This tends to be a very difficult subject for many. The class started out at like 30 then dropped to 10 (me being one of them). He is very fair on grading. The material is a little difficult and you have to keep up with the class by doing the h/w. If you do that, you will pass the tests no problem!

He went so fast that I got lost on what he was doing most of the time and was 2-3 problems behind him writing notes hopeing to understand later. His tests are very hard and are the only grades with very little extra credit, and you only get that if you do ALL homework.

Usually mathmatics instructors give their presentations in a manner that one can write into notes somewhat easily, but Rickman uses mostly examples instead of teaching formula. I ended up teaching myself a good deal out of the book.He was great at explaining away any questions I had after I did the HW. Oh yeah, do your homework if you want to pass.

THe class was full when I started, on day of final 4 people were left, and out of those 4, only 2 passed (I wasn't one of them). Only grades are the tests and if you mess up on them, there is very little chance of recovering your grade. Teaches by doing examples straight out of book, which still arent very helpful. Very good professor at the higher levels of math, Calc and higher is where he really shines anything before and he teaches a little too fast. Overall, he has a little extra credit on each test and a make up test, (which is usually a carbon copy of the test you are making up), the make up test replaces your lowest test and a moderatly easy final.

Very good professor. Goes over work in class, gives you plenty of work to practice with. Do the bonus work, it will help you for the test. One warning, grading for this class is based on test scores. Four chapter tests and the final, added and averaged. Homework is a small percentage. If you aren't good with tests, pick a different class.

I took him for Calculus 2 in a virtual environment through zoom lectures. He uses his Ipad to do the notes which are hard to read. If you want to pass the class, I would say get a tutor or use the book as he will mumble or side track and not really explain what he is doing. He is super low grader, I got my tests back 1 week after the test.

Knows what he is doing if you need examples. Class is based on quizzes and tests. Bonus assignments are practice for the test and go toward a higher test grade. Also lets you retake a test at the end of the semester. Just do the bonus assignments and you will pass. Must communicate if something seems off and don't be afraid to speak. Nice guy.

In the beginning of the semester, Prof. Rickman told me that he would be able to help me in any of my struggles, but did not reply to any of my emails throughout the semester. He is a very tough grader and oftentimes will not give any feedback other than red marks all over the page. He takes points off for little things and sometimes unfair things

The class experiences were fantastic. He gave us tons of examples of real world applications that root from the math we work on solving. He did it for nearly every section. Plus, lectures contain theory, proofs, and practical examples that help with solving others. It was engaging, and there were many opportunities for active participation.

Honestly I really liked him. Classes consisted of practice problems the whole time. Grades consist of quiz grade which you took after each class session if you use the notes you just took its easy The tests werent bad as long as you do the homework Homework isnt mandatory but you get 5 bonus points added to youre grade so i think its good.

Here is what you need to know: do the extra credit (it looks like a lot but if you divide it up over the course of a week or so it is not that bad), exams are not too difficult and he lets you retake your lowest one, he is approachable and doesn't pick on students to answer questions in class, there are in-class quizzes but you can use notes

Class was very well structured and Prof. Rickman communicated expectations very well. He does a great job at introducing concepts and working through problems, but definitely plan on doing the extra credit homework, especially if you want to really learn the material.

Teaches insanely fast and often does not fully write down steps when solving equations making it tough to understand at times, he also teaches more than what needs to be known for the tests making it difficult to know what to study.

I'm sure Prof. Rickman works well for some people, but absolutely not for me. The only grades in the class are tests and non-mandatory extra credit so, if you aren't a good test taker or rely on learning through homework practice, do NOT take him. It's very lecture and note heavy and the most recent notes on canvas are on sections from months ago.

Long, rushed, 3 hour lectures that make no sense. I would go to this 3 hour class just to come back home and reteach myself everything. This professor also thought it would be a good idea to give us an exam after 3 lectures. Almost impossible to study for his exams because he refused to provide any kind of study guide/material. Glad I dropped it.

Was so unwilling to work with me about needing extra time just because I couldn't get my hands on my paperwork. Homework; if you don't have the time to do it, you won't pass. He moves very quickly through lecture. DOESN'T POST YOUR GRADE! He bases it on averages of all test grades, and doesn't update it on Canvas! Assigns large amounts of homework.

This is probably the best review you'll read for him. He teaches very well. He grades on only 4 things which are the exams. In between the exams, it's optional to do homework and if done completed, he'll add 5 extra credit points towards that exam. Overall he's a solid professor and I'm going to have him again for Calc 2.

Professor Rickman is kind and really cares about the success of his students and if you pay attention in class and do the work; you will learn the material well. He is a college professor who expects college level work and dedication to his class. Calculus II is not an easy class, but he makes it a lot less "painful" than other professors would.

Rickman was Great! Simple guy, simple lectures. Grade is based around the exams. No study guide for exams but exams are basic problems that are based from in class examples as well as the textbook. The A wont be handed to you, but the people saying he is super difficult most likely didn't put in the effort to succeed. Work hard and he'll help.

Pretty much a review of what you learned before, but goes a bit more in depth with the material. A lot of pop quizzes after the lecture, but you're allowed to use your notes. Try to aim more a B or higher on the quizzes, then focus on the tests. Extra credit opportunities by "Bonus Assignments" (up to 5 points) and chance to do a replacement test.

His teaching style wasn't for me, even as someones who's good at math. He gave quizzes at the end of class, even though we'd just learned the material 5 minutes ago. The "5-point EC" due before tests is what should be the HW, but it's set up so inconveniently. His online notes are hard to follow and don't cover everything that was actually taught.

Trigonometry. I had prior math experience with trig so the class came easier to me. Every class had quizzes worth 10 points which was a grade by itself and a curve for your unit test. He couldn't seem to answer questions too well and had trouble explaining certain concepts to the class. Quizzes at the end of class were easy if you paid attention.

Most of the grade was test scores, but he is a lenient grader. I completely misunderstood a 20-point section and only had a couple points taken off. Definitely do the extra credit homework. There is not a lot as long as you have decent time management, and it is good for studying anyways. The textbook is confusing, but his lectures make it easy.
