This guy shouldn't be teaching non-traditional students- If you are not Chinese, do not take this class!! He was soooooo hard to understand, and did not make any sense when speaking English-
He is really not that bad. Once you learn to understand his accent, he's not so hard to follow. If you go to class and half-way pay attention you'll be fine. You do, however, have to put some effort into studying for tests. He suggests that you read the books, but I never have and I have a very high A in the class.
His English does need some work, but he makes the class very easy. All lecture notes and assignments are through vista, and he even emails a study guide with exactly what you need to study for the test. Never opened the book, making a solid B without ever showing up. Never had a prof cater to a student like he does. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Please regard all comments and take this class it might be boring as nothing before but almost 90% of the class only showed up on exam days. It is as easy as it gets, if you need an A then hurry up and take this class
At first I had my doubts because of his heavy accent, but I got used to it after a few weeks. I never read the book, but came to class and paid attention. I studied for less than an hour before each test, and I have a very high A. He does everything he can to help you get a good grade. Anyone who gets lower than a C is a moron.
Well I struggled in the beginning because i could not understand a word that came out of his mouth! This made the first test hard for me. . .but as the semester continued i think he made the tests easier because everything on the slides were on the test. You don't have to go to this class. . .just READ THE SLIDES and you should pass.
DON'T LISTEN TO THE OTHER COMMENTS!!! He is a nice guy but a horrible teacher he has such a think accent you can hardly understand what he is saying. The class average was is a 70 and he still won't give extra credit!
one word: BORING!!!!! Hard to understand... over explains things, and you still don't understand him! All he does is lecture... EVERYONE FAILED his first test... DON'T TAKE HIM!
These negative comments simply have to be from D students who don't bother to do any work. C'mon, this is ECON1100. The textbooks are a waste of time because his tests are from the pp slides on vista. He will even email the class a week and tell you what you need to study. If you can't pass this class with all his help, your simply not trying.
extremely boring and hard to understand. after the first test, i stopped going to class expect for tests and did fine. just email him every once in a while to show him that you are participating. do the assignments....they're an easy A. for the tests be sure to study the power points and the practice questions. no need to study the books.
little bit hard to follow in the beginning, but he made great progress throughout the semester. he is a very nice guy and treat students fairly. i like the topics in his class
GOOD CLASS SO FAR. I LIKE HIS LECTURE SLIDES, BUT TOO MUCH INFORMATION FOR EACH CLASS. WILL HAVE THE FIRST EXAM SOON...
Good ifyou follow his slides... hardley ever used his 2 books. Online assignments sucked...
not very difficult, but you need attend classes and study his lecture slides to get good exam grades.
He's sweet and has a tough time getting sentences out sometimes. His tests are really hard if you don't study. It's just like any class though, keep up with the notes online and you'll do fine. He tries to make jokes sometimes so you can tell he's not a complete square. I'll probably get a B in the class, so can't complain too much.
Took this class fall 07... You don't need the 2 textbooks at all. All the test questions are from the WebCT Power Points. There are 4 tests in the class, and he lets you drop the lowest grade. Tests are fairly easy as long as you study the PPs. 3 online assignments, but they are really easy. Go to class, study the PPs, and you should get an "A".
Dr. Liu makes this class as easy as it could possibly be. He is the BEST-takes time to explain, goes into great detail, basically tells you what is going to be on the tests. Drops the lowest test grade. You will learn alot if you go to class and listen to him. Class attendance important to him so plan to be there if you want to do well.
Every test was from the powerpoints and the notes were easy to comprehend. Mr. Liu gives great examples and analogies. His accent is a little difficult to understand sometimes, but he still gets his point across. He was helpful and really wanted his students to succeed. Make sure you attend class because if attendance is low, he will give grades.
Very fair in grading. 3 tests and an optional final. Somewhat difficult to understand due to his accent. Very polite. Attendance is taken periodically and it will count 6% of your grade. Powerpoint lectures are what his tests and quizzes are based on. Did not really need the textbook.
His accent makes it very hard to understand him. I'm sure he would be a good professor if he would speak up and clarify what he was saying.
