She was a great teacher. It was a fast 8 week course. The class was easy. You had 4 inpromptu speaches, 2 tests, 4 pop quizes that you used to study for the tests, and 5 graded speeches. I would take her for another class. She seemed down to earth. I didn't study that much and got an "A".
Mrs. Yarberry is a wonderful and caring teacher!
This class is so EASY! the only boring thing about the class were the power point notes. other than that, it's pretty laid back. yarberry is not a very strict teacher, however she can be a little too critical of the verbal speeches, so practice! oh, she also likes giving out bonus points
She was a great instructor that cared. It is in your best interest to show up to all classes. If you miss an impromptu speech you can't make it up. I missed one and missed out on 20 points. Just make sure you keep up with everything and it's an easy A.
Nice lady and pretty easy class but also pretty boring. I made A's on every quiz and speech but ended up with a B because I missed two classes (and she does not allow you to make up the work). Did not offer ANY chances for extra credit and only allowed make-up's on the major speeches. Was fustrating that some people left early every class & was ok?
Very good teacher. Easy class but make sure you are there because there are pop quizzes and impromptu speeches none of them are hard but you have to show up or else you can't make it up. Powerpoint notes she goes fast on so you should look at the book. Final was really long and you really should just go over your notes and book for that.
I really liked this class. I did a lot of highlighting in my textbook because she goes fast on the powerpoints. She explains everything if she feels like someone is not comprehending. In the beginning it will seem like alot of work, but it really isn't. I wish I could take her again. The first class that I have ever went to everyday.
Prof. Yarberry is a good teacher. There are 4 speeches and 4 impromptu speeches. Test and quizes are simple and from the text.
Getting up in front of people is definitely not my strong suit but Prof. Yarberry makes it alot easier. She is a great speech teacher and I would recommend her to everyone, especially those of you who are shy and have difficulty speaking in front of people.
Awesome class, made an A. In Summer class we had 4 speeches and several impromptu. She is very flexible. Easy to talk to. A few quizes and two exams.Take it!
Great teacher! Very helpful and understanding!
I was nervous about taking a speech class. This class is easy, speeches are not hard at all. They only have to last 4-5 minutes, piece of cake! You do some impromtu speeches, also easy. Professor is not a hard grader. Show up to this class and do the speeches and you pass, simple as that! Take her!
Easy class. I do not enjoy public speaking, she makes it easy. Four speeches and a few impromtu speeches, all easy. A few easy mulitple choice quizzes and two easy exams. Take her to get a good grade!

I was a little nervous coming into a speech class but she was very helpful. She made you feel calm about it and no pressure. No textbook needed, quizzes based on notes given in class which was a nice plus.
I'm one of those people who get really nervous standing in front of people talking but prof. yarberry makes it much easier! She's not a hard grader and she's friendly, not scary :)
I just finished taking her class as an 8 wk course over the summer. Professor Yarberry is a very nice and wants to help her students improve as speakers. I know that I still have room for improvement, but now I know how to become a great public speaker if I keep working at it. I highly recommend taking this professor.
What a wonderful person. My schedule was all messed up at the beginning of the semester and she got me into her full class. Besides that, I learned a lot. Yarberry is a great teacher, very helpful, and responds to e-mails quickly. I worked hard for my B. she doesn't just give out A's. It's worth it to take this professor.
Professor Yarberry is nice, but she's a stickler for following directions. So, show up for class, read the text book, follow assignment directions to a T and you'll do fine.
The Professor is a nice lady, but the gradeing was alittle hard. You really have to put your all into to get and understand want she wants you bring forward to talk about to the class. I did learn how to talk alittle better, but ready to handle the comments just take them and be ready the next time a speech is to be given.
She seems to be a nice lady, but she grades really tough for the type of class that it is. She reads right off of a power point for her lecture, and does not seem to have much knowledge on the subject other than what comes off of the slides. I wouldn't take her again.
grades somewhat harder than i expected. prepare for your speeches and give it your all and you'll do fine.
This class was really easy. I ended up failing because I missed too many classes, and she doesn't let you make up the work. But I'm taking her class again next semester.
