dont bother going to class, tests are ridiculously hard and do not come from lecture notes or book. i think he pulls these questions out of his ass. dont think its easy becuase you get notes, screw the notes they dont help no matter what.
funny you say that, i come to every class, take detailed notes, read the book, and have a 94 average in his class. Sure, many of his questions are ambiguous, but he does a good job of conveying what he's teaching in class.
Mind-numbingly boring lectures unless you have a raging passion for Sociology. His questions on the test are ambiguous and you have no idea on what went wrong because you can't see the test unless you go to his office.
He was hard to understand in class and the tests were a little tricky. We were able to use cheat sheets (8 1/2" by 11" paper, front and back) on the tests, though. that helped a lot.
You have to take alot of notes and study alot to pass the test. Although he is very hard to understand because he is from japan.
Easy if you go to class, he gives bonus points for attendance, allows a one page cheat sheet and tests normally do not cover lots of information. As long as you have a good cheat sheat with all of your notes and definitions the test are easy.
he does not speak clearly and half the time he is keeps going on and on about his family...you can type the whole book on your cheat sheet for the test and it still will not help you!
I tried so hard and I could never do well - and I'm a really good student! My only C in grad school.

Hard test....First C in any class...i couldn't make higher than a C on any test. Goto class, becuase I didn't and I read every chapter that we had to, but it didn't help, so GOTO CLASS!!
It really depends on your interest on the subject! His class is better than many of other classes I had. Interesting topics, humorous jokes, and one of the best prof. in LSU. I really enjoy his class
Kamo's class is ok. His lectures are boring but you should go to class just in case he give the attendance quiz that's worth on extra percentage point to your final grade. Tests were ok, I pulled B's from just outlining the chapter on my own. It's an easy class to take for as a gen ed humanities course.
Basically you have to go to class to get a decent grade in the class. Majority of his test questions come from his lecture examples that relate to his notes. If you go to class and take good notes you'll be fine.
i thought Kamo made this class interesting because he is a funny guy. he does not take attendance, but make sure you go to class because he talks about stuff that is not always in the textbook. his tests are sometimes tricky. he lets you use a cheat sheet for each test, which is a plus!
Interesting lectures, although I do believe he's very opinionated. Go to class and pay attention. The book and lecture are really close, but the lecture makes more sense. I learned a lot of good information.
he's not as hard as people are saying on here. as long as you attend lectures (he gives out a few bonus opportunities just for attending his class), read the text (you don't have to go incredibly into depth, but at least skim it), and if you make a decent cheat sheet. if you do that, it will be easy to make A's on the tests.
Professor Kamo is not a bad professor at all. He is a funny and very intelligent guy. I made a horrible grade, (74) on my first test. But then I realized that you should read the chapters throughly AND make a good cheat sheet. If you create like an outline of the book with all the definitions then you will get an A+. I ended up with an A+ from a D.
I really enjoyed Kamo's class. All you have to do is come to every class and study those notes. I made an A on every test except one and that was because the week before I didn't go to class.
NOT THAT HARD, GO TO CLASS TAKE NOTES PRINT OUT THE NOTES FOR THE TEST ON CHEAT SHEET
SO EASY! just go to class and take good lecture notes. you get a cheat sheet for each test and his questions arent hard. also attendance is not mandetory but when alot of people look missing he will give bonus quiz.
He is sorta hard to understand if you sit in the back, so sit in the front. You get to use a cheat sheet on the exams. If you don't do well on the exams you can go to his office to "challenge" his answers aka argue your way to a better grade. Go to class, take good notes, and don't be afraid to go to his office. Easy but not a cake walk. Good luck
His accent makes it hard to understand him, so sit in the first 3 rows. He wrote the textbook that you use so a lot of his lectures are straight from the book. However, he usually tells stories in his lectures that are on the tests. You also get to use a cheat sheet which is AMAZING! And challenge your grade & answers on the test, you usually win.
Doesn't know how to speak english well at all. All of his tests are fairly irrelevant. Some test questions have to do with relating to his personal life and he can be rude. Lots of test questions have two parts and he tries to confuse you, and counts it as 1 question. Is also no longer letting people use cheat sheets, good luck if you have him.
