I wouldn't even consider this professor unless you like to participate in class b/c its a must it counts 10% of your grade. I dropped the first day.
The way he teaches is cool, though be prepare that his tests are tough. Tests are in essay formatted and he does curve.
Very good teacher, but makes you work for your grade. If you really want to learn and remember the material then take him.
dr. rochlin cares about his students and teaches his class like he is teaching biology student and not simply pre-med majors who simply want an A. He wants you to do well but that means you have to work hard for your grade.
He is a terrible professor, he makes sure that only one person gets an A in the class and the rest fall in the C/D range. Don't take him, he makes his exams impossible and tries to con students by giving them a good curve, but dont fall for it.
Very hard tests but you learn a lot. You need to study hard, ask questions, come prepared to class and don't skip class otherwise you'll be lost.
DO NOT TAKE HIM.nice and teaching style isn't terrible, but all exams entirely essay, won't give a study guide of any kind to prepare. Tests impossible, has to set his curve so 40 is a C, even then he shows us majority of class is at low C/D with 1 B.
terrible professor. every single test is impossible. forced to set low curve, but even then majority of class is at a C or D with 1 A and a low B. doesn't matter how much you study, the tests are impossible to do good on. refuses to give a study guide.
Worst professor ever. He is very unclear in his explanations and his tests. I would avoid him at all costs.
Bad class, bad teacher. Jsut bad news!
I have taken 2 of his classes and have now worked in his lab for over 2 years. A rare professor who is not willing to dumb the class down in order to ensure that everybody is happy. Memorization does not work, he requires comprehension.
You learn so much with this guy. After his class the cell bio questions on the MCAT were a BREEZE. Half my friends flunked the science section, but I rocked it.
You may not understand why he is so hard when you are in the class, but when you take the MCAT or the GRE, you will be thankful.
I hated this class and I hated this professor. He wanted all the professors to teach like he does. THANK GOD for that!! He is EXTREMELY difficult and is stingy on points in his exams. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY HIS GRADING SCALE.
dug the class, guy is pretty cool
Great professor! Willing to work with students and has a great teaching style. He has active participation as part of the grade and expects students to really comprehend the information instead of memorizing stupid multiple choice questions that are easily forgotten over time. Difficult, but best
Aww, he's so cute in that nerdy prof. kind of way! But a wonderful teacher -- he makes u understand, not memorize. The tests are difficult, but when you ace them you feel amazing. Def. take him if you want to LEARN (not jack off.)

he isn't a good teacher at all. his tests are extremely difficult. the class is not worth taking...wait for haas. if you have the time to learn and spend all of your time on cell bio, than go ahead. otherwise, run in the other direction.
So you can completely tell he loves cell biology and knows a whole lot about it .. but he expects you to know the exact same amount as him. He's an incredibly hard teacher to follow and understand. If you are brilliant at biology/experiments, take his class .. otherwise, you'd be working your ass off like me .
Really great guy, but his tests are ridiculously hard. The book is pretty much useless and the lectures he posts on Blackboard, he leaves a lot of things blank, so you are forced to attend class, which isn't a bad thing except he usually goes too fast for students to take proper notes. Syllabus said 75% is an A, if that tells you anything.GoodLuck!
I think that he is very intelligent and he shows it in his class. I just don't think that he really knows how to teach the material because he is not very clear and if you do decide to take this class prepare to study for at least 4-5 hours a day! I would recommend someone else.
Pre-Med students beware! This man will RUIN your GPA. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. You have to study for hours on end and his tests are incredibly difficult. He thinks his is the only class you have and he obviously doesn't care about our grades judging by his grading scale. He doesn't know how to teach the topic either. he is so unclear! I hate him.
Yes, he's very hard. But he'll teach you biology. Just memorizing stuff you'll forget 10 mins after the test isn't biology. He expects you to think, and sadly most people can't handle that. So if you actually want to learn, take his class. I worked my ass off and I pulled an A-.