Great teacher. I wasn't so excited about public speaking going into this class but she is very thorough in her lectures/notes and helps you feel more at ease. She gives you a general topic for each speech that you can define further. It helps if you're not that interested in the class.
She is a very nice teacher. She works with us and is very easy to talk to. She grades exactly what one puts into their speeches. I recommend her.
Shes a nice lady. She'll sit down with u in her office and work with u and explain anything your having trouble with. Her tests are really easy and come straight from her lectures. My only complaint would be that she grades a little hard sometimes especially for it being a intro to speech class. Her class is very passable.
Very helpful and organized. Professor Yarberry does expect her students to put their best effort into their work, as one should. She is very fair and always happy to help her students. If you are organized and self motivated you'll do great.
She is a good teacher and knows her material, but I wouldn't exactly call her grading fair. She gives you grades, but never really explains how she comes up with the grades or what she counts off for. She changes due dates on assignments with little or no warning also, which keep me really confused.
Professor Yarberry is an excellent professor. She comes across as very strict, and she does expect you to do your best, but she is willing to work with you when life sometimes interferes with school. What a great lady.
She does not teach. You have to learn on your own about how to give speaches. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DO not take her if you want to actually learn how to give a speech!! HORRIBLE!
In a word: terrible. Arbitrary grading, no useful feedback, no real instruction, no engagement, uses powerpoints and online quizzes obviously not her own, misdefines numerous terms, graded a 5 page paper with a check mark or a check +/- like we were in elementary school. She puts in the least amount of effort possible. Easy pass, worst proffesor
SPC2608 Hybrid class: The only time you'll ever use the textbook is for the quizzes online. Attendance isn't required unless you're giving your speech. This is a real easy class.
At first she comes off very strict. She accepts late work but takes points off. Explains exactly what she expects of you. 2 major and 3 mini speeches. Quizzes on bb 10 questions. Didn't open the book once and got 920/1000. Take her!! :-)
Professor Yarberry is a great professor, but she is tough on grading. Study your book and keep up with the assignments, because there is absolutely no make-up.
She is a great professor. Take this class if you are just trying to meet your speech requirements for your degree. It is not an in depth speech class. If you are really going to be doing presentations I would still recommend Ms. Yarberry but maybe not the 2017
She doesn't explain how she grades. Her expectations are too high for a class that is meant to aid you in learning how to speak in public. She does not provide feedback, so you don't know where to improve. It's an easy pass, but no necessarily with your desired grade (even if you put in a lot of work on your speeches and discussion boards).
her class is interesting but she grades her speeches hard but its a easy class all you need is the book for the quizes and come to class and you should get an A or B
Great teacher. You do not need the txtbook i got an A in the class without it. Use the online Book website for quizzes and the 2 test. You learn a lot and become aware that concepts of speaking. Fun teacher and class
very good class.she only assingned 4 speeches throughout the semester.2 of them were short(2mins) and the others were 4-5 mins long.i took her hybrid class which was really easy, most of the time we met in class was to perform speeches and the rest was online. there was a discussion or quiz per week. ddnt help much with speaking tho, but easy A
Very nice and willing to stay after class to help you, but she grades speeches pretty harshly.
Loved this class. Attendance is not mandatory other than on speech days. All the notes that you would normally take in class are put online for you, so you won't miss a thing. Your grade depends solely upon your speeches so be sure to prepare and practice them. I hate public speaking but this class made it surprisingly effortless.
She grades way yo harshly. This is an intro to speech class, she should be helping us on her skills. instead she throws a schedule at you and tells you the dates your speech will be on. My step father passed away and I asked for a rubric since I did not have time to go her office on monday to pick it up.she replied like she did not care for my loss
Simply put Ms. Yarberry is amazing. If you do the work you will pass! Take full advantage of the many opportunities for success she gives. Looking at her syllabus it was clear that she is a no nonsense instructor so if you aren't self motivated don't take her class.I took the 8 wk course & did just fine & i'm not exactly a stellar student. haha
I took the hybrid, the online part is easy. Didn't read the book, online notes sufficient. Total of 4 speeches, first 2 are very short and the last two are nearly as short, about 4 minutes each.
Professor Yarberry is a great professor. All tests/ quizzes were done online and you had a week to do all of the work. This class was my last class before I could graduate and I tell ya, I was scared of it for nothing!Needless to say, show up, do the work, be courteof everyone else in the class and you wil o just fine!
