He is an awesome teacher! He is always very helpful and willing to take time in class to explain any confusions with students.
good guy, funny jokes...corny but funny. he helps math but knows we are just trying to get through it. hard tests. 4 hours is not uncommon to study for 1 test. suggest nightly study group. i guess would take again maybe
He's a good teacher. He says the weirdest thing but it's funny. He'll help you if you ask, if you do your homework you pretty much get the points. tests are kind of hard but you get to use a formula sheet so that's nice. overall good guy.
Funny little elf of a man. Comes to class with a coffee mug every day, grinning from ear to ear. Real Teacher! Actually taught in highschool unlike many professors. Bar none, one of the best teachers in Stats.
This guy is awesome!! One of the best math teachers I have ever had in my life. Very helpful and funny. Lets you use a formula sheet on exams. Genuine character..loves teaching. Take him for Stats.
Excellent teacher! Tough material as math should be, but he did a fantastic job helping us through it.
Before going into this I was really dreading taking stats, but Mr. Schilla made it an enjoyable class.Very funny, easy going guy.Clear on his expectations and very good at explaining questions and going over homework.Pretty easy exams.I recommend him if you take stats!~but I think he's retiring =(
Schilla is an amazing teacher. If you come to class and pay attention you'll understand the material. Don't hesitate at asking questions because he is very good at clarifying topics and making them understandable. I highly recommend him for anyone especially if Math isn't your thing.
anyone i've talked to says that he is the worst professor for stats...asks students if they know the way a problem is done during a new lecture...
Always went through the answers to homework problems and explained anything you wanted clarified. Wasn't concerned with lectures. He just wanted everyone to understand the material
best teacher you can take for stats. he listens, is willing to help, and makes corny jokes during class to help make the time pass. tests are average, formula sheet helps a lot. always willing to help. taught in highschool, knows his stuff.
Stats is tough, but he is very good at what he does. Very friendly and willing to go over something as many times as he needs to. Great sense of humor and just all around good guy. Take him if you can.
Took him my freshman year. Too hard and very bad teacher! Did a little cough every 4 seconds. That was reason enough not to like him. Very annoying! High school teacher who should have stayed there. Why are they letting him teach us? Good question!
He's a bit scatterbrained and forgets what he is doing sometimes which can get annoying in the middle of a problem. Stats is hard and he tries to help. The tests can be long if it takes you a while to figure out the problems (he tends to put a lot of questions on the tests). Pay attention to any assumptions for problems that he tells you. ON test!
Make sure to go to class and you will have no problem. He explains things thouroughly. Great teacher for a required class!
very nice guy..loves to make corny jokes in class however you cant help but laugh cuz theyre so stupid. He is sometimes unclear and doesnt really answer your question in ways that you can understand, but he is very willing to help you out. Really wants students to do well. All you have to do is go to class everyday & pay attention. Fairly easy
good teacher! explains material well! would recomend him!
Not going to lie - I went to class about two times a week and managed a B.... just go the week of tests... great guy
Easy for me, but i understand math pretty well. Tries to be funny sometimes, but ussually fails. The nicest guy though. Tests are pretty easy and he only makes you do odds for homework. Only grades certain problems. MAke sure you do all the work though. I reccommend him. He is good
Overall, the best stats teacher at UWL. Daily assignments, but they don't take too long. He used to teach HS and it's like a highschool class. Easy pass, B with a some work, A...better know what you're doing. Don't be afraid to utilize the tutors, they are helpful
Schilla tends to crack little jokes during class, not all making sense but funny nonetheless.
good teacher, like a high school class. easy to understand, cool dude kinda funny like most math teachers
Schilla keeps things simple and really explains how to do the problems. He was a high school teacher. so he is very patient and clear. He makes you turn in 5 random problems from the assignment, but doing the homework, which take maybe 10-20 min, helped me get an A.Easy grader on tests.Take him!
loved this guy. stats is hard, but i could learn from this guy. Very nice. says some cheesy jokes that nobody laughs at but I love that type of humor. really wants the class to do good. i recommend him
nice guy lets u keep all your quizzes and tests. get homework pts so its not bad and never have to do comp. projects. only do odd problems for homework and goes over them the next day
Very good teacher. Math was tough for me in high school, although stats is different, he made it easy to learn. If you don't understand something, he won't hesistate to explain. Great teacher. I would definitely recommend him.
i had never taken a stats class before and i can honestly say that schilla is an awesome teacher...he is such a cute old man and even though he can forget what he is doing at times he really understands what he is teaching and makes everything easy to understand...i would definitely reccommend schilla to anyone and everyone!
