Can't understand what he is saying, but he gives a lot of extra credit which is good
A really nice guy once you get to know him. He'll help if you ask for it, otherwise he can be hard because he's a little hard to understand. Considering the other options for calculus (Rocca) this is the guy to go with.
very tough class. cant understand anything he is saying. all he talks about are stupid 6th graders who know everything and we cant figure it out.
Very hard to understand with accent, however the class is very easy, and he is a good guy.
O..M..G..I strongly urge you...DON'T TAKE HIM!! He does not know english and does not teach any shortcuts. Hard class in general, so take it w/someone else..I beg you. DO not take it..He is nice and does give extra credit. That does not help when you are failing his extrememly hard Tests!!
he goes waaaaay too fast and his accent is pretty hard to understand
Press 1 for Xioda Wang
Wang will give you a good grade if you go to class and try hard. I'm so bad at math, but I got an A in the class. Don't get discouraged because he's hard to understand. If you do your homework and ask questions, you will do great!
Honestly a nice guy, looks kinda like William Hung, but the class is impossible, hard to understand and tests are hard
a very nice guy, extremely smart, an english accent, but it's not that bad, he's always there for his students and never let anyone behind, he teachs u a lot of new things in math and tricks u can use with any other subject
Unbelievably unhelpful and very hard to understand in general
Nice guy, good teacher if you can understand the material. It's a little hard to understand him, but you can't fail his class it's just not possible.
Honestly, I never understood what this guy was saying but I ended up with a B. I didn't usually go to class. He never checked the hw so you don't really have to do it. Do the extra credits whenever you can.
The hardest class I have ever taken. Dr Wang did an excellent job being available 2 help & he even gave out his cell number so we could call him 4 help, but this class killed me. Unfortunately I just had a hard time understanding him. I also wish he gave more practical examples because now I know how to do some ODE, but I don't know how to use it.
nice guy, hard to understand
I took Wang for MAT 118- he is very hard to understand because he speaks in an asian style. Unless you do well on the very hard tests, you have to go to class all the time to do the extra credit. I had a 60 average on my tests but managed to get an A- for the class because I completed 3/4 of the extra credit assignments. Not terrible for 118
Very difficult to understand, but absolutely impossible to do badly in this class. He gives bonus points every week and is available anytime you need help. He even held an extra study session for the final exam on a Sunday. The tests and quizzes are all copies of the homework, just the numbers are changed.
Awful!! I have had some crazy classes but this takes the cake. I don't understand a word he says. I don't know how he's kept his job, cause he is the worst teacher I've ever had.
Not easy to understand (heavy asian accent) however, he is a very good teacher. He is always available for extra help, he even made time over the weekend to help out before a final.
This class was very difficult and although Dr. Wang is a very smart guy, he is a poor teacher. He often rushed through topics, made many errors on the board and was very unclear about what he wanted from us. The thing that bothered me the most is that he did not give us much partial credit. If you show the effort you will pass, but it will be hard.
couldnt understand him very hard teacher
horrible professor. rude, unprepared for class and impossible to understand.
DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER- he yells at you when you go to extra help and has NO idea what he's doing when it comes to actualy teaching. You can't understand when he mubles to the board, and he won't teach you anything-just get you frustrated in class. Don't think you're going to enjoy this class. it SUCKS-end of story.
Canno understand him and he went through the material way to quickly
So im sitting in this dudes class as i type and this guy I cant understand a word he says and I have to teach myself by using the book which is online my test average is like a 49.9 but because he counts homework and attendance so much it is easy to get a B like i have I mean this class is very irratating he pisses you off but easy to pass do HW!
He's the Man!! he's a true genius. not for weak students who dont like math tho, you gotta kep up woth him and know what ur doing :)
HE'S JUST AWESOME.
my average in the class was a 62 and he gave me a B take it its hard as hell but he gives out passing grades
Very hard to understand. Doesnt like to answer questions during class. Never at his designated office hours. However, I didnt pass a quiz or the midterm and he still gave me a good grade. If you are not a whiz or if you hate math, don't sign up for his class!
He is very hard! He is inconsiderate of older students who have been out of school for more than 4 yrs. He just assumes you should know the material. He doesn't know how to explain the material, he is smart don't get me wrong but he is not cool. I had his class once a week and he gave a quiz every time we had class. I urge you don't take him.
He is not the great Math teacher but his formula is: attendance+homework=success. That said, he counts attendance and all the worksheets. They help a lot/add extra points on all the quizes. He doesn't really answer your questions in class but if you're willing to put up with a challenging math course takeit,do thework/projects he'll curve your grade.
