BEST TEACHER EVER!
He is a funny little man, but is very unorganized. One on one he is good, but not easy to follow in lecture. You gotta work and really put your full effort in to get an A
he's a nice guy but lectures are rather boring. you don't really have to pay attention in lecture if you plan to go through the book yourself. or you could listen to his disorganized presentation and not read the book. either way, very interesting class
He is a really great prof. Didn't read the book at all, doesn't give notes, though, you have to write down what you think you need...but if you write a lot of notes, anyway...just review the coursebook b4 the test, and do the practice SI exams
Good teacher, knows his s**t, lectures are pretty boring, buy the book, Make sure you buy the coarse reference book, has all notes and stuff you need to know in it.
The one and only problem I had with this class is the tests. I studied my butt off and nearly failed one test. other than that the quizes are easy and the lab is not that bad if you study.
one of the worst teachers i've had cmu. He is very disorganized and his lectures are boring. I asked him to go over my tests with me and he did not take out of his schedule. I would suggest taking HSC 214 with Tom Masterson, not with this guy.
I had Dr M for this class, but Saltarelli guest lectured a few times. He did pretty good, altough i prefer Dr Masterson and the professor. Dr M teaches Fall 214, while Saltarelli teaches Spring 214. Try to take it with Dr M in the Fall, you will learn way more.
Nice guy. Good class if you are interested... if not then it'll be hard. STUDY lots, take advantage of the easy quizes and you'll do fine.
FUN class! Loved the subject, but hard lecture. Study as much as you can and learn from my mistake! STUDY STUDY STUDY!!! Good teacher though!
Uhhh, is it over yet, this class never stops. Soooo much information! I would have given a better score if it had been a 4 credit course. He does not spend enough time per area. Most of the course is then reduced to a self learn format. Oh yeah and the tests suck balls.
Very nice guy. Seems to know what he's talking about most of the time... he's available if you need him, but his tests are really hard!
Very difficult test, had to take it twice but loved both times. He was very helpful with me, discussing what I could do to improve the following tests. Loved the class/subject so much I ended up tutoring in it. But the class lecture was early and boring, and he gave ALOT of information.

Difficult class by FAR, but a really knowledgeable professor. He knows what he is talking about, and is willing to set time aside from his schedule to better your education. Fun guy, tells a lot of stories so that you can relate it to yourself. Lecture exams are EXTREMELY difficult, but you can save yourself with lab.
GET ME OUT OF HERE!! This course needs to be over and fast! Tests are the hardest I've ever had and Salt's clarity is zero to none. Everything is basically Self-taught, you'll get a textbook at the beginning of the semester, so just start reading the whole thing and memorize it, then you'll do just fine! :/
This class is pretty much immpossible. He is a horrible teacher. He likes to talk about a subject for a long time and then say, but you don't need to know that stuff. He is a very confusing teacher. I feel very sorry for you if you have to take this class......
He is a good teacher, the notes are already written for you in your course pack! The lab is time consuming but very doable. Test are pretty easy 50 multiple choice. Does pick some tricky questions though. Study a little and you'll do fine.
Hes a great proff... gives clinical examples in every lecture so you can actually link what your learning to every day life. He is very helpful, and sometimes kinda funny. The tests are hard in the sense that there is so much info, but its not like they are trick ?s. Lab will suck up all your time, but its really worth while! TAKE THIS CLASS
This class is not very hard. You do have to study for tests though. Saltarelli is a good prof. He's funny and really wants to get the information across to his students. He'll spend extra time to help you out. He is a tad bit scattered though.
It's not that he's a bad teacher, cause he isn't...the material is just a LOT to take in. Don't take any other hard classes if you take this. Nearly 90% of your time WILL be dedicated to studyin for this class. **Shara is a great lab instructor**
this class is difficult, not gonna lie about that one. salterelli is a great teacher though. i took this class twice, the first time with Masterson was much harder. salterelli is much more helpful, clear, and won't give you trick questions. take him but be prepared for the ride, it's a tough class!!! good luck!!!
This class was hard, but intersting. He is a great teacher and explains things well. Gives you examples with all the information that he has to give you, but it is very helpful. Doesn't make you read the chapters, unless you want to. Take it with him and you will enjoy it.