THE best math teacher i've ever had. take him. he's a funny dude, and tells you what you need to know.
The absolute BEST math teacher at La Crosse. I really don't like math, and still passed with flying colors because of this man. TAKE HIM!
THE BEST TEACHER AT LA CROSSE. TAKE HIM!
Definately the best math professor at UW-L... very funny guy... made fun of me all the time...loved him
He's an awesome guy! Absolutely hilarious. I struggled in stats, but really understood the way he taught it. Take him if possible.
Hard class, incredibly helpful teacher. He gives the equations for his tests the day before and WANTS students to come in and ask for help.
Schilla is a specTACular stats professor! He doesn't go too fast and sometimes we just spent the whole class time asking questions on homework and tests. He goes over EVERY STEP on homework if the class doesn't understand. He's a cute grandpa type teacher--funny guy.
Good teacher. Very helpful. I would defnitely recommend him to anyone for Stats. It is a hard class but he makes it very easy to understand.
Schilla is amazing. Absolutely hilarious and hands down the best math teacher. He's a cute little guy who always is making little jokes. Go to class, take the notes, do your homework, and study for the tests and you will do absolutely fine. Take his class, you'll love it.
Schilla is awesome! He tries to be funny and just cause its him, it is! Take him if you can. This is the only math class i haven't dreaded going to each day!
He is the hottest teacher I have had! He is amazing!
Explains any problem you want in detail and the tests and quizzes arent too bad if you study. overall, good teacher!
Bill Schilla is the man! Great teacher. everything is clear and he'll go over any problem you need help with. lets you use notecards on the tests and quizzes. Overall great prof. and wouldn't take stats with anyone else
Good Professor. Lets you use notecards with all the formulas on them for tests/quizzes. Go to class the day before the test/quiz because he goes through problems very similar to the test/quiz. Highly recommend if you are not very good at math.
I didn't take Stats in high school so I wasn't looking forward to this class, but Schilla was one of the best teachers I've ever had! He explains things very clearly and will take the time to work through problems until you understand. You get to use a note card for the quizzes and exams too, so that's a big help! Take him!
Good teacher with a sense of humor. TAKE
He is very approachable. He'll go over any homework problem if asked. You have problems to do in the book every night that are collected periodically, but it's very beneficial. I really enjoyed his class.
Awesome professor. He understands that not eveyone is a math major, so he give lots of examples and help for everything. He is great about helping out with questions outside of class. Even has review days in class before exams and quizzes. He will give you everything you need for an A, but you will have to do the homework and review the steps
He is a great teacher! Provides excellent examples and the tests are very similar to the problems in class. If you are not a math major, and want a good grade, take Schilla!
Take him. He's one of the best, most helpful professors i've had at UWL and easily the best for MTH 145 so ive heard.
Mr. Schilla is a great professor. His lectures are easy to understand and he always goes over any questions that people have about the homework. He is also pretty funny.
He does a great job teaching a terrible subject. Only reason I don't like coming to class is because it's Statistics. Other downfall is he goes pretty fast through material.
Mr. Schilla is an awesome professor. He makes class interesting and he makes sure that the information is understood before he moves on to the next topic.
Definitely did not teaching method. Grades homework based on completion rarely and bases almost all of your grade on 4 exams. Did not make you feel comfortable to ask questions in class. For those who have trouble with math, would not suggest.
Great teacher, knows what he's talking about and the tests are fairly easy if you go to class. I would suggest him.
