Cool guy. Very, very funny. Poked fun at the media people. Difficult material, yet well worth it.

This professor is so ridiculous. He doesnt know what he is talking about, doesnt know answers to questions and he cannot speak english.
he does speak fluent english, very funny, sure know the stuff, and very professional! exam is not so hard if u stick to his lecture and actaully study, then you will be fine! he also points out what will be on the exam, nice professor!
He sounds like Elmer Fudd when he talks. His class is ridiculously hard. Do not take this class unless you plan on spending an extra 3-4 hours per day reading the material and doing extra problems outside of class.
best prof. i have taken

Corporate finance was haaaaard! If you don't get it and start falling behind, you're effed. I didn't like his teaching style. I'm really bad w/ numbers and math and junk, so this was my worst class at UCR.
I love this guy, but it seems I am in the minority with that opinion. He is very funny and teahces using examples, which is a method I find especially helpful. Many other students do seem to find the class difficult. Perhaps because of my interest in Finance, I do not, but I would say give Prof. Chung a fair shot.
Professor Chung is by far the BESTT professor I've ever had at UCR. The material may be a little difficult but he goes slow and makes sure you understand the contents. I love his teaching style. Make sure to go to lectures (which is very good and entertaining) and his review sessions and you should be good. Go to his OHs if u dont understand!!
He is actually a very interesting professor and very funny. His test are kind hard though, he really does test you on whether or not you know the stuff. But he is by far the best professor I have ever had in UCR. Highly recommend you take 106 with him. Also, he actually askes the students their opinions, so he tries to help you out.

He made the class fun and understable even the finance is a hard field. The exams are based on the lecture and study guide. We don't really use the textbook. He is the one of the best professor in UCR.
the prof and the course were terrible. i liked finance, but i could honesly not learn anything from this course. by the way prof. chung should stop posting comments for himself on this page - not too many students i know would write positive comments for him.
he's hard, but you'll learn.
Everything he gives on his exams is in his lecture and review notes, but the class is still pretty difficult. If you go to every class and take notes, you should be able to pass the class.
Tough class, tough professor. As long as you go to class and the review sessions, you should be okay. Problems from book are similar to test. He gives out study guides too, but they are MUCH easier than the test. Book not required, but it helps. No homework. KILLER FINAL. He does curve his tests however.
Chung is a funny guy, cracks jokes in class! Class is super hard, need to constantly be on top of the material. Grade is only based on 2 midterms and finals all 30%. Tests are hard and need to study hard but Chung curves the test a lot so as long as your within the majority of the class you should be ok. Study his study guides and lectures!
Go to his lectures & review section, and you should be okay for exams. Like finance after taking his class. Textbook is not required. No homework. As long as you understand the material he is teaching, exam is easy.
He is a "teller," not a "teacher." He makes everything overly complicated. He doesn't inspire students. Has even called students "stupid." Lectures are very dry; no charisma. You can learn more from the book, and the TA's than Peter. He fails to sufficiantly establish goals for the class. Speach is poor. I rate him an F on the ability to teach.
This is a finance class, no matter what it isn't going to be easy but this professor is great, probably the best the school has. I like him a lot because he goes slow and lectures in a way that most students can understand. Plus he's funny. No homework, don't need text. Just go to lecture and his review sessions and you're good.
You better understand time value of money within the first 2 weeks of class. If not you'll just get more and more confused. Financial calculator is highly recommended, because fooling with time value tables will eat through test time.
This guy answers his cell phone in class. It would be one thing if it happened once, but it happens almost every day. Total disrespect for a graduate class.
Best professor I had at UCR. Took a different approach at this class. Group presentations every week. Basically a self-taught course.. No book. If you like real world finance and investment this will be a great class. And you won't have to worry about quizzes and tests.. Just learning.
My honest comments about peter chung: Has absolutely no interest in students. No charisma. Poor manner. No passion in teaching. Cold. Unhelpful and arrogant.