This class is extremely time consuming. Dr.Saltarelli is always willing to help you outside of class, which is really nice. The material is hard, lecture is way difficult, and the tests are extremely specfic. Lab will save you though!
Of course anatomy is tough and very time consuming, but Dr. Salt is a very good professor to have for it. I recommend going to class every day (although many don't)- he explains everything that is in the outlined notes that you get. S.I. sessions are really helpful- and before each test just make the "course objectives" into a study guide.
Anatomy is a tough class!! But if you must take it, Salt is a great professor. He explains everything to his fullest and relates material to real life. This guy knows his stuff and loves anatomy. Lecture exams are hard though. You need to study.
I've always loved anatomy. Dr. Salt makes it even better. He's an awesome professor, and he knows his stuff. If he doesn't know something, he'll admit it instead of trying to BS his way through it like some professors do. Go to lecture and lab every class, cause if you skip you'd regret it, and study for exams as well. SI is also very helpful.
It's a difficult Class but he makes lecture enjoyable
Salt. is a guy who everybody loves. This class is all about memorization. Start studying for lecture tests like a week before the test, and like 5 days before lab tests. Make sure to go to the open lab periods before the lab tests. I did all this an got an A.
He's a funny man, likes to crack jokes. But is very unclear in lecture, he jumps around a lot. Lecture exams will kill your grade. Lab exams are fairly easy if you study. He knows his stuff, but expects everyone to know it like he does. LOTS OF MATERIAL and very time consuming. Great class, but very hard.
This class is not as difficult as I thought it would be. Make sure to go to all the labs, lectures, and try to attend SI. My lecture test grade went from 79 to 95 after attending these. Don't fall behind in your studies and you should do fine!
Explains things well. Teaches the subject kind of fast. Will correct himself if he is wrong and will admit to this. Has tons of stories for everything about anatomy. Overall not a bad teacher.
I was really nervous for this class, but I loved it. Make sure you do not fall behind with your study guides, readings, and lab. I highly recommend attending the SI sessions. They are very helpful!
He is a good teacher, but his course is hard! Open Lab is a big help!
Dr. Salt is the sweetest!!
Salt is a really good prof. He explains everything you need to know for the exam, but he isn't very accessible due to the class size. The exams are not too bad as long as you put the study time in. The Lab is really easy. All you have to do is go to lab, learn the material, get the free points and then study for the biweekly quiz. Piece of cake.
This class isnt too hard as long as you study. Dr. Salt is by far my favorite teacher at CMU so far. He know his stuff and he teaches you how to teach yourself which is a lot of help in this class.
He expects a lot from his students, but he is just preparing us for graduate school. I wouldn't take this class if you don't need to because it requires a huge time commitment, but if you need this class, Dr. Salt is definitely the best professor.
Dr. Salt is friendly and has good stories that pertain to Anatomy. He admits when he is wrong, and usually throws out a few questions on the exams. Study constantly for lab and be on top of the lecture material too. He is very passionate about anatomy, and when he makes an appearance in lab, you can learn a ton from him in one lab class.
STUDY STUDY STUDY!!! If you take this class, plan on at least 2 to 3 study hours a day. Passable if you put in the time. Lab and lecture are both really tough, but Salt is a relatively easy guy to listen to. If interested in Anatomy it can be a fun class. Also, always do online quizzes, and spend alot of time in open lab. It can save your grade.
he teaches not reads, if you dont understand then ask questions or go to office hours
Salt is a great teacher. The class is NOT difficult as long as you put in the time to study before lecture and lab exams. The lecture exams are definitely not as hard as people make them out to be and if you attend open lab, you will do just fine on the practicals. You learn a ton in this class and it really is interesting.
He wasn't a very good teacher. Constantly went of topic to tell stories that weren't related to the topic. Put me to sleep every time I went to class. His tests were rather difficult but he did throw questions away on every exam because he taught the material wrong in class. Found himself correcting his mistakes in every class.
Dr. Salt is a wonderful professor! His class is a little difficult but only because it is time consuming. Lectures are very interesting and he has great examples and stories to keep your attention. You definitely need to attend open lab a couple times a week and start studying for the lecture exams about a week beforehand.
