Cares what you think, and is very smart. Good teacher all around and a good guy to know. Take his classes!
incredible class, very effective and dynamic teaching
Russian history. Very cool class, but a bit boring. The tests were very fair, and I pulled off an A easily.
Ben is a fabulous teacher. He makes history come alive through our daily discussions of how it affects us personally. He is very fair in his grading and he has a great sense of humor. I highly recommend him.
Good teacher fuan and enjoyable class, very easy to relate to
Great Class. Fun, informative, and enjoyable. Great teacher, best there is.
Ben is an amazing teacher. His lectures are actually related to the subject and he relates history to your every day life. His grading style is a little on the hard side, but he is definitely one of the best teachers that i have had at COD. take him.
Great teacher! The tests are all essay so thats a bit difficult, but the class is great!
Wonderful instructor. Easy to get along with and easy to listen to lectures. Makes lectures apply to daily life (even though it was history). Very accommodating with health issues when you can't make a class. Keeps you interested. HIGHLY recommended!
If you don't do the readings, you are SCREWED. Other than that, it was an AWESOME class.
I have had ben 4 times and each time is better than the last. He is very willing to help after class and also allows history majors like myself to talk history or politics during his business hours. Wonderful teacher, one of the best I have every had.
Ben is hilarious, and he makes Russian history so awesome. He definitely knows his stuff, he's even a doctor! Sometimes the class gets way off track, but it's always a very interesting and informative tangent, which I like. Great class.
Great guy. Unlike other history teachers, this guy will actually make the class fun. 2 papers, 3 exams and a presentation is all u have to do for the qtr. Recommended for anyone who is looking for minimal work and listening to interesting lectures everyday.
overall pretty good teacher
A very good history teacher who genuinly loves his job.
As a history major I can say Ben is the best history professor I have ever had, period. Highly recommended. Lectures are engaging and very enjoyable. Workload is quite manageable and helps develop understanding of the material covered. A very concise and fun professor!
I had him for American History at NIU. Great teacher. I learned a bunch of interesting tidbits. I’m a math and science guy but he made American History 1965-present interesting. Wow! How did he do that? Tests were very fair. Take him for sure.
For his class you don't even need to buy a book, just take good notes and you will pass with flying colors.
Great lectures! But if you don't read the books, you're screwed. And you're only allowed 3 absences - which sucks. But other than that - great classes and the best teacher I've had so far
I had Ben for 3 classes, Russian History, Poly Sci 101 and History 257. He is by far the best teacher I have ever had. Not only does he make class fun, but he is intelligent and loves what he teaches. Also he is a great person to talk to about everything and anything. :)
He is a really good teacher that is willing to help, when it is needed. If you take good notes in his class and read some of the book, then you will get an A. He gave out a review sheet before each test, so you knew what was going to be on the test. If he likes you, he really likes you.
Ben is the best teacher I have ever had because he makes history so much fun. He gives a study guide for his tests, but make sure you use not only your notes but book info. too, like names on tests. He is the funnest teacher and I would recommend him to anyone
Made the class very interesting and is very funny. If you go to class and pay attention you'll do good. He's a great teacher. Really enjoyed his class and actually learned some things too... Definitely recommend!
He is by far the best teacher I have ever had at COD. Everything he talked about was interesting. I looked forward to going to his class. The lectures and discussions were fun. Vary fair and understanding teacher!
Awesome teacher. He has a hysterical sense of humor and is very accommodating if you need help. I've been in two classes he taught at NIU and would definitely recommend any of his classes.
I am currently in his class. His sense of humor is one of a kind. I really appreciate it. I look forward to going to class. It is one of the only have that I have taken where the professor doesn't take attendance and almost everyone shows up. I will be taking other history classes with him in the future.
made a boring subject interesting. i didn't do that great in his class but i'd still recommend him. funny guy
Simply the best Professor I've ever had. He is the reason I switched to a History major. He is so funny and you really learn in his class. Everyone should take him whether you like history or not.
