you are respectful.
Mr. Pewitt is a great teacher. Take this class if you want to get an A. Very easy going, but you have to write a lot.
Great teacher, honest, and critical thinking is vital. Be prepared to write and talk in class. His teaching technique is different but refreshing. Highly recommend!
An awesome professor with a wealth of knowledge. He is very approachable and always there to help. His teaching method makes the class refreshing and more interesting. This is the kind of class you never want to miss. Very easy too.
He was a good teacher in the sense that he is interested in developing good writing and rhetorical habits in his students, but doesn't necessarily teach those habits himself. Everything I learned in that class came from feedback on essay's, not from the lecture or class activity. Easy to converse with and does his best to make class enjoyable.
He is a great teacher. However, for the major essay in class... his directions were not as clear as I needed it to be. During class, there are always great conversations/discussions. If you'd like a challenge, take this class!
I took his 1143 class over the summer and he gives you a lot of reading to do and then the next day you just spend the class period discussing it. He also make you complete connect online and that absolutely but he is an awesome teacher and you watch great movies in class. He is a genuine person and truly does have your best interest in him!
This is a great professor to have for this class. Professor Pewitt managed to keep the whole class interested by discussing topics such as zombies, vampires and other Sci-Fi subjects. However this is not an easy class. There is a 30-50 page paper assignment along with a novel research paper that is 8 pages long. As well as reading many responses.
If your looking for an easy 1143 class, dont take it with him!!! Literally all you do is read, there is 4 readings a week and he quizzes you on them. It is especially hard if you dont have a good memory because all of the readings end up blending together.
If your looking for a genuine ENC 1143 class, look no further! He assigns readings every night (usually about 10-20 pages) and slightly longer assignments on the weekends (about 40-70 pages), but he truly does enjoy the class and is more than glad to help you out in any way he can. Keep in mind he does assign an 8 page paper!
Great teacher, doesn't count attendance. Easy to pass as long as you read the assignments and take notes. Class focuses on fantasy writings.
I am taking his class now, almost at the end, and I have loved it so far. Yes, you are assigned a lot of readings, but if you aren't able to read them it isn't the end of the world. If you just listen in class the next time we usually discuss. He was always there when I needed feedback and he answered my emails that day. I would recommend to anyone
Very Engaging teacher. He knows the material and is always available to help students. The class is challenging because you must read two novels and four stories(5 pages- 30 pages). He does give you time to do it though. Overall, I would recommend him to anyone and also take another course with him.
Professor Pewitt is a very calm and cool person. He assigns a lot of reading, not a lot of writing. He is very honest and frank about everything. I would highly recommend him.
Great professor! Took his A Song Of Ice And Fire writing class, and would definitely take him for another class. He's very engaged in the topic. You get quizzes about once a week, and you never know when, and it's a LOT of reading (~4,000 pages!), but it's fun reading, and keeps you interested. Great Professor!
I took Pewitt's Game of Thrones class and loved it totally! He's a super fun prof and strives to make everything understandable. We read all 5 books in one semester (5000 pgs) so BE PREPARED. Random quizzes on the reading, 2 tests, 1 fanfic & 1 paper. I never read Game of Thrones or watched it, but I loved it and left enlightened on fiction.
I took his class during summer. He assigns about 30 pgs of reading per night which he randomly quizzes you on. They are easy as long as you read the material. He also makes helpful study guides for tests. Grades essays kind of toughly, but is always willing to look over it and help you out. Overall great professor and I would take his class again.
Okay, yes he is an amazing guy but if you want to learn English, he isn't for you. Now you're probably wondering why I am saying this... ALL his material is giving you knowledge of World History. You will "learn" about the dark ages, medieval area and whatever in between. If you like history go ahead if not, DON'T TAKE.
To be brief my favorite professor so far, made waking up at 9am on Fridays bearable. I learned so much and he is so fair with all of his assignments and expectations. If you study, go to class, and care you will do great in this class. A very great but different approach to English. Love him will take any class he teaches.
Professor Pewitt is young and hilarious. He does curse quite a bit, but he keeps all of his material interesting. His ENC1143 class was more like a History class, but he made it work.
