She was Amazing!!!! She is so helpful, if you have a question she is more than willing to answer all question. You should go to class everyday as she will always have a new lesson plan. Her exams are from her notes so read her notes. She puts up the slides on blackboard, so you can go over it on your own time. If you study hard she will give you A.
An amazing example of what a math teacher should be. Quick to respond to emails if you need help. You get what you give in her class. Speaks with a slight accent but if you can get through it, you will do well. Lenient grader on tests if you show you want to improve. Definitely the teacher you want for calculus.
She is amazingggggg probably one of the best professors in CITY COLLEGE . Please try to take her class and if you do let her know you and develop a close relationship with her. I wish all my professors were like her. I love her lol
One of my favorite professors in CCNY. She always went out of her way to make sure everyone understands the material and gives plenty chances to get a good grade! Make sure you stay on top of the material and you will do great!
Very good professor! You will miss out if you dont take her. I wished she teaches all maty classes
She is the best professor in calculus. All my other friends are struggling with their professor but she is absolutely the best. Be prepared, you must be ready to learn and attend class because you will be left behind in the dust.
She was always there to help you if you needed it. She gave priority to the students that took AP Calc in High School. She moved really fast but if you do the homework and stay on top of your work then you should do fine.
Best math teacher i've ever had in my life seriously
She is very funny. Never be late, always participate in class and do well on exams will get you an easy A. If you know how to read lecture notes, you will do fine.
She goes too fast. Talks alot, like not on the subject of calc. She doesnt teach well. Worst mistake in choosing her. Cares more about students who took ap courses.
Professor Yang is an extremely nice and understanding professor. She engages her students and has fun with the lesson. I never took calculus before but I am doing well in her class. She is always very patient. Her exams sometimes may be challenging but she prepares you well. She is one of the best professors in CCNY.
She is so friendly and always there for you if you need her help. Have a problem that you can't solve, just send her an email. She'll reply in an hour. Extra credits are there which are really useful. Be in the class everyday and read her powerpoints (everything is there). You'll definitely pass. Take her you won't regret.
She is the best professor I have ever had in my entire life. She prepares you well for the department final by the various problems she provides from past department exams, lecture notes. She pays attention to every student in the class and inspires everybody to do well. She is available before and after class if you need help.
IN the class now just love this lady.
I will say that she is the best Calculus Professor among all other Professors at CCNY. If you slack off in the course you will definitely fail in the end so you must study EVERYDAY. Go to every class, read the slides, do the HW. She will not pass you just because she is nice. You have to earn the grade. She is lenient grader as compared to others.
She was an amazing professor who was very helpful in lectures and for office hours. Her test really help you for the final. Her slides are really helpful and if you review them and previous test thoroughly it's an easy A. Best calculus professor. Take her if you can.
Ms. Yang is a phenomenal professor, with a great sense of humor. She has a very clear & concise structure for teaching and is helpful in and out of the classroom. If you put in the effort and study, her exams are extremely fair and manageable. Overall, fabulous class with a fabulous woman! Remember you only get out what you put in. Take Her!
Professor Yang is great, I did well on the class exams but received a 52 on the final and she 's not going to fail me. She cares about the students a lot. Very approachable and easy to talk to. Definitely recommend her for 205!
Although she goes really fast in lecture. Overall, she is a great professor who cares about all her students. She prepares you very well for the department final. This is not a easy class, so you have to work for your grade.
If you are looking for a great professor that is caring and understands you for what your abilities are and for what u are willing to do to deserve a great grade. I suggest u take her. Aside her making jokes to brighten your day,she expects the best of you everyday. She strongly recognizes whatever effort u put into the class. Her class is a family
One of the best professors I have taken at this college. She cares about each of her students and she wants everyone to participate. Yang keeps tabs on each of her students progress and makes sure you know where your grade stands. Yang gives a decent amount of work. Her exams can be difficult, but it is just the subject.
One of the best professor at ccny. She cares a lot about her students and is always available after class or during the officer hours. She make sures that every students know the contents. She loves interacting with student and amazingly she quickly learns everyone's names. Definitely recommend this professor.