He is easy if you go to class! Class isn't mandatory but if you don't go you will actually fail the exam. He is a good teacher & makes jokes to make you learn. I would definitely suggest taking him! Just DON'T USE YOUR CELL PHONE or DON'T LEAVE EARLY he will call you out on it, it's pretty embarrassing.... & you get a cheat sheet!
I got a 66 on the first test in this class. I aced the next two tests and was able to pull it up to an A. It's not an easy class, but he keeps it funny and interesting. It's a good class to take because it can relate to a lot of topics in your other classes. You have to go to class, take notes and read the book.
I loved Kamo! Probably my favorite teacher so far. His tests are very short and somewhat difficult, but as long as you make your cheat sheet using your notes AND the book, you'll be fine. Going to class helps though because he'll also test you on examples he only gives in class. And he's hilarious...I'd recommend him
Kamo is a good teacher! I would recommend him, but do not expect this to be an easy class! His tests are difficult and require a lot of thinking, but if you really study the book, GO TO CLASS, take good notes, and make a good cheat sheet, you will do fine! I enjoyed his class because he makes the information interesting and he keeps the mood light!
He is a really good teacher and he is hilarious! His tests would be very difficult if you didn't go class, TAKE NOTES, and read the chapters! He makes it very interesting.
You absolutely HAVE to attend every class, take good notes (easy) and make a thorough cheat sheet. I didn't care about sociology before but enjoy it now. He is also very computer savvy with eyes like a hawk, so don't break the rules. Hi Kamo!
Dr. Kamo isn't a bad professor at all. His class can be challenging. TIPS: go to class, take detailed notes, write down all his examples in the lectures, and make a good cheat sheet (& don't cheat on the cheat sheet!). You DON'T have to read his text book. Just skim through it to compare to notes when you make your cheat sheet & you'll be fine.
Don't bother getting the textbook, just make sure that you go to EVERY class, take notes, write a thorough cheat sheet and it's an easy A. Also the in-class pop quizzes are extremely beneficial to your grade. Moral of the story: Go to class.
I rarely went to class. I made a really detailed cheat sheet from the textbook & got an A but going to class would have helped because his tests reference the examples he gives in class. He can be unclear sometimes but it's an easy class. Also, he doesn't let you leave. He will seriously call you out and make you sit down if you try to leave early.
Dr. Kamo is a good professor, however, his style is a bit different from other courses I have taken. He does not use a powerpoint, he simply shows a lecture outline on the projector and talks for 80 minutes. His tests are challenging but doable with the help of a cheatsheet. Also, he gives pop quizzes that count for a semester point four times.
Hard to understand, and is rarely willing to help. Tests are extremely hard and not from lectures. Memorize the statistics he gives.
By far my favorite class I have taken at this university. Sociology is already an easy topic so his test are super easy. You get to make your own cheat sheet which is mostly definitions. No hard concepts to understand. If you don't pass this class with an A you are stupid and don't belong in this class. It's basically a high school level class.
ONLY TAKE IF NO OTHER AVAILABLE OPTION. Lectures every single class. No examples or variations. Strict class rules (no leaving early or he yells at you in front of the class and makes you sit back down). You can use a cheat sheet for the test. HAVE to read the textbook to pass the tests. Very hard to understand because of his accent, but a nice man
Very confusing and skips around a lot during lecture. Cheat sheets are probably the only reason I passed the class. You have to read the textbook to do well on tests and you must go to class. Otherwise he's very helpful during office hours.
He's not an easy teacher, he wrote the textbook that's used in the class. If you go to him during office hours he can help clarify things. he does have an accent but for the most part he's understandable. Note-based lecture so i suggest laptop/ipad. He will embarass you if you're talking/texting or being disruptive.
I would suggest taking his class. At first it was hard to understand him but i got over it. He allows you to use a cheat sheet on the test. His quizzes are points toward your overall grade in the class. The 4 test we had in the class makes up the grade, if you need other assignments to help raise your grade, then don't take his class
GO TO CLASS. He may be a little hard to understand at times, but a lot of the test material is from his lectures. Plus, tells pretty hilarious stories, but will call out anyone trying to leave and make them sit down. He'll make you work for the grade, but he is a good guy and will help if you ask for help. Glad I took his class.
Please don't suffer this class. He is incomprehensible. I tried to pay attention for the first couple classes and it just didn't happen. I can't follow; he just makes it so painfully uninteresting.