Ben is an awesome teacher! He makes everything so interesting and fun. I had him for an honors course, so it was pretty tough. There we had to read two books, write an 8 page research paper, and take long tests. But I would definitly take him again!!
marvellous. want a, no problem. will give total of 8 questions before the test which will definitely be on the test. If properly written answers, can get more than 95 out of 100. He has made boring history very interesting. What a funny teacher!!!! take him and you will love it.
FUNNIEST TEACHER EVER! If you're going to take History...take his class!!!!!!!!! The lectures are interesting, DO THE READING, not much note taking in this class but DO THE READING! The 2 essay finals are kinda hard but he gives you the questions in the beginning of the semester and you'll do fine if you've done the reading!!
Ben is a phenomenal teacher. Classes are mostly discussion based which is awesome! The discussions were intelligent and his stories are great. Very knowledgable and understandable. Tests are a little difficult, and he has one research paper that was really a lot of fun to write! Even if you're NOT interested in History, take it with Ben!
MR. W is the funniest teacher ever! If you want to take a history class and get a laugh out of it, he's the perfect teacher. DO THE READING, that make everything else easier. I recommend this teacher for sure!!
One of the BEST teachers I have ever had. I am not a history person and have never been good at history, but Ben made this class fun and interesting! I really enjoyed this class and he is an awesome, funny, great teacher! I would HIGHLY recommend him!
My number one teacher
I'm in his class now and I LOVE IT! I really look fowrard to going to his class. He makes you want to know about history. His lectures are cool because he jokes about them. He also seems like he enjoys what he does and I respect trully respect that. He really knows the subject too. I would TOTALLY RECOMMEND him as a teacher any day!
Simply the best teacher I have ever had. He is so funny, yet you learn a ton. I gladly got up everyday to go to his 8:00 AM class. You MUST take this teacher while at COD.
He's witty and often sarcastic but that's what makes him interesting. Unless you have a tape recorder in your head you should take notes when he lectures or you won't survive. Though he doesn't really use the textbook he makes you read two novels and you'll have to do a book report on both as a replacement for in-class quizzes.
I am not a big history guy but Prof. Whisenhunt is an awesome teacher and this class interested me a lot thanks to him. He's funny, explains the meaning and connection of historical events and also has a lot of experience and knowledge. He's a lot of fun and grades fairly easy as long as you do the work. Awesome professor!
Wisenhunt is an awesome teacher, i would definitely take him again. Go to class and take notes, but if you don't you can still research the topic later for the final/midterm. He's awesomely sarcastic, and teaches his history class with a little humor. history, funny? oh, yeah.
Ben is one of the funniest teachers ever. He makes teaching history fun by telling jokes and being a little bit sarcastic in a good way. You never know what will come out of his mouth next. He gave me a brighter view on american history. It is not so glamorous as I thought. I would recommnded him to anyone who wants to take a history class at COD.
Ben is interesting. He has this thing with canadians. haha and hes just all around funny. Makes history a lot more interesting. He concentrates on writting. His test are essays. Which at first i was scared but there actually a lot better than multiple choice. Id say you should attend class for his notes.
Ben is probably one of the most laid back history teachers i have ever had. he's super funny and some how makes you interested in the class. theres 2papers really easy, one you can pick when you want to turn it in. he's funny, loves russia, says funny things about the government, and he knows wat he's talking about. take his class
What can I say that already hasn't been said? I'm a history major, and there are dry teachers out there, but Ben is fantastic. He brings history to life, and makes it easy to learn, understand, and show how it relates to your everyday life. Go to every class, it's worth it! I've taken three of his classes already!
Ben Whisenhunt makes history amazing, and I personally am not crazy about Russian history. He's hilarious, knowledgable, and he really makes the class enjoyable :) I would take him again in a heartbeat!
I liked this teacher alot. His lectures are interesting and relevant to the tests, which are four essay questions. I have no complaints about him or the class at all.
He is funny, he really knows what he is talking about, very interesting lectures. No tests. Only four easy essays. I would take him again.
Ben is a very interesting professor. He teaches in a matter that makes you listen, all of his lectures are very interesting. You will never fall asleep in his class. If you are bad at writing papers than this isn't the class for you because the your grade is based of 4 essays.
