His assignments are easy, but he gives everyone B or a C, which is not a good thing if you want an A in English 101. He's pretty cool, though.
His assignments were very easy in ENG 101, but he rarely gives anyone an A , and that's really annoying. But he's a awesome teacher, and I'd recommend him to anyone!
Good instructor. Like student participation. Reading assignments are somewhat boring, but he explain their relavence.
This teacher is very boring, so if you want a blow off English class this is the guy to take!!! His writing assingments are dumb. Dont take him if you like a challenge.
had activities in class that would deal with type of paper you were doing. a little boring, but a good teacher
Use good punctuation cuz he takes off for that. Had him for Bible as Lit. and was very good. he can be a little boring but I loved him. He lets you express yourself on issues you choose. I recommend him highly
I would reccoment Walters. His assignments are easy and you aren't tested much. On the big paper he counts a bunch of extra stuff towards the total-so you don't have to stress too much. He's sometimes funny and makes the class go by fast.
Good guy, looks a lot like Phil Hartman doing his Bill Clinton immitations (especially the eye brow thing, Freaky!). Lots of class participation. A few days are dry but the rest make up for it. I give his classes a big thumbs up.
I agree completly about the eyebrow thing- it is wierd, but otherwise he is ok.
amazing teacher
I had Bill Walters for English back in 2000. He solidified my desire to major in English and I will get my master's soon. I went back to ask for career advice years later and he was very helpful--Great teacher.
Tests VERY easy, papers more difficult, he won't allow As. Easy to get an A overall by doing good on exams and having a B average on papers. After class one day he overhead me say something about someone getting an A on her paper and he said "Who got an A?" like he was surprised there was one
Good teacher, but boring class and its hard to stay awake, most of the time you dont even have to show up to class as long as you do good on quiz'es and papers.
Bill Walters is a great guy, I have gotten to know him well over the years. One thing: make sure you never come close to plagiarizing anything! He will catch you and you will get a zero! If you do your own work and quote anything you borrow in your papers, his classes will prove to be rewarding.
Mr. Walters is by far the greatest instructor I've ever had. He's very sweet, easy going and helpful. I would recommend any class that he teaches! He's GREAT!!
Mr. Walters is a good teacher. The class may drag at times and he might fail at attempts to be funny, but I reaaly liked his class. It is hard to get an A in that class. I even had my some of my papers proof-read by a friend w/ a Masters degree in English, and still got B's.
Walters is a very boring man. I found it extremely hard to stay awake in his classes. Luckily he allowed 9 misses so I rarely went to class. I got A's on every paper including the final research paper. He is a very dry and dull man. I would not recommend him
I had him for 101 and Bible as Lit. One day on Lit. class him stopped talking mid-sentance and started to stare at the back wall. He lookked at it for a while. Then he snapped out of his trans and started talking again. He also likes to talk about sex a lot. He is a good teacher.
He is a great teacher. Even though is humor is alittle dry I always find some reason to Laugh at his jokes. A GREAT TEACHER OVER ALL....
Bill Walters is the the most amazing teacher I've ever had. I was never very interested in school before but he made me want to learn. He is the kindest and most compassionate person I've ever met. VERY understanding. VERY helpful. I would give him the highest recommendation. He's the GREATEST!
I have pretty much learned nothing in this class. He gets off topic and goes on and on about nothing. I have also found him to be a little on the **** side. If you want easy, this is a good class, but if you want to learn something: find someone else.
Excellent teacher. Not particularly easy though--tough grader. Not bad looking. Pretty well built with a Warren Beatty kind of face. Works for me!
oh my goodnes...will put you to sleep in a matter of a minute. he gets going of the subject all the time..very annoying. The quizzes are kinda hard. he is really nice...if you can stay awake enough to notice!
Couldn't stand the guy
How could you not like Dr. Walters? He's a very nice person and a great teacher!
easy classes, nice teacher, he's a bit hard on grading papers, but for the most part you dont have to put a lot of work into his classes, highly recomended.
descent teacher but not easy whenit comes to grades
Great teacher! He spells out exactly what he wants from you, with plenty of notice. He's tough on grading, but if you triple-check papers beforehand, you'll do just fine.