Easy class if you read the chapters and pay attention. Reviews assessments and gives study guides that are very helpful on tests. Yes, he has a strong accent, but sit up front and you won't have much difficulty comprehending. Attendance points added to final grade, so come to class and stay til the end, he takes attendance at the end!
He seems to be a nice man. The class was extremely difficult for me, but I have no interest in economics, whatsoever, so that reflected in my grade. He makes slides available for you to bring to class (or print off if you miss), but he does take attendance on random days, so try to be there so you'll get the points. He has a very strong accent also
Tests are minimally hard. He gives study guides and un-timed assesments that both give a fair game to aceing the Exams. very hard to comprehend, lack efficient teaching skills. Made a very interesting subject very complicated due to his inability to properly explain himself but he's sweet and wants everyone to learn. Good Luck!!
The class would be a little bit easy if you knew what he was saying. His lectures are important but he has a strong accent that makes it difficult to understand him. Take home assessments are very hard and the tests are no different. This class would be better taken online.
Great class and knowledgeable professor. Exams are not very hard, but you need study for them. Love the slides and interesting videos...Do more please!
Great class and knowledgeable professor. Exams are not very hard, but you need study for them. He gives practice exams. Love the slides and interesting videos...Do more please!
The class is fairly easy, but with the study guide and practice exam you can pass with very little effort.
He has a thick accent and is difficult to understand...BUT he posts ALL notes in vista and posts study guides AND practice exams. He also has assessments (quizzes) before each test which is taken online with no time limit before due date. He drops your lowest assessment grade and lowest test grade...4 tests 3 assessments, lowest of each dropped.
Nice professor. SO far so good. Like the slides posted online and the review before exams.
Great professor. Very smart and knows his stuff. You cannot pass by memorizing definitions. You have to know how to apply the information. Gives great Power Points, study guides, practice exams and assessments. Go to class and use the materials provided and you will do just fine.
He knows the subject matter, but I really could not understand 80% of what the man said. This is a subject that needs to be taught with examples and applied to business, and since I couldn't understand what he said, I had to teach myself from the powerpoints, which was very difficult at times. Pick an English speaking professor!
Good class and nice professor. He has some accent, but speaks English reasonally well so it is not a problem...maybe beacuse I sit in the front row. But I do wish that he could slow down a little bit.
Do not take him. He does not speak good english. He is not willing to work with the students that put effort and time into his class because you have to teach yourself because he does not teach the material he just reads slides he post on line
A very helpful and considerate professor. He knows the subject well and he is passionate about teaching it. He does his best to make sure every one understands what he teaches and is always available to help. Not only does he consider every one as students but also as human beings with many other issues and resposibilites outside of school. I recom
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS unless you are prepared to teach yourself. He is almost impossible to understand and his examples make almost no sense at all. He gives you practice tests that do not help at all on the actual test. So if you are prepared to teach yourself a hard subject, go for it, if not do not take this class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! I am a straight A student at KSU and I have failed EVERY test he has given, and I studied for hours. He is almost impossible to understand with his Chinese accent and spends the entire class going over powerpoints. I do not recommend him in any way.
From the front row, his accent isn't a problem. If you actually think about the content, it isn't hard. Practice tests are exactly like the real test,& he even gives out an outline on what will be on the test. If you look over PPs, you don't need the book. Slower people seem to have issues in this class, but it isn't from his teaching style.
HORRIBLE CLASS. Cannot understand him at all. Worst class I have taken at KSU. All he does is read the powerpoint each class. You have to teach everything to your self. If you can get another class DO NOT TAKE THIS ONE!
Xueping is a funny little guy, that's for sure. He is very hard to understand, but if you sit in the front, you can understand most of what he says. He randomly played funny videos to keep the subject not completely boring. The tests r extremely difficult, so if u aren't an ECON person like me, consider another teacher. It wasnt too bad though.
All he does is go over powerpoints which is posted online or go over assessments. He is extremely difficult to understand, don't go in thinking "oh he has an accent I'll be fine." Our whole class was frequently asking eac hother to interpret what he was saying. Econ is my favorite subject and I thought I could teach better than he could. AVOID!
Yes he can be hard to understand, so you may actually have to listen and pay attention! It is an easy class if you just pay attention, he basically gives you all the answers to the test through the assessments and the practices. No final, and you do NOT need the book!
