Excellent teacher. He definitely knows his material, by far one of the best teachers you can ever find at the University.
A man with a major chip on his shoulder. Very confrontational with the class, made us memorize credits to popular movies for some obscure reason. I still remember my differences of opinion with him; I guess you could call that learning.
He was very approachable and willing to give help whenever I needed it.
Lulat's classes are one of a kind. Lulat gave me insight into things I never thought could happen in current day America. His classes are educational and they equip you to make a difference in the world!
Lulat's class was eye opening and he teaches you things that are not taught in other classes. He emphasizes looking at history through the eyes of those who were treated unfairly, rather than the perspective of what is written in the text books.
This guy's classes are not for the intellectually lazy. He makes you think. Uses eye-opening documentaries and assigns a lot of reading, but its worth it. The only teacher I know who tests you on the course syllabus! Going through his course makes
It's rare to find a professor so passionate and open to thoughts and so willing to teach. Lulat rocks!
Dr. Lulat is a teacher of the finest caliber. One would be hard pressed to find a teacher of his capacity at any university. He truly cares about his students and what they are learning. His prowess and dedication have made a profound impact on me.
Don't walk in his classroom thinking that it is going to be an easy A. Though he is touch he really knows what he is talking about. He challenges your mind. I would encourage anyone to take his class.
Dr.Lulat is my all around favorite professor since I have been here at UB.He is truely the mostunexpected, impressive, humerous, extraordinary person, professor, and friend that I have ever had the privedge to meet.I feel honored to have learned from him.
very knowledgeable, aggressive, likes to discuss diffrent topics and lets students to be involved in debates etc. i learned a lot about the world from this class. the course material itself is great. i recommed this professor and this class to all

A very knowledgeable and worldly man. A true gem to the department!!
He is very knowledgable in his feild of study and aslo enjoys what he is teaching. He brings in many forms of media to help his students understand the material that is being presented. This is what make attending his class enjoyable. I recommend his clas
His class is very hard, but it helps you grow as a person. He is also very funny and kind.
Great teacher but stay away from him if you're female.
Do Not take this class
What a joke! We had to do a huge paper and in the last class he told us that he wasn't giving the graded papers back until next semester. Do we have to go hunt him down to get them? Or will he mail them to us? That's his way of getting out of grading them. Don't waste your time in this class.
Dr. Lulat was a very demanding teacher for a general education class. Expect to spend ALL your time doing his homework if you take this class. He treated his class as if it was a 400 level course, and made a point to embarrass his students on a daily basis. He doesnt sound like an educator to me.
Teacher?? Id say preacher. Lulat is only interested in pounding his politics into students heads. If you do not aggree(as any open minded person would)prepare to be interrupted and belittled.A small minded and misinformed man! If you are aware of the issues you will not fall victum to his propiganda
unbelievably demanding class and professor...combined with unreasonably hard test questions and demands make this class brutal...but by far the most interesting of all the professors i have had at UB so far... alot of class discussion and debate but i've never looked forward to a class so much even w/ out vast differences in oppinion
One of the most passionate and hard working teachers I have come across. This means you will work your butt off in this class.
originally took this class because it was a requirement, now looking to take more classes in the same area. one of the best teachers i've had in my life. incredibly demanding, and has very set opinions, but extrememly passionate. only class i never skipped, and actually looked forward to going to, despite it being three hours.
His basic message is "only one thing saves us from barbarity: democracy." If you dont agree with that then you need to wake up and smell the coffee.

This is the hardest class that you could possibly take. He flat out told us that we shouldnt have a social life. He assigns alot of homework and has a ridiculous amount of material to cover on the tests and o dont forget about a 12 page term paper that has to be written in size 10 font, but the one up side is that you do learn alot, but i wouldnt recommend going through all this work
unbelievably difficult teacher. way too demanding for the level class i took (200). stay away from this guy...he's nuts
I'd love to take another class with him. Yes, the man is demanding. Yes, he's one of the greatest professors I've ever had.

Wow! Over one year has passed, and he still hasn't returned my 20 page paper that I handed in for the course. I bet he didn't even grade it.
The only ppl who do not like him are registered Republicans because Republicans are to proud to hear the sound of their own voice, than speak the truth. Very Very Challenging class, I say take this class if it is the only class on your schedule because it is that challenging. Not an easy A & don't walk in with a cocky attitude.
Teacher kew what he was talking about. He kept it real at all times. Howvwer the readinis ridiculous only take this class if this is the only class that you have for the semester.
Not a hard class if you approach it the right way. Assigns infinite readings, but they are all EASY. Tests are freakin' open-note, although you won't need to take any notes because the readings aren't difficult and are mostly common sense. The only thing that I didn't like was that we had to watch movies on our own.
Great professor. He is one of the most hard working teachers at UB. He is very passionate about his work as he should be. His class can be tough, especially to finish all the readings, but its true that you change as a person after taking this class. Thanks Lulat!
If you are a lazy, arrogant, typical American student, you may hate Lulat. If you want to learn--I mean, really learn something--take this class. The readings assigned are vast, but I skimmed them and pulled an A-. He is an incredibly passionate teacher who devotes his life to knowledge. Put your laziness and apathy aside and take this class.
Politically speaking, I'm on the same page as Lulat. However, it was apalling to see how openly hostile he was to students who did not share his political views. Many otherwise intelligent kids literally got bad grades on assgmnts for simply, say, being in favor of capital punishment, or against affirmative action. Arrogant in the extreme.
More than once assigned films to watch outside of class that were not available on VHS or DVD, or extremely rare and not owned by the department. Replied: "Find it on eBay." Would routinely complain that he was too busy to be bothered with office hours or grading. Do not expect him to treat you with respect if you do not agree with him politically.
Professor Lulat is intelligent. However, he is a very poor instructor. BEWARE, he is intimidating and condescending!
Incredible professor - but the poster a few below me is right. If you're lazy, don't bother. And if you have nothing to contribute to class discussions, don't bother. Lulat is dedicated to teaching, but you have to be dedicated to learn! Incredible class, amazing perspective on the world. I highly recommend him.
Lulat is brilliant professor and he expects a great deal from his students. I have learned a lot. His exams are very indepth and if you dont think like him beware. He humiliates students who answer a question in class and get it wrong. Conversations between students outside of class should never be talked about inside class. You have been warned.
