Thinks the world hinges on him, overrates himself and boasts a lot. Goes easy on his pet student ( Edward Grube ) who happens to be the night facilities janitor. Really anal in how things should be done, papers typed.
A real hypocrite, he pretends hes a open guy but hes stubburn. He brags how he cant get kicked out of GRCC cause he has his 3 years in already. He grades a introduction class like a major class. There is a reason why his class is the last to fill up as a social science coarse.
He is very unpleasant and arrogant. He thinks that he knows everything and shows no regard or concern to the students. His teaching method is uneffective, worst teacher ever. Don't take his class, take with other instructor. A person like him should never teach, he is a disgrace.
I wish i would of read this board before i took this class. This teacher does not help you out worth crap.Makes you feel dumb when you ask him questions on speeches. Needs to pull stick out of his ass.
Yea i had him. True he thinks about himself way too much, his papers are hard, and i had a class with him where ilearned a lot, and another class where i learned nothing. Despite this if i had a question he would help me with it, hes nice, and was one of my only teachers that didnt care that i was a conservative, even though he worshiped Marx!
Contrast to what everyong says below I found him to be alright. Not a very easy class, but I've never been a fan of speeches. I wrote all my speeches/papers ussually the night before and ened up with a b-. but everyone else in the class basically hated him. He's an interesting guy to listen to.
I never had such an egomaniac as a teacher. He won't bend, and he thinks he's God's gift to GRCC.
One of the hardest classes, and a lot of work. But you learn so much and have a lot of fun in class. If you are willing to work hard to get an okay grade, you will learn so much.
He is a good teacher he just grades really hard and if you take COMM 101 dont expect it to be an easy class because it isnt
This class was probably the most fun class I'e had. If small group is an option in your degree take it.
Will isnt an easy teacher but is very clear in what he expects from you, can seem like a jackass some times but over all nice guy, this coming from a guy he didnt really like. only got a 2.2 in class but he was always fair!
Dont like this teacher.. Would NEVER taki him again.. EVER!!!
i learned almost nothing in this class. Will scott thinks way to highly of himself nad just sitting though all of his side chatter was a pain. i would never ever take another class by him. he has short man syndrome

not so great as he was expected to be.
How are you supposed to explain more in a journal when there is no more to explain? There is favoritism in the class and the subject is supposed to be open-minded but he is extremely opinionated.
I was nervous taking this teacher based on all the negative reviews on him. He is really full of himself and talks about himself alot. The class was just a bunch of boring discussions. It is impossible to get a perfect score on his essays. I ended up with a 3.1, but it was a really boring class. Yes, he does suffer from short man syndrome! Lol!
he is the worst teacher I have ever seen
Take his argumentation class, great experience, learned alot...grades hard, has extremely high expectations of you. Be prepared to dedicate time and energy if you want to pass at all. I turned in papers from this class that I got 80's ib into other classes and got 98's and 100's...finished with a 3.0.
1.0;2.0;3.0;4.0 just 4 level , how can we get the high score?

HARD TESTS, learned a lot. Fun and was always interesting
never NEVER take him for comm 101!! he's sucha perfectionist n his standards r way too high.. he clearly does have his favorites. His tests r really easy..but i totally recommend any1 to stay away from this class unless ur a very experienced speaker.
His class is the most crazy that i had never ever met. I highly recommand that don't choice his class. Unless you want to challenge yourslef. Fully with stress. Tests and homeworks are extremately hard. Speeches are high requirement. Please run away from him. Otherwise you will have nightmare every night. Seriously!!!

Worst instructor I have ever had, nice guy in class but a total perfectionist once he gets ahold of your paper!! INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS BEWARE!!! Nearly impossible to pin down in his office and if he doesnt like it you end up with a poor grade. His expectations were skyhigh for a introductory class
No way guys! I strongly recommend not taking this class. His expectations are way too high and he gives a sh** about international students. Our class best has a grade of 3.3!!!!
HE IS oK
extremely hard and demanding but was there when you needed clarification. Grades based off what he thinks rather then how well you followed and understood assignment or presentaton.