Awful instructor. Intensely focused on theory and over-complicating subject matter to feed his own ego. Zero interest in students, arrogant, and more interested in failing students. Class average for midterms was below 70%, showing he can't teach the material he expects students to know. Avoid at all costs.
He knows what he is talking about. All his tests are free response, so do not expect multiple choice. Depending on your class, the curve is either really good or really bad. He gives you everything you need to know for the test and drops major hints about questions. If you did not do well, its your fault not his. He does his part to help you pass.
Very arrogant and sarcastic. He thinks his funny but he's not! Exams are ok, have to study a lot. He is clear in his lectures, notes are always posted on ilearn. TA sessions are mandatory and also homework about once a week. Don't like his attitude at all but he explains the material pretty good.
Slides have blanks, so he requires you to come to class to get the notes. His exams are extremely difficult and nothing like his practice problems. He is sarcastic and rude. He does not care about students at all.
Class is tough. He is not very helpful and is very snarky towards students. Practice midterms don't really help because the problems are completely different on the test. Only good thing about the class was the huge curve because the class average on midterms was 60%
Make sure to learn NPV, PV, and FV early on in class. Understand these three key concepts and how they work. If you do, then it'll be less hard to understand the course later on. Be careful if you're taking this class with 104, 106, or any Jasso class. If you do, work HARD. I like Chung, he knows his stuff, which is why he's not easy.
I took this class twice because i never understood NPV, FV and fell behind early in the class. took this over the summer. one midterm and a final. Homework is easy. I got an A- and ill tell you how you can succeed. I READ every chapter after lecture and before discussion. Take notes during class of his PPT and ATTEND CLASS!
Definitely one of the best Finance professors at UCR. If you are a Business Finance major, then it is in your advantage to take Chung for 106. Chung knows his material and is a very knowledgeable man.
Smart guy.. Tells you what to study so going into his exams aren't too difficult, given the assumption you actually studied. The median is set at B-, so passing this class isn't too hard. Overall the class is good, but Chung himself can be a bit "insensitive," although, it doesn't take away from his overall knowledge.
Took two finance classes: BUS 106 and BUS 134 with Professor Chung. His midterms are fairly easy compared to final exam like most of the classes. He gives you study reviews before every exam and you are pretty much guaranteed B+ given that you studied all those. As long as you know his lectures, HW set A and study review, getting A is not difficult
Professor Chung is one of my favorite finance professor. He knows his stuff inside out and very clear in explaining concepts with real world example. I don't know why others are saying his 106 is difficult compared to others. His exams are not multiple choice, but it's not easy to get an A. The best thing is he curves the class by a lot.
Peter is knowledgeable. My problem with him is he is straight up rude. UCR should be more careful about hiring ill-mannered professors like Peter Chung and Long Gao.
I really like Finance and this class was a bit of a challenge. Gives hints on what's on the test and lectures are clear. I read the book for a better understanding. Goes through a lot of information during lecture, so make sure to go because powerpoints have many many blanks.
No sympathy for anyone who struggles in this class. Prof. Chung gives review guides and his exams are quite similar to his exams. Even if you're not a finance major, this class isn't difficult and he is a good prof. The material isn't challenging and really it is an important course. Make sure you attend class because the powerpoints are blank
Although Chung is a knowledgeable man and understands the material he teaches, he is an extremely rude and inconsiderate person. I witnessed a total lack of sensitivity as he heartlessly gave this student a very difficult time during office hours for no apparent reason, to the point where she was in tears and he was still giving her a blank stare.
Prof. Chung is very straight forward. If you go to all of his classes, you'll definitely get a good grade. Utilize the opportunity to go to his/his TA's office hours. He goes over test reviews in class and shows us how to do them.
Professor Chung is a great teacher! Sometimes, he copies and pastes HW questions directly from the textbook onto the exams, and he usually tells the class beforehand what kind of questions there'll be. Be prepared for free response questions along with multiple choice & T/F. Overall, if you study hard, you'll get an A.
He only reads over the slides during class. I can do that at home.
