He acutally made pchem fun and interesting! Great class.
His lectures are organized, and it's helpful that he provides those slides at the class website. He does his best to explain really really difficult concepts , and a lot of the time succeeds. He's also great at giving extra help outside of class. Be prepared to brush up on those integration skills.
Best Chemistry professor I've had so far. Very organized and teaches material in a very logical order. Breaks down material as best he could (quantum is hard to teach!), which 99% of the time he is successful. Good sense of humor. Lays out expectations very clearly.
Dr. Li consistently showed that he cared about our learning.
Very straightforward class and very helpful teacher. In class test reviews were also very helpful. Midterms and finals are very similar to the practice tests he gives.
His class requires a lot of work if you want to keep up with lectures. But he is a funny guy and you'll enjoy listening to him lecturing p-chem stuff...
He is one of the best Chem Profs that I have ever had. I took Chem 455 and chem 465 from him. TAKE BOTH!!!!
This guy moved a little too fast for me, but he repeated everything over and over, so there's that. Honestly, I thought his TA was more helpful making things easier to understand. Expectations were pretty clear and homework was reasonable, although tests can be tough.
Best professor ive had at UW hands down. Funny and a genius. PChem had a notoriously bad rep when I went into it but Li turned all that around. Super interesting, well organized. The guy literally tells you problems that will be on the tests if you go to lecture. Its hard work and a bit math heavy but so very worth it. TAKE IT WITH HIM IF YOU CAN!
Awesome professor! Take his 455 and 456 if you can. I regret I didn't take 455 with him, because he knows how to teach! I got 4.0 in 456. Very very nice guy!
He's so adorable. You can barely understand him but he sends out all the power-points and reviews/keys to reviews. He's so nice and understanding. Very easy class. But he's a fantastic teacher and always willing to help!
He was very nice and tried his hardest to help but I couldn't get past his terrible handwriting and obscure accent. I am so excited to be done with his class.
I failed this class, but I wouldn't say that it was Professor Li's fault. He's a really nice guy, likes making jokes, and tries to motivate his students. The topics were difficult for me, but I think the majority of the class thought that it was fine compared to what they heard about other teachers. There were no surprises on tests, just study!
He's a nice guy, but his class was really confusing and I could never understand him. I would study really hard for his tests, and they felt impossible. The average grade was around a 60%. Not to mention ALEKS, quite possibly the worst homework site ever invented. Would not recommend this class to anyone.
This was his first time teaching Chem 142 and he had a bit of a difficult time explaining easy and general concepts. I didn't use the book at all since his material was more computations than anything.
Worst science class ever. Chem 142 would have been a lot better if he was actually prepared for lecture. I would come out of every lecture really confused. I was really disappointed about the overall quality of the class...
Dr. Li was a very nice guy. Does a good job of trying to motivate his students and has a positive attitude about everything. 142 with him was easy, I'm glad I had him. One of his tests was exactly the same as a worksheet he gave us. Just study the practice tests he gives you and do problems from the book and you'll be fine!
This was Professor Li's first time teaching 142 and it definitely showed. Lectures were sometimes confusing and tests were difficult, but I didn't find that he tried to use trick questions or test us on something he hasn't at least mentioned. He has a fun, light personality, but he's probably a better teacher for higher level chemistry classes.
A true legend. The best chemistry professor I have ever had at UW. #lizardsquad
He has a nice sense of humor and tries to make lectures very clear. Cool guy- really into the seahawks, makes fun of himself when he makes mistakes. I would take another class from him.
xiaosong LI is really an amazing teacher!!!!! love him!!!!!!
He's super kind, encouraging and funny. Very engaged during lecture, especially with demos. Encourages students to work hard and do well in the course. Has a heavy Chinese accent but fairly easy to understand. I don't think you would pas this class without going to lecture. His examples are not great, just go to the chem study center.
He is a really tough grader. His tests are never easy, think CAREFULLY before taking the classes.
I liked the class but the exams are tough. Felt really ill prepared for the final exam, the level of difficulty was above what he actually prepared us for.
TESTS ARE EASY!!!! I got 95 on my first exam, 100 on my second exam and 95 on my final exam. And I got 4.0 !!!!! When I come to his office, and he can remember all my scores just after I told him my name!!!! this teacher is amazing!!!! His exam is very easy, all you need to do is listening to the lecture carefully and you can get 4.0 easily!!
