all over the place!!!!!
Horrible. Horrible. Horrible.
He is aweful! He teaches maybe 1/20th of the things you need to know and his tests are brutally hard!
Contemplated suicide. Just get out of his class. Pay a hobo 5$ to read you a text book, it doesn't even have to be chem, you'll do better.
Dr. Jaeger is definitely one of my favorites this semester. Beyond being incredibly knowledgeable, he actually makes his problem sets more difficult than the tests, so you can always know what the hardest questions will be like. He seems to have a passion for teaching, which I admire.
Dr. Jaeger is a very friendly, helpful teacher. His tests are difficult, but if you study the text and his notes he gives, you'll do fine
Um... his accent is funny. Otherwise he's boring to listen to. He's a funny guy but he is not that clear with notes/lectures.
prepare to cry after the first midterm. however, take comfort in the fact that the TAs generally mark pretty generously. my only other advice, MEMORIZE THE PROBLEM SETS.
Jaeger is very bright and an excellent chemist, but a horrible teacher. His classes are boring, he does not go over the concepts enough and his tests will make you want to curl up in a corner and cry. Avoid this one, or at least get a set of typed notes from a second year to follow along with.
Even though I took this class about 6 years ago, I still remember how horrible it was. He taught it like it was physics and I have never taken physics. Lets just say I retook the class cause I did so horribly. He is the worst prof I have ever had.
awesome prof. easy course. problem sets are useful.
Oh man, this class is a laugh. You may think I mean that it was really easy, but what i really mean is that the course was so hard i just laughed crazily to myself. He's a super funny guy and really nice, i'd take him for a beer, but as for taking his course again? I'd rather drink arsenic.
Ummmmmm....I would like to help everyone out but its been a whole term and I still don't know what was going on during the class....My advice study the problem sets skip the lecture and just read the book. its too bad too he seems to really want to teach but he just can't...I think
The notes are great for explanation but did I ever get a suprise on the final, (some material I have never seen before). He gives out problem sets and takes a couple questions from them for the exam. If you dont do the problem sets the exam is really hard. Also causes an inflated class average.
This guy is hilarious! I had a lot of fun in his classes, but if you have him as a prof, my advice is to skip the lectures and learn on your own. Also? Make SURE you do his problem sets!!! Those questions always end up on his tests....sometimes worth more than the questions from the actual course!!
Terrible Teacher. Tough to say, seeing he is such a nice guy, but he just cannot explain a thing. Just writes notes and expects you to know what's going on. Stay away from him.
i don't agree that he was an horrible prof. he's a good guy. really wants to teach you something and pretty much tells you exactly whats on the exams (ex.problem sets!) didn't find exams too hard at all. lectures were boring sometimes.
Do all the problem sets over and over thats the only thing that will save u in his class... he likes to talk about a lot of useless stuff in his lecture stuff u really dont need for his midterm or final...so ur best bet is the text book and the problem sets
Jaeger is a very good prof with good humor and he really wants you to understand what he says. However sometimes he goes a bit slowly in lectures, and writes rather sloppily on the overhead, but I think he is a very good chemistry prof, knowledgeable, and problem sets help a lot on exams,
Not bad. It's obvious he really wants his class to do well but sometimes he has trouble getting his point across. Just be sure to read the book and do the problem sets. For the love of god do the problem sets. Alot of exam questions are word for word from the problem sets.
He's a very nice guy, you can tell he really wants you to love chemistry, but unfortunately he doesn't succeed too much. Do not ignore his problem sets. It will be in his exams 100% guaranteed. Do not skip any lectures because he doesn't update his notes in webct often.
Excellent prof, very nice, explains things fairly well, and holds "discussion sessions" to clarify anything that doesn't make sense. Fairly approachable, although a bit intimidating.
Nice guy, and gives notes straight from text. What made the class bad was that he would get mad at people talking in class. Which meant that it would interrupt him from teacher a lot of time...guys just shhhh in class so other people can learn please.
He is a great professor, loves his subject. He helps alot if you visit him in office or send an email. Helped me develop a love for chemistry.