Even though I didn't get the best grade in the class, i learned a lot. It's not an easy class, you have to go lecture to understand the material because the book doesnt do you much good. Mostly teaches off lecture notes. know how it works, why important, how to test for it etc. Understand the slides and study! Good Luck!
DONT DO IT!!!! i was just like you and went on this site to read his ratings and thought to myself "i'l just work really hard and learn a lot". he speaks in a convoluted way and even the simplist things are confusing to understand. his lectures are based on students answering his hypothetical questions. never know what to study for test. AVOID!!!!!
Dr. Rochlin is one the best professors at Loyola. Actually has a great sense of humor, and is incredibly knowledgeable in his field. A very intelligent man, who should be greatly admired and respected. You MUST understand the material to do well in his class. He can seem intimidating, but he doesn't mean to be. A bit of a cutie too. Great guy.
unreliable, not helpful, very disrespectful
Nice guy. This site kinda scared me when I had to register for his class (it was the only open one that fit my schedule) but it ended up being one of my favorite classes. It's not easy, but it's interesting, and it's certainly not impossible. Go to class pay attention, listen/talk in class, and take good notes. You'll be fine.
Prof. Rochlin is a tough , but then again this is a tough subject. You'll need about 25-35 hours of out of class prepare time between exams (don't fall behind!), he uses powerpoint slides but leaves parts blank, so if you don't come to class you won't get all the info. Take him seriously and he'll change the way you learn and teach.
He is an amazing profesory who will really make you think and learn. He can be intimidating at first, but if you put in the work and follow his advice, you'll do well. If you really want to learn cell biology, take this class. I'm definitely way more interested in cell bio than before I took the class.
Don't take him! His class is really tough! Tests are all written (no MC) and class averages are about 60, but huge curve. He doesn't answer questions during office hours/email, u have to ask in class. Tests are based solely on his notes (which includes material not in the book). Tests are all critical thinking questions not memorization.
Hard class, but I retained more info than any other bio class that I have taken. Curves the tests to the class. All lecture based, don't even need to buy the book
Definitely do not recommend taking him especially if you are a biology major and want to keep a high GPA. There are other cell bio teachers who are WAY better and have MC tests....Rochlin on the other hand wants to test your knowledge in the most bizarre way possible. Do not take him!
Although I did not get the grade I wanted or a good one at that, I liked his teaching style and lectures were interesting enough. He really wants you to know the concepts and be able to apply them to similar, but new situations. If you want easy grades do not take him, but if you want to learn cell bio, then he is a good pick. Txt book not required
Ok Tips in getting good grades in class: Buy a recorder, Take notes only from his class (NOT FROM THE BOOK), DO NOT BUY THE BOOK, LISTEN TO THE RECORDINGS CAREFULLY, apply what you learned on something of similar scenario and look for a kid that really knows the subject and get help from him.
COULD NOT BE WORSE. I never write on these things but believe me when I say that I HAD TOO! This guy is on a different planet. Does not care and hates pre-med students because he couldn't make it! now he takes his revenge. Stay away!!!
3 exams and a final. Participation is part of your class grade. His exams are the best exams I've taken at Loyola. He really wants you to understand the concepts and think critically. This will definitely help you with other exams i.e. the MCAT.
Dr. Rochlin is difficult. He will tell you the first day that his class is a class to take if you want to learn, not necessarily do well. You will underestimate what this means. Smart people get ~30% on tests in this class sometimes. Even with the curve this is a low C or high D. Work hard and think hard.
Yep, he's friggin' hard! I've been a straight A student my whole life and never worked so hard for a B. Def the hardest prof I've had yet. He def knows his stuff though! He strikes me as a legit scientist. You will come out understanding cell bio really well but possibly at the expense of your GPA.