While some of the information covered in lecture was pretty boring, Professor Li's sense of humor made the class fairly enjoyable. The tests were very reasonable and involved a lot of calculations.
awesome!!!!!!
Li is awesome. I came into 142 thinking I wouldn't stand a chance, but he made everything extremely to understand in the lectures, even though they can be fast paced. However, he posts all of his slides online, and his practice midterms are exactly like the tests. I wish he was teaching 152, because I would definitely take another class by him.
His teaching has too many gaps, his lectures are hard to follow and he's too confident in his English and speaks quickly but really it is hard to understand him when he goes off on long lectures about a topic. But he's easier than other professors.
He is really hard to understand and doesn't explain practice problems he does in class. His tests are hard and his practice tests aren't similar to the actual tests. He hardly gives you any resources to study with, I would recommend looking for a different teacher if you have him.
I was scared for this class, but professor Li made it a lot easier. Just make sure to attend class and go over his lecture slides at home (I usually went over the lecture slides ahead of time so I can listen during lectures). Exams are just like the practice tests he gives out.
Professor Li is adorable! While the class and the material was hard to follow at times because of his accent, he really does try his best to make lectures fun and enjoyable! Expect to do lots of outside reading and homework problems if you even want an average grade in this class.
He is pretty reachable and actually replies to your email. Very easy to see him during his office hour. His tests are not too easy but are very similar to the practice tests he gives out. Occasionally adds some humor in class, which is nice. From what I heard, I thinks he is the easiest chem 142 teacher this quarter.
Great Professor. I Was very nervous going into Chem 142 but this class was much easier than I thought it was going to be. Lectures were fine and covered all of the information that was going to be on the test. He is very generous with his grades, if you score above one standard deviation on the tests and do ok on the labs expect a 4.0.
Sometimes it's hard to follow along during lecture and that he messes up occasionally when explaining practice problems but overall his lectures were enjoyable. When he messed up he laughed it off and his sense of humor made the lectures bearable. The midterms were doable but I found the final to be more difficult so be prepared for that.
Pretty good professor and really care about his student
I think Professor Li is a solid choice for Chem142 especially if you have some chemistry background (he skips the easy parts). His tests were straight from his lectures and if you pay attention in class, you can definitely ace it. He puts a lot of focus on the tests, and he does demos a lot. His sense of humor is amazing. The TA (J) was cool too!!
Professor Li is so funny and genuine. He makes his lectures fun, although he tends to skip through the "easy" material really fast. His tests are different than his practice tests that he posts online, pay attention to clicker sessions because those questions will be on there! Labs were easy and TA was a lot of help.
Dr. Li's class was enjoyable, but the tests were hard. Make sure to come prepared for the tests if you want to score above median. Pay attention to lecture, as he usually focuses on topics that he is gonna put on the test. I'd say practice tests and problems in the back of the chapter were most helpful for tests. My TA was also really helpful.
I struggled quite a bit at the beginning of the course and did badly on my first midterm, but he was really approachable, was eager to talk over my exams with me, and was just overall really helpful and accessible and actually appeared invested in helping me understand the course material.
Heavy accent which makes listening to lectures very difficult. Known as the harder of all the chemistry professors. Speeds through problems on the board without working through the problems (to show you how to do them). Curve is set to 2.6 GPA.
Did not lay a good gen chem foundation for me. Went by content too fast, expecting us to figure out the rest on our own. What was worst was as a freshman, learning how to study was hard. He didn't seem interested in assisting us with that. Accent made it hard to follow, don't remember getting supplementary material. Tests were fair.
Second time taking Chem 142 and wow what a difference a professor makes. Professor Li is very accessible outside of class and really cares if you understand material or not. It may not seem like it in lecture but MAKE THE EFFORT TO GO TO OFFICE HOURS! That's what he is trying to tell his students.
Prof. Li is great! I found his lectures pretty informative, and he's not hard to follow (his accent is really not a big deal). He loves helping out students and his test review is basically the test - examples on his slideshows are really helpful too. I will warn you that the exams are tightly timed scantron exams and you need to be ready for them.
I liked Li as a professor, he had clear grading and lectures. All of his notes are on canvas and if you prefer to learn on your own you could only show up on clicker session days (which he always announces in advance). I didn't use the textbook at all, I just did the Aleks hw and practice exams to study for tests and did fine.