I thought taking an honors class was going to be super hard but Ben actually made it a lot of fun. We had to read two really stupid books but with only two tests with 8 questions total and 3 papers to write it was an easy class. Plus Ben knows how to make boring history actually interesting.
Best history prof at COD. Great prof... you should definitely take him. Only a mid-term and a final, both had 4 page long questions. You get about 7 - 10 questions a week before the midterm and final as a study guide for, and he selects 4 from the study guide for you to answer. so it is pretty easy to get an A.
he's a very great teacher. I never thought someone could be so passionate about teaching history. If you have any questions he is very helpful and will try his best to facilitate your needs. If you go to every class, listen and participate you'll know a lot about history. Absolutely take his clasS! you don't know what you're missing!
None if these other commentators know what they are talking about. He is a bad teacher. He thinks he knows a lot but he doesnt. He always tells jokes but he whispers the punchline and no one laughs. He makes you read and write essays about very boring books. He makes it seem like the womens movement is the most important thing to ever happen. Avoid
"pizza hut is very good in Russia", ben whisenhunt..ok class..kinda boring and i liked the book things fall apart by chinua achebe...my favorite....
Great teacher. He is funny and will work with you so there is no reason for you to get a high great. Take his class.
He is great! He's really funny, and he actually made history interesting! I hate the subject, and the books were pretty boring, but he made it understandable. Absolutely take his class if you have to take history!
Great professor. Self-admittedly forgetful, which can be funny at times. Openly encourages dialogue within his classroom. Uses multimedia well, and keeps topics interesting and understandable. History buffs as well as novices can both gain knowledge from him. I'm in World History 20th Century, 2 tests, 2 book essays. Do the reading, get an A!
Ben is a really effective teacher. I have found his teaching method to be really good, since in the past i have had really bad history teachers it is nice to have one that is really good!!!!!
each class is a lecture, he takes attendance but only for his job, if youre their the majority of the time you'll be fine. two book anysis, midterm and finals are your only grades. hes a fun teacher though, id recommend him easy
Whisenhunt is the man! I had him for Russian History in Fall 09 and he's my favorite teacher so far at COD. Its obvious russian is his area of expertise and he is very passionate about it, and he has lots of good stories to tell about his trips to Russia (especially involving gypsy bandits)
Great teacher. I had a number of classmates who were constantly interrupting; Ben was extremely patient and able to get the point of his lectures across in entertaining fashion. I really got a kick out of his twisted sense of humor.
Ben was a great teacher, extremely knowledgeable in every way when it came to US History. Also has a great dry sense of humor, which always kept class entertaining. The class consisted of 3 tests and 2 essays, as long as you study a bit and do the work, the class will be a great experience.
Awesome all the way around!! Hilarious! Smart! 2 book reports 2 tests! Not bad!! Loved his class and planning on taking him again!!
I took Ben for Russian History, and couldn't have been more pleased! He's sarcastic, and wonderfully glib in all his presentations and lectures, which makes for an engaging & hilarious class. He enjoys teasing students, and often pokes fun at ignorant institutions- he's very well rounded & extremely down to earth. Kinda hot too if he's your type ;)
Ben is a great professor who is edecated in his area of teaching. However, he is also sensible enough to know that most of his students dont want to be history majors and simply need the credit. He is also sarcastic an witty which makes the class very enjoyable.
This teacher is the best to take if you want an easy A. He knows what hes talking about and his classes are always enjoyable. The class requires of some reading but they are not bad.
Ben is a real cool guy. Very smart guy that knows a lot about life in general. History class was not hard at all 2 test and 2 book reports. Test are all essay question given to you before hand. I was lazy and got a B in the class if i would have turn things in on time easy A. Take his class if you need a History credit.
His class is really straight-forward. 2 book reports and 2 essay tests. He gives you the questions before the test tho. I hate taking history courses but Prof. Whisenhunt was interesting and knows a lot. I learned a lot of random interesting things. Recommended.
Great professor! He lectures are kind of like stories; he sits in a chair and talks the whole time, but its interesting information coming from him, and he makes a lot of sarcastic jokes throughout. Come test time (which were essays) you do have to have studied/reviewed notes or the book a bit, but it's not too bad. Definitely take!!