You should definitely take him, whether you're interested in sociology or just taking it for the credit. This is the easiest class I've taken at LSU. He gives so many easy opportunities for bonus semester points, and he lets you bring a cheat sheet to the exams. I feel like having no pressure on the tests made it a lot easier to learn.
By far my favorite teacher yet. Not only is he hilarious, but also makes learning sociology extremely entertaining. He gives 4 random bonus quizzes throughout the year, go to class. He allows you to have a front and back "cheat sheet" for each test, but all of his test questions are mostly examples of things he went over in class. Great guy!
Only a few tests that are short and easy! He was a bit hard to understand the first couple weeks but you adjust. I recommend sitting in front. I found his stories to help me better understand the theories etc.- heads up, they're on tests! I also liked how he puts outlines for what to expect for that class period that help you structure your notes.
Kamo has a accent but it's no ridiculously difficult to understand. Tests are specific but he allows a cheat sheet. For a A you must go to class. I took good lecture notes, put all of them on my cheat sheet, and made a A on every exam. 4 pop quizzes, usually when there are not a lot of ppl in class. Book isn't necessary but helps with cheat sheet.
If you go to class and take notes, you should get an A. He is funny and tells interesting stories. He lets you bring cheat sheets to every test.
Go to class!!!! He puts things on tests that were only mentioned in class. Tests are harder than you think, but his lectures come straight from the book so read the book and you should do well. He also shows you these rate my professor comments the first day so hey professor Kamo!!!!
Loved this class. He uses a specific outline for every lecture and explains everything thoroughly. He allows a cheat sheet on every exam, but you have to attend class to take the notes for your sheets. He's very organized and the farthest thing from confusing. I learned a ton in this course!
The class wasn't hard and Kamo was an awesome teacher. Just don't try to leave class before he let's you out or prepared to get punked.
You can use a cheat sheet for the tests. Go to class so you can get extra credit! There's ample opportunities. Also, don't you dare try to leave class early. He's pretty funny, but it gets serious when you're called out for leaving class.
Kamo is very and makes class interesting. You are able to use a cheat sheet on every test, so take good notes. If you miss class, you've missed at least 3-5 questions on the test. Don't try to leave early or use your cell phone.
Not a bad class to take, Mr. Kamo is a good teacher though sometimes his lecture can be confusing. My advice: just because he allows a cheat sheet doesnt mean you dont have to study for this class. If you dont study at all and just make the cheat sheet at the last minute, you will never get higher than a C in this class.
There is only 4 test and 4 quizzes (1 point extra credit). You can use a cheat sheet on the test but they are still very very challenging. If you are not good at applying information I suggest not taking this course. He does make his lectures interesting though with videos and statistics. Good Luck.
He is an interesting teacher and funny. I did not go to class which messed me up for notes. His test you can bring a cheat sheet. So either become great friends with a good note taker and skip class, or go to class and take notes. He does not have many test and grades so what you get is what you get. There are chances for 1 extra pop quiz in class.
Definitely made you work for your grade. Cheat sheets are allowed but may or may not help depending on the information you put on them. His lectures can be hard to follow and a little boring. You need to take good notes in class in order to score above a C on any test
He's a great instructor, and I know he's reading this because he always reads them at the beginning of the semester so, "hey Dr. Kamo". Ask about Karl Marx the dog not the person, and be on the lookout for his sons restaurant. He's clear and easy to understand. You can use a cheat sheet but make sure you type every word that comes out of his mouth.
Attendance isn't required but is definitely a must to get good lecture notes. Lets you use a cheat sheet and only has 4 or 5 test. No homework but gives extra credit the week of a test. Recommend sitting in the front of the class bc he doesn't use a microphone and might be hard to hear in the back. No powerpoint only lecture outline.
I'm a psychology major and I couldn't get anything above a B on his tests no matter how long I studied. The material isn't difficult to comprehend it is his accent that makes his notes/lectures hard to understand. He lets us have a cheat sheet and most people I know still failed his tests...
Fantastic professor. Although it may be difficult to understand what he has said (AT TIMES) due to his accent, he is helpful in his office hours. He cares about you as a college student. He loves what he does and will always be there for you. There are chances to earn extra credit. ALLOWS you to make a cheat sheet to take in to EVERY test.