JUST.....NO GOOD...INTERNETION STUDENT....TRUST ME...DO NOT DO IT...
Grades way to hard for a beginners class. Grades on what he thinks rather then what the criteria is. Avoid this Comm class at all cost!
Teacher grades waaaay to hard for a intro class. Seems more like I'm being graded for a major. Avoid his comm101 class like the plague if you value your GPA.
I took his class on a study abroad trip in london and found him to be a great teacher... but hard. He's really interesting and for the most part, I think it's a good class. But not if you value your gpa.
Interesting. And like anything good, you get what what you put in to it. If you want help, and you will need help, you have to ask. But once you do he is very understanding, helpful an seems genuinely stoked you care enough to ask what you need to do to get the grade you want.
Grades too hard for a 101 class, it's his way or the highway. He tries to come across as nice but inside he's a complete ass. He is not helpful when you ask a question, and it's not quite clear exactly how he wants his assignments even though he wants it done his way. WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD.
Pretty sure Will Scott has "little man's" syndrome. For an entry level class, his grading was absolutely absurd. I worked so hard in this class and got a C. Almost complained to dean, yes this class is THAT BAD.
To not take his class, find another comm 101 teacher. His grading system is off. He gave me 74 for self relfection, how do you grade some one that low on what they thought. He is way to strict.
Let's just say my 4.0 GPA has been ruined by this professor's class. Very picky grader.
Ok, I am not sure why you guys are talking craps about William Scott, he is simply a great teacher! I am an international student myself, and yes I agree, maybe he grades a little hard, but what you have to do is to move your ass and do all the work he assigns! You will learn a lot from his class, and I mean it.
To make it short: Work very hard = FAIL, work ok in a correct way = SUCCESS. This class enables you to push yourself to the limit; you come to class for knowledge, not for a grade.
One of the most beneficial classes I've ever taken. Will was awesome, very charismatic and friendly. He did grade very hard but it was not impossible to do well; a number of my peers and I all received above a 3.5. Be ready to work in his class because he will push you to your limits, but as a result you will take so much from his class.
best comm class ever wish i had him now
I took the 7:00 class. He was energetic...so I guess that's good... But I thought he was really arrogant. His grading is WAY too hard, and he isn't extremely helpful. He takes offence at a lot of questions. I'm scared to find out what grade I got even though I put a lot of work into the class. Wouldn't take him ever again. You should think likewise
very hard grader and doesnt treat it as an entry level class what so ever. very very hard to get an even remotely good grade. i wouldnt recommend him at all.
Yea hes a hard teacher but you could still pass if you try. You just gotta show up and listen. He grades HARD but if you take his advice on what to do you'll be fine. Take the class you'll learn a lot!!!
he is my favorite teacher so far. ;p
He grades you HARD on your speeches. Barack Obama could come in, give a speech and get a C. You must give your speech in wills format because he believes his way is the only way that is effective. I would say more but he enjoys people saying how tough of a grader he is. Only positive he looks like Howie Mandel. P.S Act like you love culinary arts.
Very opinionated, rude, and not very clear. Thinks he is right all the time. Grades hard. Basically he wants to become a professor (he is not yet) and wants to prove he can do it...well so far he is being a jerk about the whole concept and is worried more about himself than his students, very selfish.
I have him for Interpersonal Communications and he is a tough grader on the assignments. Test? He is inflexible in grades. Very engaging, but do NOT expect to get an A just by attending or doing the minimum required. He expects you to do the college level work you should be capable of.
Difficult grader. Stick to the book and keywords when writing anything. Expect to be pushed. My favorite teacher all year.
Although his wardrobe may be seen on two and a half men(awsome bowling shirts)and he stands at about 5'ft, dont let his apperence fool you. He can be very intimidating and opinionated. However if you pay attention and basicly have an opinion on everything and can answer why? you will be fine. I found the text we read to be eye opening.