I agree with the others, he does get pretty dry sometimes, and does go off on tangents sometimes, but overall he is a good teachr and from what he ways he will take the extra time to help you if needed.
interesting man...boring class...slept all the time...don't take it
VERY VERY picky about writing and grades hard. Keeps calss interesting with lots of student participation though and helpfull if you need it. Overall a great teacher. Recommended if you dont mind getting a B or C.
Mr. Walters keeps the class very interesting and you get a lot of time to do papers. He's a tough grager on the papers (Really tough) but lets you correct them for +1/3 of a letter grade.
may know what hes talking about and make class interesting but hes way too hard on grading. lighten up dr walters....its rvc not harvard!
His Bible as Literature class is pretty boring. He takes a long time to say what he wants to say, and asserts his own opinions on the legitimacy and accuracy of the Bible in class. Otherwise, I've barely read anything and I'm doing pretty well.
He gives me good grades, probably because I'm a good writer. I want to bang him.
hes rili tough on grading..so watch out..but over all..hes a gud professor..:)
One of RVC's best profs, very smart. Yeh, he's a hard grader, but what's so bad about expecting a lot from people?
Liked him. And he isn't all that hard of a grader if you do a good job on your papers and watch details.
nice teacher
nice prof..hard grader...well all of my papers are good but damn that final test...:) if i wer u guys..i would tke smeone else's class..
The research paper is hard and he's a tough grader, but over all he's a good professor.
Good teacher, hard grader... He was an editor... But, hes cool.
2 words man..tough grader!

very funny, makes class interesting.
He is great teacher! i had him for english 101 and for Bible as Lit 140! he is very helpful and easy. He drags some stuff out so you may get a little board, but all in all great teacher! you'd like him! the books are deff not manatory. He will tell u exactly what you need the first day pretty much!
hes allright. I had some words with him that turned to some foul language but he didnt hold it against me! He is a good guy.
He is an excellent English prof, I would highly recommend him.
He's a hard grader, but you learn a lot from his class. Lots of student participation.
He was a pretty good prof. He was always very clear about what he expected which was nice.
I loved having him as a prof because I learned a lot and he was very interesting. He was always telling funny stories, sometimes for half the class period. I wouldn't say he grades hard, but he doesn't just give out As to anybody who did a halfway decent job on an essay.
Great teacher. He explains concepts well and gives reasonable due dates. He's funny and very likeable. He is willing to answer your questions and is understanding.
Gold star for the professor! Excellent teacher with a love for words (he is a linguist, after all.) Bring out your best writing for the assignments, and be as original and thoughtful as you can in the essays and research papers, and you'll do well.
One more thing: writes a lot of comments on your papers that are almost completely illegible. Don't be afraid to ask him what he wrote.
Alright teacher. Had him on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the class seemed to go on forever. Very smart man, but I hated writing papers for him. He clearly states at the beginning that he grades on grammer and usage and not creativity. No matter how well I thought I wrote a paper, I always got B's. I always got A's at Boylan in english.
Mr. Walters is cool, easy to talk to. The class is somewhat of an independent study class. He goes over the material, but often gets off topic. There are several quizzes, 2 test with NO study guides and a research paper with a required presentation. ALOT of reading.
Really enjoyed his Bible Lit class. He is very analytical and open minded, but also understanding and willing to help. Make sure you do the reading and the class is easy. He pointed out and challenged a lot of aspects of the Bible that most would not even think about. He tells a lot of stories and will get off topic, but over all very interresting.
Like all the stories. It's the best part of one of his classes. The stories are always relavant, but some times you have to think about it to get it.
Don't buy the book for the Bible as literature class, we didnt use it once. I dont feel like i really learned anything. we basically read the bible and talked about. but make sure u do read it
I personally liked him. He states at the beginning of class that he doesn't usually give out A's, unless the paper is perfect grammar usage wise and what not. He's cool though. Talks a bit too much about nothing, but I think he's just trying to make time go by.
Mr. Walters is a good professor, but grammar is the most important thing to him. B's on every paper no matter how much effort!
He did not help really at all.
The hardest grader I have ever had! The only class that I have not gotten an A in...kept me off the deans list. Do not take this class if you are not solid in your faith!
He's smart, knowledgeable, articulate, funny, nice, and all the other things you want in a professor, but it's so true that he's a tough grader! Not impossible tough.