Professor Yang is one of the most caring professor there is! She really cares about her student's grades and really want them to do well. She dedicates her time after class for tutoring session for student who are doing poorly.
Yang is one of the most caring professors you'll meet. She really wants each and every student to do well. Take lots of notes and ask questions. Also super funny and makes class quite enjoyable. Take advantage of her office time as she makes herself available each week to give students extra help.
She's awesome!! You can tell she really cares about her students because she stays after class to tutor them. Her tests are fair, if you studied the material, you will get 90+. Other than that, you should take her class.
Professor Yang is the best professor I've ever had at City College. I truly love her. I failed once until I met her and passed. You just need to pay attention and she is always there to help you. She is amazing!!!
Professor Yang is one of the very best professors at City College. She cares for all of her students and doesn't wish for anyone to slack off. She curves the final grade for the overall class, drop the lowest test score and a few quizzes. Don't be afraid to ask questions because she loves to help everyone.
She is a good person but not a good lecturer. Her explanations are so unclear. She just simply expects the students to understand what she says. Always talked about her daughter who is in high school taking AP Calculus. Would even bring her hw for us to do in class. She is lenient but that doesn't help you pass the class. Wouldn't recommend her.
Prof Yang is my favorite professor so far. The way she explains the subject is better than most professors. She makes the class interesting and teaches the concepts more thoroughly. She always brought us some AP Calculus problems for deeper discussion. My friend recommended Prof Yang to me and I will recommend her to anyone I know.
In class now. Lovely lady, caring and helpful. Great Professor. Finally learned something after two times repeat.
She is the best. I love her so much because she loves what she teaches, and if you show concern about your math studies, you show that you care about what you learn in class, she will also care for you. She is so funny and prepare to always hear your name called in class if you are really doing well in class, always come late, etc. Take her!!!
She is a great professor. Give homework and quizzes online that she takes the best grades, same for in class exams. Drop the lowest test grade. Lecture notes posted online. Very helpful lectures, clear and easy to understand.
Prof Yang cares deeply about your comprehension of the material. There are a few quizzes and four tests(she drops your lowest). Her exams prepare you for the final. She encourages questions, and offers extra help throughout the semester. She is very kind, but also very clear of her expectations. She notices effort, and will help you grow in math.
very caring. make sure to study before exams because she only counts the test grades. quizzes and homework don't matter at all. she drops the lowest test score, but keep it for last because lessons get harder.
Professor Yang is an extraordinary professor. She is very caring and puts in a lot of effort to make sure you really understand the material. She is always so prepared and organized and her lectures prepare us well for exams. She explains concepts in a very clear manner. Take her!
It's super easy to just pass her class no matter how you do in class. However, she fails to clarify her explanations and sometimes she can be rude as well like calling out your name if you do bad on her exams or show up late.
Never had a caring professor like her. She explains things very well. Never use cell phone, never miss class. Follow her guidance to succeed. I took her in math195 in Spring and math205 in summer. Great professor!
The most incredible faculty you can think or hope for. Caring and demanding but also inspirational in quest to see your success. Always available to help you before and after class.
This professor really cares about you and your career. She makes the class easier than it is. She makes jokes but, she is very serious about the assignments and exams. If you struggle in math, take her.
She said "If you don't know this problem then you might as well drop the class because you won't pass the final". Encourage students to make fun of other students who are struggling in the class. Assumes that everyone understands the problem and doesn't throughouly explain it. She tends to skip the small steps but those small steps are crucial
A professor second to none. I have never met a strong, demanding professor who also cares and very funny. I wish she will teach 195 because I want to succeed. Seeing is believing. Amazing step by step lectures.
Professor Yang is amazing Professor. She offers a lot of help. Do the web-assign and always study. She can be very blunt but its all out of kindness. She is nice and very respected. Always ask questions and go to office hours (she offers a lot of her time). Overall, one of the best professors in Mathematics at City College.
I honestly underestimated her so much. In the end, she taught us more than we needed to learn and taught step by step and in the simplest way. Def would take her again and honestly miss having her as my professor.