the best prof. the experiments are crazee n hes really helpful in and out of class. i would reccomend this prof toe everyone o n his nots are easy to understand and helpful n my friends amandeep singh is in love with him <3 lol
Very nive ;)
To those who don't like him because he asks you to keep quiet during the lectures, don't worry. You'll figure out that this isn't high school where everyone laughs when you're a wise-ass. This course costs a lot of money and we'd all appreciate it if we weren't distracted by your conversation.
His accent was too strong for my liking. I disliked our agreement, which i never agreed to. He was very unpleasant overall.
A really nice guy, but not the greatest prof. He is quite smart, but can't seem to convey his thoughts that clearly. He does put all of his notes online though, and they are faily good notes.
If you're planning on taking a chem course with jaeger, you'll have to prepare for alot of background reading. Most of the midterm and final questions will be directly from the problem sets. I am sure if you do these problem sets you'll ace this course. I got an A in this course. One thing to mention, his lectures are pretty much useless.
scared the crap out of me and most of the class
awesome prof who tries his best to explain concepts in a way everyone can understand and keeps lectures interesting by performing experiments to help you understand concepts. His tests are very fair if you look over the sample test and read the text. Going to class helps in understanding material but yoiu must follow through with text and problems
Very poor notes. Read the text and do the problem sets to do well in this class. He did have some pretty good demos in class to keep things interesting.
Awesome prof, one of my favorites. Very helpful... And he has an awesome accent. He is now course director though, so he doesn't teach much.. But, if you can enroll in one of his lecture sections, do it.
Had him for a sub, so obviously I don't know much about this guy. But he explained things well and was in control of the class, which was absolutely wonderful. If you get annoyed with people talking in classes, take his because he "does not tolerate talking" (unless you're asking a question). Better than Y. Xu, by a longshot.
Dr Jaeger really cares that you are there to learn, which is awesome, he does not tolerate any talking or disruptions...amazing. He may not explain something quite full at first, but if you ask him a question, he won't move on until you understand. Great guy.
I'd just say his online notes is better than him actually teaching it in class. I cant understand most of the words he is saying in class.
This was a very easy class. This is not a compliment to Dr. jaeger's teaching style. The exam questions are directly out of his problem sets so if you don't get an A you must be an idiot. I recommend reading the textbook and doing the problem sets. Dr. Jaeger was not a catalyst for good marks.
He was my favorite prof in my first year of University. His no bull approach to people who wasted time is awesome, and he explained everything very well! He kept the lectures fun, and didn't complicate lessons like most profs (trying to prove how smart they are)
WORST PROF EVER. He kept going on about how it wasn't his job to teach us, it was the textbook's job. Several times when many people in lecture said they didn't understand the concept he'd just say it was our own problem and not help out. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF if you ever want to go on in Chem again.
good prof, doing the sample tests really help
I really like his class and usually get a pretty good understanding just from the lectures. And he really does care how you do and tries hard to help everyone understand.
Excellent Prof. Slight accent but still very easy to understand. Doesn't explain concepts 100% but definitely cares about his students. Cool demos too.
His accent is hard to understand. the first midterm was killer. He really tries to help people but it doesn't work;(. dont talk in his class cuz u'll get hell for it and btw the loud obnoxious students in the back deserve it. I wished he would stop assuming we learned most of the stuff in high school b/c we DID NOT!!!!
Great teacher, cool accent and cracks down on talking.
What a brilliant man. He's so smart. No one ever skips cause lectures are so important. He will explain things over and over if he has to, SO ASK QUESTIONS if you don't get it. Chances are, half the class wants to ask the same thing but are too scared. He really likes to help even out of class and always posts changes to his office hours.
He's pretty good prof, just make sure to not skip any lectures, read the lesson before the actual lecture, and keep your midterms. I just did the final and about 90% of it was exactly from the problem sets, practice midterms, and the actual 2 midterms. He recycled questions you have already seen so the final was pretty decent. Highly recommended.