Awesome teacher ! smart, cool and funny!! Learned alot he made the class more fun
Ben is AWESOME. He teaches a variety of classes and each one is interesting. He makes learning fun and exciting so you don't want to sleep during class. He only has 2 papers and 2 exams a semester (including the final exam). He has alot of personal experience which makes his stories fun to hear. TAKE HIM!!! Super cool and laid back.
Prof Whisenhunt is a great teacher! He is very sarcastic and makes class fun :) He has tonssss of interesting stories and experience! There are two essay tests (questions given on studyguide) & two research essay papers (have to read two novels). Not a blow off class but very educational and fun!Highly recomended
Overall great class/professor. However, Ben does come off as being arrogant and overly sarcastic.. It's funny at first but over the course of an entire semester it gets kinda old. -He also talks about Russia a little too much (his area of expertise) and constantly makes correlations to Russia/USSR with every topic we ever discussed. you'll see...
Actually made me interested in history. If you don't get an A in his class then something is wrong with you.
Knows his history. Great teacher and quite funny at times. Very harsh grader though and class consists of 2 book reports and 2 test so very easy to fail.
Don't need the textbook, his lectures cover everything. Don't really need to buy the two novels, I got A papers and read maybe a chapter of each tops.
A+ teacher, really top knotch. He makes classes which would already be interesting even better and covers all of the important subjects. Class consists of 2 essay based tests and, depending on your class, 2+ reviews. I've had two classes with him and if I were here longer, I'd take even more. A fantastic teacher who makes class super interesting.
AMAZING teacher! Truly loves what he does. Class is very fun enjoyable and informative. It is not an easy A but if you attend class and take notes you will be fine. He covers everything you need to know in a memorable way. Would definitely take another class with this professor!!!
The best professor/teacher I have ever had. He clearly loves what he does and is very talented at it.
Professor Whisenhunt is a brilliant man. He is a perfect combination of humor and intellect, and odds are he'll be your favorite teacher the semester you take him. Most classes are lectures (some videos), but he is a great story teller and I never needed to ask a question because he was clear as a bell.
By far one of the most funniest teachers I had in my educational career. He swears all the time, but he is smart. It's hilarious
He is just amazing. Keeps learning fun and makes you laugh all the time. He is a fair grader and his assignments are not very difficult if ou just do the work. I'm taking another class with him next semester!
He was a very fun teacher. explains things well. you don't really need the book if you take good notes. Awesome History Teacher..
I was enrolled in one of Professor Whisenhunt's Russian History courses, very intriguing semester. Has a great sense of humor, positive attitude, and interesting stories/firsthand experiences of Russia. Definitely recommend him.
I was enrolled in one of Professor Whisenhunt's Russian History courses, very intriguing semester. The professor has a great sense of humor, positive attitude, and interesting stories/firsthand experiences of Russia. Definitely recommend him.
Honestly one of the best professors I've had. Lectures are interesting and he genuinely wants everyone to pass. I'm taking another class with him in the fall!
Honestly hes a funny and nice guy but theres not enough he does for the class overall. Really random
He is by far one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is super funny and makes the class interesting. He is extremely knowledgeable about history and very helpful. I would definitely take him again!
Whisenhunt is a great teacher! I rarely had to use the book, but if it's better for you to learn from a book then lectures, the book he used was a great one! He is really sarcastic and funny, and tells funny stories in class. Only two papers and two tests so the grading is pretty clear cut. Definitely would take again!
Best teacher at COD. No final exam, two tests, two papers. Done! Also you learn a ton of fun facts about history. He'll make you want to become a history major. I want to take all of his classes.
Five, 1,250 word essays (50 points a piece), one in class essay (50 points a piece), and 100 participation points. Kind of a tough grader on the essays but I did not actually read a single book and pulled off a high B. Going to class and listeningparticipating while taking notes really makes essay writing pretty easy. Get books on Amazon!
very nice teacher and a very fair grader. Prepare for a lot of reading and a lot of writing but the tests are OK. As long as you read the text you will be fine. One of the best classes at COD.