Rochlin is not easy, but his class was worth it. I learned more in this one class than most of my education to this point. His tests are challenging, but once you figure out how his exams are, you learn as you go. If you are premed I would recommend taking him. He has a good curve to his class, you will survive, I have faith in you.
Stay away from this professor. You do not use the book, but his explanation and notes are not clear enough. DO NOT be fooled by his grading scale his tests are absolutely ridiculous. They are short answer, but not explained well. There are much better professor that you can take. STAY AWAY!!
DO NOT TAKE!
if you care about your grade I wouldn't recommend this class. lectures are very unclear and exams are overly complicated.
Bill Rochlin is a passionate fella. He has a greater interest in his research. He knows what he's talking about but he demands a great amount of detail in his tests. If you're good at memorizing detail, you'll be fine. Concepts will only go so far. Good guy but again, be prepared to understand some material on your own.
Simply put, work and study outside of class A-C Just go to class and pay attention D-F Do neither F Btw, about half of you will drop the class and change your major. So good luck, cause it's getting hella hard now! Good luck.
He is horrible. He expects leaps and bounds out of students and tests on obscure minute details. His tests may appear short, but they will kill you. You have to record lectures. Book isn't great. He added quizzes which are horrible. He will not change his way of teaching.. Only posts incomplete powerpoints. The last test average was a 47%. AVOID!!!
Oh God.. please don't take him... He talks to you like you're an experienced scientist not at all like a student that is learning this stuff for the first time. Also, makes you feel dumb for asking questions or answering his questions wrong. Really struggled with this class.
one of the hardest professors I've every taken.
I took him a few semesters ago and after taking a few more rigorous courses, its official this was one of the hardest classes i've ever taken. Barely made a C and i had put a lot of hours into this course. he's a good guy but the class is just super hard.
Dr. Rochlin is the best professor I've had at Loyola. He wants to develop your critical thinking, not memorizing, skills, and he structures tests and lectures around this. A lot of students hate him because his class isn't an easy A- it's not bad if you just show up and study. He's a super nice and caring guy, he's always available if you need help
The definition of a hard class. Exams feel overly complicated and grading seems biased. The course was interesting and very in depth which was great but was overshadowed by the exams he gave out. I've compared and contrasted with peers in Cell Biology and its not even close to the same level. He holds his students to a very advanced level of bio.
makes you feel incompetent when answering a question.
Dr. Rochlin knows his stuff. He explains everything he wants his students to know very clearly. Assuming students know general chemistry and biology, they should be able to follow the content well if they try hard. He gives recommendations on how students should study, which work very well. He gives sample questions, which are helpful as well.
Rochilin is the toughest Cell Biology professor at this school. I learned a lot to be fair, but my grade did not reflect that. His tests and quizzes are meant to challenge students knowledge, but he just asks questions that are poorly worded. He wants to make students apply their knowledge, which I think is great, but he simply does not succeed.
Hands down hardest professor I've had at Loyola. He expects more out of you than most of the teachers you'll ever get, but he means well by doing so. He expects you to grow as a person and know how to critically think. DO NOT slack off or you will struggle greatly.
He's a nice guy to talk to one on one. I had a break down and he gave good advice and wished me luck. But he's honestly a bad teacher. He'll make fun of you for getting the wrong answer during participation and his lectures are put online incomplete just as an unnecessary challenge to students. That's this class: unnecessarily challenging.
Dr. Rochlin is very smart and cares about challenging his students. This is NOT an easy class and will demand a lot of your time, but will prepare you for the future. Begin doing everything as early as possible especially reading papers for your presentations. DO NOT wait till the last minute if you care about your grade. Study hard and youll be ok
Dr. Rochlin is a great guy. Terrible Cell Bio Professor. I walked out of his class learning nothing. He is beyond boring during lecture making it hard to stay awake. His exams are beyond difficult and beyond what he taught you. He words things very difficultly. Do not take him. I am an A student and got a C.