Great lectures that covered all the material efficiently by being vague when need be to provoke thought and thorough on harder concepts. Mentions exactly everything that will be tested on so go to lectures to hear what will be on the exams. Practice midterms are extremely helpful and mirror the exam. Problems in the book look like what is on exams.
Absolutely great professor. Funny demo experiments!
Just not good at conveying the information!
He is very intelligent, and he knows what he's doing, but he doesn't seem that interested in teaching well. He changes mid-thought quite often and skips basic chemistry concepts, and almost never works through example problems, which is unfortunate considering this is the first in the gen chem series. I had to learn everything outside of class.
Funny demo experiments, clear materials from powerpoint. If you have taken chemistry before, take a class with him! He is approachable, clear, and dont forget to go to class when there is pollEverywhere(trust me, it's really helpful! most of the questions in the exam are sometimes similar to them)
Li doesn't get enough credit. He genuinely cares that his students do well. He gave 15% of my class 4.0s and his love for demos made every class enjoyable. Yes, you have to study outside of class to do well but it's not so bad. Compared to other Chem teachers, Li gave out the least amount of work and the highest grades. He also bumped up our curve
He's a pretty good professor even though he has a bit of an accent. Would take this class again.
Dr. Li was a super fun teacher with a great sense of humor. He is a researcher but has an excellent ability to communicate the material to his students. He has an accent but if you have a very good grip on English it isn't too bad. Some of his test questions are sneaky hard but we beat his expectations so the class wasn't that hard. I'd take again.
Cared that his students learned the material and gave great demos.
Professor Li is honestly a pretty great professor. So long as you read the textbook along with the lectures, you ought to be pretty well off in the class! Li himself provides fun in lecture demonstrations and is very well versed in what he is teaching. Be careful though, as he does go over concepts pretty fast if that poses a problem for you.
He is a great guy, and it is obvious that he loves to teach chem. The class is very difficult so be prepared to work outside of class. The tests have a lot of trick questions and they are a time crunch. The class is heavy on tests,so to get a good grade you have to do better than everyone else.
The tests are a time crunch but if you practice a fair amount you'll likely be fine. There are times when he goes fast through lecture or doesn't explain an example super well but he still covers content in lecture well. I would definitely still read the textbook though. Fun demos every class!
This course in general covers similar material to high school chem (I didn't take AP), with a couple more math-y lessons. In my opinion, he went over very little of the difficult problems and too much of the easy problems. He does lots of demos and I recommend doing practice problems in order to do well on the test! Btw, his accent really isn't bad
Professor Li was not that bad of a teacher. His tests were multiple choice and fairly straightforward. If you study a bit, you can easily finish them within the given amount of time. Great thing about Li is that if your class exceeds his expectations for a test, he bumps up the curve. For my class, the curve was set from a 2.7 to a 3.0.
Demo's are okay but don't really help most people understand. He goes through lecture fast and ALEKS is a pain.
Very hard to understand. Demos in lectures take away time and do not contribute to learning. Avoid this class if possible. ALEKS is annoying but is the best way to learn material. Grade is determined by 2 tests and a final.
All CHEM 142 classes are set to a curve of 2.6, so of course this was a difficult, competitive class, but Li got us through it. He had many engaging demos, he answered questions, and he even raised our entire class' curve. Honestly, CHEM 142 is going to be hard no matter what, but you can make it through this class if you study hard and show up.
First class I ever took at UW was his chem class. Overall, he's a solid choice- sometimes he rushes through some of the tricky math in lectures, so be ready to review it more later until you fully understand it. Otherwise, he's super approachable and the demos were great.
He did a good job!
Li was a great guy and seemed to really care about if his students did well. He moved the curve up so the median was a 3.0, so we didn't get punished for being a smart class-I really appreciated this. Some people complain about his demos, but I thought they were always fun and interesting, and you could tell he put effort into planning them.
Li is one of the best chem profs at UW. His lectures are fine and he'll crack a joke here and there. Make sure to show up to the lecture before the exams because there will be helpful review sessions. Also, the curve my quarter was set to a 3.0 which was great.
If you do the readings before class and complete the ALEKS hw, it should be an easy class. His midterms were easy the averages were really high, but the final was nothing like the midterms (do the book problems for the final).