Extremely unclear with everything while giving constant quizzes and tests
Doesn't teach class at all. i went for help and he just referred me back to my text book.
This is a pretty difficult class if math isn't your thing. Dr. Wang is a really bright and nice guy but he does explain concepts pretty quickly. Do the in class worksheets and he will give you extra credit that helps a lot. If you put the work in you will get a good grade.
If you didn't take calculus in high school and did well, this class might be a struggle. He is not the clearest in his explanations, but he gives A LOT of extra credit. Even if you fail all the quizzes and get a lot of extra credit, you will end up with at least a C. With that said, I would take him!
Good teacher, gives out lots of extra credit if you go wrong. Anybody can earn an "A" in this class if you do work.
I have a 3.6 gpa and I had to drop his class. Goes through material too quick. Tests and quizes too hard for me. A lot of homework. Don't take this class unless you already know the material. Which makes taking a class pointless...
I found his class to be very easy, I received an A. For this course you do not need to use the book, he says to do HW but all of the quizzes are based on in class worksheets that are worth extra credit points. Also midterm and final are exact problems based on worksheets and quizzes. He is very caring and just wants all of his students to pass.
Hard class
Tough class, but if you can actually spend your time to learn and do hw, you can earn an A
Very hard
I couldn't pass his class
The hardest class I ever took. Not much help as he moves to fast through lecture.
I have a 3.4 GPA. I heard his class was tough but I took it because it fit my school schedule. It was a big mistake taking it, because he moves way to fast and I couldn't keep up. I ended withdrawing the class and so did many other classmates. Do not take his class!
He tells you to do your homework and says it will be the same as on the test, but it is completely different and confusing. He gives extra credit but not enough and his projects are graded extremely hard. Would not take again. And do not recommend for anyone to take.
Moves to quick on assignments. I couldn't understand him, as he likes to move along very fast.
Yes, he move fast. But hey- its math. get over it. I got an A in this class and many other too. The people who keeps complaining sits at the back chatting away etc. Sit to the front and you will get a good grade. Do the homework because the test and quiz are exactly the same as the HW. If you dont want to work, you will not get an A, vice versa.
He is hard to understand in the sense that he has a thick Chinese accent and speaks in a very soft tone. During class he teaches the fundamentals, but for the homework and tests he expects you to automatically know beyond what he taught you. If you want to even pass this class get tutoring help and go for extra help whenever you can!
Very hard to understand. I've asked for help many times and did not receive much at all. If he did offer help, he criticized me for not understanding the material. He goes through the material too fast and doesn't offer enough time to complete in class assignments. Short tempered. The best way to pass the class is to get help from the math clinic.
I have been at Western for three years and Dr. Wang has been my least favorite professor. His classes are disasters and linear algebra was impossible.. He gave us so much homework that he couldn't even grade it in time for the end of the semester. DO NOT recommend.
The only possible way you can fail this class is to do nothing. This is college math class, not social science or those low level algebra classes. You need to work hard to earn it. He gives a lot of homework, but it is for your own benefits. He is tough, but if you are a hard working student, he will definitely put efforts (a lot) into you
He assigns so much homework and grades all of it very toughly. He is hard to understand in lecture and will explain something poorly then get mad when no one knows what he's talking about. Gets mad when you ask a question because you're just "supposed to know it". However, he curves your final grade and will give extra credit opportunities.
He is a nice person and very smart, but can not teach to save his life. The textbook does not really explain anything either, so if you want to pass you have to use chegg study. I honestly thought I was going to get a C in the class, but somehow got an A-, which I think is due to the fact that everyone did bad and he didn't want to look bad.
I have no doubt Professor Wang is a smart guy, but that doesn't always translate to being a good teacher. He has a thick accent, and he moves really fast, so most of the time you're going to be lost. He gives out a quiz each week so study hard as those make the majority of your grade. The book isn't needed, study from the worksheets, and seek help.
This is by far the worst professor I have ever had in my college career. The combination of his mumbling and accent makes him almost impossible to understand. Not to mention, if you ask him a question or to explain anything he will angry with you and act like you're a moron. If you have an opportunity to take this class with another teacher DO IT
He is very hard to understand. Gives a lot of homework for you to practice but does not check it, so if you don't do it you will get behind. The nice thing about this class is that after the midterm he gives a lot of extra credit because everyone is failing. He gives out a quiz every week. If you don't need to take this class, don't take it.