Probably the best teacher at GRCC, Anyone saying he's rude or too opinionated is probably just upset that he challenged their views. He inspires great discussions and makes you try to understand your own opinions which everyone should. He picks great texts, films, and he's a firm grader but so long as you can back up what you say you'll do fine.
absolutely no help what so ever. Everyone said to speak your mind and all it did was give me a worse grade.Quizes were not based off of the assignments and there were plenty of trick questions. he might be an ok teacher in class but online was the hardest person to deasl with.
His directions are Vague and HORRIBLE.. I have never disliked a teacher more then him. He is very arrogant, I would never ever sign up for another one of his classes.
Awesome instructor if you like to be challenged. He is absolutely the most critical grader I've ever had, but he will make you a better writer. More than half of my class failed his course. Bottom line, if your looking for an easy class don't take him. However if you want someone who is going to force you to think critically, he's you man!
I had this class at 9 in the morning, and a lot of times he would start the day off with funny discussions, getting the class going. He is definitely one of my favorite teachers, and I have signed up for one of his other classes next quarter from hearing good things about it.
This guy is suffering from small man syndrome for sure. He will pretty much act like he knows everything and if you try to question it he rewards yu with an F even if you did good work and turned everything in
He is an awesome teacher, it really is your fault if you do bad in his class. He provides all the resources needed to do well. He will go out of his way to help you in any way he can. He really loves teaching and his positive attitude made class fun. I would definitely take him again.
One of the most difficult professor's I've ever had, ever tougher than 400 level coursework at UW. Extremely rewarding if you stick through it. He has valuable real world experience. Critical Analysis of Mass Media shaped who I am today. Difficult, but worth the payoff. Teeny sized "A+". You'll never look at Freud the same again.
Class is discussion based. Lots of interesting ideas and topics were covered throughout the class. Awesome guy who makes you feel comfortable in class and you'll end up learning new things as long as you show up. He was a really great teacher and i'd take a class from him again without hesitating. Loved the class!!!!!!!
At first, I thought he was going to be a great teacher. As the quarter went on, I noticed that he started to act arrogant with back-handed type of comments. He is unhelpful when it comes to questions and won't ever give you a straight answer and makes you feel stupid. I will NEVER take a class with him again.
I took this class online during the summer and it was very hard combined with my psychology class. 11 wks crammed into 8 wks. This class requires watching movies and writin analytical details about the films. Was fun, but tests/quizzes doesn't give even 1 minute per question. Overall I liked the class but was very hard for me. Final is 125 questons

When i first took this class i thought it would be a great opportunity to learn something useful. But this instructor does not have a clue on how to instruct. Really unclear, unhelpful. Highly DO NO RECOMMEND TAKING THIS CLASS!!!
I take his Film Class and actually ,in my mind , i haven't thought that it would be so hard. There are 3 quizzes , 11 weekly discussions , 3 comparison/contrast essays , participation , and some extra work if he can't come to class. If you love film and especially HISTORY OF FILM , take his class.Be prepared for work hard , you need it
He is a great teacher but will grade you very hard. His quizzes cover every parts of the chapter, so reading the book really help with quizzes. The other might not like him that much because he is a hard grader, I almost failed the class to but don't it because I was being sloppy. If you work smart not hard, you will receive a good score.
Will is a very harsh grader, and he doesn't make his expectations very clear from the beginning. He's overworked, which often makes his grading late. His quizzes are incredibly detailed and can be slightly confusing.
He grades VERY harshly, but thats not a bad thing. He makes sure you know whats going on in the class otherwise your work is pointless. The class is discussion based so its ran by you and your classmates which is fun and keeps the room alive, usually. If you like media and have a take on current topics in social media, TAKE THIS CLASS!!
probably the most unhelpful professor ive ever had. doesnt teach you anything at all and i learned nothing that will help me in real life. dont take this class if its with mr. scott. i'm not even upset with my grade entirely, its just a horribly taught class on something that actually could be super interesting.
Worst experience I've ever had with a teacher, his tests on the book don't agree with the answers in the book and when I called him out on it he blew me off for over two weeks before responding telling me he'd "look it over when he got a chance". His explanations are extremely vague and his readings are unmanageable. AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS
Required us to read through 150+ worth of text each week for a test that only accounted for 10% of marks; yet the final exam (which we only have an average of a week to finish) is a whopping 30% of the total grade. This professor obviously has not idea what grades mean, do not take this unless you wanna skew your GPA big time.