Dr. Salt is awesome! The class isnt hard, its just a lot of material. Be prepared to go to open lab at least twice a week and try to sit in the front during lecture so won't fall asleep and miss important information. The material is really inrestesting!! just make sure you study a week in advance and you'll get an A!! It's really not that bad!!
Dr. Salt was an alright teacher. His lectures could get quite boring and repetitive. If you studied a ton and went to open lab several times a week you would do fine in the class. aka give up everything and study for anatomy and you will pass.
Dr. Salt is a pretty good teacher. He knows his stuff, you can't argue with that. The class itself though is very difficult. I recommend taking a light load when you take this calss. You have to study for at least 5 days prior to the exams for multiple hours. Go to open lab because an A in lab will def help your grade immensly. Just STUDY ALOT!
Dr. Salt is a great teacher, but lecture exams are very difficult!! STUDY STUDY STUDY!! Go to SI sessions, A LOT. The lab is easy, you just have to study. He's a great teacher that knows a lot about the subject :)
Very Hard Class! Hardest offered at CMU besides Zoology. Dr Salt is the greatest man for the job though!!! He is a very special professor who knows his stuff! Study a lot for this class! Lab FInal exam is hard because the GA's mark all of the bodies poorly, but the class is very fun and good luck!
Definitely NOT anywhere near the hardest class at CMU. It just takes some extra studying. It takes a lot of effort, but not near as hard as they say.
Great teacher. The class is a lot of work, but I learned a ton. Dr. Salt is a very helpful and entertaining professor. He keeps it interesting.
VERY HARD CLASS! you better prepare to study for hours a night because that is the only way you will be able to memorize everything they expect of you! Goodbye social life..HELLLO ANATOMY!
One of the best classes I've ever taken. Dr. Salt makes it very interesting and will help you until understand everything. He definitely is more passionate about this than anatomy. He also gives you the benefit of the doubt; I missed two quizzes and he gave me almost full credit for them. Highly recommend.
Always helpful..... Funny old man!!!! :)
The Honors section of Human Anatomy was MUCH easier than the regular class. Salt gave the ten of us much more attention and he generally gives test questions up for discussion if there are discrepancies. He can get side tracked with his own anecdotes, but he's very helpful.
The material is not that hard but there is a ton of it. The guy knows his stuff really well but be ready to study a lot on your own because there is so much you cover. Go to SI and open lab as much as you can because you'll need it believe me. Tests and quizzes have a lot of material. You gotta commit if you want an A.
The guy knows his stuff when it comes to anatomy. The class is tough and requires a lot of work! I got an A but it took hours and hours of studying to do it! def not a walk in the park. GO TO SI AND OPEN LAB. lecture is very hard so dedicate yourself to getting an A on everything in lab to do well in the class.
Difficult class, but it is possible to get an A. Lab is mandatory, don't miss it. He uploads lectures to blackboard and you can listen to them. A lot of the test questions came from the back of the chapter questions, and you can get those on Notehall, so it makes the class a bit easier.
He's a cool guy, just not a very good professor at all. Lectures are extremely hard to listen to, and he doesn't give study guides or anything for exams. And exams are HARD! But he definitely knows the material inside and out. I studied for hours and hours and still got C's on the exams, so best of luck! Some people did well, though.
Salt is a really cool guy who knows his stuff. The honors version of this course was great because you were given individual attention in a class of 20, rather than a class of 200. Be warned, this class is difficult and required much studying. Go to open lab, often, and review the power points and keep reviewing after an exam for the final.
Salt definitely knows the material but he is a TERRIBLE professor. You really have to know how to teach yourself. Lecture is useless because he doesn't teach. Best of luck!
Worst professor ever. Doesn't care about his students and goes off topic in lecture a lot. Lab is the only thing that helps students pass. Lecture is not mandatory and he records his lectures and posts them on BB. Exams are impossible and about 30% of the class fails and 10% get an A. Take at your own risk!
This guy.......let's just say if you make the horrible choice to take anatomy with Salt, have fun putting the rest of your life on the backburner. You're gonna need all the time in the world to even come close to doing decent in his class. Wouldn't recommend him to the brightest science student at CMU. Wait to take it with a different professor.