He was a great professor and his lectures were very good. Compared to other chem professors he is by far the best. I would recommend this class. He curved my class to 3.0
Quite easy class. Exams are basic mutiple choices. He's really a chinese-style professer.
Professor Li tends to rush things in lecture and when going through example questions, he tends to not fully explain and instead goes through general points. In order to be successful, you need to study A LOT. He's a funny guy but his lectures tend to be very uninteresting and not very helpful, try avoiding this one when taking CHEM 142
He doesn't really seem to care much about his teaching and is obviously here for his research, but his exams are very easy and CHEM 142 is the only 4.0 I've gotten at UW so far haha. If you're choosing between him and Craig I'd choose Craig but otherwise his class was awesome considering how uninterested he appears in teaching it (he's funny too).
He is funny and does interesting demos in class.
This has been a terrible experience, from the past reviews prof Li seems to be a good & caring professor in person. But with the current circumstances of online classes he has been one of the least involved professors Ive had. Chemistry is a subject that should be practiced in repetition to master. With weekly timed quizzes learning is impossible.
I had him for online spring and his weekly timed quizzes are awful. They aren't hard, but it's really hard to solve everything within his time limits (that aren't even nice numbers, they're all like 22, 18, etc minutes). He might be a better prof to have outside of online learning but the way he taught online was not my pace.
I had to take this class online and by far is one of the worst class experiences I had at UW. Pro. Li doesn't teach the materials well and he expects you to know them from high school. I basically had to read the textbook my self and used Khan academy for extra help. HW load is a lot and didn't help to prepare for the exams.
He's an okay guy but out of touch and a bad professor. Had weekly online quizzesdidn't give us enough time. Cares more about speed than quality. Made many rude comments about if you can't solve problems fast you're a bad student. Cares more about the curve than comprehension. Lectures are confusing, you need to teach yourself. AVOID if possible.
I took this class online during COVID. The best advice I can give is to stay on top of the lectures, and do as many practice problems as you can. Very math-oriented questions on exams. Textbook is good for problems!! I got a 4.0 in this class by staying really organized with material and ALEKS objectives. Really nice guy, but very dense lecturer.
Prof. Li taught the first ever STEM class I took at UW. I'm not sure if his teaching is different in person than it is online, but online, his teaching is terrible. He loves pre-recorded demos more than he likes to teach. Speeds through lectures and is very condescending if you do not understand certain "pre-requisites". Textbook is very useful.
Prof. Li taught the first chem class I took at UW. That being said, his quizzes are definitely an adjustment from high school. They are purely mathematical instead of conceptual, you have to be proficient and quick in the subjects before you take the quiz. They are a large part of your grade too. Li is a nice person and wants students to succeed!
Professor Li is the best man on the UW campus. During his weekly tutorials, he goes through example problems for the weekly quizzes that are extremely helpful. He is also the sweetest and funniest professor I've had and really cares about his students. Please take this mans class!
50% of your grade will be based off of weekly quizzes totally 8 points and coming to 42 point for the quarter. If you mess up on this you are screwed on your grade. He is also incredibly strict and will not give exceptions for anything and will constantly tell you that what you learned in highschool is pointless.
Professor Li is really kind and shows that he wants his students to do well. The majority of your grade is based on weekly quizzes that as long as you pay attention in lectures and tutorials and study enough you'll do fine. There's a lot of homework on ALEKS, but its doable. He teaches really well and is helpful when you ask questions.
Prof Li speeds through problems during lectures and spends most of the time showing demos. His clicker questions barely relate to the quiz questions. You have 24-26 minutes to solve 8 questions. Office hours are scheduled by emails, which he does not respond to. I would not recommend this class if you are terrible or even average in chemistry.
My advice is be wary if you don't have experience with chemistry or a solid background. Since this is taught at a higher level, Li tends to skip over details and speeds through information with the assumption that you've already learned it. Not many opportunities for help so you're on your own. His lectures didn't reflect what was on quizzes.
There are quizzes every Friday that make up 50% of your grade. These are about 24 minutes and 8 questions each but all the questions are math heavy. There is also a lot of homework and reading.
Professor Li is an amazing person. That being said this course was a full time job. Lectures, weekly quizzes and hefty amounts of homework on ALEKS. You really must be dedicated and organized if you want to do well in this course.