Best. Prof. Ever. Wore socks and sandals every day, probably the best thing ever. Super helpful, good sense of humor, fun and helpful experiments done as demonstrations in class. Would recommend him to anyone taking this course.
I don't know why people complain about his accent. It's completely understandable but most importantly it's cool. Exams are fair if you put the time into doing his problem sets and reading the textbook. Loves chemistry, great demonstrations, and if you don't understand a concept he will explain until it's crystal clear. Doesn't tolerate talking.
This man is a legend. People say this too many times but... DO THE PROBLEM SETS AND QUIZZES. Get help if you don't know how to do them, and if your stuck the day before remember the steps. Why? Because they are identical to the midterms! Also make sure you know how to the midterms after you get them. Why? Because they make up the final!
Awesome prof. Super helpful and gives simple easy to understand notes. Also, he does cool lab demos usually every week. Do his practice midterms. They help ALOT!
Wolfgang is a wonderful professor for first year students. His notes are concise, and his accent is perfectly understandable (IMO, quite charming). He has nifty demonstrations nearly each week. Try to attend the classes - he does provide a very brief summary of each lecture online but it is no substitute to class notes. Willing to help. Great prof!
Dr. Jaeger really loves to teach. The notes given are very sufficient to do well on exams. The prescribed textbook is handy if you don't understand a concept, or just want to read up on it more. His exams tend to be more in depth than some of the other profs' but that's only because he cares that you actually know the material you're supposed to.
Highly recommended
If you do well in this class attend it. Also, you need to be very hard working, his tests arnt hard if you do all the practises but you should attend class as he gives helpfull hints. His class is at 8 in the morning and very hard to get up for. I didnt show up after the first midtem and i did fine could have done better if i shouwed up :P
He is awesome. His question sets and practical exams were quiet helpful when studying for exams. Make sure you do all of them! That can help a lot. Since his class was on 8 am and I couldn't get up sometimes, his lecture notes in eclass were also helpful!
A great prof, genuinely cares about his students.
Wolfgang is the biggest beauty - genuinely one of the funniest, nicest profs at the University; he actually cares about his students. Do the problem sets, and read the assigned textbook pages before going to class. Tests are fair. Lectures can be a bit disorganized, but he makes up for it by explaining things during office hour. Total gem.
To say he cares about his students is an understatement. Do the problem sets and you're golden, as they often show up on exams. Midterms were fair, and final was even easier. He encourages reading the textbook and I know I found it very helpful, because the course can be challenging. He's also funny, to boot! I highly recommend him.
Wolfgang is a cool guy. I really messed up his class, but he's still a good prof. I know this is said a lot, but honestly just memorize his problem sets. There was a question on the final that had the same numbers and everything from the problem set. His class isn't the most entertaining and he can be all over the place but overall would recommend.
Enjoyed Jaeger. Good notes, really helpful, occasionally amusing. Advice: ask questions in class, go to office hours if struggling (he will patiently spend ~forever making sure you understand something), start working on problem sets early, read textbook before class, be prepared for long+challenging midterms if you don’t know the material properly
One of the best profs I had first semester, he's funny, cared about your success and was approachable (at least for a 6'3" German with levi's and an unbuttoned shirt). Do the practice exam, read the pdf notes, do the problem sets, and reread the notes you took in class in that order of importance before every exam.
If you take his class, be prepared to do a lot of non-mandatory work. Do his problem sets and readings before classes, and learn the material more than a day or two before exams. I found him to be a little bit disorganized (not giving info about readings very much in advance, jumping around during lectures), but overall not bad.
Jaeger was okay. He was fair. His exams were to be expected if you did the practice sets. A question on his final was literally word for word from one of the problem sets. I found his lectures confusing, and hard to stay focused to. But if you are willing to do non-mandatory work (read textbook&problem sets) and ask for help, you'll do well.