Class was incredibly easy. Attempted to shatter my perceptions of race which have been shattered repeatedly since 3rd grade. All very trite. Easy A if not incredibly boring. Very condescending for a mediocre professor.
A brilliant, passionate, and hard-working teacher but incredibly demanding! Definitely not an easy A class (obsessed with not wasting your tuition). Appears intimidating at first but is really not. A funny guy with a dry sense of humor. Gives U detailed syllabus and follows it. No patience for the lazy. I recommend him highly if U value learning.
THis course was intellctually speaking awesome! I have taken 3 classes with Dr. Lulat so far. He is no more demanding than other UB teachers, plus he gives you tons of breaks. This dude has six degrees from 4 universities across three continents. He writes books that are dense and long (see the reviews at Amazon). He is definitely NOT mediocre!
Lulat is crazzzy! But I loved his passion and commitmment. This course was a bit hard, but he gave us many breaks. Was really fair + laid out everything up front, no bait & switch. A very honest teacher. What also impressed me is he tells you everything like it is, no sugarcoating, no hiding the truth. Extremely knowledgeable, walking encylopedia.
This is an amazing professor. Very demanding. Not for the lazy. But he gives you your money worth. He will help you with work you may not understand, but you must do the work! Otherwise he can change your life in the way he teaches. I highly recommend him.
Dr. Lulat is rediculous. You can not do anything right nor are any answers produced by the students correct in Lulat's mind. After dealing with this professor I only have one thing to say... Wake up Lulat, NOT EVERYTHING HAS SUB-TEXT, if you have him you will understand that. Don't expect to learn anything pertinent to the course description.
Brilliant, just hard!
He eliminated the TA before classes even started, so there was no recitation. He expected a lot of reading, and outside of class work, especially for a 100 level course. He is very opinionated, and will battle with those that don't agree. But overall, he cut many breaks (tests mostly), is a great guy that LOVES to teach (he's good at that part).
He expects a lot of work to be done for a 100 level course, but he ditched the TA, so no recitation. Tests were hard, and required quite a bit of studying, but he almost always gave a break on each test. Very opinionated and will battle people that don't agree, but he's a great teacher, and loves to teach. Was interesting going to class each day
Classes were never boring! Demanding but very fair. Forces you to think through your disagreements which may make you really upset (dislikes intellectual laziness). Extremely knowledgeable, passionate and hardworking teacher. Clearly loves his job. Strangely, a genuinely warm and likable person when you talk to him one on one (BUT NOT IN CLASS!)
Dr. Lulat is not for the faint of heart. Be prepared to have your ideals challenged, your brain challenged, and your hand cramped from taking notes. World Civ. 1 has prbably never been taught this way. He uses a lot of A/V material so I am never bored. Lulat has made me think about the world in an entirely new way. Bravo!
Extremely tough course especially for a gen ed!! When he says to drop if you do not have time for the course HE MEANS IT!! He recommends that you only take 4 classes in a semester even though in most majors that is impossible. I do not recommend this course to anyone who doesn't have time to spend every second on this class.
He is passionate about course material and giving students a quality education. He is very intelligent and knowledgeable in his area and on current topics. He demands much work but is fair.I enjoyed the class. The info and movies where interesting & relevant.I learned a lot and his website helped me in other areas.Recommend to serious students only!
When I got to class the first day, the impression that I got was he was the most terrifying person I've ever encountered..but after a while I realized that he isn't as harsh/mean as he seems on the surface. He really is serious and into what he does. As long as you pay attention and really give an effort, you will be fine. He's quite inspiring.
This professor tries to teach philosophy, not history. Every class is a guilt trip about "Appreciation". Uses a book he wrote as part of the course material
Dr. Lulat is one of the more intense professors at UB. He'll come off as terrifying in the beginning but eventually you get used to the intensity. Definitely do the readings and be prepared to be randomly called on in class. The class is most definitely interesting but be prepared to do some work!
Not a terrible class, but unbelievably demanding for a 100 level course. Don't take the class if you have a full schedule, you definitely will fall behind and it'll be hard to catch up. Lulat cares about his students and you can tell he loves teaching but he is very challenging. Stay away if you're looking for an easy A.
Do not take this class if you are not prepared to do an insane amount of work for a 100 level class. However, if your looking for a challenge and to see world history from a very different perspective I would recommend the class.
You watch movies every single class. Sounds like an easy A, but his tests are unreasonable. His tests are incredibly long for the amount of time given. He expects way too much out of a gen ed class. He would be more suited teaching a graduate level course for the amount of work he requires. Oh and DEFINITELY BUY THE TEXT BOOK.
Lulat challenges you to think critically about society and your role in it. He pushes you to make use of your time in college and in life to engage with and produce high-quality and purposeful scholarship. He is insightful, passionate, brilliant, and fair. Take ANY/ALL of his courses if you aspire to grow intellectually and personally.
If you're lazy don't take this class. If you came to college to learn and put you tuition money to its proper use then this is the class for you. Its no where near easy but its worth it. Lulat offers a perspective of how the world really works beyond our everyday safe environment. Classes like his show you what college is supposed to be all about.
If you're lazy this is not the class for you. If you're close minded, and protective of your personal beliefs that aren't backed up by history and current events this is not the class for you. For anyone else who's especially interested in social justice and politics, it gets no better than this class.
He always tells us we're lucky to be in school and not in Syria being shot at. However being shot at would be a great, more productive alternative to this class. He plays movies every class and tests you on the copyright page of the textbook and the links on his website. If you are interested in learning about the subject Do Not Take This Class!
This man is the worst teacher you will ever encounter. what ever you do, do NOT take Lulat for world civ. He makes you do a horribly ridiculous amount of work with very little to show. He spread out the grading system so that a 97-100 is an A (not even A+) and made a 50 passing so he can get away with all of the low grades in his class.
Hes extremely qualified but i think instead of us learning, he wants us to appreciate what we have, like not being born during the nazi era or being handicapped. Although hes difficult hes really nice and as long as you dont ask him something hes already answered hes willing to help you. Best advice: be in HIS recitation, not a TAs.
Lulat is a gifted professor who WILL MAKE YOU WORK. If you want to get through college with easy A's, and a brain full of beer and mush, don't take his class. If you want to be challenged, and come out of World Civilizations with a better understanding of the world you live in, and your place in the historical timeline, TAKE LULAT.
If you're looking for an easy A, turn around and run. Otherwise, if you're willing to work hard for a good lesson, take his class. He will seem intimidating at first, but is in reality a nice guy. Attendance is mandatory and lots of reading.