Best professor I've had in a long time, pay attention in class and you'll get an A - guaranteed :)
Amazing professor. His lectures combine elements of narrative and history. The papers are well set guidelines and he gives great feedback. A young professor so very relatable. Take his class, you will not regret it
He's an amazing professor. He does give out small (2-10 double spaced pages) readings after every class, but they aren't that hard. Do read them! He's very helpful and is extremely funny. I'd recommend him for any English class you have to take.
I honestly loved his class! If you like history, then I definitely recommend taking Professor Pewitt since he incorporates a lot of it into his lectures. Most nights there will be a reading assignment and he normally goes over it in the next class. Usually a quiz every few weeks, three tests, three essays, and a couple of small writing assignments.
Will is a fantastic professor. His class is essentially a history class and is loads of work for a gen ed, but it will teach you so much and he is always there for help. And he's beautiful.
Will Pewitt is one of the beat teachers I've ever had. He takes a really cool twist on the 1143 class and incorporates a ton of history. You will learn so much, and even though it's a lot of work, it's worth it. Also, he's beautiful, so that's never a bad thing.
You get one free skip day, so use it wisely if you chose to use it. The class is heavy in European History so be prepared to study names and famous quotes. He explains everything and does a massive review before the final. I took the class in the summer so there were only two quizzes and two tests, but there was a total of eight papers due.
Seriously the BEST professor I've had at UNF! I took him for ENC 1143, CRW 2100 (Game of Thrones), and now CRW 3110 (High Fantasy). This guy is hilarious and he makes the classes fly by with discussions/lectures. Yes, you will read quite a bit, but the books that he uses are extremely entertaining, like GoT. Will take every class that he offers!
Good looking teacher, funny, nice, butttt most of the class is history, so i didn't do too well. Attendance is mandatory and make sure you do all the readings. pop quizzes can be pretty hard and are based one history/the readings.....
one of the best teachers i've ever had. he's extremely engaging during class and lectures are never boring. go to class to pass and do the readings he assigns. the work is enjoyable if you pay attention throughout the course. he makes history and english interesting. and he's super hot. wish i could take a class with him every semester
Great professor! His lectures are long, but he knows a lot about everything! Pretty easy test and quizzes as long as you do the readings and pay attention in class.
Pewitt is a really great professor because he is passionate in what he teaches and it makes you really interested. almost like taking a philosophy or world history class because he focuses on time period along with famous writers. His project assignments are the hardest he will guide you if you ask for help bc they r difficult. also he is rlly cute
This class is HARD, it should not be considered ENC 1143, more like a world history literature class, you could be the greatest writer of all time and still not do good, BUT professor Pewitt is BAE, he is hot af and he is extremely kind and engaging, he is a great teacher but not if you are looking for an easy A. Also you don't need the textbooks
While I find professor Pewitt to be an overall good guy and a good teacher he gives far to many readings and expects way to much out of the class. If you lose a couple of the readings you may be in trouble for the quizzes/tests. Currently studying to not fail his final which is also hard.
Pewitt is a really chill dude. You're given a hand out to read (READ IT) and then you go over the historical context. A few quizzes on this and you really need to be there for his lectures to do well. He's absolutely hilarious but there is A LOT of reading. Three summaries, essays and projects make up your grade (plus quizzes and participation)
Took Pewitt for Fiction Writing and let me say he's an amazing professor. Doesn't lecture for that class, instead puts desks in a circle for discussion about the books you read. Only quizzes are on the books when you finish them. Otherwise your writing is what you're graded on. He's funny and swears a little but knows his stuff.
I took Pewitt for Intro to Fiction Writing (Game of Thrones Class) and was pleasantly surprised. I was not looking forward to reading 6000+ pages in a single semester, but the reading load was entirely worth the class. Pewitt is nice, easygoing, relatable, and extremely knowledgeable. He's humble but he's a really smart dude and I had fun learning.
I had Pewitt for my ENC 1143 for my first semester at college, and he was one of my favorite professors ever. He tried to explain the most important books in history in way that everyone understands and loves to answer any question to be engage. The class is easy as long as you attend class.
