In my class other students would get up and teach class b/c he could not tell us in a way we could understand ...please.. class shouldnt be like that. He is so hard to understand, I advise you not to take him.

you're gonna end up teaching yourself...but its totally possible to make an A, during class do your homework, if you have a problem go to the math learning center, not him!

Aiight.. its really hard to understand dude but later on in the year.... haha, its still hard to understand him. Test are extremely easy and usually 20 multi-choice but you gotta teach yourself cuz he hardly teaches anything. Dudes not too great. A2

Ok so... the class is easy right? Well it would be if this dude knew how to speak clearer english. I can't understand what he's saying half the time. Its only easy, if you make it (but what's the point if you don't understand)

Poor man can't speak clear english to save his life. when he teaches he just goes over the examples in the book, wouldn't go to class if he didn't take attendence everyday. quizes are easy. it's an easy A. you come out of the class knowing nothing but you get a good grade.

He couldn't hardly speak English so he was very unclear. The homework and quizzes weren't too bad.He grades on effort most of the time. It works for you if you do the work but it doesn't really help you on the test because you never know what you were missing on the homework.

He is very hard to understand. All of the information is taken straight from the book. Grades unfairly. Strict attendance policy. Bring a book or headphones and sit in the back. You're wasting your time with this one.

AWFUL professor. Cannot speak english and cannot teach. I had to teach myself the whole book. He goes above and beyond on each example and does not teach you how to solve problems at all. I failed the common final because of his lack of teaching.

Absolutely awful! I can't even speak English. Horrible you might as well not go to class and teach yourself the material. He's even more confusing when you to go his office. Horrible professor!

Dr. Dai is a sweet chinese man...but I swear I couldn't understand anything he said. Basically, if you get him you will just have to teach yourself out of the book and go to tutoring. If you aren't strong in math I wouldn't recommend him. BUT he does email you the quiz questions before you have it...and he gives you practice exams that really help.

he is really hard to understand-i bring my computer every class and watch movies-he says so alot but it sounds like sooo so everyone laughs at him-checks attendance randomly-tells stupid stuff that has nothin to do with math and when asked a question he answers a totally different question which is no help..every day people just leave early

Do NOT TAKE FROM THIS GUY. EVER. Seriously: worst teacher for math... he doesn't speak english very well & his analogies are ridiculous. I'm not horrible at math, but I haven't taken algebra in years and Mr.Shinto Dai did not help me or make it any easier to remember and relearn.

I'm sorry, he is a sweetheart and really wants his students to do well, but I cannot understand a word he says. He does examples but does not explain what he is doing at all. If you can help it, do not take from him, but if you already have him don't worry just do the webwork and study the practice tests. I have an A, its not hard if you study

The class isn't hard if you have some form of a brain. Grades are comprised of a lot of webwork and one question quizzes given almost every class period. Going to class is pointless he is difficult to understand and in a large class you will be completely lost. Just work out of the book and You will be fine until chapter 3.... so make a friend.

Has the worst accent... but he has the tightest butt.. and class was ok.. do webwork and quiz.. very easy...

Not a good class at all, his accent is horrible and teaching is very confusing. The only time people would go was when there was a quiz...which he started making random. Try and go a different route with teachers!

Like many others have said, his class is a joke. If you're good at math like me, its not hard to get a good grade. In all, I attended only 3 classes all year and got an A. The webwork is annoying to keep up with though.

He means well, but the language barrier is too great. He doesn't explain, respond to e-mails, or understand or answer questions. If you're bad at math, the textbook is your best friend. Basically you have to teach yourself in this course if you want to do well. Also, do the Webwork and go to class.

he trys but he's the absolute worst. Paying attention in this class is so hard because nobody barely shows up. Out of 150 students....maybe 20 come. You can barely understand him and when you ask him a question, he doesn't answer it. He compares non-related things to math that never make sense. Also, he makes simple stuff 100x more complicated.

Terrible. Barely learned a thing but received an easy A. Not necessarily a hard class but he is honestly awful.

NEVER take his class. you can not understand what he is saying. the translator for sign language was easier to understand than the teacher. he gives examples straight from the booking expecting you to just understand. also the web work online is not what he teaches.

This professor was horrible. I never went to class because I couldn't understand a word out of his mouth! The actual material wasn't hard if you could figure it out on your own but do yourself a favor and DO NOT take his class

Don't take this professor, he knows about 10 words in english. Material isn't that hard but he can't explain it in english.

Completely incomprehensible. Learned nothing in his discrete math class. The textbook is pretty good though.

His accent is so hard to understand... I literally didn't understand ANYTHING he said. He makes math that SHOULD be easy so very difficult. He may be an amazing mathematician, but he should NOT be a teacher. He doesn't know how to teach math... he only knows how to do math. Avoid him at all costs if math isn't your best subject.

Wouldn't suggest taking this professor unless you can speak Chinese. You can hardly understand a word he says. Attendance is mandatory and taken every class, but only on a sign in sheet. The only reason I got a B is because i knew most of the material already. The nice thing is he does open WebWork a lot so you can finish unfinished problems.