Terrible class, huge workloads with minimal help or guidance.
Man, I tried to bear with his confusing instruction for the first couple weeks, giving him the benefit of the doubt. But the class just became more confusing as time went on. There are no clear directions and his lectures become so completely irrelevant so fast that you learn nothing that has to do with the course by the end of it. Sad times.
Show up and you will be hard pressed to not be interested in what he has to say. Makes the class fun with different activities daily. there is a a lesson to be learnd every time you walk in to his class though. Overall memorable class
Took the public speaking class. There were many drafts of your speech to do, and there were many things he watched for while you spoke. He was one of the few that didn't dock points for going 'um' or 'uh' like some professors. You will be writing a lot more than you except for a public speaking class, and also have 3 speeches to do.
This class has been horrible. The assigned reading he gives for this film class, was nearly 200 pages in 5 weeks. He also grades your written assignments, then gives zero feedback. The ideas presented in the text are so generalized it's laughable, all while the "facts" it presents are completely un-cited. Worst class I've ever taken.
Small group communication is a class where your grades are dependent on you AND your group although there are some individual assignments and an individual test for each group test. Lots of participation in class to learn key concepts in group activities.
This class could be super interesting, however, I found the textbook (America On Film) to be extremely biased and the workload was insane for a community college course on film. You cannot pass this class with an A unless you are William Scott himself. Period.
He tries to make you participate in his lectures, and this is a great help because he allows you to discuss your own thoughts with the other students and he will clarify any confusion that you may have. He is also hilarious. I would recommend him if you plan on taking an interpersonal communications class.
First impressions are everything. Show up and make sure to talk in class for the first few weeks. Textbook does not go in-depth into the topics. If you want to learn more you will probably have to read outside of class to get a better understanding of the concepts. 4.0 is a 98%+
Get ready to read. He's a very tough grader. All his quizzes are on the little details that you most likely won't remember. Not hard assignments although you actually have to watch the movie required for it. Must comment on multiple different people responses.
Ive never read as much for a class as this one. 70-80 pages a week.. Very strict to his syllabus (NO late work, even if you couldn't turn the assignment in because you had another class.) Everything must be scholarly or he doesn't pay much attention to what you have to say.
Will is a great professor. Class meetings don't seem long, because we talk about popular culture and everyone can relate to it. (Reading, TV, Film, Technology, Music). There are no quizzes or tests, but class participation is a must. You have weekly readings but they're easy to manage and comprehend.
Honestly went into this class as a film enthusiast and wanted to learn more about it for my degree. I'm very disappointed by this class. Not only was this class difficult but his grading was pretty ridiculous as well. Also the movies that were watched were not all accessible for some like he said and made it even harder. I DONT suggest this class.
Super vague on his instructions. Laughable expectations. Really just don't take a class from him.
He's really particular when it comes to grading. The content of the class was fine but his questions and assignments aren't always clear which makes it difficult. He'll also take random facts from the textbook and put them as questions on quizzes, so be sure to read it.
He's always the right and more "experienced" one. Your opinion is wrong and doesn't matter to him. He has that arrogant personality and also loves to grade hard even though your work is pretty much 4.0 material. All he does is lecture and then expects us to be more creative in our work. Everything just has to go his way or your GPA will drop.
THE worst teacher I have ever had in my 23 years of living. I had to take his class twice under crazy circumstances. He uses the same quizzes, tests, discussions, and notes. A discussion where I made over 90% before, and I got 63% this time. It took him less than 1 hr to grade my final that was 6 pages long. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS! YOU WILL FAIL!!
This class was so bad. The textbook is very biased, and he expects very very specific details and will grade you down without giving feedback. Quizzes are insanely specific and you would have to memorize the chapters word by word to pass the quizzes. Overall this teacher is expecting way too much out of a 100 level class. Very time consuming
I'm an A student who is enthusiastic about attending my classes, especially communication classes. A few quarters ago, Scott ruined that for me because not only did he pretty much look down on all of us but he also graded so harshly, my hard work and what other teachers would consider to be "quality work" wasn't good enough for him. RUINED MY GPA.
