Very helpful and intelligent, but there is a language barrier. If you are taking an 099 or a 101 course, he might not be for you. You should do fine in other English courses with him.

He is a very great professor. He grades fairly. His class is not hard if you put your time into learning seriously. I like the way he teach. He guides the students to a right road of being successful in writting. He is the best.

He is really cute and smart. He had us look up the authors on Google, and we had to write a research paper on one of the short stories. We wrote homework and our reaction on the stories. If we did our homework then this helped us write the essays. Overall, he is fair and if you do your work---he will honor that.

You have to work hard in his class. He is very fair with your grade. It depends on you to reach a high grade. Just one advice, work hard and don't be lazy.

He is a very good professor. As long as you do your work and hand it in on time you will be fine. He is a fair grader. Like most professors, you have to earn a good grade it will not just be given to you. He takes into consideration that you are trying your best and he is willing to listen. I took him for both Eng 101 & 102 and I got an A in both.

He is very helpful professor. If you take his class and work hard, you will improve your writing. He is very English speaker and treat everyone equally.

If someone wants to get an A, you'd better do well in essay and reserach paper, especially, reserach paper. Spending your time to go to writing center before you hand your reserach paper...

Very cool guy, hes funny and SUPER laid back, can count on him to give you extra help and btw im not chinese, he helps everyone the same way. Doesnt stress for nothing, you can treat him like a friend, maybe not as clear as others professors and his class is very easy. I am the worst procrastinator ever, always did my work late and still got a B

Professor Yen is straight forward and demands just what any professor wants, which is show up, do the work, and you will pass. He did not show any favoritism towards anyone, and if you need help he was there to assist. If you think you might have an issue turning in work on time just tell him he is understanding.

This professor is very nice! I love this professor! He is really helpful in the class! He gives his students enough time to prepare each essay! His courses are funny! He also treats every person fair. Choose his class! It is a good choice!

he's extremely helpful and straight forward. it's easy to understand his class, and he's a fair grader. youve gotta be a real problem not to pass his class. to get an A, just do what you gotta do. that's all. he's funny and kind. i just loved his class, both eng102 and eng250.

I love this prof. This is my last semester at LAGCC. He gave me a good time here. To the people who said he is bad or has favor to immigrants, u should go back to check ur writing skills. if u cannot write better than an recent immigrant, u fail. Losers deserve a bad grade.

He basically spoon feeds everything already, you just have to write all those in essay form and some people still trips over that. Very nice prof and easy class.

This teacher is very understanding and gives a lot of chances to make sure you receive a good grade in the class. He wants to see you succeed. He doesn't use a text book, but he gives you short stories to read online that are easy/ self explanatory. You can do your work in class and finish that same day. 1-5 , I give him a 4

I took his ENG 102 class in the 6 week period. Overall he is a really easy and helpful professor. If you follow his directions you are sure to success even if you do not like writing. However you need to do your part as well. I absolutely disagree that he favors anyone. That is really untrue! In our class he paid attention to each one of us equally

He is a great professor that talks to everyone of his students individually. You can tell he really is concerned for students progress. However, he is very strict on grammar. so make sure you get your paper reviewed at the writing center. He allows you to revise an essay once and get the combined grade. Not an easy A, but definitely achievable

I had prof Yen in the short term period. I found him extremely helpful. He worked with all students as he wanted us all to succeed. His requirements are totally normal and doable. I do recommend him. His accent in nowhere as bad as some of the Indian professors I've taken. His accent is no issue!

Professor Yen definitely cares about his students. His wants us to succeed and always makes time to meet with him individually. While his assignments are not easy, he gives us chances to rewrite each essay. Overall, it was a great class and I would take it again.

I liked taking his class. He cares about his students a lot. There are too much assigned work you have to do to keep your grade at a decent level. But I guess the writing course should have that much of work. If you go to the writing center that will be helpful. Attendance is mandatory.

Professor Yen is the best in the English Dept. He knows his stuff, his classes are very interesting, his lectures are amazing. He is always willing to help when you need it. I recommend Prof Yen to any one who is out to learn. Great teacher!

Professor Yen is a great professor who gives great lectures. He is very helpful and makes sure you understand the material. The stories he gave us were very entertaining. He is without a doubt the best English teacher!

Prof Yen is one of the best English prof in LAGCC! He's always there to help his students. The stories which he picks are very interesting and let you really want to read. He takes rewrite grade, but notice that make sure to correct grammar mistakes in your essay, he is really care about grammar. Most stories can be found online.

After being out of school for 9 years I returned and was a bit rusty with my writing, but through working with this Professor I was able to improve which helped me in every class. Also, he allows a first draft then a rewrite, his comments on your paper give you a guideline to get 100 on each essay.

don't listen to the comment below lol. he only comments on grammar if you are terrible at it lol overall it's a reasonable class as long as you pay attention and do the assignments.. plus hes more than willing to help if you have any questions at all.. only ppl that fail are those who dont ask for help and dont pay attention

Professor Yen is the best English professor I have come across ever! He is available to help during his office hours and he answers your questions very well. I took him for English 102 and he is very clear about his assignments and is very caring about his students! We need more professors like him in lgcc!

Amazing professor! Yes, he is a bit tough on grammar, but he gives you the chance to redo each paper except the final. He is always there to help and he is funny too.

Prof. Yen is an amazing teacher. I loved every single one of his classes because he made them interesting. He helps you out ALOT , just make sure to listen carefully to what exaclty is what he expects and your grade will be an A.

Great English instructor, but doesn't give you an easy pass even if English is your strong subject.

For an 8AM winter course, this professor really made school enjoyable! Just do the assignments and you will get an easy A.