I thought Dr. Salt was awesome. The course was a lot of work, but that is to be expected. If you are determined to get an A, it is very easy to do. I'm so glad I took this class with him! He really knows his stuff, and if you go to his office hours he really invests in you. I would take this class again with him!
Salt is awesome! I won't lie to you, anatomy is a really tough class, but if you go to open lab, attend SI, and make it to class, it's not too hard to get an A. You NEED to put effort into this class. Lab can save your grade, so focus on knowing the bodies and models! AMAZING CLASS! I loved it, definitely recommend him :)
Salt makes this a very difficult class. You literally have to teach yourself 100% of the material. It is very unclear on what is going to be on the exams… which are very difficult. That being said, I still managed to get an A. Simply putting in the time and doing well in lab will get you an overall good grade. Have fun.
Dr. Salt is amazing! HSC 308 with him has been one of my favorite classes I have taken here at CMU. He applies real life situations to what you are learning. He provides study guides for each chapter and hints for each exam. Always willing to help. Tests can be difficult but he usually throws out bad questions. Take w/ Salt and Enjoy!
Salt was a good instructor overall. His lectures were sometimes confusing but he always gave students the benefit of the doubt on exam. Gives the students points back after the exams. Hard to get ahold of him though.
Lab was really easy. You have a quiz every class period but if you study you'll do fine. He records all the lectures so you don't have to attend class. Make sure you know your stuff for the exams because he makes you learn everything on your own and his multiple choice is "all of the above, none of the above, two of the above, etc."
If you attend class and study very hard you will receive an A. His exams are tricky and you have to know all of the material to do well. Studying every day is the key to a good grade in this class!
Basically the work you put in will reflect your grade, most people find his lectures pointless, and if you do then you MUST keep up with the outlines in the lab book. He moves VERY fast in lecture so DO NOT WAIT TO FILL IN OUTLINES, stay on top of them and you'll do fine! Study hard, go to all the SI's cause those help a ton. Just stay ahead!
Lectures did not help. Best advised for all student athletes not to take this class during your competition season. The lecture book and a reliable study group are your best friends.
This class grade is pretty much directly related to the study time and effort put in. You will have to definitely set a lot of time outside of class to do well in lecture and lab. Open lab and SI sessions are a MUST unlike many other classes, if you want to succeed. An A is possible, but its hard work! Be Dr. Salt's friend!
For someone who is very interested in researching the best methods of teaching, he is not a very good teacher. It was almost impossible to take notes in the "study guide" you have to buy. You have to study a lot, but he does offer quite a bit of extra credit. If you make this class your top priority, you can get an A.
The class flies by It is a ton of information and really hard memorization. Must have a lot of time to put into it.
Be careful when e-mailing him. He replies to e-mails but make sure you send it to the right person, his son used to go here as well. The subject itself is interesting, but he has a tendency to ramble. Go to class even though it drags. Classes are posted online in case you missed, but you do need to watch it.
The lab manual has all of his power points in it so you don't have to take notes. However, this makes it confusing because he only reads his power points and that's it. He does offer lots of extra credit so if you try and pay attention, you should do alright.
Dr. Salt means well, and if you are going into exercise science he'll love you. However, he is not very helpful beyond that. His tests are all trick questions so you have to know the material like you have have M.D degree otherwise you won't do well. You have to study every single day in order to do well in both lab and lecture.
He gets off topic a lot during lecture and it makes it hard to focus. But he does go over pretty much everything that will be on the exams in class, so i highly recommend going to lecture every time or you will spend even more time looking up the things you missed. I love anatomy, so it made it easy, but for those who don't, good luck!
Anatomy is the most time consuming class I've ever taken. Dr. Salt is one of a kind. He is super knowledgable and a cool guy, but literally every single question on his exams are a trick question (ex: A, B, Cor D none of above, or E more than one of the above). Since the class is so big, it's hard to get help from him. You're on your own.
First off, I ABSOLUTLEY LOVE Dr. Salt. I also took the Honors section, which made it a lot easier for me to get to know him. He's the hilarious grandpa that we all wish we had! In no way can a bad grade be blamed on him because it's all on your own. If you don't study and go to open lab, you probably won't do as well as you'd like. Take Honors.