As long as you do his problem sets and understand them you can easily get at least a B+. His tests were almost identical to them. His actual teaching methods need some work for even though he tries hard, it was still extremely difficult to keep up with his train of thought.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. Despite what some of the others have said, he is disorganized and extremely bad at communicating. Consistency is not there (practice midterm questions were not on 1st midterm but were on the 2nd midterm) which makes it extremely hard to study the right content. STAY AWAY
Jaeger is a nice guy. But, its really hard to know what it going to be on his exams. There is little consistency for what he tests, its just sorta whatever he decides. Concepts that are really important don't make it on the exam, and yet insignificant detail does. This class is okay...but i won't take anymore with him.
Despite the other reviews, if you attend class and read the textbook you'll be fine. He is unclear when it comes to some concepts but if you meet with him personally, he's more than willing to help out. The advice he gives to his class (writing notes, doing the problems, going to class) is what will really ensure that you will do well.
He's not a terrible prof by all means. He explains concepts decently and really tried to engage his students in environmental situations around the world which was nice. The exams were really iffy since this was his first time teaching the course but were still manageable. I like that he tried to be funny at times but otherwise was kinda boring
Really disliked the prof. I wouldn't take him again, the class was interesting but take it with someone else. Too many inconsistencies.
I will never take a class from him again. His lectures are completely irrelevant to what he put on exams and problem sets. Exams sometimes contained questions on concepts that weren't in the textbook or his notes. Never knew what to expect on exams. Avoid his class at all costs!!
Absolutely worst class that I have taken in my three years at the UofA. Dr Jaeger was nice, his lectures were interesting. His exams and assignments were TERRIBLE. The exam questions didn't relate to the lecture or the textbook. There was no way to properly prepare for the exams. Avoid this class at all costs, unless taught by someone else!!!
I don't think he even reads the assignments before posting them.
Awful lecturer. He's a nice guy, but he spends more time correcting the confusion he causes rather than teaching new material. The material is fairly interesting and requires a broad knowledge of chemistry; that said, it doesn't need to be in-depth, so this is a good option for non chemistry majors. You may find it easier to just use the textbook.
He made so many mistakes every lecture so you never trusted anything he said. We spent so much time on real world environmental chemistry news, that we didn't have time to go over different types of problems so everyone got nailed by them. He also can't write legibly and neither can his guest TA. Basically always confused and wondering if its wrong
Class involves a lot of math, and formulas which I wasn't expecting. Notes are posted after class but attendance is necessary for clear understanding. Does make some mistakes in notes so make sure you're following. Has online problem sets for marks that are tricky but if you study the questions off of those and from previous midterm you'll do fine.
Dr. Jaeger was fantastic. Replied to my emails sometimes around 1:00 in the morning always clearly and concisely. He clearly shows how much he loves the material. Exams were extremely fair, often using the same tricksconcepts from in-class examples and the problem sets. Textbook can be used to clarify topics as well. I would love to have him again
HIS WRITING IS SO MESSY. Just had to vent that. Learn how to do the 20 or so different problem styles, understand some basic concepts and maybe memorize a few mechanisms and bam, pretty easy A. I slacked pretty hard so only ended up with a C+ but with some work and keeping on top of assignments, pretty easy. Jaeger seems like a nice dude, too.
It is possible to do very well in this course. The practice exams are very similar to the real exams and problem sets. The lectures were a bore. He posts very neat notes in word online afterward, so attendance is not a must. The assignments could take hours, if you got stuck on some questions which a lot people have difficulty solving.
the prof isn't as bad as alot of people are saying here. Its a 300 level course so you have to work hard and mostly the tests were similar to the problem sets and the final was easy than the midterms. The problems require basic math skills and the examples are clear. Dr. Jaeger is an extremely helpful prof if you ask him for help he is so helpful.
This is one of the kindest professors, and really approachable if you ask questions in or out of class. The problem sets are hard, but if you ever email him and ask him to add some he will. Super helpful when you need help and he truly cares about his students and wants them to do well and love the subject. Work hard and the exams will be fine!
Great professor, cares about your understanding, funny, very passionate about teaching. I would definitely recommend this class. The material is super interesting and cool. He goes the extra mile. You learn a lot, and it's great how he connects everything to current events. Going to class important. Work hard. One of the best profs out there.