Tests are nearly impossible. You can't understand a word he says and even though he offers cheat sheets, it doesn't help. If you have another option, don't take him.
first of all, hey class! (he reads RMP on the first day and its hilarious) Kamo is awesome. Although he wouldn't curve my grade at the end of the semester and I'm still pretty bitter about it, he's a good teacher. Tests can be tricky, so make sure you STUDY, even with a cheat sheet, its easy to do poorly. Go to class bc he gives bonus randomly.
He's just a funny, cool guy. He made class enjoyable and the information interesting to learn. The tests can be hard, but not impossible. Most people get A's and B's in the class. oh, whatever you do, do not try to leave early. you've been warned.
You have to go to class in order to get the material for the exams, but he lets you use one cheat sheet for every exam! The people who didn't go to class obviously didn't do well, so just go to lecture and actually take notes.
Really funny, makes class interesting with examples and videos. Strict about cell phones/leaving early. Allows cheat sheet for every test, but you have to attend lectures for notes. One time I forgot about a test (it was first semester freshman year, don't judge) but I made a cheat sheet the morning of the test and still managed to make a C on it.
Has a heavy accent but once you get used to it, he is great! The text book is useful for vocabulary, but as long as you got to class and take really detailed notes the test will be easy. He lets you use cheat sheets for the tests so type your notes. On the first day of class he'll usually show you some of these so hi!
Kamo is funny and keeps the lectures interesting! He lets you make a cheat sheet for the exam, so always type notes. If you go to class, take notes, and skim the textbook you shouldn't have a problem doing well in his class. He usually shows his ratings on the first day so hey!!
Dr Kamo is a real gem, loved his lectures and personality. YOU NEED TO GO TO CLASS TO PASS, can't stress that enough. learn to take good notes!! He wrote the textbook so read read read; reading the book makes a difference on tests. Japanese accent not too bad. PS: he usually shows these rates so Hi Class!
No homework, some in-class quizzes but all subjective. Go to class or at least get lecture notes from someone because you'll need that info for tests. He lets you have a full page, front and back cheat sheet for each test with anything on it, as small font as you want. Get the book because he tests you on things from it that isn't in lectures.
If you really want a challenge in life, here it is. Dr. Kamo is from Japan heavy accent but you get used to it. This is not basic sociology in any type of way, he is the director of sociology for the school. He was happy when the class average for exam #2 was a 79% (that's a C+ btw). TAKE ANY OTHER PROFESSOR. DROP BEFORE YOU GET A "W".
I rarely went to class and made As and Bs on all the exams. He lets you have a cheat sheet for each test which comes in handy. I mainly made my cheat sheets based on the book, but notes are helpful. VERY thick Japanese accent so make sure to sit towards the front. Lectures were interesting and Kamo is very willing to help outside of class!
Dr. Kamo is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is very comical and genuinely cares about your success in his class. If you take the time to ask him for help or visit him during his office hours he was always help you. His lectures are intrinsic if you're looking for an A. Attendance is highly recommended. Test 80% lecture/20% book.
You literally have to go to class. Go to class and write down everything he says because it's all on the test. You get cheat sheet for tests. You will pass with A or B if you just go to class, take good notes, and make good cheat sheet.
