I only had 8 people in my class, so the professor was able to get in touch with everyone. Most of the physic stuff requires you to know lot of things beforehand. He can be funny from time to time but he does seem serious about teaching physics. This class is pretty hard in general but, exams shouldn't be too hard but professor can be a tough grader

Xian Wu is possibly the worst professor I have had at UConn. He explained everything very poorly, and all the students in my class just went to the TAs for help because no one had any idea as to what was going on. This is a difficult class, so I would suggest taking it with any other professor if you can.

You must attend the lecture simply for the participation points/labs/"tutorials", BUT study concepts on your own time, b/c material and questions are presented in a way that people don't understand what's being asked. ExpertTA, the actual TA's, and other online sources are the best resources for success. Would recommend a different prof. Good luck!

Assignments are structured in a complicated way (tutorials, labs, hw, etc), professor doesn't help at all, and encourages reading the syllabus for every question instead of doing his job.

lessons are incoherent and labs are rarely similar to classwork. handwriting is illegible and is difficult to understand. Consistently leaves class before it is over and leaves everything to the TAs. Does not help students with problems, instead tells them to look at posted slideshows, which are always incomplete. AVOID IF POSSIBLE

Professor Wu doesnt explain the concepts too clearly. He leaves after class during the lecture and lets the TAs (who are great and explain concepts better than the prof.) handle helping during the tutorial problems. Participation is necessary for iClicker and tutorial problems. Make sure to explain as much as you can on the labs to avoid losing pts

never take this class with Wu. He is very hard to understand and if you ask him for help he will pretty much make you feel stupid if you don't understand anything. He doesn't post his slides till after class and there have been times when he hasn't posted the slides at all. The Ta's are a lot better so make sure to see them for help.

extremely hard to understand, teaching is kind of odd. he doesn't really engage class that well just does examples that half the class doesn't understand then just goes through it and doesn't help the students understand. I already took AP physics 1 and got a 5 and can confidently say his teaching is questionable at best.

Wu is not a good teacher, he does not explain concepts well and it not receptive to struggling students, which is most of the class. He is impossible to reach outside of class and never responds to his email. Probably will be better off with anyone besides him.

He's obviously smart and knows the material but doesn't seem to understand that he's supposed to help US understand,he assumes we all get the concepts and basically just breezes through examples without stopping to explain. great guy but not the best at helping students understand physics concepts. I can safely say my TAs saved me this semester

Knows his stuff, but doesn't know how to teach it. Assumes we understand all the concepts and skips a lot of things. Do the tutorial problems and hope you have good TAs (they make or break this class). Lots of partial credit given for quizzes and exams. Homework is typically way harder than exams.

He struggles to explain simple concepts in a way that is understandable to students. Some problems are because of the already shaky physics department here but he certainly makes a bad curriculum worse. If you must take him you'll get through it, but be prepared to be frustrated at his rude comments and incomprehensible lectures.

Just wasn't a good lecturer. Was too focused on explaining "why" instead of just giving us the basic problems to help build up our confidence in the topics. TAs helped a lot so thank god to them. Clearly passionate about physics and teaching but his antics just hurt more than help.

choose anyone else. he won't teach during lecture and doesn't show up any other class. TA's do all the work and actually teach as much as possible. loves to repeat himself without actually saying anything to answer questions. don't bother asking questions