He is very knowledgeable about the subject. His lectures are engaging and makes the subject itself more interesting.
Great teacher!
I found Whisenhunt to be a very good teacher. Most of the classes are him talking and asking questions; however, classes usually go by fast because he always has interesting stories to tell. He is not afraid to voice his opinion on certain matters and is very direct with his students. Overall, he is very knowledgable when it comes to history.
He's laid back in his demeanor, so you have to be careful not to fall behind. But he knows the material well, and makes it funny and interesting.
Knows the subject and keeps you interested. He's funny and has first hand experience; you'll want to go to lectures. Also kind of foxy ;)
Freaking I LOVE WHISENHUNT!!!!! He's SO hilarious, and he's a walking encyclopedia of Russia. His classes are all lecture, but he connects them so that it's like studying one long story all semester. He lets you do your own thing, but always there to help you. Only two tests and three papers for the whole class, so make sure you keep up! LOVE HIM
Offers no feedback, does not state why he took points off, and rarely gave me full credit. I took the 8-week, and he expected 5 chapters, plus a few non-textbook essays, to be read before the discussion post.
Dr, Whisenhunt was was one of the best professors I've ever had. His lectures are hilarious and informative at the same time. He keeps his class interesting which is tough to do with history. He cares about his students and is willing to work with them to help their understanding. 2 papers and 2 essay exams make up the majority of your grade!
Passionate professional still engaged in his field. Dry wit and clear informative discussions pepper a delight of a classroom.
Dr. Whisenhunt was one of the best professors I've ever had!! I had 0 interest in history before taking this class, but he makes it interesting & entertaining! As long as you pay attention during the lectures & try on the homework you will have no problem getting a good grade in this class. I took the 8 week version of this class & had no problems.
Textook is interesting and very informative. I would recommend reading it b/c then you will be less lost in class. In lecture he covers the key points . DO THE REVIEWS ?s at the end of the Ch. in your book. (Wk. before the exam he tells you which ?s to review) THEY ARE THE TEST ?s! There is not a final. 1 book and 2 pg. paper. Book is an ez read.
Pretty Good Overall. Although you must work your butt off to get the best grade. He is a fair grader and doesn't screw you over. Took an online class and it was easy. Was pretty skeptical at first about this instructor. My only advice here is just work hard and you, won's have any problems.
Eager to help students. Everything is weighted equally. 3 multiple choice tests 8 essays total. And discussion posts. He likes detail. He makes 162K which is insane. Wish I was him. THE MAN, the MYTH, and the LEGEND. Take him by all means
Dr Ben is a truly excellent history teacher, because not only does he interject a ton of dry humor into his lectures, but also because he relates the cyclical nature history back to the present. I would highly recommend to anyone, because he makes history interesting, which is no easy task to reach some people.
YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN!!!! The first day on bb I was overwhelmed and confused (i cried). You have to ask for help when it's needed. Normally responds super quickly! !MAJOR TIP! If you're like me and don't like reading every word in the book YOUTUBE is your BFF or just a very helpful way to better understand topics especially for midterm and final!
I took Russian History with Professor Whisenhunt and it was my favorite course to go to this semester going to class twice a week. The reading can be a lot, however he goes through the books on review days before the essays are due. He also has review sheets for the two exams taken in class, and what you are expected to know ahead of time.
His Lectures are Funny and really interesting! You have six books to read throughout the semester and exams based on each book. Exams consist of 2 Essays, 2 Take Home Exams, and 2 In Class Exams. Discusses book in class and the history of the time period. Very knowledgable professor. Would definitely Take Again! :)
He's like a walking, talking encyclopedia of History - really smart professor. His lectures are hilarious and interesting. In the case of the 8 week version of the course, you read 3 Novels, take 2 exams(which aren't hard at all if you read the books/pay attention) and write 2 papers about the books.(Which he helps you with, if you need it.)
There aren't many assignments so you have to make sure to do the work. While he'll work with you if you can't show up for class, it's not wise to skip because the textbook doesn't exactly help with the exams. As long as you put in effort you'll get a good grade.