I feel like i was in a plane crash and the foreign land i landed in is this cell bio class. I dont dwell on monotone professors - if i can read the book and still pass. That's not the case - tests (that are beyond hard class average is around 60%) are purely lecture based. Book does not help - if you have to take him record and relisten x100
PowerPoints are put online with missing content to make it harder for those who miss class. Uses full terms in one part of the slide, then weird abbreviations later. Slides are full of paragraphs. Tests feel like they're master's level. Monotone, creeky voice got really old really fast. Condescending if you answer a question wrong in class.
Powerpoints miss vital information, seamlessly so you wont notice unless you give your undivided attention. i.e note taking is hard. Expects you to talk but is extremely condescending. Test are incomprehensible being that he tries to sound smart so he word things very oddly. If you have the option, save yourself the stress and take someone else.
exams are tough but totally doable. he gives lots of extra credit on the exams. curves heavily. A- starts at 84. he holds his students to a very high standard. To do well, record all lectures and re-listen them 2-3 times before the exam. Be active in class. No textbook necessary. He is approachable, but can be mean at times.
Dr. Rochlin is an intelligent professor who expects a level of interest and dedication from his students. I am an A student, but I never had to work this hard before. He truly makes you understand and connect concepts in ways I have never been taught. Take this class if you really want to learn to think critically. Greatest professor by far!
This guy thinks that your life is devoted to his class.
Cell bio isn't hard but rochlin really makes you learn. It's not an easy class. You'll have to work hard. Def take if you're premed
Shouldn't be teaching this class, he should be teaching a biology 400 level. This class was by far the hardest class for no reason. No reason for exams to be the way they are, the tests make you lose everything you thought you knew. Don't take this class.
Dr. Rochlin did NOT teach a capstone class how it should be taught. He expects us to know research based methods, rushes through lecture without giving us time to take notes, was extremely difficult when it came to exams, and treated us like graduate students. While he is a very smart man, he has no understanding how unreasonable his class is.
The most important thing in this class is to pay attention during lecture, take really good notes, and ask questions as soon as they pop up. Seriously professor Rochlin does NOT make this class easy, and you have to stay on top of things and active to do well. Usually doing well on a quiz is a good gage, be prepared to really study!
He leaves out vital info in the power points. His exams are incomprehensible and he wants to sound smart when he writes the exam questions. He is incredibly condescending which makes it hard to participate in class or ask questions. No drop in office hours. Wants you to learn his beliefs on topics and NOT what the book says. Save yourself!
He leaves out vital information on powerpoint, making note taking difficult. Exams ask general questions and he expects specific, detailed answers, making it hard to get above Bs without fully committing to the class. Unless you're really interested in neurobiology, I wouldn't take this class
Worst professor ever, avoid at all cost. Unless you want to spend every living breathing moment studying for cell biology do not take him. He is condescending and rude if you don't understand the material.
If you are looking up Bill you're probs a neuroscience major and you have to take him for a capstone course so here are some pointers to succeed: attend every class and discussion, record the lectures to re-listen (this is super helpful), be able to understand/explain main conclusions and techniques used in the papers! Study material in free time!!
Hard class, but expectations were laid out clearly, exams are only lecture based, record the class listen to it and re-write notes. For quizzes look at sample questions, usually the same. Grading scale is heavily curved 40% is a C-. Know the results/methods/techniques used and what the researchers were trying to prove/disprove i.e) the ppts.
THE. HARDEST. CLASS. EVER. The Capstone is no joke, and you should take it very seriously. I recorded lectures and transcribed them word for word, and I still struggled. Rochlin is friendly , but he is so hard to please and expects too much. I'd recommend doing the optional presentation to get on his good side and change the weights of the exams.
Roch is not the move. If you're a neuroscience major Id highly recommend switching to the cognitive track because of this one class alone. It is passable but it's not pretty. You basically have to be a cyborg to do well and with online covid classes it's basically impossible to do well. Avoid him at all costs cause he does not want you to succeed.
