Funny, challenging, opinionated, very intelligent... makes class interesting

This man is brilliant! I really enjoyed this class. There were often debates in class, making things lively and interesting. However, don't take his classes if you like to skip class. His tests are based entirely off lecture.

It you wear your heart on you sleeve avoid this class, but if you want knowlegde from an intelligent instructor take him.

This man is brilliant. He teaches you things that will prepare you for the real world. The only reason people think he is one sided is because he speaks the truth and makes you see things you might not want to see

Extremely smart man especially with Chicago knowledge. Wasted 60 bucks on a book that was never opened because everything is based on lecture. 1 test and 1 paper was the entire grade, but if you do well on those youre set.

He's pretty much obsessed with his achievements will talk about current events for 4 out of 10 weeks. Read the newspaper instead of books. Then the other 6 weeks about the subject and is very easy w/ paper grades. Do what HE asks NOT what you think of.

This guy made me think of thigs I would have never thought of. He's intimidating at first, but a cool guy. He does pick favorites though, especially if you talk a lot in class. Take notes and research your papers early.

Very interesting teacher and class. I learned a lot from the lectures but I didn't open the books. As long as you pay attention and take good notes from the lectures, you should be fine.

This man is wonderful. He's a hard, fair professor from the upper-tier schools, and he treats his students like they are in upper-tier schools. Take his class if you want to really learn, not if you want a blow-off class.

He is a harda**, but you learn serious topics with different perspectives that you may have not had before, especially if you have lived a sheltered life (i.e. rich, suburban kids).Take If you would like to get a new perspective on life and not be babied.

THIS MAN IS THE SHI*...HE KNOWS HOW TO CHALLENGE A PERSON AND GET THE WHOLE CLASS EDUCATIONALLY INVOLVED IN CLASS DISCUSSION ABOUT RACE AND THE WORLD, NOT JUST AMERICA...TAKE THIS CLASS!!!

Dr. Sampson is challanging and forces you to think about real words issue that need to be dealt with. He treats you like the adult you should be. He asks tough questions to push you, not to be a jerk. I believe he truly wants you to learn. I would take him over and over again.

He is a really great professor, he really makes you think and see things differently. He may be hard but he's fair.

Sampson is dope, he treats you like a grown up and not a little kid, hes very straight forward and the only people who dont like him are people who want to be babied or are lazy. Great professor

Sampson is great. And he's a jerk. Sure, he focuses on race and education, but hey. No sense in ignoring the elephant in the living room. I didn't mind the white-girl verbal beat-down. He never attacked me as a person, just told it like it is. I appreciated that. Get tough and take the class.

Great teacher. Tells things how they are and keeps it real. Don't do the readings they don't help.Tough grader, but he is preparing u for the world.he's not **** like people say.he just tells the racism that really exists. one of my best professors ever at depaul.Very funny. intresting.challenging

Sampson is the **** and the best asset at DePaul.Yes, hes hella intimidating,but if you have any real interest in public policy you better listen up and grow some balls cause he tells it like it is, like it or not. show him interest and respect and show up to class and youll learn tons. no laziness

He challenges you to grow and learn but beneath tough exterior he truly cares for his students. If you are a real person or desire to become one listen to my man. If u want to want to remain sheltered please don't burgle my man's time. Oh, also dude cooks crab cakes and dude is hilarious. Thank you.

Dr. Sampson is a good professor. He is imtiminating and have a huge ego, but who can blame him when he displays great knowledge about social issues. If you are in this class to slack off, this is definantly not the class to be in. He is overall a great professor and you will learn in his class.

Sampson is a good professor, and for all of you sad case for students who say that he was bad maybe you shouldn't be in college. You only say he was hard because he didn't respect you if you didn't respect yourself. I say take this class if you want to see your money pay off and your ready to work

Prof. Sampson is what a Depaul Professor aspires to. He is demanding of his students because he knows what the real world is going to demand. Sampson doesn't give you the answer. HE MAKES YOU THINK. He wants to see you figure it out for yourself. If students didn't go into the class thinking they knew more, maybe they'd see that. Come to Learn!!

Professor Sampson is something that I think everyone can respect, honest. He is the most honest and intelligent prof I've had, he doesn't sugarcoat anything just tells you like it is. I think any student if they're smart will take his class because its the closest thing to the real world I've been exposed to while at school.