Very disrespectful and openly targets students. Graded papers more on how he liked or didn't like you. Compared papers with students he targeted and those he favored. Most all the negative comments are true. Those he favored were not because they were hard workers, motivated, or intelligent, rather how much they liked his ideas and presen
CLASS: HUMAN 133 Mr. Will is a very tough grader who will make you feel like you're taking a 300 level English class. He's also really bad with posting grads or responding to emails on time. As a fellow student, I just want to warn you not to take any of his classes. I seriously think that teachers like him should not be allowed in schools like GRC
Dont choose his classes unless you want a low GPA, only genius can got A here
M too unfortunate to drop this class, 4.0 starts at 97%, and he will grade you depending on his own impression.
Yes, there was a lot of homework, and throughout the quarter you read the entire textbook. However, all of his homework was fun, easy to do and it helps you have a greater understanding of yourself. He is a kind and funny teacher, and he is generous to provide you help. He is very nice to international students, too. He's my fav prof. TAKE HIS CLASS
The worst instructor I have ever met! No feedback at all and his instruction of assignment is poor. Only one sentence for each assignment and even the final paper. The quizzes are extremely hard. He requires you to remember every single detail from a very biased book. Ready for a Fail if you want to take his class.
He is so special. He skipped one of my assignment and then just delete it instead of grading. I have never seen such talented behavior. Also, he wont round your score to the nearest integer in the end. Dont choose his classes even you have to change your whole schedule. He is respected but the abilities are terrible.
I can totally conclude his style of grading: give a harsh score and the reasons are always (yes, always) You need to give me more details and course concepts to support yourself . And guess what, I just answered my classmates about the concept in the textbook. Use more concepts to support concepts? Ah, good one.
Terrible teacher!
He is a tough grader without a solid criterium. But he is outgoing and try to lecture in a funny way.
Great teacher with the copious amount of useful knowledge. Totally worth taking it
Man this class was definitely my favorite. He provides this strange like "cozy" feeling within the classroom between the students, like we all know each other. That helps A LOT when giving speeches. The impromptu speeches were the best! HIGHLY recommend! Well, my grade got dunked a bit (B) but hey, thats acceptable for this kind of class aha...
I am less than one week into this course so there are specifics like testing and so forth that I don't even know yet and I allready want to reach through the screen of this online course and ya know. He has required numbers of log in times per week, for starters. Then he acts like he's teaching a 200 level English course. I want to pull all my hair
Decided to take a gen. ed class last to finish off my degree and I wish I never took this guy. Where do I start? Grades assignments almost immediately and feels like he doesn't even look over them. Discussions and assignments are due 48hrs after assigned date and within 48hrs of due date. The most confusing and over worked class I have ever taken.
Definitely a good guy and has humorous lectures and is very passionate about interpersonal communication. However, for written assignments his grading scale makes no sense (has an above the above standard). His standards are incredibly high, I tried really hard on some assignments and still missed 5-10 points LOL.
Will is a good guy, made class fun and there was hardly any homework. He teaches well and overall the class was a good experience. The only thing that I didn't like was his grading criteria. You will hardly ever receive full credit for an assignment. If you care about your gpa, I wouldn't take his class.
Don't take him ever. Took him twice and failed both times. If you ask any question to him, he will say read syllabus. Mean teacher ever! I won't suggest anyone to take him. Sorry, to be mean But it hurts when communication teacher grades you according to your grammars and english. He just won't everything perfection.
I won't recommend this professor. He's super hard on grading. And his reviews sounds mean.