All the reviews saying he is a terrible professor are most likely from students who hope for easy A's and pampering. Yes, he is a very diligent professor with very high expectations from his students. Yes, his work load and satirical manner can consume you. But he's a GENIUS and if you seek him for help, he'll treat you like his own grandchild.
I had UGC 112 and 211 with this professor. I decided to give Lulat a shot after I did bad on UGC 111 with other prof. Lulat is very eccentric but he knows what he is talking about. Class is hard but it pays off if you actually read your book. His take home tests are a piece of cake and if you do well on a test, you get a chance not to write papers.
He teaches a basic 112 level course as if it is a graduate 500 level. It is a lot of work and balances grades so he can look good even though you are stressed with bad test scores. Has a very dry humor and likes to call you out. Sometimes is actually offensive and very set in his sarcastic ways. Do not take this class. Way too much.
I had the most points accumulated on the 4 exams that was used to determine our final grades. I only received a b+, if your trying to maintain a 4.0 don't join but if you want to learn do.
Dr. Lulat is a very demanding professor BUT if you want to learn about the world, the academy, and yourself, take him. You will have to put in a very large amount of effort. His assignments will not be easy. His class may even be frustrating at times. But he's very accommodating and wants to see his students succeed. Sad to see this class end.
Dr. Lulat is one of those professors that you will truly remember forever. Strict, but incredibly intelligent. Attendance mandatory, no electronics allowed in class, tests and work load is insanely long and hard, 90% of info tested on is work that has to be done on your own, but gives you a lot of breaks and your view on the world changes forever.
Lulat thinks that he knows everything in all fields, and expects you to know all kinds of random stuff for the test like who won the african soccer cup, etc. I liked world civ before i took his class but he just makes me hate history so much. dont get fooled by other comments on here do not take his class!!
A sheep in wolf's clothing. (talk to him and not as mean as he appears). Did not find as demanding as others claim. Gives U many breaks, but don't expect a free ride! Incredibly passionate teacher. But wants you to keep up with the news. One of those teachers with an amazing breadth of knowledge who you will remember for the rest of your life!
Do not take this class for an easy A. You will have to work for your grade and if you put in the effort, it will show. Dr. Lulat is very willing to work with you if you are putting in the effort. He's a very interesting professor and I have learned a lot beyond the subject matter of the class. He really tries to prepare you for the real world.
Far too much work with probably not even half of it being necessary information to take with you in life (ex: various musical artists, questions on credits of various movies, ingredients for "sugar mice")
Professor Lulat is an interesting professor but for a general education class at U.B, you have to put in a lot of time and work. Being a Pre-DPT major i can honestly say I had to do more work in his class then all my other science classes. His class is not an easy A. Head his warnings at the beginning of the course.
This is one of those course that would change your life mentality and open you up to the world. the professor is unnecessary requires alot of the students which is annoying but if you are tired of a life with no meaning. Learn about appreciation because I am certainty glad this guy made UB worth it.
Lulat gives so much work.He believes we're all so lucky to be born in the US and all this other bull. His tests are made up of about 70% of questions that are so annoying to figure out.He gives so much reading. This class is way to time consuming to be an 100 level class. He expects too much from students. Dont take this class. No laptops allowed
Dr. Lulat is a tough professor but he is passionate about education and truly cares for his students. The work load is heavy but he makes himself available during office hours if you need help. This is a great class to take. The amount of information I learned was incredible.
Don't be turned off my some of these ridiculous responses. This is a wonderful class and Dr. Lulat is an excellent professor. It will be difficult to find another professor who truly cares and is dedicated to his students. The class work is tough but this is a college level course. I wouldn't expect anything less.
Probably the worst class I've taken. He is rude to students. The workload is outrageous for a gen ed, even if you study a lot its hard to do well. Makes you watch tons of movies and then tests you on small details no one remembers. It ruined my semester.
Too hard for a 100 level gen ed class don't recommend him to anyone he makes this class way much harder than it is he asks questions on what color the picture in a chapter in the book is, when you ask him a question he either says go to your TA or check the homepage online never answered my questions.. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS .
I had a nightmare that I didn't finish one of his assignments and woke up terrified. I already passed the class in the spring semester.
He is the greatest professor I ever met! I found his class to be very tough at the beginning, but then I find that's not true. His class is pretty different from others. Highly recommended!
First off, this is a demanding class--not an easy A. Professor Lulat's class is one of the few that I will never forget. He pushes you to do your best, and teaches material he is really very passionate about. Go to his office hours and get to know him. Awesome professor
Lulat is awesome <3 Lots of hard work required, though. Make sure you're not afraid to approach him. Very easy to talk to.
all these comments are pretty much on point, tests are insane...INSANE... too many and way to detailed to do well. doesn't grasp the fact that people have other classes and don't have all week every week to study for his class.. his view on history is really cool tho and i enjoyed that but the work load is just way too much, esp. for a 100 lvl
Although Lulat might be an awesome, highly passionate professor, probably one of the best at UB, his work load is incredibly long and tedious. No one at this school has time to study his website nor has the mental ability to do well in all their classes when they have his class.
At first, I thought professor Lulat was a creepy old guy who reminded me of Ebenezer Scrooge. Wasn't the case. Not an easy A. Combats American hubris of college students. You actually develop a new set of eyes. Genius, really.
At first, he is a really really nice professor. One of the most helpful professor who really care his students. If you want to get an easy A, avoid him, but if you want someone to stand in your mind forever, influence you forever, just take his class. there will be 9-10 tests, but half of them are take home or discussion test. Strongly recommend.
Avoid him if you can. Hard grader and way too much work for 100 level gen-ed class.
This is more than a class, it is an experience. It is worth it and you will work.
For those who find his class to be demanding, do not curse the teacher but rather see what that reveals about your view on education. An easy A means your mind was never challenged and what's the purpose of paying to come out with a degree learning nothing? Dr. Lulat taught me lessons that I carry on with me for life. Loves to help students who ask
Dr. Lulat is one of the "must take" professors at UB. You will never have another teacher like him and he will flip your perspective of justice and reality. And don't think that you won't learn from him, wake up, pay attention, and open your mind. This guy has a message we all need to hear.
Dr.Lulat is one of the professor that I admired. Yes, he is tough, yes he asked for small detail for his assignment but his techniques and chains of analysis is amazing. After taking his class you will question all your methods of learning especially the history of this country. he will open your third eye.