This class is impossible. I highly doubt the average grade for this class is an A- seeing as I know numerous people that have had to retake this class. I, myself, struggled tremendously in this class. This is not an easy 200 level course. I spend at least 5 hours a night on the work and there are quizzes/tests at least once a week. Dont fail these.
Panaptos + Labs. Watch them and draw diagrams. It will help with lab too. You aren't required to be smart, just put the work in to know the locations REALLY WELL. WATCH THE PANAPTOS (I didn't and got a C on the first test) and pair with the book because it's all in there. Tests can be difficult, but again, it's all the lab book + Panaptos.
Dr. Salt is an absolutely amazing professor if you give him a chance. He is hilarious too. The class is hard, but if you are willing to work for your grade, you will be just fine. GO TO SI SESSIONS, GO TO OPEN LAB!!! This is the reason I got an A in the class. All of the information you need for his exams are in his panapto's and his lab manual
I love Bill! Lab was tough, and 50% of your grade, but if you do well in it, it will save you! Lecture exams were fairly easy if you did the "objective" study guides that are in your lab manual. Overall enjoyable class, but I wouldn't want to do all the work over again!! :)
If you try your best in this class, it's hard not to fail. There are a ton of ways to get extra points, which add up. His exams are straight forward, and it's a very easy class to pass. Show up, and get an A. Anatomy doesn't change - so don't get the latest version of the anatomy book. You will hardly use it.
Not sure what all the complaints are for. This class is way easier than people make it out to be. Tons of opportunity to get extra credit on lab exams, and on lecture exams. By the end of it, I didn't have to worry about the final, because of how many extra points that were accumulated. go to open lab and you'll do just fine. seriously.
This class is not as hard as people make it out to be. It is more than possible to get an A. I had so many extra points by the end of the semester that I only had to get a 52% on the final exam. You just have to put in the work. It will pay off!! Don't let anyone scare you. The exams are easy if you study the lab manual!
Dr. Salt is a great guy! Talks too much about retirement, so talk him while he's still a professor! Expect a very large workload, a lot of memorization. The lab final was over 1300 terms I believe, so don't get caught behind. A TON of extra credit, easy to get an A.
Worst professor I have ever had at CMU. Lectures are useless, just read the book.
The format of the class changed so other than the lab extra credit points that were possible, there was literally only 10 additional extra credit points out of the 1,300+ points total, unlike all of the other comments say. Lecture is a repeat of videos you watch out of class and he is very unorganized. RECOMMEND THIS BEING YOUR TOP PRIORITY CLASS!!
Hands down the best professor I've had at CMU. Very good to get ahold of and debate with. Open to interpretation of questions and answers and very good at explaining anatomy in a hands on, challenging and encouraging fashion.
This class is not hard at all. It's a lot of work, but not hard as long as you make it a priority. There's a good amount of extra credit, so that helps. Dr. Salt is hilarious and doesn't try to make this class tricky. It's just a LOT of work!! Don't let the negative reviews scare you. Study, go to open lab, and SI, and you will get an A
Awesome professor who really knows his stuff. Tough material but if you put in the necessary work to learn it, you'll find its not as difficult as people make it sound. Go to SI for lecture, and go to the open lab for the lab section. Both are extremely helpful. Dr. Salt is an awesome professor. Take him if you get the chance.
Difficult class but not hard as long as you put in the necessary time for studying. Dr. Salt is kind of a jerk but he teaches the material well enough. Panoptos are pretty pointless if you pay attention in lecture.
Honestly, would've loved the class without him as the prof. His online lectures are pointless and in class he rambles and repeats most of it. His exams are tough since he uses A-C to give choices, then D and E are options such as "none of the above, A and C, A and B, etc. He does that for pretty much every question on the exam. Lab isn't bad at all
Dr. Salt is pretty funny. This class is time consuming! I thought ponoptos were helpful to view before exams. His exams are tricky because there are many options. Lab is a lot of memorization. (Sometimes 80+ terms in 2 days). Open lab is helpful! Overall, just be prepared that this is a difficult class that requires a lot of studying.