He is very helpful and easy to understand. You get an equation sheet and are allowed to use it on tests. I highly recommend him.
Really good professor here, I didn't want to take stats but had to for a gen ed. Most other people I had talked to were having trouble understanding while I had none whatsoever. Makes the course really easy to understand and understands not everyone is a statistics major. take him!
Schilla often made mistakes and the students had to correct him. He isn't very good at teaching, but when it comes to exams or quizes he lets you know exactly what will be on them, and how you should go about the problems.
Schilla sometimes seems unsure of himself but lets you use a formula sheet and if you show up to class and pa attention you'll be fine.
Not the best teacher and can be very confusing and unclear when he teaches. That being said, he always makes the tests and quizzes as easy as possible and rarely throws in any tough problems. He gives a full formula sheet that you aren't supposed to write on... but he never checks and I usually write everything on there I need to know. Take him
Great guy! Absolutely loved coming to class to hear his sarcastic jokes that pertained to lecture material. Exams are just like the exam practice, quizes are simple. He's willing to take time out of his day to help you. He's a good laugh, good teacher and i recommend you take him.
I think he's wonderful. Very funny, presents material in a good learnable way, and lets you use a formula sheet on quizzes/tests. You cannot drop any quizzes or tests and assignments are collected periodically. I would highly recommend him... he has seriously made stats pretty painless!
As much as I hate math, I actually enjoyed coming to his class. He is witty and sweet and he makes the math painless and interesting. He is very willing to help and he is very open to questions. He explains things thoroughly. I definitely recommend taking his class!
Mr. Schilla is by far one of my favorite professors at UWL. He definitely made a boring class interesting with his humor(very funny if you pay attention to his side remarks). I would definitely recommend him to anyone! Plus you're given a formula sheet to use on all tests!
Mr. Schilla is a GREAT teacher!!!! He explains everything well, you get out of class early pretty much every day and he stays till the end to answer questions. You get a formula sheet on tests and his quizzes are formatted just like his tests so you know what is expected of you. Plus he adds humor to the class to make it interesting!!
Schilla is awesome, pretty funny guy to. I think you would have to try to fail his class. Best teachers for 145 Stats for sure!
Come to class! He is the sweetest guy but Statistics is not an easy subject. He is very willing to help you. Go in to office hours as much as possible!
Mr. Schilla is a nice old man! Never having took stats i found his class really easy. He pretty much tells you exactly what will be on the tests. As long as you show up and pay attention you will do good.
Mr. Schilla is a great teacher! He is always willing to help and makes topics clear. He gets grades in quickly as well. He's really nice and is by far a great stats professor!
He is amazing! Really helpful and a very nice guy. I love coming to class and received a great deal of help during office hour. He is like a nice grandpa to his students. Please take him! He cares about you as if you were his family.
Amazing professor! Taught the class like a high school course, but at a college pace. he is very clear on what he expects and very thorough in explaining all concepts. Gives study guides that really prepare you for the test. there is nightly homework, but it doesn't take long and is really helpful anyway. Take him!!!!!!!
I loved this professor! He was very thorough and always provided an equation sheet for tests. I would definitely take him again!
Mr. Schilla is the best math teacher I have ever had. He is so clear and easy to understand. He will go over problems with you as many times as you need. He is such a good teacher and very easy to follow. Tells you exactly what he expects on a test- fairly easy grader. I love his soul
Disclaimer: math is REALLY not my thing. But Schilla's able to help you without making you feel dumb and is very approachable, and he made stats far less painful than it could have been. He's laid back and tries his best to accommodate to how his students learn the material most successfully rather than forcing one way of learning on the class.
I never had taken a stats class before and found Schilla's class to be a breeze. He gives you a formula sheet to use on every quiz and exam and also prepares a review guide before every exam as well. He's very helpful and also very personable. He's a cute little old man that made me wanna come to class everyday. Definitely take Schilla.
This is probably the best professor I've ever had. Stats is pretty hard with a lot of information, but he is very clear when explaining.