Personally didn't like his lecturing style-- felt he rambled a lot and was hard to understand the main points. Also found him discouraging. Quiz material barely matched what we learned about in lecture-- clicker Q's, tutorials, ALEKS really helped me. But the way he curves grades makes sense and he tries to help his students as much as possible.
I've heard Li is definitely one of the better professors for this class. I think a lot of the ratings are because the class itself is really difficult, especially for intro freshman. His lectures are clear but the tutorial sessions are what relate back to whats on quizzes. So many kids in this class, I used my TA a lot more than Li.
Li was an OK prof for Chem 142. His lectures were pretty good, but his coverage from topic to topic wasn't very consistent, and I had to go to tutoring to fully understand concepts because his explanations can be confusing. The amount of work each week is a lot, but that's to be expected in a class like this.
8 Question Quizzes every week that are 24-26 minutes long and half of your grade. Does not respond to emails. Lecture style is a bit rambly, expect to do a lot of reading and ALEKS work.
The Prof only seemed to care about the grades and curve rather than helping the actual students. He was always booked and ignored my emails. The quizzes are way harder than you would expect and( they are meant to set you back.) For this class studying the lectures and textbook isn't enough. The weekly quizzes were something I dreaded!
This class was honestly fine, though interaction with the professor is limited given how many people are in the class. Lectures are a bit dull and he does ramble on occasionally, but the information is clear. There are weekly quizzes and a final, all are multiple choice and heavily math based. Overall, workload is pretty heavy, but manageable.
Li's teaching style is fast so if you don't have a basic understanding of chemistry, it can be hard. As long as you finish ALEX, do good on lab reports, and get average scores on 5/7 quizzes, you can get a 3.0 in this class. The 24min. weekly quizzes can be difficult, some weeks are easier than others.
There was a lot of work to do and at least in my case I had to spend a lot of time studying. Class wasn't mandatory but definitely recommend, I would also advise you to do the Aleks homework assignments as soon as you can as well as the reading. Then use the recorded lectures as review. There are also no midterms just weekly quizzes and a final.
Professor Li is disrespectful and lazy. If you email him with a question/concern don't expect more than a blatantly dismissive one liner. He makes it extremely clear he has no time for his students and no interest in their success. He only cares about his demos which are pretty dumb. Only good thing is he grades pretty easy. Do not take this class!
Took this class my first semester at UW and hadn't taken chem since sophomore year in HS. Was really worried but I read the textbook and finished Aleks before quizzes so it was not too bad! Lecturing is a bit boring and demos don't really help so you have to do your own work. His quizzes/exams are math-heavy too but easy once you get the hang of it
Good professor with clear outline of course expectations and material. Since it was online, he was only accessible through his tutorial sections, or by a scheduled meeting. His recorded lectures were easy to understand, but if you read the book and take notes well, you should be fine.
Professor Li, like all of us, was still adjusting to completely virtual class and chemistry may be one of the more difficult online classes to teach so there's my disclaimer. Overall, the class was not too bad although Professor Li's lectures were very fast paced and at times hard to follow. Not very engaging online. Didn't feel very supported.
Professor Li sometimes glosses over topics during prerecorded lectures. Usually, I found it best to read the chapter from the textbook before watching his lectures. In addition, to do well in the class, it is crucial to attend the live tutorial sessions. In these, Professor Li goes over clicker questions that are similar to the quizzes.
Teaches the content as if we already know and learned it recently which wasn't effective for many people. Lots of homework every week and the content is very hard. One of those infamous STEM weed-out classes from UW. Don't expect a stellar grade.
Admittedly, Professor LI has a vey cold persona and would make you feel insignificant at times. However, when it comes to assignments, Professor Li is very fair on the topics that he gives on the tests. His clicker questions are directly related to the multiple choice questions that you get and the aleks is only slightly computational.
Seriously, do NOT procrastinate. I recommend doing the ALEKS work way in advance, because it will help you understand the lectures. Professor Li is nice, but he doesnt explain everything in a clear way. Take advantage of the TA in the quiz and lab sections if you have questions!!
I loved this class and by far was my favorite class of first quarter. Professor Li is so fun and he makes jokes that are funny throughout the course and in his demos. He is very realistic about your chances of passing and I found the workload to be entirely manageable and the content to be fairly simple. I did AP, organic, and enriched chem though.