A lot of reading but do the reading and this class should be an Easy A. Also gives great feedback if you're unsure. Great teacher & Definitely will take more of his classes if the opportunity arises!
Easily one of the most interesting lecturers at College of Dupage. Mr. Whisenhunt is incredibly intelligent and his jokes are honestly hilarious. We read 7 books and wrote 7 papers (2 outside of class, 5 during). I hate reading but I still managed to get an A on nearly every paper. This is how every history class should be taught in my opinion!
Great professor - organized - class is planned out nicely - be ready to read - you will learn a lot and be excited if with what you have learned if you do the work! Great class, and I actually like history after taking this class!
I had Whisenhunt for history of Imperial Russia. The class was long, but he made the lectures interesting. He's really funny and knowledgeable. Would definitely take another one of his classes.
He was a fantastic professor. I had him for Imperial Russia and History of the Soviet Union and I honestly would take these classes over again. Whisenhunt always made his lectures fun and interesting with little work for each class. However, I do recommend not skipping because we typically cover a lot of content in one class period.
Easily the best professor I've had at COD. I've taken multiple classes of his and always jump at the opportunity to take more. If you don't like reading, don't take a history class. He uses normal books instead of textbooks though, it's a great approach. The lectures were always so interesting and he's got a GREAT sense of humor
Very kind and fun. I took Russian History with him two years ago and found lots of parallels with Russian History to Game of Thrones. Very funny, fascinating lectures, encouraging participation (I think it was part of our grade, too). Authentic, engaging, and brings history to life while opening students' eyes to the world with personal anecdotes.
Took as an online course and learned a ton. Very fair grader. 3 class discussions, 2 papers, 3 multiple choice tests and 3 written exams. Gives you everything you need to actually learn and succeed. Responds quickly to emails and is very helpful. Would reccomend.
AMAZING PROFESSOR!!!!! I took his summer class, He gave us 2 books, 2 essays, and 2 test. The books were easy to understand and if you try the tests and essays were not hard at all. Take his class if you actually do want to learn about history while still having fun because he jokes around a lot. By far my favorite professor!
He's hilarious really worth taking. He makes things more fun to remember and he doesn't really believe in favoritism, you get what you get because of how well you read the textbook and out of class book. All that will happen is everyday fun lecture, read the textbook and other book. Two papers and two tests. Keep up with the reading!
The books required for the class are difficult to comprehend, often being completely off topic from his lectures. We would learn something that happened hundreds of years before the period that the book was written in, which makes writing papers difficult. He's a chill prof, but his content is confusing.
Amazing prof! Hilarious, gives clear instructions, and doesn't use textbooks. There were four small books/novels with a paper for each, and that's pretty much it. The lectures and notes are just background info on the books, so skipping a few times doesn't affect you much. Easy class and chill professor.
Really good teacher really funny aswell
Highly recommended. History of Terrorism was a unique class, and he is a unique teacher. 2 tests 2 papers and a take home test. the textbook isn't 100% necessary, but will provide background to help you get an A. Also, he is too funny. I've never met someone so sarcastic and silly.
8 week section: This class consists 3 units, each set up the same way. Reading 5-6 chapters, multiple question discussion board posts and responses, multiple choice unit exam, timed essay exam (2 essays, 500 words each), mid term, and final essay both 5-7 pages. This is a lot of work, don't fool yourself :)
He's really awesome. Took him for history and culture of Russia and he is very educated on the subject. Makes class enjoyable to go to not only because the material he teaches is interesting but he is a funny guy. If you need history credits then I recommend taking him. It's not an easy A but all you gotta do is turn in stuff on time.
Prof Whisenhunt is very interesting to listen to, he teaches great subjects and is very informative of it. He tells you from the beginning what to expect and reminds you of due dates repeatedly. Overall he is a great teacher, 10/10 would recommend.
As an 8 week class, I assumed it would be a lot of work each week. 3 units, each is 4-6 chapters (100-150 pgs). A unit has discussion posts + responses, 50 q multiple choice test, 2 hour timed essay exam with 2 essays that are 500 words each. Also a midterm and final essay both 5-7 pages. Hefty work load, but not too bad. Great class to take!