I spent most of the class texting in the front row. He'd babble on for the full 50 minutes about nothing in particular and very rarely captured my attention. I didn't learn anything in that class, despite my many attempts to concentrate on his lessons -- it was either, you know it already or you don't. Either take a different prof. or test out!
He is possibly the easiest english teacher at RVC.
not a good teacher, don't take him!!
Don't let Dr. Walters scare you. He's demanding but very willing to help. I went to his office hours and he was extremely helpful.
good professor
Easiest teacher in the english department but he's also very intelligent. Get him if you can.
hes an okay teacher. hes easy but attending his class was so boring. We almost never did anything.
Great professor. Very knowledgeable. Maybe shares too much information at times.
He is a very boring teacher, but a easy grader.
My favorite professor so far!
I am not a fan of English class and he made it worth attending. Grammar was very important, but if you followed instructions, it was going to earn an A unless, of course, you have no understanding of how to write to begin with, then you are out of luck.
this guy is kinda weird. a little too much religion for my taste but he does a good job. grades are consistently b's and hes nit picky on grammar but acceptable. id take it again.
If you're not a Christian or well-versed Bible fanatic, you will not do very well.
Brilliant!
He's an interesting guy, if you don't mind just hearing him talk randomly about words and their origins, and usually finding some way to link something to religion. I enjoyed his class, but most people in my class complained about never getting higher than a B on a paper regardless of their perceived improvements, but I didn't have that problem.
I really loved this class. Walters is very pleasant, and yes, grammar is a big deal as is word usage, or better said, word choice. He loves language and rewards creative use of it, though he doesn't care for wordiness just for the sake of showing off your ability to use a thesaurus. B's are common, but A's are possible, as I got A's on my papers.
Excellent teacher. Very intelligent and willing to help you improve no mater how high or low the skill level your starting at is.
He is a great teacher, makes you think. he is very funny.
great class, very easy. as long as you write what he wants and write it in a grammatically correct way you will be fine. he is a linguist and cares a lot about words and how you use them, but it is overall a very easy course
prejudice and gets away with not teaching class properly.
Does NOT like women!! He was telling the guys in our class how to test a girlfriend to see if she would be a good wife.
Very nice and willing to help you as a writer.
He is a pretty easy going guy. Often he extends papers and when writing your paper really pay attention to detail and keep the paper conversational. Oh also he wears the same SHORT shorts everyday!!!!
He's very helpful when you ask him a question.
great professor
i think the class is 142. great teacher. i have him for bible as literature. loooooooooooove it.
I'm so glad he was my english teacher. Great experience. Deffinatly my favorite teacher thus far.
Bible as Lit. He goes on pointless tangents that are not relevant, and does not teach anything throughout the class. When test and quiz day arrives, you better have read the ridiculous assignments thoroughly, otherwise you are going to fail it. He basically teaches this as a theology class, which it isn't and shouldn't be.
not so bad as a teacher, but he makes it worth going to class because hes so hot!
'Dumbs down' grammar -- more of a High School class than the College level course I was looking forward to. Best way to get ahead is not to be too knowledgeable or academically ambitious, as this seems to inspire an annoyance verging on hostility. Actually very discouraging. I just want to get through it.
He's a pretty good teacher. He's a linguist himself, so that probably affects his approach to other classes; here, though, he was very open to original research and helpful with advice. He is a bit prone to going on tangents.
Not only was the class a huge disappointment intellectual wise, he is too full of himself to teach properly. The only credit I can give him is that I learned tons about epistemology. Unfortunately, that wasn't what the class was about and NOT what we were graded on. Managed to get a B+ but overall, this class is a huge joke.
It was easy to write papers for the class because he gave you all kinds of ideas, no real outline for them and he graded hard (bc he's a linguist, probably). Couldn't read his writing. We only used death of ivan ilych and hodges harbrace and even then the harbrace we only used the last few weeks of class. Also his eyebrows go up and down
Professor Walters is a hard teacher, but it pays off. Everything he teaches can be used in the real world. Hard, but a good class.
Had Prof. Walters for english and for bible as lit. First impression wasn't great, but after giving him a chance, I found that I really do well with his teaching style. He likes to lay the foundation of a topic, then let students pursue whatever aspect of it interests them most for papers. He wants students to learn what they're passionate about.