I took this class a few years ago. Yes, its hard. Especially if you're the kind of student who memorizes instead of understands. If you can understand why something works instead of just knowing that it does you will be just fine. You have to use critical thinking, not just regurgitate answers. This class prepared me well for grad school.
The rumors you heard about the capstone are 100% correct. This course will be the most difficult course you will take at Loyola. Exams are insanely hard and are poorly worded. Dr. Rochlin does NOT allow for students to come to office hours to ask questions about the material. Basically on a power trip to ruin your GPA. Too much effort for one class
The capstone felt like a nightmare. Dr. Rochlin shouldnt be teaching undergraduate students. Exams felt impossible and he wanted us to fully understand concepts that he didnt even fully understand. I highly encourage you to shift over to the behavioral track for neuroscience or else you face the possibility of suffering a great amount.
This class was the hardest class I ever took. But if you attend all lectures, take notes, ask questions, and record the lectures, you should be in good shape. Participation matters a lot. Do not treat this as a memorization class. Be prepared to think critically and connect concepts in new ways. Dr. Rochlin prepared me well for upper level courses.
His class is not easy, but it is so rewarding. I have learned more in this cell bio class than I have ever learned in all my previous bio classes combined. You have to understand material, not memorize it. Anyone who gave him a poor review did not do what was necessary to succeed, and he tells all of his students what it takes to get an A in class.
If you're a Molecular Neuroscience major and you've made it this far, you KNOW what you're getting into. The topic is not easy, but Rochlin is knowledgeable and tries his best to help you. He cares a lot for his students. The class is a lot of work. Rewatch recorded lecture, take notes, and read them over til you've got it down.
Dr. Rochlin is one of the best professors Ive had at Loyola. If you get a chance, PLEASE take him. He definitely makes you work for your grade; I have never worked harder to get a B... BUT you become a stronger student in the process. He is intimidating at first but MEANS THE ABSOLUTE BEST for his students. He is very kind when answering questions
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken but if you're going into the medical field it really prepares you for tougher classes. You really have to understand the material not just memorize it. I noticed that his quizzes focused on bigger concepts and were more straightforward and his exams focused on the smaller details.
This class is difficult, but Dr. R gives you everything you need to succeed. I have never met such a compassionate and humble life sciences professor. I am used to arrogance and he is far from that. He wants you to understand and in doing so he helps you to become a better student. Take him if you are going in to the medical field! A 10/10 human!
He is a nice guy. Class is very hard though. The exams are very hard to prepare and extremely hard to even get a passing grade on. It is not really clear what to study for his quizzes. Whole class is based of 4 exams and a bunch of quizzes so there is nothing in between to help your grade. Didn't like the class at all. Don't recommend it.
Dr. Rochlin is a gem, I mean he baked us like 100 cookies for our final and is so patient with students. The material is hard but reasonable. Take notes on EVERY WORD and be able to summarize lectures in a paragraph (helps to simplify). 80% of the questions are not a surprise, but the 20% that are super hard can be made up for by his EC questions.
This class was extremely difficult and what is most upsetting is that the difficulty was not necessary. The lectures are super rushed and include detail that only add confusion. To succeed, rewatch every lecture and begin studying early. If possible avoid taking this class alongside other difficult classes as one or both grades will suffer.
Amazing and smart professor, but his exams are extremely hard. You have to KNOW everything you've learned and apply it on the exam. You would also have to be able to think creatively and critically on exams. There are weekly quizzes. I would avoid taking him if your GPA means a lot to you. Especially avoid taking him with your other hard sciences.
VERY lecture intense, but he does record all of them. His exams are very difficult but every question can be answered from lecture content. Exams also have a lot of opportunities for extra credit. Start studying early and use every resource to help you understand. He was always VERY open to questions as well. Super caring and understanding too.