A great professor but she might seem a bit harsh since her favorite line is "if you don't know this then drop the class". However, she prepares you more than enough for the final and even teaches pre-calc material.
Yang moves very quickly through her problem explainations and will move fast even when someone asks her to explain it again. She does notice when the class AS A WHOLE is falling behind though. If you don't study or aren't naturally inclined at math it's a waste. Allows you to attend her other class to retain info twice. Lots of office hour chances.
Professor Yang is one of those professors that come once in a lifetime. She will turn unenthusiastic students into passionate hard working students with the way she controls a classroom. She works efficiently and synthesizes everything incredibly well. The knowledge you retain with her will last you a lifetime.
Professor Yang is super funny, I hate math but her blunt humor was great to keep me paying attention at 9:30. She also reads her rate my professors to the class and complains when they're bad which i found hilarious. She is super sweet too and will cut you breaks if you're honest and do your work, and genuinely wants you to succeed. Take her!!
Professor Yang is an amazing professor, period. She cares and will do everything in her power to make you understand if you ask. She knows when you know how to solve a question, she pushes you to remember and pushes you to do your best. She is lenient to come degree but always follows the rules she's given. She is amazing, take her if you can.
She makes herself available, shell extend deadlines if she can to accommodate her students and the blackboard quizzes u take are easier than the web assign she uses them to replace the grade for the web assign quizzes u do bad on. If u want a good grade show up to class and do the the work and youll be fine. If you have trouble reach out
I had this class Jan 2021, My first impression was that I was gonna fail because I struggled to understand the material at first, however miss yang had us do similar problems multiple times and for the final exam I passed with 100. She is an awesome professor I wish she was my math teacher now. She is a great professor. Thank You Miss Yang!!
So, to just lay it down nice and easy. Do not take her classes at all, I do not care if you are advanced or not, most of her grades are based on three quizzes while her homework, while mandatory, is worth nothing. She never tried making a case in the student's favor and often lashes out of anger and mocks students. Dub for sure and a major red fla
She is the worst prof i have taken so far she was rude to the class reminding us we made her depressed every time we had class and when someone had a question she would get mad when they didnt get it but then would get mad when we didnt ask questions and also i bought webassign for the hw to find out half way hw didnt factor into our grades
She gives plenty of resources to pass her class such as webassign, recorded sessions and her lecture notes, but is incredibly condescending and discouraging. She goes out of her way to tell people to drop her class during exams and other things. Class size went from about 36 to 9 people showing up. Grading policy was unclear until November.
If you take this professor for your math class good luck. She was kind of hard to understand, she downgraded us when we did not know something and personally, she was unapproachable the whole semester because of her rudeness. I had to teach myself a lot. She did try being nicer after she realized that a lot of students were dropping her class tho.
Absolutely horrible teacher. She called us stupid multiple times and said we were her worst class she ever taught. She made us by a textbook only to end up saying homework doesnt count. Save yourself the headache and pick a different teacher.
She is a nice professor. I love the way she teach. She takes her time when teaching. I told her yesterday I will take her next semester. If you want to pass just do what she asked for. Her tests were fair.
all the prof. in the math dept at ccny are bad, even though she was so mean during the class, she was still a good teacher but she goes very fast. the math dept changed the grading criteria so all exams were like 30%,40%, we had to buy webassign just for it to not even count. she expects us to know all the material but if you rewatch her lectures
She is a good professor. Her lectures were very clear. Her handwritings were very neat. She went over many methods in class. Material is heavy. Exams aren't that hard if you study. I wish she could be more encouraging.
If you skip classes and don't pay attention and fail tests be ready to fail. BUT if you pay attention and understand the course materials you will get easy 100s. The class itself is easy if you actually pay attention. This semester the grading policy was kind of ehh since they only counted test so hopefully next semester the homework gets counted.
Professor yang is amazing. She is a true gem. Ive always had trouble with Math. Professor Yang was the only reason I was able to finally understand math and do better. I will take her again next semester.