He is a hard grader on your papers, probably a good thing, but you can't read his writing so it doesn't really help much. He really doesn't do much for the class besides give assignments. It's pretty useless.
Good guy. His lectures are kinda boring, but not too boring. He is very firm and strict, but not too much. I like how all of our papers are on things we choose. not too bad.
He is a very strict grammer grader. He brought down my paper one whole letter grade for a few misplaced commas. When I went to edit my papers to improve my grade, I couldn't read his writing, so it was completely pointless his commenting on my paper. But I do appreciate the fact that we have the freedom to write whatever we want to write about.
First class I ever took, and he made it a great experience. Make sure to READ your papers before you turn them in, it's obvious if you don't. He provides lots of opportunities in class for peer review. One book reading requirement, READ IT! It's not a book you can skim through. Put some effort into this class and you'll find it enjoyable.
I love bible lit class. I'm so sad it's over. Whether you know a lot or a little about the bible this class will give you a great overview. Walters makes learning the bible fun, memorable and relatable to our lives today. He sparks our imaginations and encourages analysis so we understand these ancient stories. Great teacher. Great man.
Walters challenges his students in just the right way so they will want to be better writers. He's passionate, insightful, intelligent and triggers inspiration in his students, but be thou ware, he grades precisely. He lays out what he's looking for on the syllabus;so define the words and write accordingly. Wish I could have Walters for every class
Do not take him if you really want to learn something other than how to handle your personal relationships. he does not talk about anything useful. Easy Professor if you want to ditch class
To the person who said he doesn't teach you anything - That is very inaccurate. He is very insightful, and helps you refine your writing the way a college student should write. I suggest taking him! He is helpful, nice, and funny. On the first day his expectations seem intimidating, but he works with you to get you where you need to be!
Very dry teacher. It is sometimes impossible to pay attention because he just continues on with terms when everyone already gets the point. He grades very hard, and hardly ever gives out A's.
Walters has a dry sense of humor but because he is a hard grader he gets you to refine your writing style. If you want to learn to be a better writer, choose Walters.
This class is only challenging if you're not at the college level prior to entering the class. If our high school teachers were a little more like Walters and didn't just hand out grades, maybe Walters would get more papers that deserved A's. I respect him immensely for having standards.
His grading standards are extremely high, and it is almost impossible to get an A. The class is strictly writing papers and then a multiple choice final. Not that hard of a class, you will just have to work super hard if you want an A.
Not bad. As long as you spend time writing, you'll do fine. He does rough drafts and gives great feedback.
Tough, but good.
Not helpful, very dry, didn't learn anything in class. He doesn't teach, he just talks about things that have nothing to do with the assignments. The final and midterm are hard, you NEED to study everything. They're both accumulative and fill in the blank, you better be good at memorizing 100 terms. Save yourself the trouble, do not take.
He is a very good professor! While his grading is strict, he allows you to revise it and get a better grade. Sometimes he can be unclear in his assignments, but he answers all the questions you have and is willing to help you in any way possible. I learned a lot in his class! I would definitely take him again.
good teacher
He's a great teacher.
funny and nice
He was a nice guy he just didn't know how to stay on topic. He either rambled on a lot about nothing or talked about being a Linguistic. It was an easy class but I hated going because it was SO boring..
You learn a lot in the class.
There's a lot of work, but he'll help you when you need help. A great teacher.
I will never take his class again... not teach anything in the books that I bought. the assignments are unclear. He talks a lot, but he does not focus on the what he supposed to teach. the paper he grade is extremely tough.
Prof. Walters is a very intelligent man but do not make the mistake of being "pretentious" because he'll make you feel like an idiot very quickly. He's a good teacher, though I can't recall any real lectures. His assignment for Tolstoy was depressing, but hey if you like to work like an editor, Walter's is for you. I hope your grammar is perfect!
Professor Walters is definitely a tough grader on papers, but if you put forth the effort you will do just fine. I overall enjoyed the class and learned quite a bit from it. If you have good grammar and experience writing papers then it should be a fairly simple and straight forward class.
Prof. Walters is very helpful and friendly towards you so long as you're respectful of him and other students. He grades a little tough, but he always has a good reason for it. However, his assignment explanations are rather confusing at times, but if you ask him he'll usually clear it up for you.