This teacher was awesome! The lectures incorporate context and historical background which I found helpful and interesting. He puts a lot of effort into the class and expects you to do the same by attending class, participating, and thoughtfully reading the materials provided by him. He grades fairly and includes helpful notes. Expect quizzes.
I took Mr. Pewitt's LIT2000 class for Summer B. This was my favorite class. His lectures are great. He is available for questions and he will comment on your paper if you send it to him before the due date. You should be fine as long as you read the material he provides, take notes, and study.
A great teacher and he's very willing to help you, but this is a lot harder than most enc1143 classes. There were multiple readings every night which are fine, but he will announce quizzes a week ahead and those are usually difficult. He will edit your entire essays if you send them 3 days prior to the due date. Very helpful but hard to get an A.
I took this in my first semester of college and it quickly became my favorite class because of Will's lectures, many students found the class to be more difficult than I did, however, if you do your reading and turn in the assignments you will definitely pass. I highly recommend taking one of his classes.
Tough professor, but u will pass if you put the effort in. One of the toughest courses I've taken, but well worth it. Although you write 4 papers and a couple of summary's, the class is not all about writing. Its more of a philosophy class due to the content- quizzes and tests are fill in the blank and essays only. 2-3 readings every night b4 class
While a difficult class, Mr. Pewitt is an excellent professor. The lectures are entertaining and make you want to learn more, which is great for a class that involves so much reading. IF YOU DONT DO THE DAILY READINGS, YOU WILL NOT PASS. I tried it and got a low C (thanks to being able to write good essays, I failed every test and quiz).
If you want to be a better writer, take one of Will's classes. The class was demanding, but with his help it was interesting. I never thought I would write a play until this class. I am so happy I took it. He humorously guides the class to understand these complex motifs. All the power to Will Pewitt. He is seriously the best professor I've had.
A lot of reading, however the best professor I have had yet at UNF. Attendance and participation are crucial to understanding the complex material. Reminds me of Reid from Criminal Minds
Where do I event start , professor Peweitt is awesome . I would definitely take him again. He makes you want to read the 20-30 page packets he assigns so that you know whats going on and your able to give an educational answer , honestly one of my fav prof Ive ever had . He really knows his stuff and is just super awesome in general . PARTICAPATE
really cool dude. really cool lectures. learned a lot of cool stuff. 10/10 would take again. warning: he makes you have to actually try
I thoroughly enjoyed his class and Id love to take another class of his! Hes very engaging and makes the material much easier to understand. Hes a fantastic professor!
Pewitt is the best. He is very down to earth and is super engaging in his lectures. Do the readings and submit essays early for him to review and you will get an A. He is super funny and will always make you think. One of the best classes I've ever taken. Not having to buy a textbook is nice too.
I LOVED this class! He is so so funny in his lectures and is super informative. He mixes philosophy with literature with history and it is so interesting. Always come to class or miss a lot of information. Very few essays, those that he assigns are pretty easy. Really passionate about what he teaches, and is so knowledgeable about the topics.
Really great professor, I actually really enjoyed sitting in class and listening to the lectures, you can tell he is extremely intelligent and loves what he does. Theres A LOT of reading and you 100% need to study to pass but it's so worth it if you would rather learn than have an easy A.
Took him for an honors section of ENC1143 and it was more philosophy than English which made it really interesting. He's super funny and lectures are great. There is a lot of reading but most of them were really good and I hate reading.
I took his online professional communications class over Summer B. Hes very helpful with feedback on papers if you email them to him, and grading can be tough if you dont have him look over it beforehand. For the online class, theres only assignments, quizzes, and book reading (which is pretty interesting). Very good choice for this class.
This professor is the best UNF professor I've had thus far. He's funny, reasonable, understanding and actually wants us to learn. The class was interesting. It made me question life in general. There are 4 essays, 4 quizzes (easy), in-class final exam and 2-part take home. The least best thing was the participation necessity but great class overall
Took his Sci-Phi course & loved it! Graded by some tests and 3 big papers but he's a nice grader as he isn't as meticulous for a 1000 level course. His lectures were usually discussion-heavy but they were both fun and informative. Communicates outside info to the class well and frequently- keeps us in the loop.