Clear on assignments and homework. Do the work and get good results
Took the 5-week course but we had to start 2 weeks prior. Professor Whisenhunt was VERY clear on assignments and due dates. Total of 3 MC tests, 1 mid-term and 1 final essay, 3 timed essay exams, and 3 discussion posts. It's very doable but you will need to put in a lot of effort into your work. TIP: Add lots of DETAIL to your work.
Great teacher in general. He is extremely informative and clear on what he wants done. He gives good feedback with what you write but expects you to actually do the work and do the readings. You won't get by doing a half measure.
I took the 8 week online class. There's tons of work, (3 MC tests, 3 essay tests, 3 discussion board posts, and 1 midterm/1 final paper) but it's spaced out nicely and he grades fairly on them. Overall, I had a good experience with this online class. I would take his classes again!
History is my worst subject but I passed with an A. He puts out all the class work a week early so you can work ahead if you need to. There is a lot of reading (I took an 8 week class) and 2 main papers, a midterm and final essay. He is a great professor. Just actually do the reading and complete the assignments and you'll be fine!
I don't like history but this class wasn't too bad. If you like history you will enjoy it. He is super nice and responds very quickly to emails. Everything is posted at once so you can work ahead as much as you want. You actually have to read though. Normally I have been able to get by without reading much, but not with this class.
How you're graded: Two book analysis (150pts total), two take home exams (200 pts total), participation (20pts total). Very easy and chill class. He makes it actually fun to attend lectures and can record lectures if asked to. Wasn't too hard of a class, clear what he wanted and what you had to do to get the grade you want. Def would take again!
I see that he's great in person but, he needs find a better way to teach online. I just read a 1000 page text book and another 100 pages in other sources. There was no lecture or help to make it more interesting. He was responsive, gave feedback but was a tough grader. I did 2 long essays, 3 essay tests, 3 exams & many discussion posts.
I took his class online and he is a very tough grader. If you don't include a lot of detail, you will get below a 60%. He is not lenient and does not give extra chances to redo any discussion posts.
It was intense but not too bad considering it's a 5 week course. The tests are pretty easy considering it's open book and multiple choice questions are from quizlet. It's a lot of unnecessary readings that aren't super essential and a hefty amount of work but as long as you stay on schedule it's not too bad.
Super funny teacher. This was my first history class at COD and he inspired me to take another one. I loved his class and I enjoyed every single lecture. He makes history interesting and engaging. All of his assignments are pretty manageable, make sure you keep up with the workload! Would definitely take him again! 10/10!!!
Everything was terrific about professor Whisenhunt. He is a hilarious teacher and tells comedic stories of the past to his students. The only problem is the class is graded by only 4 take home essays and a few participation points, so those assignments must really have the effort put in. Overall, easy A class!
Great communication and very flexible when it came to assignments. It's a history class, so you will be expected to do some outside research and actually read the text. I like how he has the class at a self-paced level, it makes it efficient to succeed in other classes as well. I appreciate his flexibility!
Class was very easy he has a bunch of repeat stuff from semesters and you can find so much material on his topics. If you don't want to learn about History and want an easy B take this class with Whisenhunt and do the bare minimum easy B.
Very easy going professor, he has worked at COD for long time and is extremely knowledgeable. Very nice guy, and if you have to miss class it wont effect you. Be prepared to read a lot, tests are taken on your own time, and overall would recommend this class to anyone looking for an A.
If you dont really like history take this guy. You need the book for 3 papers, and a midterm paper. The final exam paper and midterm paper are 5 pages and its easy to complete. The tests are on quizlet are are easy. The essay exams you will use the book for. Easy grader and easy class! You can get a A fast in here for the summer!
Easy class and teacher. Quizzes you can look up the answers on quizlet. There is no reason why you cant get a A in here. Easy class but pointless readings.
The class is setup like a writing course instead of history. I wish we learned more about history instead of spending all of our time writing. He also cares more about punctuality and formatting than what you are actually writing about.