Worst professor ever. He grades papers real tough. I did not learn anything at all. He doesn't teach. Did not use textbook. I have taken his class twice and had "d's" both times. That says alot. He should not even be a professor he is better off being a spokesperson.
It was a grammar class. Not really about content.
He rambles on about random stuff not even related to english. His assignments are confusing. he cares a lot about grammar, not your content or organization. I would not recommend him.
You must know your grammar to succeed in this class cuz it counts alot. Lol. Walters is a tough grader, and he will find each and every mistake/flaw in your paper. You will learn a lot from him, but his attitude towards his students is unacceptable. When he assigns papers, his requirements are often unclear, and he grades really tough.
Difficult man.
Mr Walters is the most difficult English teacher I have ever encountered. I was the only person in my class to get an A, and that was after many hours on every paper. At the beginning of the semester he warned students they may want to drop his class. At the end of the semester, I noticed almost half of students has quit. This is not an easy class!
He has high standards, but you can get an A if you work hard on the papers.
Very passionate about English and what he teaches. Doesn't really help too much with questions. Lectures can get really boring really fast. I personally was not a huge fan.
He's a good teacher. You learn a lot in the class.
He's really nice.
He's a great teacher. And this is an interesting class. You learn alot.
To be honest this class was very difficult for me. He grades pretty hard in my opinion. Although the only good thing about his class is that he doesn't give a lot of assignments. Sometimes his lecture are about irrelevant thing like his life and doesn't really teach English. Warning , if you lack grammar skills don't take his class.
Loved this class!
He grades tough on papers, in class assignments do not count for much. We had 3 papers and that is what most of your grade is based on, so if you don't get an A on your papers, don't expect an A in the class. Not much info given on proper ways to write, so if you don't already write excellent don't expect to learn in class, but he will help.
He doesn't explain what you messed up on when you write papers. Also his hand writing is hard to read. I took this class over the summer and we had three papers and I believe only two quizzes, one on characters and settings from the story and one on homophones. You have to read the story. He's not mean, occasionally funny, and overall, not bad.
He's very boring. He talks about irrelevant things and just rambles on and on. His handwriting sucks so you can't read his feedback on papers not very helpful with correcting paper things. Waste of time don't take him he's very boring and talks about nothing that's important.
challenging and interesting class
smart man, good teacher
Professor Walters was a very good professor, but a tough grader. You have to work hard for your grade. There are a few quizzes, but as long as you show up to class you should have no problem passing.
Professor Walters is an amazing teacher. Best english teacher at Rock Valley hands down. He gives great feedback on all of your papers. He talks a lot but he is a very smart man so everything he says is worth listening to. I would definitely take him again!
best teacher at rock valley in my opinion. he has high expectations for all of his students but tries his best to make sure that all of the students reach those expectations.
He is a good professor, but he is a really tough grader! He does tell you what he expects, and the work you will have to do up front. He leaves many notes on papers, but you cannot read most of it. He has a good sense of humor.
Walters was my favorite professor at RVC. He is a tough grader but genuinely wants to see you improve your writing. His lectures are very interesting, though he will sometimes talk a lot. Listen to him and you won't have any issues in this class.
He has high expectations and wants to see you improve, but 60% of the grade is on the research paper and final exam. The rest is from all the practice papers and couples quizes. He goes on tangents a lot during lecture, and don't expect to be able to read comments he leaves on your papers. Lots of reading for the research project!! Need the books.
Mr. Walters is a great professor. He does ramble a bit. While there aren't many assignments, there are a couple of quizzes and three papers on which he is very attentive to grammar, style, and detail. Don't take this class if you need help with grammar. He expects you to understand grammar concepts and to look them up if you are unsure.
His classes are basically pointless but he requires that you go to class. He doesn't teach you anything and then expects you to write great papers. He also doesn't believe in computer because they "hurt his eyes" so he just puts in a final grade at the end of the semester and says that you have to "keep track of your score yourself".
Most classes are pretty pointless but he does count attendance. You never actually get to know your grade because he doesn't use EAGLE. The writing lab is a really good resource before you turn in the paper. The class overall isn't bad, but I never actually knew what my grade was but it turned out to be a B.
cares a lot about himself. he calls himself a linguist. other than that he is a decent teacher. I would take him again.