Don't waste your time taking this class. I took his pop culture class and it was way too stressful. He's an extremely tough grader with really vague essay prompts. There isn't a ton of homework except for weekly essays and quizzes, but mostly he just isn't helpful and changes due dates and isn't very nice. Do not recommend
One of the worst classes I have ever taken imo. Quizzes test knowledge of random facts from the textbook instead of testing understanding of concepts. Grades ridiculously hard for what he is teaching, and most of the time doesn't even give feedback or answer questions. Essay and discussion prompts were often very vague. Avoid at all costs
I believe Mr Scott wants to prove that a film class is not an easy A. He was extremely strict with grammar/spelling/English errors. He never responded to my emails. Ever. I tried my hardest, read a ridiculous liberal textbook that makes white people feel horrible about themselves. Did my best work possible. Received a C. Which lowered my GPA.
Grading standards are extremely high, so dont plan on getting full credit on most assignments. All feedback/questions are usually answered with a general go look back at the syllabus statement. Very vague in essay/discussion prompts and expectations. He treats this class as if it were a 200 course, wouldnt take his class again!
Took his hybrid class, Don't try it. "hybrid" is just an excuse to blast you with readings. There's a lot of quizzes at first, I don't recommend taking him unless its your last option but you can get along with him. There's 3 main speeches, a ton of reading for quizzes. Overall, a lot more writing being done than speaking
Will is super intense with his work. He will mark you completely absent if you aren't on time for when he takes attendance, which if you "miss" more than 4 classes the highest grade you can receive is 90%. He expects too much and doesn't give clear directions. With this class you kinda have to find your own way through.
This is by far the worst class I have ever taken. His grading is very vague as well as the instructions on his assignments. He's not very helpful when you ask for advice either. He is a tough grader and it doesn't mix well with the fact that he grades by a few assignments. I would not recommend his intro to pop culture class.
He is a VERY tough grader and grades by a few things. He competes in public speaking and it almost seems like he expects the same level of skill from his students. His feedback isn't very helpful. You won't have a chance to make up for any mistakes. At the beginning of the class you do a speech and he grades it as if we already know everything.
Probably one of the toughest graders I've had, hell take off point and not tell you why. And when you ask he probably wont respond.
Does not update the class on upcoming due dates, gives vague answers to questions and tells you to "read the textbook," gives assignments that won't always relate to the required film yet will force you to write entire essays regarding the subject. I felt lost and confused throughout this entire class, and never felt like he actually cared.
Us students will face many adversity when it comes to our success in learning during these strange times; and I really believe that Professors are the fundamental key to that success. However, it seems that this particular class only provides extensive to-do list which is lacking that leadership that we need to keep us both motivated & engaged.
I had trouble getting in contact with him, and when I missed points on quizzes or assignments and tried to discuss why he was not very articulate. I worked fairly hard but found myself with a 3.9, the lowest of my grades. I wouldn't say it's difficult to pass, but that last stretch was tumultuous. It was mid-pandemic, perhaps he is usually better.
A teacher more worried about pushing his political agenda then teaching the subject . I took a film class before his and i loved it and learned a hole lot about film. In this teachers course you just get to learn about the politics he like's and nothing about film and if you disagree about the politics you can just fail because he disagrees.
Scott has strict rules so be sure to read the syllabus carefully! there is either going to be discussion post for the week or an essay, along with a quiz on various chapters. i never got a perfect score on my homework and he never gave feedback. the class is easy just really focus and proofread your written work.
son--I--I just--son pls, just don't take this class. 'M begging u. I don't think he understands "Life outside of class" and he wants you to be done with a chapter within 2 days. Find someone else pls and thank u.
Professional Scott will quite honestly go down as one of the worst professors I've ever had. A teacher is supposed to teach, inspire, and work along side his students. He does none of that. He answers questions with, " Read the syllabus" and "read the textbook". To make things worse, He's a harsh grader, he'll take off points for small reasons.
Such a disappointing class. Absolutely no exceptions are ever allowed on anything so be aware of that. His grading is completely unfair and "above average work" will get you a B-/C on most assignments. He doesn't care about his students, so be prepared to put endless work into assignments just to receive a low grade and no feedback.
Large amounts of writing. Always deducts points, never provides feedback. Does not communicate. Requires ridiculous minimum word counts, and outside research. DO NOT TAKE.
