Tough but passionate prof.
She is a very good prof gives just enough real life examples.
Very helpfull and understanding teacher. Interesting lectures too!
She is a wonderful person and does her best to help in any which way she can. The only problem is that she grades 40% midterm and 60% final... that's a little tough
High strung, entertaining and intelligent. Cool woman, good knowledge, eye-opening theories.
Very interesting class. If you go to to see her in her office, she will welcome you and try to assist in anyway. Hope you like Multiple Choice exams.
Very compassionate and awesome prof. Lectures were interesting and inspiring. Exams are not too difficult if you do the readings. 40% for the midterm and 60% for thr final so don't slack off !
She's pationate about the topic, but can be biased. Not the most helpful and clear prof, but good overall.
Knowledgeable and passionate, but can be boring and have an annoying voice. Does not give good guidelines to study for tests, just tons of pages to read. Boring book for the class, full of meaningless numbers.
She’s well prepared for her lectures. She just comes off as a lazy teacher, since all she offers is two exams one worth 40% and the other 60%. Also, her review isn’t very helpful. She basically tells you to read the book.
Lazy teacher. She shows up to lecture and is sometimes mildly interesting, but a 40% mid-term and 60% final, please.
Worst teacher I’ve had so far. Doesn’t give you good guidelines for the exams. Her reviews are a waste of time.
Really engages class in thinking about issues critically. Puts much effort into examples. Is fair if you try. More interesting than most.
amazingly lazy - 40% mid-term/60% final! Her lectures are boring and outdated and she doesnt bother updating her material. This class might of been interesting in 1985!
Brilliant woman, inspirational!!
Worst teacher I have ever had. Completely closed-minded and too radical in her philosophy. She imposes her beliefs on students and if you disagree, she tears you apart. Even ridiculizes you in front of the rest of the class at times.
This class was amazing. Her topics were always daring and without bouderies. She brought passionate topics and discussions to the class.
Had her several years ago for intro to sociology and i still remember her because I COULD NOT STAND HER!!! Be sure to agree with everything she thinks and says to get thru her class.
i had this teacher for gender and society..the discussions in class can be interesting but most of her exams are based on the readings..she's not very clear on what she's looking for in the exam questions..often only looks at her own point of view and can be very close-minded to other views...can be a hard marker..but she's a nice teacher.
she is a feminist and presents the class this way is willing to help you whenever but it seems that the class is the samw topic every week the quizzes are really hard but everything else is a breeze mostly gay guys and lesbians in the class
I enjoyed her class allot, but the multiple choice quizzes killed me. You really need to study! She is very nice, and helpful I recommend her class.
Enjoys teaching her subject. Class discussions are very animated. Tests are difficult but if you work hard you will do well. Teacher is very human and approacable.
Very outdated class. Feminism has come so far yet she still teaches as if this was the 1980s. Pathetic. Don't dare disagree with her, she'll rip you apart even if she is mostly outdated and wrong
If it were 1963, and you are a white female being forced into marriage, then this is the class for you! The material is out dated, the class conversations are shallow and rather pointless, and it only really covers white, heterosexual feminism. In this class: men, homosexuals and international issues don't exist. Same discussion day after day......
Class i took with her is called "Sociology of Emotions" She is amazing, she loves talking and we have great discussions. One, maybe, the best teacher ive had in Concordia so far (3 yr student here)
Not every academic is meant to teach...this is one of them. Stay away at all costs!
She's nice, but not a fair grader...
Great class - lectures sometimes have that 'shock & awe' element - makes it interesting. Exams are challenging, but if you read & go to class, you should be fine. Most of these ratings on here must be from lazy/inept students who feel the need to assign blame on others.
Had a problem with me using a laptop in University...she was really anal.
This woman is the pits! Kind of interesting class discussions and great articles. Really stimulating readings, but as a teacher she's terrible! Kind of vague and just plain lousy. Buy her coursepack but avoid her like the plague.
Social Construction of Sexuality - Very interesting class. Her lectures are easy to follow and enjoyable. Somewhat of a heavy workload but she is a fair marker and did not give a final exam.
you have to agree with everything she says and sometimes in class she is very vague although class in abstract
she's all over the place and is dead set in what she thinks, she wants your opinion but she usually thinks its wrong. the movies she shows are super graphic.