There were 2 occasions where I emailed him with questions, which the TA's were unable to answer for me, and because I wanted to have a conversation with my professor whom I pay money to speak with. On both of these occasions, he totally ignored my email. From then on I stopped emailing him. He is arrogant, biased, and hypocritical.
He gives out an absurd amount of work. I am taking 15 credits this semester, and this class makes it feel as if I am taking over 20 credits. It has made my courseload unmanageable, and I do not even have a part time job. I do not suggest this class if you are taking more than 12 credits. Trust me, I thought I could manage the courseload.
Many people claim to not like Dr. Lulat, but I think that is due to a lack of understanding and patience. He is a very tough teacher but that is because he is constantly challenging his students, if you expect to be babied then don't take his class. Overall, he is a great professor and has become a friend/mentor to me! Strongly recommend.
He is a man with VERY strong opinions and he lets you know them. He gave wayyyyy too much homework, I couldn't handle it. His test questions are a paragraph long and very difficult most of the time. If you read everything and watch all the movies thoroughly maybe you will do well on the test. He is very formal and scary.
This is the most demanding course I have ever taken. Do not take this class if you are taking more than 12 credits. Trust me. It will take you several hours every single night to keep up with the readings and videos assigned in this class.
In his class you are very stressed all the time, he is rude and very opinionated, in fact I didn't like him so much that I just want to warn others here not to take his class if possible, there are much more pleasant and friendlier professors at UB than him. Beware!
Great Professor, very knowledgeable, passionate.
By far the most arrogant professor I have ever had. Somehow fails to realize that his students take classes in addition to his. Huge hypocrite, contradicts things he says with his actions. For example, he preaches asking thematic/big picture questions, then he will ask you what animal did not appear in a film you were assigned.
This man is truly intolerable. Doesn't answer emails. Doesn't hand back exams. Assigns a lot of work. But these are not the reasons I do not like him. I do not like him because he feels the need to inject his world and political views into every sentence that is spewed from his mouth. Not just that, but the movies, and readings he assigns as well.
Best teacher I've ever had. Concepts are difficult but everyone should take him at least once, but read the syllabus first. The only kids i know who dislike him are extremely lazy.
Great professor. I HATED him after the first class because he embarrassed me..A few weeks later I loved him. He is ALWAYS willing to talk to you outside of class & help you. He is truly one of the best professors at UB. Yeah, I got a C+ in his class, but the things I learned I will take with me for life. Don't let your own laziness stop you.
Great professor, he teaches stuff that you can take outside of class. He gets pissed off easily, asks students if they have questions, then yells at them if they do type of professor. He teaches this class as if it is a serious class when you are only taking it as a gen ed. However, there are ups and down to this class, you have put it in the work.
His "life lessons" were politically charged and racially motivated. He constantly belittles students in an attempt to combat "civilizational hubris." His research paper outline, which he acts as if it is a favor, is actually tedious beyond any paper I have written before due to the citation requirements and having to include photocopied sources.
Dr. Lulat is an awesome person. It really feels like a privilege to have been able to take a course with him. He is both extremely knowledgeable and passionate. He expects a lot from students but provides you with knowledge that you will take with you forever. I learned so much in this class that has altered me as a person, not just as a student.
Dr. Lulat is one of the best professors I have had the pleasure of working with. Almost all the comments attacking him are by students who didnt learn how to learn in HS and arent ready for a real university. They are cry babies who should've went to junior/community college. YOU WILL LEARN FROM THIS MAN! HE WILL DRAG THOUGHT FROM YOUR GOOEY MIND!
Dr. Lulat is a great professor and has made a positive impact on my life. This class connects the past with the present which is very interesting. Dr. Lulat has a unique style of teaching that keeps you engaged. I've never learned so much in a semester. I never was a fan of history until I had dr. Lulat. I recommend everyone to take this course
First had Lulat for UGC112 (these comments apply to that course too). Took AAS355 to fulfill gen ed req. Best teacher I've had at UB. Very passionate about teaching. You will come away from this class a better person in all aspects of life. His classes might not be for the lazy, but even the lazy may have a change of heart if they give him a shot
Professor Lultat is awesome. Yes, his class is very difficult. I got a C+ but yet I'm writing this comment because he's made me THINK about things I never would have prior to taking his class. If you have the opportunity to meet and get to know him, take it.
One of the most intelligent professors I have ever had. Your life will change after his teachings.
I took 4 classes with Dr. Lulat. He is brilliant and will open your mind to concepts you've never thought about. He teaches you to analyse and question everything. Yes, there is hard work involved, but don't avoid his classes due to sheer laziness. He's always available for help, is understanding and knowledgable. I received A's and B's throughout.
Professor is initially very intimidating, but very helpful if you seek him out. The class is extremely demanding, but very rewarding if willing to put in the time and effort. Tests are extremely tedious, but he is generous with extra credit and bonus questions. If you're willing to put in the effort, you will come away pleased with the results.
Best Professor !! Said no one ever!! But no he's truly amazing!! Your life would change forever, if you are a slacker do not take his class, I repeat DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!! However if you want to learn something useful and get the worth of your college money, TAKE HIM!!!! :)
THIS IS A GENED COURSE. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU ARE NOT PURSUING A MAJOR IN HISTORY. THIS GUY MAKES THIS SUBJECT SO HARD YOU. HE WILL NOT SPARE A MINUTE TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU GIVE HIS SUBJECT MORE IMPORTANCE THAN ALL THE OTHERS SUBJECT COMBINED. THERE ARE FRIDAY NIGHT TESTS AND SATURDAY MORNING MIDTERM EXAMS. TAKE HIM ONLY IF YOU WANT YOUR GPA TO...
I would honestly give him a 0 if that were an option on here; and I wouldn't be the first one. Don't take this teacher if you're not ready to be embarrassed in front of class, looking to take over 200 question tests on separate days from lecture and if you are taking him for UGC. Go with ANYONE but him. He ruined my life;and I'm a female. HORRIBLE.
The recent negative ratings of DR Lulat are stereotypical of public school students who never had to work hard in their life. Taught how to pass tests rather than think. I would sit in on his class just for the experience. If you don't like DR Lulat's class, DONT GO TO COLLEGE
Got A! Gives extra-credit for attendance; note books; quizzes. Sometimes half of test is just bonus questions! Very considerate, gave all A's on a test due to copier not working. Cares about everything. Even explained about tenure and assigned the school sexual harassment policy. Very approachable outside class. Paid for me at Tim Horton's!
very detailed syllabus+gave us statement on his teach philosophy but we R not here to be critical thinkers and all that stuff. we just want our degrees so to scoot out of UB as fast as we can. cuts you a lot of slack, but dont skip classes! friendly but old fashioned. Insists to start class with a greeting and loves Marillion and Rushenuf said!