He has a thick accent so it's difficult to understand sometimes. But it's an easy class. He basically gives you the answers to the homework and the study guides as well. Also, the study guides are almost identical to the test. You don't need the book. Just pay attention in class, do the homework, and do the study guide and you should get a B.
Professor Liu is very hard to understand, but as long as you sit in the front row you can hear everything. He is very willing to answer questions and reads off slideshows. Assessments can be take unlimited times and gives answers after 1st attempt. Would definitely recommend!
Dr. Liu's class is the hardest class I have ever had in my life. I sit in the front row and am at every class meeting. I graduated high school with full honors and a 3.9. After studying for about 60 hours for his exam I made a 48. It's ridiculous. Avoid him for the sake of your GPA.
Thick accent, quiet voice. Makes everything way more confusing than necessary. Powerepoints are useless, but the book is a big help. The assessments don't give you the answers as stated by someone else, and are really hard. Do you self a favor and take someone else. Sweet guy though.
really nice guy but honestly i wish i hadn't taken him. I can't understand a word he says except "ok"- i work with all korean people and my boyfriend is latin- so im good with accents. This class is so hard im an A student and im PRAYING to get a c in this class. Take someone else.
This class isn't hard. The key is you have to study the assesments and practice exams. He gives you the answers to the practice exams and I swear some of the questions on the test are identical. Attendance not mandatory. Can't understand what he says, dont even try. Never used textbook, waste of money. Ive had bad classes, this is not one. A or B.
This is not a hard class, but attendance is key to doing well. There are very few grades in which he really helps you do well and study for. He reviews study guides and gives you answers. Sit in front to best understand him. Easy A or B class
Here is the deal! He should not be teaching!!! Smart guy, but doesnt mean he can teach!! got a 96 on an assessmet and a 67 on the test. Only difference was he wrote the test. As people have said, can't understand him, not helpful....Just dont do it!
I love him! His accent takes some getting used to, but he is a great professor. He is willing to help you and answer questions. His lectures follow directly with the book. If you didn't read but attended class and still don't understand, the textbook is VERY clear and helpful. His tests come straight from practice exams and assessments! VERY FAIR!
Only 6 grades in the class. 3 assessments and three tests. Im bad with accents so i never understood what he was saying. I only went to class on test days and taught myself from the book and accounting lab. I still made A's and B's on the work so im fine with it.
Super thick accent, hard to understand. 3 exams, 3 online assessments, no final. drops the lowest assessment grade. assessments were online and they were from other sources.... he writes the test............ which makes it harder to pass.. just sit in the first row and pay attention and you'll do fine....
It is not an easy class, but it's doable. Online assessments are open note and will help your grade.Tests are pretty difficult. He is hard to understand, but he really will help you if you go to office hours. Business college tutors are good as well. Random attendance checks count as 5-10% of the grade which can be a letter grade. You will be fine.
Took maymester class. 5 hours Mon-Thurs for 2 weeks. Def hard to understand material in this short amount of time. Extremely difficult and confusing subject. I did horrible on the final exam. The only things that saved me were the assessment and attendance grade. 3 grades total for maymester. Nightmare subject. But nice professor. You be the judge!
Nice guy. Willing to help. Reads straight off of power points and about bored me to tears. Econ doesnt make sense to me so I wouldnt say he is a bad teacher, but i did pretty bad on quizzes and tests I should have done good on. He releases the questions of his quizzes before its due and it follows the powerpoint. I still did bad on those.
Has a very thick Chinese accent but you is very willing to help you. The tests are very similar to the assessments and practice tests. Only 3 tests and 3 assessments. Takes random attendance for bonus points on your final grade. Material is tough but if you pay attention its not too bad. You have to work for the A, but its not too bad. No final.
The thick accent is true. He randomly takes attendance for extra credit which can get you 7.5% of your grade. Tests are not too bad. He is a cool guy with a sense of humor. You do not need the book just use his power point slides. 3 assessments total and he gives the answers to them the day before their due. 37.5% free + 7.5%. Already 45% Take Him!