I had Schilla for MTH 145 this semester and I am very glad I did. There were only a few times where I didn't understand the content. For the most part he does a very good job of explaining the material. He goes through a bunch of problems from the book which is super helpful.
I had Schilla my first semester of my freshman year and I loved him! He's such a cute little old man and he's so helpful. He never makes you feel dumb for asking questions and he will go over things multiple times. If you go to his office hours he's a huge help, and so nice! Would definitely recommend him to anyone.
Schilla is a great professor! He is a cute old man and was very personable. I spent a lot of time in his office and he was very helpful in making sure I understood everything. He is always cracking little jokes during class and I would definitely recommend him if you need to take statistics!
Mr. Schilla was a great professor. He made statistics an enjoyable course. He used to be a high school teacher and is good for freshman still trying to make that transition to college. His cheesy humor could always make our class laugh even at 7:45. There's quizzes and tests but he makes the process easy.
I took Stats in high school, so this class was incredibly easy for me. I think even if I hadn't taken it then, this class would still be a breeze because his teaching style is incredibly clear and easy to follow. If you are looking for a professor who is there for you, take him. Only thing: he can be picky about labeling.
Dr. Schilla is such a sweet old man! His class is easy and he explains things well. You get done with class early almost every day. He assigns in class projects that help with your grade. The exams aren't too bad and he makes sure to answer all of your questions. I would definitely take him again! Would recommend to people who anyone!
Loved Professor Schilla. He was a funny guy and turned a boring subject into a class I wanted to attend everyday. There is not much credit other than tests and projects so work hard! One of the easier classes I have taken.
Lectures were not as boring because he was funny. Notes were clear and anytime I asked him for help, he helped me. There are 4 tests (100 points) plus the final making it 5 (200 points). Before each of the tests there are quizzes (20 points). They really help you understand the material before you take the tests.
Do the homework, the class is super easy but make sure you do the homework. It will make your life so much simpler, the lectures are easy, he goes over example problems in class as well. He is always willing to teach you.
This was by far my favorite class this past semester. Dr. Schilla teaches in a precise manner, and adds a lot of humor into his lectures. He is the sweetest old man , and is always willing to help you when you have a question. Since it is a math class there is homework every day, but he never collects it, but do it because it'll help you lots!
If you are going to take STATS at UWL, take it with him. Lectures are very easy to follow, and will answer questions and take time to explain any concepts with you. Tests are fairly doable, as you get a review packet and a quiz from the unit to study from.
Mr. Schilla is an amazing professor and guy! He really DOES want his students to pass, and he knows that stats can be hard. If he messes up or doesn't explain something and the student's grades all reflect that, he will make up for it so it doesn't hurt your grade. He's a cute little old man who knows his stuff inside and out.
i dont think he is as great as everyone says. he notes are hard to follow! and he doesnt do them along with the class which is not my learning style. i studied a lot and have been doing ok
Mr. Schilla is an amazing professor! I am not good at math and I found this class to be pretty easy. He teaches you how to do everything on your calculator which simplifies the class a lot. Definitely wants to see the best for his students and is willing to help if you ask.
Was absolutely dreading Stats coming into college. Before Bill I thought I was just bad at Math, it just turned out I had had terrible teachers. I have never had a math professor that helped me understand the material better than Bill. Be sure to label everything on your tests because he is a picky grader. Other than that, he's amazing. Take Him!!!
Mr. Schilla made stats as clear cut as possible. He was very to the point, & always willing to offer extra help. He was kind & understanding. I thoroughly enjoyed having him as a professor & would definitely recommend him to anyone who is dreading statistics.
YOU. YEAH YOU. TAKE SCHILLA AND YOU WILL GET AN A IN STATS. No homework, everything is done by calculator equations, very straightforward tests and quizzes. ALMOST ALWAYS CUTS CLASS EARLY BY LIKE 20 MINUTES. GodSchilla is the plug
MTH145 with Schilla is very easy if you know how to use your calculator. Only complaint is that he allows students to come in 10 minutes early for exams, which puts students who have class right before at a disadvantage.
He made my 7:45 not so bad, cute old man who just want's you to do well. You can't skip because he writes out his notes and they are not posted to D2L! Study for the quizzes and KNOW THE STUDY GUIDE HE GIVES YOU FOR EACH TEST. Exam is easy if you really go through all your study guides and past quizzes and tests which he lets you keep (:
I had never taken stats before starting college, but taking Schilla's class helped me realize that I actually enjoyed stats. He gives you a formula sheet that can be used on all quizzes, tests, and the final which is very helpful. His lectures move at an easy pace, homework is never checked, and he finishes class early most days. He's the best!
This prof made my fear of stats go away. His lectures walk you through, step by step. All the formulas you need to know are given to you in a packet that you can use on all quizzes/exams/final. There are group projects, but you can do them by yourself too. Homework is never checked. Class is difficult if you skip!
Cute old man who knows what he's doing. I'm not a big fan of stats but the formula sheet you get to use on every quiz and exam is helpful and he explains things well. He goes over important information in class that can't be found in the book, but show up and you'll be fine.
Professor Schilla is a wonderful teacher. STATS is not an easy class and he makes the class enjoyable. He is very helpful outside the class room I go to office hours the day before every quiz/test and I did well. Although class / homework is not mandatory it is in your best interest to go to every class and do the HW so you don't fall behind.
Mr Schilla makes Stats easy. He only teaches what you need to know and gives a formula sheet to use on exams and quizzes. Show up to class everyday and you'll do fine. Homework isn't all that important if you pay attention in class. His reviews are what is on the exam. You always know what to expect. He is a fun old man with a sense of humor
I've always hated stats, but Dr. Schilla made me look forward to class. Cutest old man I've ever seen and constantly cracks jokes during lecture. Lectures are easy to follow and class is finished early almost every day. he gives practice sheets before exams and helps so much for exams which are super straight forward. best choice i've made!!
Professor Schilla has got to be one of my favorite teachers. He is a funny older man who brightens up the room with his humor and ability to connect with students. He teaches exactly what you need to know for the tests and Exam. He goes out of the way to help others if they don't understand. He made Statistics the best. Definitely, take Dr. Schilla
He is a great professor, explaining the problems in an easy way, if you show up in class and take notes, it would be very easy. Try not to skip class, cuz you'll miss some key points, although he doesn't take attendance too often. Regular quizzes and exams, but he has sample tests too. Easy A.
I really enjoyed class with Schilla. He is the cutest man ever. He's so funny and very approachable with questions. His notes are all hand written and he goes pretty fast. Do your homework to check your understanding. It's easy to fall behind with the assignments with all your other homework so stay on top of it. Great guy!
I struggle a lot with math, and Schilla made the class very easy. Assigns homework that reflects the questions that will be on the exam, and goes through them in class. Is clear with what he expects in your answers. He also lets you use an equation sheet on the exams. Exams are pretty easy if you've done the homework, and asked questions. Take him!
I loved Mr. Shilla, such a sweet old man and he explains things clearly. He may not know how to answer questions sometimes but his lectures are easy to follow. Also, although the homework is not graded, I suggest doing it as if it were because it will make for an easier A on tests and quizzes.
He goes pretty slow through notes and is very direct with what you need to know and not know for the test. He switched the quizzes he used to give out into ungraded reviews which is awesome, so just a couple tests throughout that weren't too bad. He tends to be forgetful and makes some mistakes on the notes but we just point them out and he's good.
Dr. Schilla is a relaxed, witty, helpful professor. Projects are in groups, and are meant to boost your grade. Tests, projects, and the final are the only grades, so doing homework is critical to succeeding. There are no quizzes, which can either help or hurt your grade. If you go to lecture and do the little homework assigned, you'll do well.
Very nice and funny professor. I suggest doing the homework even though he doesn't collect it. If you go to class, take notes, ask for help if needed, and do the homework, the class is very manageable. He sets you up to pass .
He is not the best teacher, getting pretty old at this point so I think retirement should be considered for him. Definitely passable of a class, but make sure you do the homework.
Super sweet, but he can be confusing at times. There are homework assignments every night but they are not collected. He grades based on tests and has a few group projects. Show up and you'll do great!
Schilla is great. If you need to take this class to fulfill a general, take Schilla! Homework isn't collected, tests are very straightforward, projects easy. Doesn't hardly use formulas because you just use calculator. Whole course is laughably easy. Because of that, don't take him if you are going to major in stats, this course won't help you.
Professor Schilla may be pretty old, but he truly cares about your success in the class. The class has no quizzes or pop quizzes, which is nice. You are graded off of 4 tests, plus a final, and about 7 mini-projects, which are nice for easy points in the class. He can be a tough grader but does want the best for his students.
I haven't taken a stats class before this, and he made it easier than I thought it would be. Most of the work is on a calculator so you don't have to memorize equations and he lets you use a note sheet on all exams. The homework isn't graded but I would still recommend doing them. He really cares about his student's success.
Mr. Schilla is incredible! I did NOT want to take Stats but he made it easier. He was very thorough when explaining and was great at answering questions. He is old and it shows when he often forgets what he's doing... but he's an adorable old man and I would recommend taking him anytime!
Professor Schilla was the worst teacher I had at UWL. Now Statistics is a hard subject, so you'll really need a teacher who is understanding, easy to follow, and proficient at explaining notes. Schilla is none of those. He often did his own work wrong, his response to most of our questions was "just because", and he never explains points deducted.
There is a lot of homework, but it's not graded. However, I would do it because it makes the exams REALLY easy. If you've taken Stats before and just need to take this class as a gen ed or degree requirement, definitely take it with Schilla. The class is super straightforward and the material isn't super complicated.
HIs notes are straight out of the book. He is a terrible explainer of the contents. I ended up dropping the course because I wasn't passing his class, and he would never email me back when I had questions on homework.
He's okay. Difficult to follow along only because he doesn't thoroughly explain everything. If you're a student that needs clear and concise explanations to learn, don't take him. He's not a bad professor, just not my kind I'd prefer. He's super nice though.
If you're pretty good at math I recommend taking Stats with Schilla. The tests are easy and straightforward especially with the use of the formula packet he gives you. However, if you are not very good at math, how he teaches can be confusing because he often gets confused himself.
I've never taken a stats class before and he taught it extremely well. My favorite professor at UWL. Caring and tells funny stories. He answers every question very well. The projects are free points. Highly reccomend. Homework not graded but helps understand the topic. Gives reviews which are VERY helpful. I did not struggle at all
If I hadn't taken stats in high school I probably wouldn't have passed this class. As this class was online, he had a hard time presenting the material in a helpful way. However, HW was optional and there were only 4 tests. Nonetheless, Professor Schilla is just a sweet old man who just wants to teach you about probability and tell you a lil joke.
Great teacher, very understanding and patient with students, especially with online class. Homework is not collected and he is a very easy grader. If you need to take a Stats class go out of your way to get him, you won't regret it.
I loved professor Schilla. His classes are straight forward and if you have any questions, he is always happy to answer them. Just make sure you're doing the homework (even though he doesn't grade it), and ask him questions about what you're confused on, and you will do well on the tests.
Lectures are boring but he is a good teacher and will answer any questions you have. Reviews are very similar to tests and he goes through reviews with the class. Homework is optional. Pretty easy class for it being statistics. He is a safe bet for this gen ed!
Class is kinda pointless, he's very confusing. I went to maybe half of the classes and when I did, I didn't pay attention and got A's and all the tests. The exam questions are exactly like examples from the lectures which are online. Very few grades, homework isn't collected or graded. If you want an A, take him, if you want to learn stats, don't.
Schilla was the man. Homework was optional so that if you understand the lecture it was just there for extra practice. The notes are filled with a lot of good examples and he was always very helpful if someone had a question.
I thought the class was pretty easy overall, but if you know you are not good at stats maybe you will think differently. However, I didn't do any stats classes before taking this class and I was able to do well. He is overall a really good teacher always tries to help and incourages questions. I would say printing notes are required for it though.