Very easy class, just show up for your speeches do your online work and there is no way you should not get an "A", she can be a little tough on you speeches but all in all a great teacher who wants you to pass her class, I recommend her she is very nice and helpful!!! Make sure you put some time and be prepared for you speech, I passed with an "A".
Great Professor! She makes the class fun and interesting. The course work is easy as long as you spend some time really reading her power points and preparing for your speech's like your supposed to. Watch the due dates on everything because she does not keep up with black board postings, and just show up for each class and you will do great!
Brutal on grading, in fact quite un reasonable expectations. Easy class tough to get an A in my opinion. I took a 16 weeks class in 6 weeks that is partly my gripe.
The class was very easy but she grades hard on your speeches i never made over a 77 . The discussion broads are opinion base but she take points off which i feel isnt fair because it should be no right or wrong answer its an opinion.I didnt like the class but i had to take it but it was easy.
Harsh speech grading, very unclear on things. Easy class though if you do all the db and quizzes which are 2 trys each. midterm and final easy easy easy. But very harsh grader. Kinda nutty as well.
If you have to take a SPC class, you should take Prof. Yarberry. Come to class. She tells you exactly what she wants and what she does not want. She is a tough grader but she sincerely wants her students to excel. Good professor.
Fun class.
I took this class as a hybrid course. She grades kind of harsh on the speeches which you have almost every week. She is not clear, everytime I emailed her regarding info about the course or an assignment, she would act as if she was uninterested or if I was bothering her. Not very helpful.
Great teacher! I was so nervous to take speech, but after her class I really enjoyed it. I would recommend her class to anyone.
She grades your speeches very harshly and they are weekly and weighted heavily. It's almost impossible to get a 100 on your speeches. If you miss one speech there is no chance to make it up, and you will fail. I emailed her for help and she gave me a generic response that was unhelpful. Would not recommend.
Professor Yarberry is a great professor. She is always willing to help, if you ask for it. She can be a harsh grader, but it's because she wants students to succeed. She does alot of online work. She is nice but you have to do your work. Oh and don't miss mini speeches cause you can't make those up. Just do your work and you can get a good grade.
Ms. Yarberry was very helpful. She doesn't make attendance mandatory but there was a grade to be earned in almost every class and you didn't get to get a grade if you weren't there. She grades speeches somewhat difficult but if you do all the assignments you will still get a good grade. Having the book isn't necessary, she gives power points.
I do not like giving speeches! With that said, this class was a hybrid. Professor was very clear in what was expected. You have to put forth an effort, otherwise why bother? Topics were interesting to give speeches on, discussions and quizzes on BB, and we watched a movie and wrote a paper on it. Enjoyed it considering my fear of public speaking.
great teacher
Her class is sooooo easy. The speeches can be tough but just look at the outline she gives you. Follow it exactly lol. The online work is pretty easy (most of it you can look up online or its common sense). She's a really nice lady and she wants people to do good in her class. I would take her again!
Don't be fooled by the syllabus. Mrs. Y is not that mean! Her criteria is clear cut. Do not miss class! Offered extra credit for showing up to class on 9-11. Offers a high-value, extra credit self-evaluation at the end of the semester. Her grading on speeches can be a little tough, but I would highly recommend this teacher! I would take her again!
I figured this speech class would be hard but Miss Windolyn is making it seem like nothing. She grades you for your own good so she isn't mean. You only need the text book for quizzes and the discussions aren't hard. A pretty laid back class I'd say. Wouldn't say attendance is mandatory but don't miss too many classes or you'll be confused.
Mrs Yarberry is a great teacher, but she has somehow decided that grading on scales of 20 or 50 instead of 100. A single mistake can take your grade from an A to a very low B or even a C, and that's not fair in the slightest.
FOR THIS CLASS YOU DONT REALLY NEED THE TEXT BOOK. SHE HAD POWERPOINTS ON EACH CHAPTER. MINI SPEECH WAS 50 AND MAJOR WERE 100 PLUS 25 POINTS FOR OUTLINE. SHE GIVES EXTRA CREDIT FOR EVALUATING PEERS. WEEKLY QUIZZES YOU CAN TAKE TWICE AND MIDTERN AND FINAL ONLINE. DISCUSSION BOARD AND THATS IT.
