She is an easy teacher, just make sure you attend class and take notes because you get a quiz either thurs or friday. The quizzes help your grade a lot and the test are right from the quizzes.
Can be rude
she doesn't teach...she doesn't help you...the students taught the class the second half of the semester
Just do your work and you'll be fine.
VERY mean and moody. Not helpful at all.
She is not easy, but she isn't hard. Hard to understand, but if you show up to class she gives a bonus problem every day that goes towards the easy quizes. Tests are only 9 questions for about 11 or 12 points a piece.
Do not take REAL with her. Tests are impossible.
was not helpful, responded to questions by saying "that's not my job...look at the book"
She is extremely moody & doesn't answer questions. There were only 8 people in my class for an entire semester, and she couldn't manage to learn my name! She hates having students come to her office, yet won't answer questions in class.

_never_ sign up for this teacher a VERY mean moody **** who refused to help me when I came to her, who instead insulted me. Today she made me cry... refuses to help those who are having trouble and recomends tutoring to half the class. Tests are u
Very unclear, spends 1/2 hour answering simple question. Ineffective lectures.
Great professor, Just do the homework and show participation and you will be fine.
First test came during week 11...the second half the semester is taught by student presentations. Refuses to learn names and is very chilly toward students who ask questions.
Really nice and will try her best to explain how to do a problem in more than one way. So its not her way or the highway...very nice!
Teaches great, and has easy tests
Can be mean and very unclear. Terrible teacher. Likes to make snippy comments at students who she doesn't like. I withdrawled because I couldn't stand her. I seriously recommend not taking her for anything. Gives unfair tests.
Very easy teacher, teaches great. And has very easy tests, I haven't had to do any of the HW and have gotten 90 or above on every test.
Very good professor, explains things well - even if you don't understand them she'll find another way to explain it. Definitely recommend her for Calc 1. I barely passed Precalculus but still got an A in Calc 1.
This was the best calc class I have ever had! Take her over the summer if you can, she's great. Tests are easy and she really takes her time to get to know the students.
I loved the entire math dept. at MU until I had Catepillan. She is not helpful at all and refuses to get to know her students by name. What's worse - she'll refer you to classmates to get extra help. Her class was my worst educational exprience.

Took her over the summer for Calc 3. She's a great prof. Explains very well, and makes things easy to understand. Take her!
She was a great prof! If you did not understand problem, she would keep explaining it until you got it & would do random examples for you that you selected for her! Very very easy and very very helpful!
Can't teach, and isn't up to date with technology. Yells at students who are late even if they're coming from roddy. She made a student cry in class one day (honest). Was very moody some days and refused to answer questions by students. Worst math teacher I've ever had.
She is great for this course. Just do most of the homework, and make sure you get the right answers on the bonus problems and oyu will be fine.
moody, unpredictable, not helpful- doesn't give a damn if you pass or fail. Narcissistic.
She is the owrst professor that I have had at Millersville thus far. She is a horrible teacher and she is extremely unhelpful. I am a straight A student and I got a B- in Calc III. Do not tak eher if you care about your grade. She is also a very mean person, with no compassion or understanding a
Gets problems wrong all the time, and tests are usually pretty hard. Makes you feel stupid in class
Pretty much one of the worst professors I have ever had at MU. She doesn't answer questions and she doesn't teach well at all. Do not take her if you care about your grades.
Easiest professor i ever had. Her tests are extremely easy and come right from homework problems. She goes over most of the homework problems and answers any questions, and she is not at all a bitter person like these past posts try to make her out to be. Take her classes, VERY easy A
BORING!
Easy tests, explains things thoroughly & is very fair.

Dr. Catepillan is a great professor. She explains things well. She is available to help when needed.
Very easy. Quizzes come straight from homework and tests come from quizzes. You need to go though. Very boring though and hard to understand. Very easy though.
Wow, people can be harsh. Very nice lady. Very helpful when you need it.
I don't like the way she grades, but overall she's okay. A little hard to get through to her sometimes.
Despite what many say, I think she's a cool professor. She is funny at times and really knows what she's doing. Sometimes it is hard to understand things, but that isn't her, it's the subject. I do think her grading is a little weird, but other than that, I'd recommend taking a class with her!
Great professor-she knows her material. I took her over the summer & had two take-home tests, but they were HARD & took lots of time. In-class tests are similar to the homework and straightforward. In-class exercises for homework grade. She's big on students working in partners. Not bad for a summer calc 3 class.
She's an idiot, but this class is an easy math credit for dumb liberal arts majors. Date every handout and busy work assignment and put it in your notebook, because she'll ask for random stuff like that at the final.