Carefully read the syllabus, did the x-tra creds & boom bagged a B+. Some tests were take-home multiple choice! As he says, What is there not to like? Taken 3 courses with him so far! Really knows his stuff! Interesting classes. May appear intimidating, but easy to talk to. Motivated me not to quit school.
IF U dont read the syllabus & instructions properly class will appear harder than it really is. Whatever U do dont miss class & watch those videos. Inspires U to think for yourself. One day brought us apples! (discussion about Colombian Exchange). First day of class thought the man was mean But dont judge a book by its cover. Friendly guy.
Some students talk about him in the same way that people talk about the weather when they have nothing to talk about. (lol) Taken 3 classes with him so far! Classes are not that hard, especially if you take all the breaks he gives you. Definitely one of the most passionate & friendly teachers on this campus. Has a dry sense of humor though.
Gives tons of breaks. Allowed us to compare answers during one test! Has degrees from many places. Clearly loves his job, one of most hardworking teachers around. At first may not appear likable, but as he says, you are not in his class to date him. But really cool dude when you get to know him. Dont miss class and read that syllabus.
This teacher writes his own comments on here to boost up his rating lol don't take him esp if you're not a freshman and don't have to for pre reqs. He tries to manipulate and belittle his students. There are better teachers out there for UGC.
This is definitely not the easiest class you'll ever take and you might have to work hard for A in this class. Beginning of the semester is a bit tough, but it just gets better. Sometimes he just gives an A for showing up for the test. There's a lot of extra credit. Our term paper was a 1-2 page in class essay about yourself and major. Lectures!!!!
Lulat is an amazing professor who not only teaches you the course but gives important life lessons during lecture. He can over-estimate when it comes to giving reading assignments but he pays if off by giving extra credit!
This professor will tell you how many Doctorate degrees he has 3 times every class. Do we care? No. He will tell you how important education is for success, yet this man does not have a TV at home. More about the class; His website is confusing and completely useless. His tests are beyond long and are open notebook but questions are asinine.
Tests are not on what is gone over in lecture. The tests are on documents and videos he finds online that you have to watch and take notes on in your own time. He will ask you about specific details from the textbook that are nearly impossible to remember from reading to taking the test. Too much work for a Gen Ed.
Practice what you preach, that is not a phrase the professor follows. He will constantly belittle you and make you feel pathetic. Hubris is a term that he will use over and over saying how it is the cause of great catastrophes while at the same time being blinded by his own. The only lesson you will learn is that this class is a catastrophe itself
His lectures are very weird but sometimes interesting. Tests on friday nights!!!! Term paper is basically a biography which is nice.
He'll start every class with reminding you of how much of a terrible student you are and how much harder he had it as a kid. His class is full of his own views which sometimes are far from truth or idealistic. Honestly would not recommend. Not a good professor at all. Would have dropped the class already but i'm almost done.
Seriously, only take this class with Lulat if it is a last resort.
If you go to class and take lots of notes, then this class is a bit easier. A bit easier still means it is harder than most. He never has a lesson plan and flies by the seat of his pants. Nothing frustrated me more than taking this man's class.
Amazing professor. Classes are interesting, lectures teach not only academic material but life lessons as well. Tests are tough so TAKE GOOD NOTES IN LECTURES AND ON AV/READING MATERIAL! He lets you use them on all tests and always gives extra credit. It was a bit of work but one of the best classes I've ever taken. TAKE A CLASS WITH LULAT!!
awful professor!
One of the best professors I have ever had. Such a smart dude with an insane historical background. Yeah, his class is kind of hard and requires a lot of work, but it is very much worth it. His lectures are full of life lessons and straight up facts about the world. Take this class and you will learn so much.
AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL!!!!! if its not my last resort... I WILL DROP THE CLASS ASAP! HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. LOTS OF INSANE QUIZZES, WHICH THE QUESTIONS NEVER MAKE SENES. His final materials are MOSTLY written by himself and its bad sentence structure and hard to understand. THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU HIT THE ADD/REGISTER BOTTON!!!!!!
If you are rushing to find one more class to take, such as I did, don't take one with Lulat. Over 5 hours of reading every week at least. Quizzes are open note, but your notes better be pretty extensive. He also takes about two months at a time to put up your grades. Needed a notebook and a half to write down all the necessary notes in the class.
Stay far away. Painfully obvious which of these reviews he wrote himself. Takes forever to grade weekly quizzes which are graded arbitrarily. Biggest ego EVER. Very demeaning and condescending especially if your answer or question isn't "good enough". Wastes time yelling about small, stupid stuff. Lectures are random and don't line up to readings.
The class was challenging in terms of the amount of work we had to do. He is a very insightful professor and outside of class is easy to talk to. As long as you do your work and actually try you should be able to pass
Lectures and tests are not related to World Civilization. The professor is vulgar and often very disrespectful, and uses his class as a platform for his own poorly articulated political opinions. Anyone looking for a intellectually stimulating class should steer clear. However, I highly recommend the course to anyone looking for an easy A.
Probably one of the more interesting professors at UB. A lot of reading is assigned, but most of the readings are articles and excerpts handpicked by him, which are generally very interesting and thought provoking. Critical thinking is one of the main focuses of this class, which is something you don't often see in general education classes.
I've taken World Civ with this professor twice, and I would do so again if I had to. He is very understanding and encourages students(current and former) to speak with him outside of class. The textbook is NOT optional since there are many readings assigned. Also, I would practice good note taking skills as they will be very useful in this course.
Lulat requires things to be done in such a concise manner that amass heavy penalties if failed. His website is outrageously complicated and missing class even with extreme excuses will cost you (& the class) a lot. His tests are based on unimportant details of major topics (i.e. If we watch a film, he'll ask the color of the protagonist's pants.)
He treats everyone in his class as if they were a coddled child and is extremely condescending. He is all over the place and you never know when to take him seriously and that is entirely his own fault. He will degrade you in lecture about academic integrity and then ironically have discussions with students during exams. Avoid at all costs.