Really great prof, but is subject to her own strong biases. Very left wing feminist, so you must be able to enjoy this perspective in order to enjoy the class. The workload is not too much, 3 4-6pg essays/film reviews and a research paper or take home. The material discussed in class reinforces her opinion, but the films were very good.
Absolutely the worst teacher ive ever had. Extremely vague. Class has no clear direction, and her grading is very unfair. I don't sugest anyone too take her.
Interesting class. Demanding in terms of writing quality, but allows students to re-write papers to improve grade. Final take-home exam is challenging. If u feel grading is unfair or u don't know why your mark is so low, take the time to go and speak with her - she is very helpful & will give you insight into improving your work.
She is the worst teacher at ConU. She's very biased and feminist, which doesn't help because she doesn't see where the students are coming from. Never clear on what she wants. She even suggested her students to picket with the part-time profs. She cancelled last class due to that reason. NEVER TAKE HER CLASS!!!
One of the best professors i have had. You don't have to agree with someone's politics in order to appreciate their intelligence. For those complaining about her vagueness, this isn't elementary or high school, ts university and don't expect to be spoon-fed. Fair grader and approachable.
She is a smart woman, but opinionated. She refuses to argue with students on matters which she knows she is more intelligent, which is refreshing in a prof. Workload is mediocre but some of the readings are quite dense and hard to comprehend, but if you go to class she explains them well. Overall a great prof.
She's not very clear and obviously she has some favorite students which gets real annoying in class! Hard marker. Flexible with due dates.
Was a hard marker, can be very opinionated. Really nice to talk to when she has the time. Seen her publicly humiliate a student for doing a paper which didn't reflect her opinions of the topic. Personally would stay away.
I learned so much in her class! But I have to admit, I was on her good side. But that's not hard.. just go to class and participate, show your effort, and you'll be fine. She's a hard marker though.. 80 is a great grade for her. I would not take another class with her, just to avoid the pressure that comes with it. Nice woman though!
nice teacher most of the time... makes the class interesting. BUT she is the WORST marker I have every seen.. does not give anyone fair grades. Would really recommend NEVER taking her!!!
Professor Glick is an extremely interesting professor, I enjoyed her lectures, however I find her marking to be ridiculous, and will be avoiding her classes from now on, which is really too bad. Also, she often has a mandatory group project (worth ~30%), which is often more work than it's worth.
I'm not crazy about her. She can be rude and opinionated and she's not very helpful. She can be interesting at times but the way she organizes her class is odd. We all have to present and half the time, we can't understand anything. Her assignment guidelines are also unstructured. Also, she has favourites which is annoying.
I had a pretty good experience with this prof although I think she may be a bit bias towards female students (possibly a feminist).
this teacher can come off as really easy going and fun to listen to. however, she is one of the most hypocrytical teachers i have ever met. while i was doing an oral in front of the whole class, she disagreed with what i had to say and publicly humiliated me in front of the class stating that i was prejudice. she has favorites!
She is a very interesting and intelligent professor, she has a lot to offer her students, however her assignment requirements are vague and unclear, this can be very frustrating when you want to understand and do well. She is an unfair marker, biased towards students, picks her favorites, may insult and embarrass you if you do not agree with her vi
she's a witch! she said she would be i her office until one p.m. as she cancelled class for the religious holiday and at 12:45 she was not there! Who hired her???
She is terrible omg WORST WITCH OF A TEACHER! Very unprofessional and she said we could see her at her office until 1p.m. as she cacelled class for the religious holiday but at 12:45 she was not there. Who hired her?
She is by far the most judgmental and defensive human being I've ever met. I went to her office NOT to argue my grade but to simply discuss it, and I was accused of being defensive and that there was nothing she could do to help me if I was not going to listen. She's unfair and unopened to any other opinion but her own. And I'm not a lazy student.
Great prof. You can learn so much if you are ready to listen. Some students are unhappy with her because they are used to special treatment, not with her. If you are there to learn you will. If you are there to whine and complain without hard work you will have hard time. She is one of the best professors I have ever had.
as a woman I feel very insulted when i'm in her class even though I share many feministic views, she makes students uncomfortable and scared to ask her something or her temper starts kicking in. She gives Concordia a bad rep I have never had such a terrible experience with a "professor". She must have wrote the last comment, we were all terrified!