Let's you use cheat sheet (front & back) on every test, Which is good because they make up mainly your entire grade. 10 Random pop quizzes which are pretty easy. went to every class but didn't pay much attention. You can find good cheat sheets on Noteswap to inspire your own and Quizlet has good study materials. He's hard to understand so sit front
Just show up to class and listen and spend a good hour or so on the cheat sheet. I highly suggest notepad and pen as you actually have to think about the stuff you write. Also, for each topic on his lecture notes he tends to repeat something 30 times and whatever he repeats will be on the test. I never studied just the cheatsheet. (beware 3rd test
He is very hard to understand. He is also the author of the socl book he has you buy. This class does not use the normal Socl book. IT IS HIS BOOK .meaning HARD. Don't let the fact that he lets you use a cheat sheet every test fool you.. this is because his text are extremely difficult. Lots of studying req. HARD CLASS
Very funny and a great overall professor. He thoroughly explains information covered in lectures and gives examples/scenarios that are similar to ones on the tests. Dr. Kamo provides many opportunities for extra credit which are not difficult. He usually reads a few ratings on the first day so.... Hey :)
There were days where I honestly would forget I took this class until I got a notification on my phone saying I have class in 30 minutes. Love you Kamo. (Go to class on days where you know everyone will skip, that's usually quiz days)
Never, under any circumstances, spend any money on the textbook. You will not use it. Please please save your money and do not buy. The class itself is very easy as long as you go to class and take notes. There are also good notes on noteswap if you dont want to go to class. But there are a few in class extra credit pop quizzes, so I suggest going
Professor Kamo is amazing. I love his class. He explains everything extremely well and really knows what he is talking about. I suggest that you really go to lectures and make sure you pay attention to his examples. SIT IN THE FRONT!!! I promise it will help you. He likes to show these on the first day sooooo wassup
You can skip class but be careful because he will give in class assignments on the day you feel like skipping. "Cheat sheet" doesnt do much so study a little bit before and make your cheat sheet long and impossible to read because thats how i passed this course. Hard to understand unless you sit in the front i guess.
This is such a great class with an amazing professor. Ignore everyone complaining they are just A. Lazy, B. Don't go to class or C. Are upset that Dr. Kamo called them out for playing on their phone in class. Make a cheat sheet and go to class for all the bonus assignments and you will do fine!
Take this course. Like any class, you have to put in effort if you want to make an above average grade. Professor Kamo sets his students up to succeed but giving surprise extra credit quizzes if you show up to class. Along with the cheat sheet he allows you to make, theres no way you shouldnt make at least a B.
Kamo is my favorite prof. The class was SO easy because hes just a good teacher. I mean he lets you bring a typed 1 page front and back cheat sheet to every test! He has a lecture outline every day, just (hand) write down the headings and his examples/EVERYTHING he says underneath. A couple days before the test type up your notes 2pt font, easy A
I absolutely loved his class!! You need to sit in the front of the room always. You need the textbook because it is based on the lectures AND the textbook. he also lets you go to his office to review the exam and your cheat sheet after you take it. STUDY YOUR CHEAT SHEET!! he also reads these on the first day of class so if you're reading this hi!!
Amazing class -- it should not pose you any problems as long as you show up to lecture, pay attention, and take thorough notes. He allows cheat sheets for his exams and offers lots of extra credit. Pro tip: Sit in the front of class -- it helps a lot. Do all that easy A. He also shows you this on the first day of class -- what's up, new students?
Tests are very hard and cheat sheets rarely help. His guidelines in class are very hard to follow if you arent paying attention for the entire class. He offers lots of extra credit but they have odd time windows and you can easily fail them. I attended every class but two. Its hard to pay attention with his accent and he tends to ramble.
The best advice I can give is to go to his office hours and ask specific questions. He is a tough professor but not an unreasonable one. Put in the work. Go to class. He allows cheat sheets for tests, get creative and do not wait until the night before to make it. His tests are difficult so utilize the textbook when you study. But GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!
Okay after reading all these bad reviews I had to leave my own. Kamo is great he really tries to make the lectures interesting and in my opinion they are. You need to sit in the front to hear/ understand him. He gives outlines for the notes which are extremely important for the cheat sheets. As long as you care about the class you will do well!
Hard to understand, tell corny jokes during lectures. lectures are horrible, overall bad experience wouldnt recommended his class
Sit close to the front if you want to understand him. Lets you make a cheat sheet for every exam. Show up to class, he tells personal stories that relate to the lecture, those end up on exams. don't use your phone or attempt to leave early. seriously. dude really is funny at times. everyone else is lazy, literally try and you'll be fine.
Allows the use of cheat sheets on test but you must go to class in order to make the most of this opportunity! Reading the section before the lecture helps tremendously. He makes lectures interesting with stories and jokes
All you have to do is go to class, pay attention, take notes, and make a cheat sheet on your notes. DO NOT listen to the bad reviews; those people are just LAZY and obviously, do not know how to put in effort towards school. Also, Kamo, you better show your class this review because it's 100% the truth.