I loved Dr. Jaeger. He is hilarious! Not only does he give good lectures, but he also entertains you with his humor. He'll tell you exactly what you should know for the exams. He will always help you if you go to his office and will post the solution to any textbook question online if you email him and ask him to.
Curved class, needed about an 82 to get an A. HW assignments are really hard and annoying. He gave tons of hints for the MT and final so be ready for them and don't miss class. He wasn't the clearest, but his hints made up for any clarity problems. Study what he tells you to study. Great chem course b/c there is no lab! Free textbook.
Exceptionally horrible prof. On problem sets and practice exams he puts questions that require equations that aren't even in the textbook or in his notes, which means they are impossible if you don't magically know the equation off hand, and that you'll waste time figuring them out. Solutions to problem sets/exams are minimal in detail.
Overall, a pretty low workload course. Problem sets required some thinking and were more difficult than his examples, but the textbook has lots of similar or identical questions with answers so you can check if your methods are right. First midterm was tight on time, second midterm was easy, final was fair and represented the course well.
Dr Jaeger pushes you to find answers for yourself which comes off as you're on your own for the most part. Exams are very fair, but you will fail if you don't practice. Textbook is a MUST. Assignments are better done in groups as creativity is helpful to solving a lot of the questions, which prof will NOT give input on until after it is due.
Great prof, theres lots of dicussion of environmental issues. He's passionate about what he teaches. I really enjoyed the class. He makes it clear what he will be testing if you attend class but he also posts full notes. The text book is available online for free.
Dr. Jaegar appears to be a nice person who is passionate about chemistry but is a poor lecturer. Writing is hard to read however he does posts notes online. The course itself is very calculation heavy which I was not expecting. Problem sets are awful. Only plus side of the course was no lab and free online textbook (which was not helpful at all
This class is VERY calculation heavy which I was not expecting. The prof himself is fine I guess, not very helpful but he does give hints throughout the course as to what he'll put on exams (although sometimes he'll say he'll put something on and he wont). 12 problem sets which very REALLY hard at first, but got easier over time.
Chem 303 is very homework and test heavy. Has one midterm worth 33% of your grade, a final worth 43% and problem sets worth 24%. The midterm was fair, the problem sets and final were very difficult. Thank God for the curve. Recommendation is to keep up with the material and do the problem sets. Every % counts!
He's a very nice guy, assignments seem to be difficult for most people but i did not find them very hard, probably best to work on them in a group. Go to class and he will tell you what is on the exams, so there were no surprises on the midterm and final exam. Do the 3% bonus pres, not the 2% paper. One of the easiest Chem courses and low workload.
Dr. Jaeger is very passionate about the material. Actually wants you to do well and be interested in environmental issues. The course is hard if youre not strong in math. But if you work hard, you can still do well. He is super helpful during office hours if you have any questions. The homework was pretty tough but make sure you do them.
good luck
This guy is the worst chem prof ever. He does not upload problem sets. Teaches basic stuff in the lectures and his quizzes are of very high difficulty whereas other profs give much easier quizzes. His notes are trash. He is a very tough grader. He does not upload his notes. Do not take this prof for your course.
Dr. Jaeger is a very good professor. His lectures are easy to follow, and he really cares about his students.
He's a really nice and caring guy! This class was at 8 AM in the morning so quite a few people didn't come. However, I did and I would say studying the notes we take is more valuable than studying the textbook. Our final exam was almost exactly the same as the practice finals but I can't say the same for the midterm.