Not bad, but doesn't really seem to get through to students and if no one says they are confused, she moves right along. You may have to teach yourself some stuff. If you need help, go to the tutoring center, not her.
She's a good teacher, and she's fairly easy to understand, but she has a strange grading system, and she's not very helpful during office hours.
Hard to understand, moves fast, doesn't explain things well
I got an A- in this class, but a lot of that i think was b/c i knew how to suck up haha. Get on her good side and u should be fine. Don't ask a lot of questions and go with the flow. As far as niceness I think she is kinda mean to students and i wouldn't advise taking her for a hard level math course. Not a lot of work, one big assignment but the it
Dr. X is an awesome teacher. English is not her native language so she sometimes doesn't understand the questions you ask. Her assignments are interesting and easy. Homework is rare and easy. Pay attention, go to class. We had a midterm and a final and both were open note. Keep all handouts for theses.
Personally i wouldn't suggest taking her... she makes things really easy, her tests aren't that hard, BUT if you mess up a one little thing she takes off too many points... lost 5 points for a negative sign... lost 8 points because i was off by one number... other than that she's very very nice teacher
boringgggggggggg... but easyyyy. did pointless stuff.
worst prof in MU math dept. don't take her unless you want to torture yourself. her stupidity is only exceeded by her dearth of interest in the students of MU..
She discovered her talent for math in high school and looks for that same understanding and twinkle in her students? eyes here at Millersville...twinkle twinkle little star, how I wonder...
she is a very easy teacher, but does not give out help willingly and is not clear on topics you don't understand. interesting class, but you will never need to use the information give EVER AGAIN IN YOUR LIFE! she takes offense when you have negative comments about her calss
she was one of the worse math professors i have ever had. does not believe in partial credit. tests are hard, but do-able. homework not collected or graded. gives extra credit problems, but only get 1 point for them if right and only counts for the quizzes. would never take her again.
In contrast to the other recent comments, my experience was good. AS long as you do the homework, class is very manageable.
Dr. Catepillan is a good professor. She knows her material and is extremely passionate about teaching it. She presents mathematics of other cultures in such a way that they do not come across as math. For anyone who is a non-math major, I would suggest this class for a math requirement. It's not too hard and it's extremely interesting and fun. A+!
She's an ok teacher. There is no partial credit, she grades until you do something wrong then the rest of the problem is wrong. She is also hard to understand sometimes.
I think she is alot better than how she is rated on here. She fully explains examples and gives bonus points weekly. She does give some partial credit, as long you do not screw up early in the problem. I can't think of many negatives. Overall solid professor.
One of my favorite professors at Millersville. She wants you to get an A and as long as you do the work and study for the tests/mini quizzes you'll get an A. She works through the problems with you and is willing to answer all questions.
I like her. I don't think she's that easy though. I think the reality is that she believes that everyone understands math on the same level (her level) and that just isn't true. I liked the class but I didn't like that it was really the students teaching the class. She was very willing to help but again expected you understand even tho u might not
She's so nice and pretty easy. Everyone says calc 2 sucks but I was easy with her. There's no shocks on your tests if you do the hw.
I don't get her poor reviews. She runs a laid back class, covers the material in a way that makes it easy to understand, and hands out bonus points like candy. Yes, she expects you to show up and do the work. Not that big of an expectation for a college course.
yeah, i don't really get the low ratings either. yeah, calc 2 is really, really hard but i think dr. x was extremely helpful. if she could tell that one of her students wasn't quite understanding something, she would take the effort to another way. overall, it's a really tough subject, but she provided an excellent learning enviro
Dr. X gave a lot of hw.. but she gave many opportunities to succeed. She gave many extra credit chances- which is rare!!! She was more then willing to help no matter how many times a week I showed up!
Had her for multiple classes. In all honesty I was the exception to the rule and literally took Calculus 1...five times. She was by far the best calculus professor I had and highly recommend her to anyone. As she says, if you do the homework and show up to class you will get an A. Do not let any of these negative reviews fool you.
Difficult class but taught well. If you show up and do your homework you will receive a good grade. Your grade is dependent on your effort, the class is not difficult.
Took Math in Non European Cultures and the class itself was very interesting, but I feel like as a professor she was not very clear or helpful. Pick a good partner for your projects, all you really do is show up to class 3 times, work on 2 projects, and then do homework and discussion posts related to them. She is also a harsh grader.
She is an ALRIGHT professor. You can get a good grade in Calc 2 or 3 if you actually understand the material & methods thoroughly. The problem is her teaching style, she does not explain nor go over the entire problem. Take her if you can basically teach yourself. Seriously...