Professor Li is a fine professor - not spectacular but definitely not terrible either. His average on the exams is always a 70 and he rewards the class if they do better by increasing the median. All are multiple choice, no quizzes, and clear course structure. There is a fair amount of ALEKS hmwk due each week though it is very helpful.
Went through slides rather quickly with minimal explanations expecting us to already know what he's talking about, tons of ALEKS objectives, and only around 15 to 20 questions on tests. Don't take this class if you don't already have a strong background in chemistry or if you value your mental health. Nice person but not a good teacher.
I love professor Li. Obviously the class is hard, but his humor at 8:30 in the morning makes it a lot better. I would take his class in a heartbeat again, easily my best teacher this quarter. ALEKS sucks and labs are graded extremely hard but honestly, if you know basic chemistry youll be more than fine
Professor Li is not the most amazing teacher, but he is a fair professor when it comes to such a difficult class. The exams are worth a lot, but as long as you do lots of practice problems you will be fine. Basically, you just have to work really hard in chem 142 to get a good grade. Don't procrastinate ALEKS because it can boost your grade!
He was a fair grader. I really appreciated how his practice midterms were almost identical to the ones one the actual midterm.
He was a pretty decent lecturer but attending lectures were not crucial to understanding concepts (at least for me). I did most of my learning from ALEKS, textbook readings, and the practice worksheets. The practice midterms/final were very similar to the actual tests so make sure to do them!
Prof Li is a good guy but it doesn't seem like he wants to be a teacher at all. He doesn't hold office hours, doesn't take homework questions after class and doesn't make his classes engaging. His exam questions are very conceptual and tries to trick you and are not very straightforward. He is a fair grader but isn't a good teacher.
Li was overall a great professor. He kept lectures fairly interesting, although it did get a little bit repetitive with slideshows. Luckily, this also meant that the course content was easily accessible from Canvas if you missed lecture. His study guides were very representative of the tests and he was generally clear about what would be on tests.
very straightforward and good lecturer, tho he fairly often skipped stuff he claims students should know from high school chem. the tests are hard bc u have very little time for each question, but there's almost no surprises on exams. Li is a pretty cool dude and makes jokes at times, would definitely recommend for 142!!
The lectures were eh but the demonstrations were fun to watch. If you can't make lectures there are some online so it's not a big deal. Make sure to review the practice tests and the clicker questions like a thousand times before midterms/finals and you'll do great. Overall wasn't too difficult and the professor gives you room to do well.
Li was a solid choice for Chem 142. I liked that his exams were very similar and even some questions were identical to the practice exams. Be sure to nail down every question of the practice exam and understand the clicker sessions and the exams will be pretty easy to do well on. Do not forget to do well on ALEKS and labs. It will help your grade.
An okay instructor. Often glosses over certain topics, so ensure you have a solid background in HS chem. Exams are fair; they only cover content he covers in lect. Clicker questions and practice exams are a good representation of the exams, redo them until you feel confident. Lab and ALEKS make a difference for your learning and grade, so do them!
Li is a skilled lecturer, tests are reasonable if you go to class and do the practice tests, and there is a lot of ALEKS homework but that's unavoidable. The class isn't easy but it's not supposed to be. There are lots of resources provided, so make sure you find the ones that work for you and use them.
Miss him if possible! Li isn't available outside of class for help and can be extremely passive aggressive in emails. He glosses over topics and expects you to just "know them". His exam questions are not very straight forward and purposely trick you . At one point about half the people started skipping class because his lectures were no help.
Xiaosong Li is one UW professor who is truly a matter of taste. I personally enjoyed his style. It helps that he is very upfront about your grade projection after each exam. The exams are hard if you do not study. Choosing to take the exam without doing the practice exam is a suicide mission. Do the ALEKS, be engaged, and you will get a 4.0. Enjoy.
Professor Li is a solid professor to go with. The way his course was laid out meant that tests were a large part of your grade, so make sure to do solid/average on those. His lectures are easy to understand and he is approachable for questions. If you have the choice to go with a Professor like Keller or Craig, I would recommend checking them out.
Prof. Li is not super loving or sweet, but he was pretty funny and if you actually put in work, the tests arent terrible, especially with the curves. Hes also pretty clear during lecture, and if you dont understand something the textbook can help.
For me personally, I didn't really pay too much attention during lecture. I just took notes from ALEKS (the homework website) and I knew what was going on during lecture and on tests. Didn't read anything from the book.