I thought the exams were pretty easy, you really have to be self motivated and do a lot of independent research to understand the material. Don't just rely on the book and the professor. The notations get a bit confusing because the book and Chung use different notation for WACC and a few others. You can skip classes and not worry too much.
Prof. Chung was alright. But sometimes you cant tell if he was joking or just being mean to students who asked questions. Do both sets of hws... Set A usually shows up on the tests. Materials arent easy but its doable if you work hard... do a lot of sample problems and it will be solid B... Work harder and understand the topics if you want A...
Worst professor I've ever met. He absolutely has no idea what he's talking about. Full of errors on his copy paste Powerpoint. He only gives formula and starts his nonsense. Midterm question is the same question from Question A from the book. His homework let students spent tons of time doing mission impossible Question B. I learnt nothing from him
He's a really good professor and he cares about his students. It's not an easy A class, he tells you what going to be on the tests, sometimes changes the numbers, sometimes the same question as homework problems. He has review sessions before every exam. Go to lecture and do the HW and you'll be fine.
The concepts are super hard but its not hard to pass the class bc he curves so hard. I did my best but got a C on the first midterm, D+ on the second, and B- on the final. I got a B- in the class after the curve. Tests aren't cumulative. I think the class is hard but the professor isn't a bad guy. Class is math heavy.
go take it if you have the habit of practicing. homework every week but similar to the exam.
He's one of the most fair professor I've met. He gives away so many questions from the exam; if you're failing it's your fault. Don't procrastinate. Do your work and stay on top of your work. It seemed like those struggling with he class was due to his slides, but take a notebook and jot it down. It's much more efficient when solving for hw anyway.
Homework due for every chapter and 2 midterms and a final. Exams are difficult, but If you go to his review sessions he basically tells you what to study for. Exams are also curved. He overall is a really good teacher and if you go to class you should understand the material. Beware exams are difficult!
The more I look back on his class, the more I understand how smart this professor was. I took him during the fall with lots of transfer students, and it was one of the best classes I've taken in UCR. He knows what he's talking about and teaches one more chapter than the board mandates because he knows we need to understand fundamentals of business.
I think I am a reliable source for the professor evaluation because I didn't miss a single point in the class. I tried my best to understand everything in lecture(some times I didn't). I looked up homework answers to save time and would look them over after to see how to do them. The TA Jamie was great and I spent about 3hrs studying for each exam.
Pretty solid prof for finance. As long as you pay attention in lecture and skim over the textbook chapters, you'll be good to go. Is a little abrasive at times, but mostly to those not paying attention and wasting class time asking pointless questions. His accent makes it a little hard to understand him, but you get used to it.
Professor is clear in explaining the content of this course well. The Exams accurately represent the homework and what is taught in class. I took it during the pandemic and even then the professor did a really great job relying the content of the course while assigning a reasonable workload. Prof unloads hw questions so no textbook needed.
He does a great job simplifying the formulas and content. Exam difficulty is reasonable and reflects heavily on the homework questions and lecture slides. He makes finance really easy to understand. keep practicing with the HW. Understanding the material covered in the first half of the quarter well will help you do well for the second half.
Prof Chung is an excellent professor and very knowledgeable. There are two midterms one final and a couple of hw assignments. The tests were very reasonable but need to make sure you practice and understand the concepts. Concepts are very important for this class as 51% of the test is concepts. Overall solid prof just make sure you practice.
The most shooty profs ever. Very rude! Homework is extremely hard and takes a huge amount of your time to do. Not helpful with the exam at all.
What a JOKE! UCR cant be serious with his level of laziness. You must watch a pre recorded lecture prior to class, then when you come to class you must do a quiz (very tough) and expects you to finish it in 10 mins. His exams are not similar to the quiz and are tougher. The class is fundamental to life yet he makes me question why I pay tuition
So if you decide to take the easy and lazy way by using the old recorded lecture as half of the class, at least make sure the quality of the video is right, video froze, sound crack, audio issue... Then the other half of the class is quiz and have students present their homework. Easily the laziest, worst, disrespectful professor I have ever taken
Attendance was taken during zoom lectures. Short weekly homework assignments, 2 midterms and a final. The average for the exams was a C. I definitely thought I had done better but it wasn't the case both times. Curves final grades at the end.
he stretches simple topics into detailed ones, may confuse at times with that. He is really critical with everything he does, so no point in convincing him to do anything. TA's will be what help you understand teacher.