Great teacher, Yang gives numerous examples of the questions that will be on the tests during class time. However, you will have to put in the work in your own free time in order to make the material stick. Yang can be a bit mean towards the students at times but I can see that there's good intention behind it.
She wants you guys to pass and know the information and often gets frustrated but because she wants in the end everyone to be able to get enough help and prep. Watch her lectures if available and participate after that you should be good
She is the best math instructor I've ever had; her lesson is simple to understand, and she explains everything thoroughly. I like how she pushes students to comprehend and remember things, and if I ever struggle in her class, she motivates me to go home and study it until I grasp the concept. :)
Amazing professor. She really cares about your success while making class fun and interesting. Very knowledgeable. I learned so so much from this class. Thank you Professor Yang.
Horrible class and tough grader. She is rude to students and belittles them. She was mean to us when we asked questions and she made fun of us. She is very discouraging and will make you feel dumb. She does not care about her students and your GPA will suffer. She rushes through the material and does not explain it. I would avoid this class!
Overall, the professor was pretty straight forward with the material. She is very content heavy, and expects you to practice on webassign and be familiar with the topics once coming into class, if you study what you learned that day and attend all lectures you will for sure pass the class.
I was in her 195 summer class. She is great. Take her you never gonna regret.
Professor Yang is the most compassionate math professor in the college, full stop. She is also brutally honest, but math in this school is a jungle. She tells the truth and trust me, you need to hear it. Put in the work, watch YouTube videos, pay attention in class, and take good notes. Her lectures make perfect sense and she's a lenient grader.
She was an amazing professor and one that really got to my heart. She tried to make the classes as engaging as possible. She always gives partial credit in the wrong answers of the 2 midterms. Very reachable out of class and ready to help. Overall, she was one of the professors I will remember for life because of how fun she made a math class be.
Prof. Yang was very caring and wanted everyone to pass, she gave lot of partial credit of the midterms and if you got a 80+ on the homework you got plus five points on your overall grade.
The avg in this class: consistently failing. Exam avgs 54% and 47%. Confusing lectures, hard to pay attn imo. If I showed up made no diff and had to visit the math center constantly + still withdrew. She made side comments abt students not in the class. One benefit: hw is just for practice, not graded. Did the hw @ the math center w/ no deadlines.
Straight to the point, I promise you if math isn't your best subject you will pass with her as your teacher. She's very clear and direct. I took her last semester. I wish I could take her as my calculus teacher.
Ms. Yang is the BEST PROFESSOR!!! I enjoyed learning calculus with her, you'll find the math concepts are easy to understand, she always gives us partial credit as she cares about her students. There's no way for you fail but prepare you get high grades, as she does final reviewing from the very beginning. Take her class, I highly recommended.
Barely paid attention to class and never did hw. Just remember the tip/trick and shortcuts she teaches. For example, Limits only 3 way of solving it. Derivative, 3 or 4 rules you have remember and as for integral she notice that CCNY has 5 different combinations/patterns of problems she just gives shortcut/formats just remember those and you pass.
Professor Xiaoyan Yang is easily the best math teacher I will study under in my life, and this is genuine and not meant to be baseless praise. She is incredibly dedicated to her students and even set aside her free time to help tutor during summer classes. Great sense of humor, very talented at explaining math, could not recommend her enough
She is the best maths professor in CCNY in my opinion. Taking her class will make your fear of maths go away. She explains everything very simply. Reviews all the topics a lot of times that you are bound to understand every single topic even if you do not put that much effort. I can stress enough on this but HIGHLY recommend her class.
Xiaoyan materials are alot, you have to review them a lot, or else she will ridicule you in front of everyone. Or better yet, find another professor because my review is honest honest.
Prof Yang is underrated, she does an amazing job explaining the cou
I loved having Prof. Yang as my instructor. I enjoyed her lectures; she would clearly explain step by step for each problem. She reviewed it multiple times to ensure her students understood the coursework. On top of that, she would do online tutoring which shows a lot about an instructor. Loved taking her class and hope to have her again.