What a terrible, ego-centric professor. Better be ready to kiss a$$ to somehow get a decent grade. You will feel terribly inferior as she demands a "higher level of thought" but if your higher level is not the same as hers...FAIL for you! E-mail replies and requests for help get one-word replies. GET OUT NOW WHILE YOU STILL CAN!
If you are confident you want to learn and willing to work at it, take a class with Yael Glick. She is fantastic. If you're iffy on the point, or just want to get by, avoid her. She encourages students to think for themselves, but that does not obligate her to agree with them.
Everyone takes her classes expecting easy As but that's just not the case. I've heard so many complain about the grades they've gotten with Glick but these are people who don't work and half-ass everything. She has been one of the BEST professors I've had at Concordia.
I am not sure how serious you think I am, Run like hell, Don't ever take her class, I wish that I had check her before taking her classes. grading are not fair at all unless you can produce the book in you essay questions, I am telling seriously consider another class.
am not sure what to say but this professor is not fair sociology is the study of the whole society thus in this class we have to study her opinion in other words its all about feminism and how men are the cause of the destruction, she is not a fair grader run away don't take her class she needs to retire besides she is not getting any younger.
HORRIBLE AVOIDDDD AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!
she is NEVER availlible to help and everyone i know in her class... including me, got below a c on every paper. when she gives you assignments she does not explain. DOES NOT ALLOW LAPTOPS! DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
Great teacher if you are willing to listen. She is direct and to the point. Very tough if you are a spoiled student. Loved her. P.s. No, I did not get an A :).
i took her for intro to sociology and social constructions of sexualities. she's my fav prof in university. she's awesome... funny. explains well. gets your attention. allows for class discussions. politically correct. i got good grades in both classes. she knows what she's doing. exams and papers are fair and easy if you listen and read.
By far the worst teacher i have ever had. She is unapproachable and simply a mean person. She barely explains her assignments and will NOT help you with anything. She will never give A's, that's for sure. She is always right and if you even attempt to go against her you will certainly pay for it. She has her class pets. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!
Great professor. Class discussions are lively and helpful. One of my favorite profs so far.
at first she was very strict and unpleasant, giving everyone bad grades, but second semester came and she actually changed for the better, becoming more easy to tolerate and giving better grades, she is still impersonal in nature and relies on a terrible textbook, but she is okay.
I really don't understand why studens don't like her. I took her Self and Society class, she's an incredible teacher. The whole class was directed in class discussion. You learn so much more this way, rather than dry textbook reading. She's very easy-going and heavily weighs in student input, The class was engaging, informative and intriguing.
I worked hard I got a decent grade, but I will never take a class with this proffessor ever again. Although, some of her lectures were entertaining, Proff. Glick is the single, most unpleasant person, I have ever met, and her project and paper expectaions are vague. When you ask her how to improve your work, she has no time for you.
She was by far the best teacher I have ever had at least for SOCI 300. She is vague but for the reason that she wants you to think. She changed how I thought about things. Also gets everyone in on the discussions in class. You can ask her anything IF YOUR IN CLASS. YOU NEED TO WORK HARD for her marks though. So if your not ready to work...
great profesor ! great class!
Prof. Glick is brilliant! She's super down to earth, and keeps things very interesting. Her assignments are very unstructured, sometimes making it hard to know what her expectations are, but if you're good at critically analyzing you'll do great. I'd definitely take a class with her again!
Interesting material, lectures and discussions for students who wish to learn. Extremely knowledgeable on a wide range of subjects. Slacking in her class is not an option. Many students are disgruntled when they realize the work load.
Although I really liked Professor Glick as a person, and the classes were unstructured and interesting, I had no idea what the expectations were for assignments. The topics chosen were very subjective, and the grading was all over the place. There was no feedback given on how to improve, leaving me in the dark and defeating the purpose of learning
Professor Glick is my favourite professor at Concordia. She applies lofty concepts to real life situations and is challenging while being encouraging. She loves when she can see elements of your personality showing in class or in assignments so the more personal anecdotes, the better.
Great interesting classes!