I felt a bit intimidated going into this class. Although finance is a difficult subject, it's also not the most difficult class I took in the BUS division. So long as you beat the curve, you'll be in a good position. I learned more from my TA's lecture. He gives study guides before each exam and cheatsheet with formulas. Has a good sense of humor.
This guy would rather criticize you about needing help rather than giving it to you. He expects his students to know the material before studying it. He literally joked about how he gave a striving 4.0 student his first lower grade having him leave the university with a 3.96, why would you joke about that? He looks to challenge students to do worse
overall, knows a lot about finance but is tough on students. its an accelerated class so be prepared to do a lot of work on your own to feel caught up. i recommend reading the textbook on your own, because the one he uses is up to date and actually explains well and in modern ways. tests are hard but he just changes the numbers on the study guide
Honestly this professor is a waste of space at UCR. The whole class has been confused and teaching themselves off youtube and everywhere except the actual lectures. Good luck to you in this course. I left this class knowing nothing and confused.
The class was primarily math based but a large percentage of the exams were concept based, and he'd dissuade us from studying with the book (saying his lectures covered everything). This would lead to a lot of the class feeling underprepared for the exams.
I thought most people on here were not giving the professor a chance. He tests on the book but tells the class not to read the book....He also is not aware of what terms and concepts are actually in the textbook (required on the syllabus). He will try to accuse you of academic dishonesty for "too perfect" work on exams (learned from the book).
prof. chung is a knowledgeable finance professor with some experience. however the class is lecture heavy and midterm is worth 30 and final is worth 45% of your grade. even hw (15%) is graded on accurcy. you have to put in lots of efforts on your own to succeed and do well.
Prof. Chung is a very test heavy professor, 30% midterm and 45% final. Class participation is 10% and HW is 15% (graded on accuracy). However he lectures very well about finance which gave us a good understand about the concept in general. If you want to learn more about finance you should take him. However you must do well on tests he doesnt curve
Lectures were useless, studied on my own. But got all As on his test. He is not very tech savvy and accuses people of cheating when just using charts and states a lot of useless stuff that I feel is not very relevant. Easy if you put in your own time but just listening to lectures is not enough. GOOD LUCK to people who have to take his class!
one of the worst professors at UCR...usually would write good reviews but this guy trippin big time. Accused almost half the class they were cheating without concrete evidence... and hard to get in touch with, expects you to know the material without teaching it properly. I would advise anyone to either take it with someone else or skip the term.
By far, the worst class I have ever taken at UCR. Chung was arrogant, rude, disrespectful. He disregarded emails, late to lecture, unclear grading, no curve, he wanted the class average to be low. Clearly did not want to see students succeed. Superiority complex and overall just bad attitude. Unapproachable. don't take.
Do not take this guy at all, complains when you ask questions, will think your cheating when your not, and most importantly sucks at teaching. (2 midterms,1 final )(25% midterm 1, 25% midterm 2, 25% final, homework 17%, participation 8%)
Honestly not very chill, does not let you take attendance if you arrive 40 mins late. Lectures are boring and too much rambling instead of teaching the concepts in-depth. At least his exams are based on the practice problems and there is a curve.
if you wanna learn and take advantage of your time and money, don't take this professor. this was the worst online class I've taken. he's gonna try to accuse you and report you for cheating during the exams just because you did well. I literally had to teach myself to be able to at least pass the class and not waste time and money. so think wisely!
WORST professor ever. lectures=useless. doesn't answer questions. gets upset when students want him to slow down. You'll end up leaving more confused and teaching yourself. READ THE TEXTBOOK AND DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS. I used his study guide for the first midterm and failed so I ditched it for midterm 2 and final and passed. ask TA for help
This is my first rating on RMP, that's how bad this professor was, he barely taught anything during the lectures and would show us examples that were nothing like the homework or the exam questions., so you're going to have to teach yourself on YouTube or take notes. There are 3 exams and for the 2nd one he accused around 30 students of cheating.