Makes u think and I mean critically think ...ol skool prof pushes you to your limits for your own good..expands ur mind and forces u to step out of your comfort zone and confront questions ...take him u wont regret it

Sampson is not a lenient professor. He expects his students to work hard for their grades. Take all the notes you can and read all the chapters he assigns. His tests reflect everything he lectures on and he expects you to remember most of it. If you don't think or want to work hard for a B drop this class. This is just the type of professor he is.

Sampson...is NOT biased based on race, he is biased based on one's ability to think not just memorize material. He really wants people to leave his class able to think about the magnitude of social problems not just what you read in the text.

LOVE HIM!! He's great! He wants his students to have critical thinking abilities. The texts are easy,too. No quizes only lectures. Cannot be a wallflower must talk in class if you do your life will be easier. I must agree that for learning experience unsteady when centers don't help him out so don't blame him for that its the centers fault not his.

sampson is very intelligent & experienced, some of the neg comments are true, but for the most part i think he has a misunderstood sense of humor, u dont have to read the books but DO NOT miss class, teaches like grad skool & u actually learn useful info unlike some other courses here at depaul

I think that many students at DePaul just don't understand Dr. Sampson's way of teaching. He may seem tough but I believe that he is one of the most venerable professors at DePaul. If you are looking for an intellectually stimulating and socially informative class then I would recomend any of Dr. Sampson's classes.

If you take really good notes, go to class and study the main topics, you should be fine.I know he loves to be complimented so go ahead and give back his own ideas, not the best thing to say about a teacher but its true.You CAN learn from him, it might just not be in the way you want to.

Previous comments at the professor's narrowmindedness obviously have their own preconceptions of the issues being discussed. They do not allow themselves to critically examine their own thought process. His teaching style is unorthodox with tangents and personal, put-on-the-spot questions, but discourse is necessary in discussion of social issues

Class is 4 learning beyond a book. His truth can b awkward, but NECESSARY in order to grasp the material. Ok kiddies, ur in college,time to think of all sides of race&class in the context of PUB policy. Acts hard, but there is some wiggle room for serious students.Wk load wasn’t bad,just wants to see student show effort.TAKE GOOD NOTES!

Dr. Sampson is amazing. If you want an easy class, don't take any he teaches. If you don't plan to attend every class, don't take him. But if you plan to learn, think critically, challenge, and be challenged, he is a GREAT professor. He does choose favorites, yes, but his favorites are the students who attend class and contribute to conversation

Sampson is a Baller. Take him if you want to learn....Hes got awesome lectures.

Great teacher and pretty funny!He cares about his students. I learned aloooot. You better take notes in his class. He tells you off in front of everyone if you don't take notes.

The greatest professor I have ever had! You just have to be serious about what you are learning or he'll call you out on it. I recommend ALL of his classes as I have taken multiple of them. He can come off as arrogant but he definitely earned the right. Honestly, if you want to get your money's worth for your tuition take his classes.

I took Professor Sampson as a Freshman and he specifically told me to drop the class. I'm stubborn so I stuck with it and really learned a lot. No lie he's a tough grader and teacher. But if you really want to get your moneys worth, take him! :)

Extremely knowledgeable professor, wrote several books and has Ph.D and formerly taught at Northwestern University. He is very strict when it comes to academics and teaches his Underclassmen classes like a Graduate School level classes. Extremely funny and witty though. Has very liberal bias, a problem for some. Likes hard workers and note takers.

Professor Sampson does talk a lot about Black and Latino issues. I feel it is his field and I feel it is appropriate. He get off subject often, but the things that he digress about are important social issues. If you do not like to be confronted with racial issues you should not take his class, then again you should not be in public policy either.

I LOVE Sampson's classes! He IS very tough & expects you, as a somewhat intellectual college student, to actually try. There really isn't much reading, but you should do it. He might be tough but he has experience in the field. As long as you TRY & ask questions, he'll grade you fairly. & don't argue with him! You'll always lose! But he's great!

Professor Sampson is old school, but he is a huge source of information. Although disagreeing with conservative arguments, gave one of the most thorough understandings of it, despite other reviewer, and no, doesn't pick favorites on class or race. Really amazing and enlightening, takes care of his students. Wouldn't take if not public policy major.