His accent isn't bad. Sit in the front of the class, and although there might be an occasional word you don't understand, you'll be able to get the general idea of what he's trying to say. Pay close attention on the days he goes over the assessment and practice exam - you'll learn most of the concepts taught on those days; Q's are similar to tests
This professor was great, I'd take him for macroeconomics if I had to. If you show up to class you will pass with an A. He doesn't tell you the exact answers to the assessments but I've been able to figure them out and have gotten 100s on them so far. Take the practice tests and you'll do fine on the tests. Accent, but it wasn't too bad.
This professor is great. He is a very smart guy with a lot of wisdom and knowledge to offer. I would take him again and again if I could. Most students say negative things about him, but he is not hard to understand if you actually pay attention. He is DYING to help you, and loves class participation. Stay off your Mac in class and you'll make an A
Professor Liu was a great professor once you get through the accent. I will admit at times the accent is tough to understand but if you sit close enough to the front it is easy. Tests are similar to the online practice ones and assessments. Only 3 exams and 3 assessments. No homework. Go to class almost every time and you will get a good grade.
He is really nice and wants his students to do well, but this is a tough class. I didn't do well on the tests but still came out with a B because I worked hard on his other assignments and made sure I got all of the attendance points. He is foreign and sort of hard to understand at times but overall was really nice.
Hard to really understand unless you are in the front. Pay attention and extra studying outside is helpful. Takes random attendance for extra credit. Test are difficult.
Ok, the accent is difficult if you're not focused. He doesn't mind repeating though. The class is a little hard. 3 exams (60 pts), 3 "mid-unit" assessment(37.5 pts, which he sets out a class to give you "hints" on each question), & random attendance grades (7.5 pts). Possible 105%. Tests are very similar to the assessments & practice quiz he gives
Attendance counts 7.5% of your grade, and he only takes attendance randomly so make sure you go to every class. His accent is difficult if you don't pay attention. His pre test assessments are easy though and count a lot in your grade. Tests are just like assessments and he gives the answers to them
All the talk about not understanding his accent is very true. I personally could not understand a word he said the entire semester. Unfortunately, no matter what he is saying you are forced to learn the entire subject by yourself. Class is very difficult and tests are very challenging.
His accent is extremely difficult to understand. I try to pay attention and I just cannot follow his lectures. To compensate I read the textbook and I did well. He is willing to help and wants students to come to him if there is difficulty understanding the material.
He won't round your grade up. Takes attendance like 3 times throughout the semester for grades and if you aren't there even if you have a doctors note he doesn't care. Also, very hard to understand. Loves to lecture straight from powerpoint and usually makes no sense
great professor, very knowledgeable, will take him again
The material isn't hard. Lectures conducted poorly. Too much time on easy material, no time on the complex. Uses dried out markers so you can't see examples, even after students provided new markers. No useful feedback on tests. Difficult to work with in office meetings. Grades better after I started teaching myself the material.
Professor Liu is a cool guy, but it really is nearly impossible to understand him in class. He rambles through monotone, hardly understandable lecture every day and then determines our grade from 3 tests. I've never received a grade below a B and I'm fighting for a C in this class. If you have to take him, you're better off just using the book.
Dr Liu knows the subject and is willing to help. You will learn some useful knowledge if you pay attention in class. Take home quiz and attendance can help you do well in his class. Even better if he could spend more time on the hard materials and offer some additional practice in class.
He's hard to here sometimes because he has a thick accent, but if you sit in the first row and go to class you'll get an A. He gives 7.5 attendance points, 3 take-home tests worth 12.5 points and 3 tests for 20 points. The grade totals out to 105/100. And he'll help you outside of class.
If you participate in class, he makes note of who you are and treats you accordingly. His tests are really hard though and there's online quizzes every week. attendance isn't mandatory but he takes it 5 times and it's extra credit.
He is hard to understand but if you HAVE to take him then youll be fine. There are quizzes every two chapters but you will find the answers on quizlet and you get two tries for each quiz and he drops your lowest 2. There are three test and he provides practice problems AND a study guide. If you master those youll for sure get Atleast a B.
Professor Liu is difficult to hear sometimes, has an accent that can be tricky to understand occasionally, and has a boring class. However, the material isn't that bad, there are multiple quizzes, and he has exam prep on D2L to help you get ready for tests. The class is easy enough if you go over the slides and do the practice questions.