Professor Pewitt is the best professor that I have ever had at UNF. He is the most insightful and caring professor that I have ever had. I never missed his lectures because of how wonderful they were and I was always happy to go to his class. I would recommend everyone to take one of his courses.
He's just, amazing.
Taking him for literature my first semester definitely was a great idea! His lecture videos are somewhat long but tolerable because he makes jokes constantly. Only 4 essays for the whole semester and he tells you what to fix if you turn them in early. Genuinely a great class, and if I could I would take it again.
Professor Pewitt is a good choice for LIT 2000 - good feedback, makes jokes during his lectures, and the coursework is straightforward. However, the content of this class was/is based around Sci-fi and history and was very lecture heavy. If you are not an auditory learner, then you may have a more difficult time grasping the concepts covered.
Professor Pewitt is the best. I am taking his Lit Class next semester specifically because of the positive experience I had with ENC1143. He genuinely cares about his students and the subject material he presented was very engaging. This was unlike any class I have taken before in the best way possible.
Professor Pewitt is super nice, interesting, and accessible. He also gave some of the most encouraging comments on my papers that I have ever received.
Great Professor. Fun, Caring and I learned a lot in this class
Best class and professor ever! Enjoyed every minute of it!
summer course. I think i will end up with an A+(94% or above). 8 modules. each module includes a quiz+ a Discussion board.3 total essays. Quizzes are timed. course at your own pace. Great feedback. Grades fairly. Great teacher.
Participation really matters. You participate to get the points, don't be afraid to put yourself out there. The only thing worse that trying is not doing anything at all.
I took Professor Pewitt for Model US freshman year, and this class was my mental break between STEM courses. If you participate you will get a good grade, and the class was very entertaining from start to finish. Would recommend over any other freshman honors course!!!
Participation definitely matters. Although attendance isn't necessarily mandatory, you need to attend class in order to receive simulation points. Your grade is mostly determined by simulation points which aren't hard to get as long as you participate. Professor Pewitt is a great profesor overall and really knows the material.
Awesome guy. Good last semester of Model US. Just do stuff in his simulations and your grade will be fine. In-person lectures are a little hard to follow but it's nothing you can't review before the exam. A few papers, but he grades easy. Kinda just lets the simulation develop, lots of freedom. Lots of easy extra credit.
Very knowledgeable about the topics, but his lectures were all over the place. It was difficult to take notes in this class from how all over the place it was. I had personal things going on and he was understanding of the situation and gave extensions. Overall, pretty good if you can understand what he is talking about
Easy to understand. Do your part in class and keep up with the work then you're golden in the class. I highly recommend taking him.
Great professor and very interesting lectures. The class was a lot of work but I think that was more a my group issue rather than a representative of what it would be like if you work with people who actually show up.
Had him for multiple classes and loved every single one of them. As long as you partcipate and do the work you will get an A. If you aren't able to do some things he will work with you to make sure you can still succeed in the class. His lectures are entertaining and his tests are always easy as long as you pay attention to them. Highly reccomend.
Very genuine, sweet guy. The course is a really cool concept but the lectures are a bit scattered at times. Readings assigned for almost every class, but they usually aren't super long. Course is divided into 3 modules. If you go to class, participate in the activities, and submit an appropriate amount of documents per module you will do well.
Took Philosophy in Science Fiction for the six-week Summer A term. Definitely a cram session, we had to read two good-sized novels and several short fiction pieces. His lectures were really thought-provoking and he's such a cool guy. As long as you can write a couple of 1000-word essays and discussion responses, you'll be alright.
TAKE THIS CLASS! The professor is super kind and knowledgeable, the lectures are never boring, and quizzes are easy as long as you pay attention. The class is literally a big NRP session, and you get credits. Literally no reason not to take him.
Just took Professor Pewit for my Age of Revolutions course. He knows a lot about the subject he teaches and sometimes can have long lectures but if you take good notes are easy to follow. His class was very engaging and interactive and loved this course.