College Agebra is an easy course, however, Dr. Dai's lectures make the course 10x more difficult than necessary. His English is nearly incomprehensible, and although he attempts to be accommodating and helpful, his explanations will leave you more confused than you came. Participation is an easy grade, so I would advise showing up.

Worst math teacher of all time. I could not understand a word he said at all! I just stopped going to class, and am retaking this class with a much better professor! Do not take this class he is not helpful at all, and does not know how to teach! You will most likely not pass this class!

Extremely intelligent person but not a gifted instructor. He struggles to convey the material properly and fails to give his students an in depth grasp of the material. If it wasn't for the online portion of the class I would not have learned anything. homework will save your average and teach you everything. I recommend taking another professor

I might as well have taken the class online. This professor is a really sweet guy, but going to his lectures was a complete waist of my time. I had to teach myself everything that I was supposed to understand in class.

I highly recommend taking someone else, especially if you arent good at math.

Most test questions are unrelated to the homework assignments, leaving you very confused. His poor English makes it difficult to understand what's being discussed and the lectures have little to do with the homework. Just use the textbook and self teach.

The course was easily overall, but Dai's teaching methods were not beneficial in any way as he taught the same examples provided to us online; the online examples went more in depth to explaining each problem. The tests were very easy and I was able to maintain an A test avg. Attendance quizzes are taken and total up to a test grade.

Almost impossible to understand. 10 pop quizzes at the end of random classes, online work, 3 tests, and a final make up your grade. You won't learn anything in class you have to teach it to yourself from the online textbook. Tests and final are easy and multiple choice.

He seems like a nice guy but honestly he is hard to understand and the tests he changes the syllabus, making the class very unpredictable. It is a few weeks before the final and instead of the 4 tests promised, we have had 1. He lectures but doesnt actually teach what you need to know. He jsut goes through proofs then lets you struggle on HW.

If youre bad at math dont take this class. Dai cares about his students and wants us to pass. He reset all the overdue homeworks to Dec. 1 so that students could finish their missed homeworks and get full credit, however, he has a thick accent and is difficult to understand. The random attendance quizzes actually boost your grade.

I wish I could give this professor 0 stars. Worst professor Ive ever had by far. Can barely speak English. Makes multiple mistakes in the problems he does for class examples. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Worst professor I imagine I will ever take. I have not learned a SINGLE thing this semester so if you are actually interested in learning, do not take this class. I am not prepared whatsoever for the final exam, but if you just do all of the Hawkes homework you will have an A. Easy A class, but horrendous professor. It seems like a joke it's so bad

This professor is super nice and he is a very sweet person, but the homework is in Hawkes and it is a horrible program which makes this class really hard. He gives 3 exams and a final and they are really hard. Also the homework is like half of your final grade so you should do it!! also I would go to class even if you don't pay attention!

This class was easy besides not being able to understand him but it got worse. He gave a ton of homework right before finals & never answers any questions we ask him. He started giving attendance quizzes, graded them for accuracy & made them count a lot for our grade. Don't take the class if you will actually need math cause you won't learn a thing

I love math, but I hated his course. His accent made the material very hard to learn, and he did not actually teach the material but only went over proofs of the equations in class. Homework was nothing like lectures and tests were even worse. I had to teach myself everything in the course. Avoid this proof for calc 4 at all costs.

DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!! he has a very strong accent, it is so unorganized, and we were so behind the other classes. i felt like i did not learn anything and his lectures were not good all he did was go over examples of the equation. barely knew what he was talking about half the time.

Don't take his class if you don't have to. This class was extremely unorganized, not taught well, and it was very difficult to retain any information from the lecture. The only way I learned any of the material in this class was by watching the videos provided by Hawkes. He also continued teaching after our class time was over quite a few times.

Doesn't teach. I spent thousands on a tutor this semester all to get a C. This professor is awful, do not ever take him.

Genuine good guy but not a good professor.

DO NOT take his class if you have other options. He is a nice guy but attending lecture feels like a waste of time. He starts lecturing a little before class is actually supposed to start. Grades were never updated in canvas throughout the whole semester so you never know where you stand. I wish I waited to take this class with a diff professor.

Very kind man, but doesn't know how to use technology. His accent is very thick and sadly that makes it impossible to understand if you already struggle with the subject. Doesn't use slideshows or post notes and uses a whiteboard so you have to sit in the front.

Lectures are miserable. Works out problems you already did on own for hw. Shows people test grades in class. Never seems prepared. Tests are easy but it isn't worth going to class; you learn nothing more than what you teach yourself at home. Lectures from full to maybe 20 people attending consistently. Easy class for requirement but is a headache

First off, I want to say that Dr. Dai is a very kind and nice person. However, he is very ineffective at teaching. He has a very strong mandarin accent that makes him hard to understand. I had to teach myself a lot of the math due to the lack of understanding. If you struggle in math, do not take him.

He canceled class many times during the semester. He is not willing to work with you with grading even after sending him a screenshot of him saying he would. He doesn't really teach he speeds through everything. Not friendly when you email him. Tests are google form and multiple choice so you can't get any points back for the work you did.
