I took Eng 101 last semester and it was a total nightmare because i had the worst professor ever! She did not teach very well and was not clear at all! She also gives students very poor grades for good work. Professor tooma is very clear and makes writing very fun and understanding! Hes The best!

I had him for ENG 105. I loved his class, he made everything interesting and he definitely is a character, Very intellectual at that. I personally think that I should of gotten an A.. but the final mess me up. He is a wonderful being as well.

Good prof, knows his stuff, but the workload he assigns for a literature class is ridiculous! I spent more time doing his papers/reading than i spent on Bio104, Precalc2, and Chem103 combined! Gives you an in class paper (weekly) after every reading assignment +3 term papers+group essays. Easily 100pgs reading wkly + a total of 35-40 pgs in papers

Why this guy is not a full-time professor is beyond me. He is by far one of the best educators Essex has! Hire him!

Professor Tooma, excellent, cooperated daily life into class life. I was pleasantly surprised, this was not a boring class.

Eng classes are boring, but this prof actually caught my attention. He does give a lot of work, but helps you in the long run. Professor tooma is not what you expect a college professor to be. he is completely laid back and he is hilarious, sometimes he does go a little to far on the jokes though. There is NEVER a dull moment in his class. He is the easiest professor ive ever taken. If you would like to boost your gpa and would like to get an A, then take his class.

Prof Tooma is one of the best out here. His classes fill up the first two days of registration so that says something. Just do your work and you will have an A. Any problems he is there to listen and help you out as much as he cans, just go to his office. I cannot say enough. Take him and you wont regret it.

If i could describe professor Tooma in one word i would choose easy. His classes are ridiculously easy, if you fail, there is no way that you could have passed grade school. I had the privilege of being a student of Professor Tooma, and I can honestly say he is a gifted Professor. His teaching style is an asset to student, he makes the course fun and interesting. He is open, encourages different prospective. He requires you attend his class, hand in assignments, he does not give grades you earn your grade. Worth it.

I took Professor Tooma for three semesters. Purposely. He is simply my favorite professor at ECC. While he may be tough on some aspects, (if you plagerize you better just leave the school), he is incredibly inspiring, motivational, and wonderfully hilarious. Professor Tooma is the type of professor that his colleagues could learn from. He cares about your comprehension and will coach you through anything you do not understand. His neither a hard or an easy grader, he is merely fair and impartial. You get the grade you deserve and with his additional help, you'll find you can become above average.

I liked his Honors 215 class. He made it fun and entertaining given the material. He has a bit of an ego but who can blame him. I loved our interaction and actually reading the material, participating and turning your work in in a timely fashion is a guaranteed A. Too bad I'm not a liberal arts major or I'd have taken him again.

Get ready to write! He's funny but very tough grader. And if you missed an assignment don't bother bringing it in late, he won't accept it. Attendance is a must or else he fails you. Other than that, cool guy.

I took this class Fall 2016. Tooma loves hearing himself talk. Once he starts lecturing, you have to grin and bear it. We studied folktales, read together in class, watched Campbell's "Power of Myth". Class discussions were amazing - Tooma made everyone feel like a VIP. Journal entries based on topics and 2 critical analysis papers.

Lit book: Against Forgetting by Forsche. 2 papers, 14 journal entries: typed, uploaded on Moodle. Lots on in class readings - mostly Tooma read aloud - and some related films. The subject matter was intense (wartime poetry) but the class was rewarding. Turn in work, show up to class. Provided vague feedback on papers.

Doctor Tooma single handedly pushed to have a Creative Writing course. I had to take it: it combined my two favorite things: writing and Tooma's down to earth approach to education. I was not dissapointed. Tooma managed to offer insightful critique while simultaneously fostering an environment of creativity and exploration. A real pleasure.

Doctor Tooma pushed for a creative writing class , and I knew that I had to take it. What could be better than Tooma and story writing? I was not disappointed. He has a way of offering literary critique while still fostering creativity. The class, and Tooma, were both absolute pleasures. I only wish that he taught a 200 level creative course.

Tooma is a great professor, gives good feed back, very engaging, and makes class fun. The guy does not have a filter so be prepared to laugh or maybe even be insulted in a joking manner. Lots of writing, but if you genuinly care to improve, he will assist you and before you know it, you can write papers with your eyes closed.

One of the best English professors that I have ever had, Why? Mainly due to the fact that he is so easy to pass while learning intricate levels of writing. He may be a tough grader if your writing is awful, but either way, he will help even the greatest writers improve in one way or another. My second semester with him and I highly recommend him.

He's the head of the English Department at ECC so consider this the final boss of the curriculum; he expects you to know format, he expects you know how to write at a college level and in this class the readings can be a challenge.