I was afraid to take a class with Dr. Lulat but I ended up looking forward to classes. One of my favorite profs. Yes, he makes you work hard, and yes he is VERY demanding. If he says or suggests you do something he expects you to do it & doesn't take excuses. Dont take if you just want to pass. He's "old school" but caring if you get to know him.
Dr. Lulat is a great professor that gives clear cut expectations and assignments and combines lectures with class discussions and reading materials in order to help students completely absorb the material and concepts of the course. He operates the course based on the students - if you put in effort you will get good grades and you'll enjoy it.
Worse class I ever taken at UB. A lot of readings. He gives verbal quizzes and humiliates and degrades you when you answer questions wrong. The papers he makes you write are unreasonable. Avoid his class at all costs
Lulat is an awesome teacher. I took his AAS 355 for my am plur credit and learned way more info than i would have in ugc 211. He's like partially insane but he's super passionate about what he teaches. You really have to read the material and show you're putting in effort for the class otherwise you'll fail for sure. You won't regret takinhis class
Lulat is one of the best professors I have ever had at UB. He expects a lot out of his students, but is really supportive & fun if you put in effort. He gives exact outlines of what to study & allows notes. I look forward to his classes each week, & the material he assigns is always interesting/relevant. Challenging but really rewarding classes.
Dr. Lulat is an amazing professor. Prior to taking his class I was discouraged by his reviews, dont be. Short and simple to pass: Show up, DO THE READINGS,pay attention, and show effort. He is a fair grader and you can tell that he genuinely cares. He expects a lot, but not more than any student is capable of. dont be lazy and you'll get a good grade
Lulat is an incredibly caring professor, he does so much research to give you information he knows is current, relevant, and down right necessary. He will call you out if you don't do the reading or if you disrespect him(as he should honestly). He gets a bad rap because he's tough on his students, coworkers and the school but he's a great professor
Well meaning Professor that may come of as a little kooky, but for the most part seems to really have an interest in the material that he teaches. Can tend to go off on a tangent and sometimes loses the class, in effect causing stagnation in the flow of the class. His video references tend to be interesting. Beware of highly specific tests.
By far the worst teacher had in my whole entire time on this earth. He is a bully in class and targets certain kids even who do there work. This teacher gives tests that are actually very hard even if you study for a good amount of time. EX: A long time studying sometimes will at best get you a 50 on some of his exams.
he's a little different, you are not permitted to use blackboard. He has created his own website.
Dr. Lulat is an extremely respectable man. Passionate, intelligent, and dedicated. While he does assign a lot of work, he is willing to make his students lives easier (ex: open book tests) if they behave well and show effort in class. He is tough if you dont come to class or dont try. He is also extremely caring and understanding.
I would not suggest taking a class with this professor. I have never been so aggravated or disrespected by a professor in my life. He does not answer emails, does not post homework on time and yells at the class. He is extremely hypocritical and an excuse of a professor. He insults everyones intelligence daily and is a miserable human being.
This is my professor for the spring semester and he is a little strange. This class can be agitating because of him. I question his style of teaching and he does not respect his students. He had said things in class that is questionable and he often yells. I know that I just started his class but he has been so rude and weird with the class.
Absolutely Brilliant
Every week there is an oral quiz, that the class takes together. He asks impossible questions half of the time, and ridicules you in front of the whole class if you do not know the answer. Attendance policy is ridiculous, every class you miss 10 pts off your grade, even for a valid reason. He is pretty smart and passionate, just a hard prof.
Oral quizzes every week, a ridiculous amount of reading for the chance to get called on in class, but you better do all of the readings because if you don't get the question right, he ridicules you in front of the whole class. Save yourself a lot of anxiety and work and don't take a class with him.
Worst class I have ever taken at UB. Insane amount of work for little pay off. Every time I enter class I get a wave of anxiety. Peers feel the same way. You need to read or watch HOURS of material for the chance you may get called on in class during the oral quizzes. If people get the answer wrong he yells and calls everyone in the class lazy.
Every time you miss class he docks 10 points from your whole grade. You need documentation to prove you missed class for a good reason. You can do all of the CRAZY amount of work he assigns and still be lost. God bless whoever willingly choses to take this class after reading the reviews about him on here.
Not the greatest professor on earth. His classes can be extremely unclear as to how you can pass the class. Luckily once that's understood, at least in 254, it's almost an easy A. He does have a knack for embarrassing students mid class but it's avoidable. If you need an "Easy A", go for it. if not, stay clear of his classes
He literally took a half hour out of exam time to tell us about how professors dont need to care about their students because theyre all doing research to get tenure...
He will make you work but you will definitely learn a lot of information. He may be tough but he will work with you if you need.
You can do hours of work and take an insane amount of notes and still do horribly in this class. Just a heads up you have to get a 97 to get an A in the class and almost all of the class failed our first test. DO NOT take this class unless it is your last possible option. Test questions are on trivial details you wouldn't think to remember.
Don't take this class, or any class with this professor. I swear my hair is falling out because of the stress caused by Lulat. I do all of my work and study for weeks in advanced of the tests yet i received a 62/120 on the midterm exam.
stressful class, in the sense of the work load and the way Lulat teaches. He can be very intimidating and expects a lot out of his students. His class is pretty hard but I learned so much about the world, and he opened my eyes to important things I never even thought about. Do your homework and you will do fine.
Gives you many breaks. Gets upset when you don't do your work due to importance of topics (democracy, human rights, racism, etc.), or when the class unanimously votes to do extra-credit bonus quizzes and then some let the class down by not doing their part. His classes are what college is really about! Appears intimidating, but is very friendly.
I learned more in this one class than all other Gen Ed classes. Easy A class if you follow simple rules. Do not skip class, allows make-up of legitimate absences. Always take notes, tests are open notebook. Homework is light but do it well. Get to know his website. Take advantage of EXTRA CREDIT work. He is a caring person, so go talk to him.
This class isnt a class where you study for days & fail. The time you put in will 100% reflect your grade. You cant get an A if you didnt take notes (exams open-book) & skip class. You have to do no work & try to fail because theres many breaks to improve your grade and instructions are so clear. You will learn a lot on topics never discussed
Dr. Lulat is really passionate about the subject. As we watched the assigned movies we discussed how things such as racism and oppression affect society. The professor is professional in class, but also helps students and is friendly outside of class. I would take any future classes offered by Dr. Lulat.