Dr. Catepillán is a brilliant professor! She is extremely knowledgeable about the material and passionate about teaching ethnomathematics to her students. This is seriously the best math course that I've taken at the college level!
The topics are really interesting! The class revolves around researching the historical origins and usage of mathematics by various cultures. Speaking as an anthropology major, I highly recommend Dr. Catepillán’s Math in Non-European Cultures!
easy class and material but unnecessarily stressful. Hope you like discussion posts. She also can be rude sometimes and her assignments were vague. What can I say? I'm only taking this class for G2 credit, so I won't have to deal with her again after this.
This is the first time Dr. X is teaching History of Math and I have to say, she isn't too bad. There are no tests, just homework which go towards the final so do them correctly and a 20 minute presentation, which she does help you on IF you go to her office hours. That's really the only time she is willing to help you on anything
Amazing professor. She makes it clear that you have to attend class and do the homework to do well and she's right. Tests are no surprises if you do the homework she assigns! Always willing to answer questions and encourages students to go to her office when they have questions. Super helpful. Don't be late to class though!
Tough grader is an understatement for Dr. X. If you don't do the problem exactly the way that she wants it done, you will get a 510 even if you get the right answer. In her office hours she kind of passes you off and tells you to look to your classmates instead of talking to her. Would not take again
If you show up, do the homework, and study you can definitely get an A in her class. A quiz or test every Friday, but she'll drop your lowest quiz score. Most of the time you can easily get a 9 or 10 on quizzes. Tons of extra credit, she even gave us extra credit for dressing up on Halloween. Taking her again for Calc III next semester, can't wait.
The thing about Dr. X is that she takes off points for the stupid mistakes so make sure you clarify your work clearly or you'll only get half the points practically. She didn't exactly explain very well some things we learned and that's important considering Calc 3 is a "different" kind of transition from Calc 2. Study hard for the tests.
My second class with her and I love her. Quiz or test every Friday, drops the lowest quiz grade. Plenty of extra credit. Lots of drawing graphs, but she gets it if you can't draw. Would definitely take her again and for every math class if I could.
She tries to help, but it doesn't really help. There are a lot of group presentations and one has to be 20 minutes, which can be very difficult with the topics she gives you.
As long as you do her work and show up you pass. She's a little sassy and harsh accent. Buy her textbook. She doesn't teach, she has everyone do group projects and we teach the other students... Hated it.
Dr.X was great for Calc of Management. She explains the concepts well and it's easy to understand. Although she does a lot of homework it will help bring up your grade in the long run if you're not good w tests. Her tests are super easy and if your good at math you can skip bc she puts all her notes from class on D2L.
She expects you to remember everything from algebra and wouldn't go over any of it because she "expected us to know it". So if you forget how to do an algebra problem within the calculus problem you won't be able to get the correct answer. Homework about 3-4 times a week and a quiz every Friday. Some quizzes she allows in partners.
As the curriculum got harder, so did she. Even if you participate and show you care about your grades, she will still grade your test so ridiculously and give no credit if you're off by a decimal point. Really. No personal help at all. Avoids answering questions at all costs. I would choose a different professor if possible. Otherwise, good luck!
I read through some of the other reviews and honestly, if you're mildly intelligent, don't skip, and try at all, you'll do just fine. She's WAY more lenient than the stereotypical asian math professors (giving you all the trig id's and formulas as opposed to memorizing them all).
The class is made up of weekly quizzes, daily homework, and three exams. The material isn't that hard if you put in the time and effort. Dr. X can be harsh to students and is not very helpful when asked questions. But she is probably the best choice when it comes to Business Calculus.
though this class is a lot of math, Dr. X is very willing to help you in any way to make sure that you understand the other cultural mathematics in the Americas. she was very funny and caring! our class loved her very much!
Honestly my favorite professor at MU. MATH 151 is calc for management and Ive never taken a calc class before so I was nervous but Dr.X is a great prof and seriously wants you to succeed. Shes a little intimidating at first, but shes a great person! She was very helpful and I loved being in this class. Ask a lot of questions and sit in the front
Dr. X completely changed how I view not only myself as a math student, but the subject of math in general. She's ridiculously sweet and a pleasure to learn from. She made every subject easy to understand and would do as many or as few examples as we needed. If you do the hw and attend class you'll do well, quiz and test questions come from hw+class
SO MUCH HOMEWORK! UNIV 103 had a ton of homework and it was all really hard. For a seminar class decicated to undecided students there was too much math involved in the class. All of the projects were math related and so was the homework. Some extra credit opportunities. Dr. X is a very nice professor who cares for all of her students.