Walters is a very good professor. He has super high expectations for grammar in your papers and does expect you to look up anything you are confused on. His grading is basically a mystery until final grades are posted, but as long as you actually do the work you should be fine.
Great time with him. Class can tend to be boring. Little work and it is not hard.
The class has no structure or real lectures. Tells you attendance is mandatory, but never actually teaches anything during class time. Make sure you never miss more than 6 days because at the end hell drop your grade down a letter grade. The essays arent particularly hard, but the final is all over things he never went over. Do not recommend.
Knowledgeable, his lectures are informational but long. Only negative is that you cant read his handwriting but he will go over corrections with you
First English professor I had at RVC. Gave a lot of wonderful feedback on my papers, lots of peer reviewed work. Took a little while ago, but he refused to use Eagle so you have to check your grades in person. Very easy class if youre coming out of high school with decent writing skills.
He doesn't use Eagle which sucks when trying to look at grades. Lots of reading and make sure you understand everything you read. Lectures are super boring and drag on but overall he seems like a nice guy.
This was a fun and interesting class. The class was fairly easy, but grades hard on grammar and punctuation.
Favorite class I have ever taken at Rock Valley. I love this professor and this class. It is honestly a must!!!!!!
Talks to students as if they are stupid and don't know what they are doing. He is a decent grader and makes you fully aware of what he expects from you. No textbook is mandatory, but there are a few books you must buy and read. Kind of a creepy professor, but nice. Gives you plenty of time to work on essays in class.
The class is a lot of work, but it's all doable and you learn a lot.
Professor Walters refuses to keep an electronic grade book whatsoever. He is not on Eagle, and will not take the time to tell you your grade when you ask. He has a huge paper grade book, and I had NO IDEA what my grade was the entire semester. If you're like me and want to know your grade in the class before the last day of class, do not take him.
Don't take this professor if you're not willing to work hard. The class will teach you a lot if you're up to it though.
By far, he is the worst teacher i've taken so far. He does not do grades by numbers, instead its only letter base. So knowing your grade at any point in the semester is out of the question. He is never available out of class time and he is vague on guidelines for big papers. Do Not Take
This class is a lot of work. You get better at writing because of it though. Take it when you don't have other hard classes.
I had Walters for ENG101 in the summer and honestly did not like his teaching style. He wasted time by talking about irreverent topics. He does 2 small papers and a research paper//final (30%). He was nice about letting us miss 6 days of class this semester but I dont like he didnt use Eagle. i never knew my grade till the end.
You'll have to go to class and do all the work, but you can earn an A. He's a hard grader, but fair.
You learn how to read the Bible as poetry and stories. He has lots of great insights and interpretations. There's a lot of reading and a research paper, but it's not too hard of a class.
Don't take this class, I'm still enrolled and I hate the class. He talks abt nothing all hour and instructions for papers is vague. I have no idea what I have in the class either because he doesn't use Eagle.
Walters grading is harsh and its difficult to get an A in the class thats reasonable enough. The papers he assigns, specifically the research paper worth 30% of your grade, have vague guidelines. His lectures are also useless and not at all relevant to the class. Hell start by talking about grammar and end on the Texas interstate system.
I personally think hes a good teacher. I wont lie, he is tough, but he is honest about it. He gives 6 absences which is really nice. If you arent willing to work, dont take this class. Also kind of strict about phones which is understandable. But overall a good class!
The class has an interesting approach to the Bible. It changed the way i read it.
There's lots of reading and writing . . . but I guess that's what you should expect in an English class. He makes you work, but he's nice and he's fair in grading.
Took his online class. Zoom meetings are mandatory and he won't give you attendance points if your webcam is not on. Guess he doesn't realize some people take online classes because they can't be at school during the day. Don't take his class unless you have an hour and a half to attend the zooms.
zoom meetings mandatory, with your camera on. Lots of reading and research done outside of class. There are rarely ever assignments that are due besides the assigned readings to discuss in class, the midterm, research paper, and final exam. Hard to keep track of grades because he doesn't use eagle. Tends to go off topic a lot during lectures.
Lots of reading and writing required. Has high standards but is extremely helpful and wants you to succeed. Like how you get to revise your papers for a higher grade.
He made me feel dumb.