Yes, he does have an accent, but if you sit closer to the front and actually pay attention it is not hard at all to understand him. Lectures can be dry at times, but he is very knowledgeable and presents the information in a way that is easy to understand. If you ACTUALLY pay attention and ACTUALLY read the book you will ace the class.
Although the teaching can be difficult with a lecture hall sized room and a quiet professor, this is one of the easiest classes if you take 30 minutes to go over the chapters you need for quizzes/ tests. His grading is clear, and he even gives you freebee points for showing up at random lectures. Good man, available after hours to help you learn.
I took this class during summer and it was an online-class. So, you need to be self-motivated. He gave a great feedback but made you work for it. Textbook will be your friend if you want an A. Tests are not too bad if you pay attention. For me, it is not too tough to pass class with an A.
Expect daily lectures and extra credit for attendance. Also, I find that because he has an accent, it is easy for me to zone out rather than trying to understand him. To combat this, I sat closer to the board and hand wrote my notes. Also, there are quizlets with the vocabulary for each unit.
Really awesome professor. He does have a heavy accent, so I do recommend sitting in the front, but it's not too bad at all. Very intelligent and kind. Teaches Econ well and thoroughly. If you don't understand it, just read the book. Would take again.
Make sure to show up to class because he gives extra credit points randomly for attendance and that saves your grade tremendously, not an easy A, but if you show up to class, pay attention, and try to study you can definitely get a B
Attendance is extra credit. It is taken randomly. Graded by 3 Assessments and 3 Exams. Do the study guide. Sit in the front row as he talks quietly and with an accent.
Attendance will be your extra credit, but it's random so I suggest attending his classes. He is slightly difficult to understand first day, but after that it's fine. He is caring, tells great jokes, is clear on his syllabus and grading criteria. His tests are based off the STUDY GUIDES and Assessments. Study those! Enjoy!
This class is hard, but Liu is great. 11 chapter homeworks, 4 short essays, and 4 tests w/ two attempts each where he takes the highest grade. He also gave the whole class 6.5 bonus points. He really cares about his students, he'll email you several times to remind you of assignments, and if you talk to him he'll help you however he can. Take him!
He knows economics well. I think he just follows the book powerpoints, but he will take examples from the screen & draw & explain them in depth. You need to actually attend class & not be playing on your phone if you expect to understand the material. This is not a class that you can do well without effort if you have no experience with micro-econ.
Not sure if hes better in person, but NEVER take him for an online class. All he did was upload a test bank to D2L, and he even admitted to multiple students he didnt know what questions were on the tests. Tests are insanely hard, multiple attempts, but they change everytime. Lockdown and webcam. Definitely not worth the stress to teach myself.
Def would not take again. Exam questions come from the publisher. Every two weeks three chapter quizzes are due. Three exams plus final, one is dropped. Basically taught myself. Exams use lockdown and webcam. Sends a lot of email reminders. Recommend getting the textbook that has practice questions. You need to read the book to understand at all.
Signed up for his class in person in the Fall but was moved online due to COVID. Not sure if he's better in person, but his online class sucks. Basically paid money to teach myself off a textbook and some videos online/ Youtube. Exams are super hard and comes from publisher, which contains questions not covered in class. Would not take him again.
Overall, I think this professor is fine if you are okay with individual learning. You will have to teach yourself almost everything, and be prepared to take assessments multiple times. I gave the professor a higher rating because he definitely kept with the asynchronous learning concept, and provided extra helped when I asked.
I took him during covid online and it was a terrible experience. I had to basically teach myself through trying to dissect the book to watching youtube videos and yet so did not do great. No doubt he is well educated and knowledgeable but I would not recommend this professor.
Professor Liu was very attentive and graded essays very quickly. The class was challenging, but professor Liu granted a classwide curve and frequently reminded the class of upcoming assignments and test dates. I would highly recommend professor Liu for any economics class.