A nice guy, but he shouldn't be allowed to teach Gen Ed because he makes you work for your grade. He gives you homework. He takes attendance. He is very strict. Does not allow you to leave class to answer a text message. He gives tests and quizzes. He even gives a final exam! Which teacher in this school has a final exam in a Gen Ed class.
This would have been a great class but a couple of low-self-esteem kids thought they knew more than the teacher, kept up on interrupting and disrupting the class. Dont you hate that? The teacher was not impressed; gave us more readings. If you do your work you will like his course. A really nice guy outside class, intelligent, funny, and caring.
This was one of the best courses I've had. It was super interesting and helped provide a framework for understanding how the world works. The professor can be challenging but he truly cares whether you learn the material or not. The workload is decent but there is a lot of extra credit. If you keep with the assignments you'll get an A or B no doubt
During the semester I hated the class. Now that I am not stressed by the workload I realized how much I learned. Lulat is SO knowledgeable and I learned more important things than I will in any other class(most likely). I will not take another class with him bc he still scares me but if he changes the way he conducts class... sign me up
The class was extremely stressful, and the in class quizzes forced you to find all the little details to do well. That being said, it was a good experience to teach myself how to work outside of the class, and I think that now that I am out of it, it was worth the work it was.
Took 3 classes with him. Awsome teacher. Extremely knowledgeable. You learn a lot. Got A's in all classes. Simple trick: dont skip class; take notes; take advantage of extra-credit; do your homework well (does not give too much homework); talk to him after class. That's it!
Loved his dry sense of humor. Amazingly knowledgeable. Very impatient with lazy students, especially ones full of xcuses. I hope to take more courses with him in the future.
If you have adhd or ptsd or any neurodivergency please dont take a class with him. There is only one specific way he wants you to learn and it is not accessible. No trigger warnings on triggering content. He seems to be constantly angry and I have nearly cried in class several times. I dont know what to do anymore.
He is very condescending, unapproachable, rude and disrespectful for no reason. He is too specific and expects us to know the color of the sock of the background actor in directors cut of the movie he assigns and then he practically calls us stupid b/c we are "expected to know these things" Most of the class is him telling us how "dumb" we are.
Professor Lulat's class is a once in a lifetime experience and I recommend all students take the opportunity to learn from him. You may find his style of teaching a bit unusual at first, but he cares for his students so much. He is honest and probably the most knowledgeable person I've ever met. He will fill your mind with real-world information
I enjoyed taking Dr. Lulat's class. Be prepared to read alot and take serious notes. His exams are all based 100% off assigned readings and lecture. You'll be able to bring in written study guides for your exams however he's very specific so you're study guide should be too. Overall, the course was challenging but I learned SO MUCH from it.
So unfortunately I was apart of this class during online learning for COVID-19. I didn't realize that transitioning to online would mean double the homework for this class, definitely not considerate. He gives you a short amount of time to answer his test questions that are just absolutely ridiculous. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU WANT STRESS
During the COVID-19 pandemic he did not appeal to the personal struggles that his students were going through. He would have us read 10 readings but only quiz us on 2. Some of the readings consisted of him telling his students how ungrateful or stupid we were. He's rarely available after class. DO NOT TAKE THE COURSE.
I had the misfortune of having him as a professor through COVID-19 and throughout a worldwide pandemic, HE UPPED OUR WORKLOAD. He gave an obnoxious amount of homework and had the audacity to claim he was the easiest course we were taking. He doesn't test you on all material and believes him having to reply to a students email should be a crime.
DO NOT TAKE TAKE HIS CLASSES! The workload is unrealistic, he's rude and uses a "dry sense of humor" to cover up for it. During COVID-19 He'd assign us Exams and not give us enough time to complete it. He also has his own website for the class where you have to click 50 links just to get to one link. JUST DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS it's not worth it!!
He is a great professor! He tries to challenge his students to really think beyond just getting assignments done. The class isn't easy but its also not super hard as long as you stay on top of the homework and actually pay attention in class. In the moment you might not see it but what you learn in the class can influence how you look at the world.
In all my years of schooling, never have I experienced such an abrasive and overall awful professor. He is as arrogant as they come, self righteous, horribly condescending, and absolutely clueless. He assigns at least double the amount of work as an average class, and claims it to be your easiest. I could go on for hours. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!
Lulat is easily the worst professor I have ever had the misfortune of encountering. He has his own website, no UBLearns. He's condescending, unhelpful, rude, and disrespectful while addressing students. Amount of homework is unbelievable. Not to mention that half of the films and videos watched didn't include African Americans in the films at all.
Worst teacher I have ever had. Every email he mentions he has so many students and he has so much going on with his life like it's not his damn job. He doesn't even teach or have to grade anything, he just has movies for us to watch and gives a MC test on them. He doesn't respond to emails unless you have a certain email format. The list goes on...
Lulat wasn't as bad as I expected. The first exam I took was difficult because I wasn't used to his style of tests. However, if you prepare as he says for the exams you won't struggle. He is also lenient when it comes to the exams, he weights your original score higher and the term paper was optional. Overall, it is time-consuming but the easiest.
I can see why many people don't like this professor. But from syllabus week it was clear the type of person he was so I dont see why everyone is surprised. Yes he is kind of rude, and very arrogant but when it comes to grading, he didn't have to curve every test and make the biggest assignment of the semester optional. So honestly not that bad.
Liked the course content, the teaching less so- I thought we'd be doing film analysis, but most test questions were about minor details. Every test had bits that were written terribly or just flat-out wrong, he does curve for that but I'd rather he just proofread. Patronizing as hell. Said not to take his class if we had a job, I had 3 lol...
If you are taking any other classes or have any sort of life, do not take this man. He assigns an extreme amount of videos (approx. 8 hours a week) only telling you on the mon of the week they are assigned for(not enough time)& his tests ask about very minor details. If you can remember 8 hours of video EXACTLY, then sure. Also need 97 to get an A
I could give you 100 reasons not to take this man. He is rude, arrogant, cocky, and gives too much homework then claims to be your easiest class and leaves snarky comments about how you are taking bad notes or doing the homework poorly. He posts everyones tests grades for everyone to see, and tries to shame students at any chance he gets.
If you want 12 hours of lecture to watch in finals week, take him. It is so much fun..... He will without a doubt overwhelm you with work and gaslight you into thinking you're the issue. I didn't even realize a lot of students were feeling this way until I started to read other rate my professor reviews, but he's been like this from the start!!