Professor Kamo is the best professor at LSU so far. His lectures are interesting and he does his best to keep everyone's attention. He also gives SO much extra credit, totaling 7 points on your SEMESTER average this semester, and you are allowed a cheat sheet on every exam, impossible to not get an A. Also, hey new class! Have fun and miss you Kamo
His class is fully exam based, but he does give extra credit, which really helps your grade. He allows one cheat sheet for the exam, so it is important to go to lecture to make sure you are getting the information. If you make a strong cheat sheet, his exams are relatively easy. GO TO CLASS AND GET THE BONUS from his in class quizzes!!!!
After reading these reviews. I was nervous for this class, but I would 100% recommend, especially if youre pre med. As long as you go to class and take notes, youre basically guaranteed an A. I fit all my lecture notes on my cheat sheet and used the book to review right before the exams and made an A on every exam.
11/10 recommend. As long as you go to class, take notes, and put in some effort, it's an easy class. Kamo is hilarious and always made lectures fun by tying in stories with the material. Lots of extra credit offered, and best of all, CHEAT SHEETS are allowed on every exam. Would take a million times over!! Hi to the class if Kamo reads this!
Great professor with a good sense of humor. Helps relate the material to current events and is very helpful when it comes to questions.
This class was a great elective to take. I didn't find it difficult in the slightest. Anyone who says it is hard either doesn't like the professor or didn't do the work, which is their own personal issue. This course is heavily lecture based, however Professor Kamo makes topics very relevant, interesting, and fun. He's a catch lol.
I enjoyed the class but the quizzes were timed with fifteen minutes for fifteen questions. This through me off a little because I normally take my time and carefully read questions but I found myself being rushed. I think I could have done better on quizzes if I had some more time.
Professor Kamo astounded me. This semester his course was taught online and he is the only professor I can say notably altered his teaching to fit the virtual style. The course is split between quizzes, where you are tested on lecture and textbook material then pack back assignments. He offered both extra credit and dropped our lowest assignments.
This course was fully online for me but as long as you watched the lectures you'll be fine. It was the same routine each week with a quiz at the end so it was easy to keep up with what was needed.
Took his class over the summer so everything was online. Loved that he posted everything on Moodle. However we were not given much time on the quizzes. 25 minutes for 20 questions, isn't very long to be 100% confident in yourself. Wish we were given longer time.
Easiest summer class I've ever taken. 5 weekly quizzes and he drops the lowest grade, and weekly packback posts. You have to buy the textbook, but if you take good notes you'll easily get a 100 on the quizzes. He uploads powerpoints with the important topics. Tons of extra credit opportunities. Easy A if you take good notes and try.
If you're looking for an easy class this is the one. I am a senior and this is the easiest class I've ever taken. The online class is very organized. All you have to do is watch the lectures, read the book, and take some notes on the PowerPoint. 15 mins for a 14 question quiz once a week and that's it. He also offers lots of extra credit options.
Do not take this class as an elective! He gives weekly quizzes that come from his lectures, his textbook, and the media he posts on Moodle. To do well on the quizzes, it takes so much time since there is so much info and so little time to take the quiz. Also, his quiz questions sometimes make no sense and have horrible grammar
Professor Kamo is a good professor. There will be plenty of moments where you will go "Wow, this guy is one of a kind" and you cannot help but respect him. However, if you want an A in the class you absolutely have to purchase and read the textbook. Utilizing everything except the textbook will not help you with the quizzes- you must utilize it all
This was the most organized online class I've ever taken. You can expect one weekly quiz and weekly packback posts. You'll have to purchase and read the textbook, and watch the lectures to ensure you pass this class, but if you take good notes you'll easily get a 100 on the quizzes. There are plenty of extra credit opportunities, too.
Dr. Kamo is awesome! I was very sick this semester and he very willingly made accommodations for me. His lectures are great but I think he's retiring which is sad. Great professor! Weekly quizzes but just watch and lectures and look at the media he gives you and you'll be good!
I really struggled. I tried asking questions but he seemed to look down upon me for asking and beat around the answer. He provided notes but they were unorganized. After dropping out of the class he announced my decision to the class. Rude. Just a horrible experience.
I loved Dr. Kamo. The class was super easy for me, but you do have to watch the lectures and take a few notes. You will not pass if you don't and just try to google answers to the quizzes. He does have a strong accent which can make things hard, but I didn't find it too bad. Once you get into a weekly routine, the class is an easy A.