Professor Wang does not teach very well. Many of the reviewers refer to his accent, which is not the issue at all. The problem is that he does not explain the concepts behind the math he is teaching, which leaves many students confused when it comes to word problems. If you have the opportunity to take a different professor, you should.
The WORST professor I have ever had in my life. I finished Calculus II with an A and was forced to withdraw from Calculus III due to his lack of teaching. NEVER take a class with him.
He was the worst professor I have ever had. If you aren't good at math, then you won't pass this class. I had to teach myself all of Calculus 3 in order to get a passing grade. He was just so horrible and the harshest grader. Please, for your own sanity, don't take a class with him!!!
This guy has to be the worst teacher I've ever had in my life. The man barely speaks english so he can't explain math problems, and instead of teaching the material he just recites the problem then expects you to learn it. The class is absolute trash and you can't even ask him questions because he response is always "check your math" NO MATTER WHAT
He's really nice if you attend the weekend classes. It's only 1.5 hours, and his math is challenging. But if you study hard he's an amazing teacher, plus he gives cookies and doughnuts at the end of class. Very nice professor.
He's nice and all, but he assigns A LOT of homework. His extra help isn't that useful, but hey- you're supposd to study hard. Even though his class is extremly hard, if you study and work on it it can be really useful. For example, I had to complete Calculus 3 y studying 3 hours a night on it, but it helped me a lot and now I'm and engineer. Great!
Well, Professer Wang has always been my favorite professer at West Connecticut. Overall, he's a nice guy and a good teacher. He gives a lot of homework and it's famishing. But if you work hard at it, his class can really give you a reward. He always springs pop quizes, and you have to be ready for it. The bad students are the ones talking in class
The worst class I have taken at WCSU. You can barely understand his accent and he rushes through lectures. Never expect to get out early and if you ask questions, he gets mad. If you need extra help, he refers you to the Math Emporium. The hw is very hard, I needed a tutor even though I am a very good student. He puts little effort in as a prof
This has to be the worst professor I've ever had in my life. You can barely understand his accent, he speaks quietly. He only restates what was said prior if you ask him a question. Refuses to correct himself, even if the right answer is in the textbook in front of him. DO NOT take a course with this professor, you will be sorry.
A-H-X. Gets mad when you ask questions. Impatient.
This professer has to be one of my least favorite during my college years. The guy has a thick accent and you can barely undestand him, and he moves super fast. I literally had to spend all my free time working on this class to get a B-. He doesn't even stop to ask questions and when you do he looks at you like you're an idiot and says, DO THE HW
best prof ever
He's a good proffesor, though the homeworks are sometimes long and so are lectures but extensions are good, outside information is avaliable, and you actually end up learning what you're doing. He's extremly caring about his students
In my life as a student Dr. Wang is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. He is very smart but he doesnt know how to teach. All class he solves problems while we watch and he gives little to no explanation of it at all. He goes fast and talks quietly so you cant hear him well. You have to teach yourself everything bc he teaches nothing. 1/10
Please for your own sanity do not take Dr. Wang’s class. He literally doesnt teach. He gives so much homework and you have to teach yourself the entire course if you want a chance. I call his class “mental torture” because you sit through the whole class watching him solve math problems without explaining anything. It is very frustrating.
Professor Wang is EXTREMELY smart. That being said, he is not a great teacher. He speeds along insanely fast, only teaching by whispering into the white board and speeding through problems too fast for anyone to understand. If you take this class, be ready to teach yourself. I regret taking this class with Professor Wang.
I regret taking his class. Hes very smart but impatient. He teaches like we know what hes talking about. He gets mad when you dont know whats going on or you get answers wrong because its easy (his words). He mumbles and speeds through the lectures. Do not miss more than 3 classes or you FAIL automatically.
There are a few words I would use to discribe Dr. Wang. Uncaring and unmotivated would be the tamest things I would say to describe him. He puts in so little effort with so little explaination but then turns around and expect PHD level understanding of the topic from his students Avoid at all cost and change school if Math major
Abysmal. If there is ever a class that I need to graduate taught by man I fully intend to transfer schools. Never in my life have I endured such incompetency. Inaccessible (you are lucky if he replies to emails, never seen more than four words in re-), ineffectual (lectures at best incoherent and at worst detrimental) - no space HAVE writ essay
My time with Wang was not a pleasant one. He was a rough professor and made a student cry saying she will not pass. She ended up passing this class. He is a tough professor but I will credit him with letting us do classwork for a few extra points each class. If you can avoid taking this professor, please. There are many teachers who teach MAT-118.