Just took the first midterm came on here to say that his lectures and review DO NOT prepare you for the exam. His lectures make no sense the TA's are unhelpful too so I had to self-study 4 weeks of work by myself. Not sure if he curves it, praying he will bc everyone on the discord is freaking out.
Honestly, this Professor is not that bad. If you don't follow the lecture, you'll fail. He is straightforward, which is nice. He doesn't surprise you on exams. He'll either put questions from his lecture or the textbook. The person before me probably doesn't go to the lectures or do the homework.
i don't even know where to start but please don't take him unless you want your life harder. you'll be studying on your own with your own resources and barely pass.
He is not great at teaching, his lectures aren't very applicable to exams & he doesn't explain them well. Discussion attendance is graded. It will be self-taught HOWEVER it is totally doable! He provides a lot of very helpful resources, & the tests are almost completely based off the textbook. Curve is very generous. 3 tests, 5 HW assignments.
Never expected to have such a disrespectful teacher in my 3 years at college. Just reads off his slides and is extremely rude when students have a question. He will sus you out if you get "too good of a grade." Accused about 30 students of cheating when he doesn't know how online learning works. If you're that insecure, just switch to in-person.
The professor was approachable and seemed genuinely concerned when the avg for the midterm was around 60%. I think this class gets a bad reputation because there is considerable effort required to understand. I thought the professor lectured well, but its imperative to practice consistently and work on problems that arent just assigned.
The WORST professor I've ever had at any school. He was really disrespectful and rude to students who asked him questions. The lectures (and yes, I attended every single lecture and discussion) did not reflect what were on the exams. On top of that, the TA was absolutely useless constantly asking the class how we wanted discussion to be ran.
Solid professor, was blunt but was a fair grader and displayed everything out with reviews and what was going to be on exams, sometimes copy pasted from reviews and hw problems. He talks fast in lecture, but if you know how to time manage this class is not that bad. Way better than other business professors in my opinion.
Professor Chung is a good and fair professor. Go to every lecture! He tells you the questions he REALLY likes and what to practice for the exam. Book reading, unnecessary. Homework is only assigned after a topic is finished. He copy and pasted many questions directly from the midterm review to the exam. For MCQ's, study what your TA gives you!!!
The class was super hard but he curved the grade for everyone. Without the curve, I would have retaken the course. He is very caring and will help you to pass the class. First midterm was hard and lots of people failed it; second midterm and final was easier because of the study guide and told us what will be on the exam.
the worst professor ever. accused 20+ students of cheating and wanted us to "confess" to it or take it to SCAIP. took it to SCAIP and won the case but he still appealed the decision bc he is a horrible person. we ended up winning again anyways. extremely rude and disrespectful person. started fall '24 and finally won in june '25
Great professor, and the expectations for the course are all clearly outlined. His lectures are clear and informative and is willing to provide a lot of supplemental help and practice for exams. Exams are fair and doable. Most content is from lecture notes and study guides. Homework is also very helpful.
Amazing professor who values discipline and trust at the highest manner. It is expected that you follow his guidelines to do perfectly well in this class. His lectures are good, the syllabus gives a clear idea of the workload during the quarter. Also, the exams and HW are easy. Class is mostly an overlap of the contents discussed in BUS106/132/136.
Let's just say thank goodness for the very generous curve. Good luck Charlie
It's not an easy class by nature but manageable if you put in the time and effort. He is quite clear on what will be on the exams as he gives you hints during reviews. Very few hw problems throughout the course. You'll have to self-teach to prep for exams but all the material he gives you is enough to do well. Curved very generously.
Genuinely a good professor. This course will be on the difficult side if you don't put in the work or effort. I got by on actually reading the chapters, going through the self-test, the Q&Ps, and practice exams. He has three exams and some homework, which isn't much. He is very generous with the curves on his exams.