Professor Walters is a very good teacher he does work you pretty hard but it is definitely worth it because he actually makes you better at English. He does take attendance every day but also is very laid back if you are only late a few day. Only compliant is that he never uses eagle to post when due dates of papers. WRITE DOWN DUE DATES
Great professor! The class helps you become a better writer. Like how you get to revise your essays for a higher grade.
I took this course in the summer. It was a two month course, and the course was loaded. The biggest part of this is writing three papers. For the first two papers, you write a rough draft and share it with the people that sit by you, which is actually sort of helpful. No Eagle use, which means you can't check your grade online. Lectures are long.
Attendance and participation are very mandatory to get a good grade! There are three papers and the final is worth 50%. There is not much homework. He is a good teacher and will help improve your grammar mechanics. If you are looking for an easy "A", I would not recommend it. It is a class that you will have to put work in.
Great Professor, who had his moments where I felt my writing was improving, however I would not recommend if you don't take criticism well, gives constructive criticism but at times will make you feel incompetent. His lectures are long and hard to follow, he also prides himself on being "Old School" and not like other professors.
How could you not get a good grade if you just come to class and do the work? He lets you revise your essays for a higher grade. It's too easy!
Professor Walters isn't an easy teacher, but that's good because he pushes you and makes you work and you learn and become a better writer. He makes you want to do better work.
I took Walters Fall Semester of 2023, and I really enjoyed the class. Walters is pretty easygoing, and as long as you put in effort on papers and pay attention to deadlines, you will MOST DEFINITELY pass. He gives amazing feedback, and genuinely cares about his students, something I cannot say for other professors I've had. Would recommend Walters!
Some of the papers are kinda hard work, but you learn a lot in the class.
He's pretty laid back in class, but he's kinda tough when it comes to papers and tests.
The class looks at the Bible as stories and poems and gives you an interesting perspective on it. There's alot of reading, but it's spread out. I liked the way the teacher raises questions and criticizes the Bible. Also the research paper reports from students were good.
Professor Walters runs a challenging but rewarding ENG101 class. The workload is heavy, but he provides great feedback to help improve your writing. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for study prep.
Dropped his class after 3 weeks because the vibe of his classroom was very uncomfortable and he as a person just didn't sit right with me. he treats you like you're still in high school and will embarrass you in front of the class (yelled at a kid in front of everyone for being on his phone for emergency reasons). If you can, don't take his class.
He's a tough teacher, but that's okay. You feel like he really cares that you learn and improve. I learned a lot in the class, and it's helping me in 103.
Professor Walters offers lots of deep insights into the stories and poems in the Bible. I actually had fun reading the Bible! He picked the best parts for us to read.
Make sure you remember the names of the people in the bible, that is around 90% of the quiz questions. The only tests besides this are the midterm, final, and a 9-11 page research paper.
He's an old Professor, but a cool one. It's kinda hard to tell when he's serious. He wants to make everything a game.
He has you do debates and write papers based off of the debates. There's also a big research paper. Cares a lot about grammar and punctuation when he grades your papers. Good teacher and a nice guy.
Walter's English class was good. He's maybe a little too picky when it comes to grading but that's the only problem. Me and my friend who also had him for English might take him fo bible literature next fall.
Walters does not upload grades or deadlines to eagle. I found it hard to thrive in his class due to teaching style. Walters often rambles/repeats himself, sprinkling important information between tangents. He doesn't use eagle or provide permanent written deadlines, sometimes jots them down on the whiteboard. Doesn't often provide clear rhetoric.
He's laid back and cool. I liked all the debates and group writing.
My only complaint is he's not open to AI.
Personally, I liked him. His class is lots of work, but you learn and improve your writing. Warning: If you take his class, don't use ChatGPT. I had a friend who got caught using it and got an F on the paper.
Do not take Professor Walters if you want to be set up for failure. He's very old school to the point that he said he should already be retired. He doesn't tell you your grade in the class until the semester ends hence why I got a C. I would stay after class to ask him questions and he wouldn't answer them, get mad, and give me attitude.
I had Professor Walters in the summer. He is nice, but he is old-fashioned. None of his class is on eagle/canvas. You don't get to see your grade until the end of the class or if you ask him. He spends most of class talking about other stuff. If you do the work, you will pass.
He's a tough grader.