If you want a lecture overly baby-fed you won't enjoy her lectures. She goes over topics multiple times which makes it hard to forget how to do them. She helps me understand the coursework and more. She helped me better understand Algebra and prepared me for the next level in my college journey. Thanks, Prof Yang I would love to have her again. :)
Xiaoyan Yang's Asian accent is so heavy that it can sometimes be hard to understand her when she's talking about trigonometry terms. She provides you with plenty of resources but if you fail to grasp the material she PUBLICLY and BLATANTLY humiliates and disrespects you. She has favoritism amongst her "smartest" students and tends to give side-eye.
Heavy accent, unclear schedule (she says quizzes only on Mondays, then goes on to give quizzes on both lecture days), public bantering with students, slight attitude, weekly homework on coursesite "WebAssign", Don't show up late or she might go on a rant about showing up early, 20+ years in her field and expects students to be on her skill-level.
You know what, I love her slight British accent! She is a great professor. So many chances to get an A. Love her! Take her! You won't regret it.
She is a great professor and she really cares about her students. She does give quizzes every week but she it is content that she reviewed in class and she gives practice problems and additional resources to prepare as well. She did a good job in preparing us for the final exam because I thought that the final exam was easier than I thought.
She is a great professor. She cares for the students and wants everyone to pass the class. Pay attention in class and study at home to get a good grade. She is very nice, and I wish I could take her for all my math courses at ccny.
Ms. Yang is a great professor. She goes above and beyond to teach math. She shows us shortcuts and quick ways to make math easier. Warning that she gives out quizzes every week. She's also a tough one so don't try to make excuses for not doing the work and slacking off, or she will roast you in front of everyone
Had her for the winter session, and she made the class super easy to understand. She would introduce a topic, and go over many examples of the topic, pulling questions out of our webassign. I believe it is very hard to FAIL her class, and you just need to do the work. She was also there 30 minutes before and went over questions you didnt understand
Took her in winter, she's amazing definitely take her
She super passionate about her job and helping her students out, providing tutoring when she can. She's very strict with attendance because she wants her students to pass the class so show up in class, participate, and you'll pass!
Attendance matters! She is passionate and expects students to try their best. She is available to discuss anything. Make sure you communicate with her
Ms. Yang is seriously amazing! Super helpful and provides tutoring almost every weekend. I wish I could have her as my math professor forever!
Professor Yang will help you as long as you put in the effort. She's an amazing professor and genuinely wants you to succeed.
She is an ok professor if you have a bit of prior knowledge of the topic she is teaching. She won't go into extreme depth, but it is enough to pass the exam. You do have to practice outside of class. Overall, she is an average math teacher, and if you just study at home for the exams you'll be fine for Math 190.
not a great professor, when asking questions she will give you attuide and belittle you if you don't understand or have to go over the problem. she has a thick accent as well
She's an okay professor, but she makes everything seem difficult, when lecturing ahead goes too quickly, and if you ask a question of how she gets an answer, she will immediately get mad. Her accent is understandable but when talking, sometimes is a little bit hard to understand her.
She awful, skips steps and will give an attitude when you ask a question. She need to relearn this material herself because idk what she was teaching us some was understandable but she just expects you to understand the first time she teaches you. Please look for another professor IM WARNING YOU. (Coming from a student that understands math easily)
Professor Yang is an amazing professor! She does review lessons before exams where she goes over topics and will explain things again if you still need help. She will also show shortcuts to solve problems. Participation is also very important, as she wants students to succeed. I really enjoyed her class and would def take her again.
This class is very easy to pass with professor Yang. You just need to always attend and pay attention in class to avoid falling behind. But the prof is very helpful and will even give many methods to resolve equations, you choose the one more friendly to you. Amazing class!
Many students might feel intimidated by her at first, but she genuinely wants you to succeed. She's very clear in her explanations and often shows multiple ways to solve the same problem, which really helps students who think differently or struggle with traditional methods.
She's nice and cares about helping, as long as you're there physically and mentally the class is easy.
hard to understand but she's kind, genuinely cares about her students and her grading is fair