I am not even a week into this class and things have already gone so downhill. None of the instructions are clear and his answer to every question is to "look at the syllabus". I got an incomplete grade on the introduction discussion to the class because the instructions were not clear at all and when asked he was very passive aggressive about it.
A terrible teacher. Horrible communication skills, does not tell you things clearly and just overall seems pretty uncaring in how he writes most his emails. I got covid at the beginning of the class and told him I needed extra time with the assignments, he said he accepts late work. But now, he won't grade my late work and I need it to graduate.
This was supposed to be a very easy class but he ended up making it far harder and more difficult for the students than it had to be. Nobody ever got higher than 95% on any assignment and the whole subject was just about nothing. If you want to take this class, find another teacher and thank us later. Also the syllabus has extra credit lmao
Gave out A LOT of reading out of a VERY dry textbook. Assignments need at least 2 outside sources, plus txtbook. He does not teach anything and gives arbitrary minimum/maximum word requirements on assignments. I don't think ANYONE maxed ANY assignment. Very passage aggressive responses when you have a question. No extra credit was given.0/10
He has too much homework, and he is toooooo strict. Also, He doesn't care about his students. I will not take this class again. He give 0point for the first assignment because he wants to give us the lesson of more careful about the homework!
DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS ! ! !
DO NOT TAKE, he gives assignments without any instruction and will not answer questions.
Terrible prof, do not take his class!
I took this class fall quarter and Will is a very good teacher! His assignments are easy and he explains things in his lectures really well. Since its a communication class, he encourages us to communicate with each other. I wish I could take this class again I enjoyed it a lot. I regret skipping
This was borderline an English class. So much writing and reading due. You get 2 weeks to do the assignments which includes 2 check in posts, 2 quizzes, 2 chapters of reading, and a minimum 1500 word analysis. The textbook you are required to read is complicated too. He's a good professor but its a pretty assignment heavy class that takes time.
Be ready to read a lot and write long papers. He's not a super tough grader if you meet all the criteria but the course is just reading a textbook and writing papers. It's not super hard it's just annoying and not very engaging.
Do not take this class unless you want to hate your life. You will be writing 5-6 pages every week and the textbook is the most boring and dry thing I've ever read in my entire life. He grades extremely harshly, and you will not get a single word of feedback on your work throughout the entire course. This class is definitely not worth it.
Want to be stressed out and not receive credit for your work? This is your guy then!Egotistical, apathetic, passive aggressive and abrasive towards his students.Grades given contradict his own grading criteria, incorrect answers on tests. And much more. The ironic part:communications instructor with POOR communication skills. Awful.WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
The material of the class was fun, we got to pick movies off of Netflix to watch and analyze! There were a lot of assignments, but they were due on the same day every two weeks, so if you mapped it out it wasn't that much. My only flaw was how long the word counts were, You have to write sooooo much. He also didn't give the best feedback.
I thought this is an interesting class, but it is hella boring, you are supposed to write about same thing every assignment. Quizzes are pretty easy but his wording is awful. The due dates for the assignments are fair, but the essays are too long and his grading is weird because he always marks you down on not being specific without any explanation
This teacher refuses to give direct feedback. He lets us do assignments twice, but what's the point of redoing an assignment if you don't know what you did wrong? For a communications teacher, he's bad at communicating! He's apathetic, strict, and doesn't seem to care about his students. I used to love Communications, but he ruined that for me!
He is terrible at phrasing questions in his quizzes. Each quiz is only 5 questions wrong, so there is no room for error. There is also a ridiculous amount of writing. Most of the time you have to stretch to the word count, which decreases the quality of your work. Writing questions are also often repetitive. He's phrased questions homophobically.
Professor Scott assigns just three things every week - two chapter check-in posts and a unit application exercise (a 1,500 word essay). Don't cram all of these things last minute because they are very time consuming. He doesn't grade too harshly, but he also lacks feedback. Just make sure to read the required chapters and submit your work on time.
I think this professor should be teaching PHD students at MIT. This professor is a hard grader, by hard grader I mean extremely difficult. His grading scale goes beyond his rubric, he expects you to complete your assignments to absolute perfection. It is essentially MISSION IMPOSSIBLE. I would avoid ALL of his classes at ALL COST
The syllabus was so confusing for this class, that I emailed and asked for clarification. He replied with "Read the syllabus". I dropped the class after the 1st day.