Li's class was pretty straightforward: go to lecture, take notes, do aleks, repeat. His lectures are not super engaging in my opinion and you'll get about 20 aleks modules per week to do on average. There is also only 2 midterms in terms of exams so good luck if you're not a good test taker.
prof li was a super entertaining lecturer, but im ngl the class is test heavy and if you dont show up to lecture/read the textbook the class will be hard. however, if you show up to lecture you'll be completely fine
If you have the chance to take a class with professor Li, DO IT! He is a great lecturer you have to come to class, do the ALEKS ( do not procrastinate), and do practice exams to do well in the class but its very feasible. I personally had a great TA as well which I know is a hit or miss but I would definitely recommend taking advantage of the chem
Prof Li is a funny guy and very straightforward on what are on his tests. I did well in this class because I practiced the exact points he mentioned would be on the tests. Demos are cool and he's a nice professors. Can't access him much because there are so many students so rely on your TAs for help.
great professor to take if you are planning to take chem 142. Test are somewhat easy if you can do practice exam and PoV question. I never read the textbook but if you want a 4.0 i would recommend you to read it. Overall one of the best prof. from chem department
Professor Li is a solid chemistry professor. His lectures draw directly from the textbook and his multiple-choice exams do a fair job at reflecting what is taught in class. The online homework program, ALEKS, may be a bit much at times but manageable with time management. Lastly, Professor Li does skim over content he deems "AP Chemistry" content.
A decent professor. He occasionally glosses over topics but those topics are also usually not covered on the exams. The class does have a lot of homework, and ALEKS will leave you traumatized by the end of the quarter - its an extremely punishing HW system time-wise (not grade-wise) but does provide an infinite source of practice
Take this class with Professor Li! He's a real gem and the lecture demos are super fun! Do the work, put in the effort, and you'll be fine! His lectures and practice material are really helpful for the midterms and final. There is a lot of ALEKS but it's honestly helpful for practice. Use the textbook for help!
Mr Li is a pretty good choice. He's funny and seems to care that you pass. I barely read the textbook and took minimal notes, but I still managed to get a B. Just study and practice the practice exams he posts a lot and do the worksheets and you should be fine. Also do the aleks work and lab stuff. That's easy points.
This class is definitely a weed out but Li's humor in class makes it worth it. The labs are probably the hardest part- they're graded pretty harshly. I would recommend going to the study center for your labs and getting help from the TAs. He provides practice midterms which is nice. The hw is ALEKS which SUCKS but it's easy points.
Li was a good chemistry lecturer! He was engaging and going to lecture actually helped my understanding, but unfortunately his pace for lecture was slightly behind the homework at so some of the things he had to say you already had learned on your own. I would absolutely take Li again. His grading was fair and expectations were clear.
Professor Li is a great guy; he has a good sense of humor and is very kind. However, I rarely found his lectures helpful in any way. ALEKS felt like my teacher - and there was a lot of ALEKS. The nice thing about his class is that the tests are multiple choice. I enjoyed his in-class demos as well.
I found his class structure and grade distribution to be fair. His exams are all multiple choice and he gives you a detailed info sheet for the exam and allows you to bring your own. There is a lot of ALEKS each week but it was a good supplement to his lectures and buffer for my grade.
Taught class like it was a review rather than an introduction.
This class tackles some of the hardest topics during the first weeks before that first midterm so be prepared. After that first midterm, the class gets easier as it is mostly about topics that are easier. Read your textbooks before every lecture as Professor Li only reviews it in class. Do ALEKS in advance, it is an easy grade to earn.
In week 3 he told me "If you don't understand my content I recommend dropping my class." I did. He's terrible and this was my only withdrawal ever. Take chem with anyone else.
Took this class online and lectures were awful. Could not read professors notes, professor did not provide satisfactory alternate learning methods. Excelled in all other science courses at UW and in IB and this one I nearly failed. DO NOT take this course.
No guidance for research and he pick up favorite students and gives them support especially Chinese. He can destroy your future. So passive, judgmental, not easy to work with.
Professor Li's CHEM142 class has a fair grading structure, with multiple-choice exams and a helpful ALEKS homework system. While lectures can be hit-or-miss, Unstuck AI proved a valuable study tool to supplement the course material.