Lots of studying, but none of it is hard - there's just A LOT, so be sure you have the time to take the class. The Class Manual is your life-line for lecture. Add important points he says in class to the manual, don't bring a separate notebook, there's no point. The key to doing well in lab is to use the power-points and to go to open lab.
Dr. Salt is by far the best professor at CMU. He wants to see all of his students succeed, and he is willing to take time out of his day to ensure it. Anatomy can be intimidating, but he makes you feel so much better about the topic. The class is not an easy A, you just have to study. I would take this class over 100 times if he was the professor.
Dr Salt is by far the best professor I have had yet at CMU. He is passionate about the subject matter, &works very hard to make sure students are on the same page& prepared before testing them. If you watch his panaptos, often times extra credit or regular test questions are hidden throughout them. Anatomy is difficult, he makes it better. TAKE HIM
This class in very challenging. Take this class seriously and wanting to learn the material is very important. This class sets your HP careers basis. Come to class, do the homework, get ready for a very challenging lab, and youll be fine. GO TO OPEN LAB AND DO THE LEARNSMART ASSIGNMENTS/LAB OBJECTIVES BEFORE CLASS youll do 10x better. Salt is great
I hate the way dr salt runs his lectures the flipped classroom style makes going to lecture feel pointless the only part of class that feels necessary are the labs and those are much too fast paced. when going to lecture I felt like I was wasting my time. sadly there are no other profs for hsc214 at cmu or I would NOT take him again
Dr. Salt is an AMAZING professor! Anatomy is very difficult and there is definitely a lot of work and memorization for the labs. Dr. Salt's panoptos are packed with EVERYTHING you need to know for lecture exams. The actual lecture is him just going over any questions people have or what concepts are confusing. If you don't need 214, don't take it.
So much studying. But he goes over everything in class you need to know for lecture, and there are also Panopto videos online, which is mostly all covered in lecture. He's funny and gives good examples in class. Go to the SI sessions. They can help. Lecture also didn't always match up with lab.
This is a flipped classroom. expect to spend much of your time learning on your own before going to lecture. DO UR BEST IN THE BEGINNING! This is when the content is easiest. For lab, please attend open lab regularly and memorize all of the powerpoint, it will really help your grade. The exams are hard but if you follow his hints you will get an A.
Definitely liked Dr. Salt, he likes hands on learning, really wants his students to succeed. Always available for help, does a flipped classroom with lecture videos, but it actually really helped me for his exams. The labs pretty easy but it will take up a lot of your time.
Lab is actually easier for me and I somewhat enjoy it. Lots to memorize but if you study, you will do good. I personally do not enjoy the lecture portion of the class. I hate how we move around in the study guide. Wish the chapters were in order of what we are learning. Lectures seem pointless and are very boring.
Dr. Salt is an AMAZING professor the material is just super hard. I love love love lab. It is so much fun and that is honestly the only reason my grade is so high. The tests are very hard, but Dr. Salt does everything he can to help prepare you. He cares for his students a lot, but you have to work for your grade.
Dr. Salt is one of the most caring professors Ive had at CMU. I met with him halfway though the semester and he helped me improve to raise my grade significantly by the end. Lectures arent particularly useful, Id focus more on the panoptos. The only downside is that this class is EXTREMELY memorization heavy.
Salt genuinely cares for his students and is an overall great professor. However, this class is hard. So, here is some advice - focus on lab! The more you understand lab, the more you will understand lecture. My exam average for lecture was a C+ and for lab an A. For me, the panoptos were not thorough enough so I read the book - this helped greatly
The lecture is completely different than lab. They should be separate classes from one another by the way it is taught. I hate the method he uses to teach, where we teach ourselves then come to lecture and go over questions. You are graded on attendance largely. He is also not understanding at all about the fact life happens. Wont take him again.
Dr. Salt is the best! 512 is a cadaver dissection lab for students pursuing pre-professional degrees, and it was great practice before heading to PT school. It helps you overcome that anxiety/fear of working with human donors before grad school. He's also super knowledgeable and will talk anatomy/physiology with you all day. I highly recommend!
I loved Salt and the way class was set up was engaging. It is still difficult because it is human anatomy but he wants to make sure you understand the material. After tests he would go over them and if there were any ones that people thought were confusing he'd clarify and sometimes award points if he felt like it was not clear.