Good class overall, a bit boring and exactly what the description of the class says. You literally just read long chapters of a pretty good textbook and write reports on it. Just do the work even if your work is mid and you'll get an A.
I tried to like him. But I found Will to be a corrupt professor & unpleasant person. He will interrupt you mid sentence & if you challenge his theories or express a personal belief or opinion different than his, he will become angry, & belittle you. Walking into his class felt like walking into a bad zone. Great professors are inspiring, not toxic.
Can be passive aggressive at times. I wouldn't say he's the worst teacher I just think he could be a bit kinder and communicate a little better (ironically lol). He also grades students as if it was a university and I think he should allow room for leniency especially since it is a community college class and not that serious.
While the workload is relatively light, the content is unfortunately heavy. The textbook is dry and assignments' lengthy word requirements mean you'll be stretching sentences severely beyond their normal limits. Additionally, his feedback consists of posting the entire rubric again. Extremely vague and not at all helpful.
This professor is a tough grader who expects perfection. Avoid their class if possible - the workload is intense, and they lack clear communication. However, Unstuckstudy was a helpful study tool that made prepping more manageable.
Strict with his late policy and it can lead to 0/10s on assignments if peer responses are not added. Tons of writing assignments about movies and scenes. Very boring to continuously do. I have had him for a popular culture class as well, but he is much worse while teaching FILM 101 subject.Professor Scott should find enjoyment outside of torturing.
You won't have the chance to make even the slightest mistake. If you do, your homework will be marked as incomplete. It's all about perfection or nothing.
What a joke. I chose to take another teacher for film and they threw me in this guy's class since no one wanted to take him. This is an English class not a film class so be warned. You can only pick between one of two movies that came out within the last year that both have rotten tomatoes scores lower than 30%. Super picky grader. The worst teach
He was okay. The instructions are unclear on assignments, and they are quite time-consuming. Nonetheless, as long as you're detailed in your papers he's a fair grader, and he is quick with emails. It's hard at first but easy once you get footing. However, if you don't have at least 3 hours every day for his class I don't recommend it.
awfullllllllll never take!
Guaranteed this guy plays video games all day because there is no actual teaching in this class. It's not about movies, its about the movie book.
Mr Scott was helpful even though my class was online but it was graded by weekly papers that you could never get 100 on, a discussion post a week and one quiz per chapter. You could only submit assignments once so even if you made a small mistake they were marked incomplete. It isn't hard to get a good grade in this class but I wouldn't recommend.
This professor should not be a teacher. I took his film class because I wanted to learn about film, and I learned what annoyance was. He doesn't teach, all his assignments are graded on perfection and also are not actually taught, but instead give a chunk of text to read and a prompt to write. No office hours, no lectures, no actual teacher things.
I took a CMST-101 Class this 2025 spring quarter. As a 4.0 GPA student Will Scott made it nearly impossible to get a 100% on assignments. All of his assignments were marked complete/incomplete, If you missed the tiniest aspect of his assignments he would mark you a 0% in a heartbeat. As a very entry level class I would NEVER recommend this teacher.
Example: Discussion assignments require you to record a short video and respond to at least half of your classmates' video posts on Canvas. Grading is strict and based on a complete/incomplete system.
He was so incredibly unhelpful. Assignments were difficult to follow. I didn't get my book until too late, asked if I could still pass, and he basically told me 'I don't know.' He wouldn't use my preferred name at all, despite it being right in front of him. Don't take him, not even if desperate.
Confused as to how this man is still a teacher. He uses chat gpt to write all of the instructions to his assignments, and the way he grades them reflects that. You will never receive 100% on anything. He doesn't teach, just makes you read a chapter in the text book then write a 1400 word essay on it. This class ruined my GPA. Please don't take it.
Hate this guy. The opposite of a goated teacher. Swear he is satan reincarnated….. BOOOO WILL! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLAS
