Class is difficult but Mr. Chu makes it fun and interesting.
Professor Chu makes statistics not scary. He took his time to explain things in a way that I could understand. I highly recommend taking him if you need a math class.
Proffessor Chu showed me how interesting this class can be. He knows a lot about the topics and makes it easy for me to understand. He gives a god study guide and you can bring notes for the test.
An amazing professor!!! Had a great time in his class! This is the second time me having this professor, and I am truly glad that I picked him on the first place!
Best stats professor! Enjoyed going to class and learned a lot.
He is Mr. Zen! super patient and makes a class like statistics enjoyable. I actually looked forward coming to class.
He is strict & firm. He has a sense of humor which is amazing, he is very understanding just don't mess with him. Book is a must.
The good: Great sense of humor which helps make the class enjoyable Makes a difficult subject user friendly Quick response to emails/text and grade turnaround is fast! The bad: strict no late assignment accepted. But heard it's a department policy. But still... What I could have done better Do all the assignments and turn them in on time
Take him! He's THAT good!!!
There is a reason I see the same students In Dr. Chu's classes he is knowledgeable enthusiastic caring and respected. He makes me fall in love with learning.
Prof Chu (although awesome professor!) is frustrating as well. I would have given a 5 had the final exam not been filled with questions that could have "two answers" be arguably right. I studied very hard got a B. However, I got an A overall b/c he offers extra credit (DO IT) and half sheet of notes for exams. Study notes AND book! Pop quizzes!
Best teacher Ive ever had, and I am 41. Provides opportunities to ask questions and explains thoroughly. Goes out of his way to allow for learning and extra help. Good personality. Loves his career. Gives extra credit. Hard material but he makes it tolerable and interesting.
There's not much more that I can say about Dr. Chu that hasn't already been said here. He's smart, passionate, caring, makes me want to be a better student everything a professor should be and more. Thanks for a awesome semester!!
Excellent professor. Mr. Chu puts a great focus on quality over quantity in his class. I've had other professors who rushed through the material and I could barely keep up. Not the case in this class! I truly "learned" about psychology in this class, not how to take a test. Highly recommended professor who creates a good learning atmosphere.
Took his class over winter and it was so great. Class is clear and follows the syllabus. Hes funny and understands what hes teaching. Currently taking him for psych 2 then stats. Love this professor!
Dr. Chu made his stats class understandable and enjoyable. Awesome professor, awesome class. amwesome semester!
Such an amazing professor, super goofy. Extremely lecture based, so if you don't show up to class you're super screwed. Pay attention to the slides and write down extra information. Also pay attention and go over notes between days to keep your mind fresh since he gives a quiz almost every week. I highly suggest you take him for Psych.
This professor is really one of the best instructors at Valley college. Not only does he have great lectures but he is so knowledgeable and answers all questions without any frustration. Professor Chu makes it very interesting to learn and the quizzes do help your grade. Tests are straightforward and he gives a study guide to follow. The best!
Professor Chu's stats class is the hardest class I've taken so far. This was my last class before transferring out and it was probably the best choice I made. It was a long semester and you better believe you're gonna work for that grade. 16 weeks, and 20 pounds later, I'm happy to say I passed.
Dr. Chu made Psychology seem like a walk in the park. He does a great job at explaining everything you need to know about the course, and takes advantage of all the time he has to make sure he covers everything. Some pop quizzes to ensure you understood the lesson. Overall amazing professor, highly recommend for anyone looking for a Psych 1 class!
Not a fan of stats in general, but Professor Chu made it pretty easy and understandable. There's homework every week, but it's not even that hard. He isn't a tough grader either, as long as you participate and show that you care you'll be fine. Also if he gives question examples through his lectures write them down, they'll most likely be tested.
Professor Chu's stats class isn't too hard, you just have have to keep up with the assignments. He takes time to explain the hard stuff but he gives you alot of chances to practice and ask questions. He also makes a lot of time outside of class to help. A very nice person, just dont mess with him.
He's truly amazing, knowledgeable in his subject and a very nice classroom atmosphere. Of course you will have to do your part and study just like everything else but he makes the subject very enjoyable. Just take him, you won't regret it. He's funny too!
Fantastic professor! Just do the assignments ask questions if you dont understand something and hes very willing and happy to help. Dont slack off, this is college after all!
Wilson Chu, I one of the best professors I have ever had. He truly made me love bio psych and love learning it. His class prepared me for many other classes and increased my knowledge on this subject completely. He is so fantastic and understanding. The tests are very straight forward and if you study and pay attention, you will get an A. I
Professor Chus quizzes are a piece of cake, but his tests are pretty hard and have many questions that could have more than one answer. Hes also ridiculously nit picky sometimes on discussion posts. I definitely wont be taking him again.
Straight forward class and very easy to follow along. Dr Chu gives lectures that you can relate to and use in your life. Love how he jokes that hes not that kind of doctor when certain questions are asked. 11 quizzes drops one. 2 paper and 2 online assignments 4 exam drops one plus a final.
Dr. Chu goes above and beyond what other professors I had do. He is always available when I needed help and hold extra review sessions right befor exams despite how busy he is. I cant believe how well I understood stats and he makes it fun to learn. Excellent professor and I highly recommend him!!
A professor that can find humor in statistics. He will put a smile on your face.
Easy class. Weekly discussion questions with quizzes and 4 exams. Just read what he post online and you are good to go!
knows what he talks about and explains it in a way that makes sense to me. H gives lots of homework but they help. Not confusing like anthotther prof I took. Also gives extra credit nice prof and he takes the time to know you. Expect to study a lot in the class.
prof chu is fair. the class is clear. he gives lots of assignments so if you mess up it doesn't hurt your grades too much. you need to study and do the assigments. not an easy class but he takes time to helps you if you ask. he's very nice and and learns your name. better than the other prof i had.
Not an easy subject to understand, but Dr. Chu brings humor, fun and clarity to statistics. He makes himself available during all hours to help if you need it. Goes out of his way for his students. He is the best teacher I've had at LAVC. LAVC is lucky to have him.
Professor Chu is one of the best I've had, he is very helpful and takes the time to help you understand things if you don't get them. Furthermore, he is a very firm believer of "you earn what you get"... In conclusion I learned a lot in his class (I actually wanted to go)... P.S: If you still need additional help go to tutoring,.
Great professor that puts in the time to really help You learn. Dont get me wrong its not an easy class but he will take the time to help you during and outside of class. You still need to study. There is a strong positive correlation between the time spent studying and the grade you get in the class. Prof if you are reading this, I remember!!
This Professor is the best. He talks to the class like we are all chatting not just a lecture. He is clear with what he is lecturing on and uses funny examples to explain. He gives pop quizzes but he tells us at the beginning of the class and sometimes gives us hints. He responds quickly to any questions you have and tests not terrible. Take him!
Simply the best professor! He really cares for his students and takes the time to teach us. Def take him!
I never imagined myself saying this, but I had fun in STATS 101! Thanks Dr. Chu for engaging us and making us laugh and learn
Very heavy lectures, but he's actually a pretty good professor. 5 homework and 2 extra credit assignments which are all pretty simple . Take notes and do the assignments and you'll pass. If you take notes, YOU DO NOT NEED THE TEXTBOOK. He gives small, five question quizzes weekly, but they're very easy. He's also kinda corny so its funny.
I love Prof Chu. He is so caring and always trying to be funny. He is an amazing teacher. His lectures are so thorough. You have to go to class because he does random pop quizzes. I hate science and this class has so much biology and I got an A without breaking my head before every test because of how well his lectures are. One of the best teachers
Honestly, I wish he'd teach stats at my UC. He's the best stats teacher & I'm someone who took stats 5 times. He's patient and explains examples in different ways until you get it. He's tough, no notes for exams. Yet, I ended up with a B and it was due in large part to how he taught. He's super helpful in a subject I considered unpassable.
It really sucks that all of my classes moved online. I really like Mr. Chu, he is very nice and tries very hard to help me understand. I had to drop his class, because this virus thing was just o much. I hope to take him again when all this os over.
I LOVE PROFESSOR CHU!! Highly recommend taking a class with him. He truly cares about his students and loves to watch them succeed. A+ rating for him
Great professor. He cares about all his students. Highly recommend.
He is a great teacher and truly cares about his students. I wish LAVC offered more STATS courses so I could take him again.
If you really care about your education and learn statistics the correct way, take him! My friend who took Prof Chu and transferred to CSUN told me because of his class, stats over there was supper easy!
Make sure you do all the assignments in the class. Don't miss any. He doesn't curve the class. Every point counts. He's pretty strict on this. He does give extra credit, so that helps. Overall, I like him a lot. Like others said, he really goes out of his way to help. He does want you to pass, but you NEED to do the work & understand it!
The class I took with him was statistic during pandemic and I am already not really good at math but I tried really hard but he didnt pass me for 1% even after emailing him. Everything was online and it was already really hard to understand.
Bio psych is a tough class with a lot new terms that you need to know, but the way prof chu teaches it, it just makes sense. Great prof. Looking forward to taking his stat class.
Professor Chu really does go out of his way to help you learn statistics. I took Math 227 and it was soo hard!! The prof I had didn't care and couldn't teach. He just expected you to know. Super frustrating! Very glad I took this class. I have to say I learned a lot more after taking STATS 101 than I did taking Math 227!
Good guy, but his workload and grading is unfair. He gives lots of discussions that require peer replies. These aren't even easy points, as he is so picky in what he wants. His mc quizzes and exams are filled with answer choices that can have at least two possible right answers. Pick the answer he doesn't prefer.. lose two points. Stressful class.
It's your typical psych1 class. pretty common sense stuff. easy to follow along. nothing surprising.
He was average when the year started and was in person but when we switched to online it was hard to keep up with. If you have technical difficulties welp that sucks for you. If you turn your stuff on time and complete but he cant open it you get big points off. Even if you pay attention during class youll most likely still do bad on the tests.
He is a great professor but you have to put in the work to succeed. Be aware that he will not round up, even if you are 1 point away. He does offer extra credit so make sure to do that to be safe.
Dr. Chu wants nothing more than to see you succeed. He spends the time and effort to explain things to you, however, you still have to study. I would say that he's tough, but very fair and understanding. I would take any class with him again in a heartbeat!
Dr. Chu breaks down the tough material so that I can understand it easier. Gives lots of helpful and relatable examples. Easy class if you pay attention.
Super easy. Pay attention to what he talks about in class and what he goes over during the review sessions he has right before the exams and you'll do well. Test questions are similiar.
Yeah!! The end is finally near. Couldnt have made it through this class without the gracious support and dedication from the wonderful Dr. Chu!!
His tests consist mostly of essay questions which are up to 12 points. Does not give full credit and doesn't explain why. He has a background in research so he expects you to know how to do research papers the way he would. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. IF THE ONE BAD REVIEW STOPS YOU FROM TAKING HIM, LET IT BE THIS ONE. It was a struggle to do well.
DO TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. IF THE ONE GOOD REVIEW CONVINCES YOU TO TAKE HIM, LET IT BE THIS ONE. READ the modules. He HIDES EXTRA CREDITS in them!! Exams are mixture of multiple choice and essays. MC are from the textbook, essays are from the modules. Didn't break a sweat getting that A. LOVE HIM!
For those that left bad reviews for him, you really need to ask yourself, was it him because you didnt get the grade you were hoping for? Did he do everything in his powers to make sure you do well? Ive never had a teacher like him in highschool or college. He REALLY wants to see you succeed and tries VERY HARD to do so.
Yes, its statistics, yes it's boring, yes you will need it to transfer. Take it with him and you'll have the best chance to pass and you will be entertained in the process! Never had I laughed so much and I looked forward to attending this class!
Professor Chu was a gem! Such a great professor. Very straightforward and clearly explains anything you dont understand. Ask a lot of questions! Gives study guides before exams, and offers extra credit. Made Stats 101 simple, and not too complicated.
Took this class over the winter. Fast pace but expected. Excellent professor. Hands down the best. Took time to explain. Never frustrated. Super smart. Super caring. Gives extra credit but really didnt need it because of they way he taught. Material just sticks. He makes stat less complicated.
I've taken this class twice before taking it with Dr. Chu. With other professors, I felt very discouraged about statistics. Dr. Chu was very encouraging from the first day. He approached the class with a genuine positive attitude. This alleviated my fears as it created a safe and friendly environment. Also his sense of humor put me at ease!
Qualities that describe Dr. Chu: smart, organized, patient, can deliver complex concepts in a very understandable fashion. Super passionate. Gives many assignments (quizzes, discussions, papers) but they all help reinforce the information for me. It's a challenging class, but Dr. Chu will give you all the support/tools you'll need to succeed.
Dr. Chu is a great professor who genuinely cares that his students are both learning and enjoying the material. He is always available for help outside of class and lectures at a good pace. Dad jokes in class are always a bonus. The amount of work assigned was very reasonable and he gives extra credit. Would definitely take again and recommend.
Like how he sets up his modules. Very easy to follow. Make sure to read them, they help with discussion questions and the exams. Also he hide extra credit there!!!
Earn A by doing your work and reading textbook. Every week there is a quiz and discussion- they add up so always do them. Online exams are rough, only get 80 minutes to do 30-ish Qs. 5 of those are essay based. Uses proctorio. Read the course modules as he gives extra credit when you read them- bumped my 91 to 97. Recommend this teacher always
Takes time to give good feedback and really wants students to succeed. Tough class but Prof Chu makes it fun w/ dad jokes!!!
Professor is a good teacher. He never make the class seem hard. Easy to follow and understand.
Tough to take this class online. Expect weekly assignments and a test each month. Drops the lowest scoring assignment in each category. Fair. Overall not bad.
He's a good professor. However, if you're not going to read the chapters from the book, don't bother taking the class. You need to read the book in order to understand exam and discussion questions. He did research in college so make sure you're up to date with APA guidelines. 3 exams and 1 final exam. Offers plenty of extra credit. Quiz heavy.
Took this class as a requirement. Professor Chu is a good instructor but can sometimes be a tough grader. Everything you do in this class is based on the textbook or sources he provides. Make sure to do the weekly readings, or you'll regret it. Do not wait last minute to complete assignments. I highly recommend completing extra credit!
A genuinely good professor that really takes the time and effort to teach you. Worth his weight in gold and then some.
I particularly like how this professor takes his time to make sure that the class understood before moving on. He really takes an interest in making sure that you succeed. Yes, at times, the material can be challenging, but the way he teaches and the explanations and examples that he offers makes it so easy to understand. Highly recommended!
Chu is awesome. His lectures are easy to follow and is more then willing to help when you don't understand something. There usually is a textbook but it's not required, mostly just for you. LECTURES ARE IMPORTANT! So are due dates, he doesn't accept late work but if you're sick or in an emergency he will be understanding.
He's a very good teacher. You can tell he's a good teacher because he can explain topics well enough for a 5 year old to understand. I'm not the smartest person but I passed his class with a really good score. Very funny as well. Iconic man.
I took Prof. Chu in 2019 before Covid so it was an in person class. Honestly, if you are interested in psychology, I recommend him as he truly teaches about the topic. His lectures and his assignments are pretty interesting. At the time, since it was an in person class, there was a lot of necessary note taking. Amazing professor.
Great porfessor
He's an absolutely amazing teacher and really shows that he cares for his students by introducing unique assignments meant to spark interest.
I would not recommend taking a class with this professor. They appear to be lacking in effort and preparation, as evidenced by the outdated material from early 2020 still being used for a 2023 class and an excessive amount of assignments that were not adjusted for the shorter time frame of a 5-week course.
Thanking this class was kind of intimidating, given the condensed nature of the class, however the Professor fostered a supportive environment. They provided useful feedback and used relevant examples.
Want a good grade? 1) Attend class 2) due the assignments 3) ask questions. As simple as 1,2 3! Love this professor!! Someone needs to clone him cuz we need more professors like him!
Dr. Chu creates a place where I am comfortable learning. He encourages us to actively participates in class. He doesn't talk over you; rather he explains the material in a way that I can easily understand. He's supportive and very encouraging, kind of like a coach/dad. He is also quick to answer my questions. Great and genuine person!
I was fortunate enough to take Professor Chu's class. No regrets whatsoever! Unlike other instructors who hurry through the class, he makes sure that you understand everything before moving on. Assignments (DO them! Easy POINTS!) were straightforward and helped me to understand the material fully. Allow notes on exams and give meaningful feedback.
The only thing I didn't like is that the professor times you for quizzes and exams. The quizzes are easy, but the exam was just too much. Our final exam had 55 questions, and 5 essay questions. You need to finish everything within 2 hours. I couldn't do it. If you are up for a challenge, I say take this class but be reading to read a lot.
I hate math. HATE with a passion!! I hate that they make me take a math class to graduate. WHY?!! Well, if you're like me, go take stat 101 with Chu chill dude and easy class if u do the work.
Prof Chu is outstanding. His depth of knowledge in the field is evident in every discussion. He is clear, concise and easy to understand. He genuinely enjoys teaching and is passionate about bio psych. His enthusiasm for the subject helped motivate me to learn. Very supportive and responsive.
My favorite professor! He is very caring and dedicated to his students. Responds quickly if you have questions. His lectures and explanations are VERY easy to understand. Has homework and in-class activities, DO them! Easy points & helps you prepare for the exam. Make sure to laugh at all his jokes! Absolutely the BEST STAT professor EVER!
I took Dr. Chu in Spring 2023. He's really funny, interesting, caring, & understanding! The course is pretty heavy. Lots of reading & studying if you want to pass with a good grade. You can meet him during his in-person office hours regarding any questions you may have. He showed me the human brain and even assisted me with my statistics homework.
Professor Chu is the best STAT 101 professor. He gives extra credit opportunities almost every week so that we can test our understanding of the concepts learned. I appreciated that he is dedicated and very helpful in answering questions, he could meet in person or on Zoom to explain tricky concepts. The workload isn't heavy at all, around 4 hrs.
This is my first year at Valley and I'm enrolled in several online classes. I have to say that Dr. Chu's class is one of the most well-organized. He is also highly interactive and gives feedback on all assignments. Never a dull moment. One downside is that his quizzes and exams are timed which can be a bit anxiety-inducing otherwise, perfection.
Highly recommend, great professor and I'm very happy with what I've learned in the class. This professor cares.
I found the weekly in-class activities where we work together and practice word problems very helpful. It gives us a chance to see what we know/dont know and then we can ask the prof. questions. He is supportive and approachable. If you are afraid of taking a math class, take it with this professor and you won't be afraid anymore! I promise!
Professor Chu is extremely helpful and wants you to succeed. Gives amazing feedback and tells you what you should work on and if you need help to contact him. Responds to his messages quickly. About 11 quizzes and 11 discussions (lowest of each is dropped), extra credit opportunites, 1 paper and 4 exams. Only con was that he is a slow grader.
Such an amazing professor. He is incredibly passionate about psychology. I genuinely liked his lectures and they were very easy to follow. His work load isn't too bad, but he does have a couple of difficult assignments but they're really not bad at all. I would seriously recommend him! Hes also very funny and easy going. I loved his personality.
He good. Take him. No problem.
He so good took him again. No regrets Wished he taught more.
Expect 1 discussion, one quiz roughly every week. The answers can all be found in the modules. Drops 1 type of each assignment. Hides extra credit in the modules, so make sure to read them! Also gives good feedback on all assignments! Like this assignments because they are very relatable. Expect about a 4 hour/week workload. Not bad at all.
Took the 8-week class. Although it was faster, it was manageable because of how well the class was structured and organized. The material was not hard at all if you read the assigned readings. A couple of things 1) a bit of a slow grader, but the detailed feedback makes up for that. 2) Exams and quizzes are timed. Not a big deal, but just an FYI.
When you have a professor like Dr. Chu who works SOO hard to ensure you succeed, you don't want to disappoint him. Gives tons of assignments that are FILLED with USEFUL and REAL feedback. Many opportunities to practice and ask questions and is soo supportive, patience and available. LOVE HIM!!!
Dr. Chu is awesome, hands down. The class is challenging though because there's a lot of science stuff. I need to read the textbook and the notes he provides and I would highly recommend seeing him to review because many of the things covered will be new. Aside from that, the class is exciting. He'll even show you an actual human brain!
I just completed prof chu's summer class. He's very engaging and gives detailed, genuine, and useful feedback. An easy class (but it bit fast. kinda expected bc it was only 5 weeks long). Off to another class with him in the fall!
I appreciate the time and effort this Professor takes with grading the assignments. I found when I get good feedbacks it helps me learn and get a better grade. Thank you very much
His engaging and relatable lectures make complex concepts easy to grasp. The course is well-organized; 11 quizzes (one drop), 2 papers, and 4 exams (one drop). Quizzes and exams are timed but manageable. He is a thoughtful grader who provides detailed feedback that is helpful, although grading can be a bit slow. I highly recommend him.
Professor Chu was an amazing professor and made everything very easy for us! He was so good that I will be taking statistics with him next semester! I highly recommend him for your psychology and math classes, 100/10.
Just can't get enough of Chu! Onto a new semester and another class with him!
Professor Chu was one of the best and easiest professors I've ever taken at valley college. He's funny and very caring. He WANTS you to pass and will answer as many questions as you have no matter how many times you ask! Highly recommend his class!
His class is well organized and easy to navigate. The workload is very manageable; 1 discussion and 1 quiz most weeks. 1 exam every month plus a paper. He drops one of each type of assignment. Feedbacks are good and plentyful and he's very supportive. Material is very interesting. Love the professor for all he does for his class.
An outstanding professor who genuinely cares about his students' learning and success. His teaching style is engaging, and he has a great sense of humor. He makes sure to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment. I appreciated his understanding and generosity, especially in personal situations. One of the best professors I've had.
#1 Rule if you're taking his class in person. Laugh at all of his cheesy corny jokes. Omg never thought I could have so much fun taking statistics.
I honestly wish I took him in person because he seemed like a fun personality, but his online course was kinda heavy to me, the exams took an hour, and there were a lot of them from what I remember. I got bored a lot reading the textbook, but I honestly think it was the online part. Not bad, not great. I dreaded a lot of the material.
Currently enrolled in psych 1 and stat 101 with Dr. Chu. His passion for teaching comes through even though it's and online class. He's very straightforward, supportive and approachable. Classes are very well structured and he provides ample feedback. Very responsive. Had a chance to meet him in person and he's the real deal.
1-2 Discussion per week + a quiz. They're fairly easy but the quiz timer gives me pressure so sometimes I make a mistake. He gives great feedback to discussions and let's you know what to focus on when you make mistakes. Very fun class!
Can confirm what others have said. Simply an amazing professor who truly cares about his students. Feedback-check. Support-Check. Funny-Check! Genuine-Check Check!
Professor Chu is the best professor I've ever had! He's very caring and easy to get hold of for any questions and concerns. He very clearly loves what he does, and he's very good at what he does. I took his online class with no Zoom meetings, but everything you need to learn the material is in the modules he posts, and they're more than helpful!
Great teacher. Gives good amount of extra credit. Very easy to pass his class. His exams are all proctored.
The 5-week online class goes by quickly. Be prepared for assignments due almost every day and weekly exams. The class is well organized, which I appreciate. Gives good feedback, which helps. Exams are proctored, which takes getting used to, but it's no big deal. He's funny and supportive. A great professor and great class. Highly recommended.
A teacher who actually teaches! Also taking him for statistics in person.
Although you cannot make up missed assignments, he drops 1 quiz, discussion, and exam at the end of the semester. Feedback is plentiful, and I appreciate how quickly he responds to my questions. All exams are proctored using Yuja (sucks, but I get why). Overall, a very kind, supportive, and professional professor. I highly recommend Dr. Chu.
3 exams + 1 final + weekly discussion questions & quizzes + group project. saw a real human brain. Lots of biology. Interesting class. Learned a lot. Connects class content with real-world implications. Great professor. supportive, approachable, and FUNNY! Recommended.