Didn't take a class from him but after seeing him in a friends snap chat I went out and bought a Hawaiian shirt. 5/5 he is an inspiration
Took him in online class and defiantly the hardest online course I've taken. Regular lectures scheduled AND he posts hour long pre lectures, meaning you have over 2 hours per class instead of 80 minutes. Midterms very difficult and complex, most material of midterms not even taught. Avoid this class, seriously
Other reviews say he gives hints to midterms and finals, not this semester. Midterms had a lot of questions that were much more difficult than anything done in class or homework. Online averaged 5 hours a week of lecture compared to standard 3. Two homework sets a week and he won't answer questions till after due date. Final was only worth 30%
Presentations were interesting and an easy mark. Probelem sets took a long time but were a grade boost for me. Idk if it's because it was online and open book but the exams were quite difficult! Lecture material is interesting and I recommend this class to all science students
As many mentioned, there were both live and non-live lectures (more instructional hours than normal). Problem sets were difficult and took too long. Exams were crazy long and difficult due to it being an open book exam. Exam marking took too long - apparently only 1 TA was assigned for this class. Lectures were clear but not enough examples given.
Professor Jaeger was my favourite chemistry prof, and chem 303 was my most favourite chemistry class. I would recommend this class and Dr. Jaeger! Hes a gem and the class is super interesting! Problem sets and exams were fair but if you understand the material and not just memorize it, you should do fine! Presentation is an easy 10% grade boost.
This guy is a bad teacher. He kind of expects you to just know how to solve problems and does not teach it properly, rather expects you to be able to follow his solutions. Problem sets are unfair. He is not helpful or understanding either. Took this class for no lab component, but I regret it. Horrible class because of him.
Interesting content and unique delivery style. We had student presentations at the beginning of each lecture with participation marks then Q/A with the prof. He provided out of class online lectures and expanded on ideas in class. Exams were problem solving based and representative of content. Very easy if you prefer problem solving over memorizing
Dr Jaeger is awesome. His lectures were short (20-30mins) and the problem sets required thinking outside of the box but were not impossible. They definitely got easier as the course progressed. His practice exams were extremely similar to the actual exams. Overall very fair and funny guy. Really good no lab chem option
Great teacher, easy to understand, married to Dr. Xu.
The presentation worth 10% of grade was helpful, and takes up most of class time for most of semester (Watching and asking questions about presentations is part of the grade). Lecture videos before class, then explained concepts clearly in class while going through practice questions. midterms were super fair if you do the practice.
Could not recommend a prof more than Wolfgang. Allows multiple paths for marks (presentation, ten 3-6Q problem sets, 2 midterms, & final). The presentation is the easiest 10% you could get, literally just do it, show up and ask question(s). He is very clear in how to solve questions, and gives many examples throughout lectures.
Chem 303 is down played for how difficult it is. This class forces you to think outside the box. Wolfgang was super caring and wants all his students to succeed. The course itself isn't crazy heavy but is definitely unlike any other chemistry course. The assignments can be a little difficult. Presentation (10%) is easy marks. Final was very fair.
Did not provide lecture notes online and notes were not friendly. If you did not have an ipad or any screen you could write one, you would not be able to take proper notes during the lectures. He also does not post annotated notes..
Course handled badly by department, but this professor is great. Approachable to students, takes questions readily, and a good communicator of information. That being said, lecture is unfriendly to whoever doesn't have a device as only fillable outlines are posted online and the problems covered are different/easier than what was seen in exams.
This comment goes out to the organic chemistry tutor. The actual one who carried me through the course while my professor decided to not explain half the things he writes down during the lectures.
Was met by such a passionate professor. Class felt entertaining, and therefore engaging. Although you need an IPad, or some way to annotate the slides, I do think he is really fair when it comes to all the resources that are given out, he prepares us for every single midterm and exam we have taken thus far, couldn't recommend him more.
He's a chill guy, but cannot teach chemistry. He goes over vague broad questions in class and puts hard questions on the midterms/practice sets . Honestly YouTube did more for me than he did. Going to his class is useless because you'll have to teach yourself everything anyway. Office hours also not helpful, you have to study lots!
Wolfgang Jaeger is an enigma. He claims he wants us to succeed; however, his problem sets can be useless with questions that require you to pull chemistry out of your ass. There are good ones, but most of them leave you questioning your science degree. He writes his own final, so pay attention to what he says as he tells you what will be on it.
Jaeger is kind but teaches like it's a review session. I think that since it's been so long since he took chem 101, he thinks students know more than they do coming in. Readings before class are a MUST for understanding. Go to Babooram or Gedik's lectures and skip Jaeger; make a friend in the class because he will tell you what is on the exam.