Would never take again! Very unclear and will fault you for her unclarity.
The workload is light and the textbook isn't necessary at all thanks to her powerpoints. She is nice, helpful, and gives extra credit. My only complaint is that if the speech doesn't follow the exact format she gives you, you are penalized hard. I am comfortable with public speaking and usually make all A's but I had to work for it in this class.
Speech was a hard class for me. She was a tough grader for the speeches, but offered a lot of extra credit. Also, even if you did a bad job on the speeches, if you did well with the online work you could still get an A. She was very helpful and even let me retake an online exam. I definitely recommend taking her class.
This teacher was awesome. I definitely enjoyed her class. I was nervous about public speaking, but she makes it easy to get infront of the class. She grades speeches and outlines hard, but will allow corrections as well as extra credit assignments. Very easy to understand and makes assignments easy. I really enjoyed this class! Great professor.
Yarberry seems like a nice person, but if you wanna actually learn I would skip this class. I feel like I spent more time on google then in the classroom. She's not clear about what she wants, and you get penalized for it. Says you dont need the book, then makes half her questions from the book and not the PP's. Lots of contradictions, not focused.
This class was one of my easiet classes, especially being a shy student who doesn't like to talk in front of others. There are only two mini speeches which are two minutes each and three main speeches at about four minutes each. Quizzes can be an easy A thanks to powerpoints and the K-Pax movie was actually interesting to watch.
Everything in the class is clear and easy. Do the work and its and easy grade.
Quizzes were easy I missed two discussions because I had no clue about them one of them I missed was my fault but the other I never heard her mention it but hey I still did all the other work and still got a D
Hybrid class, but it's not specified as such. Syllabus/Grading is very clear but she gives little to no feedback unless prompted. Very tough grader except she doesn't directly teach you anything. No real lectures, class time is for speeches and movies. Claims we don't need text, but then pulls quiz questions directly from it instead of PPs on BB.
She is an amazing professor. She is clear with what you need to do. Come to class every day and you will pass her class. You watch a movie and you have to fill the handout for a homework assignment. If you need to take a speech class I recommend you take her. She is an amazing professor and gives good advice about doing speeches in front of people.
I'm deathly afraid of speaking in front of people, but this is the first class I've felt comfortable enough to speak my mind. She's AMAZING! Not a lot of homework, easy power points for quizzes. Two mini speeches 2-3 min, two big speeches 4-7 min. Mid term and final are easy to follow and basic questions! Definitely one of the best professors!
Windolyn Yarberry was a great teacher. She cared a lot and was quite calming to be around, which is great in a speech class. I have a fear of public speaking but she helped me feel at ease. She's a fair/tough grader so do your best. Its a pretty easy class once you get the hang of talking in front of people.
Wonderful professor, but kind of hard on the last 2 speeches. I would take her classes again.
I would take her again. There are 2 major speeches and 2 mini speeches. Quizzes and tests are online. She's sort of a tough grader on speeches though.
things are unclear and she isnt considerate its alittle easy but if you mess up your screwed. ive seen very caring prof and that they help students as they know they are working hard. but not in her book
would never take this prof again i have no problem speaking infront of people but i didnt learn anything and she is unclear about things and its so annoying and she penalizes you for her unclarity she isnt available sometimes at office even is says she will in office hrs i called and she doesnt answer just stay away its not worth the hassle.
I took SPC 2017 online it was worth it. Make sure you have a dependable audience members and choose your topics wisely. I was nervous at 1st but now I feel a secure about speaking in public. She is very understanding and communication is definitely the key.
i took this professor in spring 2018 she is good clear about objectives ect but the problem is that she doesn't have patience and she should just put more effort in bringing students higher not destroy hard working student because that is pure evil!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome professor, she really takes the time to assist with any questions and super prompt at her responses. Make sure you attend her classes and do the work required! I highly recommend and would take any other classes she would teach
Amazing journey speaking before a group. Everyone should try it! She's kind & sympathetic. Some reading & quizzes. MLA & cites. Watched a movie. Do your assignments & get them in by due date no problems! She does give extra credit. Time is important in class. Gives great feedback. My bugs are gone, so I would take her class again for sure! I learn.