Tested on minor details, for example, one of the questions asked what animal was seen in the 3 hour long video. There is a test every other week. We did get opportunities for extra credit, but they were tests. 8-12 hours of videos a week.
Dr. Lulat is one of the best professors i have ever had. his teaching style is different but he will present all the work to you in the start of the class and stick to it. He will challenge your thought process and help you to see the world from different angles. i highly recommend taking his class if you want to learn, and get an A as well!
The amount of negative reviews on here is appalling. Lulat's classes were hands down the most formative classes of my undergrad. I took the first class on the last day of add/drop, and tbh- regretted my decision the first couple weeks. But as lectures and Lulat's personality unfolded, I got profoundly interested and ended up taking 3 more classes.
Dont let the crybabies fool you. If you do all your film/readings assignments, this is an easy A class. No final exam, no required textbooks, open-book multiple choice tests, gives bonus points and extra-credit tests. But you will probably learn more in this one course than several Gen Ed classes combined. A serious but fair professor.
Passive aggressive, cocky, rude and unresponsive. Assigns tons of readings/movies, sometimes 2 movies/week that are 3 hrs long each (some of which have no focus on African Americans) & he'll not even test you on one of them (he loves to waste your time). Asks irrelevant questions like "what wasn't in the film"... this class is unnecessary stress.
Hes extremely sarcastic, discouraging and his tests are absolute nonsense. Most questions had nothing to do with the point of the movies and majority of the class are doing poorly and his way of helping is giving a little extra credit. This class also taught me a lot even though i am sure Im not going to do well due to the awful tests.
I got the syllabus of the first month and it was okay but once the add/drop period was over I got the rest of the syllabus and it was terrible we had up to 3 - 4 3hr long videos to watch to prepare for tests. The test would be about minor details that had nothing to do with the stories and he made it seem like its your fault.
Don't value mental health? This is the perfect class for you. Test every 2 weeks, each test consists of several hours of film and MANY articles. Good luck getting the work done and even greater luck getting any questions right on the test. Definitely won't help your raise your GPA an A is a 97. I'll avoid this professor religiously from now on.
I learned a lot in this class, the effort the professor took in collecting interesting and educational resources that fit together cohesively is impressive. The professor recommends watching the assigned films twice, but if you take good notes you're fine. But very passive aggressive, seems to assume all students are slackers and hate this class.
The exam are made not to test your knowledge of watching the movie but your knowledge of picking up the smallest details in the movies and articles he provides. He gives multiple 3+ hours movies to watch and test you on the smallest details that are presented in the movie. He is very ego driven and have a point to prove.
Not a good prrofessor
This person made us sit through hours of uncensored war crimes and documentaries on atrocities and expected us to watch it with your eyes peeled and take notes. I'm scarred. Take my advice and stay away from this. A pathways course shouldn't take a toll on your mental health.
if you want to preserve ur sanity stay away from this class
Overall, I enjoyed some of the class. There are about 10+ hours of visual/textual homework, weekly. In his syllabus, he says his class will be the most important class you take. Tests every two weeks on hours of homework, tests may be 40 questions. A syllabus agreement is given for 10% EC. I would not recommend this class unless you need it.
Beyond shocked at the organization of this class. Syllabus rambles and comes off as condescending in many areas; one part tells students they should drop other courses if they're taking over 15 credits. The test/HW schedule was incomplete, & locating the materials for this course was like a downward spiral into a scam website. Very disappointing.
If you want to have no social life then take this class. He likes to ask the most specific questions on the tests and loves to make absolutely zero sense on any of the questions. He's extremely degrading and shows zero respect for those who take his class. If this is your pathway, please find a new one before you get stuck.
the most condescending professor I've ever encountered at UB. Weekly movies/documentaries can range from 2 hours to 7 hours. Talks down to students and acts like everyone owes him a "thank you" for doing the bare minimum. Says it's the easiest and most important class we'll ever take but half of the material has nothing to do with "blacks in film."
It have very particularly subjective and short-sighted view on the videos, especially on international matters(Just following the mainstream media and ignoring the real experience). There is also a lot of course content, and I haven't seen the professor throughout the semester.
very subjective course, and in the mean time what you learn from here won't do you any favors
He gives so much homework. A full length movie that you better memorize every scene because the quesitons on the test are so confusing. On top of that expect a few articles that you better understand because of the questions on his tests. Also talks to his students like they are dumb.
Out of all the classes I've taken so far this one was the worst. Had a stuck up attitude and the amount of work that was given out was insane. The tests were even worse, it was about the most trivial things background as well as long and boring. For the sake of your mental wellbeing do not take this class.
Took this class as a pathway. We're expected to watch 8+ hours of film (if he chooses not to include 4 readings for that week) and remember obscure details. Not a single homework assignment - test every two weeks and questions are formatted that multiple answers can be right but you'll be wrong if you choose the wrong "right" answer.
Hardworking teacher, so ALL homework available online. Amount reasonable, IF you did not allow it to pile up. Covered really important topics. Tests were multiple choice, open book, online, and not proctored. IF you did all homework, questions were easy--plus bonus points! Can repeat test if unhappy with score. Which teacher allows you to do that?
The only thing I really thing like about the course, is that the professor assigned a lot of content for the exams but we did not have too much time to do it.
Prof was rude at times and not understanding of situations, hard to understand what he says in lectures.
Avoid this class if possible - the workload is insane, with long films, obscure readings, and confusing tests. The professor has a stuck-up attitude and makes students feel inadequate. Unstuckstudy AI could help, but it's best to steer clear of this course.
This professor writes his own reviews, is super bias and traumatizing to freshman students. Talking from personal experience, can't believe he's still at the University.#SpeakUp #IYKYK
things he talks about during class will not be on tests, biased to students, worst teacher
Prof Lulat is an interesting man I had him for AAS 199, the material he teaches is super interesting however there is too much material to understand. You can get good grades if you at least skim the homework or play it on the background while doing other homework for other classes. Be an average student in the class and you will pass
Very workload heavy. Took AAS 253 for pathways, but the class was so difficult and took so much time. The test is confusing and asks such niche questions about the movies and readings. The grade is all test based.
He makes you watch several hours worth of videos and then tests you on them. I would not recommend taking a class with this professor. There were several times where he humiliated me, even included me in a test where I claimed not to understand the note shown on the screen. Made the environment of the class feel unwelcoming.
Very rude towards students and assigns way too much homework for a seminar. If you are taking this, lock in.