This teacher is fabulous... she knows how to stimulate her students. Her main goal in her class is to help students think critically about everything we hear about, see.. truly amazing. Wants to hear from everyone in the classroom, she's open to suggestions (changed an exam to a research paper for those who wanted, changed exam).. one of the best!!
she is hilarious, cool, and great. she is not a hard marker, and you get to think and demonstrate your ideas and what you have learnt on tests. make sure you demonstrate the social structure's influence in your work and you will do great! get her vibe, by what she talks a bout in class, to see what she is looking for in your work.
Amazing person and very open teacher. Had her for soci of sex and she goes above and beyond to incorporate every aspect of sexualiy.. does not put to shame anything even if she does not agree with it.. when i said open before i literally mean there is nothing she will not discuess. Best teacher ive had, makes a point to know everyone in the class.
She was very hard to follow, very confusing, always jumping from one idea to another and constantly running from one end of the chalk board to the other. **If you need structure to learn, this is not the teacher for you!!
If you're looking for a prof to spoon feed you the textbook material then look elsewhere. But if you want a prof to teach you how to think critically, then look no further. very insightful and extremely open minded, not interested in convincing you and is open to criticism. multiple choice questions on textbook. texting in class is prohibited.
Yael is the bomb. Attractive too. She's super smart and sarcastic. She's fun
Great Prof. but don't take her class if you're not willing to put in the effort. gave 0's to those who tried BSing their midterm/final. A+7 A2 A-5 B+2 B5 B-2 C+1 C2 C-0 D+5 D1
Excellent prof! Do not come to this class expecting to be spoon fed the material you need to do well. I saw the classes more as complementary to the textbook. Read the material, learn, and come to class to help put things into real life context! If you're not willing to think or be open to considering reality, this is not the class for you!
you can write 10 pages for her paper .. and she will give you a ZERO! same for midterm and final ... not even 5% a ZERO! - ... do not take her .. i have no idea how her rating is so high.. she did this to 3 people in the class. she asks to see you and will be little u ... no help what so ever
She is an amazing teacher. Very straight forward. She provided us with an email containing a brief summary of everything we needed to know for each exam. Studying this ensured a high grade in the course. A funny and kind teacher who you should definitely take at concordia
A great class and a great teacher! Participation is important for her in this class as it is a 300 level. There were two exams and a paper, but the exams were open book and we were allowed to do the paper with partners. She is a fair grader and a very interesting teacher. I was never bored in any of her lectures.
She's an ok teacher. Had her for intro to Soci. No laptops allowed and posts nothing online so write everything she puts on the board. Also she doesn't cover every topic in the text book in class. Her exams are HARD based more on the book and barely what we do in class. I wouldn't really take her again to be honest.
Her class is like listening to her have a conversation with her self, but she can't even follow her own conversation. She jumps from one idea to the next without making connections between the two. The chalk board is really proof of that (its a big fat mess). There are no power-points to help you study or follow her class. Her exams are awful!!!
Brilliant professor, makes you think critically and fair marker. Available to students outside of class. If you want to be challenged and are prepared to work at her pace, this class is for you
Professor Glick is by far the best teacher I've had thus far at Concordia. She takes her time to teach the students various concepts that may not initially be familiar to them but they are definitely things that will be useful outside of the classroom and life in general. She really wants her students to succeed. If you participate you can't do bad
Professor Glick is the best professor I have had at Concordia so far. . Lectures were very engaging, and thus never boring- she encouraged questions, conversation, and debate. I didn't find the course as difficult as the other people commenting and I'm not an exceptionally hard worker. Just pay attention, go to class, and you will be fine.
I enjoyed the course content and her at times. She knows her stuff and engages you to think about the class content. Sometimes she could ramble on endlessly about the topic, this is what makes the lectures long. I did learn a lot of things from being in her class. I would most likely take her.
Great Teacher
Would take again 10/10. Great prof who is passionate about material she teaches, had others come in to present workshops on topics best covered by people close to the matter. Makes sure the class is a safe space. Encourages critical thinking and development of original thoughts. Go to class, she expects participation and it's the best for learning.
She is incredibly rude! I am surprised by the number of good reviews she has on this page. I have spoken to my other profs about her because of unreasonable grades she has given me and they have agreed her time is up as a prof. She is somewhat outdated, will literally cut students off if she doesn't agree with their opinions. Never again!