There's a reason Rochlin has just as many 5 stars as he does 1 stars. This dude is tough. It's unnecessarily tough, but if you take him, you will only come out so much stronger. The capstone is not worth it for most people - switch majors if you care about your time and grades (no shame, that's ok). But if you're hardcore, you'll be grateful.
This class is not impossible but requires a lot of dedication to do well in. I highly recommend watching lecture 2-3x and taking detailed notes in class and revising them daily. Understand the methods/results/purpose of each study and cre-lox system constructs.
DO NOT TAKE!! He was amazing and so sweet as a person but this class was damn near impossible. When looking at the reviews I was like no I'm fine I ended all my other bio courses with a 98. Biggest mistake of my life. He makes the class way harder than it needs to be. Had a real quiz(not a syllabus quiz) the second day school started.
Dr. Rochlin is tough, but worth the challenge. If you know how to study efficiently, you will be fine. Tests are lecture based and heavy on application, so be prepared to give 100%. He records lectures and provides practice questions. Dr. Rochlin is accessible outside of class, accommodating, and an amazing person overall. I loved his class.
Class was extremely hard but learned a lot about the subject and myself. Learn how to study or don't take Dr. R!! Grades are exams and quizzes w/ participation EC. Exams also have a ton of conceptual EC questions. All lectures are recorded. Don't take if you're not motivated or up for the challenge. Succeeding with Dr. R takes time and dedication.
I was terrified going into this class due to the things I'd heard, but Dr Rochlin is very sweet, and the the class is super manageable if you keep up with the lectures every week. Grades are based off weekly short quizzes in the discussion section, 4 exams, and participation. Very interesting class, you get to learn a lot.Make sure to stay on track
DON"T take his class! His exam are supposedly soley based of the lecture slides but he always comes up with the most confusing, vauge, way to ask questions. Whenever I email him, he says he can only answer my questions in office hours. No SI, no practice problems, unhelpful emails. Average exam scores: Exam 1: 55, Exam 2: 60, Exam 3: 57
pain and suffering. i am learning quite a lot and have gotten quite good at studying and keeping up with things. 1 for how painful this class is, 5 for much ive learned. tests are out of at least 120 points, u can lose 20 points and get 100%. but will u earn the points? exams are only based off lectures, which are recorded. nice and funny.
Is very passionate about everything he teaches and wants his students to do well. He records all of his lectures which is nice. However, tests are extremely hard and not worth the struggle. Questions are vaguely worded and based on interpretation of lecture cotent. Avoid if you can.
This class is difficult in terms of topics and Dr. Rochlin records the lectures for acessablity outside of class. The questions on the tests are difficult and made for you to expand on the lessons. I would try to take a different professor, this class is not worth the stress. Quizzes are weekly and grade is based on 4 tests.
For the amount of (very difficult) material this class has, Dr. R's lectures made it all the more confusing. It was hard to keep up with what was going on with whatever and where. I could have taken a class on how to build a rocket and understood better than whatever is going on here. And every exam has made me nearly black out on the spot.
The class really had me fooled until I've seen the first exam and quite literally fell to my knees and wept in front of the lake. Thank god the professor only gave us some of his slides, with basically just pictures on them, and made the questions so difficult to comprehend, 90% of time I was tested for the ability to understand what's being asked
This is my 2nd time taking this class and I have never felt more disappointed in myself. I feel as if everything I did leading up to get to this capstone was for nothing, well, because I can't even pass this capstone. Why is a "capstone" here to make students feel worthless and consumed to a point that we can't focus on any other class but this?
Legit hate this class so much, I'm dedicating so much time and effort but it isn't showing. Switch your major if you don't want your GPA to tank, I wake up every day and wish I switched mine. This class is unreasonably difficult, there is a lack of direction, and the tests are unfairly hard. He's a nice guy, but this class is not worth it!