Class is graded with ~3 tests, & a lot of quizzes, both of them are able to be taken twice, but contain difficult and tricky questions sometimes. I made the mistake of not taking the first test super seriously, and ended up with a lower grade than I would have liked. However reading the textbook on top of attending lectures makes the tests bearable
Microeconomics was made easier because of him. He explains concepts very well. Go to class, read the text book, study and you'll do fine. Each quiz (open note/no lockdown browser) and test (lockdown browser and webcam) has two attempts. He always stops and asks if anyone has questions. Sometimes hard to understand, but his accent is not too strong.
While attendance is not mandatory, it helps to attend class. If you want to pass, read the textbook! Quizzes and exams are not dropped and only will be if he sees fit. With that being said, no extra credit. Quizzes are not lockdown/webcam, but exams are. I would only take his class if you are willing to put in the effort!
This class can be intense but is totally doable. There is a manual and I suggest you read it. His lectures follow the book and so do the quizzes and tests. GET THE BOOK! His is available for outside help but most ECON professors are like ghosts most of the time so be diligent. There is no curve. I suggest you show up and participate.
Very nice man, I took him online so I am not sure what his lecture is about. He gives great feedback on essays and grades pretty fair to me. He even gives reminders on assignments so it's completely understandable on why he does not allow makeup work.
I took him online and as much as I want to say he was a good professor, I have no idea. He literally just posts the PowerPoints and module objectives and that's it. I had no interaction with him whatsoever. His class is based on a total of 3 modules, each include 3 quizzes, 1 essay, and 1 test. Not difficult if you know how to study on your own.
His class was VERY DIFFICULT. You are graded on 3 Tests (Lockdown and webcam) and 16 Quizzes. Everyone says how you have two attempts for everything, however, the second attempt for the tests has EVEN HARDER questions than the first attempt. Lectures are slightly informative but you WILL NEED to read the book if you want a higher grade.
Don't take his class
His class is very lecture heavy even though attendance is not required. There are definitely better and worse options than Liu for econ classes. He's just ok. I managed to pass with an A but it took a significant amount of work- more than the class was worth as a gen ed requirement. He is a good last resort option, but I wouldn't pick him outright.
No lectures, purely powerpoint/textbook. Quizzes aren't terribly tough, but tests are wordy and tough in my opinion. Grading scale is advantageous to success, that's the biggest plus. Wouldn't be my first choice when it comes to ECON2106 but it is passable if you try.
His class was very difficult. No extra credit and did not round grades. Overall, VERY HARD tests and the content was difficult to understand. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! Please save your GPA and wait for another teacher!
Please choose another professor. Tests are VERY difficult and make up a major portion of your whole grade. This class is very Graph heavy, and his teaching style makes understanding harder. Avoid if you can!
Professor is very clear on the grading of the class. 4 writing assignments (5 points each), 4 tests (15 points each) and 11 HW (2 points). The subject is very difficult, I highly recommend keeping OneDay access to the book, also power points are long, but helpful. No extra credit opportunity. He is amazing at reminding us when assignments are due.
Unless you have time to read a textbook and teach yourself. Don't do it, he doesn't care, and is snarky. I beg of you to choose another teacher, he isn't worth the stress. And the quiz/test questions are set up so dumb. It's web lock down + cam only on the test. (You can still get outside help). No notes, just a textbook.
Professor Xuepeng Liu is one of the hardest professors to learn from mostly because he does not provide extra work or practice and hardly goes over the material making it hard to understand and prepare for tests. His hard understanding and unhelpful slide scrolling and long lectures made it overall very difficult to focus and understand his course.
If this class is mandatory, FIND ANOTHER PROFESSOR. I BEG of you. Professor Liu has no capacity to provide engaging or interesting classes/lectures, either speaking only in short unintelligible bursts of words or long monotone, stilted ramblings. Between the sparse quizzes and impossibly hard exams, reading the textbook is your only hope to pass.
Prof Lui is organized. Attendance is not mandatory, but you will benefit from his lectures, which go over ppt slides, examples and some end-of-chapter problems. He is knowledgeable, humorous, and willing to help. One issue: the classroom does not have a whiteboard. The exams can be difficult if you do not keep up with the readings. good luck!
Very strict and straightforward. Prof Paul is very quick-speaking so it's easy to fall out of focus in class. The lectures are just him explaining a slide deck for the chapter. He does appreciate that some students attend and he answers questions well. Very respectful professor, I'd take him again.