Lots of reading, but material is current and super interesting. Her lectures were always great and she encourages discussion and exchange of student's ideas in class, but she can be a little hard to follow sometimes. The workshops were a great addition in a class covering sensitive issues. All-in-all I would take her again, fair/easy grades.
Very lazy and tough grader, she gives absolutely no feedback! She is unclear with instructions, it is impossible to know what her expectations are? Her opinion is the only one that matters, which is ironic seeing as she assigns reflection papers asking for our "thoughts" and "opinions"? Her lectures are very disorganized and hard to follow.
You either hit or miss in this class with little in between. Poor assessment instructions, guidelines and grading scheme. You are often forced to answer and write papers based on what she thinks is right, not your own thoughts. Grade distribution was atrocious. I would rather never finish my diploma than take another class with her, and I got an A-
I thought SOCI230 would be an intro level course. It was much harder than expected, hence the C. There was so much assigned reading that I chose not to keep up with this class, so I wouldn't risk bad grades in my 4 other classes. Lectures were confusing, long and boring. Would not recommend her for 1st years or newcomers to Anthropology/Sociology.
She likes to have interesting & memorable discussions every class, & she would always lead the discussion in a way that would cover almost every topic in the assigned reading, but she can have a small tantrum if she notices not enough people read before class. She corrects your papers twice & gives you a chance to fix it up b4 the official grade.
Worst prof i have ever had she is unclear in her lectures they are not structured she asks you for reflections yet you cant even have an opinion. She doesnt give feedback on any papers and quizzs you do so you never know what is expected. One suggestion do not take her if you want good grades!!
Highly recommend taking class with Yael Glick if you're tired of memorizing paragraphs and vomiting them on paper and if you're dying to express your own ideas and back them up. Don't take a class with her if you don't have soul, if you're not constantly reflecting about yourself, questioning everything you've been taught, confronting set beliefs
Although I did pretty poorly on this class, I really enjoyed it. Professor Glick likes to have an active dialogue with her class... be sure to do the readings thoroughly and participate. She expects 300-level reflections and work ethic, and she grades accordingly
One of the most interesting and exciting courses I have taken! Glick is knowledgeable and passionate which leads to lively class discussion. The readings and assignments are not super time consuming or difficult, but the expectations are not always clear which can make the assignments difficult.
ANTH youth class: Yael is the most inspirational teacher I have ever had! She really brings class discussion to life and grades based on your engagement with the material (not learning it by heart). Students who question the material > recite it, which is why she only grades a couple reflection pieces with loose format. Life changing reflections.
She is amazing and so inspirational. You will have normally one exam fully on the book (you should read it carefully and understand it well), two small papers (2-3 pages) and a longer one (6 pages). She is so passionate about her class and life she will make you question everything and debate ideas in class! Be passionate in your papers!
At first I found her super intimidating, but she is approachable, knowledgeable and intelligent, and her lectures are very interesting. Nevertheless, your papers should be similar to her ideas (which are great!), so, if you want a good grade, then make sure you are on the same page as her. Got an A- in this class. Took SOCI349 and I received an A+.
What a class! One of the most enjoyable classes I've ever taken. Yael is fantastic, so knowledgable and passionate. Learnt a lot from her, which was largely facilitated from discussions in class, and assignments based on personal reflection. Not super clear in terms of expectations/grading but any of her courses would be worth it. Highly reccomend
She's so rude when asked for feedbacks concerning the papers we had to do. Only HER opinion count which I think is ridiculous coming from a sociology professor. I don't recommend her.
Amazing professor. Super interesting course about sexuality. For those people that are giving her bad ratings, you must either be crazy or super lazy and not willing to put in any work or join class discussion. One of the best profs and courses I've taken in sociology at Concordia so far.
Of all of the professors I have experienced at Concordia, Yael was by far my least favourite. As an introvert I found her class unbearable. On the first day of class, she asked us to all move our desks in a circle so we could all watch each others expressions. Super weird.
very nice, inspiring, fair grades, good assignments and lectures are engaging (which is rare) downside is she is opinionated and that can be heavy at times, unfortunately you have to play the game and let it slide if it bothers you or you disagree with her