Here grading Criteria was unclear. The first two speeches she takes it easy on you, but the second two directions are very unclear. I would not take another class like this again. I do not reccomend You take this professor.
Speaking in front of groups, nerve racking! Everyone should take this class. She does care. I would have gotten an A but personal issues. I loved the class & would take it again & again! She's available office & gives great feedback. I'm still a little nervous speaking with groups but I have some tools now to work with. Oh we watched a movie too!
What should have been an easy class got held back by an arbitrary grading system and unnecessary busy work. Speeches and prompts are fine, but she grades them almost randomly. Not many assignments so if you slip up it can hurt your grade significantly. Manageable but not ideal.
I've never had any problems with her. She's very nice and approachable and, at least in my case, fairly generous with grading. As long as you follow her rubrics exactly and seem prepared during your speeches, you should have no problem. My class was hybrid so there were 4-5 online discussion boards and 6 online exams. Make sure to do them on time!
Professor Yarberry is a very pleasant professor. Four speeches, 2 minis, 2 5-minute speeches. Fun class. You definitely need to come to class to understand what is expected from the course. Outlines are required on your speeches, but these ultimately help you! Come to class and participate and you will be fine! Enjoyed it!
Had Windolyn for SPC2017 in Fall, she was great, 4 speeches total, she gives you plenty of info on how to complete them. Tests and quizzes are all online and super easy to complete, all of your effort should really go into the speeches. Does discussion posts, but they're not too difficult.
Great teacher for a speech class. Clear grading criteria. Easy speech prompts. Enjoyed this class. Easy quizzes.
Professor Windolyn is perfect for this subject. She is a fair grader, three speeches, three quizzes, and one final exam. Easy work! She lets you have one or more people during your speech because of the pandemic. Get her and you'll be very happy :)
Professor graded fairly and was very professional in the course and communication. 3 speeches required video with audience showing in video. Provided feed back that was useable. I would recommend taking her class.
Skip her. She grades unfairly and is rude in her syllabus explanations. She treats people as if they are morons by default.
Extremely easy class. discussions, open book quizzes, and 3 speeches you can use a script for. The only person who watches your speech is her. The only way you can fail this class is if you don't follow simple instructions on her syllabus. I probably only spent 2-3 hours PER **WEEK** on this class.
Do not take awful professor very unfair with grading, and awful with communication do not take!
The teacher dropped me from class after getting a 95% on the syllabus quiz. You have to get a 100%. It's a 50-question quiz and you legitimately have to read her 48-page syllabus to find the answers. Why there is a quiz on that is beyond me.
There are more than double the assignments in this 15-week class than there are for my two 7-week classes (Accounting and Bio). Also, super strict and long speeches, if you don't have more than 5 adults she won't even grade it. All speeches are 10 mins long minimum and have to be sent to her first. You cant have your speech in front of you either.
I am simply reading the syllabus and I think I am going to drop this class. Off the bat, I do not understand why she is so condescending. She won't grade your speech if you post it too early (no getting ahead!), don't have five members present that aren't actively engaged, and the list goes on. I mean, seriously? Forget that.
She is amazing! Public speaking is a difficult thing for many but she is very reassuring and goes in to depth about all the speeches for this class! Her grading style and rubric are very clear and helpful to let you know exactly what she is looking for! I loved her class!
I didn't hate this class. Discussions are an easy 100, quizzes are easy. Only problem is the speeches themselves. 3 total speeches, taking online you need 5 audience members. But her criteria is clear, follow directions and it's an easy A. I stutter and mess up alot but never got anything lower than an A. She will tell you what needs work too.
If this professor is your only option, good luck. As someone with anxiety and a speech impediment, this was terrible. She's very strict on grading and the way your speeches are recorded if you're taking her online. Her time limits are too short for speeches for the amount of information you have to give. It's a no for me to retake this class.
Must pass the syllabus quiz with a perfect score to stay in this class online. This professor is super strict and gives little to no mercy on assignments, quizzes or speeches. There is little to NO ROOM TO MAKE UP ANYTHING so get it right the first time. Good luck you're gonna need it if this is your first speech class.