Worst teaching
He's a nice guy but genuinely does not know how to teach Chem 101. My friend who was in Baboorams class came to my lecture once because he didn't believe it when I told him how bad he was, and after the lecture my friend said Wolfgang made topics he understood confusing. His final was also genuinely the worst thing I have ever seen in my life.
Lectures made 0 sense, class averages 10-20 percent below other classes. unless you can teach yourself the material, there is zero reason to take it with this prof. Final contained barely any material present in the practice finals, and was absolutely horrible. If you have this prof drop the class.
If you can, save yourself the time and pick any other prof. He reads the slides word for word, doesn't add on any important information but when he mentions the most minute irrelevant sounding detail it's gonna be worth 5 points on the exam. The only thing good about his class is that he records the lecture so you don't have to physically show up.
he genuinely reminds me of a sweet old man and he wanted us to do good. but omd u will do bad in this class. choose a different prof. if u want an 80 u will get a 50. the final was significantly harder than all the other profs. my friends were not tested on some of the material we saw on the final (unit cells). both midterms also terrible. :(
Jaeger is a nice man but not very good at teaching. Lectures consisted of him reading off slides and his train of thought was hard to follow during lectures even when attending in person. The two midterms were fair but the final was diabolical and tested the most niche concepts. Be prepared to teach yourself the course material or drop the course.
Not very helpful in office hours. Lectures are all over the place. Did terrible on my midterm, genuinely asked for advice and how to improve, he scoffed at my midterm and said it was "catastrophic." As u can see, not sympathetic at all. Gave advice on how to time manage (I work a lot) but kinda felt like he spoke in a condescending way.
Preposterous. I thought Wolfgang and I were bonded, but his lectures were incomprehensible—slides never explained, just circled. I attended every class, studied ~10h, and still did badly. (take into account his class averages r like 20% lower than others) Switched to Baboram's lectures and scored ~30% higher. Final was horrid. Not 101-level. RUN.
Genuinely seems like a caring guy who loves chemistry, but some of his lectures go very in depth into topics you won't necessarily need to know and a lot of people get lost there. On the contrary he gives lots of resources to help you succeed so ultimately it's up to you.
Jaeger was genuinely the worst prof ever. His lectures were so unclear and his final was not fair at all. His problem sets don't make any sense either. I would recommend to switch to a different class immediately as it was impossible to do well in his class.
This class was a struggle. The professor mumbles, forgets what he's saying mid-sentence, and fills the board with arrows and circles that somehow mean something to him. Tests don't match lectures or practice at all. Midterm average was 56 he said it was “quite good.” Use YouTube.
His lectures are way too complicated and include so much unnecessary stuff. Instead of building on basics, he will throw everything at you. Also other reviews said questions from the problem sets will be on the midterm, which could not be more untrue. The first midterm was on VSEPR theory and the problem sets were entirely on stoichiometry.
I kind of got the feeling that he also had no idea what was going on.
"My job isnt to make sure you fully understand" Dude youre the prof
Super amazing person, but it feels like he explains things quickly at a higher level so lectures are hard to follow. Expect to study a lot on your own time if you want to do well, though the content itself isn't too bad. Though he's very nice and I found his marking quite lenient, so I enjoyed his class.
Jaeger is a good person and a good prof. His lectures were a bit unclear sometimes but if you go to his office hours, he will make sure you understand. Sometimes he is a little harsh but willing to answer your questions. His problem sets are way too hard and sometimes off topic. Read the textbook and go to office hours and you will do just fine.
not good, problem sets dont reflect the difficulty of the exams--"dont memorize just remember"--croski, like what does that mean, stemble was quite easy/slides were okay, he explains things without building on a good foundation, take another professor if you can--not a good professor genuinely. Not here to teach good.
there were definitely times where i had to teach myself stuff, but he's not bad at explaining things. his stemble quizzes aren't bad either. chem 101 is just a hard class tho, especially in your first year