He is a great professor but him teaching at LaGuardia is a insult because doesn't care if you do all the work and come to class and try hard he will still fail you all he cares is if you learn. he should be in a university he's helpful but not to clear. you can do his work just like he ask and he will still fail you because it doesn't appease him

His essays are about readings that are discussed multiple times before the deadline. He gives clear topics and asks your opinion about it. His topics are interesting and all connected. He really cares about improving students's writing skills. He gives suggestions and answers your questions.

I missed quite a few classes & I still got an A. Besides the fact that I love writing, his grading criteria & assignments were so concise that I was able to more than catch up in time. The literature he chose was stimulating & compelling. Easy A for me personally but you need to be self-motivated to excel. The discussions were very beneficial.

He lets us rewrite our essays and he is very nice. He leaves 11 simple assignments and they are not overwhelming. I recommend this professor !!!!!!!!!!!

He is the best English Professor. He's very nice and caring. He gives amazing lectures and picks interesting literature. He gives simple homework assignments and clear instructions on essays. He allows you to rewrite after lots of feedback. He guides you through everything and gives you plenty of time to complete assignments. Very enjoyable class.

I love this professor, he gives you a chance to do a rewrite and if you explain any problems he tries to help you as much as he can, he answers his emails in a timely manner, I recommend his class if you're ready to work you will get an A.

Mr. Yen is a great English professor. He gives you a chance to rewrite your essays after much feedback. His grading is pretty tough but once you do the work and apply yourself, it should be pretty easy. He offers a lot of help with preparing for essays. I will definitely take him again for Eng102

Prof. Yen made an 8AM winter class extremely tolerable! He chooses great works of literature that make the class enjoyable. Easy A so long as you do the work. He even gives you opportunities to revise your work. His accent may be thick to some but he was so worth it! I would definitely recommend him.

Good professor. Papers are based on in class readings. Will talk with everyone about mistakes and how to improve. Helped me a lot improving my writing and grammar.

I truly enjoyed this class! The readings are handed out in class(no textbooks). Class consists of several essays, & rewrites are strongly recommended. The rewrite grade is the final grade for your essay. Don't slack on the assignments, you can use em for the essays later, literally! Hint:Listen to his instructions! Follows syllabus! Participate!

Professor, Yen is truly a Professor who has a passion in teaching, also such a respectable brilliant and knowledgeable prof. He cares & consider the students, if you show your efforts and willing in learning. I enjoyed so much every interesting literature that he choose for the class. Prof. Yen is a great prof. ever !!! Amazing professor. He always lets us re write our work, as long as you are handing in all of your work and working on his feedback it will be impossible not to receive an A. Also his topics for eng 101 & eng 102 are very unique and interesting for writing compositions.

Prof Yen is truly a gem at Lagcc. You can tell he has a passion for literature and it makes the class so refreshing. I took him for English 101 & English 102. No textbooks, he lets you rewrite each essay, he gives tons of feedback and he makes himself very available to his students. Its impossible to fail his class.

Professor Yen is a great teacher with interesting topics and a friendly demeanor. His class is always interesting and full of discussion that leaves food for thought. His class is mostly based off of group discussion and essay writing. Overall, he is great and really goes out of his way to help you improve your writing.

Professor Yen takes his time to explain the work students will do since the beginning of the class. He is clear with the expectation of this course. He gives a lot of feedback so that the students can improve throughout the course. If you want to learn, take this class and be ready to do your work.

Professor Yen made me enjoy this course the most this semester. I've never been a fan of English courses but he made everything fairly simple. NO TEXTBOOK. 4 essays, the 2nd & 4th are the midterm & final. 1st 3 essays have an option to rewrite for a better grade. A few assignments before each essay that prepare for the essay. Great professor

He has a sense of humor, not overly funny. His grading criteria is clear so you can estimate your grade. He allows you to rewrite some of your essays. Use clear concise language! Limit the use of literary devices and keep it simple.I learned this the hard way. He will say it is "unclear" if you do and you will lose points.

I loved his class, I was often late or absent but he was able to help me catch up, he gave me great notes on my essays, very CLEAR with assignments and papers, he gave us 2 chances for each paper, and whichever grade was higher he would give us. He was a great professor overall, I wouldnt say an easy A, you have to participate and complete work.

The class was not hard at all. He gave three essays and 10 mini assignments that took about 5 mins each to do. This professor was organized and very easy going. The reading was interesting. Definitely take this class. He gives out great feedback and gives you a chance to rewrite your essays.

An amazing professor In total 10 assignment and 4 essays always gives you max points in your assignment and for essays he gives you the chance to rewrite it and earn more points If you pay attention to this class definitely you will get an A I chose him again for Eng 102

Best English professor you will ever find in your life. He teaches English well and he is excellent at grammar. Be ready to make New York Times your friend because that is where he takes his homework for students. Take this class you will never regret it.

One of the best professors I had lectures are easy to understand and is very kind. The homework is quite easy mostly reading and having to answer questions the essays itself are graded fairly he can also be to some a very strict grader in terms of pointing out mistakes and making sure you know what the mistakes were

Professor Xiaoping is the best. He is humble, kind and caring. If you pay attention and do all your assignments on time, you will be ok. He teaches very well, and genuinely cares for the betterment of his students. I am so glad i took his class and i plan to take ENG 102 with him as well.

Such a wonderful teacher. His gradings might seem a bit strict but before grading your essays he consults with you and really tries to let you get full marks. Best part about this course would be how you have an extra opportunity (rewrite) to correct all your mistake. Attendance was a bit strict ngl. But overall 10/10 experience.