Amazing professor. Easy grader when it comes to speeches, she tries to help as much as she can. She is very understanding and gives easy and little quizzes. Take her! You'll thank me :)
Nobody likes public speaking but Yarberry helped it to be manageable! Her expectations were clear. The class was fairly easy. She is understanding and treats her students like humans! We had weekly textbook quizzes, 2 mini speeches, 2 outlined 5 min speeches, 2 exams, and 3 written assignments. She's the best professor I've had at FSCJ!
The homework and quizzes were easy however, her speeches were a pain. She is very strict and isn't lenient with you if you need extra time or don't have enough people. Make sure you have 5 Adults or don't take the class. I only had 4 people for 2 speeches, and she didn't grade one and i got half credit for the other. You must also pass the syllabus
Yarberry is cool and no-fuss. She doesn't drag her lectures out, she makes it short and sweet. Her speech grading criteria was annoying and restrictive at first, but as long as you do the outline EXACTLY the way she wants, you'll do just fine. I recommend taking her 7 week hybrid, painless total of 3 speeches, a few easy online assignments.
I took Professor Yarberry's 7 week online class. You have to purchase an online text book that she co-authored. A total of 4 speeches that require a 5 live adults be present, MANDATORY. Test and quizzes are all open book and you are able to take quizzes multiple times. If you do the work and turn it in on time you will easily pass her class.
The only assignments I did not like at all were the 2 where you had to watch a documentary and a movie and then answer questions about them. Other than that her class is easy to pass. This class helped me get over my nervousness when it comes to making speeches.
I mostly enjoyed this class. There were four speeches total, two of them being simpler speeches that focus more on your experiences, and the later two requiring outlines and sources for certain topics. The later two speeches were more difficult but not bad. She gives good feedback on speeches and also replies to emails quick. Solid professor.
Clear syllabus. 3 speeches with each one requiring longer times and different topics. Each speech required 5 audience members so do not take this class unless you have 5, she will give you an automatic 0. Speeches are uploaded to youtube and sent to her. Few discussions and quizzes. Hardest part of the class was setting up speeches with 5 people.
Took this class online and the quizzes are easy everything is in the textbook along with exams but the speeches to me seemed ridiculous. you have 3 speeches and each one HAS to have 5 people. I hardly even know 5 people lol. Our last speech was worth 150 people and I only got half credit for having 4 people...
Professor Yarberry's class was manageable, with clear expectations. The speeches were challenging but helpful for overcoming public speaking nerves. Unstuck study was a great study aid alongside the textbook. Overall, a solid professor who treated students well.
The regular course work is fine. The expectations are pretty clear from the jump. What bothered me was that we have to organize 5 people together 3 different times in the semester AND we couldn't have our speeches in front of us. Not even something just to remind us what points needed to be hit. It felt cruel to be embarrassed repeatedly.
I would def recommend attending speech in person rather than online, she was clear and cut throat on what needed to be done for the speeches and the lectures. She gives good feedback and lets us ask questions. She is a well rounded professor and gives the materials you need or have to slow down when needed. TAKE HER CLASS YALL!!!
If I didn't have a 350 character limit, I would give a dissertation. NEVER take this professor. So many stipulations for the speeches. 5 ADULT audience, dings you for filler words, no editing the video. Meet them, or don't get graded. Wild for a speech class at a community college.Stay far away from this class if you don't want to lose sleep.
very annoying class you need 5 people for speeches. I was one minute late to submitting an assignment because she thought it was a good idea to assign a big speech during Thanksgiving week. So I didn't have much time to upload it not to mention the problems I had with YouTube and she gave me half points.
Amazing professor! Her lectures aren't long and she lets you out after she's done lecturing (we were out of class 30 minutes early almost every non speech day). She has two short speeches and two long speeches with outlines. She has a few discussion boards and other random writing assignments, but overall they are not tough. Would 100% take again.
Ms. Yarberry was a great professor to have. There were only a few online quizzes, and for each, you get 2 chances. The speeches were not hard, and she doesn't grade harshly on them. The lowest I got on one was a B. Attendance is not mandatory, but it's always good to attend class. Overall, I loved her class.