He is a good guy once you get to know him. Go to his office hours and show that you are trying and you should be fine. A softy at heart. He truly cares when he sees that you want to pass. A lovely gentleman.
Does not teach material well and talks very quietly. However, he started to give a lot of extra credit after half the class dropped his course.
Be prepared to teach yourself because this guy can't. He rushes through his lectures, gets defensive when you ask questions and mumbles into the whiteboard. Class is very exam and homework heavy. Would recommend taking with any of the other professors. DO NOT TAKE WITH THIS PROFESSOR.
Not a good professor. Has taught the course over 100 times and shows zero empathy or concern for the student's learning and development. Time to retire or be let go.
Makes you pay $90 to do your homework, bad at explaining the things he is teaching and teaching overall, basically learn most things on your own because if not you will fail. Not a hard class, just the professor.
This might be the worst professor I've ever had. He teaches as if we already took the course and just show up twice a week for funsies. And then gets mad when you don't understand the material and ask for help. We had told him we don't understand the material because its difficult and he told us we were wrong. -∞/10
GUY IS A JOKE DO NOT TAKE DROP ASAP DONT DO WHAT I DID YOU WILL NOT BE FINE IM SAVING U TIME AND MONEY AND MENTAL HEALTH AND GAS THANK ME WHEN YOUR OUT OF THE CLASS
NEVER TAKE ONE OF HIS CLASSES. BY FAR THE WORST PROF IVE EVER HAD. HE BARELY EVEN KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING. BY FAR THE BIGGEST WASTE OF GAS AND MONEY. IM SAVING YOU AND WARNING YOU DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH WANG.
Professor wang is extremely unprofessional and rude. He has yelled at me multiple times for asking questions. He doesn't explain anything while lecturing. Our class shrunk from around 30 people to more like 12. Unfortunately I had to withdrawal from the course because I could not understand a single thing he said or taught. Avoid this professor.
Professor Wang is an extremely intelligent man. given that, he lacks the skills it takes to be a good/helpful teacher. be prepared to teach yourself is content and PLEASE go to the math clinic as soon as possible if you wish to pass his class. please if you are freshman switch his class.
Communication and teaching are abysmally bad. Unclear during lectures, and if you had any questions, he would disregard it and inform you that "if you had done the homework, you would understand." Very difficult, with a exam nearly every week, but he may give lots of extra credit near the end of the term. Textbook is your best friend.
Terrible gets mad when u ask questions avoid at all cost I'm saving you money and time half the class is not there expects u to study for 50 hours a week talks to himself during lectures DO NOT TAKE
Had to teach myself nearly every concept. More than half the class withdrew after the midterm so he began handing out extra credit like it was candy. Homework assigned every class, a quiz once a week, 2 projects. Gets heated when you ask him to re explain a concept for you.
WARNING DO NOT TAKE!!! He does not teach, i had to teach myself everything which took me a lot of time outside of class and it made it very difficult for me to keep up, a lot of people withdrew within the first couple of weeks, quiz one a week and he only goes over the material once so fast to the point you are more confused then you already were
- Jumps from topic to topic without clarification - Feels like you're being talked down to when talking with him - Insane amount of homework which is graded and if you dont show work you don't get credit for that question, even if its simple - Does not respond to emails often but sends many which is weird. - Can't rely on syllabus for due dates
Do not take this class if you dont have to. Could be such a great class but unfortunately the professor just simply doesnt care about teaching. Insane amounts of hw and very low quality lectures, you basically just have to teach yourself everything. Good luck if this is a required class.
can barley understand what he is saying, he does not answer emails or answer questions during the semester. gives a quiz every other class with a homework assignment almost every day. doesn't even understand the math hes teaching
Incoherent lectures and a ton of homework, quiz every week with little to no meaningful assistance
Please do not choose this class, the subject may seem easy at first but this professor will make it so difficult to learn that you'll likely struggle anyway. Horrible lectures you can't understand, quiz every week, and almost no compassion shown towards students. Avoid if you can
stay away from this guy.
Can barely understand what he's saying, very hard accent. Fire this guy I don't understand how he's been working here for this long. I can barely understand the lectures. Easy subject and could be a good class but the professor makes it a horrible class.
Do not take his class.
Very strict on attendance and participation (could honestly be a + if you struggle with commitment like me), just has very boring lectures that are difficult to follow and feels rather cold towards students reaching out for help. Nice guy, though.