If you don't feel like switching your major and are planning on taking this class during senior year, the best advice I could give that I wish someone had given me is 1.) take it fall of senior year (so you can enjoy your last semester 2.) take it in combination with a bunch of core. This class has made my last semester miserable. Hope this helps!
This is by far the most soul sucking class i've ever taken at Loyola! This man should not be teaching this class, there are times when he doesn't even understand the material himself. He is not very helpful, when students ask for help he just tells them to look at the recordings. He doesn't know how to explain things and is very condescending.
Don't take this class - it isnt worth the horrible semester it will give you. Although it isn't impossible to succeed in this class, it feels impossible. my mental health is wrecked because of this class. I have never been as depressed and disappointed in myself as I have been. Nothing i do seems like it's enough and it's so mentally difficult.
The material is super interesting, but the exams are way broader than expected. You need a perfect understanding of everything, and there's not much structured help for prep. Lectures are detailed, but exams are brutal. Be ready to teach yourself a lot to succeed. Also, try to take it in the fall and not the spring! And balance this class w/ core.
This class is not impossible. The content discussed in this class is some of the best Loyola has to offer for Neuroscience majors. Be prepared to review and not just memorize but also taking time to understand what you're learning. There are built in curves for Exams and Quizzes. Make your own questions/stories with the content and you will be good
If you think you'll pass this class and you love the topic then it might be worth it, but otherwise this class/prof is crazy hard. Rochlin definitely makes you a better student and prepares you for the future, but possibly/probably at the cost of your happiness for the semester. Take it in the fall and balance it w core if you can.
Terrible Professor. I'm not sure how he got a job in teaching. The grading breakdown for this course is unfair. He teaches this course to us like we are grad students. I'm not sure why they want students to take this course just to fail out. Switch your major, cause this class ain't worth it. They should reassess the difficulty of the course.
He is the worst. Not sure how he became department head. His grading scale makes no sense. If you ask he a question he doesn't like he will just stare at you and ignore it. Honestly he should be reported to the dean at this point.
The fact that this class is so much challenging than the other neuroscience capstone makes no sense. You literally don't think critically about the subject. It's pure memorization. There is a reason most ppl fail. The prof is really picky with his grading. He doesn't even know what he's talking about sometimes and still expects us to know.
Yeah, he is THE worst. He so picky when it comes to grading it is frustrating. You could literally get one word switched up, and he'll take away your points for it. It just goes to show why people fail even though there is a crazy curve.
i don't think i've ever worked harder for a class but makes sense since its a capstone. not sure why this capstone is so much harder than b/c neuro. grades on mainly exams/quizzes. i hated that we had quizzes the day before the exam too. dr.rochlin is a great guy but i think he needs to consider that this class is for undergrads, not grad students.
the course content is very difficult so you have to keep up with it, don't slack because your grade will suffer. there's quizzes every week, even the week of the exam. he's a good professor but sometimes, he doesn't know how to answer questions.
He's very picky about wording, but he really does help build your critical thinking skills. Definitely stay on top of things, because it's easy to fall behind trust me. He can seem a bit condescending sometimes, but he will explain concepts to you until they click. He's a nice guy overall, just a tough grader.
He has become both my least and favorite professor I have had at Loyola. He records all of the lectures so you can look back on them and posts all the slideshows. His class is very hard on the basis that he wants you to not be able to just spit information out but to be able to apply it. You have to know the info inside out. Lots of extra credit op
If I had to choose between taking this class and getting into a car accident I would choose the car accident. He is the worst professor, cannot explain anything normally. Everything has to be in his own wording for tests. Very clearly has UNREALISTIC expectations. If I knew he existed I would have changed my major or school.
This class will be hard !!! Thankfully he curves and let us retake the first exam, so it really boosted my grade, however, you need to study on your own and I recommend going to lectures. It will be hard to get the hang of studying, but it is double. Additionally, Rochlin is heavily available always, so if you have a question he answers fast.
